Social media comments more enjoyable than megafight

The winner?
The winner?
From where I confine myself every time there’s Pacquiao fight, I can tell if Manny is losing or winning by the shrieks and groans of those watching in the house and even among my neighbors.

Yesterday, everything was quiet. So I know who between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather won.

Mayweather won by unanimous decision affirming what he always brags about himself as the “undefeated champion.”

Alex Pal, a Dumaguete-based journalist related in Facebook that he was not able to see “The Fight of the Century” but he asked the taxi driver what was the result.

Alex’s reaction: “Wahaha!”

I don’t watch boxing because I don’t enjoy watching two people hit each other but I follow stories about Pacquiao. I admire him for rising from poverty through hard work.

My admiration for Pacquiao does not extend to his political career and I fervently hope he does not get deluded into aspiring to run for president.

Pacquiao’s loss by unanimous decision didn’t dent the fans affection for him as gleaned from comments in social media.

Hollywood actor Jim Carey posted a comment in Twitter: “Big let down in Vegas. Was that a boxing match or dancing with the stars?”

That’s the same reaction of Bibeth Orteza, movie and TV director, scriptwriter and actress. She wondered “Why did the judges allow May Anne Weather to ‘fight’” like that? “

“Singing contest judges don’t score you for dancing more than singing, right,” she asked.

Young business entrepreneur Jaime Garchitorena noted during the fight that Mayweather keeps running “It looks like he trained for a marathon instead of a boxing match,” he remarked.

Mayweather's strategy.
Mayweather’s strategy.
Malaya Business Insight’s Che Francisco, “Akala ko si Pacquiao ang pulitiko. Bakit si Mayweather ang gusto-gustong tumakbo?”

Che suspects Mayweather is thinking of a change in sports: 100 sprint.

Those who watched the fight said aside from running, Mayweather kept on hugging Pacquiao prompting someone to say in Facebook that the American loves Pacquiao more than his girlfriends, many of them accused him of domestic violence.

VERA Files Lala Ordenes reposted comments of her relatives.

On the eve of the megafight. Joel Pablo Salud said if Pacquiao lost, there should be no pinpointing who is to blame: “Hindi si PNoy, hindi si GMA, hindi si ERAP, hindi si FVR, hindi si Cory at hindi si Marcos.”

He said: “Pagnatalo si Pacquiao bukas, ah pucha kasalanan ni Mayweather yan.

Poet Marne Kilates posted a lengthy comment but here’s my favorite part: “Pacquiao lost. That’s it. Ang talo, talo. …So what’s the point? The point is it’s not the end of the world. The point is it might make Pacquiao think twice about running for president. The point is it might make us think twice about voting for him. The point it is might make us think. Period. Have you ever thought how long we haven’t been doing that?”

Pacquiao is a power puncher and Mayweather was just too smart not to get trapped with Manny “akward” style of boxing and won the bout his way…Boxing is scored either you kill your opponent, knocked him down out of count and or outscore him by number of hits…Mayweather choose the later..and went undefeated for 48-0 against one of the Greatest Fighters of all Time in Manny Pacquiao…

And Manny P. could be the Greatest President that will never be.. This time against the Biases and Prejudice of his own countrymen…

  7. Up until the end of March, the odds were dead even. Early bets were pouring in for Manny. But in mid-April, Floyd was heavily-favored to win by decision, ruling out a knockout by either fighter. The odds: Mayweather 8/15, Pacquiao 7/4, Draw 20/1.

The bookies even ruled out a rematch whatever the result of the 1st fight was. Odds: Rematch 2/1, No Rematch 1/3.

The sudden shift in bookies’ predictions coincide with Pacquiao’s claim of torn shoulder muscles which he said was made known to the Nevada Athletic Commission “2 and a half weeks before the fight” who should’ve moved for a postponement of the title fight, while keeping it confidential at the same time.

But this is Las Vegas, Mayweather country, where the courts cut short a possible 34-month sentence on assault conviction to a mere 60 days because they can’t afford to cancel a scheduled Mayweather fight which would earn the county tens of millions of dollars.

Team Pacman suspect Alex Ariza, former Pacquiao conditioning coach now employed by Mayweather, might have gotten the info from any of Manny’s crew, sparmates, and former buddies with a little persuasion helped by Floyd’s money. Reasons: Mayweather gives “special” credit to Ariza for his win. He may be saying this just to spite Pacman. But another proof is, Ariza continues to hint in interviews that Pacquiao needs to clean his camp.

If there’s anyone who should be removed from Manny’s official entourage it should be that corrupt politician who can do no good to Manny’s career – whether it be boxing or politics not to mention religion. Who knows, this epal governor might even have bet on Mayweather knowing fully well Manny is not in perfect condition. For all we know he may even have convinced Manny to bet on Mayweather, too!

I didn’t expect that kind of fight plan from Manny’s camp knowing that they had this thought out since five, six years ago. Even non-boxing fans know that all Mayweather does is hit, run and hug. If they can’t prepare a main plan where variables are limited, how can they create a plan B, C or D?

I don’t think Mayweather deserves to win. But Pacquiao doesn’t either.

Vic at 5, maybe Manny’s countrymen and women are prejudiced and biased against him because they know him very well. Manny was against women getting the contraceptives and voted against RH bill. If Manny had his ways, god will be the one deciding if women should have more children even though women can barely afford to feed their children, sickly from continuous child bearing and have no jobs. Leave all to god.

Then, Manny refused to pay income tax that most of his countrymen and women dutifully pay year in and year out, even asked for tax exemptions as special privilege dahil pambansang kamao raw, e. It was only lately that tax commissioner, Kim Henares, stood her ground, and Manny was forced to cough up and pay tax, becoming the highest payer. Or be jailed for tax evasion.

I like Manny too, but not blind to his whims.

Now, about the shoulder injury of Manny’s that Nevada Athletic Commission refused to be injected with pain killers, I dont think the commission was being particularly nasty to Manny. If anyone knew their pain killers, those given intramuscularly (injection) like morphine, fentanyl, pethidine, etc, would know that these are controlled drugs and come with side effects. People given injectable pain killers are not supposed to partake in activities that require fine motor coordination and concentration like driving for instance.

Injectable pain killers can take 10-30 minuntes to take effect. They dont only suppressed pain but can also make you drowsy, you’ll be sluggish and your reaction will be slower. They can also be very addictive. Some are capped and once you reach the ceiling, you’ll become resistant to the drug, but your pain will continue. And you’ll be moved on to another drug.

So, had Manny been given the pain killer sought, he would not have been able to train, or box, give interviews and face the media, his speech and coordination would have been affected too, and he’d be sluggish.

Roc # 9 how many Presidents changed their stand when they get into the position? Many who did promise heaven and all that were men desires ended doing exactly the Opposite…I’ll take my chance with manny p.

  11. lynyrdskynyrd lynyrdskynyrd

Manny just said ” I did my best, but my best wasn’t good enough”. His biggest fight ever with a 60% body condition made him paid the price.

  12. Kapag talo maraming dahilan. Nakakatawa talaga.

  15. Sa daming embedded reporters in Manny Pacquiao’s camp, nobody reported the injury before the fight. Co-conspirators?

  16. chi chi

#15, Arvin even though I’m still a student during that time pero natatadaan ko na feel na feel ko na may perang umi-ikot sa Bansa. At marami ang middle class family. Madali maghanapbuhay, at magnegosyo.

  18. lynyrdskynyrd lynyrdskynyrd

#15 & #18 I got your point pero MayPac po ang topic hindi si Marcos o Cory.

  19. Tilamsik Tilamsik

Kasalanan ni Arvin co-conspirator sya….. sunugin.!!!!

  23. roc roc

Ellen at 16, I’m presuming the reporters milling in Manny’s camp were not from Vera files. 2ndly, the reporters probably did not know Manny would not declare previous shoulder injury in the pre-med fight form, and were not there looking over Manny’s shoulder when the form was signed. Or they would have raised eyebrows, sniffing an exclusive.

I did recall reading somewhere about a reported leg injury of Manny’s, and that the leg got better and there was nothing to worry about.

  24. Ayoko nang tumaba ang puso ko. Magastos.

This was happening several days in a row, even with media out of the gym, people can sense something’s very wrong with paying a few boxers several thousands without even breaking a sweat.

Ewan ko but it was easy to see early in the fight that Pacquiao wasn’t prepared to win. Everybody knew FMJ’s fighting style yet Pacquiao disgustingly didn’t have a plan after the 5 years wait. So it looked like.

    Something just ain’t right.

  25. Snv, what the possibility of those suits vs Pacman ang Mayweather prospering? Some say, Pacquaio has to rush home after surgery as he might be prevented from leaving the U.S. later?

What would be the possible fallouts?

  26. saxnviolins saxnviolins

    # 26

I myself only scored two rounds for Pacquiao; arguably, four. He seemed tentative. Parang takot, which is difficult to understand, because Mayweather is not known to pack a haymaker, like Pacquiao, or Canelo Alvarez. Mukhang yan ang lingering effect of Marquez’s lucky punch.

    # 28

With respect to the lawsuits, they are merely civil (pera-pera lang). So the worst is that Pacquiao will be made to pay. He will not be detained at all, nor will he be prevented from travelling.

Why the rush, if ever, to leave the country? Because summons has to be served personally. It cannot be mailed. So if Pacquiao leaves, they will have to serve it in the Philippines. That is a temporary respite, however, because service can be made by any adult.

That is, if that rumor is true, that they are trying to evade summons. I doubt that. May heavyhitter nang defense lawyer – si Petrocelli; the guy who got the civil damages award for the Goldman family. Goldman was the friend/lover of OJ Simpson’s wife.

  27. saxnviolins saxnviolins

Sorry. The author above thinks Pacquiao won.
