Dishonoring Filipinos

Nobody could have talked so fittingly about dishonoring the Filipino people’s struggle for independence during an Independence Day celebration than Gloria Arroyo. Her presiding over the celebration was in itself a dishonor to the Filipino nation.

In the celebration of the country’s 108 years of independence, Arroyo, at the Quirino grandstand and at the traditional vin d’honneur in Malacañang, talked ill of those who exercise their freedom to demand truth and good governance from leaders. “Many of those who shout in the streets have nothing for this nation except foment strife and stagnation.”

She dishonored Filipinos when she did not spare last Monday’s occasion to pitch the lie that charter change will bring the country prosperity when in fact, its main purpose is for her to consolidate power. “Our people will soon be called upon to make a decision that can bring an end to the political deadlocks that have stalled our efforts to take our nation to the next level,” she said.

Her executive secretary, Eduardo Ermita, expounded on her statement: “I suppose what the President is saying is that if one (Constituent Assembly) fails, the people’s initiative can very well push through, and the next step is, if and when, this is officially certified too by Comelec, there can be very well be a plebiscite.”

While Arroyo was pushing for charter change before the diplomatic community, Archbishop Angel N. Lagdameo, president of the Catholic Bishops of the Philippines was warning the people against it in a rally in Jaro, Iloilo.

“If charter change is to be pursued, it should be through a Constitutional Convention, whose delegates are elected by the people. We are not against charter change per se; but we are against charter change by the present congress converting itself into a Constituent Assembly. From history we learn that dictators are products of and supported by parliamentary forms of government,” he said. The same statement was read in an Inter-Faith rally at the Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila.

Lagdameo was actually adding to an earlier statement of the CBCP issued on Arroyo’s People’s Initiative. In their statement last April, the CBCP said: “We view with alarm the present signature campaign endorsed by the government. Signatures are apparently collected without adequate information, discussion and education. The manner in which these signatures are supposedly collected, including door to door campaigns, are not conducive to the kind of informed participation that such fundamental changes demand. The changes that are being proposed for signatures of citizens are dangerously unclear and open to manipulation by groups with self-serving interests. The complexities and variations of the parliamentary system are not adequately explained and have not been sufficiently discussed by our people.”

The CBCP let the public know that they are not fooled by Arroyo’s propaganda. “We believe that the reasons for constitutional change must be based on the common good rather than on self-serving interests or the interests of political dynasties,” they said.

Arroyo thinks that she may have made a good impression with her lifting of the death penalty but not Lagdameo. He said: “We have freed ourselves from the punishment of death penalty. But we still have to free ourselves from drug addiction and drug lords, from jueteng addiction and jueteng lords, from the temptation to extort and to bribe, from exploitation of women and children, from the killings of militants, labor leaders and journalists without the benefit of just trial, from torture and maltreatment of every kind, from graft and corruption and subtle dictatorship.”

Lagdameo’s best lines were:” But while we succeeded in breaking the yoke and chain of Spanish, Japanese and American colonizers, are we succeeding in breaking the yoke and chain of fellow Filipinos?

I’m wondering if he was thinking of the present Malacañang occupant when he was writing it.

Anna, you are absolutely right. Bansot does not understand HONOR nor capable of showing it in public. Her picture during the flag raising ceremony http://www.news.ops.gov.ph/photos-jun2006/photos-1061206.htm
do not show any respect for the flag. While military officers saluted, Bansot did not. Here’s a comment of Bobby Manasan:”there must be a new protocol where the first stringers don’t have to salute the flag (just sneer at the camera), but the second stringers (chiefs of non-existent air force squadrons and navy fleets) have to. it looks like our swine are eating well at the trough. thanks for a still pic from our never-ending theater of the absurd.”

Yeah, Gloria Arroyo has brought SSSSSOOOOOOOOO MMMMUCCCCHHH DISHONOR to us Filipinos! SHE IS THE WORST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO US!!!!!

  4. I strongly believe that the only way for Gloria to redeem her honor, assuming she ever had, is to hang herself by her toes from the highest lamppost for a few minutes or if she cannot do this, she should ask her husband to fast for 365 days.

Unfortunately, it takes some kind of high moral ground to make such extreme sacrifice and since this couple have no sense of honor, I doubt that even if we tell them that in exchange they are sure to go to heaven as beatufiul angels when their time is, they will not do it…

This oppressor of the Filipino people indeed has no right to speak of freedom, etc. Nakakahiya ang walanghiya! And why does she keeps on blaming those who oppose and criticize her as the cause of all the destabilizations menacing her government when such destabilizations are hers and hers alone to own.

What is disgusting is how the military and the police connive in staging these destabilization phantoms that on the other hand God must have been sparing even the NPAs to be blamed for such phantoms when on the day the Midget and her minions said there would be an attempt to overthrow her, no one among the ranks of the NPAs, etc. was around to take the blame.

But the kumag wanted somebody to take responsibility for her folly, and her stupid officials then found scapegoats in the 5 Erap supporters, but lo and behold, one of them was a policeman with a clean bill whose testimony they could not destroy, and so the bullies have to look for another scapegoats—the low ranking officers of the ISAF now being sacrificed in the same manner as those innocent soldiers made responsible for the death of Ninoy Aquino!

What a crap, and enough reason to disillusion a lot many about loving one’s country! On the other hand, it is amazing that despite such pathetic and grim reality, here, we are gnashing our teeth, and moved by such emotion to risk and peril our lives against this evil called “Gloria Macapagal Arroyo a.k.a Gloria Pidal alias Reina Engkangtada” so the Philippines and the Filipinos can be free.

Frankly, I am beginning to see a glimpse of what my grandfather must have felt when he joined his cousins in the fight against Spain for Philippine independence. I’ve also now understood his hatred for Aguinaldo who ordered the assassination of his cousin, Antonio Luna, and reason for my refusal in fact to attend any celebration of Philippine Independence on June 12, that the Midget’s father wrongly declared as Philippine Independence since the government of Aguinaldo did not have international recognition as a matter of fact, and the Philippines did not have independence until July 4, 1946 though it could also have been a farce.

For me, real Philippine independence came when nature in its fury drove the Americans out of the Philippines, and that what when the dormant mountain, Mt. Pinatubo, spewed lava and lahar to bury the US bases in the Philippines, especially in Pampanga, the home province of the Malacanang Squatter, who has taken the place of Marcos as the No. 1 villain in Philippine Political History!

Now this is not anti-Americanism. It is pure and simple an opinion on what real independence is all about, which is different from inter-dependence that I now Japan for example has with the USA or UK.

I remember in fact what my professor, Teodoro Agoncillo, used to drum our young minds with at the latter part of the term of the Bansot’s father, who actually should be blamed for the economic problems of the Philippines that Marcos in fact inherited. Agoncillo told us that ours and the future generations of Filipinos would never be able to pay the debts incurred by the Bansot’s father.

Now, I bet the reason why she asked De Venecia to come to Japan and ask for more utang from Japan is so she can have someone else to blame for it! Wise, eh?! Ang garapal!!!

  6. ystakei ystakei

    Anna:

Hang herself by her toes, you say? Nay, that will not do! She should jump from the rooftop of Malacanang head down para sabog agad ang utak. Pihado ko walang laman! Parang buko na puro tubig lang!

This reminds me of a Filipino who lost his mind out of desperation for the destruction of his family after being pushed to leave them during the rush for gold and opportunity out of the Philippines after Marcos was toppled down. The poor fellow overstayed in Japan and could not go home because of the debts he incurred in raising funds for his trip overseas that I suppose is what is happening to these mercenaries to Iraq likewise with someone I know to be a crook being part and parcel of this special deal with Blackwater that the Kumag is definitely involved in, and then the wife ran away with another man.

He went to the rooftop of the church where a Filipino priest tried to shelter and console him, and jumped head down to his death. Sabog ang utak!

I took charge of negotiating with the police for the early release of his body that the police took for autopsy, etc. because the priest was shocked by what happened as he was trying to talk the Filipino out of what he planned to do when he did. I prayed for the repose of his soul, for God surely could have more compassion than we were/are capable of.

  7. E-mail from Urgie:

Believe or not Gloria Arroyo never admitted that she is the root cause of the disunity among the Filipino people.

How many times did she commit the sin of lying and lying. She even cheated and deceived the people.

According to the statements of CBCP what Gloria must do is to go back to her original sin. To my mind, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) is actually co-sinner of Gloria Arroyo’s original sin in which when she grabbed power from legitimate Presdient Erap Estrada with the conspiracy of late Cardinal Sin, FVR, COPA or elite groups and some military generals and even former chief justice Helario Davide. Passage from the Holy Bible: 2 TIMOTHY 3:13 “Evil people and imposters will flourish. They will go on deceeiving others and they themselves will be deceived. ”

Celebrating Independence Day every June 12 is not considered as breakthrough because until now we have no national pride and identity. The foreign power particularly USA still meddling the affairs of the government through IMF and World Bank.

What we need to do is prove to ourselves that we ware an independent nation by becoming self-reliant in everything and by not submitting ourselves to the whims of foreign powers.

    14 June 2006

Ms. Ellen, I agree with Urgie, the leprechaun never admitted that she, her cohorts and clowns are the very reason in the divisiveness and disunity among us Filipinos, never did the leprechaun admitted that on the day erap was unseated, that causes the divisiveness and disunity among us Filipinos.

On the topic of the CBCP asking, on 12 June, the leprechaun to answer the legitimicy of her presidency??? “TONGRessmen Antonio Cuenco of Cebu City and Edwin Uy of Isabela said the bishops should concern themselves only with spiritual matters” I agree with them that the catholic church should concentrate instead on spiritual matters, however, didn’t these TONGRessmen appealed to the church in 1986 and 2000/01 to help them unseat marcos and erap??? why now they are asking the catholic church to distant from politics???tsk, tsk, tsk???

“According to Cuenco, the teachings of the church should be inspirational, not destructive or vindictive, or overly focused on the past” Yet it is the responsibility of the church to guide us in the right direction/s, and one of the right direction is to ask the leprechaun to prove that she did not “LIE/STEAL/ AND CHEATED ” her way in winning the 2004 election, am I right on this???

AS I said before, I am not against cha-cha, but not now, not under the leadership of the questionable president. Plebiscite to charter change, might be the right solution, ask the people if they want change. But to change the system, we must first change the leadership, why not include in the plebiscite the question of SNAP ELECTION, this way the people will speak.

ANd I say again, WE THE SOVEREIGN FILIPINO PEOPLE SHOULD ASK/CALL ON ELECTIVE AND APPOINTIVE OFFICIALS OF THE COUNTRY TO RESIGN AND MAKE WAY FOR “SNAP ELECTION”, IF THE PRO-LEPRECHAUN CLAIMED THAT THEY WON THE ELECTION FAIR AND SQUARE, THEN CALL A SNAP ELECTION, THIS IS THE ONLY, THE PROS AND ANTI-S CAN REALLY TELL US, THE PEOPLE, WHO REALLY WON THE ELECTION.

  10. ystakei ystakei

You bet, Jinx, the Midget should step down, but then, as they say, she won’t especially now that it’s definite, she would lose her head if she did!

A friend wrote “Power not only intoxicates but also bloats,” observing the photo-ops of the Philippine Independence Day celebration at the Rizal Park in Manila, “Atienza, Romero and Bansot all have excess avoirdupois wguke the others are lean (hungry waiting for their turn). Note Bansot puffy eyelids (and looking more like the Eva Macaraeg of Pangasinan). Lack of sleep?”

  11. ystakei ystakei

Regarding division of the Filipinos, true there was the great divide after EDSA 1 with the Marcos Loyalists VS the EDSA 1 instigators, but that is not the case now.

The people are more united now against the Bansot, her tongressmen, tsutsu at the AFP and the police, and her minions of gambling lords, et al. The ratio is more like 85 to 15, 85 anti-Bansot, and 15 pro-Bansot who are mostly on her payrolls!!!

The problem is the logistics! The protesters and rallyists over there do not have guns and ammunitions to start a real bloody coup! But as far as I am concerned, I would not want them to depend on the US to provide the logistics to them with some terms and conditions that will result in history repeating itself!

  12. goldenlion goldenlion

  15. Goldenlion,

Alam mo, mahirap na dayuhan ang maghari sa bayan mo – it’s like allowing someone else to invade your own home.

Anyway, don’t despair… Gloria can’t win all the time. Good has a way of triumphing over evil.

Sabi nga ni Ellen, essentially, truth cannot be stopped, it has a way of coming out.

  16. Btw, Ellen… I’ve always found it absurd that we celebrate Independence Day for something that happened so fleetingly 108 years ago when the truth of the matter is quite technically, we “gained” independence from a foreign colonizer only some 60 years.

If it will make people happy, perhaps the best thing to do is to celebrate both anniversaries as independence day but to say that we became independent 108 years ago is total nonsense… It’s as if we change D Day or the landing in Normandy from June 6 to December 25….

This is reality, it is backed by facts in history so, why live in a dream? We gotta stare facts in the face lest we continue living in a dream and die of bangungot…

  17. ystakei ystakei

    Anna:

  19. What do you mean “kung totoo yun”? You believe malacanang more than we?

I talked with one of Filipinos who went to Iraq as armed personnel ent by Triple canopy. See my June 13 story.

I talked with Phil rep of BlackwaterUSA. He himself said they have sent Filipino armed personnel in Afghanistan guarding US state dept facilities.

This afternoon I went to look for the RP representative of triple Caopy, mark Villacruzis. He has transferred residence.

I continue to work on the story.

  20. Ellen,

Kindly correct me if I’m wrong, if I remember right, GMA admitted in December of 2003 that she is the reason why our nation is divided and to end this divisiveness, she will not run in the 2004 polls for the presidency.

  21. ystakei ystakei

Apparently, “a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.” I see a lot many Filipinos in Japan with no real contact with the Japanese saying things they hardly know like this visitor of yours, Ellen.

Japan is not dependent on America. The Japanese just have enough shame and propriety to be the parasites that Filipinos tend to be when it comes to their relationship with America that they would even insult their own selves by saying that they won’t be able to remove the criminal suspect oversquatting at the palace by the murky river without US help.

The relationship Japan with the US or even the UK is more inter-dependence especially with the US now in such economic trouble that they need foreign help to invade another country and countries like Japan and UK everwilling to pitch in help because they, too, need the oil that they would not like the Americans in fact to hoard and own alone.

Japan is trying its best to be on equal putting with the US as a matter of fact despite its size and US attempt to subdue Japan by resorting even to Japan bashing when the Japanese show their fangs unlike many Filipinos who would even shamelessly say that they would rather be under US rule again! Unbelievable! What a shame!

Your visitor should be kinder to his fellow Filipinos as a matter of fact, and not easy to accuse everyone as being anti-American just because they do not support US invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan because of a mad man posing as President of a country supposedly to be the model of freedom and democracy!

Sick, really sick! I can’t imagine the people of Japan jumping on the boat that will take them to their death like what the hungry Filipinos are being made to do by recruiters who do not value their lives by letting them fill up vacancies that Americans themselves would not be willing to fill up in Iraq or Afghanistan unless of course they are sick in the head and are willing to commit suicide!

  22. nelbar nelbar

    Ellen,

Mula Jordan to Mainland US via Iloilo and Metro Manila.

“New Trade Route” ika nga sabi sa Larouche.
Kung mapapansin sa mapa na ito: http://www.schillerinstitute.org/fid_97-01/fid_landbridge_map.html

    http://www.schillerinstitute.org/fid_97-01/fid_972-landbridge.html

‘Asian Highway network gathers speed’ ( http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Asian_Economy/HF14Dk01.html )

    Narito:

Happy Birthday sayo, the Pride of the Malayan Race!!!

  23. Nelbar, wow! you are visionary. We should have more peopel like you.

I share your concern why we are not in that “Asian highway”. Paano naman tayo makasali dyan with 100 students in one classroom. Paano naman matuto ang estudyante. Kaya we are producing college graduates who end up as caregivers and domestic helpers in foreign countries.

    Di ba nakakaiyak?

Japan leads the financing of the ADB, so who says that it is not in this project! Without Japanese financial help this project will not even push through as a matter of fact! Puede ba! Just because there is not link to Japan, which is off in the Pacific, it does not mean that Japan has not helped in building this highway.

I know for a fact that Japan has helped Vietnam and India a lot on many projects leading to their present progress and in most cases they are even gratis!!!

Rizal is our hero for all seasons. He, together with Andres Bonifacio, are my hero. I have read Rafael Palma’s “THE PRIDE OF THE MALAY RACE” about 200 times and Teodoro Agoncillo’s “The Revolt of the Masses” about 50 times when I was in UP.

Rizal exposed the “Cancer” of his times and paid dearly for it with his life. Ironically, this cancer , or is it another strain, still persist today. The dawn that Simoun told Basilio about still eludes us.

    Pandawan:

Tama si Rizal when he quoted “Walang maaalipin kung walang nagpapaalipin.”

I actually got to understand this fully after coming to Japan and do my duties and responsibilities as a good and law-abiding citizen of Japan. At least, here we have a real working democracry where the Prime Minister for instance cannot do anything without consulting the majority of at least the representatives of the people.

Here is where you can experience a government FOR, OF and BY the people. Over here, we can kick out the Prime Minister once he fails to do as the majority of the people bid for the sake of the nation, not for any individual as in the Philippines where a criminal suspect even insists on changing the government to insure her permanent stay instead of being made legally responsible for some crimes she has committed against the people of the Republic of the Philippines.
