‘A nation of servants’

Do we deserve this?

chip-tsao

The war at home

by Chip Tsao

HK Magazine

The Russians sank a Hong Kong freighter last month, killing the seven Chinese seamen on board. We can live with that—Lenin and Stalin were once the ideological mentors of all Chinese people. The Japanese planted a flag on Diàoyú Island. That’s no big problem—we Hong Kong Chinese love Japanese cartoons, Hello Kitty, and shopping in Shinjuku, let alone our round-the-clock obsession with karaoke.

But hold on—even the Filipinos? Manila has just claimed sovereignty over the scattered rocks in the South China Sea called the Spratly Islands, complete with a blatant threat from its congress to send gunboats to the South China Sea to defend the islands from China if necessary. This is beyond reproach. The reason: there are more than 130,000 Filipina maids working as $3,580-a-month cheap labor in Hong Kong. As a nation of servants, you don’t flex your muscles at your master, from whom you earn most of your bread and butter.

As a patriotic Chinese man, the news has made my blood boil. I summoned Louisa, my domestic assistant who holds a degree in international politics from the University of Manila, hung a map on the wall, and gave her a harsh lecture. I sternly warned her that if she wants her wages increased next year, she had better tell every one of her compatriots in Statue Square on Sunday that the entirety of the Spratly Islands belongs to China.

Grimly, I told her that if war breaks out between the Philippines and China, I would have to end her employment and send her straight home, because I would not risk the crime of treason for sponsoring an enemy of the state by paying her to wash my toilet and clean my windows 16 hours a day. With that money, she would pay taxes to her government, and they would fund a navy to invade our motherland and deeply hurt my feelings.

Oh yes. The government of the Philippines would certainly be wrong if they think we Chinese are prepared to swallow their insult and sit back and lose a Falkland Islands War in the Far East. They may have Barack Obama and the hawkish American military behind them, but we have a hostage in each of our homes in the Mid-Levels or higher. Some of my friends told me they have already declared a state of emergency at home. Their maids have been made to shout “China, Madam/Sir” loudly whenever they hear the word “Spratly.” They say the indoctrination is working as wonderfully as when we used to shout, “Long live Chairman Mao!” at the sight of a portrait of our Great Leader during the Cultural Revolution. I’m not sure if that’s going a bit too far, at least for the time being.

That’s Chip Tsao in the picture.

  1. that is not nice of Chip Tsao to mix humanity with politics. Employing his maid from the Philippines has nothing to do with Spratley. He can always find a mexican or somebody from brazil or somewhere from Indonesia or Thailand.

It’s not an insult if Chip will think of it legally.

ahah then… the next president should lower the qoutas of sending workers to countries that we owe so much. We must then create employment of our own . This is what happen when a country lacks the political will. We filipinos are too nice. Even corruption is tolerated. I think we need to start demanding the right thing. The media should be our agent of Change.

  2. Statement of Akbayan Rep. Risa Hontiveros:

“This disgusting, derogatory, and vile remark can only come from dim-witted and mediocre writing. His article should not have been published in a lifestyle magazine, it should been thrown immediately into a trash bin.”

“The magazine should apologize straight-away. The article reflects the kind of attitude that promote abuses against Filipina domestic workers. When you make fun of a particular group, you expose them to abuses. Wittingly or unwittingly, you end up supporting acts of intolerance and abuses.”

“As for Chip Tsao, he should find another profession. He should leave the Spratlys issue to the diplomats and writing to real writers because clearly he has neither competence nor talent in foreign affairs and in writing.”

“Filipina domestic workers should hold a one-day strike to tell the likes of Chip Tsao who’s the real master of the HK economy. If all Filipino workers in HK would strike, the HK economy would grind to a halt without us having to invade the territory.”

. “Domestic work is a decent job. It’s not just done by hired Filipina domestic workers, it has also been the function of mothers of all nationality, in HK and China and elsewhere. It should be treated with respect.”

  3. From Ceferino Baler:

    marami pong salamat,

  4. A UNICEF-commissioned study estimates that roughly one in every four kids(about 9 million children)have at least one parent working abroad.

What will happen to the millions of children these workers leave behind?

  5. This Chinese is an ignoramus, filthy sonofabitch!

In one of my posts earlier on, I said I would trust the Japanese even if they had been our most ferocious enemies last century but I certainly wouldn’t trust the Red Chinese — and here is a proof that we should be cautious of them.

If we have to flex our muscles we must start at home – the Chinese in the Philippines who made their fortune in the Philippines after escaping from the harrowing poverty in Red China or mainland China should be told in no uncertain terms that they had better tell their relatives in China, their friends and partners in that pseudo Communist-Imperialist nation of noodle eaters to pipe down lest they become the brunt of Pinoy anger.

Why doesn’t this monkey writer who calls hims Chip Tsao of HK Magazine come where I sit and I will round up all the “servants” in this civilised corner of the world to give hims some flogging and caning he’ll never forget!

Why doesn’t this monkey writer take it on people who could fight him? This Chinese chimp has taken it on his employee but has he got the balls to take it on someone elese?

China, with their rotten and corrupt ridden civilisation should police their people. Chinese authorities should tell their own chinky eyed chimps that they are seriously beginning to get on the nerves of people around the world.

And you know what Ellen, in retaliation, I shall give my Chinese girl tenant a tongue lashing too and will give her notice to vacate the flat in exactly 30 days! (You see, much as I would like to throw her in the street today, I am a civilised person and where I sit (not some ugly, dirty, noisy, disease-ridden lil dot in the world like HK), we try not to be as monkey brained as the Chinese!

  6. Stupid, idiotic Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and her shit-brained members of the government should now re-think their moronic policy of shipping cheap labour, trafficking women as maids all over the world!

  7. Ellen,

Re: “They may have Barack Obama and the hawkish American military behind them, but we have a hostage in each of our homes in the Mid-Levels or higher. Some of my friends told me they have already declared a state of emergency at home. Their maids have been made to shout “China, Madam/Sir” loudly whenever they hear the word “Spratly.”

The writer of this shitty HK magazine article is a complete idiot — if he says they have Filipino hostages in China then he must know too that WE HAVE Chinks for hostages in the Philippines too!

Time perhaps to do a tit for tat and carry on with our cottage industry by calling on the members of Abu Sayyaff, Kuratong Baleleng associates, and other bands who make forced “hosting” of people for a living to step up the work but to make sure that they pick up Chinks. And if they don’t pay up, BEHEAD THEM!

  8. The writer is completely out of touch — he’s just as moronic as his friends as shit-brained as many Red Chinese!

Re: “Manila has just claimed sovereignty over the scattered rocks in the South China Sea called the Spratly Islands, complete with a blatant threat from its congress to send gunboats to the South China Sea to defend the islands from China if necessary.”

Doesn’t the stupid Chink know that our navy has already used a gunboat to sink one of their stupid ships? Just ask Ernie de Leon, former FOIC and currently RP ambassador to Australia.

Ellen, you cannot take this sitting down — this is a complete affront to the dignity of the Philippines or whatever is left of it. I do believe you must write a ripost in your column with equal vehemence.

The Filipinos can shit on each other, spit at each other, punch each other’s nose but it is totally another matter when a foreigner, particularly a bloody Red Chinese noodle eater does it to us! Filipinos must forget their grievances against each other and train their guns, their keyboards, their typewriters or whatever to do a tit for tat!

    Nothing less!

And those maids in HK? My advice, lace the coffee of their “Chink Masters” with arsenic!

  9. Now is the time for Chinese of Filipino origin who have taken advantage or continue to take advantage of the enormous lagrgesse of the Philippines, its people, its resources, its corruption whatsoever to choose and to pledge their loyalty:

Towards the Philippines or towards China?

Those who hesitate must be kicked out without any hesitation or if they resist, must be drowned in Pasig river!

  10. Shit, I’m so furious I’m shitting on my keyboard…

“Now is the time for Filipinos of Chinese origin who have…to choose and to pledge their loyalty: “

  11. Mon Mon

All Mr.Chip Tsao did, in his personal capacity is to betray his civility, hiding behind his “patriotism.” 16-hour workday and dictating an employee to be a trumpeter for his comprehension of sovereignty and sense of “superiority” is definitely not being nice.

What bothers me more is that such a racist piece was actually carried by HK Magazine.

From where I sit – Mr. Chip Tsao may not even be a “real” person, but someone who is employed by a government or tasked by one of its agencies to do exactly what his piece was meant to do – stir up racial antagonism. Mr.

Mr. Tsao drilled in his letter that what he feels, what he thinks, and what he is asking his Filipina domestic helper to do are all because he a Chinese, and may prove to be effective if some of our people and our own media gang up on him being a Chinese; and secondly as an incidental yet very individual Mr. Chip Tsao.

Ibang usapan kung ang nagsulat ay isang mataas na opisyal ng Chinese government or some general from PLA.

We Filipinos can stand on our moral ground by not stooping to Mr. Tsao’s level and avoid what may very well be a “trap.”

Discuss the issues he brought up in his letter if this will help *future* people in the government to draw up doable policies that will protect our OFWs.

One thing nice with this so-called freedom of expression is it comes as a packaged deal: the freedom to choose what we want to
pay attention to, or simply ignore what the other person say. 🙂

  12. Sensationalism sells newsprint and is common practice globally. Chip Tsao unknown and obscure in Pinoyland is now infamous not just in Pinoyland but around the globe where Pinoys have Internet access, thanks to those who took the taunting bait (insult to national pride).
To be fair, the history of China circa 19th Century indicated the reason Chinese hate foreigners: European colonizers gang-raped and humiliated that nation, losing Hong Kong and Macau in the opium wars. The communists took control of the country, restored its pride and made it the second biggest world economy (after the U.S. and pushing Japan to number three). The Arroyos acknowledged this fact and rendered homage in the secretive ZTE deal.
Xenopbia is not a unique Chinese trait – Pinoys have a senator who has no qualms castigating foreigners. And not all Chinese are communist, the many dissenters concentrated in an island erstwhile named Formosa. Even Pinoyland Chinese (Chinoys) are not pro-Chinese, particularly the Taipans, one of the primary hegemonies dominating Filipinos (the others being the Basques and the Pidals). Some of my close relatives are Chinoys, brown skinned like me, and just as pro-Pinoy.

  13. saxniviolins saxniviolins

When there are countries in dispute, insults are par for the course.

But look around. Intsik beho, tulo laway, chekwa, etc., etc. We Pinoys are not exactly paragons of tolerance. There are the Ilocanos thinking ill of Kapampangans, and vice versa. Look at how derisive Manilans are to the Visayan accent. Look at how derisive rich Makatiites are to the unwashed from the barung-barongs.

Katulong ka lang ah. It hurts, coming from Mr. Tsao. But we say the same thing to our kind. And the worst were my activista (kuno) friends. It is easy to love the abstract poor, but difficult to be kind to the watch-your-car-boy. Remember Raul Gon calls people muchacho.

What I find more incensing is the fact that we have allowed politicians to rape our economy; so that our people have to work as Katoots abroad. On my first trip abroad, I envied the Japanese, who had the swagger of rich people used to travelling; while I counted every dollar, mentally multiplying into pesos; and I swore, balang araw, magiging ganyan din ang mga anak ko.

On his first visit to Germany, Akio Morita (owner of Sony) was insulted when the German waiter served him a mixed drink with a little umbrella as decoration. The German derisively said “Here is something produced in your country”, and stuck the umbrella on the glass. Many years later, sweet revenge; Morita walked into a store, and there were more Sonys on display than Fischer or Grundig.

    Kailan pa kaya, Inang Bayan?

  14. Rose Rose

there is nothing wrong with being a maid…it is a decent job..madalas kung may nawawala sa bahay ay sinasabi na ninakaw ng maid…bakit si Gloria hindi naman maid ay mas masahol pa at karapal na magnanakaw?

  15. I can’t believe i’m reading this.

And to think i just had a bad experience lately with one their kind.

The Holocaust comes to mind. Only this time it will be fully justified.

  16. Rose Rose

hindi ba mayroon ding Chinese Amah? .hindi ba maid din sila?
madalas kung marinig pag sinasabi ko na taga Antique ako..ay ang maid namin ay taga Antique…at ang sagot ko naman what is wrong with being a maid?…madalas din ang sabihin sa akin ay hindi ba maraming aswang at ati? what is wrong with being an aswang or an ati? hindi ba sa ibang lugar marami din ang aswang? ang isa ba maraming ati sa inyo bakit ka mabuti? Kasi noong maliit ako nagkamali ako at ang nagamit kung sabon ay Tide..pagkatapos naglaro sa init at nabilad..tuloy pumuti ako! I was bleached!

  17. Mon,

“We Filipinos can stand on our moral ground by not stooping to Mr. Tsao’s level and avoid what may very well be a “trap.””

I knew a comment like this was bound to come up and to be perfectly honest, my first reaction was that of disbelief and being the seasonal cynic that I am, I thought the writer could be a paid hack by some Chinaman or by a China gov entity and even why not by Gloria and her apostles of cheap labour traffic.

However, the mere fact that a China magazine, whether it has a small circulation or not, but because it knowingly allowed itself to be used as the propaganda vessel for the above thrash which was clearly destined to provoke or to appease you and other Pinoys like you (and signed to boot by a Chinaman sounding name), should be challenged.

Obviously, Filipinos can choose to ignore it or to answer/face the challenge, it’s up to them but in my view, it would do well for any Pinoy or Pinay of any colour or to react to the challenge. To do nothing at all or to stay with arms akimbo would prove that the Filipino would much prefer the easy way out even at the risk of receiving the spitle of another — if so, then the Filipinos deserve their lot.

  18. Where is Yuko when you need her?

  19. Ellen,

Now you understand why Dr M Mahathir, while he was PM, enforced the BUMIPUTRA policy in Malaysia?

  20. Valdemar Valdemar

Let us not kid ourselves. False pride will only make us more of a fool. Chip Tsao see us ass worst than fool which we refuse to realize ourselves. Chip Tsao is very tactful still for not calling us the true ruts. “Kawawang Pinoy…” is all we hear from around us. Totooots naman. Di bahhhhh!?

  21. To him, the Chinese would always be a threat to ethnic Malays…

  22. The Observer The Observer

    Dear Mr. Chip Tsao,

Before you insult someone, try to look yourself in the mirror…contemplate, and try to look if your race is far better than the rest of the world. And to remind you a little of contemporary history and current events, maybe try to defend PRC’s handling of the ff:

    – Toxic paint in toys
    – Melamine in baby formula
    – Cultural Revolution
    – Continued occupation of Tibet
    – Piracy of movies, software
    – Espionage on US military and technology secrets
    – Human rights
    – Support for Sudan and NKor
    – Environmental performace

Why do you pick on Filipinos? Does Communist China prevents you from writing articles about corrupt party officials? Of course, you do not have complete press freedom, access to information, and democracy like the Philippines and the US.

The label of “best-selling author and columnist” should be replaced as war-mongerer, racist, and inhuman emplyer. I have maids myself, perhaps I can not pay as high as your HK dollars, but I treat them like family, with human dignity.

Know your history first before writing comments, otherwise your just putting your foot on your mouth, For hundereds of years and up to know, most Chinese and Filipinos enjoy mutual harmony in business, education, and shared family heritages.

People like you damage that treasured relationship…and even put doubts in China’s legacy if it really advanced its civilization after its long history. Do not feel superior because of your military and economic status…your not there yet.

If this information is right, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chip_Tsao,

you were educated in the London School of Economics with a Diploma in International Relations. If indeed true, then you are not deserving of such a degree. Or perhaps, you were absent during classes in diplomacy major in decency. Also, your parents were communists, then why do you behave like a fascist.

Do you really think that the PR of China and the Philippines will go to war over the Spratleys? You can not even reclaim Taiwan for almost 50 years, which your government calls a ‘renegade province’. Try as you may like it, but you will fail bigtime–maybe another boycott of your inferior products.

Don’t worry, the Philippines will not invade your motherland. The Philippines is not an imperialistic country. We are a kind, hospitable, sensible people–unlike you. And why do some Chinese people claim that the whole South China Sea is theirs? Maybe its time to use the term West Philippine Sea or Sea of SouthEast Asia.

And to the Editor or Owner of this webpage, you are also guilty of bigotry since you allowed this piece of crap to be published…perhaps you shared the same views.

So finally, in some way, you succeeded in degrading and insulting another group of people in the name of patriotism. Your mind is as narrow as your chopstick. You instigated this cheap trick….we say “bring it on”—losers.

Hope you guys sleep well at night…Peace.

  23. To Filipinos of Chinese origin who have pledged their allegiance to the Philippines against any and all potential enemies of the nation, should be considered full-pledged Filipinos; they too should vigorously denounce any foreign attempt to thrash the Filipino nation and must do this without any reservation. Anything less should be perceived as un-Filipino

  24. Excellent rebuttal The Observer!!!

  25. Re: “False pride will only make us more of a fool.”

Some indeed profess pride but is patently false – in that case if you, Valdemar belong to this category, I won’t disagree with you because you have all the right in the world to accept the spittle of another, just as you have the right to accept your lot under Gloria Macapagal. There is absolutely no need or to even contemplate doing something to improve your lot.

    Totoo naman, hindi ba?

  26. The Chinaman’s challenge doesn’t even call for blood , warring with your keyboard would be good enough — imagine what it would be like when the challenge called for it?

I wonder how the Filipino would react? Arms akimbo? “Totoo naman?”, “Ok lang…”, etc., etc.? Run away with their tail between their legs?

  27. Valdemar Valdemar

    AdeBrux,

Like the Observer, you are not observant. You injected Gloria Macapagal here because you are very biased already. She is not my subject. But its fun reading people who missed the point.

  28. Biased? But everyone here is biased against Gloria? What’s wrong with that?

The fact that you don’t wish to pose a challenge to anyone rubbishing the Pinoy nation (or your Pinoy fellowmen) and by extension you (if you are Pinoy) because it is the truth, is something I can deal with but you must also accept that if such should be your attitude, then it is understandable that there’s noting extraordinary to be abused by Gloria too. Accept it, part and parcel of “totoo naman, di ba?”

  29. Valdemar,

Please don’t take it badly — as I said, you have all the right in the world to do as you please!

    Read on:

“Obviously, Filipinos can choose to ignore it or to answer/face the challenge, it’s up to them but in my view, it would do well for any Pinoy or Pinay of any colour or to react to the challenge. To do nothing at all or to stay with arms akimbo would prove that the Filipino would much prefer the easy way out even at the risk of receiving the spitle of another — if so, then the Filipinos deserve their lot.”

I recognize your right to choose the easy way out…How can you fault me?

  30. Valdemar Valdemar

    AdeBrux,

Thought you lost your marbles already.

  31. Valdemar,

Have no fear! Can’t possibly lose my marbles, simple, I’m not a Chink who eats vetsin!

And I was convinced you’d much prefer the easy way out even at the risk of receiving the spitle of another… quite glad it ain’t true.

  32. Honestly,Chip Tsao article is correct.I agree with this China man. The real offense comes from the fact that there are not many people we can still make fun of in our country and get away with it socially. Perhaps one day we can irradicate this prejudice from those open minded wealthy sonamagan. However, when I read some of these comments, I don’t see it happening in the near future. Sorry! We are; what we are, and I don’t see change on the horizon for majority poor pinoy culture. After all, isn’t that why Gloria Arroyo has such a high rate of all the same kind of people?

These bastard chinaman, the author, uses a combination of data and anecdotes to illustrate how China’s economic is affecting us.We are being too close in calling by him a parasite.

Who can fault him? What I can contemplate on his writing is a good wake-up call for all of us Filipinos, until we are still uneducated, unemployed, hungry, the insults will be forcefully spoon feed unto our mouth.

When our government — as the Arroyo did — engages in expensive foreign debt, we eventually run into trouble. Had it not been for Chinese,US and other countries who gave employment for our several millions unemployed people our country have gone bankrupt and in civil war.We Filipino can not be proud and flex our muscles to the master who provide us bread and butter for now. That’s the fact, although it hurts to the bone!

  33. Sure, each one is free to agree with the Chink author’s challenge all he/she wants — fine by me.

I have no doubt the author will be very happy to note that there are Filipinos who find his thesis on the Filipino nation absolutely spot; in fact, those Filipinos who agree with him should send him a congratulatory note, as is their right in every sense of the word, telling him of their support of his and his friends’ abuse, bullying, and meanness towards the Filipino maids.

My Dad taught me and his other children not to run away with the tail between the legs; matter of fact in keeping with that noble spirit, I will throw the China woman (who happens to be a tenant in one of the flats I own) into the street after some severe tongue lashing.

And to the Filipino maids in HK, here’s my advice:

Lace the coffee of their vetsin-noodle eating Chink chimps for their “masters” with arsenic!

  34. EQ’s suggestion:

    EQ said…ANA

    IDEA:
Follow What Angry Waiters Do To Rude Customers:SPIT IN THEIR FOOD!

    EQ

  35. Well, that’s the social norm,if you are uneducated and poor, people will not respect you,Even your family and government will disown you because you could not contribute financially. The stem of moral is low.Even in the local government, the BIR knows who are paying taxes and those who weren’t.

Poor people are being manipulated and victim of abuse. To the poor man who is trying to earn a living enough to get food, clothing and shelter together to keep the body and spirit of himself and his family together and alive, the rich look upon the poor as his slaves.

A testament to the adage that when you have power (money) you make up the rules, but when you lack it you follow everyone else s. A guy walks up to someone on the street and robs him at gun point for 500 pesos, and if he’s caught , worst case scenario, he remains in jail for the better part of the duration of his life for the trouble he caused that one person. But a rich man like Celso Delos Angeles steals million and millions, as in and potentially ruins the lives of millions of people, and he hires a soulless lawyer who either gets him off, or reduces his sentence.

That’s life, poor people are always the subject of insults.

This is my doctrine to my children, get education, education is empowerment equates to richness and success.

  36. My European family came from a long line of colonials and had been part of the Western powers that flogged and caned the Chinese in filthy, grubby, polluted (and sitll filthy, grubby and polluted) China, now known as Red China!

Chinese servants attended to their needs and when they didn’t do things properly, they were caned — and quite rightly too — but now after these Chinks were admitted to our universities, they thought they were better than what they truly are, i.e., savage, spitting, good for nothing little human monkeys.

    How they make me laugh.

We have a saying: Once a savage, always a savage.

The author of the article just confirmed it! Frankly, any abusive Chink should be hung, drawn and quarterecd! Pity we don’t do that anymore…

  37. My Fellow Pinoys In Hongkong (especially Luisa):

Get your revenge quickly (“Lintik lang ang walang ganti!”*) IF you have a RUDE or NASTY chink boss like Chip Tsao (see his picture below):

1)One thing that everyone’s afraid of is someone spitting in their food.

2)Don’t wash your hands after coming from the toilet and prepare his special noodle of the day.

3)Teach his kids “Intsik Beho Tulo Laway” nursery rhyme.Tell the chink it means “Long Live Chairman Mao!”

    * “Hell hath no fury like a Pinay scorned!”

  38. syria syria

Chip Tsao is so rude and unfair treating the defenseless Filipino maids as hostages for China’s claim on the Spratlys. He is a coward and like his motherland, a bully he is dead scared to fight someone his own size. He does not think like a well-educated writer he failed to mention the legalities in his claim but instead lazily used those innocent maids to support his thesis.

This however may backfire on Chip if the Filipino maids will stay respectable, decent and show they are much worth than just maids.

  39. Hehehehe!

    Excellent, EQ, just excellent!

The best part one is no. 2!!! Heheh! Yeah, stir pandemonium in HK by causing an epidemic of diarrhea! Heh! That will wipe these nasty Chinks out bit by bit! (What’s a few million less Chinks in this world, particularly if they are the type of this degenerate Chip Tsao! Heh!

Chip Tsai shrieks in his Chinese beho manner (in Chinese of course): “Where did that cigar come from?”

    His Chinese replies nervously: “I don’t know… I suppose I was smoking it…”

Of course, lil yellow monkey Chip Tsai shrieks again: “If you don’t tell me where it came from, I will strangle you!”

And suddenly, a soft Chinese whisper came out of the wardrobe: “It cam from Havana, Chip Tsao!”

    Dear Cheap Chow:

Let me guess how your life went so far:
    1. Half gweilo, half Hongkie
    2. Never been quite accepted by your gweilo relatives(white devil translation, it’s how they call anyone with white skin)
    3. Wondering why I look different?

    6. Can never say the letter R properly till now, whereas it rolls off your gweilo relatives tongues so easily. C’mon, say MT Aluuu..(MTR) or BBQ ( cannot pronounce baRbeque)
    7. How about the letter “Wi” ? That’s a V you know. Say it, vvvvvvvvv
    8. Owns only 3 pairs of trousers good without washing for a month.
    9. Picks your teeth with the MTR ticket.
    10. Obsessed with money, will probably jump out the window if you lose yours, as you don’t have anything else to live for.

    14. Fag or lusting after Louisa but can’t get it up.

  45. “Called names by your Brit classmates”

Hah-hah! Can very well imagine that short of being physically kicked around like a ball, Chip Tsao suffered the indignities of being called a little yellow monkey or little slit eyed rat or when to be being charitble to him, they said, “Hello there, lil Peking Duck fella!” Heheh!

  46. Ciao! Have fun!

Don’t let the Chinks get you. You might catch yellow fever.

    Night night!

  47. You know, I’m happy with all your comments. Despite our being critical with ourselves, we take pride in being Filipino and we won’t allow a lousy foreigner to insult us.

    That’s the spirit.

But we should not stop at that. We should ask why we are in this situation that our women have to work in other people’s houses, in foreign lands, as maids. While leaving their own children to jobless husbands, aging parents, and busy relatives.

We should work to reverse that situation. Let’s be the masters in our own homes.

  48. It’s better than calling us “A Nation of Slaves”. While as a Filipino I’m very offended; the question is do they have the basis for saying so and do we deserve it? Decades ago, we were looked up as among the strongest economically and militarily in Asia. Even during the time of Marcos when there was also rampant corruption, the country was not far behind in Asia. Today, this evil Arroyo government has caused this shameful branding of the country as “A Nation of Servants”.

  49. Mon Mon

    AdeBrux – “…should be challenged.”

Yes, that is the word. And my biased view is, the on-going challenge is to focus on the tasks at hand how to reform our benighted socio-cultural-political system to the point wherein we remove, if not minimize, the need for our countrymen to be treated like trained parrots.

What Mr. Chao wrote is revolting, this is given. The challenge for me is how do I react to something ugly but true?

There was even his note about us having Barack Obama backing us. This is not reassuring at all. Remember Tianamen Square? Young Chinese students were murdered for standing up for their beliefs. Yet, because the world is mostly populated by people whose sense of morality is always negotiable. Mainland China’s market is more important to the “civilized” world and the billions simply swept that murderous event under the “free market” rug.

Simply put – the “Filipino team” must first coalesced into a solid team. To “fight” Mr. Chip’s cheap fight (pun intended) will simply divert the dwindling energy of those who are doing their own quiet thing to effect the changes we all aspire for. Before we stand up to the challenge of Mr. Chip, there is one bigger problem – GMA.

Of course, our “diplomats” can fire away their note verbale, the newspapers can make some brisk sales carrying the story. But at the end of the day – Mr. Chip is who and what he is. GMA is who and what she is.

One is “Chinese,” the latter is a “Filipino.” The other challenge is – to go beyond labelling, and to focus on the issues that can be addressed, in particular to our country’s case – the blight of OWF syndrome.

The bigger challenge as I see it is for Filipinos to be the opposite of these two personalities.

    Cheers 🙂

  50. calling the filipinos a nation of slaves will not make chip shit any better than us. hay naku.. I cannot be upset. it’s not good for me 🙂

  51. Sad to hear our nation called a”NATION of SLAVES”,if perhaps our LEADERS are not traveling too much to seeks “Jobs, WORKS and TRABAHO in another country, for an ailing economy, for our hungry kababayan, those people with slanderous tongue won’t be able to open their faulty mouth. When a human used thier minds and muscles,to get paid for it,he or she is a servant.THAT why even the wealthies in this entire planets still a servants.Peddling your constituents to another nation as worker, are like goods for exports.

You are right Ellen, let us be constructive on Chip’s negative critism. Below are some points we can consider to improve our country.

1- Good governance. Eliminate immorality in our government.
2- Be nationalistic. Believe in what we have and improve if not competitive.
    3- Develop industrial businesses.
4- Vigilance on global trading to counter neoliberalism.
5- Promote peace and order to promote tourism and foreign investments.

  53. MrG MrG

If we allow our leaders (masters) to treat us like slaves, why would we expect others to treat us differently? Look at the families, (dynasties that have been controlling us notwithstanding a constitutional provision against it) that are acting with the same arrogance of the previous colonizers. Unless we get rid of this feudal system of governance, that means the entire nation deserves it.

  54. Chip’s tongue is stuck so far into his cheek, one cannot possibly use this article to attribute anything to Chip personally.

I’ll go out on a limb though and postulate that he no more thinks the Philippines is a Nation of Slaves than Jonathan Swift thought poor children should be sold as food for wealthy families

  55. pugong_gala0101 pugong_gala0101

So, this is what patriotism is to a freak employing our kababayan maid?

If the article was read by gloria, what would she do? Aaaah, maybe she’ll just shrug her shoulders and say to herself “Who cares? That’s not me (the maid)”.

For an administration so much dependent on human export, what can a shitting president do to protect her “goods” thinking she owes much from the government of the country where the poor househelp was deployed? Can she file a protest? Or can she demand public apology from the writer?

    Hohummmm!

Motive 101! If Chip was an Aeta Katutubo, are these discussions/articulations germane? You only need to focus on internal racism, prejudism, biases – that stuff happens on a daily basis and pretty much swept under.

Forgive Chip, he’s got an open mind but a hole in the head.

  58. From Ruffy Biazon’s Facebook wall:

I have come to some theories why I think he (Chip Tsao) wrote that article:

    1. His mother fed him milk which had melamine, produced from their country’s factories that have very low quality control standards.

    2. As a child, he chewed on his lead-paint-coated toys also produced from their low-quality factories.

    3. As he grew up, he always had siopao which were filled with imitation meat made of cardboard.

    4. He was supposed to be aborted by the State, but somehow, the abortion tool only managed to tear off half his brain and he survived.

    5. He had psychological trauma because he wanted so bad to join the Chinese Olympic Gymnastics team but he was rejected by the State because he couldn’t tell which was right and left (owing to having only half a brain)

    6. He harbors ill feelings towards Filipinos who are given worldwide recognition for being good English communicators while he, even though being educated in a British colony, is still asked to repeat over and over again what he is saying because of the heavy Chinese accent in his English. So, he tries to prove his worth by writing.

    7. He has an insatiable lust for Filipinas but he keeps getting turned down because of his revolting facial features, incurable halitosis and extremely small penis.

    8. He is trying to gain attention because as a child and even up to his teenage days, he was so insignificant that nobody noticed his existence.

    9. His own country ignores him, so he takes a shot at the Filipinos in the hope that we would react to him, finally gaining recognition for his pathetic existence on Earth.

    10. He was bullied when he was a kid and always pissed and shit in his pants out of fear but never had the chance or even the courage to fight back. So he picks a fight with his own employee, or people who live overseas, confident that he will not get a fist in the eye for doing so.

  59. Will Villanueva Will Villanueva

The comments are as valuable as the article itself. We Filipinos are ready to fight a common enemy anytime and boy, do we know how to fight. But if the fight is about changing ourselves, no one comes to the center of the ring. Too serious, too gloomy, dyan na kayo.

  60. kabute kabute

If every comment and reaction to Cheap Chow’s article were made of foul material he’d be drowning and choking in deep shit. But that is not the sad thing here. The sad thing is if adverse action against any Chinese or anything Chinese takes place. For example, Filipino servants lacing their Chinese masters’ food or drink with Chinese toxic materials. Or maybe in the case of Louisa, washing Cheap Chow’s dining utensils in the toilet bowl while doing the cleaning, or maybe boiling toilet water as water for Cheap Chow’s favorite tea. That would really be very sad, and all because Cheap Chow chose to insult a people rendering an honorable service to the like of him and his family. I don’t thing Cheap Chow has the balls (he may really have none) to apologize. He will just rationalize and wait till all cools down. But like I said, if all comments and reaction were made of foul material, he is now in deep shit. He will fear his servant and any Filipino looking individual. He’ll be always watching his back, front, left and right for fear of being harmed because of what he wrote. Poor man. Have pity on him.

This is all Gloria’s fault, making Pinas a “nation of servants”! She rather send all pinoys to overseas jobs as maids and servants in order for the remittances to continue flowing to Pinas treasury to save her fake economy and onto her bottomless pockets than to create jobs in the country.

I’m wondering what’s the reaction of Louisa, Chip Tsao’s maid.

Did she just take it meekly?

Chip Tsao’s arrogance is condemnable but we should also look at our situation. Aren’t we indeed a “nation of servants”? Why have we come to this?

  64. Patton Patton

It hurts but it is true.

Isn’t that the policy of the Philippine government? Unable to provide jobs for the people, it makes as policy the export of manpower including thousands of women, mostly mothers, to work as domestic helpers.

Are we surprised why we are not respected by other nations?

  65. STC-HK STC-HK

I have a feeling that Cheap Tsao may not even be from HongKong. Hong Kong People do not think the way this cheap fellow does.We know the sacrifices of Filipinos in Hong Kong and their contribution to our economic growth .I am saddened by his low-class article because other countries might think HK people are racist. We are definitely not. I agree with some opinions that Cheap Tsao’s article is purely a product of his sick mind. he has no place on Hong Kong society. To Mr Cheap Tsao, please move out of Hong Kong go to a country where your kind of article and thinking is acceptable.

  66. teddy agbayani teddy agbayani

though i am really angered by what the hongkong guy said, i am more saddened because we as a nation has sunk so deep in the eyes of the world that we can’t do anything to defend our territory – what more our integrity and pride as a people.

the person i want to blame for all of this is gloria macapagal arroyo and her cohorts. her corrupt ways and mafia style of running the government has led to more hardships for our people, driving millions of filipinos abroad under the mercy of godless people like mr. cheap tsao.

if only the government stops all forms of corruptions then our economy will surely improved and we will see a stop to the migration of our father or mother that leads to dysfunctional families.

gloria, ikaw ang may kasalanan ng lahat. if we want to regain our honor and pride, let us drive gloria and the other corrupts away.

  67. As the saying goes: Truth Hurts. Many of us do silently acknowledge that we’re indeed “A Nation of Servants”. First of all, aren’t Filipinos and Filipinas working as servants for the Chinese in the Philippines? Sometimes, it takes a foreigner to remind us of this painful but true reality.

  68. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

Louisa should feed Chinaman Chip Tsao with melamine-tainted food products to revitalize his monkey brain. It would be better if pimp Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Chip Tsao are stone to death at Statue Square.

  69. Mike Mike

I have some “Chink” blood running through my veins too and I’m not ashamed of it. What I’m ashamed of is knowing that there’s a “Chink” named Chip Tsao who is a disgrace not only to the Chinese race but a disgrace to humanity too. It is unfortunate that because of one idiot’s stupid article, the negative reaction was instead geared towards the Chinese as a whole. Sure, there are rotten eggs among the Chinese race but that doesn’t mean all Chinese are like this asshole named Chip Tsao.
What this turd have written about my country the Philippines should be condemned not only be the Filipinos but the Chinese or Tsinoys as well.
This guy or this shit should be hanged. Bwisit at gago itong ulol na Chip Tsao na ‘to.

  70. Mike Mike

This turd has no right to insult us Filipinos or anyone else for that matter. He should instead look at himself in the mirror and ask himself why he even existed in this planet. Or he should ask his own mother why she she has to bore someone like him who’s brain is placed inside his groin.

    Chip is Sinocentric racist.

Excerpt of his works from Wiki.

His work, both on radio and in his columns, concentrates on the following subjects:

    · Exposure of his Sinocentrism by writing articles against British expats and Filipina maids/nurses.

Sinocentrism is any ethnocentric perspective that regards China to be central or unique relative to other countries. In pre-modern times, this took the form of viewing China as the only civilization in the world, and foreign nations or ethnic groups as “barbarians”. In modern times, this can take the form of according China significance or supremacy at the cost of other nations.

  73. Looking at his face, now I know why abortion is pushed by China. He’s also dumb and stupid I think his brain wouldn’t fill an M&M.

I don’t want to be racist with Chip Tsao, I have a Hong Konger in my family tree. And he’s been hanging there for years.

  74. Hooray, no spam blocker!

And I’ve been told that the web’s been acting funny the past months because the Chinese have been hacking into systems of private and gov’t networks in over a hundred countries in search of Dalai Lama data which they steal using worms and other viruses. I searched the net to confirm this and I found this:

A cyber spy network based mainly in China hacked into classified documents from government and private organizations in 103 countries, including the computers of the Dalai Lama and Tibetan exiles, Canadian researchers said Saturday…

…The researchers detected a cyber espionage network involving over 1,295 compromised computers from the ministries of foreign affairs of Iran, Bangladesh, Latvia, Indonesia, Philippines, Brunei, Barbados and Bhutan. They also discovered hacked systems in the embassies of India, South Korea, Indonesia, Romania, Cyprus, Malta, Thailand, Taiwan, Portugal, Germany and Pakistan.

Once the hackers infiltrated the systems, they gained control using malware — software they install on the compromised computers — and sent and received data from them, the researchers said…

  75. Mike, many of us have “Chink” blood (isn’t this derogatory?). The Chinese were in the Philippines longer than the Spaniards.
If many of us have Spanish blood, the more we do of Chinese.

The truth is, there’s no full Filipino identity. Tell me, is there a so called pure Filipino? Perhaps the Aetas. Look at each one’s features and skins.

  76. Mike Mike

    BE,

You don’t need to be a full blooded Filipino to become a true Filipino. It’s in the heart. Our national hero Jose Rizal has Chinese blood running through his veins too and yet, he died for his country, our beloved Philippines.

  77. Then, why do you call the Chinese “Chink”? Do you now call Dr. Jose Rizal a “Chink”? Cheer!

  78. Huwag sanang pag-awayin, o kahit gatungan na mag-away ang mga Pinoy, Tsinoy, at Chinese-turned Filipino citizens. Kung tayu-tayo ang nagkagulo, then cheap tsao would have won. There’s nothing wrong with being a servant. Everybody serves somebody. Filipinos are good servant-leaders. Ang pangit sa ginawa ni cheap tsao ay kung paano niya tratuhin ang kanyang kasambahay.

Anyway, it’s easy for me to believe about the Chinese wreaking havoc on the Internet.

  81. From Parañaque Rep. Roilo Golez:

“He does not know that there are many Hong Kong and multinational companies where key management positions are held by Filipinos. If Filipinos stop going to Hong Kong, their economy would collapse. I propose a six month boycott of Hong Kong and let’s see what will happen to their shops and hotels. We can do without going to HK and HK products.”

  82. However, Hongkong is the favorite destination of our corrupt politicians and officials. Even movie stars go there for shopping and vacation. I presume grizzy if she’s around would agree with the author of the above article.

  83. Gabriela Gabriela

“Regime of islands” lang nga ang Spratlys at Scarborough islands sa ginawang baseline ni Gloria.

Kung si Sen. Trillanes lang ang masusunod, pati Scarborough island kasama ng baseline ng Pilipinas.

Support ako sa proposal ni Congressman Golez.

  84. dandelionne dandelionne

Well,if the Philippines is the nation of servants,HongKong is the territory where people maltreat people,a vibrant and higly-advanced city but with citizens who have monggo seed for a brain, who discriminates and are way too ignorant about other cultures. To sum it up: A city whose citizens murders people who comes from a nation of servants.

  85. parasabayan parasabayan

The Bitch launched a “super maid” labor training not too long ago. So what Tsao says may very well be a reality for most Filipinos for a while until we change our way of life. We have to be more responsible for creating lives, meaning, do not create children we can not educate, feed and employ. Until we respect life, nobody in the world will respect us. It is sad but true.

We have the best scientists, educators, doctors, nurses, administrators. Most of the “maids” migrating to other countries are educated but can not find jobs in our country. Until jobs are generated for our countrymen so they will not be “slaves” in other countries, we will always be branded as such.

  86. Mike Mike

Roilo Golez: “I propose a six month boycott of Hong Kong and let’s see what will happen to their shops and hotels. We can do without going to HK and HK products.”

Easy to say that, but I doubt even 1 percent of Pinoy’s will comply. For all we know, a lot of our bakasyonistas are already there in HK shopping to their heart’s delight. Sad, but true.

  87. Valdemar Valdemar

Almost everyone here acted like small kids calling names and forgot the teachings in the later edition of the bible to offer the other cheek. I would tire casting all the first stones.

I am a little bothered with what Syria said… “This however may backfire on Chip if the Filipino maids will stay respectable, decent and show they are much worth than just maids.” Is there something here that we dont know yet?

  88. The best thing we can do to settle this “word war” between Golez and Chip Tsao is inside the ring on a boxing match. The loser will take place the job of there housemaids for 6 months.Same with Risa Hontiveros and Chip Tsao’s mamasang they need to settle this quarrel on a mud wrestling match.

  89. Imagine this: In the sea between the Philippines and China, sits something called the Mischief Reef, part of the disputed Spratly Islands, which are claimed by both countries. Say China decides to seize the reef by military force and Hong Kong’s large Filipino community takes to the streets, demanding that Manila strike back. Such a demonstration would amount to sedition. Foreigners in Hong Kong defending their country’s sovereignty would be branded as traitors.

  90. aica aica

In fact, without him and his stupid brain, the world will be a better place to live in.

  91. TruBlue TruBlue

    >If Filipinos stop going to Hongkong, their economy will collapse< – Golez

What a clown. It’s not going to affect Hongkong’s economy one bit, Filipino politicians are not big on spending – they go there to launder the people’s money.

Golez should convince Gluerilla to stop tourists visas for HK for six months and see what happens. Nothing.

  94. Ellen,

“The reason: there are more than 130,000 Filipina maids working as $3,580-a-month cheap labor in Hong Kong.”

    Just wondering…

How many Chinese are there in the Philippines taking advantage of the largesse that the Philippines has on offer, and continue to take advantage of its resources, people, its lax laws, etc., without which had their grandfathers, uncles, aunts, parents, etc., stayed back in chaotic dirty China would still be wallowing in harrowing poverty?

How many Chinese of criminal minds are there in the Philippines who are engaged in drug trafficking and all sorts of traficking?

How many Chinese are in the Philippines who have made their fortune in the Philippines with the help and sweat of Filipinos?

How many Chinese are there in the Philippine who are engaged in corrupt activities?

How many Chinese have bribed their way to obtaining their “legal” papers in this country?

How many Chinese are there in the Philippines who are tax evaders?

How many Chinese have abused their employees on our soil?

Boy, how I wish someone with balls in this country could replicate what Marcos did when he had a Chinaman executed for drug trafficking.

A good satirist aims and fires at a spot-on target, and there should be no confusion on who’s the target/s, whatever the education of the reader. Tsai’s apparent target has been to ridicule his country’s hypocritical muscle flexing and there he succeeded (rating: 9.5 out of 10).

But he should pay for the collateral damage he incurred for practicing his “craft” — in this instance, domestic helpers, who only happened to be Filipinos. And whoa, using that phrase – “a nation of servants” (was that really necessary? using a sweeping generalization even in the spirit of sarcasm is an indicator of a bird-brain or maybe he was absent when journalism ethics was taught). If he was trying to be “literati” suave ala James Bond, then what a lousy agent he was in this outing – 007 doesn’t shoot at non-combatants, even by mistake.

Maybe the funny haircut and the cheap-looking jacket of this Tsai guy smiling for the camera should give us an indication of his innards – the innards of a worm – one kind who cares only about writing in “style” and becoming a “best-selling” author by any means.

No amount of literary know-how could cover up for a case of boorish behavior, though, I may be willing to concede that it may not have been his intention to malign DHs — still, where does boorish behavior originate?. He did it, just because he could — that is, indiscriminately pick on a particular group of people who can’t defend themselves at face value.

Use his maid Luisa as cannon fodder, instead of socking it to particular Beijing pols, or if the case of the Philippines, the lords over Pasig in Manila who have the power over foreign policy. Cowardly and lazy.

By the way, that Wikipedia entry on him, I bet he put it up himself. LOL

The damaged has been done, the insult has been published, it iss useless to blame others (e.g. tsinoy chinese sa pinas chinaman, gloria arroyo etc…), or even blame “cheap tsao”, it was his opinion, no matter how many protest we do, it wont make our lives better. We should just turn a deaf ear and proceed with our plans, ekanga “duraan ka sa mukha, punasan mo at magpatuloy ka lang” lets focus on rebuilding our nation, fixing our country and make our future generations proud. Maraming problema rin kasi tayo sa pinas, karamihan mas gusto maging american citizen or canadian, nagsisi alisan sa bansa dahil mas mababa ang sahod, tapos mag papa alipin sa dayuhan at magagalit tayo kapag nababastos, dapat mahalin natin ang bansa, we should support and make sacrifices for our future generations, para hindi na nila maranasan ang sakit ng ma-insulto. I am offended and with “cheap tsao” telling me my country is a nation of servants just gives me the initiative to do better for a new Philippines. Nag aalab ang damdamin ko para lalong magsipag sa bansa ko.

I hope Mr. Chip Tsao reads our comments. Mr Tsao, you are a columnist, most claim your articles are merely satirical, however remember even in satire lies sliver of true (albeit hidden) issues felt by the columnist. Your article reminds me of slave owners in the US before the civil war. Self righteous bigots….and racist who cant seem to look beyond the color of the skin, creed, political affiliation and religion.

You should also remember that the Chinese is at few times played as a stereotypical servant in most western media, As an asian I am outraged at any form of discrimination against ANY asian, we asians should support each other rather than bringing each other down. Now, should I also give unfair bias against the “tsinoys”or chinese… definitely not. I will not judge a whole nation based on a stupid article of an ignorant man just as you Mr. Tsao should not discriminate against other people.
“As a nation of servants, you don’t flex your muscles at your master, from whom you earn most of your bread and butter.”— you words… but remember, who makes your meals, takes care of your children, make your lives easier, its the “servants”. Louisa, kababayan, i suggest you find a better employer, there’s no telling what he will do to you, he might lynch you like he’s a slave driver.

When the Jordanians throw our maids out their windows no one gives a hoot. No apologies asked, no name callings. At least now our president is asking the Chinese for an apology, taas pa ang kilay. Next, I hope she will ask the world for branding us the number one corrupts. Hope she will ask the American wives apology for branding our doctors output of Recto University. She might forget to ask for apology for the comfort women of yesteryears and now. And an apology for putting the meaning of a Filipina as a prosti in a foreign dictionary if I heard it right. Hope she wil ask for an apology from the WB report involving the FG. Sana kuwartahin na lamang ang mga apologies.

May I therefore declare war… All Filipino around the world vs Cheap Tsao, aka Chip Tsao of HK magazine…

My fellow Filipinos, let’s bring our claws out, and slash this awful journalist who was probably fed by his Mother with milk containing melanin, that’s why his level of thinking is not good. or perhaps his mother didn’t teach him about respecting people.

    AdeBrux,

I am also proud to belong to a nation of servants as long as they are of our brother Filipinos. It is because our race is more superior than a nation of masters if it is only that of the Chinese or that of the Americans like Flash Gordon.

  111. jose miguel jose miguel

Let us transform our rage into energy. Let us recover that beautiful, republican and independent nation of ours- Filipinas which was born in 1898 when we became united and independent from Spain. We had our national government, a developing constitution, a national language, an academia militar and a Filipino Army. We had a proud race.

It was grabed from us when the Americans invaded us in 1899. Proud as we were, we resisted fiercely. 200,000 to 900,000 of us Filipinos died in that invasion. Our physiscal resistance weakened but we still put up other forms of resistance.

The Americans provided protection to collaborating Filipinos among us. They harrased, tortured, eliminated or outlawed those among us who resisted them.

  112. “Let us transform our rage into energy. Let us recover that beautiful, republican and independent nation of ours- Filipinas which was born in 1898 when we became united and independent from Spain.”

    Agree, Jose Miguel!

We may be their servants, but we are never their slaves and they are never our masters. USSR failed in Afghanistan, the Philippines will be the Afghanistan of China if Kalayaan islands dispute turns into a shoot out.

  115. jose miguel jose miguel

Whatever strength sill left of us, we mustered them in resisting any form of foreign invasion, just to hold at bay total national capitulation. We resisted the Chinese who have been dislodging us Filipinos from our economic bases. But with the mighty military behind to back them up, the Americans, provided constitutional protection to the Chinese. They wanted our economy to remain weak so that we will remain dependent on them and therefore perpetually submit to all their dictates.

Meanwhile, from a pool of traitor Filipinos among us, the Americans injected their Heritage Injuring Virus. It developed corruption of our original defense system, education system, political system, culture and every system of our national life. This corrupted the development of a whole new generation of Filipinos. Resistance to foreign invaders particularly the Americans and the Chinese decreased to an insignificant level. This has been replicated from generation to generation.

As a result, our identity has been lost. Those among us who have access to political, legislative and judiciary power do not have any love for us Filipinos. Having lost the Filipino identity these collaborators perform their functions for the benefit of only themselves and their foreign masters. This can be observed even today as GMA has been giving away our assets to the Chinese and the Americans (Spratleys, ZTE Broadband, US military exercises in our terrain, American rapist exemption from our local jails, creating circumstances that facilitate job scarcity in our country and promotion of us Filipinos serving foreigners abroad just to survive, etc.). This can be observed even today as GMA continues to turn us Filipinos into servants of Americans and Chinese, here in our own home! These are the symptoms of an Alienated Identity and Defense Syndrome. This is the advanced stage of the national infection of Heritage Injuring Virus.

Now that we know what our original identity is, now that we know where our original home is, now that we know what is the cause of our having lost it, let us spread the news to all our brother Filipinos. Then, we can act in unity and in the right direction. Where we will be our own masters. Where we will recover our original superior race, as superior as any nation on earth. That direction is towards where we will recover our own home- Filipinas!

I am a Filipina with Chinese roots and I can say this with great pride every single time — until i knew about this “CHIP TSAO”.

“As a nation of servants, you should not flex your muscles at your masters, from whom you earn most of your bread and butter.” – CHIP (so cheap) TSAO

HE says the Filipinos earn from them? I say, who are in Divisoria (place in the Philippines where people buy goods) selling fruits, fresh in appearance but rotten inside, packed “very well” to fool people, selling fake, pirated and low quality items to people (mostly Filipinos) and who are their SOURCE of bread and butter? I say, if Filipinos are domestic helpers, but earn because of their hard work, perseverance, love for their jobs and simply because they WORKed for it and DESERVE it, and if “OTHERS” , who see their selves as MASTERS, superiors, earn because of their deception of other people, because of ‘tactics’ of fooling people and use what they earn to feed themselves, who should be grateful to who? and who should be seen as the inferior ones? As they say, “YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT” and if they eat crap (corrupted), they are crap as well.

Again, I am a Filipina. —NOTHING FOLLOWS—

  118. vivei vivei

Huh! that tsai does not even deserve to be addressed with a respectable ‘Mr.’ what he wrote was totally trash but he doesn’t deserve all this attention. That’s what he’s famous for, satire. It’ll make him wealthier for all we know.

  119. The fact is we’ve been colonized and dominated by foreigners for many centuries. Our culture, religion, traditions and language were adapted from them. So, we cannot totally dispute being branded as this and that…simply because we allow them to do so. If we want to have our full identity as Filipinos, then let’s not wear foreign brand clothes, eat Chinese foods, stop watching foreign movies, stop listening foreign music, return to our old ways and religious beliefs….If we do all these, what becomes of us?

  120. Chip Tsao just showed that he is one of the drumbeaters of Chinese imperialism in Asia, picking on our country just because we have countrymen as domestic helpers. He also indirectly challenged the United States to do battle against Red China in the Spratlys.

If Chip Tsao and his supporters (if he has any) are coercing our countrymen to declare that the Spratlys belongs to China, then we Filipinos must shout back in one voice that “the Spratlys belong to one country and one country alone–The Philippines”.

  121. turtlefist turtlefist

I wonder why he ended up as a writer anyway? why write such useless junk?
Did he ever try to learn about writing and Good Journalism? That guy has so much guts (or maybe his mind was cluttered with all those useless air.) to write something like that to Filipinos, ha! he should at least know we dominate the World Wide Web! He should be careful walking down the streets now.

Those Chinese politicians must at least do something against that article or they should face humiliation for allowing such trash ‘he’ calls article to ever be printed in a magazine.

    Mabuhay ang mga Pinoy!
Subukan lang ng Chip na yan tumuntong dito.
    Magsisisi siyang isinilang sa mundo.

  122. Any abusive Chink should be hung, drawn and quarterecd!

Really a pity we don’t do that anymore….

  123. Here’s a rehash of the Wikipedia definition: Hanged, drawn and quartered

    1) The condemned man (Chip Tsao), would usually be sentenced to the short drop method of hanging, so that the neck would not break.

    2) The man (Chip Tsao) will be dragged alive to the quartering table, (although in the past, men were brought to the table dead or unconscious).

    3) A splash of water will be employed to wake Chip Tsao if unconscious, then he will be laid down on the table.

    4) A large cut will be made in his gut (stomach) after removing the genitalia, and the intestines will be spooled out on a device that resembled a dough roller.

    5) Each piece of Chip Tsao’s organ will be burned before his eyes, and when he is completely disembowelled (emptied of his innards), his head will be cut off.

    6) His body will then be cut into four pieces, and his maid (is it Linda or Louisa?) will decide where they will be displayed.

    7) The head may be sent to Malacanang in order to show (Gloria Macapagal Arroyo that unless she stops enforcing her cheap human labour traficking instead of doing the right thing to ensure that the Filipino people have jobs at home, she, Gloria “bansot” Macapagal) will also be hanged, drawn and quaretered.)

8.) The other four pieces of Chip Tsao will be sent to the different parts of the country.

    9) The head will be par-boiled in brine to preserve the appearance of the head in display, while the quarters will be prepared in pitch (and stuck in the middle of the largest HK square) for longer-lasting deterrent displays.

  124. funny how we try to defend our race. funnier how later, we find ourselves arguing with our co-defenders.

  125. Simple, As I’ve said earlier on…

The Filipinos can shit on each other, spit at each other, castigate each other, even punch each other’s nose, but it is totally another matter when a foreigner, particularly, a bloody Red Chinese/Chinky vetsin-noodle eater and lead infested brain does it to us!

Filipinos must forget their grievances against each other in the face of a common foreign enemy and train their guns, their keyboards, their typewriters, their siopaos, their noodles, or whatever to do a tit for tat!

Nothing less… Of course, those who prefer to take the easy way out by accepting the spittle of another may do so as it is their absolute right to surrender without lifting a finger.

  126. Such.Is.Life Such.Is.Life

Mr. Chip Tsao, with all the respect I can muster toward another human, I am VERY proud to be servant (or a citizen of a nation of servants). I gather you prefer to be a citizen of mass murderers (through your government-sanctioned abortions and your continuing support for North Korea, Sudan, etc.), a citizen of money-driven fraudsters (melamine tainted milk products), and a citizen of goons (why are you so scared of the Dalai Lama?)…
I am sure many more can add to these…
I hope you are sleeping well….

  127. madonna,
I am also sooo pissed with the “intellectuals” trying hard to look sophisticated by taking Cheap Chow’s side and dismissing our collective anger because we “missed the satire” completely. Of course not!

I respect his right to vent his issues against his gov’t, I even support it. But doing so at the expense of the entire nation is by any measure, foul. There are limits to one’s creative license, racism is definitely high on the list.

What is sad is that in the long list of comments at the bottom of the webpage of the HK Mag article, as simple (March 31st, 2009 at 12:10 am) said, “we find ourselves arguing with our co-defenders”.

  128. Who's the Bigger Fool? Who's the Bigger Fool?

I address this to all Filipinos all over the world: Take heart. You have one thing so very precious that Chip will never ever have in his lifetime: FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

The Filipinos can write and expose the bad things about their government officials – I challenge Mr. Chip Tsao to do the SAME for his government.

So, who is the bigger fool now?

  129. Ang daming newcomers! Ellen, allow me to do the honors.

To all our new friends in Ellentordesillas.com or those old readers who only submitted comments now, WELCOME!

  130. At the very least Mr. Tsao picked a bad subject matter to write, IMHO, a humorous piece about. Take it as that, ignore the damn fool and move on.

What is the tragedy is the existence of cause of his piece. Yet the OFW’s, many of them in servitude, is considered as a priceless asset by some people in “high” places who could could have done a lot of things to avert or greatly minimize that condition. Now THAT is more insulting.

What is equally funny (and ironic) is that there are two ads for “maid” agencies on top of this blog. Incredible.

  134. Pity, the Brits handed back HK to these China turds — frankly, these turds don’t deserve being handed back the island.

  135. Mr. Tsao should know that there is a thin line between satire and insult.

And making a satiric article (with the purpose of criticizing his government daw…) at the expense naman of other people makes him look like a man without balls.

Seriously. He should have the balls to go here in the Philippines just to know the situation and reasons why some Filipinos chose to become OFWs in foreign lands before trying to write this crap.

  136. Don’t believe it’s satire, not by a long shot; if that was this shitman’s purpose, he failed, and failed sriously – failed even to copy or immitate whoever his satire master was.

What’s funny, Chinks are known to be great prolific fakers but in the realm of vulgar fakes, Chip Tsai, couldn’t even even manage to fake satire!

You stupid Chinese! your maid is probably more educated than you. How dare you? You are not even fit to be in her presence. Your brain must be as dull as your vision. For how can you see with those – whatever you call eyes, more like slits of dark shit. Bow down and say Hail to us Filipinos for cleaning your stinky chinese filth, for breathing your stinky chinese stench and for being within your foul presence. I condemn you to a long life filled with disease, despair and misery. May your filthy family line end, may you see the rest of your days being hunted like an animal. I invite you to come to the “nation of servants” and we will teach you a lesson you will never forget, you ugly coward. I should not be addressing you as a person because you are a lowly life form.

  142. Les Miserables Les Miserables

    Oh, you, onion-skinned Filipinos…

Your collective reactions are more pathetic and more hurtful than Cheap’s article. You are much better communicators but please look up “satire” in a modern English dictionary.

Besides, why does it always take a foreigner to state the bloody obvious? It is high time for you guys to take your collective heads out of the sand…

You guys have said it yourselves: “Ang pumapatol sa gago…”

  143. “I may not agree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it?” This not to say that I am defending Cheap [Quick] Chow a.k.a. “Tsip Tsao” or “To Kit” [read singkit].

We need not to disagree much less “overreact” to what “Cheap Tsao” has written about us or, how he underestimated her domestic assistant who holds a degree in international politics from the University of Manila because he is just saying his “opinion.”

On the contrary, I congratulate him because he has written a topic that we Filipinos, perhaps, failed to think and write about.

For many years, we remained hostage from foreign interventions. For it, we protested so hard neither in writing nor in the streets. Yet, no one from our honorables–from the President down to the barangay kagawad–listen.

Here comes “Cheap Chow,” who has written a-not-so-nice to read “opinion” about our sisters and brothers working as “kasambahay” in his country. Working abroad has been every Filipino’s dream nowadays especially that domestic employment is very difficult to find. That is why we were lately told to just plant veggies.

“Cheap Chow” is just simply telling the Arroyo government that he is willing to help his government put up a war against “the nation of servants” should a war broke out over “Spratly.”

His contribution? Send her highly paid domestic assistant who holds a degree in international politics from the University of Manila straight to the Philippines.

I should say, Tsip Tsao is not using his brain but his “small penis.” Hehehehe!

“Cheap Chow’s” government should give him an award for being “brave” and for “love of country.” PWEEEEEEEEEEH!

  144. Nice thing about this blog is we get to read both sides of the issue.

  145. nice swipe on us (filipinos) mr. tsao.. but not enough.. and you definitely opened up the gates of hell between you and the filipinos. i was deeply insulted and irked at his column when he wrote that the Philippines is a “nation of servants”. i won’t hesitate to put up the “3 stars and a sun” logo on his dirty a** so he would know who is he messing with.. we want an direct apology from this “racist” columnist from Hong Kong over his remarks..

May pag-asa pa kaya tayo?

Why don’t we all dig up some dirt about this slit-eyed monkey and drag his name over and over again in stinking crap so he’ll know how much of in deep shit he is? Let it be that his name will be maligned everywhere and anywhere one opens to google/search his name online. If opinions is all that matters, then by UrAnus’ cupcakes we lot have got a ton of them up our sleeves. Let us teach this monkey why they still come to us to learn the English language. If it’s an eye for an eye, then we’ll be damned if we at least don’t make this an article for an article. And if he turn out to just not care, so what? A good lashing back is always better than pent up anger/rage.

    On the other hand…

Being a nation of servants is not bad at all if you look from another perspective. A Domestic Helper in HK or in any part of the world has a decent and legit job. And for all we know, they do it for a noble purpose.

And I find it amazing how some people connect Pres. Arroyo to this issue. I am no Pres. Arroyo supporter nor admirer, but bringer her to this topic does not make sense at all. Blaiming her and the gov’t for sending OFW’s? It is the individual worker him/herself who ultimately decides where he/she wants to go. I think it is far-fetched already. GMA may have a lot of mistakes, but she is not at fault here.
Whether we like it or not, labor migration will continue.

We have been to this event before– “Desperate Housewives”, “BBC TV program”, etc. We saw/heard so-called “Filipino-bashing” incidents, and it is good to see that we, despite of our bitter differences on many local issues, are united in uplifting our image. Hope this inspires us more to be better local and migrant workers, and be united in promoting our ‘good’ Filipino image.

On the sad note, we can not bring that unity to more practical purposes to progress this nation. For sure out of this, after some steam has been vented out…we will go on our normal ways. And this type of ‘insults’ will not be the last one, for as there is freedom of expression, this will just spawn in the future into other form.

Time to start on relfecting people…time to think of more positive ways to improve ourselves and our country, than dwelling on issues that will lead us to nowhere.

  161. Proud Servant Proud Servant

    Dear Mr. Tsao

I am a Filipino. You know, from the Philippines. Yes, that’s right, the nation of servants. Don’t say you have not heard of us.

Yes, sir, I am a servant. It is a badge I wear with honor and pride. I am a servant. That means I am not a moocher. I earn my keep through my own sweat and toil, not by charity or by pity.

Yes, I am a servant. It also means I am not a looter. I am paid by those I engage with for the services I render, not for bullying them into humiliation nor for threatening them any harm.

Yes, I am a servant. Because I believe there is no such thing as a lousy job. Only lousy men who do not care to do it.

    Have a good day.

  162. Elgraciosa Elgraciosa

    Tongue,
Sori…di ikaw! Wrong spelling…was sleepy na!

  163. Well, I would like to thank Chip Tsao, because he got me writing on my blog again, after quite sometime.

By the way, it’s his day today…

  164. The government has banned Tsao from entering the country. Hmmm…it’s very easy for him to bribe his way into the country. Wanna bet?

  165. the Philippines can be a nation of servants. When a country is run by corrupt officials, the people that live in it can all be servants when they sell their votes for money and elect the most corrupt mayor, congressman , senator and its president.

  166. norpil norpil

i think it is wrong to ban this guy from entering the country. he ought to be invited and led on the streets in manila with a name tag.

  167. norpil,

If they reversed the decision, what do you suggest should be on the name tag?

  168. Yilmaz Bektas Yilmaz Bektas

Hay, naku, kayo Pinoy, sobra O.A.

Konti tukso lang, eh, galit si kayo…

Saka, toots naman, di vah? Puro kayo DH, callboys, kargador, driver, janitor, factory workers…

Hanggang diyan lang kayo kaya quiet na kayo

    Yilmaz

  169. What? That was not even a joke from that Chinese writer. That was an insult and racist article !

  170. @Les Miserables,

You cannot blame others if they reacted collectively against this writer. Why? That’s how they felt upon reading Mr. Tsao’s satire.

Satire is a form of humor that is open to different interpretations (just like the publisher said) and it borders between making you laugh and making you feel insulted.

Nagkataon lang na this time, mali ang tirada ni Mr. Tsao.

  171. Gabriela Gabriela

To the ignoramus troll who posted under the hidden name of Yilmaz, may you die a slow and painful death. And may you be forgotten by those you love and have rabid dogs shit and piss on your grave.

You may find this humorous but to the rest of us with hearts still burning for the love of our country and for the name we pride to carry, this is one insult we cannot let slide on our backs with without baring our fangs.

  172. They say: “If you cannot defeat your enemy join them.” Why don’t we join Cheap Tsao in his “satiric brain.” Let us bombard this “singkit mata” Cheap Tsao will thrillion of e-mail a day. If you got his e-mail, please give me a copy, and I will e-mail him my satire opinion about him and his “fuckin wife”–and his kids too. Let us see how painful when somebody writes sarcastic opinion about him and his family. I am irked because, Filipinos have been generalized—and his opinion exempt no one but all Filipinos.

Mr. Chip Tsao should not even be allowed to hire a maid kung ganon sya kadumi sa bahay 16 hrs sa CR lang at bintana? ano bang klaseng tao sya.

ADB: name tag? His name plus “Spit on me”, and let a million chinese spit on him first. the chinese people are not so different from pinoys and for that matter other asians. humiliation is like losing honor/face.
