I’m observing the protests in Iran in awe and with envy.
The protests that have shaken Iran’s theocratic government stemmed from accusations that the June 12 election was a result of “massive and systematic fraud” perpetrated by the winning re-electionist President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
A government council tasked to investigate the complaints admitted that in some 50 constituencies there were more votes cast than there were registered voters.
The government has clamped down on street and internet protests. The two-week unrest has injured hundreds of people tear -gassed and pummeled by policemen.
Opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi, described by western media as a “popular reformist” has enjoined the people to assert their right saying “protesting lies and fraud is your right.”
New reports said at least 17 people have been killed including a 27-year old woman identified as Neda Agha Soltan, who was hit by a bullet during a rally. Neda has become a rallying figure in the Iranian people’s struggle for democracy, which they hoped to achieve through elections.
I marvel at the Iranian’s fervor for democracy even as they adhere to the rigid rule of the ayatollahs. I can’t help but compare the Iranians’ reaction to allegations of electoral fraud to ours when confronted with proofs of Gloria Arroyo’s cheating in the 2004 elections.
More votes than voters? That’s what happens in many provinces in the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao as Arroyo frantically moved to offset the lead of her rival, Fernando Poe Jr.
One glaring case was in the town of Panguntaran in Sulu where the number of registered voters was 11,080. But the total number of votes cast was 11,468.
In the Panguntaran municipal certificate of canvass, Arroyo had 716 votes while FPJ had 4,252. But in the statement of votes Arroyo’s numbers became 8,716 while that of FPJ was reduced to 2,252.
This irregularity and many more were raised by the opposition during the congressional canvassing but presiding officers Sen. Francis Pangilinan and then Rep. Raul Gonzalez just relegated them to their infamous “Noted.”
The ‘Hello Garci” tapes showed that Arroyo had a direct hand in the cheating in Panguntaran. In her call to then Comelec Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano on May 29, 2004, Arroyo asked about reports that the opposition had affidavits of teachers and Board of Canvassers that they were forced to tamper with election results.
Garcillano confirmed the fraud: “It’s true na yung nag-appear doon, nabaligtad si FPJ.”
Three days after, Arroyo and Garcillano talked again and he reported, “Kinausap ko na yung chairman of the board sa Sulu. Ang sa akin, pataguin ko na muna yung EO (election officer) ng Panguntaran para hindi sya makatestigo.”
It was in the Panguntaran operations that Garcillano complained to Arroyo that the figures in the certificate of canvass and the statement of votes didn’t match because Maj. Gen. Gabriel Habacon, then the commanding general of the First Infantry Division, did the cheating crudely. “Kasi sila Gen. Habacon ba, hindi masyadong marunong pa dyan. Nag-explain sa akin ang election officer ng Panguntaran,” Garcillano told Arroyo, who merely said, “Uhhm…”
The Hello Garci tapes were made public in June 2005 and people believed what they heard. Surveys show that majority of Filipinos believe that Arroyo’s presidency was acquired through fraud. A few rallies here and there were held but no outrage in level of February 1986 and Jan. 2001 that resulted in the overthrow of governments.
Emboldened by lack of warm bodies in the streets which Malacañang interprets as apathy, Arroyo now wants to tamper with the Constitution for her to stay in power beyond June 2010.
It seems that people in power are hard put to resist its corruptive lure and they forget lessons in history.
Thirty years ago, in January 1979, Iranians stunned the world when they drove away the powerful Shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.
They were responding to the call of the Imam Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, sent though cassette tapes from Paris where he was living in exile, asking them to rise against the extravagant, oppressive and Islam-irreverent regime of the Shah.
Ten months after, on Nov. 4, 1979, angry Iranian students seized the US embassy and held hostage 53 American personnel for more than two years.
Now, the streets of Iran are ablaze again.
As we try to rise from our lethargy, numbed by Arroyo’s destruction of our democratic institutions, we watch Iran sizzle.
When will we feel again the heat of 1986 to get rid of pandak? Filipinos should not get tired of mass actions as they helped us change our corrupt government as proven in the past.

In Lanao del Sur, there have been several complaints about vote padding, where FPJ got statistically improbable votes of ZERO in many towns. Their bewildered voters could only ask “Where did my vote (for FPJ) go?”.

You’re right. Poona Bayabao did it, with all the comelec people and a Lanao congressman vouching for that blatantly anomalous result.
But the sad thing is, FPJ did get zero votes, or the results simply reversed in favor of Gloria, in many precints in Lanao del Sur. We know that this thing happened because Gloria relieved Gen. Gudani, the Marine Commander at that time. The dagdag bawas (vote padding) was most successful throughout ARMM because of this collusion that Gloria and her dogs deny.
This is why Gloria is not respected by the people, except by those thieves in Congress like her.
Never before has a President of the United States stood on the sideline and failed to support people who are fighting a brutal dictatorship. When the leaders of France and Italy show more support for those who are fighting tyranny in Iran than our President, Americans have the wrong man in the White House.

In other words, the people are by their lonesome. As I see it, no amount of internet bombarding will affect her in any way. With all the ACES up her sleeve, she could very well care less about anything that is not to her liking. It is not about the Philippines, nor the Filipinos, nor of the constitution anymore. It is all about GLORIA and her survival at all cost. And while the people are waiting for a miracle to happen, gloria traipses around the globe with her entourage of lackeys at the people’s expense………rubbing elbows with the elite and the mighty while her fucking mouthpieces tell us that all the places she went to were mere “technical stops”.

There were stories that went around in Mindanao when FPJ was still alive that a Muslim will get mad if FPJ is shot at or killed in his movie. How then can this evil regime make us believe that FPJ got zero votes in many Muslim communities.
By the way, what happened to Habacon? I did not see his name in the list of generals appointed by the evil bitch nor was there any news account on him. Was it because he did not fare well in Garcillano’s report to the sociopath in the dagdag bawas operation? The opposition should find out if they can squeeze information from him.

Ang kaso dito nag simula ang madilim na nakaraan ng Hukbalahap… When it became evident that Manuel Roxas, whom the Huks accused of having been a collaborator, would run for the presidency the Huks allied themselves with the Democratic Alliance, a new political party, and threw their support behind President Sergio Osmeña. When Roxas won the Presidency, he instituted a campaign against the Huks. The Huks, however, succeeded in electing Taruc and other members of the Democratic Alliance to Congress.[4]. After Taruc was unseated by the Liberal Party, the Huks retreated to the jungle and began their open rebellion. Between 1946 and 1949 the indiscriminate counterinsurgency measures by President Roxas (“mailed fist” policies) strengthened Huk appeal. The Philippine Army, Philippine Constabulary, and civilian guards attacked villages seeking out subversives.
In 1949, Hukbalahap members ambushed and murdered Aurora Quezon, Chairman of the Philippine Red Cross and widow of the Philippines’ second president, Manuel L. Quezon, as she was en route to her hometown for the dedication of the Quezon Memorial Hospital. Several others were also killed, including her eldest daughter and son-in-law. This attack brought worldwide condemnation of the Hukbalahaps, who claimed that the attack was done by “renegade” members. The continuing condemnation and new post-war causes of the movement prompted the Huk leaders to adopt a new name, the ‘Hukbong Mapagpalaya ng Bayan’ or the ‘People’s Liberation Army’ in 1950.

In the present day naman Nueva Ecija,North Aurora,North Zambales and Tarlac are majority Ilocano speaking areas and in Bataan,Bulacan,south Aurora and south Zambales are majority tagalog speaking areas but they all used to speak kapampangan.

Obama has admired the father’s realism and has criticized the idealistic neo-conservatism of the son. But is realism a better foreign policy for the United States?
The answer is a resounding “yes”! Obama has been reluctant to be goaded into meddling in the delicate situation in Iran by the likes of Republicans John McCain and Charles Grassley. They want him to harshly criticize the Iranian government, thus allowing it to portray the protesters as lackeys of an imperialist superpower.
In contrast, realist Republicans — such as Henry Kissinger, Richard Lugar, Pat Buchanan and George Will — have jumped to defend Obama’s cautious handling of the situation. George Will correctly pointed out that the Iranian protesters already know how the U.S. government feels about their government, even in the absence of inflammatory U.S. government pronouncements.
We will never know how many rallyist in Iran will die. With that brutal dictator he will always kill Iranians that will opposs him. How many more centuries before Iranians will live in peace. The people of Iran need our prayers.
