Why Esperon has to stay

Gloria Arroyo’s justification for the extension of the service of her favorite AFP Chief Hermogenes Esperon won’t pass even with those with brains filled with gunpowder.

According to Malacañang’s press release, Arroyo extended Esperon’s term for three months (up to May 9) to “sustain the government’s ongoing campaign to finally end rebel insurgency in the country.”

“Because there is a momentum in the campaign against the NPA (New People’s Army) and they are expecting a snowball in the next several months,” Arroyo said.

Oh well, if she makes a mockery of the Constitution, what’s surprising with her insulting people with such stupid justification? The biggest insult, of course is on Lt. Gen. Alexander Yano, the announced successor of Esperon. That means he is not trusted to do what Esperon has to do which is to “”sustain the government’s ongoing campaign to finally end rebel insurgency in the country.”

Esperon’s extension of services simply confirms Arroyo’s dependence on him for her continued hold on power in the same way that he made himself valuable to her in the “Hello Garci” operations in the 2004 election.

Arroyo has to extend Esperon because she is not sure if Yano would be willing to debase the law, blatantly if need be, to destroy military officials who dare question her illegitimate presidency.

Esperon had convinced Arroyo that the destabilization threats against her are being orchestrated by the detained officers in Camp Capinpin. Never mind that so far, he has only come up with five enlisted Scout Rangers with three rusty firearms. Two of the arrested soldiers have been released after the preliminary investigation conducted by the Department of Justice found the charge of illegal possession of firearms baseless.

The court martial hearings against Maj. Gen. Renato Miranda, Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim and 26 other officers have not moved forward since November 9, 2007 when the court tried to shortcut the process by taking their oath despite the fact that one young officer, Lt. Homer Estolas, had not availed of his right to peremptory challenge.

Under the rules of the court martial, the members of the court are to organize themselves starting with taking their oath “after the proceedings as to challenges are concluded.” The court headed by Maj. Gen. Jogy Fojas failed to call Estolas despite the young officer’s raising his hand calling their attention in an earlier hearing.

Since then, the court had tried proceeding with the arraignment to the vehement opposition of the defense.

February 2008 is crucial for the court trial of the 28 officers charged for mutiny and conduct becoming of an officer and a gentleman in connection with the alleged plan to withdraw support from Arroyo in February 2006 following the exposé of military involvement in the cheating in the 2004 elections in favor of Arroyo.

If the officers are not arraigned by next month (two years after the alleged offense is committed), the charge of “conduct unbecoming of an officer and a gentleman” would prescribe. Only the charge of mutiny would be left.

However, in the pre-trial investigation report (PTIR) of the incident, it was recommended that the charge of mutiny be dismissed for lack of factual and legal basis. This was overturned by a pre-trial advice, an equivalent of a charge sheet in a civil court, which is being questioned by lawyers because it has not been signed by Esperon.

The prosecution panel has tried to make up for its lack of competence by attempting to change the rules of the court like asking the court to allow only one lawyer for the accused (some accused have more than one lawyer) to speak and that if the motion of the lawyer of one accused officer is being taken up, lawyers of other accused would not be allowed to speak.

Fortunately, both unthinkable motions were denied because as the defense argued, the charge is conspiracy to commit mutiny and the court decision on one affects all the accused.

The latest tack of the prosecution is now to arraign by batches which has been approved by the court. Major Emilio Felicen, court spokesman, announced last week that only eight officers would be arraigned tomorrow in Camp Aguinaldo. He cited the accused “being unruly” as the reason for the unusual setup. He did not say what those “unruly” acts were,

Defense lawyers said they will not agree to an arraignment by batches insisting that all the accused have a right to be present in all the hearings. The manual on courts martial states that “the presence of the accused throughout the proceedings in open court is essential.”

Essential means “necessary, indispensable, fundamental, vital and cardinal.”

The latest development is that the officers, 26 of them detained in Camp Capinpin (General Lim is detained in Camp Crame together with Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV and Magdalo officers involved in the Nov. 29 incident Capt. Dante Langkit is being held at the ISG compound in Fort Bonifacio) have been informed that they will be transferred to the ISAFP (Intelligence Service) compound in Camp Aguinaldo.

When Arroyo said that the extension of Esperon has nothing to do with the restiveness in the military, she was, as usual, lying.

Once again, they are using the insurgency, the Communist and Muslim rebels as alibi to prolong the stay of these corrupt Generals. Why not tell the truth that the reason is to fight against the opposition, the political foes, the media? Between now and May would be the most crucial. This is the season of ousting leaders.

It’s time to forgive and show our mercy to all our fellow Filiponos, once and for all!

Learn a lesson from Vietnam War. Million tons of bombs did not deter the Viet Cong and NVA from rolling over a discredited regime. It’s just a hollow rhetoric coming from disgraced AFP chief. Esperon should go to battlefront and lead the anti-insurgency campaign. Let’s see if how he can destroy 15 CPP-NPA fronts in three months timeframe. Wake up Esperon! Your grandeur fantasy is over.

  5. vic vic

GMA justification for Esperon Extension is the NPA reason for jubilation..meaning three months from now, when finally she runs out of “justification” the campaign against them will also stop as only and only Esperon is capable of defeating the NPAs, according to The Gospel of PGMA…my brother’s 3 mos. old grand daughter can give a better excuse than that, she just cry and mom will give in..

  6. Brownberry Brownberry

Ka Diego is correct. Not even tons of bombs could prevent the Vietcong from beating the Americans. Needless to say, America lost that Vietnam War…and is losing this Iraq War too. At present, the US is finding ways to make a graceful exit from Iraq.

  7. rose rose

In three months time he will crush the NPA problem? Broken head talaga!
..The captain and the lieutenant in the off broadway play I saw last night (The Widows) are the images of Esperon and his reign of terror…36 women villagers waiting for their missing men day and night..and all of them claiming the bodies to be that of their loved ones, that were washed into them by the current of the river..it ended with the military vs the women..and naging bloody..kanito ang mangyayari..I hope not…

  8. rose rose

Esperon stays because FVR told Gori to let Esperon stay..Didn’t FVR ask her to leave JdV alone as well?..ang gusto ni FVR ay mag cha cha sila ni JdV..kaya ang sabi naman ni Gori at Esperon sa mga tao..tango kayo..kaya ang mga tao nag boogie woogie…

  9. Brownberry Brownberry

So Rose, you just confirmed what many are saying…that the person behind the fake power in Malacanang is FVR. Since both JDV and Esperon are closely identified with FVR, then we could conclude that FVR had something to do with the latest development involving the two.

  10. Brownberry Brownberry

Where can you find and see the one whose term was extended defending himself? Dahil sa mga batikos mula sa kaliwa’t kanan, ipinagtatanggol ni Esperon ang sarili niya by insisting GMA made the right decision in extending his term.

  12. rose rose

BNG: yon ang matik matik ko..(mathematics ko) and I drew my conclusions in what I read..I had a high regard of FVR but now I asked what has he really done to the country? I understand he had a hand in selling Fort Bonifacio..which is now an expensive residential area..Fort City pa and within Makati City..(a city inside a city). Did the country benefit from the sale? Nasaan nagpunta ang proceeds? kaninong bulsa? To borrow the words of Bedol..”they were stolen”? mukhang maraming magicians na naghocus-pocus..

Maybe we should limit the president’s prerogatives the next time we repeal our constittution.
Rose, Tabako has a lot of businesses going on. Some came from questionable origin(Mafia style) and were legitimized na lang later. He has to support any incoming president kasi marami yang kababalaghan during his time. Now I am even wondering if he was behind the numerous coup attempts on Cory. This man can not be trusted.Tama nga si Macoy in judging him! Namamangka palagi sa dalawang ilog( even in his love life he can not make a firm stand!).
Tabako needs asspweron for his sinister plan of forcing the DOROBO to push the charter change anew or even a martial law to keep her in power as the Tabako can manipulate her that easy-konting press lang, tampo tampo at nag-give in na si DOROBO.
Asspweron may be right when he says that the next three months will be very bloody as the Tabako will try his luck to have JDV push with the charter change again and this may enrage the people and thus a martial law may be in place so they can buy time and force the charter change. Asspweron’s the key component in Tabako’s wanting to be a Prime Minister pa at his age!

  14. parasabayan parasabayan

The toothless Melo already proved his worth to the DOROBO when he did not implicate the DOROBO in the probe of the extra-judicial killings. Kung baga, ala-Mayuga siya doon. He whitewashed the report so the DOROBO will not be implicated.

  15. Brownberry Brownberry

By not implicating GMA in the Melo Report, this Melo was rewarded with the Comelec Chairman position. That has been the practice of this GMA. Punishing those who went against her and rewarding those who protected her.

  16. You bet, Ellen, just who are these crooks kidding? The communist insurgency has been going on since I can remember, and unless they recognize the problems and issues they are fighting for, and not give them credit for wat they have done so far to bring to the attention of many the plight of the aggrieved like the farmers/tenants who are practically slaves in what they call democratic Philippines.

Unless Gloria Dorobo and her fellow robbers and thieves do not step down, no extension of Esperon will ever be able to solve the surmounting problems of the Philippines that these crooks themselves have created and born by the people of the Philippines.

Kung si Magsaysay nga who had a more humane approach/solution to the HUK problem hind nagtagumpay, ito pang mga berdugo ni Gloria Dorobo y Mandurugas? Puede ba huwag na silang manloko? Puede ba, bumaba na lang silang lahat?

  17. I am no Communist, but I’ve worked with a lot of them in Japan where they are given in fact the opportunity to prove themselves useful, and they do. Over here, the Communist Party is duly recognized and participates in the running of our government. I don’t support the Communist Party. I support the Socialist Party of Japan. They are two and different parties upholding two different though similar ideologies as similar to democracy as far as their concern for public welfare and interest is concerned.

    Insurgency, my ass!

  18. …for whatthey have done so far…

  19. There goes another traitor Enrile…Many senators are against Esperon’s extension, and here comes this Enrile defending it. Enrile echoed FVR’s first opinion in favor of Esperon. The two share the same mind…both who betrayed Marcos in 1986. Please read:

Give him a break, Enrile says of Esperon’s term extension

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile Sunday urged those critical of the extension of the term of Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Hermogenes Esperon Jr. to give him a break because he had proved himself a “very capable officer.”

Bwahahahahaha!

  24. Brownberry Brownberry

Sorry Grizzy, hindi ako puwedeng tumahimik dito kay Enrile who everyone remembers to have faked his own ambush.

Well, they better show us the proof that it’s the host that paid for the hotel bills. At bakit ngayon lang nagpaliwanag nitong si Bunye…almost a week after they enjoyed staying in the world’s most expensive hotel?

Please read:

Arroyo didn’t spend a dime at world’s best hotel — Bunye

DUBAI (via PLDT) — While it was a brief visit, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo caused a stir among the press here over her stay at the luxurious Burj al-Arab hotel.

The President’s stay at one of the most expensive hotels in the world was the subject of talk among Dubai-based journalists even before she and her delegation arrived here Saturday night from Switzerland.

It was the buzz when Arroyo showed up at the Mina Al-Salam hotel for her luncheon meeting with the leaders of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye was quick to dispel the notion the Philippine government had paid for the President’s stay at the seven-star hotel, which prides itself on being the world’s best.

“She’s the guest of the emir. So if you’re a guest of the emir…,” Bunye told reporters, indicating that Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum had paid the bill.

Why more bloody, not combat?!

This Ass knows that he can’t eliminate the reds in his lifetime, pinasasakay lang niya ng husto si Gloria who has nothing in her fucking shithead but to survive and rule beyond 2010!

  52. chi chi

Imagine, si Joma ay nagpapasarap sa The Hague, iyong mga ibang lider naman are now in Tongress making as much as those korap tradpols. I have a source in tongress handling finances…pareho na lang daw ang mga kaliweteng reps sa mga tradpols pagdating sa pera…tago nga lang sila!

  53. chi chi

And I don’t mean in terms of legal salary ha!

  54. chi,
Hindi mo makalimutan iyang “Divide and Rule”. Ako, kelanman, hindi ko makakalimutan, “Davide and Raul” (gnashing of teeth).

  55. Ellen,
(“Next four months bloody”)

  56. E-mail from Wyl:

The real reason for Mr. Espe’s extension was to finish the court martial and not to finish the NPA campaign. Yano should not be brainless to see the ploy and gave them the rope to hang themselves.

  57. parasabayan parasabayan

Ellen, I saw that angle from the very beginning. Kaya nga in the last hearings eh minamadali nila ang proseso but the panel was doing it all wrong! They are doing a short cut on the hearings. To destroy the future of these officers is tantamount to killing them! This is probably what the asspweron meant when he said “it will be bloody” in the next 3 months.

  58. Mrivera Mrivera

on gloria’s reason in extending esPWEron’s term:

    BULOK!

    bulok!

    BULOK!

  59. Mrivera Mrivera

    yessssss!!

after a thousand times of failure, nakapasok din sa bahay!

    yeheeeeeey!!!

  60. Golberg Golberg

Tanggalin mo yung shoulder boards niyan tapos may kasamang sampal, iiyak yan. Mag labas-pasok pa uhog niyan sa ilong.

  61. Magno:

Nadali din ako ng Akismet ni Ellen. Pinalitan ko na lang ang profile ko. Feeling Westend (Broadway ng London) tuloy ako. But anyway, buti nakapasok ka.

  62. Welcome again, MR.

Akismet does its job well against spams. Sumusobra lang.

  63. Valdemar Valdemar

Bunye must be telling the truth that their hotel bill was shouldered by the host. Normally we also pay for the same whenever we have official guests here. That includes the sweet young things we are noted for. Only in the US they dont subsidize those. Remember that story about the next morning a Philippine president together with the wife walked idly around. They met the brood of last night and she sneered at him and howled, ‘…see what you get for 10 dollars!’ pointing at the woman by his side.

Ellen, forgive me of the poor taste but you may slash out the rest after the word remember above. Thanks.

  64. Mrivera Mrivera

    baka may oberhang pa.

  69. chi chi

    Mrivera,

    Extended vacation si Cocoy ha!

Anyway, heto at ang balita “AFP dismisses February coup rumors”-abs-cbnnews.com

Sus, gumagawa na naman ng tsismis for 2nd installment of the Ass’ extension!

  70. Zardux Zardux

You hit them when you quoted de gaulle’s “Military professionalism.”

“For a while we had to work with Gen. Esperon and Gen. Kyamko, we had to replace Gen.

  72. Brownberry Brownberry

Ano kaya ang relation ni Gen. Gudani sa Mayor ng New York, one of the Republican candidates? Di ba iyong Mayor Gudani?
