Wanted: A better scriptwriter

Update on coup plot, click here for Victor Reyes’ story

As I’m writing this column,
it was announced by the Department of Justice that former Scout Ranger Sgt. Orlando Valencia has been ordered released after their initial investigation showed “no probable cause” for charges filed against him by the PNP Criminal Intelligence and Detection Group.

Valencia, together with three other former Scout Rangers Corporals Ramon Perania, Walter Francisco, and Redantel Mara-nan and a civilian driver Kim Agas were arrested Tuesday afternoon by elements of ISAFP (Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines) for allegedly plotting a coup.

An active Scout Ranger, Sgt. Jaime Dumagpi, has also been reportedly arrested in connection with the coup plot that Esperon and other officials of Arroyo have been selling to the public.

The reason for DOJ’s dismissal of charges against Valencia is good comedy stuff. The ISAFP presented only three firearms (one AK-47 and two M16s). Since the charge was “illegal possession of firearms”, how can five people possess three firearms?

At last Wednesday’s start of the preliminary investigation, Trixie Angeles, lawyer of the six, pointed out there is no such thing as “constructive possession of illegal firearms.”. A person has to personally possess an illegal firearm to be guilty of illegal possession of one.

Since there were only three firearms, why were five persons being accused? The CIDG said two persons were holding one firearm.

The CIDG story has spawned jokes among reporters. One joke is that the reason there were only three firearms (and rusty ones at that, as pointed out by Atty. Angeles) was those were the only ones the ISAFP found in their office when they were ordered to arrest the former Scout Rangers.

The DOJ is correct in disbelieving the ISAFP and CIDG’s story that two former soldiers, both members of an elite unit, were holding one firearm. It’s laughable. Ano yan, pinagtuwangan?

In the DOJ’s order to drop charges against the two, both names were Valencia’s. Ay naku! They need a better scriptwriter.

Seven years ago, at around this time, anti-Estrada forces coming mostly from the middle class, were holding rallies at the Edsa Shrine calling for the ouster of Estrada.

Gloria Arroyo, who was then vice president had just arrived from Rome from where she had sent her letter of resignation from the Estrada cabinet (she was social welfare and development secretary) after much prodding from her advisers led by her lawyers and political advisers led by now Supreme Court Justice Antonio Carpio and former Defense Secretary Avelino Cruz.

Two days earlier, Jan. 16, the prosecution panel in the impeachment trial of Estrada walked out when they didn’t get the vote to open the second envelope that contained the record of Jose Velarde’s bank account.

While members of “civil society” were calling on people to come to Edsa Shrine, Arroyo was nearby at the Linden Suites on San Miguel Avenue, directing the ouster of the duly elected president. It was a culmination of an ouster plot that had started more than a year earlier.

They needed the warm bodies at the Edsa Shrine while Arroyo, together with former Fidel Ramos, worked on then AFP chief of staff Angelo Reyes to defect. Eventually, on Jan. 20, they got Reyes and as the cliché goes, the rest is history.

Today, third week of January, instead of celebrating “people power” that enabled her to grab the presidency, Arroyo and her minions are warning of arrests and another coup plot.

The law of karma is catching up with her.

The beauty of Arroyo’s karma is that it is being used against her by her very own people for their own selfish ends. AFP chief of staff Hermogenes Esperon needs coup rumors badly to justify the much-desired extension of his services. And it looks like it’s working for him.

  1. Lest no one forget, Gloria and her husband were the first violators of the Constitution, the people who crapped on the people’s right to bring the impeachment trial of Erap to a legal conclusion.

  2. Allow me to give Esperon the extesion he seeks. I’l gladly give him an extension cord to hang himself with.

  3. luzviminda luzviminda

“The CIDG said two persons were holding one firearm.” Hahaha! Nakakatawa talaga ang script nila, pang- Bubble Gang episode!

  4. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

  5. This government is so fond of shooting themselves in the foot, don’t they?

One’s got to invent them if they didn’t exist…

  6. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

Yes, this government has credibility issue. Most of the time Gloria’s loyal attack dogs have conflicting statements. They have no coordination at all. Kaya buking agad.

  7. BOB BOB

  8. adhikain adhikain

I resolved to refrain commenting here and settled myself reading ellen’s updates and reading comments.

On EDSA II — I agree with gloria that “it was the most powerful answer of the weak to the corruption of the powerful.” Indeed, she understood the core message of the event but right there and then, she is forever haunted by its message. Like Marcos, she managed to buy the highest ranking brass of the military to safeguard her volatile presidency.

On the script: The top brass who received the “gift” of the president badly need justifications of the ghostly coup plot. How could you trace the footprints of an imagined ghost?

  9. chi chi

    Palpak, palpak, palpak si Asspweron!
Tatlong baril, 5 tao ang magku-coup, wala pang lider!

    Bow ka na Asspweron, palakpakan!

  10. chi chi

What shame!!!

  11. chi chi

“The beauty of Arroyo’s karma is that it is being used against her by her very own people for their own selfish ends.”

Her own people are her real boss! She entertwined her karma with theirs via her original sin. Beauty talaga, Ellen.

    AdB,

Just curious, have you changed your blog?

  13. rose rose

  14. HG,

Nope, haven’t changed blog… still ManilaBayWatch.

  15. This government is so fond of shooting themselves in the foot, don’t they?

One’s got to invent them if they didn’t exist…

In short bobo! Mahirap iyang mga bobong nagdudunung-dunungan. Delikado iyan! Like the idiota squatting at the palace by the murky river. She thinks she’s a queen but in fact, ang dating mas royalty pa iyong tindera sa bangketa. And the nerve to rub shoulders with the royalties of Europe! Yuck! 😛

  16. Please tune in to DZMM at 7:45. I’ll be interviewed by Gerry Baja re faeldon’s escape. Imagine, PNP is leaking clues like letter T and Visayan of the lady reporter who allegedly helped faeldon escape.

  17. Truth is I got stomach pain laughing to my heart’s desire at this antics of the crooks who look more and more stupid as a matter of fact each day they even try to make themselves look glorified making announcements of their make-believe destabilization plots.

You bet, a lot many public funds have been wasted on these ati-atihan (in deference to HG about the use of “moro-moro” 😉 ) antics of Gloria Dorobo and her minions, for they do have to pay those dummies overtime for planting those evidences on those innocent active and former soldiers, whose love of country I am told is still intact despite the ordeals, trials and tribulations that they are being subjected to by the “halimaws”!

Besides, katakot-takot na suhol ang pihadong binayad ni Dorobo to get the “loyalty” of these idiots, Assperon, Gunggonzales, et al, pati na iyong binabayarang journalists daw.

  18. …these antics….Sori, plural nga pala! 😛

  19. Ellen,

Cannot access the station now. May bayad na kasi. Will just wait for someone to post it on Youtube. ABS-CBN should have this kind of media program free of charge for all to watch and hear as a public service. Sobra naman ang swapang! 🙁

Fetus nakuha sa CR ng Palasyo
Nina Rudy Andal at Gemma Amargo-Garcia
    Friday, January 18, 2008

—-Kaninong fetus iyon? Hindi kaya mula kay GMA? Remember
GMA frequented St. Luke’s Hospital lately.

  21. Brownberry Brownberry

Please tune in to DZMM at 7:45. I’ll be interviewed by Gerry Baja re faeldon’s escape. Imagine, PNP is leaking clues like letter T and Visayan of the lady reporter who allegedly helped faeldon escape.

Huh? seems PNP is addicted to “storytelling a lie”…Maybe they should asked themselves..Why would someone help CAPT. FAELDON? And now spreading the clue? In order for them to justify their LIES?

  23. Brownberry Brownberry

Too bad I missed it. The above notice came a bit too late. If the clue is that of a Visayan lady reporter, huwag naman sana na kayo po Ellen ang pagbintangan…

  24. luzviminda luzviminda

  25. This is what I told Gerry Baja:

At kung tumakas man, may tumulong ba talagang reporter?

  27. Ellen,

These turds are hell bent on shooting themselves in the foot aren’t they? What will they invent next? That Faeldon is hiding in Antique perhaps?

When one is an idiot with an IQ of 25, there’s nothing one can do about it — better just laugh at them.

  28. Brownberry Brownberry

So what if you were the one who helped Faeldon?
The problem with Malacanang and its AFP/PNP goons is that when they are accused of wrongdoings, they immediately demand proofs and evidences from the accusers who are the people. Walang masabi dahil talagang wala. They cannot even prove if Faeldon indeed is in hiding, taken to safe house by the military (ISAFP) or even already dead. As long as they don’t produce his body, we cannot believe these liars in Malacanang.

  29. True, Anna.

But I’m really disappointed with Gen. Razon. Why is he allowing himself to be used this way? I know him to be a decent officer.

  30. Ellen,

The question that comes to my mind is , why you of all people? Marami namang mga taga media dun, marami pang lalaki? How could Faeldon use your ID, wala bang picture ang mga ‘to?

  31. Hi Ellen,

Sent another email. Please forward to anyone interested so we can also exchange addresses in the process.

  32. Brownberry Brownberry

I’m also surprised with Gen. Razon’s behavior. I also know him to be a decent man. I know how hard it is to follow illegal orders. But then, I guess that’s how it is in the military.

  33. Brownberry Brownberry

What Juggernaut? Si Ellen na ba ang tinutukoy? Is it true that Faeldon used Ellen’s ID? Mabigat na ito. I’ll take a break and watch on the side. If you need our help, let me know. I promise you I can help in my own way. Subukan lang nila!

  34. Ellen,

We had this discussion about Sonny Razon in a much earlier blog thread — you said that Sonny Razon impressed you as one good fellow. I said Sonny might be a ‘charming’ fellow, more than the next cop but that he is as dishonest, intellectually and morally as the next copper.

The guy grew in the wings of Malacanang where politicians, presidents, lovers and the like exchanged favours, etc., I’m of the opinion that a leopard doesn’t change spots.

  35. bb,

Yep. Just confirmed with one of my PNP buddies this morning. Natatawa nga ako, I told him its ludicrous, I met lady T and told him she’s not the type to do clandestine work, ako pa siguro pwede (as I was popular for sneaking into the mess hall at night to steal food in the old days and in the tac-o’s office at 3AM to use their phones and call my girlfriend long distance, minsan nga overseas call pa).

  36. Jug, sent you text. I’m rushing to an appointment.

  37. You are right, Anna.

  38. klingon klingon

Ellen, the story that Capt. Nick was assisted by a reporter is also a ploy to remove support from Capt. Faeldon and all other disenters. They are using him as the reason for the media crackdown to justify the arrests and the media advisory. Then they will tell media, kasalanan ni Faeldon kaya kayo pinapahirapan.

We all know here na hindi ka nag-assist kay Kapitan “kidlat” Faeldon.
Maybe tama ka nga klingon, it’s blame it to the media time pag wala silang mahanap na fall-guys.

  41. Ellen,

The question that comes to my mind is , why you of all people? Marami namang mga taga media dun, marami pang lalaki? How could Faeldon use your ID, wala bang picture ang mga ‘to?

What is this ID? Si Faeldon daw nagpanggap na babaing journalist? Ginawa pang bakla iyong talagang lalaki! Susmaryosep!

  42. BB:

Grabe iyan bintang nila kung totoo man. Imagine, si Faeldon magpapanggap na babae? Ano sila masaya?

  44. I resolved to refrain from replying here, and settled myself reading the updates of ellen and your comments. But I’m really disgusted by the recent drama of the military.

The Edsa Dos is forthcoming. In 1993, Gloria aptly described Edsa Dos as “the most powerful answer of the weak to the corruption of the powerful.” Since then, she’s forever haunted by this historic event and bought the top brass officers of the military to safeguard his volatile presidency.

The recent script of coup plot is the continuing ploy of these generals to justify their importance by crafting the ghostly coup plots. They will paralyze the media, not because they allowed themselves to be used in the systemic propaganda of the Magdalo, but because they persistently ask the whereabout of these ghostly coup plots.

  45. You know what, the powers that be are too confused or too idiotic, they might even pick anyone up on suspicion without thinking twice about it. They are no longer embarassed by obviously stupid mistakes in public.

  46. parasabayan parasabayan

Nice shot there Ellen in the Inquirer. DOROBO’s gang really have to pin someone down for their blunders. If they were really thorough, why did some of the Magdalo soldiers escape? Belat, naisahan din kayo, ano!

Plan A (the 5 enlisted men starting a coup) failed, now plan B is in place. There are faxes kuno being circulated for peoples’ signature but the fax copies were fussy. DUH! Baka galing lang yan sa DOROBO’s fax machine(kay tiyanak o asspweron o Gunggongzalez o Puno-ang root ng lahat ng kabalbalan o kaya si tabako and his gang). These hoodlums are relentless! We do not know who are pulling the strings on the stage. Tabako still wants to be in power too and he has all his men(Puno, Aspweron, JDV etc…) fielded in Dorobo’s kingdom. So, we really do not know who are rocking Dorobo’s boat. She is obviously not in control! Kanya kanya silang “coup”. I wonder who will win the power grab!!!!!!!

  47. I’m showing “Dekada 70” and “Ama Namin” to Filipinos in Japan. It’s one way of educating them on the social, political, etc. problems of the Philippines now. much worse than the problems during the Martial Rule during the time of Marcos.

I recommend it to all to see and imagine the kind of torture, etc. that these idiots, who must have been the same bunch of idiots who made Marcos a hateful president, have done to these present and former soldiers they are accusing of destabilizagtion just because they cannot bear to pledge allegiance and loyalty to a creepy criminal. Buti na lang nagkaroon ng Gloria Dorobo to make Marcos look better!!! 😛

  48. parasabayan parasabayan

Masaya ito! On the 22nd of Jan she will be leaving for Switzerland. Noli will be in command, kaya? The best decision the tiyanak ever made was to pick a Vice President who will not have the balls to staged a coup against her! She certainly got one! Had she chosen someone like her (audacious, scheming, wily, ruthless and has a killer and criminal instinct), she would not have lasted in power as she did. So now, those with undying ambitions like her, to hang on to power, are doing what needs to be done to oust her! These ambitious people were the same entities who installed her in the first place. Maganda ang laban ngayon because the tiyanak does not know who her enemies are. Ang sarap manood!!!!!

  49. “Arroyo: RP ‘stronger, more stable’ despite ‘shenanigans’,” says a Philippine Inquirer banner. Wow! E siya, ano siya? Hindi lang shenanigan, hardened criminal pa! Sarap magmura!

A bomb just exploded near the Subic Bay Seaport killing at least two. Expect more to come. Wasn’t that Marcos’ style before he declared the Martial Law? Halatang halata na trying hard siya to be a dictator. She makes Marcos a hero given all her corruption, lying, cheating and she even surpassed the murderous regime of Marcos. What Marcos did over a decade, the DOROBO has outdone him in less than a decade. What a record!

    AdeBrux,

Erap.

Kaya heto wala silang katahimikan sa enchanted kingdom morethan 7-years na at mayroon pang 2years kung aabutin pa sila?

  58. balweg balweg

Payat ang Saigon compared with Manila. I didnt see much soldiers in Saigon or police. Only barbed wires. There were no explosions, only motorcycle riding girls. Military ten wheelers filled with M-16s guarded by a lady in each threw me one. I gave her Tanduay rum. She asked if I wanted a helicopter.

  62. balweg balweg

    Valdemar,

Nice point!

  63. balweg balweg

  64. It’s a must see iyong “Dekada 70.” Walang pinag-iba sa sitwasyon ngayon, I think, except for the fact that back then talaga namang maraming namundok.

Hindi ko naranasan iyong mga karanasan ng sempai kong si Satur Ocampo, et al kasi over here in Japan, libre naman kaming mag-rally kahit na naabutan ko iyong violent rallies dito ng mga estudyanteng kasama sa Zengakuren na binatikos iyong US-Japan military treaty at Vietnam War noong 60’s and 70’s. Snakedancing dito na-witness ko. Grabe! Katwiran nila hindi puedeng masayang ang kahit na anong sakripisyo, which is true in a lot many sense.

Sabi nga, “Hangga’t may nagpapaalipin, may mang-aalipin.”

    Just my yen.

  65. To Ellen: Ingat! Heaven forbid!

I’m also not for violence, pero kung iyon lang ang paraan, bakit hindi? Ngitngit na ngitngit ako when I watched “Dekada 70.” Kaya balak ko ipalabas iyon sa mga pilipino to remind them of the what happens when people are indifferent and complacent—they lose their freedom. I am looking for a venue right now. Libre palabas. Siyempre naman magdi-distribute kami ng mga polyetos to inform them of the real situation in the Philippines now with a criminal at the helm of the government.

I understand it earned Vilma Santos and Piolo Pascual best actress and best supporting actor award. That movie is a must see.

  66. parasabayan parasabayan

She does not even hide it anymore. You better just shut up!

  67. PSB: … haaay titah, welcome to the club… 🙂

Tuwa ako dito. Bwahahahaha! Sobrang character assassination iyan! Lalaking tunay ginagawang binabae! Heaven forbid!

It reminds me of our domestic helper when I was a kid.

Just read na nag go-goodbye na daw si asspweron by visiting all the AFP units in preparation for his retirement. Siyanga? Only to turn around and ran for the presidency and she made sure that she won by cheating big? I know a lot of college graduates in my immediate family who can not even find any job). With the devalued dollar and the more than doubled prices of all consumer items in the Philippines, palaging short ang mga padala.

When I interpret for the police and observe the more competent Japanese police do their job—lintek ang team work and efficiency—hangang-hanga ako. I learned a lot about proper investigating of cases and analyzing evidences to get proper and right conclusions vital for the solution of a case.

Corrupt kasi.

Jug posed a very interesting question: Of all the reporters and journalists, why did they pick on Ellen? Why not Ces Drilon, Pinky Webb and even the rest like Herman Tiu Laurel? If they have a video clip that they claim could serve as evidence, then they must show it to the public. Again, why Ellen? Is she now the most popular and bravest journalist? Were they so afraid of her? Granting without admitting that it’s Ellen, so what? If it was wrong to help another get out of the hotel, then they should also charge Ces Drilon and the media who accompanied Trillanes’ group from the Makati Court to Manila Pen.

  75. Brownberry Brownberry

FYI: PTE junked Loren Legarda’s election protest against Noli de Castro. After spending so much money and waiting many years, Legarda lost. It must be very painful to her. Now that the case has come to a close, legally speaking of course…would Loren agree to be Noli’s running mate in 2010? Possible…if Malacanang reimburses all the expenses incurred by Loren in her protest against Noli. But knowing Loren to be a woman with very high esteem, call it arrogance if you want, hindi papayag iyan. On the contrary, I think that would convince her to stick it out with the opposition. The decision is timely because if Loren runs in 2010, she will lose her right to protest the election and make this protest moot and academic. Iyan din ang nangyari noon kay Miriam Santiago when she filed election protest against FVR.

Edsa would be meaningless and not be effective if there’s no Edsa Shrine, iyon ginamit ng mga tao sa pagbagsak kay Marcos pati na si Erap. Then, the Catholic Church (courtesy of then Cardinal Sin) claimed Edsa Shrine to be solely for the Catholic Church use; sa private daw iyon at hindi public. I remember one time when people attempted to gather at Edsa Shrine but was met by a battalion of heavily armed soldiers. Of course that happened during the time of GMA. As long as GMA is still in power, no group could come close to Edsa Shrine.

The latest announcement that is being given by installment is that the coup is well-financed. Wow, ha? Sino? Why don’t they ask Gloria Dorobo herself who must have enough money to be going on another gallivanting spree in Europe and the Middle East.

  79. BB:

Forget about EDSA. Mas maganda sa Makati. Or better, doon sa Luneta. Truth is I have never been to that EDSA Shrine.

  81. balweg balweg

    Grizzy,

A People Power, Revolt or whatever you call it would not be complete without Edsa Shrine.

  83. Brownberry Brownberry

May I add that the church specifically the Catholic Church has long been in cahoot with the abusive state and government for centuries as proven by history. Don’t you notice that in every city hall and municipal building, there is a Parish Church nearby? Why? What does it tell you?

  84. balweg balweg

Hay salamat Browberry: I agree with you na ang EDSA ang naging daan to open the pandoras boxes kasi I, II and III ito.

Can you imagine Ellen wearing a man’s military uniform? Aba, cute naman tignan.

  88. rontoniotrill4 rontoniotrill4

Hehehe!

  91. The media right now is probably our last line of defense and we’re at the end of that line…

  92. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

  93. diego,

Imagine, staging a coup, 5 guys shooting it out with 3 rifles – ano manghiram na lang yung dalawa?

  95. Brownberry Brownberry

My kababayan, if the PNP has strong evidence on Ellen, let them file a case in court against her. Nandiyan naman si Atty. Harry Roque at marami pang maka-masang abogado na handang tumulong. If you ask me, it indeed it’s true that Ellen helped Faeldon escaped, it doesn’t affect a bit my respect and admiration for her. Come to think of it…who would help Faeldon and his group if not people like Ellen? She just did what was right and according to her conscience. More than ever, Ellen needs our support and prayers.

  96. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

  97. luzviminda luzviminda

    Jug at DKG,

  98. Brownberry Brownberry

More than ever, media is now being tested for its obligation and responsibility. If it’s Ellen whom they are accusing and charging for the offense, the media regardless of their business differences must now join hands in helping Ellen. Ellen is not just a journalist. She has now become a symbol of the people.

  103. hahahahah!

“Imagine, staging a coup, 5 guys shooting it out with 3 rifles – ano manghiram na lang yung dalawa?

  105. Ang galing talaga ng mga to, gaya ng batasan bombing, sumabog na lahat lahat yung motorcycle, intact pa rin yung DEED OF SALE, as in buong buo pa? sino ba naman ang maglalagay ng bomba sa motor niya at may kasama pang deed of sale?

Nasaan ang DOJ/Supreme Court to STOP this kind of dirty works of our military/police force.

How about the human right advocate sa Pinas?

  112. Takot ang instant Maggi Supreme Court and baliw ang nasa DOJ, what can we expect? Tapos marami pang naniniwala sa kanila, pang gulo daw and media? If media wasn’t there to inform the public, ano na kaya ang nagawa pa nila?

  113. Brownberry Brownberry

Balweg, they could produce Ellen’s duplicate or fake ID. They could do anything under the sun. Sabi nga nila…”What are we in power for?”

Re: the fetus found in Malacanang…kailangan seguro i-exorcise ang palasyo at pati yong nakatira …nakapagtataka hindi ba surrounded ng mga Catholic churches ang Malacanang–St Jude; San Beda; San Miguel Cathedral; San Sebastian; not counting the surrounding catholic schools w/ chapels..inutil na nga and hindi maasahan ang mga..priests, nuns, etc. a Catholic country? a Catholic president? and ito ang nangyayari?

  119. rose rose

    Today: 1/18/2008- 21 more days to go…
Edsa Shrine lang ba ang puedeng lugar? Sa kalye puede naman..just walk slowly..bawal ba ang maglakad sa mahal ng pamasahe..and walking is a good exercise…sa makati mas maganda maglakad…sa Ayala avenue where the Makati Businessmen have their offices..and from their ivory towers they will see…gawing Easter parade..palakad lakad ang mga tao and make it a Halloween in Feb. parade…sa New Orleans they have their Mardi Gras..before Ash Wednesday….Ash Wednesday is Feb. 6, so why not do it then…a Mardi Gras in Makati..just a thought…

  120. Brownberry Brownberry

Try visiting the convents in the provinces and you will be surprised many unborn or even born babies being buried at the back of the convents.

  121. SULBATZ SULBATZ

I came to read about Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus (better known as CALIGULA) while browsing thru the internet and I cannot help but observe the similarities with our modern-day CALIGLORIA.

The article describes the seamier side of CALIGULA’S reign as caracterized by cruelty, extravagance and sexual perversity, presenting him as an insane tyrant. Hmmmm…sounds familiar.

Furthermore, according to the two chroniclers during that time, Cassius Dio and Suetonios, a financial crisis emerged in the Roman empire because Caligula’s political payments for support, generosity and extravagance had exhausted the state’s treasury. Hmmmmmm….sounds familiar again.

  122. SULBATZ SULBATZ

I think that the script being played out by modern-day CALIGLORIA was written by CALIGULA several centuries ago.

Take this for example…writers describe the insane Emperor (CALIGLORIA) as self-absorbed (God wanted her to be President in a dream), angry (at the media and other critical sectors), killed on a whim (extra-judicial killings) and who indulged in too much spending (jetsetting style and junkets abroad in the guise of promoting RP) and sex (ask Linda Montayre). hehehehe

  123. SULBATZ SULBATZ

    More on CALIGULA…..

Caligula’s actions as Emperor were described as being especially harsh to the Senate, the nobility and the equestrian order. According to Josephus, these actions led to several failed conspiracies against Caligula. Eventually, a successful murder was planned by officers within the Praetorian Guard led by Cassius Chaerea. The plot is described as having been planned by three men, but many in the Senate, army and equestrian order were said to have been informed of it and involved in it.

Is history repeating itself? I’m beginning to get spellbound by the unfolding drama. hehehehe

  124. Brownberry Brownberry

I have no doubt that Manila Mayor Fred Lim is a loyal opposition. But what I cannot understand is why he did not allow the farmers to demonstrate at Mendiola. Before and after his reelection as Manila Mayor, Lim promised to open Manila for all who want to express their grievances on political and economic issues. When pressed to give reason, he said he’s just following the intelligence report that these rallyists are destabilizers. I know the answer why he is not allowing any Mendiola rally. I remember that very well….And that Mendiola massacre remains unresolved until this day…no investigation…no chargers against those trigger-happy cops under Gen. Fred Lim at that time.

  126. chi chi

Gunggong Gonzalez was saying that a security footage shows a lady reported creating destruction to help Capt. Faeldon to escape. Where is the footage? What does it prove e talaga namang magulo at ginulo nina Barias ang sitwasyon sa PEN.

  127. chi chi

Sabi ni Razon ay identified sa footage and lady reporter escorting Faeldon out of the Manila Peninsula hotel.

  128. Chi:

Huwag kang maniwala kay Gunggonzales. I saw all the video clips transmitted from Manila for translation so the TV networks, where I do such job, could use them for the morning, noon and evening news breaks. Kung may ilalabas silang clip, iyong ginawa nila. Hindi naman kataka-taka kasi meron silang outfit to make those propaganda gimmicks.

    Yuko,

I don’t believe any of what siRaulo and Razon are saying.

I just opened my computer ’cause for several hours we had no power due to snow storm. Biglang kumulo ang dugo ko. What our Ellen is suspect daw for aiding Faeldon out of Pen, sabi ng mga gunggong? They are certified lunatics!

Ano tawag mo doon?”

Way to go, Ellen! We’re behind you all the way!

  137. Ellen,

How many documentary evidences, tapes and videos have the people presented in their charges against GMA government and all these were denied and not accepted? The one that hurt the people most was the Garci tape. Enough is enough. Gising na bayan!

Elementary, Dr. Watson, Ellen has long covered Trillanes and Lims’s people, in short, the Magdalo’s, even tasted their cookings. The SEALs major task is to recover captured elements. And all these were possibly passed on to Ellen’s proverbial prowess. She’s not only a James Bond. Who would be the likely candidate to be suspected of the great escape by Razon, et al from among the press people? I wouldnt point at Webb or Drilon.

  146. Ellen,

Since it’s Edsa 2 season time, it would be good to re-publish here the the Nick Joaquin’s interview with Mike Arroyo on his role in the ouster of Estrada (published in the Philippine Graphic March 5, 2001).

In that interview, Mike Arroyo boasts of how he and his wife effectively hijacked the Philippines and held the Constitution hostage.

Otherwise, the article and the interview with Mike Arroyo verbatim cand be found in http://www.schumey.blogspot.com or in http://www.manilabaywatch.blogspot.com.

    Thanks.

  147. I believe every single Philippine blogger should post Arroyo’s narration during Edsa 2 season for ‘posterity.’

  148. parasabayan parasabayan

Thanks for the links Anna. Wow, the DOROBOS were really smooth operators. No wonder they know how to plug up holes. They are afraid the same coup they did to Erap will be done to them! They deserve not just a coup but something worse than that!!!

  149. parasabayan parasabayan

Ellen is the target of the military because she is one of the links to the incarcerated officers (Magdalos, Tanay Boys). She has consistently covered the trials and has narrated nothing but the truth about their conditions and treatment. The military would like to completely isolate the incarcerated officers. This is the only obvious reason why Ellen is being harrassed right now.

Ellen, you will not be alone in this fight for the right! There are so many of us who will be behind your genuine quest for the truth. Our fervent prayers are with you! The truth and good will prevail eventually.

  150. Thanks, Anna. Will post it in my blogs likewise. Will ask Schumey to email me a copy so I can post it and make comments on it for future generations of Filipinos to know how these crooks their forebears have voted for tried to make fools of them.

I was never part of the EDSA 2 even when I did not support Erap’s presidential bid because of my religious belief that God does not bless a government dominated by fornicators. However, between Gloria Dorobo and Erap, I would opt for the latter because the truth was he was not robbing from the treasury as there was nothing much to rob then.

I know for a fact that Japan did not want to invite him officially to Japan because Japan did not want to lend him money. It was only when the US invited him to Washington DC that Japan finally set a Japan state visit for him that was actually set for November 2000. It did not materialize because of the impeachment fiasco that Erap stupidly allowed himself to be subjected to, and the rest was history.

Sad to note that Erap seems to have never learned his lesson. Hahanga na sana ako sa kaniya, pero nasira when he agreed to a pardon that actually does not absolve him from the crimes that the Dorobos charged him with. Clemency is nothing but some parole for a felon!

  151. The dorobo should be removed before the US election or before the next president of the US is inaugurated for I bet you she and her minions will try to take make use of that inauguration to justify the raping of the Philippine nation by her, her husband and their minions. She actually tried to legitimize her power grab by timing her own inauguration with the first inauguration of Bush.

In fact, it was criticized by the media in the US, etc. calling the crowd there as “a mob of elitish Filipinos against a president who had overwhelmingly been elected by the poor, and the coup led by the Dorobos a mockery of democracy.

Blog starts countdown to end of Arroyo term

Are we there yet? For Filipinos counting the days, hours, minutes, down to the last second until President Macapagal-Arroyo finishes her term, this blog’s for you.

“Ang Tagal Naman (It’s taking too long),” was launched by Roby Alampay, a Bangkok-based Filipino journalist and press freedom advocate, last December 1.

The blog site (http://angtagalnaman.blogspot.com) features a clock ticking off the days, hours, minutes, and seconds left till 12 noon of June 30, 2010, the end of Arroyo’s term.

US Ambassador Kenney, JDV and FVR? Manny Villar. Guest of honor in this annual event is GMA of course. Amb. Kenney did not even sent a representative and according to the report, she was with two US Senators visiting Mindanao. Si JDV naman hindi pinapunta ang asawang si Gina which he usually did in the past. Si FVR…well, this guy is unpredictable. Magkadikit ang dalawa…FVR and JDV. But what’s interesting is the US Ambassador and FVR’s absence. Has FVR now received the signal from Uncle Sam to dump GMA?

  158. klingon klingon

    Ellen:
Received a report that the cops are trying to flush out sympathetic media persons. There is no case at all. They are simply fishing. They will try to blame several reporters to discredit them while at the same time making sure that they will be scared enough never to try to help Capt. Faeldon.

  159. klingon klingon

This act also drives a wedge between the media and military dissenters. The cops will portray the men as “pahamak” to the journalists.

At the same time, the cops are expecting the media to start pointing fingers at each other. This way the cops will discover which reporters would have the potential to assist rebel soldiers.

  160. Brownberry Brownberry

Good point and info, klingon. Assuming without admitting that it was Ellen who assisted Faeldon, the PNP knows that it would not be possible without the help of other journalists and people. Si Ellen lang muna ang ginawang scapegoat. PNP is instilling fear on the media as if the media is afraid.

  161. Brownberry Brownberry

Speaking of persecution of media, not even the most feared of his time Marcos ever treated the media the way this GMA does today. Perhaps GMA has learned from the two former leaders’ tolerance of media that led to their downfall; so she now makes sure it doesn’t happen to her this time.

  162. klingon klingon

True, BB. But there is a way to counteract the PNP’s strategy by simply standing together and standing firm. No finger pointing, no turning on each other, and by continuing to support the likes of the Magdalo and Tanay groups, as well as the enlisted men who followed their honorable officers.

  163. J. Cruz J. Cruz

While Ms. Ellen T’s advocacy is laudable, equally, her personal safety should be our concerns as well.

I also notice and am concerned about Ellen’s silence lately. I hope you’re okay, Ellen. By the way, I notice that popular TV personality Pia Hontiveros has added a name to her last name “Pagkalinawan”. If the name is that of her husband’s, why is it only now being included.

  178. Happy eating, Rose. Baka matutong yung sinaing mo. It’s almost lunchtime.

  179. tongue,
What is really strange for me is the silence of our political leaders in the opposition? Why is it that only the media and elements of the military are taking up this fight?

  180. Brownberry Brownberry

Pagkalinawan. Still my question is why is it only now that his last name was added to Pia’s name on TV? May dahilan ba? If she doesn’t smile, she looks like suplada. Mahiyain lang siguro. Anyway, Pia sounds like she’s sympathetic to the opposition…kahit noon pa. She knows lots of things within PNP and AFP.

One year ang mga nandito pero ibang batch naman ang darating to take their place after one year. Tuloy-tuloy iyan. Hindi nila bibitawan ang Pilipinas at Mindanao. It’s no different when at one time Washington announced to the world that the many US soldiers in Iraq were returning home.
For instance, 1,000 troops returned home but another new 1,000 or more went to Iraq.

Nakakasuka! }:[

  183. Brownberry Brownberry

As I said earlier, it doesn’t matter if indeed it was Ellen who helped Faeldon. Eh ano? If I were her, I would have done the same. Let’s do away with legality and technicality. Sometimes, an act is viewed as wrong and illegal but the act is justified for the greater good.
What about Garci, Bolante, Bedol and other Malacanang boys who were assisted by Malacanang in their hiding and escape?

  185. Tulog muna ako. Sa Lunes na ulit. Gotta go to church today. Kailangang maging spiritually invigorated. Goodnight! Errrr, good morning na pala! Oyasumi nasai.

  186. jug,
At this point the politicians are playing watch and wait. When Malacañang starts telegraphing its punches, like these talks of another coup, anyone who takes the bait and sticks his neck out is likely to get knocked out cold. Rewind to May 2003, Aug 2003, and Feb 2006.

The Arroyo critics, well, the usual suspects, know this very well by now, but I agree with one blogger here who says only Pimentel and Lacson are perfectly consistent, coup or none, real or imagined. It is unfair to count AT4 out, though, since his peculiar situation doesn’t allow for free access to media but we can be sure he’s of the same mold.

The rest? Nah, they jump in only when everybody else is doing it.

  187. One more thing, may vacation hangover pa rin yung ibang opposition, malaki gastos nung Pasko, kumakayod muna sa kani-kaniyang negosyo. Kaya regarding Escudero and Cayetano, I don’t take it against them.

Vacation over. Back to the blogs! Wanted: A Better Scriptwriter…hmmm.

Welcome back, I have heard that the script writers for Mr Bean are getting very worried about the competition from the AFP & PNP.

  192. Kidding aside, I’m really very disappointed by our political leaders in the opposition. They, or at least one of them should have taken the cudgels re electoral fraud of GMA more aggressively (like in the Marcos days). The military for me is very limited in these matters as they can be gagged with EO464 and the articles of war (arrested, and maltreated even) the media can only do so much (but some of them are doing one hell of a job)- where are these leaders who promised so much? This battle is so lopsided really and nobody in the leadership pool seems to care enough to even the playing field.
What can OFWs, concerned bloggers, etc. do that can constitute any impact?
These are dark days indeed, the most we can do is help each other weather the storm, strengthen those who weaken and keep our eyes on the goal. I feel honored to be amongst people who are capable of caring for others, there’s not so many nowadays…

  193. Valdemar Valdemar

    Jug,
    You can say that again!
The time has come that all good men are shackled. And our only wish now is to find the right key. There are keys all right, some picklocks, many gridless, others toothless, but all helpless. But one thing very sure, it wont come from elsewhere. I got a rumour. Believe it or not, Esperon will save us from Glory. If other CofS turned around, why couldnt he. This would be the grandest splendor of heroism one can offer his detractors and unposthumously.

What kind of a person or an animal is that? He ate his own men!

He cheated for the DOROBO and to cover up for it he whitewashed the Mayuga report and put the Tanay Boys in jail. Can we still trust this man?

Even in the last days of his term, nagpapakulo pa ng “coup” kuno by using five enlisted men (only one active) with only three rusty guns. Nakakagigil talaga.

I would probably trust the incoming Chief of Staff whoever he would be! Purge all the “Garci Generals” first to purify the AFP. Sobra ng lason si asspweron sa AFP. He needs to go. We need a new blood to lead the AFP.

  195. Valdemar does have a point there, BUT something was lost somewhere in translation.

I’ve also heard that Esperon is planning a coup. In fact, we’ve been saying that all along: Esperon will stage a fake coup to ensure he is extended.

  196. wwnl,
Thanks, bro. I took a short vacation in the “Last Frontier” to recharge my batteries. Though swimming in the company of sharks at 45 ft may be stressful, the beauty of sealife does provide a respite from the predators we live with in the concrete jungles.

As for Esperon, etal, giving Mr. Bean’s scriptwriters a run for their money, well, I’m all for it. Brains not needed anyways.

After all, it’s a silent movie, isn’t it?

  197. Huwag ninyong insultuhin si Mr. Bean. Hey, Oxford U grad iyan! I don’t find him funny, though.

Tapos may mga dating Japayuki dito trying hard to teach broken English, too, to Japanese! Nangkupo!

  198. Tongue,

Where’s the last frontier? Palawan? Swimming at 45 feet deep? How I envy you!!!

Talk na lang ba na talk? Kailan tayo mag-EDSA? Kailangan magplanong mabuti.

  200. Anna,

Korek ka diyan. Parang survival camp yung trip namin. All we had in the boat was fishing gear, bottled water, a few canned food (baka walang mahuli, heheh), medicines (mosquito repellant is a must), no cellphones, no liquor, no gadgets (1 camera tough was sneaked by one lady), a few tents (we avoided the resorts). All the food have to be gathered, fished or hunted.

Matipid na, exciting pa because of the challenge of the possibility of not having anything to eat. But that was easy, lobsters and big fish nga pinagsawaan na e. Palawan pa. Maraming islands na pagpipilian to pitch your tents. We chose one between N. Palawan and Mindoro and another near El Nido. I suggest you try it sometimes. My friends are looking to turn it into a business thing. I’m sure, the diving or snorkeling alone would be worth every cent. Natakot lang kami nung tabihan kami ng boat with armed men in civilian clothes. Turned out, mga sundalo pala, bakit hindi naka uniform?

Anyways, we are planning another one in summer. Sarap!

Naka alis na ba si gory?
Tongue:What a life indeed! there are so many beautiful places in the Phil..sayang nga lang hindi affordable sa karamihan ang magbakasyon and enjoy nature’s beauty..at kung galing naman dito and can afford naman takot umuwi..lalo na ngayon may warning sa mga travellers..

  202. Tongue,

Wow, wow, wow! “But that was easy, lobsters and big fish nga pinagsawaan na e.” My kind of holiday… Must call you one day for tips on where to go when we decide to do that. The children would love it!!!!

My 16 year old son who climbed Mt Kinabalu last August would go anytime….

  203. Tongue,

Re “Natakot lang kami nung tabihan kami ng boat with armed men in civilian clothes. ” Baka hindi tunay na sundalo?

Anyway, if we go on that kind of holiday, I will have no option but to hire or “borrow” security for my peace of mind (for my kids).

Last time we went on a holiday like that in Pinas (1999), I was able to borrow security from SWAG — kids were real toddlers at the time — but don’t know if I can this time around.
