Danny Lim and Ariel Querubin

ON Monday, when I go to the polls, top on my list for senators are Brig. Gen. Danny Lim (#28) and Col Ariel Querubin (#47).

The two have been in detention since February 2006 when they were charged with attempting to withdraw support from Gloria Arroyo after the “Hello Garci” tapes exposed the use of the military in the tampering of election results in her favor in the 2004 elections.

The two said whatever is the outcome of the mutiny case against them, they would like to pursue life outside of the military. For Querubin, the chance to serve the country by being a member of the Senate is part of his giving back after he was snatched from the jaws of death in 1989.

Together with Lim, Querubin was one of the founders of the Young Officers Union, who launched one of the bloodiest coups against the Aquino administration in 1989.

Querubin was hit badly and he was mistaken as dead. He was lumped with other fatalities. A military doctor, however, noticed his little finger twitch. He approached the unconscious officer, removed his Philippine Military Academy ring and brought him to the hospital where he was brought back to life.

From his detention cell at the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces in Camp Aguinaldo, Querubin wrote this letter to his “Mahal na kababayan.”

“May God Almighty be with you!

“I have no doubt in my mind that the Lord has all the while been preparing me for public service. I was left for dead in 1989, and He allowed me to spring back to life. I have been imprisoned as a soldier, but I fully regained the honor after having been awarded the Medal of Valor in 2001. As my military career was very much back on track, I was again challenged to choose between right and wrong, between honor and injustice, between good and evil.

“Even as we all work for a vibrant and prosperous Philippines, my dream is for every Filipino to enjoy the essence of freedom from poverty, fear, and injustice, to feel the tangible benefits of good governance, and to live comfortably in a society that fosters the unity of the family, protects human rights, and upholds the dignity of all.

“I have not had an easy life. My life story has been replete with vivid encounters with injustice, poverty, corruption, and war. These painful experiences have shaped this dream. I never succumbed to the lure of material wealth. The physical, mental, and emotional hardships have been painful, but I never sold my soul.

“As a young soldier, armed with idealism and the fire of youth, I have offered my life to defend this country from ALL its enemies. I have suffered long and hard for the principles that I hold dearly. Many of my loved ones have suffered with me – maybe not physically, but certainly have shared in the misery and hardships that I have endured. The fire of idealism still burns in me, but I have been wiser not to engage fire with fire.

“With a lot of circumspection and prayer, I have decided to run for the Senate in 2010. I have no political pedigree. I have no political machinery. I have no financial resources. But I do have honor. I do have principles. I do have courage. Tapang at prinsipyo lang po.

“I believe I am ready to take on this new role, with your prayers and support this dream is not too far- fetched. It takes the collective effort of every member of this society to make things improve for a country in disarray… a country whose hope is running dry…

“All I can do, on my end, is to make the best effort possible to make society better, stand by my principles, and fight for what is right. This I will do, if not for myself and our generation, then at least for our young children. There is still hope for this country and people, we just have to unite for change.

“Thank you and may the good Lord bless us all.

Elect into public office the person deserving our votes, not the partido.

My number ones as I drive to the polls: Gen. Danny Lim and Col. Ariel Querubin.

    Mabuhay!

  3. Had the same stand as Chi. Elect into public office the person deserving our votes, not the partido.

I believe that to Querubin, the party was a means to be included in the ballot and to get those votes.

saka na ko hahanga after 3 years kung manalo sila, baka kainin din sila ng sistema, tulad ni trillanes, sayang lang boto ko.

Korek Inga Nathan…wrong timing ang ginawang desposisyon nina Gen. Lim at Col.

    1) Villar’s local candidates have accepted reality and have started to defect to the Estrada camp.

    2) Speaker Prospero “Boy” Nograles of Davao City is all set to junk Gibo Teodoro and talk has it that he will be supporting President Erap.

    3) The announcement of Brother Mike Velarde of El Shaddai that he is not endorsing any candidate is another bad piece of news for Manny Villar and assures that at least 70 percent of El Shaddai members will now be free to vote for Erap.

    4) Erap wins Bulacan. In a grand miting de avance at the Malolos Sports Complex Monday night, 20,000 people turned out to voice their support for the Erap-Binay team.

    5) Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile swore into the Erap camp six Nueva Viscaya mayors who were originally for Noynoy.

    6) In Isabela, former Gov. Benjamin Dy announced in a meeting of mayors and leaders that he was supporting Erap.

    7) With JPE and son Jack spearheading the campaign in Cagayan, it is now certain that the Erap-Binay team will carry Region II.

    8) Erap is expected to win easily in Nueva Ecija, Bulacan and Zambales.

    9) Rep. Didagen Dilangalen who supports Villar reports that Erap will win by a landslide in Cotabato, a finding also reported by former Rep. Tony Dequina in his area.

    10) The same finding is shown in South Cotabato, Misamis Oriental, Iligan City, the Zamboanga and Davao areas.

    11) Antique Vice Governor Cadiao and 18 mayors are for Erap.

    12) Erap will win in Camarines Norte.

    13) In Lapu-lapu city, Barangay Captain Belong Arnayla who supports Erap is leading in that race…

    14) Dante Tinga who is running for mayor of Taguig attended the rally of President Erap at Pinagsama Village Phase I last night…

    15) The most recent survey for the City of Manila conducted by a reputable survey firm shows Erap winning over Noynoy 44 percent to 35 percent.

Hala kayo heto na ang pagbabalik ng Ama ng Masang Pilipino…part II of his unfinished tasks! He was a sacrificial lamb to open the pandoras box…ang KABULUKAN ng paglilingkod-bulsa ng mga trapos/tradpols at nasaksihan lahat who are the devils minion.

Heto ang kumentaryo ng isang journalist…Noynoy, however, cannot hinge his claim to the presidency on surveys, which use only about 2,000 respondents as samples. The Comelec has about 50 million in its eligible voters’ list which would prove if all the past surveys made by the various firms are really indicative of the majority’s choice.

Narito…Noynoy’s handlers have even made several social networking sites in the worldwide web as their own turf. Twitter and Facebook following, however, can only do so much to prop up a candidate’s chance. Not all social networking members are of voting age, or are still registered voters in the Philippines.

Many of them are based overseas. Many have double or triple accounts which they use to earn points in Farmville.

    See…!

  17. Tongue, re #11, Yes. Erap continues to include Danny Lim in his ticket as guest candidate.

In the Cavite rally of Erap that I covered, I saw Aika Lim as representing his Dad.

Aloy Lim said they asked permission from LP and pumayag naman daw.

I’m uncomfortable with that kind of reasoning.

  18. Aloy Lim said they asked permission from LP and pumayag naman daw.

Funny you say that: My note following Lim’s name in a blog post had something to do with his future election (assuming he does win).

They were not included by INC…kasi naman sigurista masyado ang INC I think they based it sa Survey ang pagpili nila. Check out their senatorial bets lahat nasa top 12 ng survey except Biazon.

  20. Nathan Nathan

It seems like a colateral Damnge… ika nga.

  21. Nathan Nathan

Yang INC naman or INK…

Maam Ellen is absolutely right,,, INC indorsed the Strong not the weak! All religious leader should be allowed to speak all they want. Their concerns and opinions as citizens and representatives of citizen groups matter, too. However, as far as actual influence in Politics – no political decisions should be made based on religion, intolerance. Stay Focus in spiritual things not Political.

So, religious Leaders should stay out of the actual Political Arena.

One OFW from Qatar nasaktan regarding Maams Ellen opinion, but its true,,, they indorsed the strong and in the future they can claim and proud that thier religion indorsed that President kaya nanalo.

How can we find the differences between Politicians & Religious like Quiboloy and Manalo,,, both are adopting the same tactics to achieve their GOALS.

  22. Nathan Nathan

    about no. 21 post….

sorry… typical error. thats a collateral Damage. hehe!

  23. Nathan Nathan

This is my Challenge to the Iglesia ni Cult or Iglesia ni Kenkoy….

Gloria indorsed by your leader Manalo,,, now, are you quitely happy and satisfied??? If you will say yes,,, your INC is in a delusion! Our country is under economic ruin due to the latest Debt/utang ni Gloria US$ 100 Billion dollars and deficit of Php 298 billion pesos 2009. Now, we belong to the heavily indebted poor countries! Are you proud of it INC??

INC… i challenge you… tell your Manalo leader to indorse Gilbert “Gibong-Giba” Teodoro and we will see kung yang ipinagyayabang nyong Manalo kung mananalo si Gibo?

  24. MPRivera MPRivera

I’m uncomfortable with that kind of reasoning. – Ellen

Indibiduwal samantalang sa senatorial, one among the twelve to be elected.

  25. You are right, MR. I’m uncomfortable with that. But I understand. And pwede ko nang pagpsensyahan having seen the sacrifices of these two officers.

  27. Lurker Lurker

I was told that the INC was asking for a “donation” of 3M to endorse a councilor running in QC. This came from a reliable source. Imagine, councilor 3M na. What about higher positions? How much would their “donations” be? Tsk tsk tsk…

  28. MPRivera MPRivera

Sa very sad to say I was not yet able to vote, eh. Dahil baga ‘yun aking OAV registration ay sa Jeddah and I can only vote in Jeddah. Why is this Commolection, like this baga? Why did they not inform us OAV’s that the last day of filing request for transfer of registration list from where one was duly registered as voter ay natapos na noon pang August 2009? They should have even circulated information regarding this Commolection memo but no. Not even an advisory through consulates and the embassy.

Eh! What am I afraid of is ‘yun bagang aking right to vote ay gamitin ng mga galamay ng babaeng balasubas, ey.

    Ala’y kasaklap!

May isang week pa namang natitira, eh.

Talaga! At walang utang is Sen.

Actually, I was looking forward to INC endorsing someone other than Noynoy. I wanted to see if he can win without any endorsements from any religious groups para walang utang na loob. Ngayon, he does not need my one vote anymore. 🙂

Sa ngayon nakikita ko ang mga candidates are all after sa mga religious group claiming may mga 5-6 million followers..Brother eddie said may 7 million daw siya pero last election not sure kung naka 7 million siya. It seems na asa ang mga candidates sa religious group then we should remove PMP, LP, LAKAS parties…magkaroon na lang ng INC,EL SHADAI, QUILBOY, parties paramihan na lang ng members then kung sino yun head nila yun na ang presidente.

Tama they are only after strong candidates (based sa survey). How can you vote Lito Lapid and Bong R hindi man lang pumupunta sa mga debate.

You should be more concerned with senators who do not report their expenses because ibig sabihin noon, hindi nila maa-account.
