Kawawang Pilipinas.

Something tells me that this war may get out of hand & could end up being a living hell. History tells us that unless one is gifted w/ a crystal ball, no one but no one can predict the outcome of a war. What makes me doubt the outcome of this war is that the Philippines has a political Commander-In-Chief & an inept Chief-of-Staff ! God only knows where this will lead the country to ! All Gloria knows is how to make “militic” (military politics) decisions.

I, too, ask the same question of Ms. Ellen, “Kailan pa hihinto itong walang kabuluhang kamatayan ng ating mga magigiting na sundalo?”

..& I second the motion when Ms. Ellen says, “Kawawang Pilipinas.”

Kawawa talaga ! Heaven help us.

Message from detained Col. Ariel Querubin yesterday afternoon sent through a family member:

Let us offer prayers for Lt Salvador PMA 05, Lt Loperaz PMA 06, Lt Sumera PMA 06, Lt Solorin PMA 06, Lt Pinera PMA 06.

All young officers of Philippine Marine Corps and several of their men who died this morning during an encounter in Basilan. May they all rest in peace.

    God bless our country!

Noong unang ilabas ni Esperon ang pahayag na 130 ang identified sa Tipo-Tipo fiasco ay may warrant of arrest na ipinalabas, I remember I posted: Ipapuputol ko ang ulo ni Esperon kung kahit isa may mabigyan ng search warrant… I maybe joking out of consternation due to the death of 14 marines but this administration has the penchant of announcing big things but will end up nothing. And it is exactly what happened. Meantime, the conflict resulting to deaths of our young officers and enlisted men and just like the story at the Inquirer, “Dreams disappear with soldiers death”.

Gloria, Esperon and Teodoro should do another reading on previous accounts on how similar situation in using force against the Muslims ended up.

  5. goji - August 19, 2007 1:12 am

Conqueror46, I second your view. The US wants Arroyo government to fail in her operations against the enemy. Then, the US can say and ask: “See, you can’t do it without us. Do you need help?”. Arroyo’s government can now be justified to ask for help invoking the US-RP Military Assistance. The result would be a great tragedy not to the US but to our fellow Filipinos in the South.

    goji n Conqueror46,

you’re both right…both shares their own interests..and wag pa silang huminto lalong gragrabe ang situation lalo na ang sinasabi nilang mga abu na namamatay ay mga civilians at di mga abu..baka pag dumating ang matinding situation di na nila kaya ang laki ng damage sa pilipino…

  7. gokusen - August 19, 2007 2:06 am

    TP,

one time i’ve asked a american soldier , sabi ko, ano ba yung terrorismo, at papano makikilala ang terrorista?
sagot nya, if they have powerful arms to terrorize, terorista yun…sabi ko sa kanya, kung yan ang basehan mo h di ang mga kilalang politicians dito terorrista sila, dahil mas marami pa silang mortar at malalaking gamit kaysa sa mga sundalo. at isang tauhan nila ang dalang gamit M14 ang pinakamahina..so get them all coz they are terrorists…di nakakibo yung amerikanong opisyales ..

  8. rose - August 19, 2007 2:16 am

If Gloria allows the US to come in and continue the fight for her..hindi ba invasion na ang mangyari and hindi ba guilty siya for treason? Ano ang sabi niya sa SONA- “the president can be as strong as she wants to be,”
Now is her opportunity or chance to prove that she could be as strong as she wants to be. So why hide under the pantalon of Bush..malaki ang nakikita mo para sa iyo? Hindi ba may kantang..Devil Woman? Ito na nga…

  9. goji - August 19, 2007 2:24 am

Rose, our country has long been invaded economically and militarily. It’s just a matter of admitting the truth. The problem is our people are still on denial stage. It hurts to admit that your country is invaded.

BTW Ano ngayon ang masabi ni Mike Velarde..it is still ok?
Ano ang masasabi ng Catholic Church..it is still ok?

  11. goji - August 19, 2007 2:35 am

My heart bleeds for those young officers, the young PMAers, Rose. They died in a useless, worthless fight. It’s more comforting to know that they died fighting against foreign enemy than with our own fellow Filipinos, our brother Muslims.
This heartless Arroyo government must be stopped before more young officers get killed. In just one instance, four PMAers from the same Batch 2006 perished in that encounter. This is one of the very few instances when we have a huge number of officers killed in one encounter. Something is wrong…

  12. gokusen - August 19, 2007 2:38 am

    tita rose,

Since the administration of the late President Marcos, the government has been trying to bring an end to the Muslim insurgency. It created the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), which was first headed by Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) chairman Nur Misuari, who is now detained and facing rebellion charges.

    - – -

Under Misuari, billions of pesos were appropriated for the provinces covered by ARMM. However, the autonomous region’s leadership has little to show for spending billions in terms of infrastructure and economic development.

The insurgency has worsened. Besides Misuari’s MNLF, the government now has to contend with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, the kidnapping group Abu Sayyaf and other armed groups, including private armies.

De Venecia conceded that his mini-Marshall proposal is not new since he first recommended it 1998, when he unsuccessfully aspired for the presidency. He said he was reviving it for the sake of Mindanao. Jess Diaz

I do not need my crystal ball to predict the outcome of this, or any, war. I can predict more blood shed, more grieving families, and more hypocrites dripping crocodile tears.

Sadam has long been hanged, but the real terrorists still enjoy playing with him. Kasi ay ganyan nga ang alam nila “if they have powerful arms to terrorize, terorista yun…”.

goji: I noticed the economic invasion when I went home in 1997. A friend and I went “country club” hopping. We went to Olongapo country club sa loob ng dating base. I noticed that the golfers were not Filipinos. But their caddies were Filipinos. In the swimming pool I noticed that the kids in the swimming pool were not Filipino kids but their yayas were. On our way home, late at night, I noticed a lot of trucks loaded with lumber or other cargoes with either Korean, chinese, or Japanese written. We went to Orchard
At a family reunion a few days after I made a comment on what I saw. One of my cousins who is in business answered me with.. that is global economy. To which I replied..call it whatever you want to call it..pero sa akin bakit ba tayo magpaunder lagi..bayan natin ito..naging under tayo sa Spain, then the Americans, then Japan..habang buhay ba tayo maging alipin ng mga taga ibang
    lahi?

  23. florry - August 19, 2007 10:49 am

Ellen, do you have any idea if Assperon has any experience in actual combat? As I see it he doesn’t even know how to draw a battle plan to avoid or minimize collateral damage to his men and maximize his offensive capabilities. Through his inept leadership lives of young men are wasted, not from the arms and bullets of foreign invaders and enemies, but ironically from our own countrymen.
The only experience and expertise of ASSperon that I know is his role in the massive cheating last 2004 elections. For him that would be the most important and brilliant performance in his life; it earned him his position as COS. That’s his reward for being a good personal soldier of Gloria, a reward earned not through bravery in the battlefield but in the field of cheating and manipulating election result. That is his only qualification. And now that an actual battle is raging, he is exposed na wala pala siyang ibubuga, taranta na siya, hindi malaman ang gawin at kung anu-anong walang sense ang sinasabi. And like what I have said, he is acting like a moron and mentally retarded spoiled as..ole.

gokusen: At mass this afternoon..I found myself asking God the questions how long must it take for this all to end? How much more do the people in Mindanao have to take or give to end all their miseries. And it brought to mind a question I would like to ask you.. during all this time, that fighting is going on..did the gov’t give any huminatarian help to the people? Under these circumstances..how can the civilians work? if they are farmers how can they farm? if they are fishermen how can they fish? how do they feed themselves?
their lives are disrupted..how can they continue living? and the children..how can they go to school? what is their future going to be? Ano ang ginagawa ni Gloria ngayon other than denying..what is she doing for the people..other than drowning herself with cognac para makatulog siya..and say I have a lapse of judgment..or I have lapses of memory..she better wake up before it is too late and she can no longer get up..

  25. rose - August 19, 2007 11:04 am

  26. gokusen - August 19, 2007 11:08 am

    Tita Rose,

I pray ASAP!

I’m sooo depressed with what you just described.

Gokusen: I understand why the people do not trust the government. But do they or can they trust religious, or any other civic organizations to help them? Maybe other countries would be willing to help or maybe able to help..
**Does anybody in Ellenville have an idea on how Gokusen could bring this problem to the attention of other people
who maybe able to help..like Catholic Charities, Catholic Relief Services, NGO’s, Civic Organizations..Lions Club..Jaycees, Rotary Clubs, Knights of Columbus..these organizations exist in the Philippines..

  35. chi - August 19, 2007 11:37 am

The 15 marines who just perished in the recent encounter w/ ABUS,are the plans of the Stars studed brained to used as a baits to expose the big fishes they after for.Who are these big fish,Imported JI’s,w/millions of greenleaves from Washington, over their heads, since all of these stars studed personnels retirements coming, they need the greensleaves for their moneybags. If you are tacticians, target been known and pinpointed why not blasted it first, then foot troops step in for mopping, not the other way around. So there are purposses of scouting of these young marines from their commands.Hunting or fishing games for the prices over the heads of those JI’s leaders are the ball game of these commanders nearly on their retirements.

Families of these fallen soldiers should be encouraged to bind together and demand full investigation of these killings even with the consent, if not negligence of the leadership in the military conniving with the hoodlums in Mindanao, even with those hometown leaders who are oftentimes patrons of these hoodlums who give them protection in exchange for special favors, etc.

The families of these soldiers should demand for the resignation/termination of the Chief of Staff and other members of the present AFP hierarchy. They should also demand for the impeachment of the criminal who is the cause of all that they have suffered, and their losses.

  45. ystakei - August 19, 2007 4:41 pm

Wow, bobo! That’s what they get, Ellen, from making wrong decisions and policies regarding these hoodlums who are demanding too much, because they (the officials of the Philippines government) themselves are breaking the law themselves as in the case of the present occupant of the palace by the murky river who has usurped, cheated, etc. to get to where she is now. In short, for breaking a lot many laws, including the Constitution of the Philippines, she is per se a criminal!!

So why should the hoodlums in Mindanao agree to be arrested by soldiers, et al ordered by a criminal to them in jail, and may or may not be given the severest punishment in present-day Philippines, a life time servitude in prison?

I bet they are saying, “Sinong magpapakulong sa amin? Si Gloria? Mas masahol pa iyan sa amin!

Golly, natakot ang mga pulis, et al to catch the hoodlums! Sinuli ang mga warrants of arrest, etc.? Tsk, tsk, tsk! Kawawang Pilipinas! Talagang kawawa! Huhuhuhuhuhu! ;-(

  46. ystakei - August 19, 2007 4:53 pm

Sabi ng mga kano, they are not fighting the Abus, MILF and MNLF directly. They are simply providing technical knowhow, nothing else. Let’s give them the benefit of the doubt since we have not heard yet of any American casualty in this apparently AFP self-made civil war and massacres.

The truth is it is easy for the US to form a special brigade composed of Philippine-born or US-born US soldiers of Filipino descent with native Filipino features that would not make them conspicuous, and they can always pretend to be members of the AFP instead of some US battalion from Okinawa or Guam, where there are big US military installations.

But since they have not reported any US casualty yet, I’m willing to give the US the benefit of the doubt as it continues to deny that the presence of the US military personnel in Mindanao is more for practical and technical reasons than to meddle in dirty Philippine politics unless of course their motive and purpose in doing so are far from being altruistic.

Being a soldier was Soloren’s dream

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — He liked to play at military drills when he was a young boy and would tell his parents and relatives he would one day become a soldier.

“He wanted to become a soldier. That was his dream,” Ricarte Domingo said of his relative Ermin Soloren.

In 2006, Soloren finally fulfilled his dream. He ranked 9th in the Philippine Military Academy’s Mandirigma ng Dangal ng Lahi (Mandala) Class.

    Ellen,
Has anybody from your bloggers suggested the declaration of “Martial Law” in Basilan & Sulo (and parts of Mindanao where there are killings & bombings and where the ASG and MILF/MNLF are involved)? The “root cause” of the problem in these areas is the proliferation of loose firearms in the hands of the politicians, MNLF/MILF, ASG and our Muslim brothers. Let the AFP & PNP implement the declaration of Martial Law and let us see what will happen.
I sympathize with these young officers and men of the Philippine Marines and I salute their bravery & courage. But something is wrong with the said operations. These young lieutenants are not well-trained with this kind of operations. Where is the Light Reaction Companies of the Philippine Army which was trained and equipped by US of A
Special Forces? These companies are suited to such kind of sensitive and special operations. If I am right, the Phil Marines used their Force Recon Company (FRC) in this particular operation and by its name alone, you could guess that this unit is for reconnaissance (find & locate the exact location of the enemy) and they are not supposed to engage the enemy without determining the approximate strength and location of the enemy. They are supposed to call for their “main force” to deal with the enemy.
Ellen, something is wrong in the said operations.

    ***

Bitch!

They are supposed to call for their “main force” to deal with the enemy.

The report also said with Force Reconnaissance Class 13. I understand it’s a test mission for those young officers. Just like the group that figured in the Lamitan siege in 2001. In my column for tomorrow, I touched on that.

But I was told Brig. Gen. Sabban is a competent and highly respected officer. Could it be that, he was just making do with what he has?

I have the same gut feel as you: something is wrong.

  56. Ellen - August 19, 2007 9:31 pm

Re proliferation of firearms. My column for tomorrow also touches on Wahab Akbar’s cache.

I don’t think martial law by Gloria Arroyo would solve the problem. But now that you said it, i have heard some whisperings of something to that effect but not limited to Mindanao.

Bu then, those kind of talks are always in the air since time immemorial.

  57. goji - August 19, 2007 10:14 pm

Under the new constitution, the President can declare Martial Law but within three days the Congress has to approve or dismiss it. The rules of Martial Law and emergency step now are different from those of Marcos. Then, Marcos could declare Martial Law anytime he saw fit if national security was at risk. Today, a President is restricted. But know how evil this woman in the Palace is, she could twist the law to her advantage using his well fed legal team. With Gonzalez, Apostol, Ermita and Esperon as among her closest advisers, she could do it. They might be working out a plan for this. But whatever their plan is, it has to have the blessing and approval of Uncle Sam. That’s for sure…

  58. ystakei - August 19, 2007 10:35 pm

It makes me really angry, Ellen, to hear of how these crooks in the government would try to correct the wrong by pretending to be all praise for these soldiers who have lost their lives in a useless war that in fact should have been the responsibility of the police and the local town officials where these hoodlums are natives of or from.

They being of the same religion as those Moslems these marines have been fighting should have been left to the Moslems to control as a matter of fact. But what can you expect from a government headed by a criminal who has been bribing and spoiling the crooks in the Philippine legislative and judicial branches of the government that justice now cannot prevail but denied.

Golly, 150-manned Abus pitted with a supposedly 4,500 strong AFP and we hear of these young officers being killed and butchered! Kagaguhan na iyan!

We have a stronger group of gangsters in Japan as a matter of fact, but I have never heard of soldiers being used to quell and subdue them. Police ang ginagamit, because the Yakuzas in fact are not foreigners and our soldiers are supposed to be used only for self defense against foreign aggression and invasion.

Golly, in the Philippines, you even hear of idiots saying that the US would be asked to meddle in Philippine domestic affairs and fight local hoodlums being tagged as terrorists as defined by the mad man at the White House and the criminal at the palace by the murky river. That should definitely be considered an insult to the capacity of Filipinos to defend the sovereignty of their country, honor and dignity as a people. Nakakakulo ng dugo sa totoo lang!

  59. Tilamsik - August 19, 2007 10:37 pm

Extrajudicial killings and disapearings, we are in a situation worst than martial law!

  60. goji - August 19, 2007 10:45 pm

I’ve always concurred with ystakei’s position that the problem in Mindanao as well as in other parts of the Philippines is a police matter that requires police action; not military. Military or soldiers are only called in if the national security is in danger or being attacked by outside forces. So, why send thousands of heavily armed troops, tanks, planes, choppers backed up by sophisticated weapons provided by the US against a few hundred Muslim rebels who are our fellow Filipinos?

  61. chi - August 19, 2007 11:04 pm

    Martial Law in Mindanao?!

No need. Just make sure of the best intel officers available to point out who and where exactly are the real enemy; Gloria and Asspweron be true to their callings (kahit peke sila); wala ng kadramahan at “big business”; sipain ang mga sob’s local politicians; pakawalan at ibalik sa laban sa Mindanao sina Medal of Valor Awardees Cols. Querubin, Parcon and and soldiers who know how to command a good fight, and our courageous marines will do the rest!

    Wow! I’m dreaming lang pala!

  62. chi - August 19, 2007 11:11 pm

    Gokusen,

A cousin will come over for a short visit in the second week of September. He’ll contact you when he returns home. Cheers kahit na malungkot tayo to keep our sanity.

  63. goji - August 19, 2007 11:26 pm

Chi, why is his name Gokusen? It sounds weird isn’t it? Anyway, how can your cousin recognize and meet him? If your cousin is a lady, it doesn’t look good for a woman meeting a guy like Gokusen for the first time. Can I act as bodyguard?

  64. ystakei - August 19, 2007 11:33 pm

That’s actually the fault of the system of patronizing crooks in the government, local and national. We’re supposed to be living in modern times but over in the old country, apparently, modernization has not reached the hinterlands because of landgrabbers turned warlords who are lording over the very same people who have helped them where they are now.

Now, they are killing soldiers being apparently deliberately sent there to be butchered (for their kidneys and other organs to be sold overseas?), and the idiot now daring to proclaim “Martial Law” because of it that everyone knows is more the end that the means to make her reign go beyond 2010! Nice try!

Banned in fact ang Al Qaeda sa Iraq when Saddam was in power. Saddam and Al Qaeda were in fact creations of America na pinaglaban sa isa’t isa.

Fighting for their sovereignty and resisting foreign invasion is different from terrorism.

  66. chi - August 19, 2007 11:46 pm

    Gokusen,

What’s your opinion here? From Ninez column at http://www.tribune.net
    ***

“Surely, the AFP is aware of the fact that this unification of Muslim rebel forces for such battles stems from the Muslim practice known as the “Pintakasi” which is an order for all armed Muslim groups to come together and fight the common enemy, putting aside their differences for a short period of time, for the Muslims to achieve the higher “goal” of achieving victory over the enemy forces, in this case, the government forces.

This order of a Pintakasi is usually given by an Imam, or a religious figure, or a member of Muslim royalty, and all Muslims, including the politicians, in that area of conflict, set aside all political differences and fight as one.

Is it any wonder that the government troops are being slaughtered every time?”

  67. goji - August 19, 2007 11:47 pm

Correct again. Saddam and Al Qaeda are CIA’s creation and so are the Abus. Diego shared the same opinion. The term “terrorism” is the most abused word today. Who started it but Bush and his war freak gang. In the past, we were threatened by the term “Communism”. The West branded her enemies as Communists. Today, it has changed from Communist to Terrorist which is nothing but to justify one’s meddling of another country’s affairs. Gloria Arroyo copied all the above from her mentor Bush. How I wish to see them hanged together one day…

  68. chi - August 19, 2007 11:57 pm

    Yuko,

Yeah, tuliro si Dubya ngayon because very apparent that he’s not winning in Iraq. He was foolisn enough to think that Iraquis will let their country be torn apart by the US.

Before this carnage in Mindanao, I had a simple thinking that this renewed war was just because of the incompetence of Gloria and Asspweron. But when I saw the photos of the US soldiers in the papers, I realized that Dubya needs Mindanao to transfer his war from Iraq to Mindanao with the giggling pint-sized tianak in EK ripening the situation for her boss to take over!

  69. goji - August 20, 2007 12:17 am

Dubya is getting more unpopular just like Arroyo. The US election is approaching. Soon, Dubya is going to leave office. By switching the problem to Mindanao, the Philippines; the next US President would have his hands full solving the problem shifting the world attention from Iraq to the Philippines. This scenario is very possible and scary.

  70. chi - August 20, 2007 2:51 am

The 15 dead junior marines were part of a Reconnaissance Class, but they were engaged in a battle. It was said that BG Sabban is a respected one, unlike the other generals, so I guess that Ellen was right when she posed the question “Could it be that, he was just making do with what he has?”.

If this was not the case, then why were the junior marines sent over there in Mindanao at this very critical days, just to “find & locate the exact location of the enemy”? Or simply to augment the numbers of soldiers to thousands as panakot sa kaaway?

Hindi talaga uurong sa laban ang mga batang marines, but they were not battle tested yet…ayan, nasayang lang ang buhay ng sana ay magagaling na lider ng sandatahan dahil sa tandem ni Gloria at Asspweron.

What a waste of what could have been a fruitful life!

  71. goji - August 20, 2007 2:58 am

Just imagine the amount of investment the government poured into one PMA candidate. The candidate went through the academic and physical hardships. Five of the six killed were fresh graduates of 2006. Waste of talent…waste of life. As I said, it would be more comforting if they died in defense of the country against foreign invaders. But they died in the hands to fellow Filipinos they are supposed to protect. All because of this evil Arroyo government!

  72. parasabayan - August 20, 2007 6:42 am

Only a few PMAers opt for the marines, very few, namatay pa ang lima! The training for them is extemely rigid!

  73. goji - August 20, 2007 6:49 am

Marines are the elite group. In the US, the US Marines look at other units as chickens. In the Philippines, the Marines are killed like chickens. Few PMA graduates opt to enter the Marine corp because there’s no money in it. Most PMAers join the army or PNP. Others who join the Air Force and Navy are due to their interest.

Anyway, those kidnap-ransom thing in the past, many made lots of money from it. Every time a hostage was released, they claimed no ransom was paid because the government has a no-ransom policy with rebels and terrorists. Who would believe them?

  84. gokusen - August 20, 2007 8:51 am

i know how to pull the trigger coz i’m used to it..but i’m one of those who doesn’t have personal gun..kasi ayoko, at ako rin ang nagsasabi di sa baril dapat mabuhay ang mga muslim kundi sa development at edukasyon sa kabataan…kaya sorry kahit marunong ako against ako dun…pero nakakita ka na ba ng bumabaril na dulo lang ng upos ang tinatarget gamit ang m14…yun na lang isipin mo…(hehehe!)

  85. goji - August 20, 2007 9:02 am

How can I see you in person? Do you want me to wear the military uniform when I go to see you? How true was the saying that when FPJ got beaten or killed in the movie, Muslims shot the movie screen in anger? If that’s true, then there was no way FPJ could have lost in Mindanao.

naku sinabi mo pa…fpj is the most favorite action star dun..kawawa nga kung kalaban ni fpj sa movie kulang na lang eh personalin na barilin ng mg muslim…

goji says: “Marines are the elite group. In the US, the US Marines look at other units as chickens. In the Philippines, the Marines are killed like chickens. Few PMA graduates opt to enter the Marine corp because there’s no money in it. Most PMAers join the army or PNP. Others who join the Air Force and Navy are due to their interest.”

goji, walang ganyanan. kung ano ang training ng marines ay ganu’n din sa army. both are trained to fight the enemy of the state. they are bound by a common code – serve and defend the country and its constitution.

elite units of the armed forces are those trained in specialized tactics, not any command as a whole.

In a report in Monday’s issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, parent company of INQUIRER.net, Ungkaya Pukan Mayor Joel Maturan, who witnessed the Saturday morning encounter, observed that the fatalities, who were reportedly on a “test mission,” were like “sitting ducks.”

“What happened was they followed an easier route on low ground,” Maturan was quoted as saying in the report.

“The Abu Sayyaf position was about 20 meters high from them … kaya parang ibon silang ginawang practice shooting ng mga bandido [so they were like sitting ducks that became shooting practice targets of the bandits],” Maturan said.

“If they had followed their guide, they would have surprised the enemy, who had their backs turned to them,” he added.

But Sabban said: “It was not a test mission…They were not new to the area.”
    - – - -

But Sabban said: “It was not a test mission…They were not new to the area.”

  93. Mrivera - August 20, 2007 5:15 pm

they took the low ground? in enemy’s area?

it only means those sent to this operation were not trained in combat but on relief operations making them take a more convenient route to their objective areas.

not a test mission? not new in the area?

  95. AK-47 - August 20, 2007 6:02 pm

i suspect wahab akbar requested assperon to send a troops unfamiliar in the area, so they can be easily slaughtered by the enemies. that includes these poor young PMAers.

  96. AK-47 - August 20, 2007 6:12 pm

it should have been better if these young PMAers did not carry any fire arms with them, instead foods for the enemies,(baka naawa pa sila).

general esperon, you made me laugh! do you understand what you are saying? or did you try to review your statement before giving it to the public?

if you are determined to bring “peace” in the south, you must first “disarm” your representative “wahab akbar” as this is the essential pre-requisites of your “promise”, because “akbar” is the “arms ruler” in the south. now go back to what you said, and try to analyze your statement idiot general !

  106. chi - August 20, 2007 8:19 pm

    Mrivera,

If these junior marines were not new in the area, they would have known the movement of the enemy. I agree with you that they “were not trained in combat but on relief operations making them take a more convenient route to their objective areas.”

  115. goji - August 20, 2007 9:00 pm

Mrivera, you got me all wrong my friend. You misinterpreted my statement. I know you were a former soldier but not a Marine. What I said was true; that the Marines (in the US especially) look down on other units like army, air force, navy. They even have names for these other units. Unless one belongs to a Navy Seal, Scout Ranger or any specialized elite group in the unit, then Marines are better trained and disciplines. That’s the way it is in the military. The Marines are in the front line. Their camaraderie is well known. I didn’t mean to offend you but I was just telling you what I know.

  116. Mrivera - August 20, 2007 9:51 pm

    goji,

In a way, you’re correct. Patches and emblems are nothing. It’s out there in the battle field where a soldier is tested by his ability. Many of our ordinary soldiers are better than those elite groups. Man for man, Filipinos soldiers are better. But you see my friend, we’re talking about the indifferent attitude some elite groups like Marines treat the other units. It doesn’t mean we all agree and like their attitude. But it’s a fact…look at a Marine how he acts and behaves. In the US, many are arrogant.

    AK47,

“But it’s a fact…look at a Marine how he acts and behaves. In the US, many are arrogant.”

goji, this i generalize. some members of any elite units are really boastful thinking that what they learn in their training are what would save them from any combat engagement. they tend to forgetting that it’s ONLY being cautious and alert and at the same time treating people well that count in one’s safety.

even those battle tested soldiers have the tendency of acting like they are already invncible that they boast each and every encounter they had during their heyday in combat.

a few sometimes forget, each one has his own time on earth. nobody is immortal.

    tongue,

I can understand the feeling. Ganyan din ang maraming kakilala kong Moslem sa MIndanao, and why I admire them when they embrace a cause. Call it fanaticism. I call it loyalty, even patriotism.

I’m just having a chance to view the Elensville comments and noticed Rose or Chi asking about possible assistance from vounteers to help with the situation on Mindanao. I can tell you of the fact that Mindanao until about two or three years ago had a total of 54 Lions Clubs but that has been reduced to around 30 Lions Clubs. The members of these clubs are professional and mainly businessmen but despite what this administartionis spinning, business here is suffering therefore to survive they stop supporting charities – I guess the same is for the Rotary Clubs and the others.
I have just returned from guiding a doctor to a family stranded in the mountains needing medical assistance, clothes and rice. Took three days, will take a bath and we are back out at daybreak,
Most people are saying its better for Trillanes to get his eleven million plus selectorate supporters to stand outside the Palace Gates with bottles of water and snacks and all of them stand there until this evil woman stands down.
Revolution is in the wind! Enough is Enough.

I think you already posted the above in another thread. I don’t think Ellen would encourage multiple postings. Please read my response to that other thread you posted. I understand your frustrations and position. Rest assured that many Christians like those in this blog are on your side. It’s not about religion but our common goal to remove this evil leader in Malacanang. Christians and Muslims pray to the same God. All care about the families and future. All are against evil leader. All must work hand in hand to remove Arroyo NOW !

    Gokusen,

    Sinong “tao” ang kinatatakutan?

    WWNL,

I fully agree. And thanks for the reply. We need more of you, ingat.

  150. gokusen - August 22, 2007 2:56 am

    Chi,

I understand, Gokusen.

wwnl: this may seem a wild, wild idea but instead of dropping bombs, etc. would it be better to drop food supplies? The American soldiers did this in Irag..
Gokusen: I understand their fear of other people..pero sa mga kabataan..is there one from your place who could teach the children to read and write..simply the basics..pero local ang magtuturo. He/she need not have a teaching degree..basta marunong bumasa at sumulat..
You mentioned the “tausogs” these are natives from there, right? You see, while we were taking graduate studies at Ateneo, the only sister of Ignacio Bunye, was my roommate at CWL. I know she went for a couple of weeks in Mindanao to study the “dialect” used in there. As a matter of fact she got us all to send candies, etc. for them. There is a religious order working there at the time..I think the Oblates. She had good words about the people..I just found out last month that she died two years ago. Do keep going on your good work..and for one we can unite in prayers for peace! Take care..

    Tita Rose, Chi;
