Testing the waters.

Ito ang sinabi ni Planas: “It is possible that the military might take over. That is possible … Military juntas have taken over in several countries, especially in Southeast Asia.”

Nang tanungin kung ang failure of elections sa Mayo ang sitwasyon na maaring magbigay ng rason na magkakaroon ng military takeover, sabi ni Planas,: “It could be. Even Senator Enrile mentioned that. It could be.”

: “We will look at the Constitution … It is not the President who will say, ‘I want to stay in power.’ It is not she. The situation and the Constitution will dictate.”

Tuso talaga.

“We will look at the Constitution … It is not the President who will say, ‘I want to stay in power.’ It is not she. The situation and the Constitution will dictate.”

And no Wonder the little Lady is head over heel in her attempt to violate (and she did with the conspiring Justices) the Constitution and now we know what was in the Plan..Sneaky, sneaky, but General Versoza might not jump along and so are other principled and honourable few of the men in Uniform…better be very careful GMA, playing your last card maybe your Waterloo…

  2. You’re probably right, vic. Versoza had a one-on-one meeting with Bangit yesterday(?) and people said the two weren’t smiling when they left the meeting. Hopefully Versoza will take the side of the people on this.

Re: “we will look at the constitution”, of course, if no national candidate is proclaimed only the lower house will function. Speaker Gloria takes over. Will anybody question that? Where, in the Supreme Court?

  4. Nakikibalita pa. But definitely, Verzosa does not feel good about Rosales acting as if he is the PNP chief.

Vic mag dilang angel ka sana..”this last card maybe her Waterloo”…ano ang laro nila takutan? bakit natatakot ba ang mga militar? bakit natatakot ba ang mga tao? subukan nila and that will be the end of her. ilang tulog na lang..tagay ba putot para hindi ka na gumising…it is time to look at the constitution! it is time to follow the constitution..game ka na ba?

  7. Ferrer, the Maguindanao martial law administrator, was bypassed by Lt. Gen. Mapagu as army chief.

  8. Ellen,

After readin this article, it occurred to me that when I was a lil girl, my parents had a friend who was called Planas with that kind of first name (Charito or similar sound) and who was, I think a council man/woman from Quezon City. The Planas I have in mind was a bit mannish. Said Planas used to visit the house and even then I remember not liking her.

Could Gloria’s spokesperson that same local Quezon City individual/politician?

(If so, I’m surprised that the person is still alive — one I knew as a child should be nearing 80?)

They do have feet of clay! Tsk, tsk, tsk.

I’m not only calling the bluff, I raise. I’m all in.

  11. Ito ang sinabi ni Planas: “It is possible that the military might take over. That is possible … Military juntas have taken over in several countries, especially in Southeast Asia.”

There is no way that Gloria’s close-in mouth piece such as this bitch of a spokesperson could make such politically loaded pronouncement without a go signal from Gloria.

    NO WAY!

Where in the world of civilised nations have you ever heard a pronouncement from the heart or the seat of power that as distabilising as that bitch’s pronouncement?

In troubled times and in times of undertainties, the role of an honest government is to reassure, to construct, even to pacify but certainly not to inflame, let alone destabilise…And to think that people around her don’t even have the guts to suggest, “Madam, I believe we are going a bit too far.”

A government spokesperson voices the desiderata of the big boss (well, in this case, it’s actually the dwarfish boss) and so I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that the idiotic, ass-licking Planas, had received the OK to make that threat.

In other words, Gloria is setting the stage for a disaster scenario that she in fact has planned and is hell bent on executing.

This is time to teach her a lesson. People must unite and get rid of her and people around her with finality.

  12. In the West, such a pronouncement from a presidential spokesman would have sent their stock markets crashing. Banks would be seeking extra currency supply in order to avoid any bank run arising from such statements of doom.

Onli in da Pilipins, can you find a president’s mouthpiece dishing stupid horror scenarios and the stock market even manages to make gains on closing.

Kasi nga, Malacañang’s credibility is zilch, businessmen are no longer affected by such pronouncements.

  13. Tongue, precisely what I was thinking; was gonna ask how stock market over there is doing.

  14. A government spokesperson voices the desiderata of the big boss (well, in this case, it’s actually the dwarfish boss) and so I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that the idiotic, ass-licking Planas, had received the OK to make that threat.

Anna, The junta threat is just that, a threat. A hollow one. Like offering a draw when the opponent is in a position of power that his pawns and knights are about to screw your queen.

Don’t worry, the threat wasn’t even taken seriously. Stocks ended flat while the week’s gains were maintained.

  15. Gloria’s end-game plan is to put in place people who are loyal to her and maintain their stronghold in those critical positions in order that she has a strong bargaining position with whoever sits in the Palace after her.

Like ordinary criminals, they threaten the judge, the prosecutor, the investigator, and the victims in order to go scot-free.

Ruffy Biazon said that if Noynoy wins, he might just end up being politically hostaged by a Gloria-led house that may have the required numbers to blackmail him with impeachment.

Assuming further that Villarroyo’s senate bets make it in May, the losing president becomes Senate President and after Noynoy is removed, only Mar Roxas stands in his way to becoming acting president.

As far as maintaining influence over institutions, I can give it to her. She has done it already. But a military junta? Nah.

  16. Tongue,

It’s a threat alright. But I reckon a threat that is loaded.

Are we sure that the stockes ended flat while weeks gains were maintained not because the traders weren’t worried by the pronouncement but because Planas said it on a Friday when market had closed for the weekend?

Either that or, my cynical theory is that the stock market didn’t crash (where it would in other countries) because the companies trading were in on it from the start. After all, Gloria has had so much time to plan for such an eventuality — conspiring with big business has been her trademark (pre-Erap downfall.)? They might even be toying with the idea that a junta could bring needed stability for their business, after all, in Gloria’s “economic growth” ek ek, the rich became richer.

    What do you think?

  17. Gloria’s end-game plan is to put in place people who are loyal to her and maintain their stronghold in those critical positions in order that she has a strong bargaining position with whoever sits in the Palace after her.

Oh, for sure — that has been and still remains Gloria’s OPTION A.

But I’m pretty sure she has an Option B and even an Option C.

What we want to have a good glimpse of is Option B. And could this military junta thinggy her Option B? (I’m pretty sure if ever she’s toying with it, it won’t be a full military junta. It would be a civil-military junta. It will be a bit more palatable to the people. We must presume that she has a huge war chest too to spend for any of the options.

  18. Oblak Oblak

Thanks Ms. Ellen for the info about Ferrer. Na by pass din pala sya.

Sasakay ako kay Tounge na target ang mga businessmen sa pagpapalutang ng military take over. Kahit sinasabing maraming pera si Villar, he is doing the rounds pa rin sa mga known businessmen. I know for a fact that he visited the son of a Pinoy Taipan last March 10.

  19. conspiring with big business has been her trademark (pre-Erap downfall.)? They might even be toying with the idea that a junta could bring needed stability for their business, after all, in Gloria’s “economic growth” ek ek, the rich became richer.

You have a point there. But knowing how greedy these businessmen are, many have already felt a prolonged Gloria regime might be their businesses’ death wish. The recent SC decision was initiated by three lawyers, including Estelito Mendoza whose clients are the biggest in big biz. Lucio Tan and Danding Cojuangco’s chief counsel has done Gloria a big favor (aided by the stupid candidate in Erap’s senate lineup – Maambong) – not good for the others businessmen who are already complaining from the persistent solicitations from the candidates despite the big sums already donated.

They have been suffering from exclusion from major deals cornered by the crony-golf buddies for too long and reminders of the brutal retaliation against the Lopez empire are still fresh. The only antidote, for their own survival is to ignore, ignore, ignore.

    Or go to war.

As for the junta earlier hinted by Enrile, he said the junta is one that will fill the void in leadership in order to maintain stability and order. A junta by Class ’78 will invite chaos and at the worst end, civil strife which is the opposite.

Bangit’s role is actually just PSG in a bigger scale. Gloria may continue to screw us all with her machinations and manipulations of laws but we are fighting a losing cause since the end arbiter – the SC – is breathing air from under her skirt. When the legal battles spillover to the streets, that’s where Bangit’s services will be needed.

These cowards cannot openly declare a junta because they will only invite attention from the global community.

  20. The worst case scenario? With Versoza taking the peoples side (hope and pray), Class 78’s ambitious power grab wouldn’t be a walk in the park. At least, without a ruling junta that follows no constitution, we may be assured the next president’s ascension may only be delayed, whoever he may be. The Gloria forever scenario will be thwarted.

A failure in Elections and an acting president Gloria has little time to pull a ChaCha as long as a Versoza-led PNP and an opposition-ruled Senate remains.

As we all know, what the spokesperson says, that’s what GMA says. Most of the current Service Commanders are from PMA Class 78 and the new AFP Chief Bangit is from the same class. When Bangit went to see PNP Chief Versoza, it was not a courtesy call but a confrontation. Hindi nasindak sa sermon si Versoza. If only Ibrado and Versoza stay, the AFP and PNP would be neutral. Versoza and Ibrado both belong to Freemasonry. So are Querubin and Gen. Danny Lim. Takot ang Malacanang sa Fraternity Brotherhood nila.

i’m not being discriminative here but this planass is way pass the age of alertness and to speak coherently. I did argue about the senior’s right on equal employment here at Ellen’s blog long time ago. But this time, Arroyo’s decision making in terms of appointing the right kind of people in office, medyo mababaho na.. ngek.

    palitan niyo na.

  28. Robbal Robbal

Charito Planas is a respected councilwoman in QC way back at ambisyosa din siya pero may talino at aktibista ang dating niya before.

How time flies at ngayon naman nguso siya ni GMA para magbigay ng mga press releases. During her interviewed by the press, galit ang mararamdaman mo dahil sa mga sinasabi niya about military junta kung sakaling magkarun ng failure of elections. Baluktot na rason coming from a supposed to be reasonable woman.

Count me in to fervently support a new wave of street democracy once na ganito ang mangyari sa atin.

This is not the first time that this thing called military junta was floated. It’s a Gonzales original idea and the purpose is to let Gloria remain in power. Gloria seemed to like the idea that she never censured Gonzales for proposing it. But after receiving so much flak they let it sleep for a while.

Now that Gonzales as DND chief and her favorite Bangit as COS the idea is back on the agenda and Planas was used as the mouthpiece. The target audience is the military and police to get a feel of how it would be received. Forget the people; they can’t do anything against a united military and police especially if the one behind is as evil as Gloria. The problem is, Bangit maybe the COS, but he is never 100% sure if everybody will follow the chain of command especially the junior officers and all those officers that do not belong to the class78 who were by-passed. He knows that he can’t afford to venture into an unknown world of uncertainty and move to plunge this country into a bloody encounter between Filipinos. He may possess the kind of loyalty of a dog to his master, but ultimately, his inner conscience (if ever he has one) will prevail upon him to do the right thing; that is to serve and protect the constitution and the people beyond anything else.

  30. Anna, re#8

The Planas you are describing in your girlhood days is the same Planas who is now the mouthpiece of Gloria Arroyo.

Yes,she is a New Manila resident. She is the sister of the late beauty queen lawyer, Carmen Planas.

She used to administer the Quezon City memorial Circle. Then Arroyo appointed her head of Nayong Pilipino. When Remonde died, she was given the job of deputy presidential spokesperson.

Charito is an out and out fan of Gloria Arroyo.

  31. Isagani Isagani

Gloria must be really scared with all the crap she is doing to stay in power. She must be peeing in her panties thinking what will happen to her when she steps down.

  32. From Mike Moreno:

I believe deputy presidential spokesperson Charito Planas told the truth that a military junta will take place if failure of elections happen. Atty. Planas, if she is still the Charito I knew though I am much younger than she is,is not a born liar like her boss woman is “nadulas and dila niya at nagsabi ng tutuo” A primary duty of a spokesperson is to tell what her president thoughts are and inform the public about it through press briefings. As everybody knows, PGMA will do everything she can to stay in power way beyond June 30, 2010 just like what F.G. Mike T. Arroyo said years back thus: People are stupid to believe that his wife PGMA will quit when her term in office end in June 30,2010. He was quoted by several journalist covering Malacanang and printed in many Philippine broadsheets at that time.

Day after day talks here in the western front in parties, coffee shops, malls food court and even in bus stops where Filipinos meet are one in saying “hindi papayag na mawala yang si Gloria sa pwesto (Filipinos here only calls her Gloria) dahil takot na makulong sa dami ng kasalanan niya sa taong bayan such as massive corruption, flagrant violation of the Philippine Constitution, violations of human rights. killings of inocent civilians opposed to her abusive governance and many more. GMA’s prison cell mates will to my mind, enjoy skinning her alive and for sure she wouldn’t want that to happer to her.

PGMA is so hated by most Filipinos everywhere and since they do not want her to stay in office a minute longer I think a massive bloody uprising will actualize to stop her (PGMA) in throwing our nation towards the road of total perdition.

I think patriotic men and women in uniform today are ready to lend their arms and firepower to protect citizens empowerment to change the present corrupt and immoral government of PGMA.

    Let us go for it!!!!

Sorry Tita Ellen pero you may just delete that one.

anyway… we only need to read the headlines and it truly seems that something’s in the air, from rolling brownouts, to ballot boxes na pinaayos nang late, to ballots itself na kulang daw, then you have this parang test run. makes me feel na gloria is truly afraid once nasa labas na sya nang malacanang?

If Planas perceived scenario might or will bear fruition, the Military may Take Over, not because it the Wish of GMA for sticking to power, but because just Like the Populace, the Men in Uniform has come to the end of their Patience. Just Like the Frenchmen, their Patience eventually reached its Limits and Mary A. get her Just Desert. Of course being a little more civilized nowadays we don’t want to go that far, but who can tell what an Angry Man in Uniform might do and the People behind him?

Just Like the Planas’ scenario this too is possible.

When you have the top, but lose the middle, the top will be toppled. Remember Macoy? He had Fabian Ver, Prospero Olivas, and other top brass. They were toppled by puny colonels (Gringo, still respected then, Red Kapunan, et al). Si Tabako, naki-ride on na lang yan. Snivelling opportunist.

Now Goyang has the top. But does she have the middle? Will the army obey Mappagu or Ferrer? Are the marines loyal to her, or does the middle still look up to General Miranda? The Scout Rangers, hers or Danny Lim’s? In the end, what unit may be loyal to her? Only the PSG. (You sure?)

You can only survive if the top commands as much, or more respect than the middle – Gringo vs. Biazon.

If she insists on this scenario, it will spell her death; and I mean physical, not political death. Remember how murderous the rage was, when people stormed Malacanang in 86? Go back to the coffee table books on People Power, and look at the picture of one maralita Coryista embracing a bloodied Marcos loyalist, waving away his Coryite mates (read his lips), tama na, tama na.

You think the maralita will be that magnanimous now? After what was done to Erap?

Remember the scorn towards Ronnie Nathanielz? He, it was, who fawningly interviewed Macoy. They will reap the same whirlwind – Planas, the Joke, including the Goyangista bishops.

Now go back to your Bibles, you sanctimonious so and sos.

To everything there is a season,

Nag-chime in na si Edong. “To save the republic” daw, a new senate president must be elected. The choice will come from the following:

Angara, Joker Arroyo, Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, Alan Peter Cayetano, Francis Escudero, Panfilo Lacson, Francis Pangilinan, Loren Legarda, Manuel Villar Jr., Juan Miguel Zubiri, Gregorio Honasan and Antonio Trillanes IV.

Lacson is globe-trotting and Trillanes is forcibly availing of the hospitality of the military. So they are out. Those who are running must also be excluded, because there is a conflict of interest. So out din si Money, Noynoy, and Loren. The choice is, therefore, limited to: Angara(pal), the Joke, the Noted One, Money’s voice (Cayetano), Chiz, El Bimbo (Gringo pala), and La Bamba (Zubiri).

Can Chiz rise to the occasion as caretaker? I believe he can. But will he get elected to the post? That is the mystery.
