JDV’s connection to Gaddafi

Gaddafi
In the light of the United Nations Security Council’s strong action Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Al-Gaddafi, former House Speaker Jose de Venecia’s letter to the beleaguered strongman seems an exercise in futility and just a boast of his international connections.
jdv

The 15-nation UN Security U.N. Security Council Saturday unanimously imposed travel bans and froze the assets of Gaddafi, members of his family and inner circle as he continued to crack down on escalating protests against his 42-year authoritarian rule.

More than a thousand have already been killed and more blood is expected to spill on the streets of Tripoli, where Gaddafi is expected to hold firm as long as he could. He won’t do a Hosni Mubarak. He had warned, “At the suitable time, we will open the arms depot so all Libyans and tribes become armed, so that Libya becomes red with fire.”

But his supporters are abandoning him. Libya’s deputy U.N. ambassador, Ibrahim Dabbashi has defected saying the Gaddafi government has lost credibility. His constant travel companion, a “voluptuous blonde nurse” Galyna Kolotnytska, is reported to be heading home to Ukraine.

JDV’s letter was written Friday before the UN sanction, coursed through Acting Secretary of Foreign Affairs Albert del Rosario. Vintage JDV, it praised Gaddafi’s achievements in “modernizing” and abandoning its nuclear power program. Then he suggested for the Libyan strong man to form an “Interim, Transition Government of National Salvation” might still offer the Tripoli leadership, its urban opposition, Libyan civil society, and Libya’s tribal groupings a political framework for sitting down and reasoning together.”

He also suggested that.” Under the aegis of the United Nations, perhaps your Government should urgently invite a special United Nations Mediation Team to mediate the crisis in Libya before it metes out more suffering and bloodshed among the Libyan people and prevent the dreaded final confrontation between citizens protesters, private militia and the Armed Forces.”

Is JDV being presumptuous in writing Gaddafi? Maybe not. Actually, JDV’s “friendship” with Gaddafi dates back to the Marcos years when his Landoil Corporation was doing a lot of business (this is another controversial project, especially the one in Iraq, which would require a separate column) in the Middle East and Africa.

It should be recalled that the Marcos has sought the help of Gaddafi in brokering the agreement with Nur Misuari’s Moro National Liberation. That’s why there’s the “Tripoli Agreement” promising for an autonomous region that would include 13 provinces “subject to constitutional processes.”

Marcos utilized wife Imelda in seeking the help of Gaddaffi. She was received in his luxurious desert tent.

JDV with FVR also had also visited Gaddafi in his dessert tent. In late 1991, FVR disappeared during the pre-election campaign period. All sorts of rumor circulated about that trip. One was that he had to rush London to comfort someone very close who was feeling despondent.

When FVR was already president, he revealed to the late Nelly Sindayen of Time Magazine, that he had a secret meeting with Gaddafi arranged by JDV, who was with him during the trip. The official explanation was that he sought the help of Gaddafi with the MNLF.
There were so many loopholes in that story because FVR was still a candidate at that time. What was his authority to deal with Gaddafi?

One rumor that was never confirmed but refused to die was that the trip had something to do with funds that was used during FVR’s campaign. We will never know the truth about that mysterious trip except that they met with Gaddafi and they had photos to prove that.

JDV’s letter may have been overtaken by events. But there was no loss in his effort to appeal to Gaddafi’s “statesmanship” which he had been privileged to witness. Besides, anything that would help save Filipino workers trapped in Libya is never futile.

Granting that Gaddafi is a Leader of a country, Dictator he maybe, but why would a leader of a Democracy like De Venecia will boast or his frienship when it is the same Man that was suspected of ordering the bombing of a Passenger Jet up in the Sky? and now it is unravelling that he so ordered the bombing…

When Gaddafi Airplane ask permission to stopover Newfoundland on its back just last year or so ago upon his return from a UN appearance, the Government of PM Harper refused permission…although Canada has some companies doing business in Libya (there is still no sanction against Gaddafi and there will be one soon to hasten his downfall) you can not just compromise your principle with these kind of Leaders…and De venecia dealing with one would not surprise anyone at all…

  3. Gaddafi will fall soon.Libyan people will hang him upside down to a highest lampost.

The same feather flocks together…

A thousand Libyans already dead killed by their own president Gaddafi! Si Marcos at Mubarak may conscience pa compared with this dictator-killer!

Maraming Andres Bonifacio sa Libya, mabuhay sila!

Naging milyunaryo si JdV dahil sa Landoil Corporation which he insured at the Llyod’s of London.

A former staff confidante of JdV told me the whole story, which he said the former speaker was so proud of to narrate over and over again to the neophytes. How he built up his oil empire and ultimately collected from Lloyd’s was too way complicated for my non-business mind to comprehend and remember. Bottom line, naibenta nya ang Pinas if he became president.

nang mabangkrap o sinadyang ibangkrap ang Landoil…

O di me trabaho pa OFW. Madali pang ma tax at malapit pa sa pamilya nila, diba?

Kailangan irekuminda kay penoy yan. Ikukunsulta niya sa legal team niya. Lilipad yan.

  12. Even if we hate Garfield that much, truth to tell, he is respected in the global political community probably more than any living Pinoy is.

A lunatic despot in the mold of Gaddafi will reject all challenges to his political and military might at any cost. Decades of powertrip will not go away overnight. JDV’s diplomatic approach might just be the correct angle to pursue. Sa Tagalog, “inuuto” ang tawag diyan. It has worked in many situations (Makoy, Erap, maybe Mubarak too, etc.) that the target is reminded of his historical essence and the legacy he leaves behind, blah blah blah, in order to allow him graceful and “honorable”, if you will, exit.

He then deludes himself that his last official act was one of heroism and unparalleled statesmanship.

Zenga Zanga. Enjoy!

  16. Former Press Secretary Jesus Dureza wrote about his three meetings with Gaddafi:

Another remarkable event to me was when Col Qaddafi, in his initial greetings with PGMA immediately asked : “How is Imelda?”, referring of course to former First Lady Imelda Marcos. PGMA answered saying “she is well” etc and in Manila. The Leader nodded and remained silent for a while – clearly reminiscing. Madame Imelda, if we all recall, was our country’s travelling envoy to Libya while then President Marcos was grappling with the problems posed by the Moro National Liberation Front headed by Nur Misuari. It was everybody’s belief that Imelda was able to charm the Great Leader during her missions. Remember press reports about grand banquets and pompous tent gatherings during those times when Madame Imelda came a-visiting.

When PGMA thanked him for his contributions to peace in the Philippines, he started saying (through an interpreter) that his help to the Philippines now to find peace was because he committed a big mistake. He explained that he started helping the Muslims fight government in the previous period because he thought that the Philippine government was trampling upon Muslims, killing them and fighting Islam. He said he saw a TV documentary that showed how Muslims were being massacred. That made him pledge that he would support the rebels. It was only later, he said, that he found out that while there were incidents against Muslims, it was not a government policy but some incidents committed by groups. His help to the peace process was to rectify the wrong he committed to the Philippines by supporting the rebellion in the previous years. He said that he is more convinced now that Muslim minorities all around the world must find peaceful relations with the majority non-muslims.

I remember those times, I was in college (first year), as I said earlier – the blue ladies, the sexiest ,prettiest, charming, group you’ve ever met, Madame Imelda’s entourage.
Probably our version of the geisha? Imelda in her prime was very beautiful, she had long perfect legs, perfect complexion, and she carried herself well too. If I’m going to compare first ladies or would be, it would have to be Gilbert Teodoro’s…

  18. 8 Bloodthirsty Dictators Who Benefited From U.S. Aid

Many of the world’s most repressive dictators have been friends of America. Tyrants, torturers, killers, and sundry dictators and corrupt puppet-presidents have been aided, supported, and rewarded handsomely for their loyalty to US interests. Traditional dictators seize control through force, while constitutional dictators hold office through voting fraud or severely restricted elections, and are frequently puppets and apologists for the military juntas, which control the ballot boxes

  19. Yan ba yung interview ni Sandra Aguinaldo? Sabi ni Imelda, “They were looking for skeletons in my closet, they found shoes instead. The skeletons were in their hacienda”. Something to that effect. Hahaha. Taray ng lola nyo.

  20. Let’s not forget the plunder generals. After some insistent pushing, Newsbreak has published the transcript of Clarita Garcia’s illegible handwritten statement to US Customs agent Matthew Van Dyke.

    Here’s a peek:

As the wife of a general, I am afforded several privileges including a 4,000 gallon per month gasoline allowance, security detail and five drivers. I have a military cook that also provides piano music upon request.

My husband’s position in the Armed Forces is one of privilege. The gratitude monies that he receives are common and unsolicited.

Contracted companies and personnel from the different branches of the armed services are grateful for my husband’s assistance and timely payments for contracted work.

Funny why the omBADsgirl didn’t even consider as evidence the sworn statement of the wifey before they decided on the plea bargain.

Still, I admire Kadapi for not kissing his own ass and didn’t self promote himself to General. Unlike, Sarhento Idi Amin, General Dada kaagad.

    Mike, tru,

Out of the 223 cases filed and convicted under her watch, 221 were cases of the mayor of Nakar, Quezon. One Iloilo mayor, and one Nueva Ecija city mayor.

Niloloko talaga tayo ng putang bruhang ito!

Tongue, galit na galit na si Farinas! He said he will file for the impeachment of the justices who approved Malditas’ SC petition even without receiving the documents on her case.

I watched the impeachment hearing in Congress yesterday. Yung Cagas, parang naka-dope. There was overwhelming support to impeach Malditas! Malapit na ang isang ito. Impeaching her is better than creating the Truth commission under Davide. If when Pnoy leaves and he turns out to be another corrupt president( huwag naman sanan) in the end, I will also support the impeachment of his appointed Ombudsman para usigin din siya balang araw.

  32. rose rose

kung msimpeach si Maldita will she be entitled to gov’t benefits na parang retirement? nakita ko ang mukha niya sa Umagang kay ganda…nasira tuloy ang umaga ko.

Kamag-anak sigurado yan. Kaya pumapapel si JDV.
