Update: Kris Aquino urges Abunda to accept position of Tourism secretary; admits it was her idea

Ano ba naman ito.

Ayun sa report ng GMA News TV, gusto raw ni Noynoy Aquino, ang nanalo sa pagka-pangulo ng Pilipinas sa nakaraaang eleksyun , iniisip raw niya bigyan ng pwesto sa gobyerno ang mga Kapuso stars na si Dingdong Dantes at Ogie Alcasid.

Lumabas ito ng tinanong siya kung sino pa sa mga taga showbiz ang iniisip niyang i-appoint sa pamahalaan maliban kay TV host na si Boy Abunda ng ABS-CBN, ang sagot ni Aquino, “Si Dingdong, si Ogie…siguro dun sa mga advocacy nila gaya sa youth.”

Hindi pa raw niya nakaka-usap ang dalawa na tumulong sa kanya noong kampanya. Ngunit ang pag-suporta sa kanya raw ay hindi lamang ang basehan ng kanyang desisyon na kukunin sila para manglingkod sa gobyerno.

“Matagal din naman natin silang nakasama sa kampanya, nalaman natin ang mga advocacy nila, ano yung mga tinutulungan nilang sector, sayang naman kung hindi magtutuloy-tuloy,” paliwanag ni Aquino.

Dagdag pa niya: “Kung papayag sila (Dingdong at Ogie) bakit hindi. Si Dingdong alam ko may youth foundationsi Ogie ganun din yata plus yung OPM (organisasyon ng mang-aawit).”

Kahit na tinangggihan na ni Abunda ang kanyang alok para magiging tourism secretary, aalukin pa rin daw niya. “Narinig ko yung interview (kay Abunda) mukhang ayaw yata.Pero ako naniniwala na qualified si Boy, may pinag-aralan naman siya,” sabi pa niya.

Dito ngayon lumalabas ang kahinaan ni Aquino sa pagpatakbo ng isang organisasyun dahil nga wala naman siyang karanasan talaga mamuno ng isang negosyo o organisasyun. Dito rin nakikita na napakakitid ng kanyang mundo ginagalawan noon kaya madali siyang ma-impress.

Ang problema nito, hinalal siya na pangulo ng Pilipinas. Buong gobyerno ang kanyang pamahalaaan.Malaki ang kapangyarihan niya sa pagpili ng mga tauhan na tutulong sa kanya at nakasalalay sa mga desisyon niya ang kapakanan ng sobra 90 milyon na Pilipino, kasama tayo diyan.

Hindi ko sinasabi na hindi kaya ni Dingdong at ni Ogie ang ibibigay na trabaho ni Aquino. Hindi nga klaro kung anong klase ng trabaho ang nasa-isip niya. Hepe ba ng isang opisina? Siguro naman kasi hindi naman sila pwedeng magiging ordinary na kawani at mga star yan.
O baka naman consultant lang sila. Sana nga ganun lang.

Kung magaling kang manager, alam mo na iba ang may advocacy ka sa isang bagay, iba yung magma-manage ka ng organisasyun. Lalo pa gobyerno. Ang tindi ng bureaucracy.

Marami akong kilala na magaling sa pagmartsa sa kalsada at magtalumpati sa mga rally. Ngunit pagdating na sa orgnisasyun at paghawak ng pera, nagkakandaloko-loko na.

Ang unang gawin dapat ni Aquino ay alamin niya ang sitwasyun sa sector kung saan mag-appoint siya ng isang tao. Kunwari sa turismo, kausapin niya dapat ang mga lider sa turismo. Maghingi siya ng mga suhestyon at mga pangalan ng mga respetado ay may alam sa sector nay yun. Makakatulong yun sa kanyang paggawa ng desisyon.

    This is a re-post of my OT comment on the other thread last June 4. Dito pala ang dapat.

    Noynoy is contemplating of offering government positions to Dingdong and Ogie. Just wondering what could be the designations Noynoy has in mind.

    Maybe Noynoy should build a government subsidized schools for acting, singing, composing, hosting, emceeing and other nuts and bolts for show biz and employed all those show biz people in various capacities who helped him in his campaign; and appoint Boy Abunda as president and Kris as the CEO.

    As I said before, just like Cory, considerations and appointments need not be according to quality, but being alongside with him during the campaign.

    That’s the ultimate qualification needed to get the attention of the Aquinos.

    Not that I have anything against these two actors, but I hope Pres. Noynoy doesn’t put them in sensitive positions. Maybe they (the actors) can help the president by becoming his emissary to the people and at the same time become his eyes and ears on the ground.

    Manood at magbasa kasi tayo ng balita. Di yung ano-ano nasasabi natin para may mapansin lang. So what’s wrong if Aquino appoints Dantes in the National Youth Commission? Past administrations usually put showbiz artists in those positions due to their mass appeal and advocacies. For all we know, gratis et amore lang mga posisyon na yan. Mas malaki pa rin kita nila sa showbiz. Di natin maiiwasan yan. UNICEF nga kinuha pa si KC Concepcion as one of their Ambassadors sa mga programa nila para sa mga kabataan. Angelina Jolie is another example. Kung doon din lang naman sa linya nila at mga adbokasiya, why the fuzz?

  5. I have nothing against Dingdong and Ogie. Every man has his talent and potential, so why not? Just because either of them has no questionable doctorate does not mean that he cannot aspire to greater heights. I say give them a chance.

    With two beautiful omens–the sundog on May 9 and the alignment of Jupiter and Venus after the elections–President-elect Noynoy Aquino can do no wrong! He is blessed as well as guided. And so are we as a people, by extension.

    He did not say in what capacity would they be appointed. Talent ba to promote their advocacy? He was not clear about it.

    But it’s not media’s fault kung walang katuturan ang pinagsasabi niya. Yun nga ang lalabas. kaya you are right, bawas-bawasan nya siguro ang pagdadaldal sa media.

    My friends in the DFA said President-apparent Noynoy read the article of Ellen on Romulo and he met with some ambassadors who told him what is happening in the DFA. Mukhang malabong ma-retain si Romulo.

    I have no arguments of appointing these personalities to the position, even for sake of argument that it would not pay as much as in their private undertakings…no government position offers such…it is for service…BUT…to offer these positions as paybacks for the services rendered, it smacks right Centre at the thing Called Patronage, which is the main Illness that is to be avoided if President Aquino really wanted Change, otherwise, it will not make any difference from the Past…

    I think these are not pay-back or due to their service to Noynoy. Pres. Noynoy wants them to continue the advocacy they are having for. We have seen many showbiz personalities from GMA government and at the time of Erap as well. The question is why the fuzz? Let us all wait for the first day of Pres. Noynoy. I know that some who are against it are the ones who did not even voted for Noynoy.

    The President has the prerogative to choose these people as long as they are qualified and in line with their capabilities & advocacy to govern.

    Well, may punto ka Ms. Becky…dapat itong si Noynoy e magkaroon naman ng delicadeza lalo na sa pagsasalita? He is a President-elect so dapat wait lang muna till na makaupo siya sa enchanted kingdom.

    Being an elected public servant at siya ang kumakatawan sa 90M+ na Noypi so dapat lang na maging professional siyang kumilos at magsalita para maging magandang halimbawa sa loob at labas ng bansa.

    Di ba ang kanilang bukang-bibig e pagbabago…so, dapat magsimula ito sa kanila at ang Noypi naman e magkaroon ng maganda ehempl sa mga lingkod-bayan na isinisiksik ang sarili upang makapaglingkod daw sila.

    Kaya masmakakabuti kay Noynoy na maging maingat sa pagbibitiw ng infos para walang amuyong na gawin itong isyu at tirahin siya ng walang habas.

    Good luck Noy…dito lang kami na magbabantay sa iyong bagong rehime!

    Iyan ang pinakatumpak na dapat isagawa ni Noynoy kaagad. Walang ibang nakakaalam sa kanya-kayang sektor kundi ang mga lider mismo, isama na niya ng mga piling representatives ng mga empleado ng sektor, at saka siya gumawa ng desisyon kung sino ang dapat i-appoint.

    Inuuna ni Noynoy ang mga artista. Pag-amin ba yan na kung hindi sa kanila ay hindi sya lalamang ng malaki kay Erap? Sa ganang akin, kahit wala ang mga artistang yan (na mabuti sana) ay panalo pa rin sya ng malaki dahil sa protest votes against Gloria.

    Pagbutihin sana ni Noynoy ang pagpili ng mga ia-appoint sa kanyang administrasyon. At itong mga artista naman sana ay may delikadesa na tumanggi. Sobra na ang mga artista sa gobyerno, bigyan ng pwesto ang iba na mas marunong, mas may karanasan at mas deserving to be recognized. Ang dami nila sa career officials. Ang kaso ay ni hindi yata sila sinusulyapan man lang.

    So, did you mean that those who didn’t vote for Noynoy have no right to comment or express their opinions against Noynoy’s choices? That’s an undemocratic statement.

    If we’re going to wait for Noynoy to take his picks before we even register complaints, we’ll be just repeating the mistake of letting or ignoring Gloria Arroyo’s bad choices and actions.

    We should continue to be vigilant even if there’s a change in leadership. If Noynoy floats a choice or plan and we don’t agree, we should right away call his attention. That way, if he is a true leader, he would listen before taking a definite action. A good leader does not make decisions on impulse and personal likings, he consults not only his advisers but more importantly the people.

    We should complaint if there’s a need but we should also let him know if we agree or happy about his choices, plans and actions. Walang personalan, trabaho ng mamamayan ang magbantay na pinabayaan sa panahon ni Gloria.

    Ano ang malabo doon sa sinabi nya? I watched his interview wirh Lei Alvez nang dumating sya from a short respite sa Tarlac. He waqs thinking of assigning Dantes doon sa National Youth Commission. The same post Richard Gomez held in Erap’s time. Ano ang issue mo dito? Tama ang sinabi mo. Unicef is not a Philippine government agency. UN lang naman. Pero taartits ang mga kinukuha as ambassadors of goodwill dahil nga sa people can easily relate to them because they are easily recognizable. Kumita ba si Gomez ng pera sa NYC ng naupo siya rito?

    Ang hirap sa atin, iniisip pa lang ng tao ang gagawin, mali na agad. Parang sala sa init, sala sa lamig tayo niyan. Tingnan mo ang appointment nya kay Jojo Ochoa as his ES. Puna agad ng mga kritiko. “Sino yan? Di naman kilala yan”. Pero pag kilala naman ang itinalaga diyan, tiyak sasabihin na naman nila, “Bakit yan? Wala na bang iba diyan?”. Parang nakakaloko. Aquino apologist? No Mam. Just giving him the benefit of the doubt.

    Nagbabasa o may taga-basa si Noynoy ng Ellenville that’s for sure. Hindi lang sya, daming mga political leaders and nagmomonitor dito. Pinakamatindi ay si Gloria at Mike Arroyo. Sa Ellenville nakakatikim ng pinakamatinding complaints at mura ang mga politiko, ang ilan sa kanila ay open sa suggestions and angal coming from over here. Yun mag-asawang hinayupak ay nagpapadala ng bomba de salita via paid commenters.

    You created a screening committee supposedly to screen those you will appoint to government positions. Have Boy Abunda, Ogie Alcasid and Dingdong Dantes passed the screening committee?

    Never mind. The screening committee is your creation. They won’t dare object to your choices.

    Ogie’s wife, regine Velasquez also helped in your campaign. Dapat bigyan din siya ng position. Also Pokwang and Ai-Ai.

    There are more than 10,000 positions that you have to fill. I’m sure you will find good positions for them.

As far as I’m concerned: depends on the positions he wants to appoint them to… if he appoints them to major and sensitive cabinet postings, defence, finance, health, education, foreign affairs, etc., might not be appropriate at all but if he appoints one or the other to posts where their experience, talent and influence will be effective, eg., film board, youth board, or similar boards, why not? Particularly if they are good, honest and hardworking, can’t see why they shouldn’t be tapped for a “government” job!

    (Unless of course they have a criminal record, are drug users, pedophiles, tax evaders or whatever…)

We have seen that rebelling, complaining, chismis, etc. didn’t work at all with the past administration, you’re just fooling yourselves and making the same mistakes all over again. Stop, think, and just do your jobs well, individually excel in whatever endeavor you are in, let the leaders do their work, give them some slack…if Gloria’s reign was the worst in Philippine history, this time will only be better…or perhaps you changed your minds and want Gloria back? hmmmm. come to think of it, who are you really? are you working for her and preparing the way for her return?

  28. Gloria, even as she leaves, has left a ton of problems for the next administration. The obstacles she left behind, the tainted institutions, and the alliances that could possibly rally behind her to paralize the next leader is quite evident. She has at her disposal, the expertise, the money, and the gumption to distabilize, tie up, slow down any attempt to lift up our country. She can probably give us some lessons on how to properly organize a strong, well funded, opposition, one more purposeful than we have ever seen.
    The people have spoken, its clear that we want change, but “properly” , actors were chosen above others we deemed even more qualified…perhaps the judgment of several million people is wiser than those of us who refuse to see?
    Let us subject ourselves to the will of the majority (most number) and work together.
    Let us support this coming administration because they will need it, we need this change, we have to change…
    Noynoy will inherit a snake pit, can we blame him for looking for people he can trust?

    Gaano kadalas bang mag-pa-interview si Cory? In fact, I first heard the phrase “ambush interview” in Cory’s time, because she was so averse to photo ops unlike the penchant for them of a less worthy woman. She would graciously face the cameras of private individuals who wanted to take home a photo of them with the president.

    When the NBA teams gear up for the next season, everybody waits for the announcement of the first drafts and the starting line-up. Nobody gives a hoot whether or not your head cheerleader is some blonde hick from Kentucky or some all-American girl from California.

    Similarly, I am waiting for the cabinet of the Noy, not contemplated appointments to some inconsequential position like the youth commission. Walang nagawa yang opisinang yan, from Imee Marcos’ Kabataang Barangay, to FVR’s youth commission under his incompetent nephew, Ranjit Shahani.

    Ochoa is okay, because he has administered a big city like QC. Certainly magnitudes better than Mother Cory’s Joke, Executive Secretary Arroyo. This is the man who never managed anything, but was tasked to manage the Philippines.

    The campaign is over, so there is no need to chase air time, or to be popular for the heck of being popular. One has to be popular because what was done is correct. I am hoping for pronouncements that would make me exclaim “oo nga ano, why didn’t we think of that? instead of “bakit yan”?

    Noy benefited from Mother Cory’s memory. I hope he also benefits and learns from her mistakes.

    And please, let us enough of the worn-out line about prerogative. Prerogative is the refuge of that petulant economist who could not justify her decisions. The appointees are being scrutinized for their qualifications; it is not the bona fides nor the prerogative of the appointing power that is being examined.

    I’m probably the least affected by any decision any administration will ever make…so no need to make sipsip…
    The positions mentioned for Ogie/Dingdong will probably be minor but will have “goodwill” values, please try to learn how to see the big picture.

    Let him speak his mind, he’s entitle to it, how is it difficult to accept that we cannot impose our own personal expectations on another? geesh, who died and made you guys the “wise men?”

    I’m not bothered a bit that he is an associate of Liza Marcos and Ed Serapio. They are competent lawyers.

    In fact, I don’t remember having read criticisms about Ochoa in this blog.So why bring it up here?

    Presisely! from what I hear, Gloria is not afraid of Noynoy. she has amassed enough money to destabilize his administration. she can manipulate circumstances, elements, to magnify Noynoy’s inadequacy…bottomline, in some quarters, many believe that Noynoy could suffer the fate of Erap…

    Para sa akin, passé na yang mga titulo-titulo. Doctorate sa ganito, Masters sa ganyan, mga de-libro kung kumilos, de-numero, de-kahon ang utak, eto tayo ngayon, paatras.

    Mas bilib ako sa mga taong streetsmart dahil iba ang takbo ng isip. Nakabase sa personal experience. Out-of-the-box kung dumiskarte. Itong mga taong ito ang nagru-rule ngayon sa mundo.

    -Sheldon Adelson – biyunaryong may-ari ng Venetian Casino na dati lamang court reporter, dropout sa CCNY
    -Paul Allen na co-founder ng Microsoft, sipa sa Washington State U

    Ako naman, hangga’t hindi pa officially nag take over si Noynoy, wala akong official na puna. Wala pang dapat punahin.

    Guilty rin ako nung panahon ni Erap, madami akong puna sa kanya kaya naiintindihan ko yung mga die hard “anti-Noynoy”. Either I dont read their posts or wala lang. Kaya nga bihira na kong nagbabasa ng Professional Heckler at naging breeding ground na mga talunan sa pagka President para tirahin si Noynoy.

    “If anybody is to blame, it’s me. I was the one who brought it up with Noy. I was the one who brought it up with Boy, not realizing naman it would cause such a major [issue], front page, 3 araw na deretso,” she said.

    Aside from Abunda’s “marketing capabilities,” Kris said she was also impressed by her co-host’s love for his countrymen, especially those living in the provinces.

    “And most importantly, I’ve dealt with Boy with so many money matters. And kung meron kang ire-rekomenda para sa gobyerno, gusto mo ‘yong taong mapagkakatiwalaan mo, na hindi mangungurakot and protective at aalagaan ang presidente,” she added.

    She also urged Abunda, also a talent manager, to accept the position.

    She said: “Tutal naman you’re getting all these flak, and tutal naman na alam nating lahat na malaki ang maco-contribute mo para sa Pilipinas, go for it Boy… I’m sorry if I was the cause of all of these.”

    If Boy Abunda, Dingdong and Ogie did not help, will Noynoy even think of giving them a government position?

    It’s not being mean or deriding people, but for even thinking about the possibilities of these people, show shallowness of the incoming leadership. What experience these people bring with them, to sing, do comedy skits, act in some soap opera, host a gossip show and entertain Noynoy and the people inside Malacanang? Is this the kind of vision framed by Noynoy for the country’s future? We’ve been almost unanimously critical before of show biz people being in government service but now with Noynoy at the helm; some just close their eyes and say he’s doing well. What hypocrisy!

    True to form inexperienced in administration and leadership is rearing its ugly head. We have an inexperience leader, and all he can think of is to reward and payback those who helped him win the prize despite a clear lack of qualifications. Did Noynoy even set a bar or think of a criteria in hiring or getting people work for the government?

    What we have here is the future of the country and the next generations. We are not playing “bahay-bahayan” and take everything for granted. In every move and action the best possible benefit for the country should be front and center. It’s pathetic that some people think that Noynoy is infallible, that he can do no wrong. And pity those people who were so deaf and blinded by the myth of the Aquinos brought about by media hype that they are some kind of deity and tend to forget what is good for the country.

    The idea to wait until an appointment is made is silly. Why wait when the damage has already been done? The reason why we have to comment on reports is to pre-empt and prevent the appointments which we feel is not right.

    The leadership should bear in mind that whatever strategy they had, they will never succeed unless they get and hire the right and qualified people for the job.

    That’s how businesses attain success and so is a government.

    If you read Machiavelli, its all about impression, and the management thereof…star power is a potent force, why not harness it? If you haven’t noticed yet, the people prefer actors to tradpols, your “supposed” intellectual views on who’ll do or not – may not work with real life scenarios now. Wake up! Its all about getting the message through and persuading the most number of people…
    …I suggest you relieve yourself of this insane fixation that MBA degrees, Harvard, Oxford, etc., make for good public officials…and don’t be too loud in belittling Boy Abunda or he might take it as a challenge and bite.

Gemma Araneta Cruz was made the Tourism Secretary by Erap because of what? Her looks! She’s a beauty queen, that’s why! Now did she possess impeccable academic credentials or some other gravitas necessary to become one? I don’t think so. But in fairness, she made good in DOT.

    Pero tama lang na tanggihan ni Abunda ang DOT. Nirecommend pala ni Kris eh. 😛

    As I said it’s not being mean or deriding people.

    True, these people are really good at their chosen careers and that is about entertainment, but government service is not about entertainment. Life in the entertainment world is easy, full of fun and pleasure, not much stress, pressures and deadlines, not to mention the millions that go with it. Having used to living a life of the rich and famous doesn’t fit into a government service that is its complete opposite. They will hardly survive the dull and boring situation. The hardest part is the transformation from being popular to obscurity.

    Now you are talking about who are the people who will get the job done and bring results?

    Well, people who get the job done and bring results are the RIGHT and QUALIFIED people hired to do the job, not just people and nobody else. If you want a job done and get results, get them. I’m not talking about MBA’s, but an education and especially experience.

    Citing Erap as an example is completely a different story. As an actor he manages his own film company, and president of MOWELfund, meaning he already have the necessary administrative and leadership experience proven by his success when he entered politics. He rose from the ranks from mayor and the rest is history.

    So comparing these three to him is way way out of line. The only thing that bundles them together is the show biz background. Besides that it’s really an incomparable thing.

    Unfortunately, if you come down hard, honesty involves not only being honest where cash is concerned.

    Dishonesty could lead to a certain form of corruption like when a member of an immeidate family or a relative or close firend, etc. of a powerful and influential person uses, exerts, peddles influence for another person or group of people to obtain favours or other things outside of the regulated ways of doing things, eg.,pushing for someone who is not qualified or not at the top of the leader board to obtain a govt position, or pushing for a contract just because someone is a friend, etc.

    (Of course, not saying that Aquinos do this as a habit…)

    But you should not generalize na sour-losers ‘yung iba. Unfair naman ‘yun. Kahit paano ay katwiran din naman ang pinanghahawakan at ipinaglalaban ng mga binanggit mo, kung sino sino man kami (isinama ko na ang sarili ko). Isama na rin natin ang actual experiences.

    Hindi lang naman sa libro tayo dapat kumuha ng wisdom, eh. Sobrang nakakahon na tayo nu’n.

    But I do agree with you tungkol sa tatlong itlog. Saludo rin ako sa kanila.
