Detained Army Capt. Dante Langkit mulls running for Congress

This Esperon is perverse. He subjected Capt. Dante Langkit to severe pressure by confining him to solitary confinement for 10 months. Now the young officer has apologized for his involvement in the Feb. 2006 and is asking for permission to be permitted to campaign because he is running under the Genuine Opposition for a congressional seat. He says he has forgiven Langkit. If that’s a source of satisfaction for Esperon, he is perverse. Click here for ABS-CBN story.

Update on Langkit’s letter to Esperon. Click here.

Detained Capt. Dante Langkit is contemplating running for the lone congressional seat in his home province of Kalinga.

langkit-twins-feb27.JPGHe wrote AFP Chief of Staff Hermogenes Esperon today asking permission to campaign.

Langkit is implicated in the alleged Feb. 2006 coup plot against Gloria Arroyo. He went AWOL sometime in January 2006 and arrested three months after.

Until two weeks ago, he was held in solitary confinement and pressured to turn witness for the government. <
His ten-month solitary confinement has taken a toll on his health. He lost 50 lbs but his spirit was never broken.

His twin brother Danzel is thankful that Dante can now “see the sun”.

Langkit, who was with he Philippine Army’s Special Operation Command, went AWOL (Absence without leave) shortly after the escape of four Magdalo r four Magdalo officers – – Captain Nathaniel Rabonza and First Lieutenants Lawrence San Juan, Patricio Bumidang and Sonny Sarmiento – escaped from military detention in Fort Bonifacio last January 17.

He was rumored to be part in the planning of the Oakwood mutiny but he was cleared because he was not around during the actual siege.

Esperon accused Langkit of recruiting soldiers for the February coup plot hen he was on AWOL.

Photo above shows Capt. Dante Langkit bidding goodbye to his brother, Danzel, an engineer and civilian government employee, as he prepares to return to detention after yesterday’s hearing.

  1. I don’t know what Langkit’s chances are but if he is determined to run for Congress, he should.

I know from a reliable source that the local officials there have already been promised big sums of money if they will cheat for the Pidals. Graft and corruption in Kalinga has become so rampant that people with honor and dignity like Langkit must have felt he had had enough.

Kalinga is apparently one of the provinces that the Pidals have poured a lot of money in, and eyed for the TUTA victory especially with the rumored close ties of the governor there with Angara.

Still, there are people like Langkit who find it immoral that the Pidals would squander government funds to buy the people of Kalinga to insure their subservience to the crooks. They will be the ones who will thwart any plan to let another cheating prevail there as rumored. He may try the same thing Trillanes plan to do in order to be an effective public servant even via virtual techonology. The fight will no longer be mano a mano but Vista a Vista!!!

    .

So let me get this straight. The underlying assumption in what you say above is that if it is an Administration congressman, that automatically makes him/her bad, and if it is an Opposition congressman, that automatically makes him/her good?

    Tsk tsk.

This is what I’ve been harping about. Most bozos use political parties and affiliations (which if you look into these carefully stand for ZILCH as far as ideology and platform is concerned) to glibly judge the quality of the candidates.

It’s ironic as I said. Pinoy political parties are hollow at the core. They stand for NOTHING. And yet we make judgments about the candidates based on their party affiliation.

Talk about an intellectually bankrupt society.

Capt. Dante Langkit? Another promise hope? I believe, if we’re to examine the elected positions presently in Congress, especially in Senate with both Mom and Son Jose Estrada in-placed, Lacson, Pia Cayetano, Magsaysay, Biazon, Drillon, Enrile, Flavier, Gordon, Villar and others, these are formidable names with closed ties with the opposition. I trusted these people should’ve done at least something to fight the illegal govt and corruption. Yet, they’ve been silenced with little or no spark all these years while illegitimate Gloria goes about anything she wishes without to much opposition, especially from the Estradas combo. Seriously, what have they done while in Congress when one member of their family was railroaded to Tanay. I would like to know, anyone? Hence, new faces coming in or Langkit, Trillanes, et al are not going to make any different or put any dent to Gloria’s enchanted kingdom, in my opinion. Election is just an exercise in futility, an excuse to blame someone for cheating, waste of resources, tax money, justification that Philippines is a democratic society, yet it’s a false hope.

“Talk about an intellectualy bankrupt society.” Wow! Don’t be hard on all of us. Some of us has, i’m quite sure, the understanding of how things are in politics, the political aspect in the country and the politician themselves, I believe. I think, we’ve been fooled too many times by these politicians, and it really doesn’t matter anymore to what affiliation one belong to. Just imagine how many political parties there are in the Philippines, do we have enough fingers to count them?

  6. “Talk about an intellectualy bankrupt society.” Wow, what a description coming from equally morally and intellectually bankrupt member of this society. Question is what do you guys intend to do to correct this condition that has actually nothing to do with heredity I guess since God has made sure in fact to equip all His creations, including the Filipinos, with enough intelligence that is no doubt being hampered and not allowed to develop properly because of leaders, bogus and otherwise, that they have the misfortune to be elected to positions they don’t deserve to have!!!

No. 1 problem in the Philippines in fact is the lack of will on the part of those running the government now to implement some compulsory education law that would in fact remove children from the streets! Less education, less intelligent people to kick out these crooks now running their country like hell!!!

    Ellen,

Extend my best wishes to Capt Langkit. Good luck to him. I wish he will win a seat at the House of Representatives.

Will see how the Bansot will solicit the help once again of Mr. Noted to make her TUTA win. Golly, all praises iyong ASO kay Singson, et al!!! Nakakasuka!!!

In the last analysis we must be judged by what we do and not by what we believe. Our religion is what we do when the sermon is over. This is what I call the two sides of our moral intellect. One that we preach but do not practice, and one that we practice but never preach.

  12. Ellen,

Politics and military never made for good bedfellows.

More than ever, because of what this Tiyanak is doing, our military is even more politicized – for these young lands to want to go into politics to make their grievances be heard is excellent but that kind of modus operandi cannot last because the military as an institution risks never becoming professional.

Anyway, I don’t score these young officers for joining the political fray, after all if former Communist and NPA sympathizers/hardliners are allowed to become members of a Congress Party List, why not the military?

P********nang Gloria ‘yan! She and Esperon supot are transforming the military into one giant MILITICS octopus!

  13. Country is not only morally bankrupt it is also defence bankrupt…

For a nation of more than 80 million souls, a military of less than 125,000 is miniscule.

Out of those 125,000, you have a couple of hundred of officers and men at most who are prepared to take on Gloria Tiyanak and Mike Pig Arroyo seconded by foxhole digging officers Esperon & Tolentino backed up by trouble-making police officers from the PNP and PSG.

Esperon and Tolentino cannot compare to the courage of ONE Querubin NOR of ONE Lim.

  14. Sorry to insert this here, but Kiko is now out of the United Opposition group since he claimed that he was NOT in anyway. Now, he says that he is looking for another sponsor and the Noli de Castro is there to lend him a hand—bahala na kayo sa implication.

Ungas talaga!!! Buti nga sa kaniya!

One thing good about this, friends, is that it proved something—hindi pa eleksyon, naririnig na natin ang tinig ng bayan!!! Gaya ng sabi ni LVM:

IBASURA ANG ADMINISTRASYON! IBOTO ANG OPOSISYON! GO 11+0!

Huwag lang mandaya ulit ala-Garci with the sanction and blessing of Abalos, pihado 11+0 ang labanan!!!

Blessing in disguise iyong nangyayaring kaso tungkol doon sa KBL Cayetano. Nagugulo ang dayaan. Kaya lang Ellen,
balita ko mas maraming cut and pasted canvasses ngayon!!!

  16. chi chi

    Yuko,

Mike “Indiana Jones” Defensor should be at the top in Manila survey. Mike’s supposed bailiwick is in National Capital Region. I heard that Mike Defensor’s real bailiwick is Metro Manila nightspots. Pandak’s Team Unity needs massive fraud and hundreds of Garci clones for 12-0 victory.

  22. Malaya’s update on Langkit:

Officer in Feb. 24 plot apologizes to Esperon

    by Victor Reyes

ARMY Scout Ranger Capt. Dante Langkit, one of the officers facing court martial for the failed Feb. 24, 2006 plan to oust President Arroyo, has apologized for the “disappointments” he may have caused Armed Forces chief Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr.

In a letter dated Feb. 21, 2007, Langkit also asked Esperon to allow him out to campaign for the lone congressional seat of Kalinga, his home province.

“I am truly sorry if I have caused you disappointments and I sincerely thank you for your personal concern of which I have been aware,” the 35-year-old Langkit, who once served as Esperon’s aide, said.

“May I respectfully ask your permission that I be allowed to campaign in my province during the election period. I give you my word of honor that I will not grant any interview or make statements save on issues locally affecting my province which I feel to be relevant in the election process,” the letter added.

“Above all, I will report to you (Esperon) after the election period,” Langkit also said, as he reiterated “my gratitude as ever, I remain steadfast to the chain of command.”

Esperon was out when Langkit’s twin brother Danzel delivered the letter to his office yesterday morning.

Danzel said his brother will run under the Genuine Opposition if Esperon approves his request. If Esperon does not, Danzel said his brother will rethink his political plans.

Danzel said his brother’s apology to Esperon, whom he has always considered a father, was “an emphatic respect to the leadership of Gen. Esperon.”

Earlier reports had it that Langkit was kept in solitary confinement for 10 months to force him to testify against the group of former Scout Ranger commander Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim and former Marine commandant Maj. Gen. Renato Miranda with whom he is facing, along with 25 other officers, a general court martial for the Feb. 24 plot.

Langkit was transferred to the Custodial Management Unit at Army headquarters in Fort Bonifacio some two weeks ago. “He is now smiling because he has a better place now. He can watch TV, he can read newspapers this time. He can walk around. The space is a bigger. I am very thankful to the leadership of the AFP that finally after 10 months of solitary confinement, my brother has been transferred to the CMU,” Danzel said.

Danzel would not speculate, however, if the reason for the improved quarters of his brother is in exchange for his testimony against Lim. “He made a history as the longest element of the AFP staying in a bartolina. Maybe, they might have given up. They have been convincing him but nothing happened. He has not mentioned anything. I know nothing about it,” Danzel said.

Last Tuesday, AFP public information office chief Lt. Col. Bartolome Bacarro said Langkit had been moved to Camp Capinpin in Tanay, Rizal, along with the Marine officers also implicated in the failed plot.

Danzel said Langkit has chosen to join politics because “he feels that he has a slim future in the AFP with the way he is treated now…He feels that this is the best option (to take).” He added that his brother’s chances are good in Kalinga because of his “unquestionable integrity” and his “courage and leadership principle beyond question.” – Victor Reyes
