Utak barbed-wire

Most of those who took part in that 1986 Revolt were rewarded with government positions. Those OIC (Officers-in-Charge) then became active permanent politicians until this day.

Remember the Kamag-anak Inc. headed by her brother Peping? Remember Congressman De Guzman who became a fall guy in that gun smuggling? Do we call that democracy? Or it was a democracy just in paper o sa salita lang. Who is honest enough to say that we were able to attain the true democracy when Cory took over? Democracy is enjoyed by the elite, the rich. The poor doesn’t know what democracy is. What they care about are the basic necessities they need which no administration is able to provide.

  5. In Myanmar: 1,000 monks now being held
Troops cut off jeweled head of ancient Buddha

Sporadic demonstrations were held throughout Rangoon today, but riot police and troops appeared to be under orders to hold their fire, probably because of the presence in the city of UN special envoy Ibrahim Gambari, writes Edward Loxton.

One of the city’s leading monasteries, Ngwe Kyar Yar, was raided by security officers during the early hours this morning, and about 200 monks were dragged from their beds and loaded into army trucks.

Most of those 1,000 monks will never see light again, just what happened in Tibet.

    Pechanco,

Cory was just a front of the Kamaganak Inc. and the group of Ramos.

since I posted this yesterday ahead of some
others, let me re cycle to rekindle anger
    against murder:

    jay cynikho Says:

    September 29th, 2007 at 2:12 am

On Myanmar merciless street murders: “The world is watching the people of Burma take to the streets to demand their freedom, and the American people stand in solidarity with these brave individuals,” Pres. Bush said in a statement.

“brave individuals” As a Filipino, I cringed in shame.

I am no admirer of Pres George Bush but as a leader he will do everything, suffer all criticisms and insults if only to maintain the US as the world’s economic and political empire. Because of Bush’s policies US citizens had to accept unparalleled hatred and wasted young lives in Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia and elsewhere. But Pres Bush speaks and acts for democracy, which you can not say the same for other world leaders from France, Canada, Japan, China, India, etc.

In the case of Myanmar today only George W. Bush should have the guts (he is not the first because of Grenada) to order US troops to land in Myanmar, give the brave Burmese people the push to finish the job. Australian troops somewhat did that in East Timor. Two decades of oppression, poverty and hatred might even incite the Myanmar soldiers whose poor families were also victims to turn their guns on their superior officers and generals and politicians. Let the Burmese people show the ASEAN wimps and punks that they are also humans, not economic
ingredients for ASEAN bull shit of barter, trading and business exchange.

US marines should provide the spark and firepower so that the Burmese people with the help of their Buddhist monks will for the first time ever in history give Burma a taste of democracy. Burma is not Iraq where the four freedoms is not so desired or valued. If in Iraq oil is the sole reason for spilling a tanker of Marines’ blood, let President Bush prove to the world that in Burma democracy is reason enough to shed a few gallons of US soldiers blood.

  10. chi chi

  11. pechanco pechanco

Luzviminda, that was my response to this statement:

No, our democracy was never restored not even after the Marcos regime.

After GMA? Do you think we would attain the true democracy that we all dream of even after this GMA is ousted? Well, half of the dream would have been realized if she’s gone. But as long as we’re dependent on the West; as long as we do not stand on our own and not allow foreign power to manipulate and meddle in our affairs, never. Even right here in our country, we continue to allow the church, the influential groups, the lobbyists to dictate on us what to do.

  12. Elvira Sahara Elvira Sahara

A congenital LIAR is a congenital LIAR is a….! Shame on you Unano!!! And with regards to the priests helping Gloria, bistado na…wala ngang mga Bayag, di ba?

Wala man lang kaunting imik.

  14. we-will-never-learn we-will-never-learn

But look at the barbed wire and container vans protecting the Malacanang it is the mentality of our Generals who are running scared, afraid that their accumulated misdemeanours will catch up with them – and they will, sooner than they think. If we believe in true democracy then for sure its just a matter of time when it forces the release of our ‘True’ honorable AFP leaders to be released from custody. Assperon and his fellow corrupt dishonorable officers surrounding him fear this the most – they will be defeated! no amount of barbed wire will stop the defeat.

  15. luzviminda luzviminda

    Pechanco,

It remains to be seen what is Noynoy made of!

  16. chi chi

I’m so glad that both Luz and Chi share my view about Cory. Kung may Corysta dito, you may speak up? Luz, you hit the bull’s eye when you said nag-ingay lang si Cory noon para makisakay sa kandidatura ng opposition ang anak niyang si Noynoy. Oo nga ano. Now that Noynoy has been elected, what is he doing? Tahimik. Don’t be surprised if Cory and Gloria has struck a new deal. After all, cabalen naman sila.

It’s a shame for our midget president to mingle with Myanmar problem while she herself could not know and ignoring her own country’s problem. Democracy on her vocabulary revised the meaning. She ruled the country by her own selfish drafted constitution. She ignored the idea of constitutionalism is the key to comprehending an advanced conceptualization of democracy. Constitution means limited government and the rule of law to prevent the arbitrary use of power, to protect human rights, to regulate democratic procedures in elections not the counting of oblivion souls and public policymaking, and to achieve a community’s shared purposes.

Our most corrupt president at present trying to achieve in Myanmar something that is very difficult to achieve: Their democracy and stability. She choose one conflict in Myanmar and then task will become much more easy for her. Forget democracy! achieve stability first. Then work to improve economy. And only after that start to worry about other country’s problem. She knows deep in her heart that she could not achieve stability without democracy in her country. In Gloria’s democracy it works this way. She will take full power and puts in charge his relatives and friends: ones who will benefit most. Those people will hire their relatives and friends – to make them nepotism officers in her corrupt government,

Democracy under Gloria’s regime , In reality, nothing. What we have is a polluted democracy, a deluded democracy, a deceitful democracy, an artificial democracy which in reality amounts to no democracy but only to a democratic appearance. It fools the public while supporting the interest of the economic elite of her chosen neocons.

  19. Who says that there is democracy in the Philippines? Filipinos think they have democracy because they have not seen one until perhaps they have gone to a country that is practicing the basic principles of what democracy is, a government FOR, OF and BY the people, especially this last part that says that all LAW-ABIDING citizens of the land has the right to claim that the government is not without him or her, and that those who want to serve in the government can never be above those who pay for their keep, even when they themselves are supposed to pay their taxes!!!

I have seen enough to say that the Philippines is nothing but a farce. No thanks to Uncle Sam which left the Philippines under the leadership and hands of crooks!!!

I prefer the idea of a revolution sans any foreign government meddling in Philippine affairs.

As for the unano’s meddling in Burmese affair, mahiya siya!

Aung San Suu Kyi is no GLORC, no doubt. She is what she is—her patriotic’s father’s daughter. Gloria is more like her grandfather’s granddaughter, and yes, Dadong Macapagal’s daughter, too. It was her father, in fact, who caused the Philippines what my late professor in history at UP used to tell us, “Macapagal is the cause of all the woes of this (meaning our generation) and future generations of Filipinos. Don’t even forget that he has incurred debts the Philippines will never be able to pay, not this nor any future generation of Filipinos.” The daughter apparently, has added more!

  20. Marcos, at least, was elected by the people even once in 1966. The creep now ruling the Philippines has never been voted by the people as president. Who knows, baka pati victory niya sa Senate and VP, nakaw din! Sabi nga, once a thief, always a thief. Heaven forbid!

  21. I refuse to call Burma “Myanmar” as my friends in the Burmese movement have told me they still would prefer their country not be called as such. I respect their opinion.

  22. luzviminda luzviminda

Sabi ni Lingayen Archbishop Oscar V. Cruz:

“And as expected, it is the general public that pays anything and everything Malacañang not only does but does badly. Even the poorest of the poor pay indirect taxes in exactly the same amount as the richest of the rich do. That is why the moment a baby is born, it already pays indirect taxes in the electricity he or she needs, the cotton and alcohol used. This is not to mention the standing fact that every unborn baby has already incurred a multimillion-peso debt — and increasing.

The government has no money? No problem! Make people pay. Raise taxes. Milk them to death. This government cannot pay? No big deal! Make the next government through next generations pay. Oh Filipino! Where do you go? What do you do? Up to when will you endure? How much are you willing to bear?”

    To Archbishop Cruz,
It is the battle of the GOOD versus EVIL!

  23. pechanco pechanco

I’m confused with the exact name of the country, Burma or Myanmar. For the West and the enemies, they stick to the old name Burma after independence from the British. But the military regime changed it to Myanmar. If you ask me, I prefer Mumar because it reminds me of the the past basketball player Larry Mumar. Sorry for my cornyness (is there such a word?).

GMA and Esperon know that the power they hold is stolen. Any restlessness in the citizenry shall never be tolerated because the truth will set them free.
During Marcos’ time, just before the fall, he also grew increasingly paranoid, and barbed wire was practically a permanent fixture around Malacañang.

  25. luzviminda luzviminda

  26. This woman knows no other language but the language of profanity…

  27. What she tried to tell the people in the UN is that there’s no extrajudicial killings in the Philippines, no illegal detention, no child labour, no prostitution of minors, no hunger, no floating kids around Manila Bay scavenging for food… that everything is nice and easy in the Philippines, that the whole world is wrong and that she is right!

My gosh, I know this woman lies but lying as brazenly as she does in front of all those delegates? One has to be really, trully gone barking mad to even pronounce such words.

Sabi nga ni Yuko, hindi na kinilabutan!

“You are telling us to free Aung San Suu Kyi, e ikaw itong ayaw palabasin sa kulungan ang isang militar na ibinoto na 11 million voters? Gaga! Huwag mo kaming pakialaman, luka luka!”

Democracy is not given to citizens by the government, it is taken by the citizens from the government. Democracy means all power to the people – above all other issues. It means that society is run by it’s citizens, rather than the rich [aristocracy] an individual [despotism] a royal family [monarchy], or a clergy [theocracy].

When a government ceases to attend to the needs of its general population, such a government has failed and must be overthrown. Otherwise, there is no reason pretending and canvassing for electioneering activities that would be rigged with impunity while Abalos, Garci, Bedol are around. As long as this mischaracterized administration is concerned the citizenry means nothing. It is therefore imperative to be aware of corrupt political establishments of today and place them on the speed radar. These corrupt politicians if not taken down today than later will not allow any political light for stability, political purity and authenticity in the near future. We must reject avarice and money-bags and other self-serving characters now. We must entrench moral character for a society without moral character and moral authority is doomed. Restoration of morality, integrity and dignity are the hallmarks of stability, continuity and sustainable development—at the local, regional level. A family with moral authority works together and stays together for a stable and strong community and or institution.

What I am observing; Pinoy society is waiting-around for institutional political self-change, waiting for heavens to do it for them is indeed a coward and disturbed society. If someone is waiting for foreign interventionists to form political alliances for country’s existence and survival, free of corruption and instability, they will indeed wait for along time. It is the responsibility of the citizenry to fight for their freedom for that’s how other country’s societies were built. Jay Cynikho have posted on other tread about his whistle bomb, the canyon kawayan de calburo and it made sense to me, send them to the gallows to pay for their treacheries and irredeemable, untrustworthiness and institutional shame. They have no contribution to our countrymen except opportunistic machinations zeroed in corruption.

Nag barilin kami, that was when we realized that we were not bullet proof. ha ha ha What an experience it was.. That experience changed me forever, few months after I left the country.

  44. That Marcos clearly held the entire Philippines captive during his tenure as president, is an understatement.

Cory came to power promptly declaring a revolutionary government and thence calling for the ratification of a new Constitution. The emergence of Kamag-anak, Inc., may be generally attributed to Cory for having allowed it in the first place. We, the governed, are also partly to blame for having failed to subject her administration to reasonable scrutiny.

FVR coming on the heels of Cory’s endorsement ruled next. Though far from being clean, we, again, failed to scrutinize shady moves by his administration.

We had Erap, whose misdeeds were blatant enough to wake people up. And, wake up, we did, as we demanded accountability from him regarding his perceived hand in corruption.

Now, we have Aling Gloria, whose misdeeds are far more blatant, far more scandalous (in terms of the amount involved and the brazenness by which they are conducted) than those of all his predecessors combined. It would be a mistake if we lose our focus and allow ourselves to wallow in past mistakes while this administration continues to ravage the nation with a sense of impunity unheard of in civilized societies.

At least di wallet ng Government and dinukutan ni Erap kung nandukot man. At least may principle yung tao, di nagbenta ng tao. Ang mali lang ni ?Erap, he trusted to much the F#$*ng double faced Elites he sorrounded himself.

You know why I hate more these days those “we” who trampled the Constitution?

Miranda and other honorable men na napapaligiran ng barbed-wires!

  53. Talaga, Chi. And if you trace further, the root of all these is Gloria Arroyo’s ambition to be president, by hook or by crook. It turned out all crooks.

  56. ellen, kami dito sa san francisco, ca ay hangang-hanga to your being a fearless journalist, walang pinipili.

  57. chi chi

    Ellen,

Yes, Ellen. Wala ng mapiling hindi “crook” ngayon. Who can tell us even a single name in Gloria’s fake admin who was/is not crook?

Totie, not because of in defense of the Marines during Marcos time, your experience and the incident was an isolated case. People were shot and killed by the Marines during Martial Law and the period of unrest toward the day of Marcos ouster, but you don’t know how worse it is today. It’s not even Martial Law. Since you left the country, have you experienced and witnessed the bruatlity of this GMA regime? You have seen on TV how Marcos rejected Gen. Ver’s plea to attack the crowd.

Tilamsik, to the US it’s selective democracy. They only want the kind of democracy that suits their interest. It’s the US that defines what democracy is. If the government or leader is their friend, they brand the opposition forces as rebels and threat to democracy. If the leader or government is their enemy, they call the opposition as heroes and advocates of democracy. That has been America’s policy since the beginning. Depende kung kaibigan ka o hindi.

  59. Totie Totie

Pechanco: In reality my experience which was the same experience by a alot of my then colleagues, marks the trashing and intimidation of media people. I also know that story where Marcos refused to heed General Ver’s plea.

I followed the events from Tabako all the way to Gloria, and I feel the pain that a lot feels. Pechanco, I remained a Pinoy Citizen all these years and never ever raised my hand denouncing my citizenship. In those over 20 years there countless number of times where I campaigned to a lot investors to do business in the Phils, only to come back to me and tell in my face they cant for they cant deal the exessive corruptiuon.

  60. Totie Totie

Pechanco: Remember the eaarly years of Martial Law, first 10 years, how peaceful and robust our economy then. Sometimes a lot of us hates to admit it, but it seems it was better during the early Marcos time (10-14 yrs) than the combined hell the Philippines experience from Cory to Pidal.

It stood the test of time.

  61. Totie,

Because Marcos was a brilliant lawyer. No comparisson there – Gloria is not even good at what she pretends to be, that of an economist.

  62. Ellen,

Suggestion: would be good to regularly re-publish Mike Arroyo’s boast that was published (of his interview with Graphic magazine I think) of how he and Gloria planned the downfall of Estrada for a year.

  63. pechanco pechanco

Totie, where are you based now? Marcos did good during the first 10 years of Martial Law. Not that long because Marcos succumbed to temptation after only five years. I should say the first three years was the best. There was curfew so crime was at its lowest record. But human as Marcos was who succumbed to temptation not only with women but friends, trouble began especially with his wife’s Imelda lording all over the country. Nagsamantala ang mga Romualdez. Nagsamantala ang mga kumpare at kaibigan ni Marcos…Tan, Cojuangco, Benedicto, Ablan, Farinas and of course the Singsons. After that famous Dovie Beans scandal broke up, naging maamo parang tupa si Marcos kay Imelda. That was the beginning of the fall of the Marcos Empire. Yet, he has built schools, bridges and other infastractures that benefited the people. Kahit na ang Bataan Power Plant ay maganda ang layunin ni Marcos having a vision that one day RP would experience energy problem like the rest of the world. To Cory, anything identified with Marcos even if they were good must go.

  64. Chi,

“We” included me, a Filipino who, while away from the Philippines then, demanded that public officials be held accountable for their misdeeds- and, like it or not, Erap had lots of them. “We” refers to Pinoys (as to whether they constitute the majority then, that’s debatable, to say the least) who wanted to see Erap resign. However, I qualify that “we” did not include Mike Arroyo and his evil design. “We” found out only much later how “we” were used.

Though, I am also unconvinced that plunder was proved “beyond reasonable doubt” in Erap’s case, he still has sins (beyond merely ABS) to atone for.

Then, the issue was Erap, Aling Gloria was a mere by-product. To bring Erap back as an issue now, even to raise the spectre of a de Castro presidency as an eventual by-product, would only deflect attention away from Aling Gloria.

Aling Gloria is the biggest issue now. “We” won’t mind if Aling Gloria gets taken down even extra-constitutionally.

  65. Thanks, Damag46
