Moves For Term Extension Will Not Die:Filipino Citizens Should Prepare For Action

The organisation of FSGO (Former Senior Government Officials) is circulating this petition for signature:

We, the organizations and individuals who have signed this statement, are citizens of this Republic alarmed by current political developments. We note that in spite of various protestations by political leaders from the administration and the opposition, the talk of a brazen attempt to extend the term of Mrs. Arroyo simply will not die.

Charter change to be initiated in Congress through a constituent assembly has seemingly been stopped in its tracks by the vocal opposition of many members of the Senate, whose two-thirds approval would logically seem necessary to convene a constituent assembly.

Yet the House of Representatives, through the Speaker, and the Chairman of the Committee on Constitutional Amendments, has announced that it will be holding “public consultations” to elicit public opinion on charter change, whether for federalism, shift to a parliamentary system or such other excuse/justificatio n as may later dawn on the proponents.

Some legislators have been vocal in pushing their interpretation that “the Constitution requires only a two thirds vote of its members to propose amendments to the Constitution,” an interpretation that would make the Senators’ votes almost irrelevant in the process.

The current administration has swung violently on the matter of the conflict in Mindanao from rushing to sign the MOA on Ancestral Domain with the MILF to the abrupt cancellation of the peace talks, the dissolution of the peace panel and the attempt of Mrs. Arroyo to disown knowledge of the agreement; and now a relentless armed confrontation that is seemingly designed to goad the MILF and other groups into a combative reaction or a series of violent actions. The inevitable armed confrontations and deaths that will follow could be a ready-made platform to suspend the writ of habeas corpus or, heaven forbid, even the declaration of Martial Law. The Constitution requires only a vote of a majority of the members of Congress, voting jointly, to approve and extend Martial Law.

We declare our commitment to a just and sustainable peace in Mindanao . We will initiate and support all possible actions that will bring about an inclusive process to begin with ceasefire and return to the peace table.

We declare our united opposition (1) to any moves that exploit the Mindanao situation to extend Mrs. Arroyo’s stay in power, (2) to any attempt to amend the Constitution before 2010, (3) to any attempt to change the Constitution through a Constituent Assembly, and (4) to any step towards declaring Martial Law.

We call on all Filipinos to be vigilant, to inform themselves, to organize with like-minded fellow citizens, and to prepare to show our leaders and officials the true power of our democracy.

  1. Let’s all join this campaign. Time to remove the creep who should have been disqualified when suspicion of her cheating in the 2004 Election had become clear complete with evidences such as those published in Malaya, a reason I guess for the attempt now for the numerous lawsuits against Macasaet and his staff. It’s actually long overdue.

The short woman, who is, however, not short of doing all those things considered as crimes in more progressive countries like Japan where public officials resign or commit suicide once they are exposed, should be removed NOW! Filipinos need not suffer any longer under the leadership and the lack of it of this evil bitch! Patalsikin na, now na!

No less than Speaker Nograles said that Cha-Cha should immediately be approved even by passing the Senate as long as there’s a majority approval of the Congress. The evil plan is clearly written on the wall.

  3. I’ve been reading a lot of blog site lately that have to do with one side or the other, of the Tongress is pushing again to start the engine of the Cha-Cha Train. And there was a very interesting thread about why people don’t like to dance very much right now. It got me to thinking. Do these include gun tooting just to push the hidden agenda?

There is fast approaching a time in the not too distant future when your fake President will openly declare martial law. All of your civil liberties will officially be gone and you will be stripped of your rights as citizen. Those who resist or revolt will be placed in labor camps for “re-education”.You will all wake up one day from your collective coma with no more WOWOEEEE or Eat Bulaga being broadcast you will find yourself unprepared to deal with the reality laid before you. I’m not discounting the possibility of a ‘Martial Law’ scenario––I have news for all of you who are interested. Martial law has already been declared. It just has not been officially announced. When it is officially announced it will already be in full force and fully operational.

As far as immediate reactions to the declaration of martial law, it would depend entirely on the circumstances.

extending gloria arroyo’s term, according to former SND nonong cruz, is a temptation considered by her cabinet men. these people have nothing but their personal interests in mind. if they insist, it may lead to their downfall. but this charter change move will be effected definitely not during the term of alex yano(who nonong says is an honest officer), but will be ratified and approved after yano steps down in july 2009. his successor will be chosen from among Malacanang’s top and most trusted generals, who can do an Esperon, though better. maybe from among GMA and Danny Lim’s class of 1978. im sure you all know who the next CSAFP will be.

second, the rule of law cannot be relied on any more. sadly, despite the blatant flaws of the proponents’ legal arguments, the constitution means what the SC says it means. thus, in clear and practical terms, if the SC approves the absurd interpretation of the lower house, then the constitution will be ammended before we know it. sad isnt it? but thats what we(pinoys in general) get for being all too passive about the situation.

third, if Gloria extends her term successfully in 2010, it will spell the end for the country. thanks to the opportunists, we will surely go on a free fall and picking up the pieces will be the hardest thing to do.

but after the noise would have settled maybe in several years, we shall remember, not the noise of gloria and her minions, but the silence of our friends who refused to take a stand.

quoting mrs aquino in her last SONA “Democracy is the only way for us… God expects nothing less from us than that we follow our conscience… God will take care of the rest”.

have we been following our conscience by being conviniently silent on the issue of Gloria Arroyo? on the issue of good governance? on the issue of free elections? on the issue of corruption? or have we chosen to follow the popular opinion by being passive and isolated, while the rest of philippine society is in chaos.

as in criminal law, there are two types of crimes – acts or ommissions. as in religion, there are two types of sins – “what i have done” and “what i have failed to do”. our silence and non action is the best form of approval for the status quo, a system perpetuated by greed and evil. thus, we are party to this squabble. by our complicity, we have allowed the perpetuation of a system so rotten and evil, that by our failure to resist, we contribute to its motion thus help in its end.

Who was it who said, “All that it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”

To me, you are not good if you do nothing when you see that your country is being destroyed. Fence sitting is not a virtue.

  8. etcetera etcetera

Yano is just a figure head. Esperon is the real chief of staff.

Esperon told Pinol that if they get TRO by Supreme Court that the military will not defend his town. Why was asspweron able to decide those things since he is not a chief of staff?

If bansot will wait until july 2009 to declare emergency rule, the resistance for it will be much stronger than today.

The CA (Court of Arroyo) dismissed Jun Lozada’s Amparo petition against government and military officials stating that he was not kidnapped. How could it not be a kidnap or abduction when Lozada was taken to nowhere? It was only when his wife cried on a radio program (DZMM) that the goons decided to return him to Metro Manila. According to Lozada, he used to play at Wack-Wack…but now his pocket is Wak-Wak.

  10. To me, you are not good if you do nothing when you see that your country is being destroyed. Fence sitting is not a virtue.

I like your take on this Gabriela.Have you considered what action you will take when your door gets kicked off of its hinges by the military demanding to question you, handcuff and blindfolded in front of your family because you taunted Gloria and her gestapo a thieves. I don’t know how you expect to oppose these people.

They have all the resources. You can oppose them with an idea and eventually you will win but you oppose them with muscle and weapons and they will easily crush you. Only our ideas have any lasting power.Isn’t it better to try to enjoy your life a little while things are still holding together. We could all be dead tommorow. Even the top few richest most powerfull people are going to die eventually, in the big scheme of things it doesn’t matter. Its just a shame we arent more focused on real issue.

Marcos martial law was declared.Filipinos didn’t revolt and didn’t get shot and didn’t get messed with. They let the hard core opposition dragged to prison. However in that scenario martial law was declared.I learned that lesson and I regret I was a whimp that time. Now as I grew older I am both comfortable with the idea that I will die one day,I have faced my own mortality. But,it is not my pleasure to die alone like Ninoy.I need a million people to accompany me on a mass grave to attract international condemnations.Hehehehe!

  11. The wistleblowing of Jun Lozada’s suddenly find himeslf confounded and bewildered at the ability to make choices in an unconstrained manner. The CA don’t believe the attempt on his life is a clear sign that at least they see him as a threat for the domino effect.

Former Secretary of Defense Nonong Cruz may have heard something from his erstwhile contacts in the military establishment. I understand he was the one who requested to be interviewed. If the Mindanao hostilities escalate, then this administration would have a good excuse.

Could the “something” be related to the appointment of Chavit Singson as Deputy National Security Adviser. They say retiring PNP Dir-Gen Avelino Razon could be the next NSA.

  14. bitchevil bitchevil

Cocoy, ideas are good. But if we just rely on ideas and no action, then it’s useless. Ideas need to be put to work. It’s similar to knowing theory but doesn’t apply it to practice. I agree that it’s extremely difficult to oppose the present evil regime. This Bitch is willing to kill in order to remain in power. She’s no Marcos or Erap who avoided bloodshed. But just the same, this Bitch must be removed from this planet by hook or by crook. How…that’s my question and everyone’s question.

  15. chi chi

Tapos na raw ang chacha sa Tongreso, sabi ng source ko. Palabas na lang ni Nograles ang ‘usapan’. Under the table discussion ang nangyari, as usual.

  16. chi,

  17. bitchevil bitchevil

You can’t take Palawan, Tongue. It’s been taken by the Chinese. There are over 7,000 islands in the Philippines. All you have to do is to pick one island.

  18. I will establish my own nation in Butete Island. The 7,0001 island in the Philippines.Set up my own rules and proclaim myself Emperor for life.Any Korean,Japanese and Mongoloid who want to become a citizen of my Island must learn to speak Spanish as a second language.

I will write my own Constitution. All cars to have a liqior mechanism so any persons under the influence can not put others at risk.Although i dont smoke it any more I would Legalise Marijuana and ban the use of alcohol.Educate children properly, – they don’t need to be geniuses but they must be literate. They will be forbidden to carry guns and have sex until they are forty five.Teach them ethics and encourage them to explore and understand my religions,

Unelected Gloria’s term as bogus president has an expiration date from the day it begins and should not be tinkered with or should not in any way be extended because it is wrong. People should always be on guard vigilant and informed because the threat to undermine the democratic process is real. And if by any chance this wrong is forced upon the people, drastic actions are needed to correct and change the situation. Changes never come without a struggle but with lots of sacrifice. And if people unite and rise up to the challenge they will end up stronger and better. After all what sacrifice is too much if for the sake of country and people. It’s worth every drop of sweat and blood.

    BE,

According to a new study, 78 percent of Washington, D.C., eighth graders can’t do basic math. But today, President Bush said, “Let’s focus on the positive. Let’s look at the 48 percent who can.”

And Governor Sarah Palin gave her speech tonight at the GOP convention. And it gave people who didn’t know anything about her a chance to finally meet her. You know, like John McCain.
I’ve got to admit, she looked very comfortable at the podium, because it’s kind of like Alaska. When you look out over the convention floor, nothing but white as far as the eye can see.

I don’t know if you noticed this, but at the GOP convention, the camera men were desperately trying to find minorities in the audience they could zoom in on. Finally after an hour, they found one. It was a Presbyterian standing in a group of Methodists.. That was the only one they could find.

And we’re learning more and more about John McCain’s running mate, Sarah Palin, who is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and a firm believer in shotgun weddings – Jay Leno

The McCain campaign wants to make Sarah Palin’s 17-year-old pregnant daughter off limits. Isn’t that what Sarah Palin should have done seven months ago? – Will Durst

Money can’t bring happiness, so we’re trying a recession. – Gil Stern

Aired Friday night on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on ABC: Cindy McCain appeared at the Republican National Convention, and Vanity Fair took a look at an outfit she wore. The magazine priced it out at around $300,000. With that kind of money, you could buy an 11th house.
Should we be nervous about a man who preaches against wasteful spending when his wife is wearing $300,000?
If” Cindy McCain were a plane, Sarah Palin would sell her on eBay.

You know, Sarah Palin, the vice presidential running mate on the Republican ticket, likes to shoot assault rifles. I’ll say this for her daughter’s boyfriend. The kid’s got guts. – David Letterman

Political analysts give Sarah Palin no chances in a debate against Joe Biden due to her lack of experience in foreign affairs. That could be true, but wait until we get to the swimsuit portion of the event. – Pedro Bartes

Sarah Palin is at the awkward age, too young to be the president in the White House and too old to be an intern.

David Duchovny has entered a rehabilitation facility for sex addiction. His wife called for an intervention after he refused to stop watching “The XXX Files.” – Paul Seaburn, Spring, Texas

After getting complaints about a man taking coins from a fountain in front of City Hall, the New York police said they can’t stop him because it’s not against the law. But the man stopped on his own after being shoved out of the way by brokers from Lehman Brothers.

Hillary said last night it was good the venue for the Republican Convention was the Twin Cities because Bush and McCain are “awfully hard to tell apart.” The Democratic convention is now split on whether to locate in Surprise, Arizona, Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, or Bill Clinton’s favorite, French Lick, Indiana. – Uncle Sid
