Pamaypay protest

Last Tuesday, the Concerned Citizens Group and Kontra Daya held an innovative silent protest while watching the canvassing of the senatorial votes at the PICC. They wanted to convey the message to Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos and his fellow commissioners that the citizenry would not allow another thwarting of their will.

New glossary

A sense of humor is the Filipino’s best coping mechanism. And that’s sharpened in times of crisis. Lawyer Edwin Lacierda sent us the euphemisms and terms he learned during the 2007 elections which he didn’t learn in law school: 1. Clerical error. Getting caught cheating and explaining it away;

Comelec’s idea of “successful” election

Comelec has declared the special elections generally peaceful and successful. Here’s Inquirer’s report: The watchdogs were no match for the cheaters and the just-ended elections here were not only “not credible” but worse than those of 2004 — the year of the “Hello Garci” tapes. This was how the monitors of the National Citizens’ Movement […]

Close encounter with MJ

The public drama involving businessman Mark Jimenez and wife Carol brings me back to my interview with the controversial former adviser of President Estrada in 1999 when I did an article about him for I-Magazine of the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism. It was a weird interview, one that I can say was the most […]
