MILF – Abu Sayyaf alliance causes heavy casualty on government troops

Update from the Inquirer:Dead soldiers mutilated

This statement by Dolorfino raises the question on the government’s policy towards the MILF:

Philippine Star:

Dolorfino later told a briefing in Zamboanga City that the government suffered 23 killed and 22 others wounded.

He added the Abu Sayyaf were aided by gunmen belonging to the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

He said 10 of the rebels killed during the firefight have been identified as MILF guerrillas.

Dolorfino said the MILF guerrillas were helping the Abu Sayyaf by blocking government reinforcements to the area of operations.

“So the presence of the MILF in that area was even questionable, why they joined the Abu Sayyaf group that was the subject of the military in law enforcement in that area,” Dolorfino said.

Dolorfino said they already considered the 10 MILF guerrillas who were killed as “part-time” members of the Abu Sayyaf.

“We really don’t know if they were part-time Abu Sayyaf and part- time MILF, but their presence in the battle area presses a question to the impression that they may be part-time, considering there was an effort to inform all MILF members that there was an impending law enforcement operation in that area,” he said.

MILF spokesman Eid Kabalu confirmed the 10 were members of the front’s 114th base command in the area. He added another fighter has been reported missing.

Kabalu claimed their forces were caught in the crossfire during the encounter.

He said the MILF guerrillas were in the area to prevent the Abu Sayyaf from taking refuge in their area but they were attacked by government troops in Sitio Baba Maputi.

Kabalu said the MILF would file a formal complaint before the joint ceasefire committee to investigate the incident.

The MILF issued a statement in its website, saying the “misbehavior” of the military resulted in the deaths of 10 of its fighters.

The MILF accused the military of violating the suspension of offensive military operations (SOMO).

President Arroyo ordered the SOMO last month to allow the peace negotiations with the MILF to proceed.

Kawawang mga pobreng sundalo under the Arroyo regime. Dahil sa gustong gumanda lang ang image niya, the Evilbitch tries making a onerous peace with the rogue MILF disregarding the interest, security and welfare of the AFP.

  2. After GMA’s meeting with Obama, the RP military became very aggressive against the Abu Sayyaf. Iyan ba ang instruction ng US? So that the US interest in that region would be served?

  3. We are fighting the Abu Sayyaf criminals for no other reason than that they have been commiting criminal acts. The MILF who have been claiming to be fighting for the rights of Muslims in the area have made the situation more complex. We have to determine the basic cause of the problem.

It is the same as a medical doctor trying to treat a patient of cardiovascular disease when it might have been just a complication of diabetes. Diabetes is a problem in the utilization of materials used for energy or funds for the daily operation of the human body. Too much materials circulating but not utilized damages the channels delivering those funds to the heart. That is the cause of cardiovascular problems.

Or it is the same as a medical doctor trying to treat a patient of cancer when it might have been just a complication of HIV. HIV is the corruption of the defense system of the human body. If the defense system becomes dysfuntional, it loses its function of defending the body against abnormal growth and it’s invasion of parts of the body.

Unless we correctly determine the cause of the abnormal growth like that of the Abu Sayyaf in our national body and other complex growths, our national body which is us, the Filipino people as a whole will continue as it has been for decades, to bleed to death.

Just for a start, we can review even just our very recent history in http://jmgpatria.blogspot.com/2009/06/american-invasion-continues_7055.html

This is just an initial review. We can even look further in our history as a nation. From these, we can identify the genesis of the problem. Then we can extract a concrete and organic solution to check the basisc problem.

  4. If we really have very little time, let us just read the paragraph in the aforementioned blog report on the American Invasion Continues, with the subtitle, “Abu Sayyaf”. But reading the whole report and research further on the start of the invasion of the enemy forces will give us a wider perspective.

For us who have been assigned there in Mindanao, the battle lines have always been clearly drawn. It’s us against them. No matter how we carefully dissect the problem, it would still point to the deeply rooted biases between our two opposing cultures. The 2007 beheadings of the 10 marines and the latest ambush by MILF elements that killed 20 marines are no different to the massacre of 22 marines, also in Basilan, in 1992, when i was still a junior officer assigned there. One thing that was pounded into our brains then was, in that war-torn province, u don’t know who ur enemies are. This is the stark reality out there. I pity these marines for taking the word of the MILF. In the storied campaigns of the Marine Corps during the secessionist war in the 70’s, Basilan has never been kind to the Marines. The MNLF and later on the Abus and the MILF hated the Marines to the bones and vice versa. The recent incident was just a continuation of the perpetual enmity between them. Dolorfino should know that. May God grant eternal rest to the souls of our departed brothers. Semper Fi. . .

  6. Actually this fight about mindanao started because of the spanish invasion and had the spanish invasion delayed by a century or more it would be both Luzon and Mindanao raiding and warring the areas penetrated by christianity…

henry90, looks like you’ve been a former marine officer like me. are you still in active duty? nice to hear from people like you. remember, a marine is always a marine.

Ano ang pagkaka-iba ng MILF at AbuSayaf … wala!!! Parehong rebelde. MILF man o AbuSayaf ubusin.

May they rest in peace…..!

Masakit ano? Blame it on the Generals who made money out of this crisis in Mindanao.

  17. Update from Inquirer:

    Dead soldiers mutilated

‘We have beheaded your loved one’
    By Inquirer Mindanao, Julie Alipala
    Philippine Daily Inquirer

ZAMBOANGA CITY—Most of them bore hack wounds. One had his head nearly severed.

And as they lay dying or dead, one of the Abu Sayyaf bandits sent a text message to the wife of one of the fallen Marines: “Pinugutan na namin ang mahal mo (We have beheaded your loved one).”

Rosalyn Toroy, 26, broke into tears when she showed the Philippine Daily Inquirer the message. It was sent from her husband’s own cellphone, which the Abu Sayyaf bandit had apparently taken from his body…

    Inquirer:http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/inquirerheadlines/nation/view/20090815-220330/Dead-soldiers-mutilated

  18. This is a challenge to the AFP and this Arroyo government. How many more soldiers need to die?

  19. mbw mbw

Hate is an all-pervading attitude of War. I grew up in Fort Bonifacio during the marcos regime and we would have daily scheduled brown-outs everyday for the trucks filled with caskets of slain soldiers from Mindanao to enter the camp. All around us live colonels/generals with spoils of war from blue and white jars, artifacts etc either sold by unscrupulous businesspeople or confiscated or something. Soldiers of both camps hate the enemy for killing their comrades brutally. Once got to know of a story of a naive (yet kind) young officer who took care of a wounded enemy. When the guy (enemy) got better, he killed the young officer. War is war…

  20. What I exactly meant at response#3 is not fighting the Abu Sayyaf but cutting them and their mind set for our objective. This is supposed to be an advanced response to the question of one of the grieving women of the slain soldiers: “…How many more soldiers will sacrifice their lives for a war without end?”

Normal Filipinos among us naturally want this to end. Pablo, a brother of one of the slain soldiers said that before that could happen, the government should be serious in its campaign against the Abu Sayyaf.

What I also meant in that response#3 is that GMA has really a different objective. That is GMA objective is just in collaboration with that of the Americans: To create a situation which perpetuates our dependence on them and justifies their perpetual physical presence in our archipelago. This way, the Americans continue their control of our resources.

Doctors among us morally want to put an end at the shortest possible time, to the disease of our patients. Lawyers among us, morally want to put a favorable end at the shortest possible time the legal cases of our clients. In the same manner, soldiers among us want to put an end at the shortest possible time to the Abu Sayyaf and to all security threats to our Filipino people. Do we not?

Then surely we must be interested in the solution. Then we know that before the solution, the problem must first be identified. And we know that to eliminate the problems, the underlying cause of all these problems– the genesis must be identified. Then thru where else can we identify the genesis?

My salute to my former comrades-n-arms.

That tragedy was bound to happen because the enemy knew our soldiers were coming and this is according to Marine General Ben Dolorfino who was quoted to have said: “…considering there was an effort to inform all MILF members that there was an impending law enforcement operation in that area,”. No wonder Dolorfino was never acceptable to the Marines when he was designated by the evil bitch as their Commandant. He is now the Commanding General of Western Command which has jurisdiction over Basilan. Basing on newspaper accounts, most of the government casualties were from the reinforcing elements that literally walked into the waiting Muslim rebels. This is a well known and established pattern where after an enemy (NPA or MILF) initiated encounter, government reinforcement is ambushed. How come there were no armor and air support? Was it because Dolorfino did not want to make the operation too obvious and glaring that will attract media attention so as not to antagonize the evil bitch who ordered a ceasefire?

    henry90,

Don’t forget the incidents in Danag Market, Patikul, Sulu in October 1976 when BGen Teodulfo Bautista and a company minus composed of officers and men from Div Hqs and 18th Inf Bn were brutally massacred by Usman Sali and his men during a perceived negotiation for their (Usman Salis’ group) surrender and Pata Island in 1980 wherein the Bn Commander of the 31st Inf Bn, LtCol Jacinto Sardual and the whole Coy Hqs were cold bloodedly mowed down by the rebels in an also perceived peace talk. Only two draftees seriously wounded were able to survive.

Kindly read the history of the Mindanao conflict not only during your days but also those written when you were not yet born.

It is not only the marines who are fighting the rebels, it the whole armed forces.

  27. Bukang Liwayway Bukang Liwayway

All out offensive order. Ceasefire when in hot pursuit of the enemy who cannot position themselves in defense so as to regroup, recruit and replenish.

Only in Lola Dapangdede’s fake administration.

    ………”SIYA na lang mag-isa ang matira…”

  29. Bukang Liwayway Bukang Liwayway

    mbw,

What you were saying was in 1970’s. Tama ka. Truck loads of dead soldiers arrived during those days.

  30. Bukang Liwayway Bukang Liwayway

Bakit dapat pakinggan ang demands ng MILF or any rebel groups?

    Dawn:
I understand where u are coming from. But that is not my point. The point im driving is, Dolorfino apparently did not learn anything from the Marines’ previous debacles in Basilan. Ano yun suicide? You and I know, including those who were assigned there, na pag nagkaputukan na, lahat na moklo doon magiging kalaban mo na by reason of consaguinity or affinity. Tamang OPSEC ba yun? I hope u get my point. What i wrote above was a reaction to the recent debacle(again!) of the marines. It was not intended to diminish the glory and the rich history of the campaigns of the other armed services in Mindanao. Im aware of what happened in Patikul and Pata. Lahat nagkakamali. But i can only speak for the marines. Thanks.

Only in the Philippines.

  38. Bukang Liwayway Bukang Liwayway

    Henry90,

I understand and sorry kung medyo may bahid pait ‘yung comment ko.

“Never tell to your friend what you do not want your enemy to know.”

    Cheers!

    Totoo ‘yun!

Dating kasama nina Bgen LIM sa YOU. He’s a PMA Cl ’80 better known as Nognog sa kanyang mga ka-mistah at sa buong Marines.

  42. Balweg, ikaw ba ito? Huwag mong gawing sanctuary itong blog natin at baka mapahamak kaming lahat:

Balweg tagged as planner of Bersamin’s ambush
By Non Alquitran (The Philippine Star) Updated August 16, 2009 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines – A captured communist rebel leader was identified as the one who planned the assassination of Abra Rep. Luis “Chito” Bersamin in front of a church in Quezon City three years ago, police said Saturday.

Freddie Dupo, former vice mayor of La Paz town in Abra, told police that Jovencio Balweg, whom they addressed as “Uncle,” was allegedly present when Bersamin’s assassination was discussed during meetings in La Union and a safehouse in Marikina City.

I doubt.

I knew Nur Misuari when he was younger. Scholar siya noon sa Asian Center sa UP when I was a student assistant there. Mabait siya. Kaya nagtaka ako when I heard of what the system had done and made of him. Kundi baka nananahimik siya and being satisfied with being what he should have been—a law-abiding citizen and an academic!

Lalong frustrations, lalo na siguro ngayon with a criminal leading the country to perdition.

    Kawawang Pilipinas!

  45. Yes, it’s a family dispute for many years. Parang mga Crisologo at Singson noon. And look at them now…the criminal Singson and ex-convict Crisologo are friends today both close to Malacanang.

  46. enciong enciong

    Dawn,

Kamag-anak mo pala si Nognog?! haha! Kilala ko yan. Okay yan.

I hope ganun pa rin siya till now. And I hope he gets promoted. He deserves it. Kahit nognog yun!

MILF of course is more sympathetic to Abu as fellow Muslims. Tanga ang gobyerno!

  48. Bukang Liwayway Bukang Liwayway

    enciong,

Muli kaming nagkita noong December 1976, the night before he was admitted in the academy samantalang patulak din ako papuntang Jolo sa aking assignment.

  49. Bukang Liwayway Bukang Liwayway

Kabalu claimed their forces were caught in the crossfire during the encounter.

He said the MILF guerrillas were in the area to prevent the Abu Sayyaf from taking refuge in their area but they were attacked by government troops in Sitio Baba Maputi.”

Dapat ay hindi sa low ground ang dinaanan with an assumption of a would be ambush na siyang karaniwang isinasagawa ng kalaban kapag na-outnumbered and outfought nila ang tropa.

I don’t understand why Dolorfino is still there.

Do we really have golfish-short memories to forget that this moron, together with a presidential adviser and some soldiers, were captured by Ustadz Malik when he went to the MILF camp to negotiate the surrender of some 50 inmates that escaped the Kidapawan jail which includes suspected terrorists?

His excuse was that he was asked by Malik to spend the night there and come to agree on the schedule when the tripartite dialogue between MNLF, OIC and GRP would push through. As if we didn’t know that MILF was formed out of disgruntled MNLF commanders who didn’t agree with Misuari’s autonomy agreement with Imelda/Khaddafy and instead were pushing for secession.

Why would Malik pursue a tripartite meeting that would uphold mere autonomy, that is very un-MILF! Further, MI does not speak for MNLF. Oh again, he expected us to believe the contrary, and this bozo is a general and was even promoted to Westmincom commander after his stint from NCRCom.

Second, was it his busines to negotiate for the return of the jail escapees when it was the job of the police to enforce the law on common crimes?

Finally, his official excuse that they were asked to spend the night is totally unbecoming. He should have been sacked immediately after this fiasco.

He was literally and figuratively admitting they were sleeping with the enemy for crying out loud!

  52. What kind of commanders do we expect to lead us, when those (GMA and company) who assign them have a different vision for our nation.

Has it not been their vision to turn this nation into their personal milking cow? But then how can that be when there are the Americans and the Chinese who are really the ones who are controlling our country? Well GMA had always been facilitating for these people the legitimacy of the legislative, judicial and executive powers of the GMA government thru which they perpetually exploit our resources to attain their own economic and security vision? They are mutually covering each other’s flank. GMA providing the legitimacy cover. The Chinese and the Americans providing GMA a share of their control of our nation.

As for the Americans, the global terrorism issue in Mindanao has provided them legitimacy cover for their presence in this country which is a strategic location for their vision of their regional security. The objective for the Americans should then be to prolong as much as possible the global terrorism in Mindanao to legitimize their presence for as long as is necessary for them. To realize this objective, collaboration of an apparently legitimate Filipino government is valuable. GMA who happens to be around has made herself very conveniently available for providing those particular needs of the Americans.

So, what do we expect from GMA, assign commanders whose vision is to end the sufferings of us Filipinos by attaining lasting peace in Mindanao? What do we expect, that GMA assign commanders who have the desire and the capability to cut out the Abu Sayyaf and their culture?

  53. So, until now, do we not yet see our enemies? In combat, an enemy is somebody who forces his will against us. It does not matter whether we are submitting to his will or not. What matters is whether his will is our destruction or not. What is the effect of the American and Chinese invasion of our country since the 1900’s? From an independent and proud of our race people to a people dependent of these invaders and who despise our own. Let us look at the state of our defense, politics and economy.

Based on the aforementioned, the enemies are those foreigners who have been controlling our nation since the 1900’s until this very moment. GMA has been collaborating with the enemies. That is an act of treason. This warrants an arrest of the perpetrator of such an act. This warrants an arrest if we want to end to more deaths of our Filipinos– civilians as well as soldiers.

    Dawn,

Hayaan mo. Pag nagkrus muli ang landas namin ni Nognog, I’ll mention you to him.

Valiantly fighting to the death till they fell one by one… dahil lang sa stupidity ng mga nasa itaas!

  55. Bukang Liwayway Bukang Liwayway

    Kapatid na Enciong,

Thank you ng marami.

Hayaan mo, I’ll see to it na makarating kay Nognog ang pasabi mo. Sasabihan ko rin si Ronnie about you pag nagkita kami.

  58. Bukang Liwayway Bukang Liwayway

    He he he heeh!

‘Kaw talaga, Tongue.

  59. enciong enciong

    Dawn,

Hehe! Ako din. I’m also beginning to wonder why someone with such intellect, insights, and character like you, eh, sitaw lang kamo ang nalagay sa balikat.

Pero nice to know yang mga kwento mo on Ronnie. Lalo na yung harana. Alam kong mahilig kumanta yon kahit noong araw. No wonder, team leader. Hehe!

Ganyan din si Nognog. Yang pag-describe mo on how Ronnie handles his men, ganyan din si Nognog. Kaya mahal ng mga bata niya yan.

  60. Bukang Liwayway Bukang Liwayway

  61. enciong enciong

    Dawn,

    Pardon me for the misinterpret.

Yes, mahal sila ng mga tauhan nila. I’m proud of Nognog, too.

Maging tutoo ka lang sa kanila, you don’t cheat them and care for their welfare, they’ll take care of you with their lives.

Ganyan sina Nognog, Ronnie, and many, many other young PMAyers in the field. I am proud of them.

  62. Bukang Liwayway Bukang Liwayway

I could hardly remember the names of our other kamag-anak sa kanilang lugar.

Malaking accomplishment na yun for him. And I am happy for him. He deserves it.

  64. Bukang Liwayway Bukang Liwayway

Kung puwede rin, paki-publish kahit na isang dummy e-mail address mo where I can send mine.

Or, maybe you can ask Ms. Ellen about my e-mail address.

    Ms. Ellen, please?

  66. enciong enciong

    Hahaha!

    Dawn,

Mukhang may isang tililing na sumingit dito. hehe! Papansinin ba natin ito? Ni hindi niya alam ang sinasabi niya. Pati ikaw dinamay.

Anyway, I’ll see how i can get in contact with Nognog. I’ll try to inquire sa PMar. Then if I’d be successful at it, I’ll send it to you thru Ms Ellen.

  67. Bukang Liwayway Bukang Liwayway

Bata ‘yan nina Dolorfino at John Rat.

  68. susy susy

Here in Japan, walang mga pakawala. I remember during my father’s duty in the Philippines in WW2, many Filipinos turned Makapili.

  69. enciong enciong

    Hehe!

    Nice play of words, Susy!

    Dawn,

Si John Rat kilalang-kilala ko rin yan. Matino yan noong araw. Pero nasira din ng sistema.

  70. susy susy

Thanks enciong. My real name is actually Sushi in Japanese.

  71. enciong enciong

    Nice name, Sushi..!

Can’t blame you. Same sentiment here.

Diyan ba sa Japan, kung may sampung Pilipino sa isang Prefecture, aasahan kong may sampung Filipino communities din na led by each of the ten Filipinos?

    Nakakadismaya, eh.

That is true in the US and Canada. Saw that myself, first-hand. Di ako gulat kung ganyan din diyan.
