Central Mindanao bets sign poll peace pact

By Danny Sabino

GENERAL SANTOS CITY—At least three areas in Central Mindanao will be free from guns, goons and gold this May elections, as long as candidates who pledged to do so honor their promise.

About a hundred officials vying for elective positions in South Cotabato, Sarangani and General Sanots City signed a peace covenant with the Commission on Elections, Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police on Wednesday. The signing was held at the Lagao Gym here during the Region 12 command conference for the 2010 elections.

The candidates committed to refrain from the use of violent and fraudulent means to win the election. The officials who pledged belong to various political parties and affiliations.

“We shall uphold the Constitution, faithfully comply with the election laws and regulations, conduct ourselves honorably at all times, campaign on issues proper and relative only to election matters and to refrain from attacking our opponents on matters not related to political advocacy,” the covenant read.

Can we also have this in ARMM? Specifically with the Ampatuans?

The Philippines needs James Layug in congress and needs more of his kind..the right kind of a leader…To the Taguig voters you should send him to Congress…

Excellent initiative, Ellen, but you gotta worry about the scalawags (leaders) in the Afp and the Pnp. They are held by the balls by frigging dwendede. So anything can happen.

A covenant is good only when it’s honoured, executed to the letter.

You all heard and read about MILF’s declaring war on Erap. Kilala kasi nila si Erap at takot na makabalik sa Malacanang. Uubusin sila ni Erap. Whoever and whatever group supports a candidate supported by MILF is dangerous. If we want to keep the Philippines intact, we need to support Erap even if we don’t like him. From all indications, siya lang yata ang kayang labanin ang mga rebelde sa Mindanao.
