More, Mr. President

Body language tells it all
Go on, Mr. President. Give the mob what they want. Don’t waste the momentum that you have gained. Take over the Arroyo appointees-dominated Supreme Court. Your popularity will rise higher no Philippine President has ever achieved.

You were right in humiliating Chief Justice Renato Corona. He deserves it for being Gloria Arroyo’s lackey.

Teach him a lesson for conspiring with Arroyo in putting one over the people and assuming the top SC position when the 60-day election ban was in force.

You are right about reminding him, to his face and in public, and the people that he is a “midnight” appointee.

I’m just curious, Mr. President. Since the House of Representatives is under your control, why didn’t you try impeaching Corona for the anti-Pnoy decisions that the Arroyo-appointees dominated court made?

On the other hand, forget the question. Impeachment is tedious, exhausting process. Better to shame him publicly to compel him to resign. Better yet, let your mob take over the High Court.

Anyway, the public loves what you are doing.

In an ABS-CBN TV Patrol text and call-in survey last Monday, of the more than 1,000 who responded, 80 percent approved, while 20 percent disapproved, of what you did to Corona at the 1st National Criminal Justice Summit,.

Pulse Asia’s latest survey (Nov 10-23, 2001), taken after the filing of the electoral sabotage case against Arroyo and her arrest, showed that a high “72% of Filipinos are appreciative of President Aquino’s performance while 74% trust him.”

On the other hand, Pulse Asia said, “less than one in ten Filipinos (9%) is critical of and distrusts the President. Ambivalence toward presidential performance and trustworthiness is expressed by nearly the same percentages of Filipinos (19% and 17%, respectively).”

Your opponents make fun of your intellect. But you are a lot smarter than them, Mr. President. You know that if you are at a loss with the more serious stuff like the economy, give the people entertainment. And what is more entertaining than “sabong” at the highest level?

You complained about the decisions of the High Court against your administration:

“We started by creating the Truth Commission, which was supposed to look into the alleged widespread acts of corruption during the past administration, and to hold those responsible for them to account. We had no other purpose for this than to address past wrongdoings as quickly as possible. But we all know what happened: The Supreme Court said that the formation of the Truth Commission was unconstitutional. From the onset, obstacles had already been put in our path.

“It is within the Comelec’s duties to make certain that our elections remain fair. So it is but natural that they ask for the assistance of the DOJ in investigating the allegations of cheating back in 2007. The formation of such panels is not uncommon, and yet once again the Supreme Court is questioning it. They are also questioning the legality of the warrant of arrest issued by the Pasay Regional Trial Court to Mrs. Arroyo.”

You even brought up your crusade when you were a senator: opposition to the creation of districts in Camarines Sur, the turf of one of Gloria’s sons, Rep. Dato Arroyo.

You said: “Another decision we have trouble accepting concerns the creation of districts in Congress: Article 6, Section 5 of the Constitution states that every district must have a population of more than 250,000. The problem was, there were areas that could not achieve this number–such as Camarines Sur, which has a population of about 176,000. When I was still in the Senate, as Chairman of the Committee on Local Government, I questioned the creation of this district, though the Supreme Court only junked the inquiry. The question now is: If the establishment of a district no longer relies on population, on what basis, then, will lawmakers rely? Does this mean that we continue to have rules on the creation of cities, but we have none for provinces or districts in provinces? I commiserate with the new chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Government, Senator Bongbong Marcos: I wish you good luck in resolving this problem; I tried my best to do so in my time.”

But Mr. President, I’m disappointed you didn’t bring up the Hacienda Luisita decision.

Interesting caption on the photo …. Unfortunately, I am not very fluent in body language. The words in the background are more intelligible : CRIMINAL JUSTICE.

Go on Mr. President. You are our best hope to get rid of corrupt people like the Arroyos and their controlled Supreme Court.

I admired your courage and sincerity, together with the people around you.

Never mind those do not agree with your actions. Where are they when those people are stealing our money and getting away with it.

I felt there will be a brighter future ahead of us.

Just don’t swallow hook line and sinker the latest antics and tantrums of Noynoy that it’s all about justice for the people he is fighting for. 99% of it is about the loss in the Hacienda Luisita case. That’s the crown jewel of the Aquino-Cojuangco family where they draw all there power and wealth at the expense of the poor tenants and have been enjoying it all these years.

The Arroyo cases and the light jabs against the SC before the HLI decision are just appetizers before the main menu. It’s just some kind of pre-emptive move, laying the groundwork for a brutal bashing in anticipation of unfavorable decision on the HLI case. So it’s not surprising to see him unleashed his fist and fury against the men and women of the third co-equal branch of government after they unanimously voted in favor of the farmers. It only shows that he is a sore loser, counting and using his loses as a springboard for the attack, while in fact it’s all about the family business.

The HLI case has been going on for decades and many lives have been wasted. Thanks to the SC especially in their unanimity in their decision.

Never before had there been so sincere and brave to decide against the dynasty and serve justice to where it’s due as they are.

In this particular case they deserved the respect of the people.

    Ellen,

What’s the need to bring up Hacienda Luisita when Aquino promised to distribute and in the same way agree to court ruling?

I also find it quite odd Aquino need to shame Corona, not that shaming him is wrong but what effect does he expected since obviously shame is not something Corona has.

I’m just curious, Mr. President. Since the House of Representatives is under your control, why didn’t you try impeaching Corona for the anti-Pnoy decisions that the Arroyo-appointees dominated court made?

Corona hasn’t done anything impeachable yet, other than have a big “conflict of interest” when deciding on Arroyo’s cases. Since 2006 ko pa sinasabi ito. His actions and decisions are still constitutional and legal, even though it stinks of partisanship and sometimes unethical, sometimes incomprehensible. This is Arroyo’s legacy. PNoy is just telling the truth about GMA’s spokesperson.

The SC is still under Arroyo’s grip, so there’s a potential deadlock here between the executive and aRroyo’s judiciary.

  12. i like what one commenter said on this issue and i’m paraphrasing… something like tinira ni pnoy ang amo ni corona, kaya tinira rin ng GMA-corona team ang hacienda luisita…

Lalong nag-ngitgnit si PNoy sa SC after the decision of Hacienda Luisita. Before ang tinira niya lang yung mga appointees ni Gloria, but now the whole SC. The SC voted 15-0, unanimous in favor of the farmers. It’s clear as day.
By the way, I’m in no way in favor of that decision. I wouldn’t be happy too as a landowner if my property will be given away just like that.

  18. Mike Mike

If the SC would vote on the HL because of the questionable acquisition of the vast property. Behest loan from the Cojuangco clan before. Then, I would totally agree.

Whats going on between President Pnoy (Executive and the SC-Judiciary, CJ most especially), means, “Enough is Enough “..The peak point for Hope and Chnage in the governance of the country, Philippines is getting closer. President Pnoy needs around a dozen of “ala” Gen. What does the yellow ribbon of Penoy mean? Here are their body languages:

Penoy: Johnny, bakit wala kang yellow ribbon?
Johnny: (Kinapa ang kaliwang dibdib)He-he-he. He-he-he…

    Body language tells it all:

Noynoy kay Corona habang kinakamayan: Takot ka sa akin at nahihiya kaya hindi ka makatingin at nakayuko ka.

Corona: Oo nga takot na takot ako kaya nakapikit at nakayuko ako kasi nakanganga ka at bumubuga ang bunganga mo ng amoy usok ng sigarilyo at nahihinga ko. Parang feel kong that’s more dangerous to my health than your tirades and insults.

  34. “Better to shame him publicly to compel him to resign. Better yet, let your mob take over the High Court.”

Interesting, because Corona used the same tactics in 2001 to oust Erap.

    web.archive.org/web/20060526013615/http://edition.cnn.com/2001/ASIANOW/southeast/01/19/philippines.estrada.04/

Renato Corona, Arroyo’s chief of staff told reporters, “I hesitate to use the word negotiations. … It’s more like our panel telling the president he has until six o’clock to resign and leave, and if he does not this whole crowd will march to (the presidential palace) Malacanang.”

I wish we had videos of renato corona when he was arroyo spokesperson in 2001.

  35. They should go for the jugular already, finish Corona, capitalize on his midnight appointment by an illegitimate president making him illegitimate himself.
People want winners, dragonslayers, slay the dragons already.
The economy will follow regional and global patterns, any artificial intervention by the government will only worsen the impact maybe even result to increased inflation, th message should be “lets tighten our belts, save, conserve, spend wisely.”
Yes, its true, the people need a spectacle, like the gladiators in Roman times, the mob needs to be entertained, they need to see blood.
Its funny how people use “mob rule” loosely nowadays, who are we referring to? The people? Since when did the people or “the mob” ever wielded power? Perhaps during EDSA 1?
Why don’t we focus our guns on the real powerful “mob?” The kind we call “organized crime” its still called mob? The mafia is called a mob? So why not focus on the coopted justices’ mob? or the afp mob? Or the mob that put and protected (and is still protecting)their “capo” Glori in power?
Read the mafia novels. The “mob” perpetuates power by greasing the palms of the police, the judges, investing long term in politicians, putting them in place. That is the mob.

This is probably the only time we have someone who dared to speak out against this mob, unfortunately some people are so shallow not to see it. Some people are so used to talking behind someone’s back that they can’t appreciate confrontation – chismosa/chismoso, thats all they ever will be.

Mob doesn’t only refer to the seething masses, there is a mob that is more powerful and more influential, and its certainly not us the electorate.

  36. johnmarzan,

Yes. Mas masahol pa tong Arroyo mob, now they want to look like sila ang inaapi?

  37. “Better to shame him publicly to compel him to resign. Better yet, let your mob take over the High Court.”
    ———————————-

What is the option, let this mob stay?

The “your mob” has another name – electorate.

  38. The “mob” has evolved already, its not anymore the angry, foaming on the mouth, sweaty, bad smelling, lawless, unruly crowd. Its a highly organized criminal group that has positioned its tentacles in the government that they can rule with impunity but still make it legal.
They tout the “rule of law” while plundering and destroying the country from within.

Watch the Arroyo mob in action.

. We’re being taken for a ride by the 8 Glorious justices in the highest court of the land, and all that some people can utter is “Accept it. It is the rule of law.”

Rule of law. Rule of law… My foot! Take off the blinders.

Gloria and her justices have twisted and bent the rule of law and used it to slap us around with…. and we are told to just follow it? Because they are the court? Heck, I don’t see any halos floating over their bloated heads.

If we stuck to this rule of law mantra during Marcos’ time, where would we be today? This mantra is silly when applied to what is happening in the SC.

  43. From the title to the last paragraph, i’m definitely entertained.

Reminding PNOY about The Hacienda, after he reminded Corona that his crown was forged in haste, gives perfect highlight to the title, “More, Mr. President”.

The three branches of government are supposed to counter check each other right? We have seen sufficient evidence of the Executive and the Legislature counter checking each other often enough.

But the Supreme Court has relatively been spared from too much counter checking because of this Rule of Law mantra.

“They’re the Supreme Court. They’re the highest court. Their word is final. Don’t dare criticize them. We have to bow before their decisions. Or else our country will break up. Respect the rule of law. Respect the rule of law.”

Shades of ignorant superstitious tribesmen of Africa!

Speaking of shades, remember the Marcos-appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court holding an umbrella to shade his beloved queen from the elements?

Untouchable court judges and justices? Give them respect? Respect is earned, not commanded.

And here’s another silly mantra. “If you can’t give them respect, at least respect their positions.”

Of course, we respect the positions of judges and justices. That’s why we are railing so much about the way those positions are being abused and disrespected. It’s the ones occupying those positions who deserve to be told “Respect your positions.”

They are the ones who should be disciplined, pressured, threatened, shamed to resign or impeached.. if they don’t mend their ways.

Use trust rating to improve lives of Filipinos, Noy urged

MANILA, Philippines – President Aquino should use his high trust and approval ratings to improve the lives of Filipinos instead of stoking the people’s anger to distract them from his own shortcomings, opposition lawmakers said yesterday.

House of Representatives Minority Leader Edcel Lagman said trust and approval ratings are very subjective as evidenced by the latest Pulse Asia survey.

While Aquino maintained his ratings, his poll figures on performance went down, he added.

Zambales Rep. Milagros Magsaysay said Aquino’s trust rating is high, yet he does not want to convert that trust rating into other positive results.

  50. chi chi

Kung taray ang babali sa Gloria’s law-less justices of the Supreme Court, let it be.

If Pnoy’s katarayan could pave the way for a reformed Supreme Court, we would have achieved what we longed for… a Supreme Court “of the people for the people and by the people”.

  51. chi chi

Something good came out of Noy’s katarayan, dahil sa public opinyon ay nakarating kina Arroyo-Pidal at Corona na sila-sila na lang ang natitirang suporta ni Gloria and going against public opinion will be very harmful to Corona’s future.

Mas ayos itong public opinion aired via internet (FB and the likes) newspapers, radio and television than taking the fights to EDSA na naman.

  52. Making promises is a politician’s cup of tea.

The distribution of The Hacienda to its tenants should have been the first official act of this administration to set a perfect tone to where this country should be heading.

In fact it should have happened long ago, right after CARP was made into law. That should have qualified his mother for sainthood.

  53. Our particular brand of land reform looks more like a conspiracy between charlatans disguised as farmer organizers and real estate tycoons/landgrabbers. These charlatans take advantage of the tenants’ emotions, make them pity themselves, sow discontent, justfying forceful distribution of an otherwise productive food producing land into small parcels of subsistence farming failures. The poor farmers find out the hard way the lessons in farm management, they soon find themselves in deeper debt worst than their scariest nightmares, the one day millionaire phenomenon doen’t help either. Eventually some developer comes calling offering cold cash, money these farmers never saw in their lives – and they sell, one day millionaires again, they lose the money, they lost the lands, they’re out in the streets. Meanwhile the lands become subdivisions further reducing food production capacity.
Either way, the farmers get screwed, they just don’t know it yet, but they will, eventually.

  54. The tone this country should be heading is towards productivity and not manipulation, too bad some people are just too callous, they pretend to speak for the poor but never really lifted a finger to help.

On the other side of the picture Enrile’s safe-mode politics always put him unpredictable and non partisan or just self serving.
