I woke up this morning to find this blog suspended.
Ploghost, my service provider, said there was Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS)attack. Napa-research pa tuloy ako ng di oras about DDOS. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denial-of-service_attack
Ploghost said it was detected past 12 midnight by WordPress and they had to suspend my blog fearful that it would also extend to VERA Files, with whom I share platform.
They are still monitoring my blog in case the attacker makes another attempt.

Paalis na lang ang mga hinayupak, ayaw ka pa ring lubayan Mam Ellen.
Matter of minutes nga kagabi biglang nagsara ang blog. Mabuti na lang naayos and the blog is back.

Pakidamay naman, Ellen. Lahat ng accounts ko sa Google, either close na or blocked. Di kaya ginamit yung account ko as a bot? Reason ng Blogger e spam daw. That will help Abe eliminate the possible sources. Baka meron pang iba dito na nagamit din. Anyone with similar experience?
Last Sunday night, Gmail was so difficult to access.I almost didnt make it to the deadline of my Malaya column.

Yes, I was surprised about the suspension. I thought all the while your blogspot was suspended by an uknown power. However, a few minutes I tried again and ALAS!!!!! I was able to get in again.
Whew!!!! I thought we lost a spot where we can air our grievances.

Tried four times yata, at fifteen-minute intervals – wala. Then Ms. Tordesillas twitted about the account suspension. Saka pa lang ako nakatulog… It’s a relief to find this blog up and about when I woke up this morning.

“bot” as in robot. A zombie computer controlled remotely without the owner knowing it. Bots may be used to continually login, click links, send comments etc. A massive attack from thousands of bots all at the same time can send the hosts’ servers crazy and may shut down your site to protect their bandwidth. That’s DDOS.
You can detect suspicious activity by installing a system monitoring gadget/widget on the desktop to see any abnormal CPU/Memory/Disk/Network activity. I noticed that in the past days, my CPU was abnormally overworking that my CPU cooling fan was running full speed judging by the high-pitched whirring sound it was producing. A check with the widget says CPU was working 100% when I was just reading text files and viewing basic webpages. I checked with Task Manager and I found out Windows Error Reporting (werfault.exe) was communicating with an external computer and was eating all the resources. I closed it and my CPU meter was back down to 5-15%. Since then, all my troubles began.
In Blogger, I was blocked for spamming daw. Just recently installed upgrades to Windows Vista to fix security issues now this is what I get. I’ve not even upgraded to SP2 because it will disable my Webroot Spysweeper and PC-Cillin anti-virus. Just the same I know I was still screwed.

Nanghihinayang ako hindi dun sa blog mismo, madali namang gumawa ng bago. Nanghihinayang ako dun sa massive content at research ko sa Glorietta bombing kasama yung technical exchanges namin nila DJB at Jester, at yung sa Meralco vs. the Mafia na galing sa mga colleagues ko sa industry.
Yung mga nabuking ko sa internet, itinago na, gaya nung sa website ng VECO na nagsasabing partners nila ang Garcia Family kaya naman pala ganun na lang ang gigil ni Winston na matake-over ang Meralco. Ganundin yung sa Burgundy.
Marami pang iba. Ginagamit ngang reference ng mga estudyante sa eskwela yung dalawang posts na yun. Nakakainis.
Pero nagulat ako kanina dahil pati si Ellen napa-PI sa FB, hahaha. Galit na rin yung ale.

I also experience that from time to time. When that happens, there is a work-around. While the screen is blank, waiting for the connection to gmail, at the bottom right of the screen, there will be a message saying html only, for slow connections. If you click that, it would open up your gmail account in minimal mode (no pics, attachments of past emails, etc.). But you can still send emails with attachments.
Also, sometimes, when I suspect that somebody messed up my firefox browser, I used to switch to Opera. Now, I just uninstall firefox, and reinstall it from a download that I have on a usb stick, so I have a clean browser.
It also helps to limit use of Internet Explorer. That is the favorite attack target of pedestrian hackers (yung hindi magaling).
Do we have to wonder? Bakit nandito pa and mga smartmatic people? Dala pa nila yung Ms Universe nila. Maybe they are lobbying for the computerization ng komolek at BIR. Sabi ni Midget, sige ipakita muna ninyo ang inyong kakayahan. Ang resulta, nawawala ang mga blogs ng anti-midget! Kathang isip ko lang ito…
I am lucky to have a computer doctor just around the corner from my office so if I have problems, dinadala ko lang ang laptop ko, $ 60 lang nga per visit…ouch!
