Sa ngayon, ipagdasal natin na mahinto na itong kahibangan ni Gloria Arroyo at ng kanyang mga opisyal.Kawawa ang ating mga sundalo at ang mga inosenteng sibilyan na nadadawit sa giyera na hindi natin alam kung para saan at kanino.
Mula noong Hulyo 10, ang unang bakbakan sa Tipo-tipo kung saan 14 Marines ang namatay (10 ay pinugutan ng ulo), hindi natin alam kung saang direksyon patungo ang mga ginagawa ng ating military. Katulad na lamang nitong warrant of arrest na inisyu para sa 130 na miyembro ng Moro Islamic Liberation Front at Abu Sayyaf na sangkot raw sa pagpugot ng ulo ng mga namatay na Marines.
Maliban sa hindi nila ma-serve dahil siyempre hindi nila makita kung saan na yung 130 na yun, expired na ang na-isyu na warrant of arrest. Sa news report noong isang araw na binalik ng Philippine National Police ang warrant of arrests kay Judge Leo Principe ng Basilan 9th Division Regional Judicial Branch 1.
Mabuti naman at nakakita ng lusot ang PNP. Dahil sila mismo hindi alam kung saan nanggaling ang mga pangalan na nasa sa listahan nina AFP Chief Hermogenes Esperon.
Noong isang araw sinabi pa ni Esperon na maglalagay raw siya ng mga litrato ng 130 na yun para madali makilala. Pinagtatawan lang daw ng mga taga-Basilan. Sabi nila, saan kaya kukuha ng mga litrato si Esperon, sa internet? Sino naman kayang litrato ang kanilang kukunin na I-match doon sa mga pangalan na kung saan nila pinulot?
Noong isang linggo pa, sinabi ni General Rodolfo Garcia, chairman ng government panel sa peace talks sa MILF, na kailangan bawiin ang listahan na yun at “linisin.” Ayun kasi sa mga witness na nagtestify sa magkasamang imbestigasyon ng pamahalaan at ng MILF, apat ang nakita nilang namumugot samantalang ang anim ay nanonod lang. Pwedeng may iba pang namugot ngunit apat lang ang nakita ng mga witness.
Ngunit ang nakapagtataka, isa lang doon sa apat ang nasa 130 na pangalan.
Ngunit malinis lamang ang listahan, ibig sabihin noon, ang talagang sangkot lang sa pugutan, kung magpetition ang MILF sa korte. Ang problema, hindi recognized ng MILF ang korte. Di ba ang paniwala nila dapat may sarili silang gobyerno?
Kaya ganyan, ibinalik ngayon sa korte ang mga warrant of arrest. Siguro inaasahan ng mga palpak na opisyal ng military na makalimutan na lamang ng taumbayan at ng mga Marines ang July 10 na trahedya. Bagong bakbakan na naman. May mga bagong parada na naman ng bangkay.

This heartless Arroyo government must be stopped before more young officers get killed. In just one instance, four PMAers from the same Batch 2006 perished in that encounter. This is one of the very few instances when we have a huge number of officers killed in one encounter. Something is wrong…

Families of these fallen soldiers should be encouraged to bind together and demand full investigation of these killings even with the consent, if not negligence of the leadership in the military conniving with the hoodlums in Mindanao, even with those hometown leaders who are oftentimes patrons of these hoodlums who give them protection in exchange for special favors, etc.
The families of these soldiers should demand for the resignation/termination of the Chief of Staff and other members of the present AFP hierarchy. They should also demand for the impeachment of the criminal who is the cause of all that they have suffered, and their losses.

The truth is it is easy for the US to form a special brigade composed of Philippine-born or US-born US soldiers of Filipino descent with native Filipino features that would not make them conspicuous, and they can always pretend to be members of the AFP instead of some US battalion from Okinawa or Guam, where there are big US military installations.
But since they have not reported any US casualty yet, I’m willing to give the US the benefit of the doubt as it continues to deny that the presence of the US military personnel in Mindanao is more for practical and technical reasons than to meddle in dirty Philippine politics unless of course their motive and purpose in doing so are far from being altruistic.

Has anybody from your bloggers suggested the declaration of “Martial Law” in Basilan & Sulo (and parts of Mindanao where there are killings & bombings and where the ASG and MILF/MNLF are involved)? The “root cause” of the problem in these areas is the proliferation of loose firearms in the hands of the politicians, MNLF/MILF, ASG and our Muslim brothers. Let the AFP & PNP implement the declaration of Martial Law and let us see what will happen.
I sympathize with these young officers and men of the Philippine Marines and I salute their bravery & courage. But something is wrong with the said operations. These young lieutenants are not well-trained with this kind of operations. Where is the Light Reaction Companies of the Philippine Army which was trained and equipped by US of A
Special Forces? These companies are suited to such kind of sensitive and special operations. If I am right, the Phil Marines used their Force Recon Company (FRC) in this particular operation and by its name alone, you could guess that this unit is for reconnaissance (find & locate the exact location of the enemy) and they are not supposed to engage the enemy without determining the approximate strength and location of the enemy. They are supposed to call for their “main force” to deal with the enemy.

I’ve always concurred with ystakei’s position that the problem in Mindanao as well as in other parts of the Philippines is a police matter that requires police action; not military. Military or soldiers are only called in if the national security is in danger or being attacked by outside forces. So, why send thousands of heavily armed troops, tanks, planes, choppers backed up by sophisticated weapons provided by the US against a few hundred Muslim rebels who are our fellow Filipinos?

Before this carnage in Mindanao, I had a simple thinking that this renewed war was just because of the incompetence of Gloria and Asspweron. But when I saw the photos of the US soldiers in the papers, I realized that Dubya needs Mindanao to transfer his war from Iraq to Mindanao with the giggling pint-sized tianak in EK ripening the situation for her boss to take over!
Dubya is getting more unpopular just like Arroyo. The US election is approaching. Soon, Dubya is going to leave office. The 15 dead junior marines were part of a Reconnaissance Class, but they were engaged in a battle. It was said that BG Sabban is a respected one, unlike the other generals, so I guess that Ellen was right when she posed the question “Could it be that, he was just making do with what he has?”.
If this was not the case, then why were the junior marines sent over there in Mindanao at this very critical days, just to “find & locate the exact location of the enemy”? In short, hindi pa pala alam ni Asspweron ang location ng kalaban! Or simply to augment the numbers of soldiers to thousands as panakot sa kaaway?
Hindi talaga uurong sa laban ang mga batang marines, but they were not battle tested yet…ayan, nasayang lang ang buhay ng sana ay magagaling na lider ng sandatahan dahil sa tandem ni Gloria at Asspweron.

Just imagine the amount of investment the government poured into one PMA candidate. The candidate went through the academic and physical hardships. Only a few PMAers opt for the marines, very few, namatay pa ang lima! The training for them is extemely rigid!
Marines are the elite group. In the US, the US Marines look at other units as chickens. In the Philippines, the Marines are killed like chickens. Few PMA graduates opt to enter the Marine corp because there’s no money in it. Most PMAers join the army or PNP. Others who join the Air Force and Navy are due to their interest.

What I said was true; that the Marines (in the US especially) look down on other units like army, air force, navy. They even have names for these other units. Unless one belongs to a Navy Seal, Scout Ranger or any specialized elite group in the unit, then Marines are better trained and disciplines. That’s the way it is in the military. The Marines are in the front line. Their camaraderie is well known. I didn’t mean to offend you but I was just telling you what I know.

goji, this i generalize. some members of any elite units are really boastful thinking that what they learn in their training are what would save them from any combat engagement. they tend to forgetting that it’s ONLY being cautious and alert and at the same time treating people well that count in one’s safety.

I can understand the feeling. Ganyan din ang maraming kakilala kong Moslem sa MIndanao, and why I admire them when they embrace a cause. Call it fanaticism. I call it loyalty, even patriotism.
I’m just having a chance to view the Elensville comments and noticed Rose or Chi asking about possible assistance from vounteers to help with the situation on Mindanao. I can tell you of the fact that Mindanao until about two or three years ago had a total of 54 Lions Clubs but that has been reduced to around 30 Lions Clubs. The members of these clubs are professional and mainly businessmen but despite what this administartionis spinning, business here is suffering therefore to survive they stop supporting charities – I guess the same is for the Rotary Clubs and the others.
I have just returned from guiding a doctor to a family stranded in the mountains needing medical assistance, clothes and rice. Took three days, will take a bath and we are back out at daybreak,

I understand your frustrations and position. Rest assured that many Christians like those in this blog are on your side. It’s not about religion but our common goal to remove this evil leader in Malacanang. Christians and Muslims pray to the same God. All care about the families and future. All are against evil leader. All must work hand in hand to remove Arroyo NOW !

yung “tao” na sinasabi..as in human being, kasi nga karamihan ng inferiority complex kasi di nakapag-aral di marunong magsalita ng tagalog, malalim na tausug lang alam sabihin..kaya pag halimbawa nakakita ng militar takot na sila magtatago na, ngayon napagkakamalan pag kinuha ng militar paaminin abu o kaya eh paaminin siya pumatay kay ganito, kay ganoon…makikita mo marami nakakulong na walang kasalanan nagkataon kasi na di nakapag-aral at di marunong makipagusap..kaya keso ilapit ang sarili lalayo na lang sila..
I understand, Gokusen. Kailangan pala diyan ay palakasin ang edukasyon peron hindi naman lalakas ito kung walang hanapbuhay/opportunities. Bigyan ng pinakamalaking national budget ang Mindanao pero ipa-manage sa mga nagmamahal sa lugar at nang maiwasan ang korapsyon.
Tama at kahanga-hanga ang ginagawa mo, ikalat ang tunay na sitwasyong sosyal at pulitikal sa lugar na iyan ng Mindanao. Mahabang laban pero at least ay nasimulan mo.

Gokusen: I understand their fear of other people..pero sa mga kabataan..is there one from your place who could teach the children to read and write..simply the basics..pero local ang magtuturo. He/she need not have a teaching degree..basta marunong bumasa at sumulat..
You mentioned the “tausogs” these are natives from there, right? You see, while we were taking graduate studies at Ateneo, the only sister of Ignacio Bunye, was my roommate at CWL. I know she went for a couple of weeks in Mindanao to study the “dialect” used in there. As a matter of fact she got us all to send candies, etc. for them. There is a religious order working there at the time..I think the Oblates. She had good words about the people..I just found out last month that she died two years ago. Do keep going on your good work..and for one we can unite in prayers for peace! Take care..

Kundi ang pagtulung-tulungan i-develop at paunlarin ang sulu, basilan at tawi-tawi. Si Uztadz Malik para sa kaalaman ng lahat, siya ang namahala sa “mediation” ng bangsamoro, halos libu-libong kaso sa bangsamoro ang pinagkasundu-sundo niya. At kinikilala siya bilang isang mahusay na tagapamayapa at tagapagkasundo. May sarili siyang opisina sa Jeddah. Nung nasa middle east siya, nagturo siya ng “tagalog” sa mga muslim na mga taga mindanao na dun nagtratrabaho. Malaki ang tiwala at respeto sa kanya ng grupo dahil alam niya kung papano pagkakasunduin ang magkakagalit na partido. Pero pilit na sinisira ng gobyerno na ito ang “tunay na larawan” ng pagkatao niya at sinasabing mnlf lost command or misuari breakaway group.

may nagbabagsak naman ng pagkain na akala namin bomba, pero di sa sibilyan…dun sa mga “abu sayyaf”…pag walang humpay ang military operations. Kung yung isang chopper nagbabasak ng bomba malayo sa abu para wag tamaan, yung isang chopper naman ang binabagsak eh pagkain, at yung isa pang chopper nakabantay…
Korek, Gokusen, ang tamang edukasyon at impormasyon ang makakatulong sa mga kabataan. Kung armado sila ng edukasyon at hindi baril, ang takbo ng Mindanao will be for the better, higit kung mawawala ang mga gaya ni Gloria, Asspweron at Wahab Akbar.
