Gloria Arroyo back at St. Luke’s hospital “for routine checkup”

(The following article is from www.gmanews.tv)

For the third time this year, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was brought to a Quezon City hospital on Saturday where will stay until Sunday for what Malacañang officials and her attending physician called a long-overdue “routine” checkup.

“There is nothing to worry about,” said Dr Julieta Cervantes, Mrs Arroyo’s attending physician at St. Luke’s Medical Center, during a press briefing in the hospital at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

“It’s really an executive checkup,” Cervantes said, adding that “everything is normal”.

The doctor said the Mrs Arroyo will remain confined until Sunday morning and that they expect her to be back in Malacañang by lunch time.

Mrs Arroyo was rushed to the St. Luke’s Medical Center for the first time year last June 22 for a bum stomach. She was discharged from the hospital two days later.

The President was taken to St. Luke’s hospital for the second time last July 27 for the flu. She was in back in the Palace two days later.

Cervantes told reporters that “if there is anything that would compromise the country,” hospital officials would reveal the facts to the public.

The doctor also said First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo was also undergoing a comprehensive executive check-up. He was advised to cut down his weight.

She said doctors had earlier advised Mrs Arroyo to ease up on her schedule but understood that the President has had to keep a hectic schedule.

The annual comprehensive executive check-up will include tests on her heart, lungs, gastrointistinal tract and kidneys.

Presidential Chief of Staff Michael Defensor earlier said the check-up was long overdue.

“There is nothing to worry about. It’s a routine executive checkup. She had been scheduled to undergo a checkup but she had so many activities lined up,” Defensor told dzBB radio.

Presidential Security Group head Romeo Prestoza also denied text messages circulating since late Friday that Arroyo had been hospitalized since evening that day.

“She was at the Palace grounds resting Friday night,” Prestoza said.

Defensor said Arroyo’s “work pace” did not slow down even after her return to the country last November 21 following trips to Vietnam for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit and to Singapore.

Last Friday, Arroyo formally received Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao in a courtesy call at Malacañang, and joined fans in goading him to sing.

But she reportedly showed signs of a cold during the launch of a Catholic television channel at the St. Paul’s College in Quezon City. -GMANews.TV

  1. Expect this monthly visit to the doctor, Ellen. She missed the October appointment but the doctor (a weight control expert, or a plastic surgeon to iron the wrinkles or a real kidney doctor to check her kidneys, etc.) could have visited her during the controversy on the well-equipped clinic at Malacanang turned over to the PSG. It’s the end of the month. She’ll have another visit in December after the Christmas celebration, no doubt!

Talk of “ideal couples” getting to look alike as the years of marriage go by especially if they are engaged in similar “business,” crooked and otherwise!

I won’t pray for her early demise, though. It isn’t for me to wish this crook that. It’s God’s prerogative as a matter of fact. Besides, I want her to rot in jail! 😛

First couple in St. Luke’s for medical tests

President Arroyo and her husband checked into St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City for a routine executive check-up on Saturday, ANC reported.

The report said Mrs. Arroyo will undergo a series of medical examinations together with her spouse, Jose Miguel.

Dr. Juliet Cervantes, the couple’s main attending physician, assured the media that the routine examination of the major organs is part of the Arroyos’ health watch. The President and her husband are in perfectly good condition, she added.

Mrs. Arroyo was briefly hospitalized in June for stomach pains and in July for flu. Doctors advised her then to slow down on her work. The same advice was reportedly given to her Saturday.

Cervantes said she did not give Mrs. Arroyo any restriction on food intake. However, she recommended the first gentleman to lose some weight.

Presidential Chief of Staff Michael Defensor earlier said the first couple will stay overnight in the hospital.

The couple are expected to be discharged Sunday noon and head straight to Malacañan Palace.

Why the visit to the doctor again? It was because of what Bush told her during their recent short meeting that lasted 9 minutes (not 10). Bush said: “Hey Glow, ya look kinda heavy now. Ya look like a little female Santa Claus. What did you do to your face? Gee, look at your body. You used to look a lot better than that the last time we met…” So, that’s it…

Did someone mentioned they both submitted for Medical Checks at the same time? Well, my suspicion is ED. Good Doctors always need both in attendance to assess the needs and dossage for the Mr. and the frequency of medication. Believe me just had a lenghty talk with my doc on the subject and if the Mr. has some kind of Heart issue, watch out, a massive Cardiac Arrest is a possibility. Too bad, on the part of the Male partner..

Would anyone know why, in all instances Gloria went or was rushed to the hospital-June 22, July 27, and the one today- does she have to be in the hospital for 2 days? Is there anything special about 2 days? Is there a pattern here?

  12. Chabeli Chabeli

    Vic,
Pardon my ignorance, but what did you mean when you said that your “suspicion is ED”?

  13. vic vic

    Chabeli,

means simply “impotence” or erectile dysfunction. almost always, the physician will require an interview with the couple, followed by a very thorough Physical exams on the part of the Male Partner, especially on the Heart functions and cholesterol level. Even with heart issue, medication could still be prescirbed but under strict supervision by a physician. there are quite a few effective medications for ED. Talk to your doctor..don’t be shy..

It may change her. Vic, you are a good kidder :).

I’m glad she doesn’t have everything, one that money can’t buy, hahaha!

  17. That’s the hint. The overweight thing. Even when she was first confined at the St. Luke’s, I knew it had something to do with her weight, and she was taking in Diet Pills. I should know, because I had used such pills to lose weight, but I was wiser not to overdo things.

Now, the donya must have asked for her husband to check in likewise, kasi nga nagiging magkamukha na sila. She must have recommended the Diet Pills to him, too, kaya pareho silang nagtae!!! Sana parang cholera ang nangyari sa kanila!

  21. Before I go to bed, here’s a letter to the editor in Tribune from Duque, the Health Secretary that reflects irresponsibility since rabies is supposed to be the concern of the health department of the Philippines to prevent its spread. Now, can you blame if I do not recommend the Philippines to tourists who book at my office?

How inept and incompetent this official is. The nerve of him to blame the Japanese tourists for not getting rabbies vaccination when they went to the Philippines! Malay ba nilang may rabbies sa Pilipinas! Stupid din ano?

How would they know when the Philippine government itself has the the nerve to deny the existence of dreadful epidemics in the Philippines as AIDS and even bird flu!!! Ang daming cover up, and even if there are people dying, they would even have the nerve to deny the existence of these epidemics. OK, so not many Filipinos are dying (or are being denied to have been stricken of these dreadful diseases). Amazingly, they must have gotten immuned to these diseases, and if they do not die, they become carriers!!!

This Duque should send a report and recommendation to WHO to send a warning to all countries concerned to require their citizens to get rabbies and other vaccination when visiting the Philippines. Either way, it is bad for tourism!

We have apparently better health services in Japan, and more concerned health workers that diseases can be easily tracked down.

Backward talaga. Salaula kasi! 😡

    11/26/2006

    Dear Editor:

I would like to clarify a crucial detail on the “rabies-killed Japanese,” which appeared in the front page of the Tribune (Nov. 24, 2006).

May I explain that although I said the Japan Embassy should have warned incoming Japanese tourists that rabies is endemic in the Philippines, I do not categorically hold them solely responsible for the two rabies deaths involving their citizens and I did not use the term “blame” in interviews I accorded the media this week.

In my opinion, the term “blame” is a very big and strong word that should not be used if it was not personally spoken or written by the person to whom it was attributed. Although it could be heard or read in that complex, using the word “blame” or any strong word for that matter as one’s interpretation of a statement opens the whole story to various versions, specially if the word was not directly spoken or written by the subject.

I have told the media, in good faith, that if only their embassy had issued early warnings to their countrymen who come here in the country, it would not have happened because we have always been transparent about what diseases are endemic in the country. Advisories are routinely issued to every incoming tourist by their respective embassies, especially when visiting countries with known high prevalence of certain diseases. The Philippines ranks fifth on the World Health Organization’s list of countries with high endemicity of rabies. And we would like to recommend to them to include a pre-exposure anti-rabies inoculation to their list of required vaccinations for Japanese citizens bound for the country.

I am raising this issue to prevent anything from somehow affecting the current cordial ties between the country and Japan. Thank you for giving me the opportunity.

    KAYA PA BA NI GMA?

Nina Boyet Jadulco at Grace Velasco

    BALIK-SELDANG SAYYAF
    11/26/06

First Couple (Pangulo at First Gentleman Mike Arroyo).

I hope it is nothing serious and that she gets well soon,” ani Gordon.

“Nothing to worry about. This is really an executive check-up that most of us are encouraged to have. Wala po kayong dapat na ipangamba. Wala pong problema ang First Couple. It’s just that we have to do this because it’s a scheduled annual check-up,” ani Cervantes.

“We will maintain confidentiality but don’t worry when there’s something that we think will compromise the country then we will inform you. I don’t think there will be anything significant with this executive check-up. Right now everything is normal, everything with her lab exams as well as the other blood exams,” paliwanag ng doktor.

“…but I’m sure she knows her limits. As long as she knows her limits I think we are still on the right track,” dagdag nito.

But having Doctors in the Family, I give the St. Luke Physicians the confidence that they are telling the truth and not part of the conspiracy of cover up. Because as President, the President’s health is also a Public Affair and even the Congress could request her to hand her power to her successor temporarily for health reason. WHO takes care of the President?

Dr. Juliet Cervantes, President Arroyo’s main attending physician, is one of the only two specialists in treating cancer of the liver at St. Luke’s Medical Center, according to sources in the hospital.

The sources said Cervantes, a gastro-enterologist, specializes in the Radio Frequency Ablation process, one of the available treatments for liver cancer.

The same sources also said Cervantes accompanied the President in her European trip few months ago to monitor her condition.

Dr. Joven Cuanang, head of St. Luke’s, has said “St. Luke’s has always been the President’s hospital

Soliven apparently was already feeling sick and was about to board his flight back to Manila when he collapsed. He was taken to a hospital near the airport. Cardiac arrest as a complication of the pneumonia.

I doubt if that was the reason why the Fatso couple checked in at St Luke’s. Nagtae lang ang mga ungas because of the diet pills maybe.

Sa isang press conference, binanggit ni Cervantes ang ganito, “We assure all Filipinos there is nothing to worry about.”

Hehehe.

No matter what the Constitution says about the state of health of a president being a national matter that must be divulged to the Filipino people, everyone and his uncle know that these matters will always be a state secret, especially when something is really wrong with the presidential health.

For that matter, even presidential bets blatantly lie about the state of their health, knowing that their chances of winning the polls are cut if their health state was made public.

An example of this was the denial of the late Sen. Raul Roco, whom the Tribune earlier reported to have been suffering from prostrate cancer. This was denied vehemently by Roco, but in the end, when it could no longer be hidden, the Tribune report was proved to be accurate.

It is even more of a state secret when it comes to the presidential health. The late strongman Ferdinand Marcos was suffering from lupus and had a kidney problem. Talk was rife that Marcos was extremely ill, yet state propaganda continued to claim that Marcos was in the pink of health.

It appears to be the same thing with Gloria Arroyo. At least three times this year, Gloria has been rushed to the hospital publicly. No one quite knows just how many times she went to a hospital privately since she does not always appear in public and merely has her spin doctors come up with releases saying she did this and that without the need of her making a public appearance.

The one time she was rushed to a hospital from a restaurant, her spin doctors immediately claimed that she had an upset stomach, intestinal flu, and even the claim of being stressed out from working hard, which was a lot of crap, since it was later found out that she had a liver problem. Even this was denied by her doctors who later admitted that she had a fatty liver, which was probably not the entire truth.

Talk is making the rounds that it is not just a liver problem that she has. There has been loose talk about her being bipolar and something else. And as her doctors aren’t talking, even when they have the duty to do so, this will remain unconfirmed until of course, she is out of power.

It was the same thing during the Marcos years.

Coffeeshop talk buzzed about his lupus and his kidney problem. He even underwent surgery but this was kept away from the public, as the doctors kept on claiming that he was in the pink of health, while his propaganda machine churned up dated pictures to show everyone he was up and about when he was not.

Gloria’s case is no different, with her aides coming up with explanations that this was routine.

This time around, her chief of staff claimed that Gloria underwent a yearly check-up and that nothing was wrong with her.

If she had a yearly check-up, this was probably the first time ever in the six years of her power grab, since nothing was ever said about her having her yearly check-ups.

The talk making the rounds is that Gloria has a cyst in her liver, but again, as the presidential doctors aren’t abiding by that which the Constitution demands, the medical claim is one that says she is in the pink of health. She certainly does not have to extend her stay in the hospital if that were the case.

What was claimed then was that she wanted to be with Big Mike who was also having a check-up at the same time. So why was Big Mike taking longer? And why does Gloria insist on staying on? Didn’t she once say she was married to the government?

But Gloria and her aides wanting to keep on hiding her true state of health is really silly, given that there is not one Cabinet secretary who will bother to go to Congress and declare that she is temporarily unfit to discharge her duties, which is what the Constitution demands the Cabinet to do. But this would also mean that they will be out of power as well, and this they will never do.

Already, they are moving heaven and earth to retain power through Charter change, despite their awareness of the public wanting to boot Gloria and her allies out of government, sick or physically fit.

Still, in the Philippines, there is no such thing as a secret. The truth will come out, sooner than later.

    ****

From Ducky Paredes column, Malaya, 11/28/06

‘(T)he Palace boys are best reminded as to who is paying the medical bills of Gloria (and Mike) Arroyo.’
    How healthy is that?

It is probably the wrong thing to say, as Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita says, that President Arroyo is as “healthy as the economy.” That is just not so reassuring about the state of our economy.

After all, just this year, this is her third visit to St. Luke’s Hospital where, no matter her avowed medical complaint – bum stomach, the flu and, for now, a regular medical check-up – she has been attended to by the same doctor – Juliet Gopez-Cervantes, who is not an ordinary doctor but is one of only two St. Luke’s specialists on liver cancer.

While we would like nothing but to believe in the ever-optimistic medical bulletins coming out of Malacañang, the Palace boys are best reminded as to who is paying the medical bills of Gloria (and Mike) Arroyo. As the bill-payers, the Filipino people have a right to know where their money is being spent. Besides, there is also a provision in the Constitution that was written to avoid what happened in the last few years of the Marcos years when we all knew from the rumor mills that Apo Marcos was ill but, as with everything that is really bad news, we were the last to know the truth about the health of our president and dictator.

Woe to the city, rebellious and polluted, the tyrannical city.
She hears no voice, accepts no correction. In the Lord she has not trusted,To the Lord God she has not drawn near.
Her princes in her midst are roaring lions, her judges are wolves. Her prophets are insolent treacherous men.
I the Lord have destroyed nations, their battlements laid waste and their streets deserted.Surely now you will fear me,you will accept correction. She should not fail to see all I have visited upon her,yet the more eagerly have they continued their corrupt deeds.
Therefore wait for me says the Lord, against that day when I arise as the accuser. For it is my decision to gather all nations and kingdoms, in order to pour out my wrath and all my blazing anger. For in the fire of my jealousy shall the earth be consumed.
For I will change and purify the lips of the people, that they may call upon the name of the Lord God and serve with one accord. From the south to the far recess of the north they shall bring me offerings.
On that day,you need not be ashamed of all your deeds, your rebellious actions against me,For then I will remove from your midst the proud braggarts, and shall not again exalt themselves on my holy mountain.
But I will leave a remnant in your midst, a people humble and lowly;Who shall take refuge in the name of the
Lord God. They shall do no wrong and speak no lies, nor shall there be found in their mouths a deceitful tounge.
They shall pasture and tend their flocks with none to disturb them.

I’ve a feeling Gringo would again escape…before Christmas or New Year. I got this from inside source. His escape could come from either the government or the other side. Guardians are everywhere…some are not identified. Who knows, the ones guarding Gringo might be his comrades. I also say the government might allow him to escape to stop him from running this coming election. If he hides and remains a fugitive, he cannot run. If he’s in jail and not yet convicted, he is eligible to run and campaign. If Gringo is elected again to the Senate, it’s another headache for GMA’s administration.

  65. Mrivera Mrivera

Glue has bipolar disorder according to what Ninez Olivares of Tribune has been hearing. (Read probably yesterday or the day before) I actually know of someone who committed suicide bec of bipolar disorder.

  72. artsee artsee

Ano ba ang bipolar disorder? Iyon mahilig gumamit ng binacular?

A short introduction about bipolar disorder from a website:

“Bipolar disorder, also known as manic-depressive illness, is a brain disorder that causes unusual shifts in a person’s mood, energy, and ability to function. Different from the normal ups and downs that everyone goes through, the symptoms of bipolar disorder are severe. They can result in damaged relationships, poor job or school performance, and even suicide.”

For anyone interested to know more, just ask google, there are heaps of things one can read about it.

    artsee, chi,

  76. norpil norpil

i knew several with manic depression.i doubt if this is gma sickness since she is violent to the filipinos but not to herself.if not controlled they normally are against themselves which sometimes end in suicide as was said above.on the other hand i hope she has this sickness for then one can just steal her pills and she might end our problems herself.

  77. norpil norpil

i read in the news that some of her cabinet members must undergo dialysis several times a week.why are these people working when they should have been forcedly retired?

  78. npongco npongco

GMA picks and appoints her cabinet members not because of their competence and health; but their loyalty to her. Same with these AFP and PNP Generals. Despite the tons of graft and human rights abuse cases, involvement in election cheating, they were promoted. After retirement, they are appointed to juicy government positions. That’s how this evil woman keeps herself in power.

  79. norpil norpil

polar bears are the most beautiful and strongest in its species. i read that it can run about 200 km/hr.i hope gma has some of its speed when the people run after her.

Know the meaning of the name of your Country and your Presidents

Jose means He will enlarge.

I believe names does affect our lives. baka po na magdadala ang new name ng luck para mas la-laki ang halaga ng pera natin. Rizal, ewan ko po ano ang ibig sabihin ng Rizal. pero, iwasan nyo po ang mga pangalan na may kahulugan na war, tulad ng Imelda means the whole battle, at ang marcos, marcus means warlike; warrior. and that is one of my proof that name does affect our lives. dahil noong si marcos ang presidente ng pilipinas, di ba there is a war with mnlf?

Gloria ay glory, Arroyo means 2 distinctive association; the south western natural formation of a gully or stream; cincinatti reds; starting pitcher.

SANA PO JOSE RIZAL NA LANG ANG PANGALAN NG COUNTRY NATIN dahil he is the writer of the pearl of the orient. and because we, karapat dapat magkaroon ng sarili nating pangalan.
