Arroyo’s latest gimmick: packs her bags, turns Malacañang into refugee and relief center

Gloria Arroyo’s statement:

Arroyo
Arroyo
The recent calamity brought about by typhoon Ondoy was an extreme event not likely to happen again in our lifetimes. This of course is of little comfort to our countrymen who were ravaged by the storm, and who now need more than ever our time, our compassion, and our time, our compassion, and our material support as they try to rebuild their lives.

As my own small contribution to the common effort, I have ordered Malacanang Palace to be opened to the general public, effective immediately, as a center for relief and rescue operations, the receipt and distribution of charitable donations and the temporary relocation of families who were displaced or made homeless by the storm.

Relocated families will be sheltered in all available premises within the Palace grounds. Government employees will be asked to make room for our guests, and I myself will move across the river to temporary quarters at bahay pangarap in the PSG compound.

Malacanang has always been the People’s Palace and so it should be especially at this time of crisis when our people should be pulling together and helping each other…

compound. Malacanan has always been the People’s Palace and so it should be especially at this time of crisis when our people should be pulling together and helping each other.

I am confident that the right example will be set by all our government leaders, whatever their party preference or political coloring, as we are challenged once again to show the world that the Filipino nation does not lack in the qualities that can make heroes out of us all.

    Lift the curse

Gloria Arroyo and her image polishers should stop the feeding us bulls..t.

Her administration set a new record of incompetence in saving people and housing and feeding
calamity victims at the height of the floods brought about by typhoon “Ondoy” last weekend.

As of yesterday, rescue efforts remained patchy in Cainta and most evacuation centers were still short of clothing, food and medicines.

Instead of dealing squarely with the problem, the administration chose to hide its criminal
negligence by mounting a PR show by converting the Heroes Hall of Malacañang Palace into an emergency center kuno, with free telephone patches for those seeking to get in touch with relatives who are working overseas.

To dramatize the PR gesture, Gloria moved out of the Palace to the park across the Pasig river which serves as the headquarters of the Presidential Security Group. In so doing, her spin masters obviously failed to see the symbolism that many would draw from her action.

That during the most destructive natural calamity during her watch, she chose to ensconce herself in the bosom of her praetorian guards.

The National Disaster Coordinating Council (by the way, how does one coordinate a disaster?) is headquartered at Camp Aguinaldo. The camp is the most accessible place for people in need of help via EDSA, a vital artery which was free from floods and traffic gridlocks during typhoons before this truly inept administration came to power.

In contrast, the approaches to Malacañang – Sampaloc, Quiapo, San Miguel, Sta. Mesa,Pandacan and Paco – are all flood-prone. How do the people who need help get to the Palace if, heaven forbid, the weather again takes a turn for the worse? Swim? Or be ferried by rubber boats which were nowhere to be seen last weekend?

For a truly grand and heroic gesture, here’s an unsolicited proposal for Gloria.

Take Nagtahan bridge, proceed to the South Luzon expressway all the way to Villamor Air Base. Sequester a Philippine Airlines plane, preferable a long-range one, and hie off to another foreign destination (you know the drill; you have had much practice at it).

    And stay there for keeps.

“Malacanang has always been the People’s Palace..” -Gloria

    Gloria speaking through her heart?
As if she has a conscience!

  8. Ondoy underscored, emphasized, and stressed in graven words the inutility of this administration, primarily due to a self-centered gnome whose main purpose in life is to rule in perpetuity, the population be damned. Its flood waters exposed the blame game in all its fury.
Weather experts blamed the unusually heavy rainfall on climate change (conveniently forgetting that a similar deluge occurred 40 years ago). Several quarters wondered what had happened to the Doppler radar that was supposed to improve prediction of the amount of rainfall, which could give residents of flood-prone areas a chance to evacuate (despite reluctance of residents to leave their belongings to ransacking thieves). Relief officials, for their part, blamed the massive flooding on drainage systems clogged by garbage and silted waterways strewn by irresponsible residents..

  9. Overwhelmed by the devastation caused by Tropical Storm “Ondoy” (international name: Ketsana), the Philippine government on Monday sought aid from the world community, RP pleads for int’l help. Holy Moses! How will this be received by rich donors who recently got word of the profligate spending of Ate Glue in her globe trotting peregrinations.
In the wake of the devastation caused in the Philippines by Tropical Storm Ondoy (international name: Ketsana), US Ambassador Kristie Kenney authorized on Monday an additional $50,000 in immediate disaster relief assistance through the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) of the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
This brings the total in immediate relief donation assistance to $100,000, said Rebecca Thompson of the public affairs office of the US embassy in Manila.
In response to the request from the Philippine government, Japan has decided to provide emergency relief goods equivalent to about 20 million yen (about $220,000 or P10 million) to flood victims of typhoon Ondoy.

  10. chi chi

Inutil na gobyerno, inutil na Gloria!

  11. The blame game did not spare media. One said, “We have the billions that should have gone to improving Metro Manila’s drainage system and shoring up its dams but which have gone instead to feeding insatiable appetites, which is not entirely figurative, to blame for that. We have the billions that should have gone to procuring rubber boats and other rescue vessels to save lives and give relief during dire times but which have gone instead to flying public officials to watch Manny Pacquiao fight in Las Vegas to blame for that.” Poor Manny with his riches becomes fair game, blamed for the lack of life-saving rubber boats.
I blame lack of competent news editors for the hyperbole distorting the media reporting. “The nine-hour deluge left some areas of Metro Manila, a sprawling city of 12 million people, under 20 feet of water, with poor drainage systems and other failed infrastructure exacerbating the problem.” The math of news writers converted the 34.1 centimeters of rain that fell on Metro Manila in just six hours as 20 feet of water.(I know, I know, 34 cm. is quadrupled in the street spaces, 4 feet tops.)

Even is such Calamities, GMA doesn’t fail to try to play for Points…and being a Mediocre Leader can only provide a mediocre leadership in times like this…luckily majority of Filipinos so resourceful, they will survive on their own despite their impotent Leaders…my own brother was stranded up in his upstairs with his wheelchair bound wife with nothing and we can not even communicate with Him and was left with his own devices…found out they have survived thru relatives from Davao, but lost all their stuff…they can be replaced, but the uncertainties and the insecurity and the lack of Protection from your own Government is not Acceptable at All from one who Brags all over how well Her Leadership is Accepted by Her people…it is a shame, shame…

    Please note Gloria’s last sentence:

“we are challenged once again to show the world that the Filipino nation does not lack in the qualities that can make heroes out of us all.”

Note the phrase: “to show the world”.

Show the world? Show the world? We are doing all these to show to the world?

For now I think it is better to stop pinting fingers to whose fault it is. First and foremost, we should try to help our kababayans at the moment.

What I notice in the those footages are those so called volunteers with the names of politicians in their shirts or vests.

These idiots want to show that they are helping, but why those big names in the shirts and vests of these volunteers?

  15. I’m beginning to believe that the flooding is deliberate, and is another “false flag” operation, in this case, the flag itself is Nature.

This event took place after the NDCC Chairman Gibo went to the US… and his subsequent endorsement as the standard bearer for Palaka.

The US has already perfected the Weather Manipulation Technology that could be use to create needs for AID (loan), monitoring devices like Doppler Radar, etc., and other economic manipulations.

Gibo’s strong connection with CFR being a Harvard graduate is undeniable. Even Danding Cojuangco could be a member of this Elite Group, and could explain why he didn’t attend Cory’s Funeral, reinforcing paroled Sgt. Martinez claim that it was him who masterminded the Ninoy Assasination. He could use this opportunity to further his exposure for 2010,… or does it backfiring on him?

Last Saturday’s release of tremendous amounts of water from hydro dams without prior warning is bereft of concern for human lives and properties.

Nevertheless, it is giving the Midget a good opportunity to show off her imeldific boots.

  16. He (Gibo) could use this opportunity to further his exposure for 2010,… or does it backfiring on him?

  17. Abdollah Mouawad Abdollah Mouawad

This is just a pure gimmickry!

Malakanyang Palace is where the highest official of the land holds office and residence and its only use other than that is receiving and holding banquets for visiting dignitaries aside from local official functions and using it as center for relief operation and housing the displaced victims of the recent man-made calamity is disrespect to the dignity of the palace itself although the occupant is the one who declares for its use most especially the NOT DULY elected acting permanent president.

Showing compassion to the victims in this time of disaster cannot erase gloria’s and her family members’ and allies’ unexplained involvement in controversies they all tried to evade.

    Kulang lang yan sa pansin!

She should now give away bags of money to the victims like what she did during her impeachment which she tries so hard to thwart then.

  23. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

Romyman, I think you hit the nail right on the head.

That will force her to squeeze every last peso out of her remaining Presidential budget and the budgets of the most wasteful and corrupt departments such as the DPWH and DOTC and all those other budgets just waiting to be used for her favored candidates this elections.

Incidentally, the House Appropriations Committee just approved the budget of the Office of the President for 2010 in less than 5 minutes!! A P4.3B request approved with no questions asked inspite of a track record of going over budget.

    Believe it or not.

  24. Allan Allan

Take note also of Gloria facial expression in the photo where she was wearing pink boots. Di ba the same rin?

Noli and Gibo had the same “tulala” look.

i also agree that they have blank expressions in their faces which meant that they did not know what to do and therefore they should not and ought not to be in charge. they knew better when distributing money to their cohorts.or they may be actors in front of the camera.

Pera namin ‘yan, huwag ninyong suwapangin.

  38. Supporting my false flag theory are two events occurred today just as our attention are on the flood victims:

    1. Ombudsman Guiterrez is acquitted of all impeachment charges, and;

    2. Lakas-Kampi Merger, being protested by De Venecia et al, is approved by the Comelec.

no.1 above, of course, is our main concern.

With tens of thousands displaced from their homes after Tropical Storm Ketsana ripped through the northern Philippines, Liberal MP Jim Karygiannis (Scarborough-Agincourt) is calling on the Harper government to commit $5 million in aid.

Karygiannis, who has about 1,500 families in his riding with relatives in the affected area, also wants the government to match dollar for dollar what the community raises for disaster relief. He is also urging Ottawa to expedite family class sponsorship applications from the disaster zone and to issue visitor visas to people in the affected area who have family in Canada.

Note: MP Jim K is an opposition MP and here is an example of how the people’s representative works for his constituents…and also wondering why this Government who was very quick in the past to send in its Military Rapid Response Team (with expertise in water purifying and rescue operation) is dragging its butts…my guess is the same as most)

  45. vic vic

GMA “bonehead” excuse for her government snail pace rescue efforts that Ondoy is worse than Katrina is not acceptable and so patently “stupid”…Katrina was a Good Lesson for everyone to be prepared, yet instead, she spent all the money intended for preparedness for Gluttonous diners and mis-governance and unnecessary trips with “opportunist junketeers tagging along”.

  46. chi chi

    Ellen,

  47. chi chi

    “Gloria speaking through her heart.”

The fact that EK press released this for the “world” to read meant the opposite.

Kailan pa nagkaroon ng puso si Gloria? Ang mga puso-pusoan sa kanyang plastic na boots ay for the sake of kodakan din.

Gloriamus making apology of their late rescue operations because they were “overwhelmed” (may dahilan pa e) by Ondoy was just to prevent a political fallout, nothing more.

Apparently, it is backfiring on them so her spinmasters have to sell another gimmick…pack her bags and let the people in on the grounds of the “people’s palace” daw.

    Heartless bitch!

NO!

Kagalanggalang at pinagpipitagan (nakupu!!!) naming panggulo,

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and her Cabinet agreed Tuesday to donate their salaries for two months to victims of storm “Ondoy.” Inquirer

Kuripot. Keep your salary, at ibigay mo yung tongpats mo, para lalong makatulong.

My question: Why is the Catholic Church so silent?

It is about time ( which is long overdue) to rethink population management in the Philippines. Manila’s population is so dense, which is beyond its absorptive capacity.

turns Malacañang into refugee and relief center

Why not send them all to ABS-CBN and GMA networks to help pack relief goods?

I’ve just heard from one of the radoi thru internet that people seeking or been on the long line to recieve any relief goods from the ground of palace, they just been handed out a 12 Oz bottle of water and a package of biscuit/cracker, and answer a lot of question concerning the damages been done of the recent calamities.just imagine you have to walk/commute to the place where hand out been going,is it worthed to waste time for goods not even to quench your hunger or thirst.

Take note that I edited your comments and changed sentences all capitalized to small letters.

This is an advice from one who has been in the communication business since time immemorial. Contrary to what you think, sentences that are all in capital letters do not attract readers. It does not make readers read what you have written.

In fact, it turns off readers because it is screaming especially if you put several exclamation marks.

If you want to emphasize, you may make it bold. If you have to capitalize it, talagang bihira, bihira lang.

As I have said time and again, bloggers are intelligent. They will understand your message even if it is in small letters.

For a pleasant blogging. Thank you.
