Ang tatlong Hongkong Canadian ay ang negosyateng si Ken Leung (58 taong gulang) at ang kanilang dalawang anak na babae na sina Jessie (14) at Doris (21). Nakaligtas Ang asawa ni Leung na si Amy Ng at Ang kanilang 18-taong gular na anak na lalaki na si Jason.
Inuperahan si Jason as utak dahil napukpuk raw siya ng malakas as ulo.
Humingi na ng paumanhin si Pangulong Aquino as pamahalaan ng Hongkong at China, na sumasakop as Hongkong. Bakit híndi niya ginawa yun as Canada?
Kahit ba sabihin mong hindi humihingi ang Canada ng paumanhin (at ayaw na siguro magdagdag pa sa problema ng Pilipinas) ay dapat naman magpadala ng mensahe si Aquino.

While it’s true that there are more OFWs in Hongkong than Canada, more and more Filipinos and other ethnic groups are migrating to Canada. The preference used to be the US but now it’s Canada. My take is that the three Canadians killed were of Chinese descent. If they were Caucasians, expect stronger reaction from Canadian government. Yes, racism is still alive in Canada just like in many other places.

Canada is not blaming the Philippine government or its agencies for the deaths of its citizens as their were no official words demanding apology from the government…PM Harper said that he is following the event and so far is letting the issue taken care by appropriate channels.
Yes, Canada respects dual citizenship and multiple citizenships wherever its citizen lives and it only has one class of citizen under its Equality Provision in its Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

At the moment there are approximately 300 thousands Canadian citizens Residing in Hong Kong mostly permanently acquired and granted after Hong Kong was ceded to China by the British. most return their homeland when mainland China agreed to give them their limited freedom to continue their way of life just like before becoming part of China. It is a Big issue in the Canada since their Children upon reaching secondary level or university can avail the subsidized education and can live and study in Canada enjoying the benefits of universal care and subsidized university without paying the corresponding taxes…pls note; citizens working and living out of the country in extended period are not subject to income taxes for income outside the country.
rose, my sister and her husband can use either Canadian, American or if they so decide Philippine passport…that is the beauty of one country respecting multiple citizenships.

Henry, Arcilla’s version is the DFA (Romulo) version. I talked with the same person that gave him that version. That was also told to me. If you go back to my account, that’s also included.
I talked to both Malacañang and DFA officials. When I say DFA officials, not just Romulo’s spokesman. Their versions differ.
Even in the DFA, the versions of Hongkong and other offices involved differ from the Romulo version.
The official authorized by Romulo to spread his version insisted to me that “the guidance from Malacañang was to wait for Tsang’s call.”
I asked him, “When Tsang did not call, did you not think of doing the calling because Hongkong was frantically telling you to please tell PNoy to call Tsang?” he replied,”But our guidance was to wait for Tsang’s call and not to set up the call.”
I asked, “Shouldn’t Romulo have taken the initiative to advise PNoy to call Tsang?” He answered, “But our guidance was to wait for Tsang’s call.”

Rose, hindi mangyayari na ang Pilipinas eh lalabanan niya ang US. Isang araw pa lang ubos na ang bala ng Pilipinas. Maliban na lang kung ang China ang magbaback-up sa Pinas. Yun pa. But I doubt if in the next 30 yrs may mangyaring ganyan. Hindi pa super power and China. Marami lang siyang pera. China’s priority is how to feed her over a billion people! Commerce driven siya!
Talking of racism.
Racism does not exist only in books, in laws, in charters or whatever. The fact is racism in North America, Europe, Asia and everywhere is very much alive. Even Obama was a victim of racist comments. Hindi nga lang garapalan. Those who believed that it doesn’t exist are dreaming that they are in a different world; believeing that just because they acquired citizenship in that country means that they are being accepted or treated as co-equal.
A case in point: Two applicants for a certain position. One is white and the other is a visible minority. The latter’s qualification is more superior to the white. The HR manager is white. Do we have to guess who got the job? Pwede pa siguro kung ang inaaplayan ay position ng caregiver or baby-sitter.
That’s what almost always the scenario in a job competition between whites and visible minorities. So it’s not surprising that big companies, banks and other business enterprises where top level and middle management are mostly staffed by white.
This is not to generalize however, because not all employers are of the same mindset. It’s just to show that racism exists everywhere and nobody can deny it. Even governments say that it’s not to be encouraged but somehow tolerated at some point in times.
florry @ above…you are talking more of Discrimination than Racism, but if the case is obvious you can always file complaints and perhaps gets monetary rewards for it. but anyways, even in a one’s own country discrimination is ever present. but just like anything there are law against discriminations and racism, but laws are made to be broken…sometimes one can get away with it, sometimes one get caught.

Ito ang stand ko kay PNoy. I don’t want him to resign because I believe in his honesty and that there’s enough room for progress. But I’d like him to learn the loops of the presidency fast fast enough before another natural or man-made crisis attacks.
I’d like him to end the turf-war between the Samar and Balay groups, and appoint only one, a sole authority in each of the government offices para madaling tukuyin kung sino-sino ang kakatayin namin. No power sharing! Accept the doctrine of command responsibility, and reign on his people. Hindi yung nagkakaletse-letse dahil trying hard at kanya-kanyang cover-ups para sa kanya ang naparami niyang grupong watak-watak, and he on the other hand, making cover-ups/clearing them of any kapalpakans.
I will not make excuses for his major kapalpakans because that will render me hopeless and that’s unhealthy for me and my motherland.

Discrimination and racism are one and the same thing. Both means bigotry or prejudice and both means discrimination or racism. Discrimination is just another name for racism to give a better feel of it.
When a white discriminates against someone who is colored or a visible minority what do you call that?
So defining two terms with the same meaning differently is like what Agatha Christie said:
“A rose by any other name and smells like it, is still a rose”.
And to sum it up, discrimination or racism smells like a dead rat, because they are just one and the same.

re the question on “sino ang kakampihan ko?” I was asked this when I wss interviewed by the officer before granted my citizenship..isa itong tinanong sa akin…just as I was questioned on “how many branches of gov’t do we have?”.
on racism…hindi ako nakaranas ng kahit ano tungkol dito kasi I look more Chinese/Spanish than Filipino…pero discriminated? yes…not by the gov’t per se pero sa mga ibang Americano particularly sa ilang mga JAPs (Jewish American Princess) or WASPs… because very Spanish ang pangalan ko at akala ako ay isang Puero Rican but I survived at nang dito pa ako..enjoying the fruits of my labor…the American dollars…hindi ako nahihiya na Filipina ako at Bisaya pa!
