Itong Semana Santa, ang malaking hamon sa mga Katoliko sa Pilipinas ay kung paano mapanatili ang paggalang sa mga namumuno sa simbahan kung sila mismo ay lumalabag sa kanilang tinuturo na pahalagaan ang katotohanan at ang mga utos ng Panginoon.
Katulad na lamang nitong si Cardinal Ricardo Vidal, arsobispo ng Cebu, na piangbawalan raw ang mga pari sa ilalim niya na magmisa sa “Misa para sa Katotohanan” na dadaluhan ni Rodolfo Noel “Jun” Lozada sa University of San Carlos.
Sabi ni Sr. Estrella Castalone, executive secretary ng Association of Major Religious Superiors in the Philippines (AMRSP), na siyang nagpu-protekta kay Lozada na ang pagbabawal ay ipina-alam sa kanila ng kanilang organizaer sa Cebu na si Judy Adriano.
Nainis kasi si Vidal na ginagawa raw si Lozada na bayani. Alam na raw ng mga Cebuano ang tungkol sa isyu ng NBN/ZTE kaya hindi na raw kailangan pumunta sa Cebu si Lozada.
Despalinghado pala mag-isip itong Cardinal na ito. Hindi ginagawang bayani si Lozada. Hinhangaan lang siya ng taumbayan dahil pinili niyang magsabi ng totoo kahit siya ay tinatakot ng mga kaibigan ng Cardinal sa Malacañang.
Naiinis si Vidal kay Lozada ngunit hindi siya naiinis sa pagsisinungaling at panggigipit nina Gloria Arroyo na kanyang pinu-protektahan ngayon? Anong klaseng alagad ng Diyos siya?
Kaya ba ayaw na makinig si Vidal tungkol sa NBN/ZTE dahil masakit pakinggan ang katotohanan? Kung sa sarili niya, minabubuti niyang maging bingi at bulag sa katotohanan, bakit isinasama niya ang taumbayan?Ito ba ang turo ng Panginoon?
Sabi ni Sr. Estrella kung walang pareng magmisa, magkaroon na lang sila ng forum. Tama yan, maari namang ipagpatuloy ng taumbayan ang paghanap ng katotohanan na hindi kasama ang mga pari. Hidi naman nila pag-aari ang katotohanan.
Walang pinag-iba si Vidal kay Raul Gonzalez, ang justice secretary ni Gloria Arroyo na walang ginawa kungdi ang balukturin ang hustisya. Sabi ni Gonzalez hindi raw welcome si Lozada sa Iloilo.
Anong nangyari? Mainit na tinanggap ng mga taga-Iloilo si Lozada at ang kanyang mensahe na maghanap ng katotohanan.
Sa itinuring ni Vidal, hindi na ako nagtataka kung bakit malabo ang pastoral letter ng inilabas ng CBCP (Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines) kahit may mga paring matino katulad ni Archbishops Angel Lagdameo, Oscar Cruz, Nicanor Yñiguez, at iba pa.
Sa kanilang pastoral letter na binasa noong Linggo sa lahat na simbahan, sinabi nilang masama ang magnakaw ngunit ayaw naman nilang tanggalin sa Malacañang ang numero unong magnanakaw. Ano yan?

As if the Cardinal’s refusal to say Mass for Jun Lozada in Cebu is not enough, here comes another Bishop in Bicol, home province of Lozada, who also refuses to say Mass for him. The same treatment would have been accorded to Lozada if he were to go to Mindanao where the gang of Bishops are pro-Malacanang. If Cardinal Rosales in Manila has his way, I think he would have also ordered the priests in Manila not to say Mass for Lozada. What’s going on with these Bishops and Priests during this Lenten Season when every Catholic has the right to repent, ask for forgiveness and guidance? I think it’s no longer envelopes that are being distributed by Malacanang…maybe boxes delivered to CBCP.

I think to avoid a major confrontations among religeous leadership in thier sector,best solution for that,this only a suggestion,bring along the priest to officiates holy masses and a roving altar,which provide more conviniencies for the people want to attend/listened about searching for truth.Any messengers of our lord,doesn’t have authority to defied any individual to listen what kind of news he/she had to listen to.SOME of these SHEPERDS thinks once they been elevated to thier current positions are better than the LORD,these personalities more lower than the lowest form of animals,pretending to be holy.
What can you expect from “worldly” priests?
I grew up in Cebu studied under SVD priests (a disappointment) and I tell you guys these priests are far from living in simplicity. Ask them if they still have those women who wait on them hand and foot (with massage) and check out Vidal’s spokesperson’s background – Dacay. One time he drove around Cebu in a red convertible Mercedes and his daughters mind you are very pretty “mestizas.” Sickening, really sickening…but what can you expect? they think they’re royalty…
This Dacay fancied himself as that good looking priest in “Thornbirds.” Now thats the type of priests vidal surrounds himself with and Gloria sees their weakness – worldliness and she has what it takes to keep their loyalty…

gusa77, your idea of a revolving altar is great…he, he. A Priest can go around the city or other places with a revolving altar ready to officiate Mass if needed. So, if there are places that don’t allow to say Mass for Lozada, then this revolving priest can do the job. But what happens to the collection? For security reason, we need to be concerned with the money collected. It’s risky to be carrying money while going around…unless there’s a revolving bank too.

Tell you what, Jug. My father was happiest when I changed my religion when I was 17. He was worried about my joining so many Catholic groups and getting too close to those priests. Years later he told me of his apprehension and how he had seen a lot many sleeping with hookers, and why he was never a practicing Catholic even when he was likewise baptized there as an infant because of his Catholic mother, my grandmother, whom I had since baptized by proxy for the dead.
I am glad I did as a matter of fact. Otherwise, I would have been one of those blinded followers being forced to follow irrational rules, even frightened about going to hell and being pushed to stumble instead of being able to know the one true God, who loves us all.

I caught the news where Cardinal Vidal himself is saying that he did not prevent any priests from saying mass for Jun Lozada. Could it be possible that there is indeed a rogue in the Cardinal’s side that is pro-Gloria & took the opportunity to, once again, divide-&-conquer ? Or could it be that Gloria saw an opportunity to deflect the issues away from her ?
I still believe Vidal is pro-opposition. He’s very much pro-Erap. Your theory of “divide and conquer”, Chabeli, is possible. But, Vidal can also lie just like other bishops. Bishops and Priests are now known for telling lies…whether they learn this from Malacanang or vice versa, I don’t know.

Just an example: if you request for a high mass mas malaki ang suggested donation kay sa ordinary mass na ten dollars lang..mag malakas ka sa simbahan at lagi kang nagreregalo..madali kumuha ng pari para mag misa sa bahay mo..though dito they don’t allow masses in houses..Pilipinos lang ang mahilig..bawal din ang mag misa sa funeral homes..pero nakakalusot din sa ilang Pilipino priests..Kaya dito sa US buhay na buhay ang business ng mga Filipino priests..kasi madalas may extra income..tatlo o apat magmisa sa isang linggo.

Good on you and your father; I say well done!
Firstly, I would like to stress a point that I think is highly pertinent here: NOT all followers of the Catholic religion are blinded by priests and the clegy in general; there are those whose faith are guided by a stronger belief in Christ and not in priests. It is unfortunate that you knew of Catholic priests who slept with hookers but you see, it is my firm conviction that they do not represent the entire community of Catholics.
Moreover, allow me to catch your saintly attention to a fact: I personally am not one of those you tag as “blind followers” and I am sure there are many posters in Ellen’s blog who do not belong to that category you despise so. So, easy now on categorizing all Catholics –– it is really neither fair nor just to do that.
The Mormon religion of which you are a member may strive for perfection — and I say well and good (at least you are assured of a place in heaven) — and perhaps, Mormons are indeed far more superior to Catholics on all aspects of spirituality which we here, the unfortunate Catholic souls can only envy you for.
In fine, while I am prepared to castigate an individual belonging to a different religion or fatith from mine, one thing I can say, no matter my reservation towards a different religion, mine, others’, eg., Mormons, Iglesia ni Kristo, Protestants, Muslims, etc., I would never ever stoop down to the level of the scumbag to denigrate the general faith of my fellow human being.

Growing up with priests like Dakay et al, my first taste for alcohol was in the church, Mompo as anyone who became an altar boy can relate.
True, this experience pushed me to leave the catholic faith and join the MMCC (metro manila christian church) chapter in Cebu. But after a while, years actually, I realized it wasn’t the fault of the catholic faith but only by handful. I am now in the process of renewing my Catholic faith, going to church on Sundays albeit inconsistently but I’m still struggling with it.
After all these years of wandering about, going with born again christians, iglesia, mormons, jehova’s witness – I am coming home to the faith of my birth…and no one will stop me, not those misguided men in robes…

Why stay in a religion that restrict our God-given gift of love, that teaches only about the fires of hell, and yet fail to prevent their followers to be holy and not go to hell instead of encouraging them to have more love and compassion for one another.
I don’t think it is looking down on this religion but being more factual as when the truth is God has admonished us to seek Him and the truth, His true Gospel, not be stuck in a religion that does not even encourage to read the Scriptures even when it is a fact that the Holy Ghost is there to teach and lead the truth seekers to the right path to the truth.
I did as a matter of fact, and gained a testimony of this Gospel truth. I search for God in the Scriptures, and reason I guess why I found the discussions I had with our elders (missionaries) very easy to understand and digest.
God loves us all, and it is not true that one who seeks for the truth can be at all be misled. It is more the motivation I guess that one is led astray even by the Adversary who competes with the Lord above. To be perfect is not in fact a sin. Matthew 5:48 says, “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” Take it or leave it, we have the free agency to choose.

A long time ago, I used to attend mass every Wednesday in the University of San Carlos chapel with someone I was going out with, actually because this someone dragged me to them. We had this priest there who looked okay, gave nice sermons, etc. One afternoon after mass, I was surprised when the girl I was with approached this priest after mass, pulled out a gift from her bag and gave it to him. I asked her if it was his birthday, it wasn’t, it was a “just because” gift. After that I stopped seeing this girl and going to mass. It was a shame, she being Miss University later on that year but at least I recovered my peace of mind after that.

Anna has a point there. Its a personal relationship with God. If we mind what others are saying, we’ll be misled, or worst, we can be divided. Religion, as history will point out, is a great divider.
Fortunately for us, the “golden rule” – do unto others, is universal, and much of the teachings in all churches. “Tolerance” is common to all I believe, and peace is even more…

You may rant against Cardinal Vidal and some of the bishops who work with him but under no circumstances do you have the monopoly of sainthood — there are other members of the Catholic faith (perhaps not me as I cannot and never will pretend to have the same perfection, nor the same goodness or the same gentleness as you, not ever!) who subscribe just like you to the teachings of Christ.
What is faith? Christians and others keep saying about “Faith”. If there are false teachings and beliefs, there’s false faith. The Bible teaches that there are ways appear to be onto salvation but actually to destruction. In the latter days, false prophets will arise deceiving people. Those who profess to believe in God and Christ are not necessarily of God. Even the Devil believes in God and trembles…

Jug: we used to discuss among ourselves which school has the higher academic excellence..STC or UP? I didn’g go to UP so I don’t know..My late sister went to both so it really didn’t matter to her..Just as Ateneo has their arneoo accent STC has their own airs..and so do schools like Assumption..We did have good teachers..Belgian nuns and they instilled in us..academic excellence, confidence, sensitivity to the needs of others that really became second nature to us..we did have a good curriculum..a well rounded education so to speak..Bisaya ako, sa English you can’t tell I am one but sa Tagalog..”titsir, titsir dey are tising me.”

Also, some women who are devoted Catholics look at Priests as “Christ”. Since Priests represent Christ, the women seem to worship the Priests. That leads to anything including forbidden romance. In the US, millions of dollars are spent to pay for the settlement of sex crimes committed by the Priests. Those came from donations, the hard earned money of the Catholic members.
If there’s any Catholic congregation that’s fairly apolitical, I’d say it’s the SDB. I grew up with their brothers and priests, mostly Italians and Germans, who are focused on making young boys busy to prevent their minds from being “workshops of the devil.”
These guys are the coolest (I may be biased) but a brother who was my 3rd-year Religion teacher frequently went with us on our Saturday mall trips and even helped pick up girls for us (yes, Rose, Jug, Assumptionistas, Scholasticans and Theresians – before the STC campus was sold to Adamson) heheh). I guess the white collar piece they wore gave the girls the idea that we were totally harmless. Before calling it a day, we hold our confessions right there in Glorietta or Quad Carpark (now Park Square) while walking around. That is the reason he goes to all these troubles, so that we can make our confessions later. That made us close friends.
When he became a priest, we attended the ceremonies – several hours of High Mass (in Latin!) and my band later played the songs for his first mass in Pampanga. He later became the PTV-4 televised mass celebrant and he complained to us he felt stupid because he was the only person there aside from the tv crew of course and the rest of the audience as we saw it at home, were pre-recorded. He left the Salesian Order later because he wanted to do more for “politics” but the Salesians were not sold to the idea.
That’s why I was surprised when our high school campus became staging ground for the marches during the last rally in Makati.

Temptation does not discriminate between laity and the religious. And priests, yes, even bishops, can be as gullible as we are and suckered into believing a liar such as Gloria Arroyo. That much I can forgive.

Tongue: My two younger brothers were graduates of Don Bosco..contemporary ng isa si Honasan..at kaklase niya itong si Dante Madriaga sa high school which was Don Bosco sa Mandaluyong and later sa UP sa college of engineering..To me, when a priests wear their Roman collar or their cassock it reminds us all to keep a distance (particularly for women) and respect their priesthood. Ang problema lang since Vatican 2 when they were allowed to wear the ordinary clothes (lalo na sa mga madre) I think they went over board..The religious orders like Franciscans, Benedictines, seem to be more proper..para bang mga cattles na nakawala sa corral..and I guess with the world we have today..it must be hard for them to “behave”..I am not much of “the devotional” type of catholic but I have heard it mentioned sa messages of the Blessed Mother to pray particularly for the priests..sa Holy Rosary where I used to work we do have the Cenacle Group..the Marian Priest Movement ata ang tawag nila.. I understand it is also done in the Phil. as I met some of the organizers..Our relationship with God (who ever He is to each of us) is a personal matter that each one of us should respect..after all we all believe in the same God..some may not accept Jesus as God..or Divine but that is their thing..As I grow in my Spiritual Journey, I focus more on in things common and don’t argue on the differences..dialague

But there will always be more priests who will say mass even if there is just one sinner attending the mass. It is the duty of the church to serve all sorts of devotees. Sinner or saint, anybody is entitled to the church services.
No matter how Vidal justifies his innocence in preventing any Cebu priest from officiating a mass for Lozada, the truth somehow finds its way out.

Its a struggle really but such is life. Myself, I tried looking for other churches, but eventually I have to return to the faith that will allow me to be with my parents, my wife, and children. I remember when I was a kid, my parents took us to church every Sunday, kumpleto kami, I looked at them sing the songs, pray together, the cotton candy after or popcorn, the balloons, etc. I want my children to experience that also.
Gloria’s really done it this time, lahat na lang gagamitin, pati mga pari. The priests mentioned Vidal and Dakay, are noticeably materialistic priests, as I said, I grew up with such characters. Our (bogus)president knows too well how to capitalize on these weaknesses.

I feast on the Words of God rather than rely on the precepts of men. I don’t think I can be misled by anyone pretending to be holy if I listen carefully to the Holy Ghost, whose Gift I have received when I accepted Christ as my Saviour as did members of our church when they were baptized and confirmed as members of Christ’s Church.
In fact, Christ warned His disciples to be careful not to be deceived by false prophets, et al. and take heed not to be deceived as when people change Christ’s admonition to pray only to the Father in His Name, not to many saints who must have committed sins as a lot many of us do and have their own selves to ask the Lord above to save.
“And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. • • • For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.” (Matt 24: 11, 24)
I don’t know how and why these Gospel truths should be taken as offensive.
Why Gospel truths taken as offensive? Because truth hurts…and people want to hear those that are only itchy to their ears. For this reason, many Pastors instead of preaching the true Gospel teach a different one to please their audience.

INC calls us as self-proclaimed Christians. INC srongly believes that church is necessary for salvation. Her argument is based on the biblical teaching that the Christ is the Head and His Body is the Church. Hence, one must belong to His Body to be saved. INC further states (according to the Bible) that Christ loves the church so much that He died for it (church). If the church is not important, such teachings would not have been written in the Bible. Of course I’m sure you and me, all of us have our side of argument. As for relationship with the Lord, that rebukes the Catholic Church’s teaching that the Priest is the mediator to God since the Priest represents Christ on earth. This is where I don’t agree. The Bible clearly teaches that Christ is the only Mediator between men and God. So, why confess our sins to humans like priests?
FYI, the Pope of Vatican is visiting the Philippines next month. Let’s hope he is directly informed of the wrongdoings by some of our corrupt bishops. However, I’m sure Malacanang together with CBCP and other pro-Arroyo bishops will keep the Pope away from the opposition and the people. They will hide the truth from the Pope.

I would be much happier to have the Filipinos to forget about the church. Or any church for that matter. They are not helping us any. Besides, they use the wrong bibles. All want the truth since time immemorial and still looking until now. I dont think that nurse or your AA1025 has anything to do with Gloria.
There is no wrong bible. It’s the wrong interpretation that’s the problem. Many religions and preachers twist the words of God to suit their own doctrines. There lies the danger…
Bitchevil, somehow ang in a way what you wrote is true (actually, really true). Twisting the words of God to suit their own doctrines is the name of the game for the entire protestant religion. If you say that your bible only consists of 67 books, you have an incomplete canon of the original text, even if the translation in not twisted. The Jews did something stupid just to get rid of Jesus Christ which is also what the Protestants did. Tydale’s version, Wycliffe version and Coverdale’s version are not just wrong, they lack the original canon text. The Catholic Church admits that they were burned because of omissions and mistralations from the orginal text. 67 is not the original number of books of the bible. What Valdemar said above is also true. Far worst is, if the bible which is already lacking the original text is also mistranslated. Do you have 67 books?

Kaya kung meron kang 62 books of the bible (Old and New testament) what you have is a wrong bible not just on its text but on the number of books compile into one. Do you have 62 books?

Even if you have 67 books, that is still wrong aside from having errors on its text.
