Voting 17 to 4 on Resolution 22 Wednesday, the Senate officially asked the court to allow detained Senator Antonio Trillanes IV to perform his duties as senator.
Only Senators Joker Arroyo, Juan Ponce-Enrile, Richard Gordon, and Miriam Defensor-Santiago voted against the resolution.
Along with Trillanes, Senator Manuel Lapid was not in the session hall when the voting took place.
Neophyte Senator Miguel Zubiri, the object of Trillanes’ tirades over the questionable Maguindanao votes, said his vote for the resolution was a gesture of forgiveness.
“Personally I had doubts in supporting this measure after Senator Trillanes has publicly insulted this humble representation and maligned my integrity on national television,” Zubiri said. “But I have forgiven him, and in the spirit of reconciliation and magnanimity, I am extending my hands of cooperation. I am looking forward to working with him and debating with him on issues before this chamber.”
Another freshman, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, said unlike the case of former congressman and convicted rapist Romeo Jalosjos, Trillanes’ is a political crime and not the common crime of rape.
He also cited the case of Enrile, who, during the term of former president Corazon Aquino, was charged and jailed for the “invented crime of rebellion complex with murder.”
“The crime was invented so that Enrile cannot come to this hall and perform his duties as senator,” Cayetano pointed out, also noting that the central issue of the Senate resolution is about representation.
“Is it wrong for us to express our sense so that the court can hear from us?” he asked.
Gordon, for his part, said his vote was a vote against Trillanes’ participation in the 2003 Oakwood mutiny.
Senator Francis Escudero said the Constitution, including its provision on separation of powers, does not prohibit the Senate from expressing its sentiment.
Even the normally quiet Senator Ramon Revilla Jr. stood up to explain his vote with the maxim: “Vox populi, vox Dei (The voice of the people is the voice of God).”
The others who voted in favor of the resolution were: Senate President Manuel Villar, Senate Pro Tempore Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada, Senate Majority Leader Francis Pangilinan, Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr., and Senators Edgardo Angara, Benigno Aquino III, Pia Cayetano, Rodolfo Biazon, Gregorio Honasan, Panfilo Lacson, Loren Legarda, Ana Consuelo Madrigal, and Manuel Roxas II.

Zubiri may think he saved his ass from ridicules by voting for the resolution. Think again. Tyanak never had peace with anything since the people found out of her cheating, not even peace with herself. In addition with Zubiri’s burdens on choosing which identity he/she really wants, Zubiri will suffer the same.

Question now is when is the Court going to decide on the Senate petition? Don’t underestimate Gloria’s reach – while I generally believe that our courts aren’t all “purchaseable”, when you have a Palace that’s led by a vindictive vermin like Gloria, I tend to have second thoughts.
I do hope that for once the courts will do something judicious as in morally judicious to erase Davide’s perfidy little by little. A lifetime ain’t enough to do that!

Miriam Santiago voted against the resolution expressing Senate support for bail for Trillanes. Those who did not sign the resolution were:Santiago, Enrile, Gordon, Joker Arroyo.
Oh, at the beginning that’s what I read and then I had this notion (blimey, must be the flu) I thought in the end only Enrile opposed the resolution – but reading back, you’re right:

Miriam has long been a “Double Speak”. How she convinced the voters and a lot of others her being geuinely ‘intellectual’ and refined lady is beyond me. Gloria’s demeanour all throughout her illegal stay in Malacanang (which she seems to want to prolong past 2010) has always been that of a platoon sargeant.

Morality, Anna? Brain damaged nga sabi nila. When this creep’s son died, she said that she would quit politics because it was what her late son wished for. BTW, when I left for SFO, I reported to our ward office that I would be out of the country during the election. The personnel in charge gave me the necessary documents to quality for absentee voting that I can send by post from my place of residence outside of the country. I did, and my vote is due to arrive in Tokyo on the day before our election on the 29th because of the efficiency of the postal service between the USA and Japan. Wala niyan sa Pilipinas.
The one in charge of election in Japan in fact is the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, which should correspond to the Department of Local Governments in the Philippines. We do not have a Comolec in Japan!!! 😛
