The police unit that assaulted the Manila Peninsula hotel to quell an attempted uprising last November 29 should be slapped with charges for arresting, detaining, and manhandling journalists covering the incident, Senator Francis Escudero said Tuesday.
“The medals they received were commendations for protecting not the people but the President [Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo] only and for that they should be condemned for violating their oath to serve the people and defend the Constitution,” Escudero said.
Escudero’s statement came a day after three police generals and some 20 other officers received medals for their roles in the Makati standoff. Among them were the ground commander, National Capital Region Police Office Director Geary Barias.
The senator noted that among the awardees were officers who had been reprimanded by the Senate for not showing up at an inquiry into how the police treated media during the failed uprising staged by Senator Antonio Trillanes IV and his followers.
“On the part of the Senate, they were already reprimanded for not attending the Senate inquiry because of a flimsy and false excuse,” Escudero said.
Correct, they should be slapped with charges for arresting, detaining, and manhandling journalists covering the incident, but why did it take until now (3 weeks later) to come up with this gem, could he be thinking ahead to 2010.
“On the part of the Senate, they were already reprimanded for not attending the Senate inquiry because of a flimsy and false excuse,” Escudero said.
Can the Senate do anything else than just reprimand those who do not attend its inquiry? It seems that the senate doesn’t have any “pangil” to show the Gloria boys.

Now we know why Sen. Trillanes and Gen. Lim and others did not get support from these trapos! Naiinis ako talaga sa sinabi ni Escudero na ‘yan!
No good that they had only been reprimanded by Escudero’s Senate hearing for not showing up at an inquiry into how the police treated media when Escudero had his chence to be firm with them in his own committee but ‘bottled out’ from making them explain their absence. There’s no wonder that the Senate look to be a shameful bunch, they deserve to.
Knowing that we have good ‘military’ bloggers here in Elensville I’m sorry to have to say the AFP & PNP are nothing but lawless thugs.
I really hope and pray that there are others like Lim, Trillanes etc. hiding somewhere in the system because we need them to take action and rescue these institutions and soon!
Can you imagine the likes of Lim & Trillanes accepting such an insulting medal for emptying a hotel of fifty or so reporters armed with pens and wet hotel bath towels – friggin bravery… its a joke!
Yup, we’re fast losing all the institutions, if not yet. Many of those we put our hopes in the Senate are not doing good jobs. Often, they run after pogi points din for 2010!
The biggest danger they faced were ‘friendly fire’ from there own untrained monkeys, nobody else fired a shot!.

Sa totoo lang, nagka-onsehan talaga sa PEN standoff.
Mostly ng N29 except kay Bibeth (pro-Erap) eh naging mabigat na kritiko ni Pres. Erap noong EDSA II, kaya na compromise sina AT4/Gen. Lim and co. sa labang ito.
Di ba ang civil society na identified na kaalyado ni GMA eh nasa likod ng walked-out na ito at ofcourse di siguro nagustuhan ng mga tunay na taga-suporta nina AT4 ang aimed and objective ng grupo na nasa likod nila.
But, we are still hoping na ang tunay na Masang Pilipino organizations will help and support AT4/Gen. Lim sa labang ito.
Napasok kasi ng mga espiya ni GMA ang hanay nina AT4 kaya nabokya sila sa PEN standoff. Ang suspetsa ko eh pakawalang grupo ni GMA ang nagmaniobra at nagpromised ng tulong sa PEN standoff pero iniwan nila sa ere ang mga pobre di ba.
Isang lesson ito sa ating lahat, kaya dapat paka suriing mabuti kung sinu-sino ang talagang tapat sa ipinaglalabang ito ng di na muling maulit ang nabokyang laban na ito.

Salamat na lang at hindi natapat ng November-January ang election sa bansa,kung hindi lalabas ang totoong pagiging lumpenistan ng Isla ng Pilipinas.

come to think of it….wasn’t trillanes’ actions at the PEN were actually done “in aid of legislation”. we should give him credit for that. why? that single courageous act validated a lot of things which other senators would need several unproductive hearings to do ( and without result).
1. trillanes was able to prove that the intelligence budget of esperon goes somewhere else. he was caught flat-footed.
2. that the PNP’s rules of engagement are defective.
3. that the administration would use strong arm tactics against the media.
4. that majority are fence-sitters
5. that the youth (except for those magdalos ang lim) does not have the monoply as “hope of the fatherland”. karamihan matatanda na ang nandun.
6. that soldiers and policemen will shoot at each other for a meager pay of 240 pesos just so gloria and company can travel to spain.
7. that esperon still looks and talks like an idiot (honestly, i dunno how that can be legislated)
8. last but most importantly, the incident shows that our justice system is next to nil and that the rule of law only applies to citizens. gloria, esperon and their ilk are above the law.

Sobrang kapal talaga ng mukha ng mga Pulis-patola ni Gloria. Binigyan ng medalya samantalang ang daming nilang kapalpakan na ginawa. Isa pang dapat ipaliwanag ng PNP team sa Manila Pen stand-off ay ang nakawang nangyari sa hotel na ginawa ng ‘PNP raiding team’. Ni-raid as in ninakawan nila ang Manila Pen hotel. Mga bantay-salakay!

from a reliable source (the awardees themselves)…they are not “HAPPY” with the medals they got. sana daw, kinonvert na lang sa cash. may request pa sila. hwag na raw ipasoli yung nakulimbat sa PEN. ganyan ang mga pulis, ang tatapang basta merong pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

I’m happy with Escudero’s no none sense drive against corruption and GMA government. May balak yatang tumakbong Vice-President. Any of the presidential aspirants can take Escudero anytime. He’s a very big asset.
