PNP seeks transfer of Trillanes to Munti

The PNP will ask the Makati regional trial court
to allow the transfer of Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV from Camp Crame to the New Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa to ensure his safety, an official said yesterday.

Interior Undersecretary Marius Corpus said Trillanes should be joined in Muntinlupa by Brig, Gen. Danilo Lim and 34 others charged with rebellion for their participation in last week’s Manila Peninsula siege.

“We have studied the matter carefully and weighed the factors regarding the safety and security of the accused and decided that the best way to secure them while they are awaiting trial is to house them in Muntinlupa,” Corpus said.

Both Trillanes and Lim are separately being tried on earlier rebellion charges – the former for leading the Oakwood occupation in 2003 and the latter for the February 2006 attempt to withdraw support from President Arroyo. Lim is detained in an Army camp in Tanay, Rizal, along with other officers linked to the alleged plot.

Former Vice President Teofisto Guingona and former UP president Francisco Nemenzo were among the prominent civilians also charged with rebellion and inciting to rebellion before the Department of Justice Friday night.

Originally, 50 people were arrested inside the Manila Pen, but 14 were released for lack of evidence.

The Makati court handling the case of Trillanes and 30 other junior officers belonging to the Magdalo group is mulling the holding of the next hearing at Camp Crame.

A staff of Makati regional trial court branch 148 Judge Oscar Pimentel who requested anonymity because he is not authorized to talk on the matter said security is the primary consideration in seeking to transfer hearings to Camp Crame.

“We do not want a repeat of last Thursday’s incident that’s why we are looking at other possible venues for the next hearing,” the court staff said.

Corpus said decision to seek the transfer of Trillanes and others to the NBP was reached after a command conference in Camp Crame.

“Our first consideration was to really transfer them in Muntinlupa, the second was to detain them at the Metro Manila District Jail in Bicutan, and third was at the Makati City Jail,” Corpus said.

“But it is not wise to place them at the Metro Manila District Jail in Bicutan and the Makati City Jail since both facilities are overcrowded,” Corpus said.

Corpus said the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame is a temporary detention facility for a person awaiting an order of detention from the court.

He said the accused will be placed in the same compound but not necessarily in one cell.

PNP chief Avelino I. Razon Jr. said transactions in Camp Crame will be hampered if Trillanes and others are tried there.

State Prosecutor Emmanuel Velasco said the DOJ supports the plan of the PNP to transfer Trillanes and others to Muntinlupa.

“Trial should be held in a more secure place,” Velasco said.

Col. Pedro Hererra-Davila of the Armed Forces Judge Advocate General’s Office said they also support the transfer plan.

LEFTISTS?

Razon said investigators are looking into the possible role of the communist movement after two persons arrested in the standoff were found to have strong ties with the Left.

Although Razon did not identify the two persons, a Camp Crame official said they were Myrna Buendia and Leodor dela Cruz.

Buendia reportedly was the common-law wife of Communist Party of the Philippines founding chairman Jose Ma. Sison with whom she has a child, while Dela Cruz is a son of Nilo dela Cruz, the founder of the Alex Boncayao Brigade.

Virgilio Pablico, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group legal officer, said subpoenas covering television footage have been sent to television networks ABS-CBN, GMA-7, ABC-5, and RPN-9.

Razon said investigators have yet to establish a link in the between Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay and Trillanes.

“Wala pang politicians, wala pa rin si Mayor Binay sa aming investigation. What we have on Mayor Binay are only circumstantial evidence,” Razon said.

At a Senate budget hearing, Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez said he has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation to check the possible link of Binay to the siege.

Binay’s security escort, former Army Cpl. Elmer Colon, was seen escorting the Trillanes group on their march to the hotel.

Binay said Colon has been on leave.

“Well, I don’t know (about Binay’s denial) but I think he was quoted as saying that he has ordered the investigation because that person, He was quoted as saying, that that person has been on leave and has not reported and said that if that person asked his permission, he would have told him not to go to Manila Pen,” Gonzalez said. – Raymond Africa and Ashzel Hachero

PNP is making Sen. Trillanes, Gen. Lim and Magdalos the flavor of the year.

It’s really funny how our justice system works back home. Erap was convicted of plunder but have never ever set foot on a real jail before being pardoned while Trillanes and company who demanded a president with questionable legitimacy to step down, and yet they are now about to be confined with philippines most hardened criminals. While many don’t agree with their methods, they are still suspects at this point and it isn’t right to incarcerate them with the convicted felons.

I’m sure Gloria would be willing to pay more than 1 million pesos each for the the mutineers’disposal. Of course, I might be wrong… But, I’m just trying to think like a crminal here… thinking like Gloria.

Ellen, let me share with my friends this portion of Ka Mentong’s column (Tribune).

There are many analyses of the events of Nov. 29, 2007 but they are not the whole story, in the coming days we will tell our family’s story. For the oppressed of our nation, we also now have Lim and Trillanes as the new spokesmen, replacing trapos and other strangers to the people’s plight and the real serious struggle for justice. I am glad our colleague Alejandro “Ding” Lichauco agrees that the incident projected the two true brave leaders of these times of crisis for the Filipino people. Many words of mainstream media still reflect misconceptions about the Manila Pen incident, but it is only a matter of time that all those are clarified. What shines through is the daring and imagination by the “leaders” of the maneuver at the Makati RTC courtroom, the peaceful manner by which all of it was done, the international exposure attained to air the crisis conditions in the Philippines. Maybe not all elements fell into place, but what is important is that they are here and preparing for another day.

I share everybody’s pains and anger! The very worst for Trillanes, Lim and the group have yet to come…. Let’s be vigilant!

Learning from the mistakes and shortcomings of all her predecessors, GMA has mastered the perfect art on how to game the system and how to neutralize the players.

Each and every potential loophole had been carefully studied and summarily plugged! The ends, however messy, justify the means!

I have no qualms she is working and looking beyond 2010 already with a new breed of JDVs, FVRs and ECs. She has in place different options to deal with different scenarios as it unravels.

HOPE is all we have. I remain hopeful there is a boy or girl scout in her inner circle, who will wake up remorsefully one day, enough is enough and who will make the supreme sacrifice.

And if not, short of natural d____ or mass uprising, as Filipinos, I am sorry to report we are screwed for the foreseeable future!

“THE PNP will ask the Makati regional trial court to allow the transfer of Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV from Camp Crame to the New Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa to ensure his safety..”

What a perverted sense of justice! If Judge Pimentel receives the request, he is likely to grant it.

Ensure his safety? Gloria, Razon, Sir Raul O and others really mean to liquidate him and Lim, for good!

If this is the rule of law and the kind of justice that prevail in a damned country like the Philippines, heaven forbid another Iraq is in the make. Am not wishing for the worse, but acts like this by people who flaunt the rule of law only invite more trouble. Like those criticisms levelled against Trillanes and company, the same mistakes (but more grievous) are being committed by those who wield illegitimate power. One can’t solve injustice by perpetrating another injustice.

  11. parasabayan parasabayan

J Cruz, you are right! The next scene to oust this rat has to come from her inner circle. Someone who has the moral to stand up and be counted. Amongst the 40 thieves she has with her, I do not see any possible”girl scout”. They are all thieves and criminals to say the least!
Trillianes and Lim are our modern day heroes! Whatever the tiyanak and her criminal partners do, it will not change the admiration we have for these men and those other officers in Tanay too!
Trillianes and Lim have very pure hearts and intentions. They do not have to align with anybody to manifst that, unlike the tiyanak who planned the ouster of Erap for over a year using all the factions. If there is anyone to be put in jail or even shot, it should be the tiyanak because she engineered the ousting of a legal president! For those who supported her then, they must be kicking and punching themselves because now they see that they installed a criminal as a president!
Putting the two in Muntinlupa is a bid insult to the asspweron. The tiyanak and her criminal dogs are telling asspweron “you do not do a good job of guarding them”!
I am pretty sure that if these two will be jailed in Muntinlupa, the hardened criminals will kiss the ground where they walk! The criminals will probably be honored that they have in their midst two of the national heroes!

  12. hawaiianguy hawaiianguy

Chi, your Pilosopo Tasyo’s quote is very apt in our curent situation. Whose voice rings loudly now? Whose actions dominate? In a society like ours, Gloria is the epitome of a vociperous, domineering and abusive leader. The question as to when, and how, most Filipinos will put a stop to her excesses begs a serious answer. If J. Cruz is correct in his prognosis, Gloria is fortifying her hold to power beyond 2010. I can’t wait to vote her out, but better boot her out now than wait for another 3 miserable years.

  13. cocoy cocoy

Those criminals doesn’t know what is right and wrong, they are a disgraced to society and that’s the reason why they are herded in behind bars. In the slammer only the strong in terms of money and connections survive. Jaloslos in their congressman, Sanches is the mayor, now, is Arroyo going to give them another senator? He did not put Erap in, because Gloria will be considered as the president. In terms of money Trillanes and Lim will soon be bankrupt, the hotel tab will be deliver to them. Jaloslos is licking Gloria’s arse right now, he might have a task to eliminate the two in exchange for his pardon. Jaloslos has more power than the two combine in term of connection and money. I don’t know about the other rapist Sanches.

  14. J. Cruz J. Cruz

Parasabayan: In an earlier posting, I had hoped and am relying on the crews of PAL to make the supreme sacrifices.

They will be our modern day heroes! I am even willing to foot the bills in a significant way to put up monuments in their honors!

Thanks for agreeing! A tragedy of “epic” proportion will also serve notices to those left behind. Mass cleansing?

Sorry if I sounded sinister brought about by an endless stream of assaults courtesy of your President. I want no part of her!

  15. hawaiianguy hawaiianguy

Tayabasin, you’re damned right! Trillanes and company are not supposed to be confined in Munti. Why? They have not been convicted yet. And the crime of “rebellion” they are accused of is just a usual fabrication or branding by someone powerful who is afraid to lose such status. Legal minds have a better take on this matter. I can’t imagine Guingona, Nemenzo, Fr. Reyes, Bishop Labayen, etc. – even Trillanes and Lim – who were unarmed, would qualify as “rebels.”

  16. rose rose

Ilagay nila si Gen. Lim and Sen. Trillanes..at isama sa mga “hardened criminals” (kuno) at may milagro na mangyari..tutulungan ng mga ito sila Lim at Trillanes and gone with the wind si putot…Dirty Dozens?

  17. ipaglaban_mo ipaglaban_mo

hawaiianguy, I totally agree that Gloris is fortifying her position by 2010. Maybe she won’t run for the top-spot, but, I’m pretty sure she’ll be grooming someone to be as ruthless as her. Better to kick her out now than later…

  18. Brownberry Brownberry

For security reason daw kaya inililipat sa Munti. Someone argued why at Munti when they have not been convicted yet. That’s correct.

  19. Did anyone notice? Since Kirstie Kenney’s statement about “upholding the rule of law” right after the siege, the mini-tyrant’s speeches have all referred to “rule of law” as if it existed under her stolen reign. Everytime I hear that phrase from her makes me squirm. Of all people, Gloria, lecturing us on rule of law?

  20. Gloria’s mouth should be stuffed with her own speech documents and then stamped “Rule of Law, Done!”

  21. J. Cruz J. Cruz

Hard core criminals have more principles than GMA and her delegation! Trust me! They will embrace and eventually become the security details of Trillanes and his cause-oriented supporters!

  22. Bring them to Muntinlupa and they will be in for a big surprise! The hardened criminals who lord it there do so because there is no single figure that unites them, not even for the right reasons. Put in Trillanes’ charisma and Lim’s idealism there and you have thousands of willing-to-die volunteers who will finish the job they started in Oakwood and The Pen.

What they sorely needed in Peninsula, they might get in Bilibid without even asking for it. Remember, they had to put Gringo on board a floating prison to prevent his escape but the prison went with him!

  23. hawaiianguy hawaiianguy

Kenney’s and Gloria’s “rule of law” are nothing more than rhetorics. Excellent and pleasing to hear as an ideal, but immediately pales in comparison with realities on the ground.

Remember the saying, “it’s good for you and me, provided I am the law.”

  24. Brownberry Brownberry

If Trillanes and his group are transferred to Munti, all the inmates will join them. Trillanes can easily come up with a battalion of battle-hungry future soldiers.

  25. Anna, I’ll remember that! Hahaha! I can’t imagine the scene with the midget hanging on a lamppost with her big mouth stuffed full of her speeches and the big letters “DONE” stamped across it. How’s that for tourism? It would surely beat the boring temples of Bali or the white bitches, er, beaches, of Phuket!

  26. Tongue,

Re: “Put in Trillanes’ charisma and Lim’s idealism there and you have thousands of willing-to-die volunteers who will finish the job they started in Oakwood and The Pen.”

That would be fantastic — can you imagine, Lim and Trillanes setting up a para-military academy, i.e., PBA (Philippine Bilibid Academy) to transform those prisoners into disciplined citizens of the Republic and perhaps become the new troops? Give Esperon’s lil army a run for their money? Hahahahahah!

After all, one of the most distinguished military outfits in the world, the French Foreign Legion was started off by recruiting criminals, murderers, wanted dead or alive elements of society — formidable training turned these men into Legionnaires, one of the greatest war machines in the history of the world.

Can you imagine Lim, a West Pointer, Trillanes, a PMAer turning thousands of indisciplined prison inmates into Philippine Bilibid Legion? Heheh! Give those prisoners something to do and they would grab it. Turn them into men instead of society’s toxic waste and I have no doubt you could recruit some of the potential mercenaries that could give Esperon a run for his money!

    I say JUST DO IT!

Fabulous idea Tongue — I’m all for it.

  27. Lim and Trillanes could give those prisoners’ miserable lives a purpose…

  28. ipaglaban_mo ipaglaban_mo

Excellent point, tongue-twisted and AdeBrux. I couldn’t agree more.

Hey guys, this is the other view, the cynical but objective and no vested interest view:

Have you ever read or saw the photos of the prison cell of Nelson Mandela? Let Trillanes and company have theirs too for history’s sake.

In the Philippines, has ever occurred to you that more law violations and more crimes had been committed by officials and employees of the executive branch, the legislative branch and the judiciary than all the prisoners (alive or long dead) in Muntinlupa and elsewhere since these were established? It’s a pittance really the crimes they committed compare with people killed by neglect, in money stolen, rapes done by these honourable men. Haven’t you thought that the inmates of Mandaluyong mental facility are more decent and honest than all the Congressmen and Senators, all the justices in the Supreme and the Court of Appeals? If this is the truth and nobody does anything about it, then nothing can set us free.

Trillanes and company should not mind so much being incarcerated in Muntinlupa, they are in better company than being with Congressmen and Senators and Justices. God even has His reason not allowing Trillanes to get his seat in the Senate.

  30. rebelfiancee rebelfiancee

Well,it’s not surprising! I kept on thinking what does “RULE OF LAW” means for GLORIA? Is rule of law applicable only to those who had the guts to spit on her? If only i can count how many times she had betrayed the trust of Filipino people… can we apply to her THE RULE OF LAW? A wise president yet idiot!

Kailan nila ililipat sina Sen. Trillanes at Gen. Lim? Bago dumating si putot? Yon ba ang “ipamasko” nila?..Dalidalian sana nila and soon she will be gone? 32. parasabayan parasabayan

Wasn’t Erap supposed to have been brought to the Munti immediately after he was convicted? But instead of bringing him there, he was instead pardoned. So miracles do happen. Israel just released hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. Myanmar just released 20 of its political prisoners. So maybe the tiyanak will have a change of heart and release all these rebel soldiers. Am I dreaming or halucinating or what?

  33. florry florry

    Tongue,
I like your input. You excite my imagination; re: Trillanes and Lim in Munti.
If that happens what has been played and seen in reel world will soon be for real. It has been widely believed that convicts want to be seen as matatapang, mga siga at mga tunay na lalaki and so it follows that they also like to be associated and in the company of a class of their own. No doubt, the inmates know where the duo is coming from. They maybe even more than happy to join forces at least magkakaroon ng kabuluhan ang buhay nila para sa bayan at mga tao So I don’t see any problem for the two in joining and blending with those in Munti, eventually form and train them into a formidable fighting force. And while Gloria and her lapdogs may have some sinister motives for wanting them to be confined in Munti, they will not succeed.

  34. Still, I would not like Trillanes, et al to be transferred to Muntinlupa. Visiting them will be more restricted.

I know for a fact that if you do not have connections there, you will be subjected to the most humiliating body checks that are in fact not necessary and implemented in more civilized societies.

I once visited a Japanese inmate there whom we believed was wrongly convicted. It was a good thing I had a cousin working there. Otherwise, I was told that I would have to strip off and everything checked, including my genitals.

I would not like the wives, et al of these few good men to be subjected to such humiliation. They have suffered more than enough.

  47. Brownberry Brownberry

Yes indeed, Ninoy was better treated by Marcos than the detainess today under this GMA regime. Ninoy was even allowed to travel to the US for his heart problem. He promised not to attack the government but he did. And whatever happen to that revelation of one released soldier who pointed to Danding Cojuangco as the mastermind. We didn’t hear any denial from Danding, did we? Bakit walang investigation? Cory knew all along that it was not Marcos. Even if Cory’s family knew it was Danding (maybe in cahoot with Imelda) who did it, wala silang magawa.

  48. If it is true that Danding has anything to do with the murder of Ninoy, and Cory has not done anything to avenge the death of her husband, it must be because Danding is in fact her blood relative. Iyan ang sinasabing, “Blood is thicker than water!” kahit may family split pa sila kahit ngayon. Mga Cojuangco nga naman!

Nevertheless, I doubt that Danding has anything to do with the murder of Ninoy.

  51. Brownberry Brownberry

You’ve a point, Yuko. I beg to disagree that “Blood is thicker” applies to all and everyone. What I find it strange is that there was no formal denial statement from Danding’s camp. As a matter of fact, another soldier who already passed away also wanted to reveal the identity of the mastermind presumably referring to Danding.
