Grasping at (foreign) straws

Gloria Arroyo is leaving abroad this weekend, a source in Malacañang said.

She declined to tell me the destination but it couldn’t be to the United States because her next trip there will be next month. Arroyo is scheduled to leave for New York Sept. 22 to attend the United Nations General Assembly and the Clinton Global Initiative conference.

I’m told she will also be going to Seattle to attend a Fil-Am activity.

It is expected that Arroyo will again be accompanied by her usual coterie of junketing congressmen paid for by Filipino taxpayers. At this time economic difficulties and with the uneasy situation in Mindanao, another transatlantic trip for Arroyo reflects callousness.

It was only two months ago when she, accompanied by 65 congressmen, went to the U.S to meet with President George Bush while thousands of Filipinos were being battered by typhoon Frank.
A source in Malacañang said they are also at a loss trying to understand Arroyo’s decisions these days. It looks like she is disassembling.

The embarrassing part about it is she is doing it international. Last Monday, she announced that she will enlist the help of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair in the peace talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

I’m reminded of her plan in 2001 to hire former New York Rudolph Guiliani as presidential adviser on peace process. Guiliani was a recent visitor and nothing was mentioned about it.

I presume she has talked to Blair, who played an important role in bringing peace in Northern Ireland, because she was quoted to have said the former British prime minister “ is willing to come help us.”

Blair’s willingness to help, however, is not for free. His advisory fee is reported to be at least $1 million.

Her ally, Sen. Joker Arroyo, calls her plan “injudicious” which means “lacking or showing a lack of judgment or discretion; unwise.”

He correctly pointed out the folly of Arroyo’s idea: the conflict in Mindanao is a “geographical dispute”, not a religious war which was the case in Northern Ireland.

“The Mindanao conflict is not between Protestant and Catholics – both Christian as in Northern Ireland,” the senator said.

Arroyo is not only reaching out to far away United Kingdom. Reports said she has also enlisted the help of Sweden, which drew up the Stockholm initiative on Disarmament, Demobilization and Re-integration. I imagine that’s where she copied her DDR (disarmament, demobilization and rehabilitation), her latest tack towards the MILF announced last Thursday after her attempt to ride on the Muslim cause to push her charter change agenda had renewed hostilities in Mindanao killing more than 30 people and rendering homeless more than 250,000 people.

The peace talks with the MILF which produced the explosive Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain was brokered by Malaysia with the United States as one of its main sponsor. Japan, Brunei and Libya have representatives in the International Monitoring Team while the ceasefire between the government armed forces the Muslim rebel forces is in place. By the way, the IMT mandate, which is supposed to expire on August 31, has been extended for three more months.
Arroyo’s actions in recent days indicate lack of control and desperation. With majority of Filipinos registering distrust and disapproval of her, she is turning for support to other countries. Probably she thinks that by involving the international community in the Mindanao problem, she can count on their condemnation when she is ousted from power. That’s grasping at straws

In a briefing of the diplomatic corps on the MOA-AD last Wednesday at the Department of Foreign Affairs, a diplomat asked, “What’s next?”

Presidential Spokesperson Jesus Dureza replied:“The next step would be, we are going to do a lot of consultation with ulamas and stakeholders to help us determine the next step that we will take.”

Mindanao secession is a local problem. The Republic of the Philippines should be in the frontline in solving internal conflict not foreign governments. Nag-hahanap pa siya ng kadamay ang kanyang kapal-pakan. Inutil!

A portion of Mr. Herman Tiu Laurel’s recent column:

In all, Marcos and Estrada defeated the rebels; it was Edsa I and II that brought them back to life.

I’m telling you: The scenario in Mindanao today has been cooked up right after Edsa II, just as the 2003 Iraq War was planned by the neocon Project for a New American Century in 1997 to 1998, which had been the crux of our “Kosovo in Mindanao ” article as early as 2003.

So I’m telling you this, too: A huge atrocity against both Muslims and Christians in Mindanao is in the works by neocons for this September’s Ramadan season to serve as basis for accelerating international intervention by Blair and the OIC, and the entry of “international peacekeepers.”

Thus, our response with other nationalists is to prevent the Filipino people from losing out completely in this battle against Balkanization. Armed with truth, we, the descendants of Bonifacio and Rizal, can get out acts together — over the carcasses of the swines of intellectual cowardice and treason.

When she started the moro-moro in Mindanao she failed to consider that her charade might result into an ugly situation. Now the situation is getting worse, getting out of control and there’s no end in sight in the near future. Tuloy ang kaguluhan at tuloy ang patayan ng kapuwa Pilipino. Her foot soldiers in the AFP are no match in terms of firepower and combat prowess against the “enemy” and pity them for serving as pawns of the generals and her majesty. But mind you they are good at acting as protectors and personal bodyguards of Gloria and her family. And they are also really good in cheating for her.

And what are her plans to solve the crisis that she masterminded in the first place? Go abroad! What with all the happenings and problems facing the country she still can afford to gallivant? Wala tayong magagawa, makapal ang mukha at talagang walang delicadeza. And besides she had to refresh and re-energize. Pagod na pagod na siya di ba? Kailangang maka-pagrelax at makapagpahinga naman siya sa ibang environment and atmosphere at siyempre, kasama ang mga alalay at mga alipores in an all expenses paid trip. And the poor taxpayers will shoulder the bill then contribute again thru the E-vat and income taxes for them to use the next time around.

At saka hindi naman pala pasarap lang ang biyahe, kundi hihingi ng tulong sa ibang bansa, Is she who called herself President really felt helpless to solve the problem of her country that she need to call for outside help? Is she embarrassed to do it? I don’t think so. That face is made of brick and there’s no way she can ever feel shame and embarrassment. So go for it, Gloria.

This thick faced illegal president will make use of the Mindanao fighting to beg for more money in her next trip. She definitely has a Phd in “soliciting” for money and support wherever she goes. MAKAPAL talaga ang mukha!

Di ba nung pumunta siya sa US eh typhoon Frank devastated our country? Iloilo and Aklan were under water and a Sulpicio ship sank. But this woman was caught on tape na tuwang tuwa at nakikipagconference kuno and managing her government by remote control! Tapos nun eh nagbigay siya ng mga banko na pwedeng pagremitan ng mga oversees Filipinos. MUKHANG DONATION ang pandak. Wala na talagang HIYA!

The British would snap at any chance to get any colony to expand their shadow under the sun. It expanded its common wealth with the transfer of Sabah to Malaysia disregarding its ancestral source. And why would Blair try to talk peace with the proteges of Kuala Lumpur in favor of a potential adversary if not yet one?

When couple’s relationship starts to become sour because of a variety of reasons, marriage counseling is much needed to save the marriage that is falling apart. When the parents can no longer control their child’s bad temper or behavior, parents seek outside help for example from the social welfare or psychiatrist. Liberal critics like you do not understand that the nature of our problem in Mindanao is obviously not only domestic but also an international one. Having said that, it is not a bad idea at all to seek help from other countries if in doing so, we would be able to attain peace in Mindanao.

Please note that journalism in our country is dead because of partial and bias reporting. Our liberal journalists just to get attention domestically and internationally, have been resorting to personal attacks which you and I know or should have know, has no place in journalism. In fact, liberal journalists both in print and media have been abusing the first amendment right of free speech and the press. No wonder, a lot of these journalists have already been buried six feet below the ground.

There is nothing wrong in criticizing the government. That is your right and also that is everybody’s right who believes in our Constitution. What is wrong is when liberal journalists are severely criticizing the government worldwide by using the internet without being objective portraying we have a good for nothing government when that’s really an absolute lie. We have a democratically stable government and the whole world knows that. Contrary to your belief and the beliefs of other liberal journalists, our President was legitimately elected by the people and thus far, no world leaders have ever come forward questioning the legitimacy of Arroyo’s government.

Therefore we would know the right answer if we including you, have patience in talking with the ulamas and stakeholders. After all, everybody including wants peace in Mindanao. Don’t you? Ms Todesillas.

  20. “Change your leader,” says former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, in response to a question in a forum on what makes a good leader in times of crisis. The question: what must be done if you have lost trust in your leader? “Trust is the first part of leadership in a democracy,” he said.
“People are in great need of honesty and integrity in government. It is the only way you can overcome the cynicism that is developing among the people. The more they can see how government operates, the more they feel that government is operating in the open, the more confidence a government can develop. Probably the best advice you can give any government today is to be more transparent.”

“A source in Malacañang said they are also at a loss trying to understand Arroyo’s decisions these days. It looks like she is disassembling.” Disassembly, falling apart, losing her marbles. The unintended consequences of her latest schemes are apparently an enormous strain and the stresses could be so unbearable it could end in incapacitation. Hello, Noli.

  21. florry florry

Atty Castro, please tell us something good about Gloria and her government. Maybe you don’t know that Arroyo put the Philippines in the map as the most corrupt country in Asia. She is also known as the most corrupt president the Philippines ever had. Her regime registered the most number of murdered journalists who are now buried six feet under surpassing the record of the 20-year reign of Marcos. And don’t you forget, Mike Arroyo’s libel suing rampage of journalists earning him the nickname as the libel king. If that’s not an intimidation or a threat to the free flow of information, I don’t know what it is. We should be thankful to those liberal journalists, the likes of Ms Tordesillas who despite the risks still have the courage to expose the evilness of Gloria and her cohorts. If not for them, Filipinos will be like fools and idiots ignorant on what is happening in their own country.

Or is he merely implying he is practicing in the States. From what he has dished out so far, that’s what he terribly needs. Praktis pa, atitiway or you won’t get your license.

  24. You’re a funny man Atty:Efren Castro.
When a president gets elected in a contestable way, we conclude that democracy does not function well. And If a president́s tenure is peremptorily extended, the country is undemocratic and the president illegitimate.

Now,what democratically stable country you are talking about?

The existence of this Arroyo regime is the root of many problems in the Philippines today.Maybe, you are more smart enough to know a lot of shady deals that created a big scandals in these present regime. If not you can ask Jun Lozada, unless you don’t enjoy the palatable Ben’s hamburjer.

When couple’s relationship starts to become sour because of a variety of reasons, marriage counseling is much needed to save the marriage that is falling apart.

only when there’s still enough love (though dwindling) remaining to overcome the usual quarrels, tampo, pride, dysfunction, and other minor incompatibility issues, and only if both parties are still willing to save the relationship.

otherwise it’s futile and divorce is the only option.

  27. chi chi

“Liberal critics like you do not understand that the nature of our problem in Mindanao is obviously not only domestic but also an international one.”-efren

Oh yeah…it is also an international issue because Gloria has been begging the OIC countries to include her on the center stage.

  28. When the parents can no longer control their child’s bad temper or behavior, parents seek outside help for example from the social welfare or psychiatrist.—Efren.

There are a lot of reason why children become rebellious and the parents need to address that problem first before sending them to a psychiatrist.Once you bring your children to a care of a psychiatrist, you ruin their lives because the society and the people will judge them “Ada Katok” and they can not be trusted or even get a job.Employer would rather hire an ex- convict than a physco.

Perhaps it would be a meritorious act not to protest for the children to their parents, but,if the parent simply acted in a fit of anger and abusive then he is wicked person, then the children are permitted to insult their parents.

we resist thinking of abusive parents. However, recognize this possibility and make it clear that there is no obligation for a child to honor such a parent.Where possible,it is best for the child to move away. However when not possible,a child is permitted to take steps to protect himself from abuse and can seek recourse, the fact, it is very unfortunate that some parents may inadvertently imply to children that they passively tolerate chronic abuse by parents when this is not the case.

  29. Now,the court is yours to present your case Attorney.

    WARNING TO ATENEO PARENTS !!!:

—–Subject: Man in Armscor shirt scares the hell out of an Ateneo mom on
    August 7, 2008

Something scary happened to me today at around 11:30
a.m. at the Ateneo parking area along the alternate road leading to Gate 3.

I arrived at the area at around 9:00 a.m. The parking area was already full.
However, I noticed that some cars were parked far apart from each other and that
their drivers can be requested to move closer to eachother to accommodate my
    small Honda City.

I approached the ownerof a gray Toyota Camry with plate number UNY 220. He was
sleeping inside hiscar so I tapped lightly and apologetically requested him to
move his car. He refused to move, asserting that I cannot fit into the space. He
told me to bother the driver beside him instead. I left him alone because I did
not want to be a nuisance.

The other vehicle was a van driven by a family driver. He was also sleeping, mind
you, but he graciously moved his van. I was finally able to park but it was a
very tight fit.. If the owner of the Camry had moved as well,it would have been
perfect. However, I did not want to bother the man who was clearly irritated.

At 11:30 a.m., Iarrived at my car with the two boys in tow. I was so shocked to
find the man owning the Camry to be waiting for me. As I approached, he opened his
window and said, “PUTANG INA MO!” in front of my twokids and his son who was
seated at the back of his car covering his ears.He continued his assault and
said, “You don’t wake up people and manipulate them.” I told him in a calm voice
that I apologized to him and left him alone because he didn’t want to be
bothered. He kept on accusing me of being manipulative (I don’t even know why?
It was just a request). And this is where it gets scary. He threatened me and
said that IT IS PEOPLE LIKE ME HE PUTS A GUN TO THE HEAD TO.

I asked him if he was connected to the military and he said, “E ikaw, sino ka
ba?” I said I was just a simple housewife. He then proceeded to call me stupid
    over and over again.

I just let it pass because I didn’t want to provoke him. He has a PPSA
    (Philippine Practical
Shooting Association) sticker at the back and he just might make good his threat.

Luckily, I still had enough wits about and was ableto get his plate number and
his picture through my cellphone camera.

I immediately reportedthis incident to Mr. Leoncio D. Miralao, Administrator of
the ADMU Physical Plant. This person is highly volatile and I don’t want my boys,
or any other child for that matter, anywhere near him. He might start shooting
people if he gets into another altercation.

What shocks me is that he is an Ateneo parent (a parent!)who should be
reinforcing the Ignatian values that the Ateneo has been diligently drilling into
our children. Furthermore,I’m sure the PPSA espouses responsible gun ownership
and will certainly frown upon this member’s behavior.

Who cares about this Atty:Efren Castro.Just because he introduced himself a lawyer it doesn’t mean he can scare anyone of us here.Actually I don’t have any respect to a lawyer especially lawyers who often put the rule of law ahead of their own interests,to me they are cynical and short-sighted:

This abugado and notario publico preached democracy and in fact this Arroyo administration in a way has done us a “no favor”.It has revealed to us the many ways in which our system can be gamed, even though we thought it was a good one with checks and balances, but we end up with a ” Band aid Democracy” in which only the rich and those near the kitchen enjoyed, they are the party that happens to win a presidential election through “Dagdag-bawas” and gets all the marbles, and the moderate positions that the great majority of people hold are ignored.Majority of Filipinos want to end the “Pidalism Rule”, but we cannot get this done because of the way the system works. Congress is supposed to have the exclusive right and remedy to end Filipinos misery through impeachment, but has abdicated this so that their president can do whatever she wants. Congress is supposed to control the purse strings but the rhetoric ensures that they are never able to use this power. this system is pretty screwed up if you ask me Attorney Castro.

The Philippines is much better off that whore Gloria is abroad, she’s as useless as termites. Hence, the bitch is doing the country a big favor and let others outside the country to put up with that whore. After all she’s nothing but bad news, and just a political figure since her corrupt dogs are running the country anyway. Furthermor, my take on this, that whore Gloria is taking too much time abroad is that she’s making sure that Pidal accounts are in order just case that she has to abandon the Philippines like the Marcosses. When the time come that she has to be kicked out of her stolen enchanted kingdom, whore Gloria and her immediate family of corruptors are set for life abroad. You can take this to the bank, whore Gloria will be spending much of her time, at least for the next five years, after her thievery program expired, by that time whore Gloria already extracted all she can from the people’s treasury. I’ve heard of many known shameless corrupt people, and whore Gloria would be on top of the list without the benefit of the doubt. I won’t shed a drop of tear if that whore would suddenly drop dead. If there is justice left in the Philippines, I hope it’ll be much sooner.

Pangasinan Rep. Jose de Venecia Jr. urged the Senate to wrap up its investigation into the controversial $329-million national broadband network (NBN) contract with China’s ZTE Corp. as “they already have enough information and evidence in their hands.”

De Venecia said the Senate has virtually completed its investigation on the botched deal even without his testimony.

De Venecia earlier vowed to appear before the Senate to testify on what he knows about the deal and corroborate the allegations of his son, Joey, over the corruption surrounding the NBN contract.

The former House speaker claimed he is currently working out his schedule, citing numerous speaking invitations, among them from the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines and civil society groups.

She is probably dealing with the oil companies. Once the bansamoro becomes independent, they will need funds to run the country. They will start to sell rights to explore oil. This is where her family comes in. She will be paid well by the bangsamoro for services rendered.

Here is one scenario. There will be an all out war in Mindanao. The UN will step in and send peacekeepers. The BMoro will proclaim independence. The US will recognize BMoro(remember Kosovo). The US gets bases and rights to explore n. resources. GRP will protest but no one will listen. GRP loses Mindanao.

Another scenario. GRP will protest. China listens. Another US-Sino proxy war starts.

    Justice Dante Tinga:

Tinga pointed out that the IPRA law does not identify the MILF as indigenous peoples or as one of the indigenous cultural communities which may have a legal claim on ancestral domain.

He also noted that “there were people ahead of the Muslims” and that these “Islamized” populace, like the Christians, arrived only in the 14th century.

“If we consider Muslims as IPs, then the Pampangos, Pangalatoks, Ilocanos, everybody would be considered an IP,” Tinga said.

In singling out the MILF for the MOA-AD negotiation and the BJE creation, “there was grave abuse of discretion in considering (them) different from the rest.”

Devanadera replied that entering into an agreement with the MILF was based on political consideration but Tinga countered that in the claim for ancestral domain, the basis should have historical and scientific support.

So, Why are these MILF are claiming ANCESTRAL DOMAIN in the MOA-AD since there is no basis at all because they are not the original inhabitants of Mindanao? There were people before them.

    http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/topofthehour.aspx?StoryId=129671

Take note that Malacanang lawyer was saying that, “MILF was based on political consideration”. Why? Because they could not justify this MILF bandits is representing the original inhabitants of Mindanao.

USIP is saying the same thing that this MILF bandits are political in nature, and not religious or economic. Why? USIP could not justify that this MILF is fighting for ancestral domain or fighting for their land as an original inhabitant of Mindanao.

    http://www.usip.org/pubs/specialreports/sr202.html

Also, no wonder that Joaquin Bernas was saying that MOA-AD is just a piece of paper because Luli is going to get married to one of his relative.

  61. etcetera etcetera

The MOA-AD agreement is a misnomer because there is no “ancestral domain” that is involved here. There is no basis at all and they could not justify it. They should call this agreement MOA-PB, Pidal and Bandits agreement.

  66. Yes he will retire after Oscar DeLa Hoya knocked him out and seeing plenty stars.

  67. Bakeries will opt to produce the bread from a cheaper lower-protein flour to lower the price of pandesal, these are just a funny stories that hit the news in our country. If you get tired of reading all the sad news about the Sabio brothers calling each other regarding the tug of war case between Meralco and GSIS,the moro-moro conflict drama in Mindanao, the belt tightening of laborers, jobless and punyakules, the ballooning debts in our country and the president’s migrane in attempt to secure new loan to pay the interest on the capital. Beware about the Chinese ZTE.These are the items are decidedly Filipinos will panic. Some of the items will make you smile,Luli the first gentleman’s girl will be getting married.

The most fascinating stories that called my attention is none of these news that’s happening. The gorgeous girls posing in the internet looking for a date and probably marriage caught my attention.Take this ads for example “Rich, educated and sexy Filipina looking for American husband”–Rich by what standard? Belong to the Ayala and Zobel clan or a daughter of corrupt politicians? Here’s another one “Rich American seek filipina wives”This American probably a Moslem because he is looking for more than one. A rich American flipping meat fatties at Burger King earning twenty thousand dollars a years including overtime is phenomenally rich considering the exchange rate of forty five pesos, comparing to a Filipino making minimum wage a day; that can relate to one thing; a bowl of instant noodles on the table.

  68. I wonder,if this pedophile rich American flipping burger place an ad at wowowee, how many colleges graduates unable to find work will appears at the gate of Kapamilya TV Station for the interview and the videotaping by Cory Vidanes and Pokwang. It is naive to expect that the prospective wives will consult Dra.Belo or Dr.Calayan for botox and skin bleaching.Or how does a shy Filipina who earned 30 units of English along Recto Avenue with a packet of pictures in a gown ang toga will overcome the embarrassment of answering questions that test her intelligence as a college graduate and then mimicking with RR.They might be speaking the same slang English like Gloria Arroyo that only her Palakpak Boys can understand.

it makes me laugh about these ads,If he want as a beautiful, sexy and intelligent Filipina, Why he could not find a nurse TNT in America ? There is something wrong with this caucasian man. Of course maybe, he want to be lucky to find a forty years old virgin Filipina conservative from the barrio who become fearful of the communist who come down from the mountains at harvest time and took 3 sacks of rice every ten gathered, leaving the remaining seven to be divided between the farmer and the landowner.Call it tithing, securing protection or paying revolutionary tax.The virgin wanted to leave before she’ll be rape and she sold some patola harvest in the market for a bus fare to WowoWee with a positive thinking that if they pass the interview: comes next is the green card.

The Wowowee show takes advantage of the vulnerability of the poor. The show uses the poor people for its rating. In the past, cheating of games and prizes were discovered but never fully investigated not to mention the tragedy that killed hundreds of fans.

Sinabi mo pa. But then, it’s very typically Filipino. The women I help for example in Japan with their problems more often than not want me to solve their problems for them without them trying at all to solve them first as if their problems are mine to own and bear. Anong tawag diyan? Parasite? Yuck!

  76. Gloria Dorobo is worst. She wants other countries to bear the problems of the Philippines, even imposing for instance the many Filipinos she cannot help find decent jobs in the Philippines on other countries having similar problem of unemployment. Dito nga sinabi nang bawal ang mga Japayuki, golly, padala pa rin ng padala ang POEA ng mga Japayuki like that Filipino said to have been raped by a GI in Okinawa that the Philippine government washes off its hands as in the cases of Filipinos getting involved in murder cases overseas either as the victim or the assailant. In other, taratanda. She should be pulled by the hair out of the palace by the murky river. Next time she comes to Tokyo, I’ll try to picket with my friends in front of the hotel where she will stay with her fellow crooks whose travel expenses are being paid for by taxpayers. The PLS had its heyday in the early years, counting as its alumni, President Carlos P Garcia (1928), Supreme Court Justice Conrado Sanchez (1928)and and the authority on administrative law, Neptali Gonzales (1949).

Marami pang nag-place if you check the topnotchers list of the Supreme Court.

Maraming sikat na hindi nag-place, at marami ring nag-place na hindi sumikat. Ever heard of Pedro Samson C. Animas? He placed first in 1952. Would you prefer Animas over Estelito Mendoza (not in the top ten) as your defense lawyer?
