Thank you note from Neonate’s daughter

We remember again Neonate with this letter from his daughter, Grace.

Dear Ellen,

It has been months since I visited my father’s blog, Winks and Blinks, so it was only today that I saw the link to your eulogy. It was very touching, and reading all the comments that followed brought me to tears.

In answer to your questions, there are three of us in the family – my mother, my brother and I. The baby you see in my father’s avatar is my brother’s son, who by happy coincidence is named Nathan. (Dad’s monicker neo.nate actually came before Nathan was born.) He passed away due to complications with pneumonia, as well as what we now suspect is bladder cancer, which he had been suffering for months. With his advocacy for healthy living and his abhorrence for invasive treatment (such as surgery) especially in his twilight years, he chose to

My father was based in Cagayan de Oro, where he worked and retired. He had, however, studied in the US Merchant Marine Academy in King’s Point, served in the Philippine Navy, and worked as an OFW in Kenya, hence his wide viewpoints.

Thank you to both you and your readers for remembering him.

Very truly yours,

Grace Garcia
