Last Tuesday, the Concerned Citizens Group and Kontra Daya held an innovative silent protest while watching the canvassing of the senatorial votes at the PICC. They wanted to convey the message to Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos and his fellow commissioners that the citizenry would not allow another thwarting of their will.
Since silence and decorum are required from the audience during the canvassing, how does one stage a protest?
The group led by Josie Lichauco, former transportation and communications secretary; Harry Roque of the UP College of Law, and Fr. Joe Dizon arrived at the PICC at past 9:30 a.m. They had in their bags homemade cardboard fans with the face of “Hello Garci” on one side and “Election Terrorists” (Gloria Arroyo, Benjamin Abalos, and Virgilio Garcillano) on the other side.
At the agreed time, 10:30 a.m., while Atty. Leila de Lima, lawyer of GO senatorial candidate Alan Cayetano,was questioning the discrepancies in the Davao del Sur certificates of Canvass, they brought out their pamaypay and started fanning themselves.
Members of media took notice and started taking pictures as the protestors profusely and nonchalantly waved their “Hello Garci” and “Election Terrorists” pamaypays
The Comelec guards came and told them that “placards are prohibited” inside the canvassing area. “What placard?” social scientist Triccie Sison innocently asked the guards as she continued fanning herself.
“Mainit!,” Bebu Bulchen complained as she continued to wave her Hello Garci fan in the airconditioned hall.
Comelec security didn’t know what to do with the prim and proper guests.
I don’t know if the building management was responding to the complaints of the group about “the heat” but I noticed the room temperature became colder; I had to put on my jacket. But the “protestors” continued fanning themselves.
When Abalos annnounced the adjournment of the day’s canvassing, the group marched out, still fanning themselves, as TV cameras followed them.

I like this idea of the pamaypay. Good! And I’m proud of Harry Roque for being one of the warriors on behalf of the millions of Filipinos already up to their necks with this unano.
Apparently, she is now having difficulty pimping Filipinos overseas. In Japan, she brought this Egcel Lagman, who has bragged about human trafficking being the Philippines’ No. 1 Industry hoping that he would be her spokesperson in trying to sell the pseudo-entertainers again to Japan. “Flat No!” was the response, pero hindi papatalo ang ungas. Ang sabi daw, “There are fewer OFWs now but it is OK, because remittances have doubled.” She failed to tell the Filipinos here though that the remittances doubled because the remittances of Filipinos were sending before could no longer suffice because of the hocus-pocus depreciation of the dollar against the peso even when in fact the Philippines export cannot much its imports, and the unano depends only on the OFW to bouy up Philippine economy.

We better take advantage of the window of opportunity of free protest. When the anti-terror bill kicks in July, who knows what the tiyanak and her bodyguards will do. Maybe a mere possession of a fan will send someone to jail. The tiyanak is geared for this, putting all her opponents in prison!
Abalaos is finally saying that the riggers in Maguindanao are being tracked and sacked. The way I see it, the evidences are just so glaring and the watch dogs are just too many and effective that their cheating ways can simply not go through. For all we know, these election riggers are in safe houses provided by no other than the tiyanak and her cheating election officers! Let us see what the Abalaos is going to do next. I wonder why this comic Abalaos is still not declaring the Maguindanao elections as a failed exercise! Just taking his sweet time to make a hairpin turn and make the tiyanak candidates win! We really have to watch out for this Abalaos and his riggers. It is not over until it is really over!

Let’s not blame too much the poor in Mindanao. In fact, a lot of them we know now did not vote because they are just too afraid to with all those soldiers, warlords and their bodyguards, tulisans acting like revolutionists, etc. brandishing their guns at the poor populace. I actually just based my conclusion on the visit of the unano in Japan when the newspapers would not even give a slot about her visit except the protest against her that the government has taken note of. I have a feeling, too, that it was conveniently used to turn down any request by the utangera for additional grants from Japan because the Japanese are not stupid to know that she cannot pay, panay lang ang puri sa sariling no accomplishments, puro panaginip lang!
She did not get anything here in fact, just promises from private sectors about possible (note possible) investments in the Philippines, but I won’t rely on such as a matter of fact. Remember the supposed deal with Sony during the FVR regime. Ang laking balita iyong dito about Sony building a big plant in the Philippines. Tapos biglang sabi Sony is withdrawing from such talks and transferring its proposed plant somewhere else.

Filipino are politically maturing? Hmmmm…konti pa! They should have harsher laws to stop these cheatings and they should be sure to implement them. Hindi kailangan ang anti-terror bill na katulad ng ipapairal sa July. That bill in fact should not have been passed and approved. Over here, I understand our lawmakers made our own anti-terror on the prompting of the UN in 2001 that was in fact revised in 2003 after I think the police and lawmakers here found the UN recommendations not so applicable to the Japanese situation, and because of course the people here will not agree to any rule or law that will curtail their basic freedoms as guaranteed by the Constitution. Dito kasi ang mga tao pag nagsalita, “According to the Constitution….” ang banat! I wish Filipinos back home would learn to say the same!
