Even MILF joins ‘Thrilla in NAIA’

Thrilla in NAIA
Even the Moro Islamic Liberation Front has a statement on the May 6 Thrilla in Naia where columnist/broadcaster Ramon Tulfo and showbiz couple Claudine Barretto and Raymart Santiago figured in a brawl at the international airport.

In its website, side by side with reports on the peacetalks that the Muslim rebel group is pursuing with the government and the death of its vice chairman for Military Affairs, Aleem Abdul Aziz S. Mimbantas, MILF deputy chairman of the MILF Committee on Information Khaled Musa said they are not taking sides on the ugly incident but commented that Tulfo, “has been given the dose of his own medicine.”

“Hurting is not only when one is attacked but the more stinging it is when the offended party is the whole community like the Moros. I wish he will stop insulting people now that he has been given the dose of his own medicine,” Musa said.

He added: “‘Truth is truth and it is not fair to say Ramon Tulfo or the Santiagos are guilty of starting the brawl. Let the facts of the incident come out soon.”

Luwaran described Tulfo as ,” an incorrigible critic of Moros in Mindanao.”

The news item further said that in his column in the Philippine Inquirer, Tulfo treat the Moros in Mindanao as “made of sub-race.”

The MILF website said, “Ramon Tulfo created so many enemies including the former First Gentleman, Mike Arroyo, and Senator Panfilo Lacson, who was tagged by him as ‘murderer’ and ‘adulterer’. Tulfo also did not spare the legendary movie king, Fernando Poe Jr., from his tongue-lashing even if the latter was already comatose.”

Earlier, Rep. Teddy Casiño of the leftist partylist Bayan Muna, put the blame on Cebu Pacific for the airport scuffle that has morphed into other issues life feminism, media ethics , and press freedom.
Casiño said Cebu Pacific’s incompetence of offloading the luggage of the Santiago couple and that of their friends without informing them was the root cause of the ugly incident.

Raymart and Claudine and friends, together with their children, came from Boracay. Due to overbooking, their luggage was put in Cebu Pacific flight from Kalibo. Claudine reportedly berated the Cebu Pacific ground personnel which caught the attention of Tulfo who arrived in another flight.

Tulfo tried to take pictures of the Claudine’s “pagtataray” with his cellphone which Raymart didn’t like. Raymart reportedly tried to get the cellphone of Tulfo and that’s when the scuffle ensued which resulted in the hard-hitting columnist/broadcaster being mauled and ending black and blue.

“In a way that’s the trigger of all this brouhaha – if Claudine and Raymart’s baggage were not left behind without giving them notice, Tulfo wouldn’t have the chance to be a `miron,’ (observer)” said Casiño who himself had experienced the airline’s incompetence.

To lighten the hostile atmosphere, Casiño suggested that Cebu Pacific provide the parties involved in the brawl to a free, round-trip tickets with a two-night stay in Boracay. “So they can mend fences and enjoy each others’ company in a less stressful environment,” he said.

That’s no longer possible because the fight has now dragged in the three other Tulfo brothers –Raffy,Ben,Erwin – who threatend Raymart and Claudine in their TV program “T3:Kapatid, Sagot Kita.”

Sympathy for Mon was greatly diminished with the brothers’ thug mentality in public display in their their radio and TV programs.

Even the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines which defended Mon Tulfo’s right to take pictures of the Claudine berating the Cebu Pacific personnel drew the line on the threats issued by the Tulfo brothers on air.

NUJP Chairman Nestor Burgos Jr. lauded TV5 for suspending the Erwin, Ben and Raffy Tulfo. “No amount of provocation warrants the uncalled for reaction especially from those who call themselves journalists and after Ramon Tulfo had already filed a criminal complaint against the couple. “

Things have taken a twist because TV5’s suspension of the three Tulfo brothers didn’t impress the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board which imposed a 20-day suspension on the program, “T3:Kapatid, Sagot Kita.”

TV5 went to the Court of Appeals crying violation of press freedom.

A feminist angle has also been introduced with writer Katrina Stuart Santiago (not related to Raymart) saying that Claudine’s pagtataray was “refreshing.”

She said: “That we fail to appreciate Claudine kicking ass the way she has? That is our bigger tragedy.”

Now, Commission on Human Rights Chair Etta Rosales has entered the picture supporting the Cebu Pacific personnel,Charice Bocboc , who was berated by Claudine.

Rosales said while Barretto had the right to complain, she was wrong in assaulting the dignity of the airline employee.

I’m surprised why Malacanang has not joined the fray.

Mga sanggano talaga yang mga Tulfo brothers. I hope this incident would prick Mon Tulfo’s ego.

  2. chi chi

    Agree, Becky.

Mon Tulfo in particular has been abusing the concept of free press to the max. Buti nga sa kanya nabugbog!

  3. vic vic

Yes, there is indeed a very vibrant “freedom” of expression and of the Press that it is about time to put some reasonable limits to the rights and freedoms with checks and balance prescribe in law that can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society…one of them check is the libel and slander law as a Tort and making it mandatory for every media practitioner to be covered by sufficient Liability Insurance Just In Case…See, I belong to a “shooting club” and we can not join in without paying the mandatory insurance premium coverage of $3 millions just in Case. It is the same with every professional practitioner and trader…(plumbers, contractors)

Other than that, each profession and practice should also police their own…Like this Tulfo brothers…as even the MILF been complaining of their “racist” attitude towards the Muslims and the Moro and yet nothing is done to even investigate their motives or if they have broken any law or provisions of the Constitution or Human Rights provisions
or the ethical code of conduct for Journalism…and for the Airlines, they also need to review their service protocols as it is known that they are sorely poor…and for the Celebrities and Elites..they need to undergo some Anger Management therapy to control their egos…it maybe good for national recognition, but bad attitudes is not good for the young generation to see and emulate…

The Tulfos like sensationalizing everything they say. For them, it’s just their “hook” to grab readers’ and viewers’ attention. I think they love controversy for the sake of controversy.

    Feminist angle?

Since when is it feminist to berate another woman for an error committed by somebody else miles away? So yung atraso ng taga-Kalibo sisingilin sa taga Maynila? And never mind if the other woman is just some lowly cog in the corporate machine; never mind if she is a victim of the Boss’ machismo, giving her low pay, maybe leering at her and sexually harassing her. It is still kick-ass and feminist for the rich and famous woman to berate this poor destitute woman employee.

It would have been truly feminist if she looked for the Boss (probably a man), and kicked that guy’s ass. It would still be feminist even if the Boss were a woman, to kick the Boss woman’s ass for the benefit of the harried rank and file woman.

I thought that the swagger produced by power, whether muscular, in the old days, or produced by money (a weakling like Bugsy Siegel ordering his thugs to beat up a rival) is what feminists dislike in the macho. So the woman who swaggers with the power of her fame and money is no better than the old-school macho she criticizes. So what is feminist about that?

At gagawin pa tayong tanga niyang Raymart na yan. Asthma medications daw ng bata nasa bag. Gago bakit checked in ang bagaheng may gamot? That should have been in the carry-on luggage. Obvious na palusot.

Katrina Stuart Santiago is not related to Raymart 🙂

  7. Lurker Lurker

Katrina Stuart Santiago is no feminist. 😉

Hardly qualifies as kick ass.

Want some kick ass female to warm your feminist hearts? Here is ten-year-old Natsumi Gomi sending Vladimir Putin’s KGB ass flying in the air.

    Yan ang kick ass.

Uttering Physical threats whether carried or not is a Criminal Offense in this part of town…and I don’t know if it is under the Criminal code of the Philippines…If it is, the cops could just pick up the Tulfo brothers and charge them for uttering Threats and at least if convicted they will have criminal records under their names and can not get passport clearance…that is enough to get turned back at the Borders (how the US finds out, think it has access to the records) until getting pardoned…about 3 years after conviction and after serving the sentence if there is one.

The headline almost sent shivers to my spine. MILF at first glance though to have meant Claudine based on that popular American Pie movie series.

    Claudine = MILF? no thanks.

All parties involved have their own faults. Walang innocente.

Where does this lead to? To the same old Filipino way of handling social issues, idadaan sa limot.

Walang mapaparusa. This case would end up going all the way to the SC to be decided by (assuming he gets away with his own fight this week) Corona and team!

    Yehey.

If I was the authorities, all parties would have been heavily fined or be facing public disturbance charges. Magsuntukan sila sa parking lot but not in a highly sensitive area that is the airport.

BTW i think the best tweet i seen on this issue was: https://twitter.com/#!/AmandoDoronila/status/199494010782498816

  12. chijap chijap

I still question why the Press Club nor the NUJP does not call for punishment, sanctions, disassociation, disgust, or a public apology from the Tulfo brothers in this case.

Mon Tulfo may claim (still a question to me) he was on the clock when he got involved in the incident; which Journalist groups quickly demanded some sort of defense to that Tulfo; pero when the other Tulfo brothers cussed and showed their machismo in TV, nasan ang Journalist groups? Criket, criket.

Then TV5 also went on to define journalism as not to ban a show when its highly rated, even if it reeks of below professionalism; but rather, just suspend it (like i said, idaan sa limot).

This was confirmed by Mon Tulfo when he said T3 was not going to be junked, because ratings eh.

No amount of ratings should superseed professionalism. Lalo na sa mga Journalist who we give more privilege and access than the ordinary Juan.

Authorities should set an example to this. The Tulfo brother show should be fined heavily. I support the MTRCB’s move on this.

  13. chijap chijap

Oh just in case people think Mon is a sample of victim; here’s his confession about his intentions:

    http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/entertainment/05/13/12/tulfo-i-wanted-get-my-gun

He prefer to slug it out like the wild wild west, instead of reporting this matter to airport police and security personnel.

Yan ang “victim.” So no wonder why certain group and people detest this man.

These are the people we talk about in our lives. These are the people our children see and analyze, say so if this guy can pull this off, maybe when its my time, ako din.

These people should be facing charges and fines if you ask me so our children know what the right thing to do.

“…….Oh my, where will this lead to?”

  17. chi chi

  22. Natawa ako dun sa magkakapatid. Si Raffy mura ng mura ng P.I. ka, P.I. ka. Last man standing.” hahaha (ganun nga ba pagkakasabi?)

  24. chijap chijap

    Chi/Tongue – Mon actually lied.

Sabi nya noong una, he was in a hurry dahil nagaantay yung driver nya at gutom na sya. Yun pala he was in a hurry to go pickup his gun, after realizing he’s in a fight na of which he has some form of fault in its making.

I remain steadfast demanding why Journalist groups and the Press Club does not admonish (hehe parang si Cuevas) Mon Tulfo as well.

Apparently the Tulfos are gods in the journalism world. Whatever they say or do, its tolerable.

  25. MPRivera MPRivera

nakalimutan ni mon tulfo ang turo ni o’sensei: aikido is the universal harmony expressed through the human body. it (aikido) was created to promote world peace and not violence contrary to tulfo’s and his brothers’ arrogant actuations and expressions.
