A conspiracy to continue illegitimate governance

Gloria Arroyo must be the happiest person today.

While the people are pre-occupied watching the Senate circus and other political entertainment, she is laying down the infrastructure for what looks like her last try to stay in power beyond 2010.

The group that calls themselves Former Senior Government Officials (FSGO) has information of a sinister plot by Arroyo and her allies that will spell the death of democracy in this country.

The FSGO issued a statement that warns of “A Conspiracy to Continue Illegitimate Governance.” Let it not be said that we were not warned:

“We, Former Senior Government Officials, warn our fellow citizens that the evil of illegitimacy that has stained our nation’s political life in the past 9 years is threatening to seep like sewage into our government even after June 30, 2010. The illegitimate GMA administration that has been marked by lying as in her Rizal Day declaration she will not run, by cheating as in Hello Garci, by stealing as in the NBN-ZTE deal and by tolerating abuse of power as in the Ampatuan massacre, is seeking to perpetuate itself beyond even its Constitutionally mandated expiration date. We warn of an emerging conspiracy to continue illegitimate governance.

“Our countrymen look forward to the May 2010 elections as a chance for an orderly, peaceful and democratic change to elect a new legitimate administration that can lead our people to move beyond this unsatisfactory, distrusted and detested regime. Aspiring leaders have filed their candidacies. Political campaigns have been organized. Issues and platforms are being debated. We see in the coming elections our chance to re-establish the democratic principle that only an authentic and unquestioned electoral mandate defines the will of the people for the kind of leadership and governance they wish to prevail over the public affairs of the nation. This is the principle that is under grave threat today.

“First, the risks of failures in the 2010 elections are increasing every day. All preparations for the coming elections occurred under the GMA administration and the Melo Comelec, as the Abalos Comelec, are mostly or totally composed of GMA appointees. Quoting from a PDI editorial, “Unfortunately, the trend of its recent decisions is rapidly dissipating the perception that the Melo Comelec is different from the unlamented Abalos Comelec that it replaced.” Deliveries, testing, calibration, validation and training for automated elections are delayed. Ballot printing is also delayed. Fears of logistical failures in providing the right set of customized ballots for each of the 1,630 towns of the country remain unresolved. Calls to prepare for a back-up manual elections are not being taken seriously. Whatever the reasons might be, however the situation might actually unfold, one thing must be made clear: failure in the 2010 elections can only be a deliberate one engineered by the GMA administration that has benefited so much from such events.

“Second, the GMA administration is taking many alarming steps to try to retain undue influence beyond its tenure. It has launched a government-funded public relations effort touting its achievements as if it were itself a contending presidential candidate. It has
appointed many officials in positions with tenures well beyond June 30, 2010. It is attempting to justify its intention to make what would be a patently “midnight appointment” of a successor Chief Justice of the Supreme Court within the period prohibited by the Constitution. And, lest our people forget, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is running for Congress in the coming elections. We cannot underestimate the scale and scope of this administration’s use of government resources for the election of its favored candidates.

“Ring the church bells! Sound the alarms! Shout out warnings! The orderly, peaceful and democratic transition to a new legitimate administration is in grave danger. There is only one source capable of posing this danger and that is the evil power of an illegitimate president seeking protection from accountability for her crimes. There is only one power that can face and surmount this danger and that is the power of an aware, vigilant, organized and outraged people.”

  1. It has launched a government-funded public relations effort touting its achievements as if it were itself a contending presidential candidate.

Doesn’t the advertising industry in Pinas have an Ombudsman or watchdog to pull out false and misleading advertisings from media adverts?

  2. Media is complicit in the act of patently subverting the truth and poisoning the minds of the young by allowing milseading adverts to grace their pages and their air space.

What a country! Morally reprehensible for media to do this — and they have the gall to say that they stand for truth. What a load of bull!

  3. Anna, I’m not at all worried about the Gloria propaganda machinery. No amount of ads bombarding the airwaves, as long as it is identified to be coming from the same gov’t sources, will still be doubted, distrusted and dismissed as pure, unadulterated manure. No one watches government stations anyway. Counter-propaganda has been working harder and is more effective that her bailiwicks in Visayas and Mindanao are fast joining the anti-Gloria forces all surveys report large increments of dissatisfaction there whereas Luzon figures remain stable.

From morning talk to noontime shit to afternoon soap all the way to evening dramas capturing most if not all of the viewership, I doubt if the unpalatable lies and massaged economic scores complete with all the garnish and side servings will even reach its target audience.

  4. Funny but the elite crowd that now trumpets the scenarios of doom are very much the same faces whom the masa in general lump together as complicit with the cabals of Gloria and are treated with the same distrust and caution.

I guess its because their standard bearer’s numbers are slipping after the premature shock and awe have weaned.

My goodness, it’s civil society’s matrons and patrons – all of them guilty in installing this evil bitch – that are now, again, making decisions for us in all things related to this automation. They have even centralized the citizen-watchdogging, if you will, to previously separate church-backed PPCRV and Makati Biz-funded Namfrel on the lone shoulders of Tita De Villa, now also acting president of the Comelec Fan Club, and has conspicuously allowed all the present shenanigans in that agency to happen.

    Absolutely great news, Tongue.

Okay, FGO. simulan nyo na at mag-organize na kayo.

Senate Circus on C5-Extension project is also a Counter-Propaganda.

  11. Tongue, re # 4. Sinabi mo pa.

This Tita de Villa is suspect. She has always been responsible for tempering outrage against Gloria Arroyo.

It’s good that Namfrel is complaining.

    Good luck on this.

  13. Isn’t there a single Villar supporter in the house, or even just lurking in the Ellenville crowd? Or are they, like their slimy leader, as spineless as JPE bruits, (a slimy slug supported only by a C-5 shell). I would have delighted in reading their defense of tumbling political icons like Pia Cayetano, Adel Tamano and Gilbert Remulla — smeared with the Villar curse.

  14. Di na namin kailangan ang lip service.

“In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet THE PEOPLE ACCEPTED IT that way.”

  20. THE people accepted it that way because they are well-informed and watch TV religiously.

There are two kinds of citicens around us. Those who love those in power and those who hate but afraid of them. There is no one in between.

PCOS field test in Taguig fails

The report said the PCOS machine, using SIM cards of the 3 mobile network providers, also failed to transmit counted votes to the central server at the Comelec office in Intramuros, Manila.

    Tsk. tsk. tsk. tsk.

  26. MPRivera MPRivera

    SumpPit,

To think this is the second time they insisted on poll automation. Palpak pa rin and clearly aside from the fat commission received, the purpose of this anomalous project by gloria’s dogs is to again launch massive cheating during the election. Pero ngayon pa lang, buko na sila.
