Foreign Affairs Secretary Romulo has cleared his office at the Department of Foreign Affairs, a source said.
A Malacanang source said former Ambassador to the United States Albert del Rosario will take over in the DFA next week.
Unconfirmed reports that President Aquino will give Romulo a golden parachute: permanent representative to the United Nations, the position held by former Supreme Court Justice Hilario Davide. The position is based in New York.
Career foreign service officers, who had long wanted Romulo out for incompetence are glad that he is finally out but are not happy of him going to the UN. One officer said:”The UN deserves better.Mahirap magpatay ng sunog dun. Hindi niya kaya yun.”
The source said Romulo’s things rrom his DFA office were all contained in 18 boxes.

My question right now is what will happen to those ambassadors who have overstayed in their assignements. Marami yang mga yan. One of them, is using the name of romulo for her/him to overstay in her/his assignement. She/He is assigned in one of the Asian countries near the Philippines.
Will the replacement of romulo calls her/him back to the Philippines and tell her/him to “pack up your things, your long overdue”? I hope so.
Will the replacement of romulo now listens to the people of DFA? I hope so.

I give Romulo an F- for his excecrable performance as DFA chief. Why would anyone re-assign someone who’s been a total failure at his job to another diplomatic post is beyond me.
If there is a season for everything. Also there is a reason for everything. Post World War II Philippine Governance gradually deteriorated, partly decayed because of failure to see the rationale or reason for Civil Service administration. Retirement is the broken key. P NOY administration is adopting the Civil Service kalakaran of hiring to key positions in government civilian or military retirees.
Retirement and its reason for being becomes a joke. Succession, infusion of new blood, spontaneity, new vigor and energy, bridging the generation gap, keeping up with rapid technology has been set aside by the hiringof retirees.
There is no dearth in the pros and cons. The wisdom of retirees is only made obsolete by Alzheimer disease. But history and experience other countries (ask Vic and AdeB) could tell us what might be best. The retirees probable dysfunctional contributions in the Administration of Gloria Arroyo must speak for itself. And PNoy better learn from it.
Retirement should have its own reason so that those who have served may enjoy the last years of their long life. Of course, for the armed forces retirement at 56 is too young. There is not reason or wisdom but narrow thinking somewhere.
Retiree may engage themselves in civic work, so their yojngs may strive to support themselves.
If ever hired to govt positions it must only be in Advisory capacity never to decide or to command. Leave those crucial responsibility to the young and robust.
