Despite controversies, Aquino enjoys high performance and trust rating – Pulse Asia

Despite fumblings, enjoying high ratings
President Aquino enjoys approval and trust of the people despite several controversies in his five-month presidency as shown in the survey conducted by Pulse Asia last month.

In a nationwide survey conducted Oct 20 to 29, 2010, Pulse Asia said Aquino registered a performance rating of 79 per cent and trust rating of 80 per cent.

Pulse Asia said this is the first time they have conducted a survey on Aquino’s performance and the people’s trust on him as president because in the July 2010 survey they conducted, “although the President had already been proclaimed as such, survey respondents were asked to rate his performance during his last three months in the Senate.”

In the July 2010 survey, Aquino got an 88 per cent performance and 85 per cent trust rating.

Pulse Asia’s latest survey was conducted after the mixed assessment of the first 100 days in office of President Benigno S. Aquino III; the release of Malacañang’s review of the Incident Investigation and Review Committee’s (IIRC) report on the August 2010 Luneta hostage taking incident as well as the mixed reactions that the review drew, including the
disappointment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region over the President’s decision to spare top officials involved in the incident from criminal prosecution; allegations concerning the involvement in jueteng of some government officials; the clash between the Catholic Church and the President on the issue of reproductive health, as well as between the Supreme Court and the President on the latter’s move to rescind all midnight appointments made by his predecessor; and the proclamation issued by Pres. Aquino granting amnesty to Senator Antonio Trillanes IV and over 300 other military
officers and personnel involved in several mutinies against former President Arroyo.

Pulse Asia said “Almost two in ten Filipinos are unable to say if they approve or disapprove of President Aquino’s performance (18%) and if they trust or distrust him (17%).”

Rapa Lopa, a cousin of President Aquino has ceased to be president of Pulse Asia, which is now headed by Prof. Ronald Holmes.

A more vital question is how do Filipinos come up with perceptions of “high performance”?

Could the “high ratings” be from the well managed media image of the President? (Well managed in a sense that the President’s image is being handled much like that of a showbiz personality.)

Think of the 29 billion DSWD doleout program as the government’s version of Wowowee.

Contrast Aquino’s accessibility to that of Arroyo. We have access not only to the more official presidential thoughts on policies but also to his private ramblings. And are we not tickled of the Presidential love team?

No doubt, the President is highly entertaining. But the country needs an administrator. We are not in short supply of entertainers.

so far, personally President Aquino has not involved in any controversial issue of the magnitude that will affect the public perception of him negatively…most of the controversies were attributed to the bungling and ineptitude of the staff and of the system and many just simply the bad habits developed that has become the way of life for many…his own “controversial” thoughts and views on the issues is part of his personalities and may not sit well with many, but to equal numbers, it is a positive attributes they wanted from a Leader…so far there are no allegations of Multimillion Secret commissions on government contracts, illegal diversion of funds, government officials caught red-handed smuggling foreign currency in foreign lands…a million pesos dinner at fancy restaurant (when exposed, somebody paid the bill, instead of the taxpayers)and a family member or members getting rich miraculously…these are the issues that will in a blink of an eye will sink one popularity according to Pulse Asia and other surveys.

  4. Contrast Aquino’s accessibility to that of Arroyo. We have access not only to the more official presidential thoughts on policies but also to his private ramblings.

Good thing we didn’t have access to Arroyo’s evil thoughts or we could’ve had national nightmares, imagine knowing her thoughts on the Ampatuan massacre, NBN ZTE, fertilizer scam, and a host of other “lingkod bulsa” endeavors which she and her minions greedily helped themselves with – on the guise of infrastructure projects” kuno.
Yes there is a marked contrast, a lot of people loves the president, compare that to the seething anger towards Arroyo?
…and its high time money trickled to the poor, all this time it just went straight to the politicians’ pockets ang they promptly parked them in offshore bank accounts…at least this way, we’re sure that the money is spent here…
…and didn’t Arroyo spend a lot of dough for image consultants? and what about all those photo ops, tv coverage of all her ribbon cuttings, etc., just to appear busy? Well, Arroyo entertained us alright, in the line of horror movies… 🙂

I truly wish for President Aquino to succeed. If only he could be more leader-like…
I’ve been checking NEDA’s website regularly for the policy plans of this administration. It’s still not there.
There is plenty of news however about his lovelife and flipflops on a number of issues.

If the question is general, do you approve or disapprove, trust or not, then you get that 80 percent found on page 5.

If, however, you get into details, and focus on page 7, you get a maximum of 52 percent net.

    Fighting criminality, + 52
    Reducing poverty, + 29
    Controlling inflation, + 24

Trust to me, is like your score in conduct in grade and high school; whether or not you were a good boy. That is subjective, because teacher’s pets always get good grades here, but their math and english grades may be low. Those who were slightly rebellious, grow their hair long (a no no in my days), or were anti-government in discussions, got lower grades, even if they did not misbehave.

So if I were advising Noy, I would focus on page 7, because that is the real report card on his performance. Trust and approval are too general to form a basis for advice, as to what to improve.

Why try to improve when you are doing so well?

Ask the Japanese; specifically, ask Toyota, and Honda. Then ask the Detroit three (GM, Ford, Chrysler), what happened when they stopped trying to improve.

The guy who has Noy’s interest in his heart will look at page 7. The guy who only wants to increase his bulong power will tell Noy about page 5, and break out the champagne bottle.

The value of Freddie Roach to Pacquiao is that Roach can tell Manny what is wrong with his boxing; and can even tell Manny what time to go to sleep. And Pacquiao’s listening to good advice is what tuned him from a good boxer into a great one.

Nanay Dionisa would have no good input; all she can say, like all mothers, is Anak, ang galing mo. To her credit, she does not meddle, unlike the Father of Lydia de Vega.

We need more Freddie Roaches in Noy’s corner, and fewer showbiz moms, dads, and kaibigans.

The survey results are not surprising. Succeeding government officials who follow corrupt ones usually enjoy positive ratings in the polls in the beginning of their term. PeNoy enjoyed a wide margin over his opponents, so there are still people who supported him (including me) who hopes for good things to happen, for PeNoy to fulfill some of his campaign promises.

So far, the signs are not good. Nothing but smoke and mirrors.

#8, atty sax. The guy who has Noy’s interest in his heart will look at page 7. The guy who only wants to increase his bulong power will tell Noy about page 5, and break out the champagne bottle.

Most excellent advice a Noy die-hard could ever had! 🙂

  13. chi chi

#9. atty sax, sensitive at pigheaded si Noy e, while Pacman is a disciplined and happy ‘sociable’ person. 🙂 🙂 🙂

  14. chi chi

Well, at 80% trust approval rating “found on page 5”, PNoy is still very safe to do whatever he wants and what his heart dictates with gusto.

  15. balweg balweg

  17. balweg balweg

RE: There is plenty of news however about his lovelife and flipflops on a number of issues.~marc

Constractive negative criticism is healthy if na uunawain niya ito in positive way or else accountable siya sa kanyang action.

Hohum. . . Si Pacquiao na lang pag-usapan natin. Tama na yang mga survey-survey. Maraming di naniniwala diyan. Tingnan mo, talo tuloy sila. . .hehehe. . .Pacman na lang topic Ms Ellen. Please? 😛

That is a most unattractive photo of the president of the republic of pinas. 🙁

To be a good leader you must have the brains, balls and heart.

So far he has not shown the brains and balls, only the heart na binawi kay Shalani at ibinigay kay Lizzie Uy.

  25. Per-sidente “Noynoy” has shown a lot of heart for his BFF Rico Puno, “Noynoy” choosing loyalty-to-friends as his overriding priority.

  26. parasabayan parasabayan

Basta sa akin, too early to tell. I will wait for a few more months.

  27. Ahh.. power! It would make even a Quasimodo-look alike the handsomest creature on earth… 😀

  28. chi chi

    Hey Anna,

We had a good laugh at Reyna Elena’s house at FB. 🙂 🙂 🙂

  29. Hi Chi… 😀 😀 😀 😀

  30. binawi kay Shalani at ibinigay kay Lizzie Uy.

Maybe because Shalani, in his view, is already old. 😉

  31. Next year, he’ll pick on someone in her early 20s? 😉 And after that, in her teens? And after that? Never mind… 😛

  32. nah, noynoy doesn’t even hold a candle to our past macho presidents, the likes of marcos (dovie beams) and erap (two girls at one time)…
…with enough power, money, self confidence, women are easily swept off the floor, and these are good looking ones – the ones who are hard to get are the miriam santiago look-alikes but who wants to wake up in the morning to that face? of course if i were in his place i’d like to have someone inside my 18 – 25 years old bracket…

“Next year, he’ll pick on someone in her early 20s? And after that, in her teens? And after that? Never mind… ”

    Hope not into “pedophiling”.

  34. parasabayan parasabayan

Until then, I will not believe any news.

  35. tru blue tru blue

“Hope not into “pedophiling”.” – florry

That’s going overboard to infer such word to a president, whether you constantly disagree with what he does. Remember the Golden Rule, or better yet; sticks and stones!

  36. the ones who are hard to get are the miriam santiago look-alikes but who wants to wake up in the morning to that face?

Yeah! Could very well imagine a Miriam-look alike and this current president together would produce horendous progeniture, you know, someone in the likes of Vlad the Impaler.

We were “in a nightmare” then, di ba? 😛
