Davide – super oportunista

Davide administers oath of office to power grabber
Davide administers oath of office to power grabber

Siyempre, masarap yata sa New York, tumatanggap ng $20,000 a month, libre lahat.

Ngayon sasabihin niya “the people cannot forget and tolerate graft and corruption” ng administrasyong Arroyo?

Ang laking ipokrito!

I heartily agree with you. Too bad that still many Filipinos think he is a decent guy. What would it take for us to recognize opportunists and remove them from our midst?

He should just have slipped quietly into anonymity. But I guess he still saw an opening (his son’s candidacy) to perpetuate his ilk. Sometimes I think we are indeed a CURSED people.

Common decency, like common sense is not so common here. We never learn. Wattalife!

Re: “the people cannot forget and tolerate graft and corruption” ng administrasyong Arroyo?

Hilario Davide is a typical super balimbing. Why he tolerated to receive $20,000.00 allowance per month as CA unconfirmed U.N. ambassador? He is a part of corrupt Arroyo regime.

  3. Hi Ellen!

Am just taking a breather (just got back home to drop luggage – but will be driving long distance again tomorrow for a few days) so thought I should find out what’s going on at Ellenville and by gum, I am gobsmacked.

Putanginang Davide yan!

Davide, you are the scum of the earth, a shithead of the lowest variety — you not only violated, committed the highest crime of treason, sold your country to the highest bidder, you also are taking every Filipino for idiots.

Who the shit do you think you are? You should be hanged, drawn and quartered — you and your entire corrupt retinue in the Supreme Court, you shithead!

How dare you insult us the Filipino people! How dare you show your face to the Filipino people! Hilario Davide, I spit on your face you double-dealing, two-timing, treacherous, treasonous, ex-Chief Injustice of the Supreme Court.

You and your son and your daughter who have pilfered and perhaps, still pilfering the SC coffers, ought to be tarred and feathered, then hanged, drawn and quartered!

  4. I hope Hilario Davide never comes around here — if he does, I’ll do my best to get invited to wherever he is invited and will make a point of highlighting this criminal’s hypocricy by spitting at his face for everyone to see!

Davide, you are the biggest criminal there is when you violated the Constitution and when you treacherously, treasonously swore in that fucking midget — you, who should have fought tooth and nail for the Rule of Law to prevail were the first to violate it.

May you and your family die a rotten death!

    Ellen,

Did Aguino and Roxas accept the shithead into the LP fold?

Kasi ia-appoint muli sya ni Noynoy as permanent rep to the UN.
    Tuloy ang ligaya ni Davide!

  7. olan olan

Wow Anna! I truly agree with you 100%! Noynoy and LP needs to reconsider having Davide in their fold. This is the one person they should drop.

  8. Of course Noynoy Aquino welcomed Davide with open arms. Why would he reject him?

Here’s Noynoy’s views on Gloria Arroyo’s men jumping her sinking ship:

In Cebu Tuesday, Aquino said the LP was expecting an “avalanche” of politicians to join the party.

He hinted that another prominent administration official—believed to be Salceda—was joining the LP after Deputy House Speaker Neptali Gonzales II who bolted the ruling Lakas-Kampi-CMD which has been rocked by defections.

“I cannot preempt them but I can guarantee that their numbers will increase … Next week you will be surprised because one of the stalwarts of the present administration will join our campaign,” said Aquino in a press conference.

“We are also wrapping up some negotiations with other parties.

“As Election Day nears, I think those who will join us will become an avalanche,” he added.

  9. Here’s Inquirer’s report on Davide’s defection to LP:

CEBU CITY—The man who went to EDSA nine years ago to administer the oath of office to then Vice President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, thus making her president on the spot, is now turning his back on her.

Saying the public “can never forget” the corruption in the present administration, former Supreme Court Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr. Tuesday endorsed presidential candidate Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III so the country would have a shot “at real change.”

Davide, who was wearing a Liberal Party campaign shirt, said he was actively campaigning for Aquino and his running-mate, Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, because “this is the best time for our country really to have real change.”

“That change can only be accomplished through the leadership of Noynoy and Mar … That is exactly the reason why I had to tender my resignation as the Philippines’ ambassador and permanent representative to the UN effective April 1,” Davide said.

He said his term would have ended on June 30. “But I just had to come [home] to be able to enlighten our people on the need to choose the best. So, here I am, campaigning hard, knowing that a victory will be sure for Noynoy and Mar and the entire LP,” he added.

  11. Thanks, Ellen.

    Chi, excellent point!!!!

    I simply am gobsmacked.

I would like Aquino and/or Roxas to tell us why they accepted Constitutional violater, treacherous and treasonous Davide with open arms yet said “No way, José!” to the Magdalo Group which, as you rightly say, fought corrupt queen Gloria tooth and nail!

Unless Aquino-Roxas or members of their political wham bang thank you Ma’am political gang can explain convincingly their reason for turning their back and rejecting the young officers’ group (yes, they rejected Trillanes and company), I’m won’t to believe that their values are fucking upside down.

They are opening their fucking arms to every frigging shithead, value-less, morally corrupt Malacanang crony jumping from Gloria’s wretched ship, so tell me what goddamn change are they espousing today? Change of frigging boat? What kind of goddamn change is that and what kind of goddamn change are Aquino and Roxas espousing (spewing is more like it)?

Oh yeah, while I’m at it, here’s a left hand middle finger salute to Davide and his new friends! iy&_ç-(_)à&ççè_mk;m!alà(ço(jkntwxiuy!

but I will still vote for Noynoy and Mar, to include most in their LP Senatorial line-up. Villaroyo land grab issues far outweigh many issues hounding the LP campaign.

  13. For the moment, I’ve got only one LP senatoriable in my short list.

  14. Hang on, is Alex Lacson with LP? If so, that makes two of them from LP in my list. (My list is so goddamn short — that’s because there are so few good men/women up for national election today.)

  15. Biggest defect, problem, shortcoming, etc., etc. of all our professional politicos today — and I mean 99% of them — is that they are MORAL COWARDS!

The junior officers who didn’t quite make it to the gates of Malacanang many years ago (and who could have rid us of these of all those professional political con artists cum shitheads) from whose ranks, some are fighting for their rightful seats in govt are the only ones who possess this very rare commodity: MORAL COURAGE!

Some FUCKS (este, facts, pala) about HILARIO DAVIDE in Wikipedia:

“Hilario Davide is the recipient of many awards. In 2002, he was conferred the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Government Service—a singular honor that is the Asian equivalent of the Nobel Prize. He was recognized for his life of principled citizenship and his profound service to democracy and the rule of law in the Philippines (REALLY ?).

He also sought legislative investigations of graft and corruption in government and reported violations of human rights and was conferred 13 honorary degrees in doctoral in law and humanities”.

Fucking shit, I almost puked reading these lies, I mean, accolades. These certainly doesn’t do the man justice.

This is one more proof that whatever/whoever Gloria touches turns into crap. Gibo should take a hint.

“…tell us why they accepted Constitutional violater” = AnnaDeBrux

Because they (Noynoy et. al) were all part of the power grab, almost everyone in Noynoy’s camp were part of EDSA 2. They too were constitutional violators. Remember??? 😛

Davide means dividing the nation into worse ( I think he is not plus in the LP. Maybe,he has no choice, a lesser evil decision ).

Hilario Davide, Joey Salceda, Neptali Gonzales Jr, etc… all PaLaKa stalwarts privy to real condition of their party jumping ships to join Noynoy’s campaign, this is the undeniable proof that PaLaKa is now a broken and fallen party, PaLaKa partymates concede that Noynoy and Mar will surely win the election ….. next party to suffer desertion will be NP ….. LP gets stronger while PaLaKa disintegrate and NP gets weaker everyday as election gets nearer…

which is why i read your blog, ellen, just because I get to know some un-press releases here. having had a short career in writing press releases, i know that there are career “monsters” paying big-time just to stay mabango in the eyes of the reading public. of course, word of mouth, comes handy too. But Davide (I do recall he has been abetting the arroyos eversince) should be un-masked!

  28. malay natin ito na ang kanilang tunay na pagsisi at pagbabago..give them a break..and a chance to really change and work for a better political system..a better life for the many Filipinos… — rose

In that case, and following that premise, Erap should be elected and given a chance to serve the remainder of his unfinished term.

  29. In my view, Davide should be sent to jail to serve as a reminder to all learned men of the law, particularly at the level of the Supreme Court, who propose and to break the Rule of Law and insist on violating the Constitution that they cannot go about life, continue insulting the intelligence of the people, as if nothing happened.

For Davide to warrant forgiveness for hijacking the Constitution, he must first show true remorse in prison!

  30. Hijacking is a crime. Hijacking the Constitution by one who was supposed to be chief magistrate of the law should be punishable by death.

Unless the country’s citizens start to demand retribution of these legal warlords and Constitutional hijackers, there will be no change in Pinas — and as we all know, no change means no progress.

If that is the case, then consider the following candidates in my list for Senatorial position for everyone comment. I consider them non-trapo and moderate with progressive leanings (with exception), pwede rin sabihan na represented ang ibat-ibang sektor at experience.

    LP Sonia Roco
    LP Gen Danilo Lim
    LP Neric Acosta
    LP Martin Bautista
    LP Alex lacson
    LP Yasmin Busrao-Lim
    LP TG Guingona III
    NP Bong Bong Marcos
    NP Satur Ocampo
    NP Susan Ople
    PMP Juan Ponce Enrile

Any comment about my list? Its important that I know.

Sana next election separate na ang election for President and VP, and Senate/Congress para naman mabigyan pansin ang mga kandidato sa senado/kongresso upang masala ang kanilang paninindigan at pagkatao.

When it comes to P/VP, my choice is Noynoy and Mar sunod si Erap and Binay. If villaroyo and loren sinta will get really close to be on top, I have no option but to vote for better alternative who can beat them. kaya importante rin sa akin ang opinyon ng susunod na survey, kung meron pa.

Some may consider it a “wise” move, but that doesn’t make those three idiots and opportunist better persons. In fact, by accepting these 3 rats, the LP has is becoming more like the NP. Imbes na sila Davide ang mahawaan ng “GOOD” dahil sumali sila sa panig nila Noynoy na “GOOD” daw ay nadungisan ang kanilang hanay dahil sa tatlong bugok.

WOW!

REalidad sa politika na malaking bagay na may suporta sa local government unit sa pag deliver ng boto. it is not surprising that davide went to a suppose to be winning horse, judging from his track record. aquino or the lp on the other hand, to many should not have accepted him since they were adamant to accept the magdalos if not actually rejecting. the only logical explanation is that now it seems that aquino and co is not so sure of winning as at the start. but politics is not always addition, in this case they may lose more supporters than gain.

Relax mga kaibigan. . .parang bago kayo sa politika sa Pinas. . .Ganun talaga yan. . . habng papalapitg ang eleksyon, politicians will always gravitate to the parties perceived to have the edge come crunch time. . .that’s survival instinct, otherwise maiiwan ka sa pansitan. . But of course! . . .hehehehhehe

  56. Lurker Lurker

Tingin ko yan talaga ang “nature of the beast that is politics.”

  58. chi chi

    #54 perl,

If you have a konek to Noy2, tanungin ninyo siya ng deretso o kahit si kuya Mar, saksi sya. If you read Ellen’s responses to that specific questions in previous loops, yun na.

Like Anna, I’d like the top LP bets to explain this issue themselves, or kahit na si Frank Drilon o Butch Abad, para hindi peke ang report. 🙂

  59. Lolay Lolay

The only candidate I can connect “change” with is the Noynoy-Mar tandem. In my opinion, Noynoy rejected the Magdalo group because the Magdalo group is already against Arroyo and therefore will have no effect on Arroyo. Unlike Davide and the others who defected or will defect to Aquino for they can be excellent witnesses against Arroyo’s corruptions.

  60. martina martina

  62. jawo jawo

After dividing the spoils and bleeding the national coffers bone dry, the predators are now on the hunt for greener pastures. Kaibigang Lurker says, “yan talaga ang “nature of the beast that is politics”. I would rather say, “that is the nature of THE beasts in politics”.

In the Philippines, politics is a matter of (personal monetary) convenience. Meaning, there are no permanent enemies nor friends in politics for as long their goals (of stealing) are achieved. It is not public service that they seek. Are you kidding ? They are now moving their asses to be yet in a more strategic position to be nearer Fort Knox. Maniwala kayo na they share the same visions as the man they want to support. ULOL !!! Because our politicians suffer from a debilitating disease called, “NO CREDIBILITY”, the only vision I can think of that they envision they share with the candidate they want to support is their long-term vision to steal yet again and then live and let live.

Do not believe for a moment that these fucking headhunters are running for positions to serve and be called public servants. No sir !!! Once elected, guess who will be the servants ?

Olan: bakit kasama si Enrile?…ok siya dati pero ngayon hindi ba Yuchengco age na siya?..o kaya gaya ni siraulo na naging Sec. of Justice?at this stage of his life hindi ba ba siya ulianin? don’t we need new blood..younger generation sa senate? si Susan Ople ba ay anak ni Blas Ople? re: Bongbong: ok siya..I hope he has his father’s brain and not his mother’s kaartihan…pero I am almost sure Ilocos and Leyte will support his candidacy..

  64. rose rose

Celia: taga Capiz ka ba? kasi iba ang narinig ko tungkol sa kanilang ginagawa na pagtulong sa Roxas City..marami dito sa East Coast ay taga Capiz..as a matter of fact mayroon silang Capizeno Club..and many of them have good words about the Roxas family..low profile lang daw sila sa pagtulong sa kasimanwa nila..I am just wondering kung taga Capiz ka and being one you know more inside stories…of course depending on what side of the fence you are..pero ang totoo ay totoo…hindi ba?

  65. Mike Mike

Someone mentioned above that Erap might withdraw to support another candidate. Problem is, if Erap really withdraws, the beneficiary would be Villaroyo and not the one he’s gonna endorse. Remember that Erap and Villar has the same support group which is the masa or class d an e. The masa who’s for Erap now might or should I say, will probably shift their support to Villar.

  66. Mike Mike

And if Erap does withdraw, he won’t support Villar and might go for Gibo or Noynoy. But I doubt if he will withdraw from the race.

  67. Mike Mike

    ‘Obama doesn’t like Arroyo’

Thompson said US President Obama does not like President Arroyo.

“I think he (Obama) doesn’t like her (Arroyo),” he candidly told The Rundown. “(His dislike is) not personal. I think he knows what she’s been up to.”

  68. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

  71. chi chi

    Kenny’s failure
The Obama administration has been taken by surprise by the failure-of-elections scenarios because the former US Ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenney painted an overly optimistic picture of the country under President Arroyo, said Thompson. (from abs/cbn link #68)

Kenny was/is Gloria’s bff, there’s no surprise why she’d hide the true state of Pinas from any foreign leader, particularly from her own USA.

After more than a year, Obama now listens?

  77. chi chi

In the other camp, it looks like they accept everyone. In our party, before we talk to those who want to join us, we analyze whether this person can help us or not, whether this person will be good for the party or not],” he said. -Noynoy http://www.inquirer.net

    ___

    This is bull!

Excuse me!

Less than a month before the election, the truth and reality is – It is either Villarroyo or Aquino and that Villarroyo will do everything in their power, and at all cost, just to win. Me magagawa ba tayo kung nagkadayaan na. Wala, wala at wala.

Ang tunay na laban ay sa dayaan!

  84. henry90 henry90

Ang idol mo ang may pinaka malaking kasalanan!

I really wish you can read the facebook of Roxas Capiz, yes that’s his name and someone called Capiz Citizen posted a very long story about the underhand activities of judy and mar roxas in capiz. I think this guy is their allies why he knows everything and he just want to tell the truth.

Celia, thanks for the info…abi ko anay mahamot ang ngaran sang mga Roxas sa Capiz..kag isa sila sang mga bugal sang mga Capizenos..hindi ako taga Capiz but I am proud to be from Panay kung may magdaug na taga Panay..maliit pa ako I saw and met his grandfather, Pres. Manuel Acuna Roxas..he was a good friend of my grandmother’s brother, who became his Press Secretary…Mas kahawig ni Mar Roxas ang lolo niya kaysa kay Gerry na tatay niya…between Loren, Loren Sinta (who is from Antique, and I am from Antique) I would vote for Manuel Araneta Roxas, who I think will do more good for the entire country and not just Panay..but this is a personal opinion..kung hindi man tumutulong si Judy Araneta sa Capiz, I can understand, hindi naman siya tagaroon..pero ngayon puedeng maging next Vice President ang anak niya, and there will be six years for her to do good not only for Capiz but for the entire country…Come to think of it Loren has not done anything worth mentioning for Antique either..kung mayroon man siyang ginawa..perhaps Ellen can answer that…after all she did a news coverage for Loren when she visited Antique…I am pretty positive that something good will happen in the Phil. pagbugtaw ko sa May 11.. but then I am a cockeyed optimist…”a dream is a wish my heart makes” ang sabi nga sa kanta…

  88. luzviminda luzviminda

  90. luzviminda luzviminda

Pero may usapang nangyayari between Gibo and Erap.

At gusto mo pang umulit? C’mon!

They can deny all they want, pero bistado na mga yan.

Lagi kasing lasing at puyat e. Doon pa natutulog yun sa BRP ANG PANGULO pag may babanatang starlet. Pareng Henry,

Kaya lang, he (Erap) made it sooo easy for that to happen. Remember Laarni and the Boracay mansion, midnight cabinet, pagtungga na mamahaling Petreus, atbp.

That said, does Erap still deserve a 2nd chance?

I think it really boils down to a question of character. We must elect our leaders on the basis of character. Of course all of them have skeletons in their closet.

  116. Tedanz Tedanz

It’s no surprise that Davide now joins the camp of Aquino. As an ultimate opportunist he sees when opportunity comes knocking at the door and that will never ever be missed by an expert in the business of opportunism like him.

Gloria, his erstwhile benefactor’s ship is sinking and so he turns his sight to Noynoy, and the later was only too happy and gladly singing hallelujah with both arms wide open to embrace him and the others.

I guess Noynoy is in a “meltdown” and he doesn’t understand what he is preaching about the good and evil thing. He ‘s just using it to mask his weakness and incompetence.

  119. Jake Las Pinas Jake Las Pinas

  120. florry florry

Kung walang conspirators, power grabbers, law and constitution violators, walang EDSA 2.

In a democratic form of government, transfer of power is done through elections. The mandate emanates from the people and nobody else, not through a power-grab not from a cardinal, not from an ex-president, not from the military nor from a group who called themselves civil society that as if they are the only civilized people and everybody else are uncivilized in this part of the world. But as we all know that’s what happened. They violated the sacred law of the land and thwarted the will of the majority. They then crowned their favourite notwithstanding the lack of mandate from the people and from whom they expected too much. It turned out that what they forced on the people is a monster.

Fast forward to the present, candidates Villar and Noynoy are pointing their fingers and accusing each other as the secret candidate of Gloria. Supporters of these two may not admit, but the reality is both of them are Gloria’s boys. They were Gloria’s boys before and so are now. Gloria is not that stupid to not cover all the bases. Just look how her palaka members jump and divide themselves into both camps. They are just setting the table.

Shame on these two; they are trying hard to pull the wool over the eyes of the electorate by presenting themselves as the true opposition. Between them you can not see any difference; they are both user and opportunists and they both have the face of Gloria imprinted on their faces.

The only true opposition is Erap, the victim of elite conspiracy and who deserves to complete his elected term as president.

  121. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

More than any other, Davide deserves condemnation for his jumping ship.. for the following reasons:

    1. He once held the highest Justice position in the land, yet joined and tolerated the corruption of Gloria and her ilk with nary a peep.
    2. He allowed himself to be appointed to the UN by Gloria without the approval of the Commission on Appointments.. an in-your-face spit on the Commission.
    2. He joined Noynoy’s bandwagon only a few weeks before elections when the trend was clear that Noynoy was clearly in the lead.

Too late to make amends, Mr. Davide. The whole nation sees you now as an opportunist of the most vulgar kind.

  122. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

So now Adel Tamano wants an end to the NP, LP mudslinging..which they started. Ahaa..after they were caught with their hands in the cookie jar with that fake psychiatric report on Noynoy.

It seems they’ve realized their various personal attacks just aren’t working. So now Tamano says they will just focus on their platform.

    Believe it?

    ———————————

You’ve got to be kidding, where are you from, Uranus? Erap is a convicted criminal, there are other cases ie BW, etc. that weren’t even mentioned and he can’t say he was framed as it was a high profile case, he had the best lawyers money can buy…and he asked for pardon, which is requires an admission of guilt. Even if he says he just accepted pardon, which is unlikely true, logically, there must be an admission of guilt and show of remorse before you are given one…

All these conspiracy theories about the elite kicking out Erap are only half-truths. Did you ever hear him admit to any shenanigans or wrongdoing while he was in office? Mahjong at inuman with matching starlets as pulutan courtesy of Annabelle Rama. I guess he could never comprehend the enormity of his responsibilities. He thought he was still acting before the cameras. He brought his disgraceful downfall upon himself that no self-respecting military officer, save those tasked to protect him, chose to remain in the chain of command. Conspiracy? Maybe. Is he blameless? Hmmmmmm. . . .

GREEDINESS is what this Noynoy Cojuangco’s family has. The order is for them to distribute the land to the farmers since 1967. Si Ninoy Aquino ang unang administrator nito. Ang tagal na nilang pinakinabangan yung lupa with the help of the Central Bank during that time. The farmers can put up their own Cooperative to run the operations of the land. They can hire Agricultural experts as consultants kapag na-establish na yung Kooperatiba nila. Hindi naman kailangan kanya-kanyang pagsasaka. They can do it collectively. They have the capabilities in the first place.

Somewhere in this blog in the past showed that stats.

  139. henry90 henry90

I am not from any other planet, anyway that’s your favorite line everytime you disagree with anybody and that makes me suspicious that maybe you are the one who is from outer space.

Erap’s coviction is political. That’s a fact. The only people who disagrees are those Erap-bashers-haters dahil hindi nila kayang tanggapin na ang isang drop=out ang mamumuno sa kanila. A very elitist attitude.

Gloria is the most hated president in this planet. She made a mockery of justice and almost all the courts and justices were under her thumb. Yong mga hearing ay moro-moro na lang to make it appear credible and to make it formal. Maybe you are not on earth when Chavit was asked to demonstrate his accusation that he carried a 130 million pesos in a suitcase for Erap and it was proven that he will need several boxes and that he alone can not carry that amount.

Erap was even asked to leave the country but he chose to stay to fight for justice even as he knew that he will not get a fair trial under the Evil Gloria. That’s a kind of man, willing to face against all odds to prove who he is, not like Noynoy who always sweep all accusations against him under the rug, or just deny it and say it’s fake.

Erap has all the experience in administration. Noynoy has nothing. In his twelve years in Congress and Senate, kahit isang bill walang naipasa.

So is that the kind of president you envision to lead this country?

  143. florry florry

Noynoy said that scoundrels are jumping and being accepted at Villar’s camp.

    It’s Davide, stupid!

  145. luzviminda luzviminda

“Ang tanong, how much was the conversion rate of the peso vis-a-vis the dollar when Erap left office?”

Bumabagsak naman talaga ang halaga ng US$ vis a vis other foreign currency.

  147. Mike Mike

    “YOU NEED CASH?”

  148. Mike Mike

    Ngek, naputol… 😛

  149. Mike Mike

Another reason why the peso is stronger nowadays is because of the remittances from our kababayans working overseas. Our export products are not doing very well kaya walang masyadong epekto.

  150. luzviminda luzviminda

    Henry90,
    Are you a professional soldier?

  151. Mike Mike

Human exports! Dollar remittance is a big factor sa xxchange rate.

I dunno if u still remember that Vic-Vic Villavicencio(Triple-V Express, Oil, etc) had the Ang Pangulo refurbished at no cost kuno to the government? You see, Erap, who like Villar, was never a ‘mahirap’, had impeccable taste for the good life, wine, women and good food.

Kahit saan lumipat si Davide ngayon, that does not matter. The issue is his opportunism, jumping a sinking ship and his hypocrisy. Talking about Gloria Arroyo’s corruption when he enjoyed and benefitted from serving and defending her the fullest until three weeks ago.

The harm that Davide did to the Filipino people, legitimizing Arroyo’s power grab is unforgivable.

  172. We are better off without Erap, he was an embarassment to us all – a big joke. Even in forums he embarrasses himself, its a shame he doesn’t know it, what an idiot.
…and there are worst opportunists than Davide…have we forgotten Villar all of a sudden?

  173. If we get a president who’s worst deed is smoking 2 packs a day, I don’t mind – its good for my business…and employs a lot of people, pays a lot of taxes – how about you LVM, how much have you contributed to the country measurably? Bullshit doesn’t count, we need cash.

  174. perl perl

  175. There are so many people who’s only contribution to the welfare of this country is talk, talk, talk, do something real for a change people! Put your money where your mouth is!
You take a stand, whether its good or bad, its a matter of perspective, Davide made his. Some of us will disagree with him, nevertheless, compared to the perenial fence sitters and unconscious opportunists (neutral now, take a stand with the winner later) or pretending to be unconscious (not admitting to any stand overtly now) – he is a much bigger man. If he got rewarded for it, he’s one of the lucky ones, unlike Jun Lozada, too bad for him, he’s saddled with so many cases while Jocjoc Bolante gets to run for office.
Then we have these military adventurists, who after professing integrity, etc, etc, are in bed with someone who has no respect for the law and makes taking undue advantage an art form – maybe after seeing Trillanes getting all those millions, they want to taste the good life too?
There are no heroes in this game, there are only people who dare to push their agendas to the fore, unlike us, who just watch and blab…

  176. sax,
No need to assume, how can you pardon someone who is innocent? Pardon is given to the guilty (but there are prequisites like show of remorse, etc, etc).
…of course, there’s Love means never having to say you’re sorry…
Then again, there are so many convicted leaders who turned out to be paragons of leadership and vision, Mandela, etc, etc…but who would honestly say that Erap belongs to his class? si LVM lang siguro…

  177. saxnviolins saxnviolins

So henry90, you were with the PSG then. Or even mow them down like Deng Xiao Ping’s soldiers did in Tiananmen Square?

Na-transfer ka ba earlier? Where were you during EDSA 2? With Angie Reyes? Or with Rene Saguisag?

  178. …but enough about Erap, its not about him now. Even if he’s everything we say he is, we at least owe him this opportunity to get some closure. Its not even about Arroyo anymore as she is on her way out, its about Villar, although he’s almost sure to win (I don’t believe in surveys too much) because of his seemingly overwhelming war chest and ability to buy all kinds of political assets…left, right, center, convoluted, etc.

    Henry,

    Must disagree with you completely.

It was Angie with whom the Arroyos had been talking for almost a year prior to the coup d’état.

The major service commanders did not, I repeat, did not initiate the talks.

For your information, Benjie Defensor and Wong were the last to know. Benjie, up to the last minute in the morning of 20 January was having a heated argument with Angie Reyes.

    (1) At the beginning Benjie didn’t want to stage the coup d’état but when it was evident that Angie was determined and that the Army was in on it already, he challenged Angie and said, “Then I propose that we call for immediate election!” (i.e., to know who will replace Erap.)

    (2) Wong then decided the die was cast and so agreed to the coup d’état.

It is wrong to think or to believe that “Ayaw ni Angie sumama dahil kumpare nga sya ni Erap!” or that “Siya na lang naiwan.”

Absolutely not the case. You may believe me or not but I can guarantee you that this is NOT a second hand info.

  213. (If you don’t believe me, then read the personal interview given by Mike Arroyo to the Graphic. This appreared in the Graphic — Ellen has it in her archieves but can’t retrieve the linked version.)

NEWS FLASH: MILITARY COUP TOPPLES PHILIPPINE PRESIDENT

Mike Arroyo, in his own words.

THIS is a season of remembering those exhilarating days in January last year when Joseph Estrada, accused of betraying the trust of the Filipino people who elected him president, was ousted three years and five months short of his term.

Believing in giving credit to where credit is due, we are reprinting here again excerpts of the interview with Mike Arroyo by the eminent Nick Joaquin on his role in the ouster of Estrada, which paved the way for his wife’s takeover of the presidency. The interview appeared in the March 5, 2001 issue of Philippine Graphic.

“She had really left the Cabinet at the right moment: the timing was perfect. If she had tarried a moment longer, she would have been too late for EDSA: she would have made it there as an opportunist. And as for the ill-feeling in Metro Manila, we tackled that by going back to the door-to-door campaign: she went from barangay to barangay explaining her motives, outlining her program. And it worked. Then came the impeachment trial, and from there, tuloy-tuloy na.
“There was a time honestly, when I felt I erred in advising her to resign from the Cabinet. The masa in Manila apparently wanted her to stick it out with Erap. And when she started attacking him, everything fell on us – grabe!- everything! But I told myself: it’s now or never; if we lose here we’re totally destroyed and it’s goodbye to her political career – but if we win here, she becomes President! So we really fought.

“We got all those Erap tapes from Ramon Jacinto and distributed them all over. We bought one million and a half million copies of Pinoy Times to give away so the public could read about the Erap mansions and bank accounts.

“And when EDSA happened, we texted everybody to go running there. EDSA, EDSA: everybody converge on EDSA! Panalo kung panalo. Patay kung patay! Jinggoy had already announced what they would do to us if they won.

“Chavit Singson had Plan B involving elements of the military to strike the first blow. They would kindle the spark by withdrawing from the government, and one by one others would follow: Class ’71 would also withdraw, then Class ’72, and so forth. But General de Villa warned that the timing had to be precise because one untimely move against the government and the military would automatically defend it. The move must be made at what De Villa called a ‘defining moment.’

“You see, General De Villa had his Plan A, which was better than ours, because his was focused on the Chief of Staff and the Service Commanders. At past one o’clock p.m. January 20, Chief of Staff Angelo Reyes defected but we knew that already the night before, when negotiations had lasted until the small hours. By past 2 a.m. we knew Reyes had been convinced to join. His only condition was: Show us a million people on EDSA so it will b easier to bring in the service commanders.

“And they asked when the crowd was thickest; we told them: from three to five in the afternoon. So they agreed to come to EDSA at around that time. But while hiding in their safehouse, they got reports that General Calimlim could not be located and their first thought was: “He’s out looking for us!” So they decided to rush to EDSA right away. When they got there, why there too at the Shrine was Calimlim! He had been looking for them all right, but join to join them, not to arrest them!

“Our group there was a back-up strike force. In fact, it was our group that won over to our side the PNP first. If Panfilo Lacson had resisted, he and his men would have been repelled: there would have been bloodshed, but not on EDSA. In every place where Erap loyalists had a force, we had a counter-force to face it, with orders to shoot. And not only in Metro Manila. Carillo had already been sent to the provinces; and in Nueva Ecija, for instance, we had Rabosa. This was a fight to the finish. That’s why those five days that Erap was demanding were so important. He was counting on counter-coups and baliktaran.

“I was negotiating with Pardo up to three o’clock in the morning: niloloko lang pala kami. But I told him point-blank: “If by six o’clock this morning you haven’t given us the resignation letter, we will storm the gates of Malacañang!’ But they insisted on more talk: with De Villa up front, and my back channel debate with Pardo, which even became a three-way contest, with Buboy Virata pitching in.

“But the threat to march to Malacañang was for real. And so was the danger of bloodshed. I wasn’t telling Gloria everything: I didn’t want her alarmed. So she didn’t know about the orders to shoot.” #

  214. Angie Reyes, had been in on it for quite some time… He said so himself (can’t find the Inquirer article anymore but Randy David commented on it himself.)

(Randy David commented about it in his Inquirer Column 14 May 2006 (but can’t find it anymore either. However, here’s my blog commens about David’s article Randy David writes on Gen Angie Reyes’ 11th hour decision )

In his PDI column of May 14, 2006 “Public Lives”, Professor Randy David, of the University of the Philippines dissected the 11th hour “explanations” of General Angelo T Reyes (Ret) CSAFP and why he organized a military mutiny that toppled a duly elected president of the Republic of the Philippines in 2001 in favor of then sitting Vice-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Randy David admitted that he himself “was jolted by the appearance of the military at the Edsa Shrine.” He averred that “it set a dangerous precedent.”

The good professor also pointed out certain “simplistic” manner with which General Reyes tried to justify the whys and the wherefores of his act in January 2001 which David admitted he simply glossed over when they were first published by the PDI in March 2001, under the title “The 11th Hour Decision.”

Now, I don’t want to dissect the reasons for Professor Randy David’s checking into or questioning Reyes’ “plea” some five years later. I am more concerned with asking the right questions which are answerable even by an ordinary PMA plebe or perhaps, why not answer Randy David’s questions myself…

Let’s tackle the points that David outlined in his column:

  215. David says that by way of justification, Reyes declared “We made the decision because it was the only constitutional option left to avert a colossal disaster for the nation.”

Reyes was lying when he said that. He had bamboozled his major service generals into making that decision not because it was the only constitutional option left to whatever disaster he, a military man, saw but he because he had already committed his mutinous support to Madam Gloria Arroyo before that fatidic date. The proof? Madam Arroyo was sitting next door while Reyes was earnestly persuading, negotiating with AFP major service commanders to join him, waiting for Reyes to call her in and for Reyes to present her to the military ensemble as their “new commander-in-chief”.

Although it is easy for Reyes to imply later on that the military generals altogether made a decision, he didn’t specify that he fought it out with the -generals so that they could come to his way of thinking and only after he was able to placate the angry Air Force chief to pipe down. Given his “power of persuasion”, why didn’t he use it instead to defend the Constitution?

In fact, Reyes was being intellectually dishonest when he said that it was the only constitutional option left “to avert a colossal national disaster”. The more honest thing to say was that the generals weren’t convinced till the 11th hour to forsake their commander in chief. A major service commander in that gathering was prepared to fight it out with Lt Gen Espinoza’s band of rebel sources even minutes prior to the military climb on stage at Edsa and this is the truth.

  216. Realistically at that crucial moment in history, the only Constitutional option left for the military to avert Reyes’ dreamed up “colossal disaster” for the nation was to keep the chain of command intact, to stand solid behind the legitimate coommander in chief and to protect the seat of government by defending President Estrada at all cost.

There is nothing in the Constitution that provides for averting a collosal disaster for the nation by a nonsensical “withdrawal of support” to purposely put in place a vice-president in place of a still sitting president. NOWHERE!

According to David, General Reyes also buttressed his reason with the following statement: “My decision was not directed against the government. It was to protect the government against forces ready to take advantage of the situation for their own ends.”

Not directed against the government? But of course, his decision was directed against the government – Estrada’s government. It would have been clearer had he said his decision was not against the State. Just the same, Reyes was simply trying to split hair or to hoodwink people into believing that his intentions were more noble than what they actually were – treacherous, treasonous and self-serving.

  217. His decision was meant to protect the government against sinister forces? Then why didn’t he? According to Lt General Benjamin P Defensor, PAF chief (Ret), they learned that Lt General Edgardo Espinoza had been boasting that he was about to descend to Manila from Quezon province with a couple of Philippine Marines battalions three days before Reyes and his mutinous generals mounted the stage at Edsa. Why didn’t Reyes have Espinoza arrested on the spot? Espinoza’s ramblings were more than just muntinous, they were treasonous. Reyes should have ordered the Espinoza’s arrest illico and had him placed behind military prison bars until a court martial could have been convened to try him until the colossal disaster was averted.

Also, why did he not inform President Joseph Estrada, his commander-in-chief that a military rebellion was in the offing, led no less by a star-ranking officer? This clear act of ommission by the highest ranking commander, chief of staff armed forces of a legitimate president is an act of treachery in itself – there’s no other word for it! Could it be because he himself was playing ball with with Arroyo at that time for the ultimate military nonsense called “withdrawal of support?” Could it be because he had developed cold feet and decided that Espinoza who was being backed to the hilt by Arroyo was proving too tough a nut to crack? Could be it be a confluence of all those reasons that drove a thinking soldier not to think as a military commander at all?

  218. Had Reyes wanted to really avert a colossal disaster, he could have commanded Vice-Admiral David Wong FOIC PN (Ret) to keep the Marines int their barracks. Vice-Admiral Wong was not a lightweight general – he could and would have been able to jump the gun on Lt General Espinoza had the Chief of Staff Armed Forces of the Philippines not played footsie with Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Any rational and thinking military commander, especially at Reyes’ level need not be told that when trying “to avert a colossal disaster for the nation”, the commander’s first and foremost duty is to make sure that all components of the military are accounted for and second, to issue a direct order that any officer who attempts to break the chain of command shall be arrested and court martialled.

So why didn’t he do any of the two basic acts required of an honest military commander in time of “crisis”?

Reyes, says Randy David, also had turned down an invitation to meet with Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, then president in waiting on the basis that he couldn’t do something like that “behind the President’s back, then the same thing could happen to Vice President Arroyo should she become chief executive herself one day.”

  219. If Reyes had been honest from the start, he could have reported the “invitation” to his legitimate commander in chief whom he was duty bound to inform since the invitation was clearly a form of threat to the legitimate presidency. The invitation was an obvious attempt to subvert the top commander of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (Reyes hinted as much n his discourse) which didn’t seem only political in nature but had a direct impact on national security. So, what made him re-think his stand when he finally accepted to meet with Arroyo without informing Estrada as to what was being planned against the presidency? What happened to his thinking processes? Had flattering attentions from one section of the political spectrum began to go to his head and numbed his thinking ability to do what was the militarily correct thing to do?

Randy David also noted quite pointedly that Reyes did make contact with “retired General Renato de Villa, one of the closest aides of Vice President Macapagal-Arroyo, to get a picture of the situation from the United Opposition’s point of view.”

Aha! There lies the crux of the matter! The “thinking soldier” who boasts of an A-Star AIM degree in finance, had decided to seize the opportunity of doing his person a great career favor. In one sense, the going was getting tough and since the tough wasn’t going anywhere, he decided that it would be to his personal advantage to jump ship and join the Arroyo clan of conspirators through conduit General Renato de Villa, CSAFP (Ret).

  220. There seems to be no other logical military explanation. Reyes’ motive for not defending the Constitution, not protecting the Republic from its enemies from within and beyond and for wittingly falling prey to the political overtures of Arroyo can only point to his personal career “betterment” – he seized the opportunity to seem, look and feel important in the eyes of the civilians who had been courting him. The temptation to be make history was so great that he lost all sense of nuance. In other words, his personal agrandisement and potentials for a higher, perhaps political, even presidential, carrer option were uppermost in his mind at that particular time. Either that or cowardice consumed his military person.

  221. Therefore, I am convinced that given the foregoing, soldier Reyes was not being quite truthful then and neither is he being truthful today. Had he truly wanted “to avert a colossal disaster” for the nation and had not just seized on an opportunity to make himself a seat of importance in a different presidential setting, he could have made one of three decisions:

    1. He, as chief of all the armed forces could have led the military in the performance of their solemn duty to defend the government at all cost against all enemies from within and beyond, arrested the military plotters beginning with Lt General Edgardo Espinoza, Arroyo’s favorite “Espi”.

    2. As a military commander, he should have kept his commander in chief informed and advised of the security threats that were hounding his presidency and by extension, the government from day 1 of the brewing trouble, beginning with the “invitation” to meet with Arroyo.

    3. At that crucial moment when he was convincing his major service commanders to commit mutiny and install Gloria Macapagal Arrroyo in Malacanang, one of the generals was fighting tit for tat with him and was saying, “Let’s call for a snap election now!”, Reyes could have gone for that suggestion. A snap election might not have been the ideal solution but it would have certainly averted the “colossal disaster” which he quite wittingly forced us to face today – breaching of the Constitution and the thwarting of the Rule of Law including one of the most subversive acts committed on a democratic republic: the military-judicial putsch which re-enforced the illegal Macapagal Arroyo occupancy of the presidency.

The worst thing that Reyes did as a soldier and a military commander is that instead of averting a colossal disaster, he wreaked havoc on the military institution by instituting a tradition of cowardice.

I agree with Randy David that it’s good to be a thinking soldier but what is not good is to be a cowardly soldier!

  222. Angie Reyes, whom I know personally and dealt with personally, was a scum general and a shithead defence secretary … ask his money bag men, the Vacas.

  223. To me, Erap, good or bad was the then legitimately elected and sworn president of the Republic — the military’s duty was to ensure that the Constitution was preserved by thwarting any threat to the Republic from within and from beyond — Erap, lousy and shitty a person he might be was the symbol of that Republic and its democracy (no matter how wobbly it might be), and Reyes and Davide, two of the insitutional sworn officers of the land at the time committed the most attrocious crime against the Republic and the people.

Because of their moral cowardice and their personal vested interest, the country reverted to the Taliban regime like of governance with misrule of law as its guiding doctrine. For that, they should not be forgiven.

They should be hanged for what they’ve done.

  224. They should be hanged for what they’ve done and not idolised!

Its a bit absurd going all out against Davide and keep mum about Villar, Trillanes, and the Magdalo…if we are to shed light, let it shine on everything…or not at all…
    __

Go back to that loop and tell me if we kept mum on Villar and Trillanes et al. Dito nga ay wala pa si Tongue….

But I’m beginning to believe that Trillanes must have a legitimate reason for his move. (Not saying it’s right or wrong but just an observation…)

  227. Anyway, the fact that “Erap surrendered the presidency without a fight” does not exonerate both Davide and Reyes of their crime against the Constitution and against the Republic or the people.

Absolutely! And the worst thing, is that this craphead has the gall to face the nation, insult the intelligence of people by talking about Gloria Arroyo’s corruption when he enjoyed and benefitted from serving and defending her the fullest until three weeks ago.

He is shitting everyone about…!!! Putangina niya!

Anna, Senator Trillanes and I have already talked via FB emails. 🙂

Thanks for the retrieved articles, ayan hindi na sila makakapagsinungaling.

    Anna:

I believe you. I said that in the context of Reyes and Erap’s being magkakumpadre. What seemed to us then was the reluctance on his part to launch pre-emptive strikes against Malacanang to resolve the impasse. Remember that he and Calimlim were with Erap until his last moments in Malacanang just to make sure that latter and his family would not be harmed. But I agree that he is a shithead. At least, that was the message he tried to convey in our monitoring of the events. But like u said, there was more than meets the eye. As usual, your sources are better than mine. Hands down. . . 🙂

  232. henry90 henry90

    Florry:

“Wow! Henry, so you have a free nightly access in your former office even though you were not with the PSG anymore? You were such a lucky guy to be accorded with that privilege. Maybe you were that kind of someone special.”

My dear, do u know where PSG headquarters is and where the presidential yacht is docked? They are miles apart. You didn’t even know which unit I was with during that time. If you don’t have any clue, please be careful with your comments.

  234. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

Let’s rewind the story behind the ouster of Erap in 2001 coup. Hilario Davide’s Supreme Court legitimized the illegal acts of Fat Pig and his co-conspirators.

General Fidel V. Ramos, et al Coups

    ‘We’ve Just Committed Mutiny’
In the midst of this political fight, a suit was filed on May 16, charging former Chief of Staff Angelo Reyes (now the Defense Secretary), outgoing Army Chief Diomedio Villanueva, retired Gen. Fortunato Abat, and retired Gen. Leo Alvez, with the crime of coup d’état, in regard to the withdrawal of the military’s support for the Commander in Chief, President Joseph Estrada, on Jan. 19, 2001. The law cited is clear: “The crime of coup d’état is a swift attack accompanied by violence, intimidation, threat, strategy or stealth, directed against the duly constituted authorities of the Republic … with or without civilian support or participation, for the purpose of seizing or diminishing state power.”
Certain facts about the coup are undeniable: General Abat, head of a retired military association tied to Ramos, organized support for the coup for nearly a year, as he himself bragged after the fact; and General Reyes, after meeting with Ramos, called the other military chiefs together to declare his intention to desert his allegiance to the constitutional mandate for civilian authority over the military. Despite efforts over the past year to deny that this Ramos coup was in fact a coup, those named in the suit have responded by admitting it, but calling it “justified” because successful!

  237. There can be no, absolutely no justification for the failure of Reyes to defend the Constitution from its violators and niether should there be a justification for the crime of Davide against the people when he aided and abetted the violators of the Constitution to shit on the Rule of Law!

I can’t stress enough the fact that “Erap surrendered the presidency without a fight” does not, can not and should not, exonerate both Davide and Reyes of their crime against the Constitution and against the Republic.

  238. Talagang spot on ka, Chi!

  240. I agree with Henry with regard to the nocturnal habits of Erap while he was president (as with the complete overhaul of the BRP Ang Pangulo gratis et amore.

He loved the BRP Ang Pangulo when it was either anchored, or under way (but not making way) and would spend a great deal of time there for varied reasons, good timing with friends and cronies (R&R 🙂 ), conducting checks on and whatever state business with some department heads, etc. In fact a yacht or another ship owned by ex US convict – tax evader Jimenez would make way towards BRP Pangulo and anchor beside her carrying aboard her (the other ship) a mixed bevy of Manila’s young socialites and starlets, etc., trying to entice Erap to join the fun.

It was not unusual for Erap to conduct state business involving the military aboard the BRP Ang Pangulo.

  241. It was aboard the BRP Ang Pangulo when he decided that he would not sack/relieve a major service commander because he had suspected the said commander of having been a “supporter” of JdV.

Now with regard to BW (someone commented on this issue above), my take:

True that Erap and Dante Tan of BW had excellent buddy-buddy relationsip that involved both good time and money-making businesses but it is important to know one of the people who made the most money was Sen Cayetano (father of Alan and Pia Cayetano) in the insider trading schemes of Tan’s IP offering.

As we all know the BW Bingo project was meant to legalise jueteng and of course, the primary reason was to legalise jueteng but as ever, it was a business favour for Tan from Erap.

To be clear, we may accuse BW’s (or Tan’s)of lese majesté or of croynism, accepting presidential largesse or anything else but whatever business endeavours were put up by Tan in that (Bingo) regard cannot be equated with the crime of looting of the state coffers that Macapagal’s cronies have been involved in — not by a long shot, no way.

Dante Tan’s Bingo business (main business of BW at the time) must not be confused with Jaime Dichavez’ involvement as de facto head of the DOTC (poor Jun Rivera) where Dichavez carried life and death influence over state business.

  242. Dang! I should know better… sorry, meant:

He loved the BRP Ang Pangulo when SHE was either anchored, or under way (but not making way)…

  243. florry florry

    Henry,
A couple more questions if you don’t mind.

During Erap’s time you were James Bond. I understand that to be as undercover, or a government agent.

To my almost nil knowledge about the workings of the military, I assumed that maybe you are with the Military intelligence working for the government gathering information and data and always on the look-out for any sign of trouble that will compromise the security of the state.

Coup plotters or power-grabbers in a democratic government are enemies of the state.

My question is: If you are into what you call James Bonding, why did your group never came across on the plot to grab power from the government? That of course is not the job of Erap to always look at his back for putsies because he put his trust in the constitution that guaranteed his elected tenure. From day one of Erap’s presidency, there’s already a plan to grab power by the civil society group. That’s quite a long time until the plotters succeeded but how come the MIS or MIG or CDIG or whatever never learned of the plan.

Was it because of incompetence, ineptness or because the group was into the plan? That thing always puzzles me. Maybe I can get an answer from you.

  244. henry90 henry90

Easier said than done Florry. . .the success of a power grab is more dependent on the secrecy of its inception as much as its execution. . . we did hear a lot of rumblings from the ranks but the ring leaders were far more too careful in the open so as not to telegraph their punches. Plans were discussed in the inner sanctum of the brass’s residences or in some posh hotels in Ortigas or Makati that our lowly intel operatives would have no way of accessing these rendezvous areas.

Others were downright conspirators. One thing that I’ve learned throughout the whole drama that was the Erap impeachment was that the television was a cruel medium. The vaunted Erap charisma and the battery of ‘de campanilla’ lawyers did not do him any good. I knew personally of so many soldiers who lost faith in him. If u ask me personally, no,I did not shirk from my duty to report what my unit monitored that time and believe me, it was a lot. In fact, I got reassigned to Visayas because of that. Not long after, I bid them all goodbye. I hope that gives you a little insight of my ‘inconsequential’ role in the Erap saga. . . 🙂

    Henry,
From what I know a lot of our soldiers still love and respect President Erap. He was the only commander in chief who ordered an all=out war against the MILF and the muslim bandits. He likewise is the only President who gave one sack of rice per soldier per month. He has a caring heart whatever you say.

Very typical of the civil society. Nobody is perfect, Erap has so many flaws but you have to credit him for the good that he has done naman.

Yes , Erap is not PERFECT. We knew his flaws because his life is an open book. We believe the other presidential candidates are good or better maybe because we don’t know much of their past. But I believe ERAP did his best to for the good of the majority. He followed our Constitution even submitting himself to impeachment. I never recall any incident na magkaroon ng violent dispersal sa mga rally during his presidency dahil he believed in freedom of speech. He always allowed rallyist to express their grievances. It is only during his time na mataas ang respeto sa mga kalupisan. And the welfare of the military/police were met. The impeachment trial was our chance to prove that we are already POLITICALLY MATURED as a country. And we BLEW IT! 257. MPRivera MPRivera

We had our chance to prove our maturity as a nation…and We BLEW IT BIG!

  270. Henry,

Agree… would be difficult for PSG to counter 81mm mortar fire unless there’s some direct vision of where firing is coming from (Btw, did army finally purchase Royal Ordnance mortars?).

But there’s potential defence v 81mm mortars because these mortars can be locked onto very easily by the missiles stationed in Malacanang; obviously to be effective, the PSG must determine where the firing will come from (and that won’t be easy) and besides, I wonder if they’ve [SAMs) been serviced as was recommended several times in the past. (Btw, si ex-boss mo ang bumili niyan.)

Although Malacanang missiles are SAMs, they can be used as SSMs if required or for as long as there’s some heat they can lock on to.

— perl

Besides CSAFP, any one major service commander could have reported to Erap if (1) that commander had wanted to (2) or if said commander had intel reports linked to subversion plans. ISAFP would have coursed their reports through AFP GHQ channels though unless a member of ISAFP was close to Erap or to PSG chief. Of course, you also have intel services of major service commands (PA, PAF, PN).

In that sense, there’s actually no need to go through DND if reports are vital to Erap’s security. Also, PSG, has its own intel operations (as Henry confirmed), so former PSG chief Calimlim must have known.

The AFP is a very small military organisation so it is easy to believe that subversion plans by some members of the military will remain an eternal well-kept secret.

Example: Angelo Reyes, who, btw, was a “production man” at intel himself during his junior years, wouldn’t have travelled to his rendezvous point with Gloria or with her emissaries on his own.

He would have been accompanied by a driver (military), an aide (military), a coterie of other military stringers, etc. These people may have been quiet/silent but they saw and heard (normal thing) — they are/were not dumb either, so there were people who would have known but weren’t prepared to do anything about it.

Erap trusted his generals so much he probably thought that the parties he gave in their honour in Malacanang (occassions when there were more stars in the palace than in the sky) that he had them “under control”. That’s why I said at one point that he was asleep on the job.

  273. What’s surprising is that there were already snippets of news that or retired generals were stirring trouble, eg., Abat, Alvez (classmate of Calimlim, PSG chief under Erap), etc., before the impeachment exercises and months before the actual “withdrawal of support” yet Erap seemed to have taken these things for granted and so, he was caught flat-footed in January.

  274. Erap’s greatest tactical failing was when Espinoza threatened to come down from Quezon to attack Malacanang on or about the 17th-18thh of January yet Erap failed to assemble his generals to give straightforward orders in his capacity as commander-in-chief thereby losing precious time.

He was probably overwhelmed and was so stressed out by the resignations left right and center by members of his cabinet at that point so could not think straight. Could be the only reason why he did not do something to try to avert the disaster himself.

  275. ooops,

The AFP is a very small military organisation so it is easy to believe that subversion plans by some members of the military will not remain an eternal well-kept secret.

  276. Btw, remember the Magdalo reunions prior to Oakwood? How did those secret meetings end in the news? There was a mole or someone squealed as per news report. That’s probably what precipitated the staging of the Oakwood “mutiny” (which to me was an attempted coup d’état and not just mutiny.) In other words, there’s always one or two in the military who knows and who may not necessarily approve of what’s going on. Problem is passing the info… and what happens to that info.

    Luzviminda,

At nananatili hanggang ngayon.

In my view, it’s always been the generals who had been undermining our Democracy. Erap will not be deposed if not for these people. There’s no Hello Garci, if not for these people, Magdalo and Lim’s group will not be in jail to eternity, until today (except for Lim and few others), if not for these people. Just look at the history of many graft and corruptions involving the generals, especially those former comptrollers from Marcos time to date. Just look at pandak’s government after Hello Garci came out, She become irrelevant with those ex-generals running the show and holding key positions in our government, especially those government controlled corporations in parnetship with her. Many talk about pandak’s crime or disservice to many and yet nobody seems to talk about those ex-generals in her cabinet directly involve in many issues hounding our country, especially issues related to graft, if not, direct thieving of our government coffers. Pandak get the blame, the generals gets the money. I’m not saying pandak is not to blame she is. She’s equally responsible for letting this things happen in the open to include other dealing politicians. She should have resigned from her position long ago instead of prolonging her failed and undermined government. People still talk of possible junta without realizing we are for quite sometime now.

that said ang kapal ng mukha ni davide na magmalinis pagkatapos niya tanggapin ang appointment niya to the the u.n. na against the rules. tapang ng apog.

tandaan nating nagsimula si davide as a politician. na born-again to a “clean” public servant nung concon at sa comelec. sa supreme court, he tried to appear clean but insiders know he was one of the justices who can be “convinced”. (Digress: you have to give it to arpan, kahit ma-drama siya, he was the only during that time who cannot be “convinced”.)

sa tantya ko, yumaman si davide ng mga 36M pesos in the UN. nice work if you can get it, right? siguro akala niya danyos niya yun sa mga ginawa ng conjuanco sa kanya.

ngayon naman he’s prostituting himself for his son who wants to be governor. jun jun davide is not the sharpest tool in the shed. cebu is between a rock and a hard place.

my fear is that noynoy will treat davide like cory did. i hope noynoy will use and discard the old coot.

    MPRivera,
SO SAD.

    LVM:

Yeah right. . .lol
