Last week, the talk show, “ANC Presents” hosted by Lynda Jumilla discussed President Aquino’s choice of people to help him govern the country. She invited me to be one of her guests together with Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda and political analyst Ma. Zenia Rodriguez of the University of Sto. Tomas. For your weekend viewing.

It is not analogous that choosing and electing a president is like choosing a husband or a wife. Some instances approaches stark similarities. Examples are in cases of relatives, bosom friends and even enemies. You elected Noynoy, you get as bonus his relatives and friends and party mates automatically. Over the years relatives and friends become relatives of relatives; friends of friends, until it becomes a political power culture of impunity. There is no end to it until the figure head end its rule. When the figure head embraces and propagates a culture of impunity, so becomes the government and private sector bureaucracies.

When Lord Acton pontificates: “Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely,” he did not say how quick or how slow. Probably because it doesn’t matter. Although it will appear that corruption can aim for the speed of sound while reversing it assumes the speed of a turtle or snail.

So who are P NOY’s relatives and friends (classmates or whatever)? When P Noy and his retinue turns business parasitism with government into an inimical but profitable symbiosis embracing his and their relatives and friends, say good bye to matuwid na daan.

The big POINT unwritten and unsaid is that some or most of P Noy’s relatives and friends could do the country a lot of good yet unseen in our country’s history. They should be so challenge when P Noy administers their oaths.

There should be less problems if friends and kabarilan ni Pnoy were efficient, effective and competent in the areas they are appointed into, kesyo puro inutile and palpakeshyon.

Double jeopardy tayo nyan!

Dapat scrutinize ng todo ng CA itong si Domingo Lee, baka he’d take it from JDV ang Gloria and proceed selling Pinas to China.

  3. Done deal na yang si Domingo Lee. As Lynda Jumilla said at the end of the show, panoorin na lang natin habang nag-oOJT si Domingo Lee.

  4. I am an equal opportunity advocate. It doesn’t matter which clique on person belongs to, but by gum, the foremost criteria should always be COMPETENCE.

Totoy Diokno, Rico Puno, Virginia Torres, while back then, Bert Romulo, Jojo Ochoa, now Domingo Lee.

    Are you kidding me?

  5. chi chi

My golay!!!

  6. If you noticed,Lacierda singled out Domingo Lee’s most outstanding qualification:ambassador-at-large for Asia pacific during Cory Aquino’s time.

Ambassador at large is a calling card position. Wala yan. You don’t have duties and responsibilities. Pang-calling card lang yan.

  7. Agree, agree, Tongue. #4.

  8. saxnviolins saxnviolins

Agree # 6 Walang country assignment yan.

Or maybe, ambassador-at-largesse.

Imagine being appointed a judge-at-large. How about secretary-at-large?

  9. chi chi

Noynoy’s song dedicated to his KKK:

    “Keep smilin’, keep shinin’
Knowin’ you can always count on me, for sure
    That’s what friends are for
For good times and bad times
I’ll be on your side forever more
    That’s what friends are for”

  12. parasabayan parasabayan

Wasn’t this the same accusation against the late mother?

I do not have a problem on his hiring those he knows but I have a problem with his dragging his feet to remove them when they err. Mabuti pa si Diokno, at least he resigned.

  13. parasabayan parasabayan

Kung hindi niya hihintuan ang ganitong pamamalakad, hiring the KKKs, his popularity rating will keep going down. Makinig sana din siya sa sinasabi ng mga tao and should avoid hiring these KKKs.

  14. andres andres

Par for the course. All appointees are under the microscope. Interested applicants vying for the choice positions. . . digging up dirt and mud. . . they can’t dig up anything against the President so they might as well just focus on the underlings to erode public confidence. . .very basic psyops 101. .Look what Gloria’s henchmen in the House are desperately trying to do. . . KKK. . . pathetic! Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. . . tsk! Torres at LTO? China is a superpower now. They don’t care kung sino man ang Amba natin sa kanila. U can’t hope about talking diplomacy with them without a credible Blue water Navy to back up your foreign policy. 😛

Keep the taxpayers or peoples’s money totally out of their reach. Sa mga incompetent ( o mga tanga) naman, No Mercy also, keep them out of the way of good governance because mistakes are expensive and could be fatal to public policy (tuwid na daan).

Judicious No Mercy for the corrupt and the incompetents is why many keep reading and writing to Ellen’s blog.

The big POINT unwritten and unsaid is that some or most of P Noy’s relatives and friends could do the country a lot of good yet unseen in our country’s history. They should be so challenge when P Noy administers their oaths.

On Presidential hiring and firing, business HRD principles could in many cases apply.

Regardless of KKK, or KKK regardless. Qualifications is not the same as competence. Education, training and experience (qualifications) indicates potential of future performance. If competence (certainly not KKK) is more than the ability to do things successfully but its dynamic aspects of actually doing it for a given period becomes the cause and criteria for cabinet reshuffles, reassignment, FIRING, etc., then there’s no likelihood of kapit tuko for the non-productive, inefficient officials.

Some but actually very many appointments (eg. in COA, etc.) of P Noy which may have successfully met unwritten criteria indicates the need to have written vetting rules that should be tied to rules for cabinet reshuffles, reassignments, and firing. All these are easier said than done. I am still for No Mercy in keeping the incompetents out of the way of good governance, because the incompetents even among the non-KKKs, constitute significant part of P Noy’s harms way.

Because Media is a most effective instrument of IEC (information, education, communications) Media should be very careful of the modern two Ds, and that’s Demolition and Demonization. Lest be media be accused what they dished out is illegally paid for. Any government official can be demolished and demonized by media disseminated alleged corruption or incompetence.

I am just saying what everybody already knows.

  19. andres andres

Innocence of a little boy is what people liked with PNoy, para siyang si Joshua.

Tama si Henry, wala daw iskandalo si PNoy. But being president does not need credibility, it also needs COMPETENCE!

    Right Ellen?

  20. andres andres

Correction: does not only need credibility

  21. Andres, re #19. I would not describe PNoy the way you did. But he has to do something with his working style.

  22. Henry, I’m disappointed that you would say this: “Wag nyo nang patulan yung Amba sa China, Dios mio!

  23. henry90 henry90

    Mama Ellen,

I said that in jest. That’s the sad truth about being a ‘weak’ nation economically. You can’t put muscle behind your foreign policies. Will it make a difference even if we put the best man we have there as the Amba? Look what happened to the Binay delegation that worked to stay the execution of the drug mules. The Chinese simply don’t care. Vice President na natin yun ha? Obviously, they have a very low regard for us.

  24. henry90 henry90

Mam not Mama. . .sensya na Mam Ellen. . .

  25. florry florry

Noynoy is being labeled as honest, incorruptible; no scandal in his name and nothing that can be thrown against him, that’s why his KKKs are the subject of attacks. That’s debatable. Nothing however had been said about his competence, leadership skills and work ethics, which is considered as an admittance of his lack of it. By and large, incompetence is more costly than corruption. Corruption can be minimized, while incompetence is incurable, success is almost impossible and has a lasting effect.

Personally, I have nothing and it’s neither a problem nor a crime for Noynoy to appoint his KKKs in the government. What can be considered a crime if these KKKs committed the “crime of clinging to the post” even if found guilty of the “crime of incompetence” and that the appointing power (Noynoy) does not possess the “G” (guts) word to fire them. Blame it on the blind loyalty of Noynoy to his KKKs, who only sees the color yellow in them.

As having the right opponent and supporters help win an election, having the wrong friends and “nannying” them help sink a government.

After all digging of political graves is being started at the prick of a toothpick.

  26. henry90 henry90

Critics still have five years to do it. I suggest they start now. Otherwise, as in Cory’s time, they will just gnash their teeth and pull their hair in frustration. Or they can run for President also. 😛

  27. Henry, that’s a defeatist attitude re #22.

  28. andres andres

Arrogance… Another quality of PNoy’s people and supporters. They think they know everything just like some of them here.

Noynoy will end up just like her mother, may God bless her soul, going against the corrupt and being vindictive and will end up not doing anything really significant.

The way the Aquino administration is going right now, there are no clear cut objectives and plans.

  29. Al Al

Henry, have you given up on your idol PNoy that you have to resort to arrogance. This refers to your mayabang na comment
    #26.

  30. baguneta baguneta

  31. henry90 henry90

    Al,

Ok lang yung comment mo na mayabang. Sad to say, that’s politics for you. May kumagat ba? What happened in 1986 e gustong ulitin uli? Develop ourselves economically first and then we talk serious business with them. Di tulad ngayon. Magtitigas-tigasan tapos takbo sa Kano? Anong mayabang diyan? Pareho lang tayong nagbabasa ng balita. Ano kayo bulag?

At least naninindigan.

Hindi mo ba suportahan si PNoy dito?
