Malacañang opposes Cayetano in Blue Ribbon. Will Villar surrender?

Who will chair the Blue Ribbon committee will be a test of Senate President Manuel Villar’s so called “independence.”

It will also show us if the assertion of the three opposition senators – Jinggoy Estrada, Chiz Escudero, and Alan Peter Cayetano – that the opposition will still set the agenda in the Senate despite their collaboration with Malacañang allies holds.

Last week, Villar agreed that Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano would chair the powerful Blue Ribbon Committee. It will be recalled that the opposition had expressed their disappointment over the way Sen. Joker Arroyo, chair of the Blue Ribbon in the 13th Congress, used his position to protect Mike Arroyo from the intense scrutiny of other senators who had information of his questionable deals.

The victory of seven opposition senators in the last election was a clear message that the people want a Senate that checks the abuses of Malacañang. Having Joker Arroyo continue controlling the Blue Ribbon committee would be ignoring that message.

Sen. Panfilo Lacson wanted the Blue Ribbon committee. But Villar, who is eyeing the presidency in 2010, would not want to give Lacson, whom he sees as one of his rivals, a platform for his (Lacson) anti-corruption crusade.

They settled on Cayetano and the young senator accepted the challenge.

Monday evening, the nine administration senators met in a restaurant and Arroyo joined them. The latest word is that they will not agree to Cayetano getting the Blue Ribbon Committee. It must be recalled that last year, when the opposition congressmen tried to impeach Arroyo, Cayetano exposed an account in a German bank allegedly linked to the Arroyos.

The tune that the Villar camp was singing yesterday was “Cayetano is still too young for the Blue Ribbon Committee.” I said something that is not uttered in polite company.

Wike nga sa Ingles, he did nothing but to sit on his shit (galing ko ano?).

Senate President Manny Villar had surrendered to Malacanang after the deal with GMA administration senators’ support for his senate presidency. He is now held hostage on his own personal interest. Malacanang can now dictates its own agenda. Political survival is name of the game. Senator Alan Cayetano has a political axe to grind against Jose Pidal mafia family. He may not forgotten the Abalos-Joselito Cayetano dirty works and the ouster attempt in the 13th Congress. Brenda Santiago is making lot of noises in dealing with Blue Ribbon Committee and other important senate positions.

I would have reacted the same way, Ms Tordesillas.

WE won, therefore, WE must dictate the tempo. Why should Villar kowtow to administration demands when he belongs to the victorious opposition? Are we seeing Rome invading Greece all over again? Are the conquerors allowing the conquered to conquer them?

  7. harvey harvey

  8. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

There’s nothing to test on Villar-led senate independence. Political horse-trading is a done deal. What litmus test? Kung sa Sukang Ilokos wala ng asim. Maysadong maraming halong tubig. Okinana, nalabnaw Apo!

  9. TurningPoint TurningPoint

Manny Villar’s resolve will be tested in the chairmanship of the blue ribbon commmittee. If he wavered and give way to Malacanang on who should be the chairman especially if it’s someone from the administration, it’s like signing his own death certificate if he’s dead serious to vie for the 2010 presidency. He cannot anymore extricate himself from being called paru-parong buking. Even if money talks. Parang kumunoy yan na unti-unti siyang lalamunin hanggang tuluyan lumubog at maglaho.

He could be senate presidet for a while but slowly, his credibility will erode. His treachery will not be erased from the people’s memory. And watch this. Once Sen. Trillanes echoed the words Ellen T. uttered but didn’t divulge in the thread, Villar might as well bid goodbye to his presidential ambition.

I’m just as curiouse as anyone following up the recent political circus. About Villar? Will he surrender? Siguro, I still want to be surprised…meron pa kaya?

Should be Lacson…kung talagang naibigay na kay Cayetano then make Sen. Lacson as his vice-chair or puwede bang co-chairman kasi sa house uso ang mga co-chairmanship

Most of the electorate who voted for Cayetano will be quite happy that Cayetano is about to learn his first lesson of not getting the Blue Ribbon Chairmanship as promisesd to him by Manny Villar and paid back for his disloyalty to his electorate so early in the game. Suddenly he’s not the strong outspoken lawyer chasing Truth & Justice but too young! Alan Cayetano your move of self interest was so obviously the wrong move. BTW someone needs to tell you that even when you started using the phrase ‘God Bless You’ it didn’t sound sincere.
My advice would be for you to go back to sit with the true opposition block and once again start to be honest as you are hard working, with no self interest and maybe, maybe the electorate will forgive you in time.

It’s strange about your respect for people, there was a time that only recently before May 14th 2007 I had great respect for Allan Cayetano and Chiz Escudero but now I put them on par with the likes of Zubiri because they are all nodding to the same boss.
Cayetano & Escudero promised the electorrate that they would fight this corrupt administration not join them!
Is it too much to ask that they should be seen to be staying loyal to their electorate just for at least one term!

  17. “Cayetano is still too young for the Blue Ribbon Committee.”

Heheheheheh! What Gloria shit they all try to feed us!

Can he take that wealth to wherever he goes when he leaves this world? I bet he can’t!

    Will Villar surrender?

We all know how Villar played his card, his left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing. He will surrender to the feet of Trapolita, this is his only way for a self- political interest in 2010.He is like that a completely helpless and homeless patient who, trusting the unskilled of an incompetent surgeon, place his life in her hand and quietly submits himself to her knife and lancet.

Let’s now shift our anger to Alan and slap him in the face four times, because he may be compared to the trust given by the hopelessly lost traveler in the wilderness. Which path he choose, is anybody’s guess. Villar and Cayetano have both succumbed to the manipulative processes of more powerful psychopath president who likewise seek to claim lifetime absolute power to be the likes of Noriega,Marcos,Duvalier, Idi Amin and Saddam Hussien.. They have been hoodwinked by their greed.

This is just my opinion about any investigating committee within the sphere of Political Circles. In the U.S. it is still the case, but we can see that mostly their investigating committees are capable of crossing the partisan lines even when investigating politicians wrongdoing itself, we can not say the same in our situation.

We have here in Canada long ago eliminated politicians investigating themselves or any wrongdoings that affect public policies. The Media, the Public and each other parties may expose the other wrongdoings and if there is merit or evidence to the allegations, it is always an Independent Outside Inquiry who will conduct the investigation and report back to the Parliament its finding and recommendation for Aid in Legislation. Any Criminal investigation is for the Police Authorities to initiate. More often this process yields concrete results…

from jd baylon’s column in malaya:

“…..if the Palace exerts pressure on the nine Administration senators to give Villar an ultimatum, I would, were I in his shoes, turn to the “Pimentel 8” and say that I would give up the Senate presidency just to make sure that the Blue Ribbon remains in Opposition hands. I as Villar would have to work with Pimentel to smooth over the feathers that have been ruffled by the not-so-kind words that the separate Opposition blocs have been throwing at each other, and work with Pimentel also to bring in the more independent-leaning votes of Kiko Pangilinan and Pia Cayetano to create a bloc of 14, just to provide some breathing space. But that’s me.

Villar’s desire to keep the Senate presidency aside, this would in fact be an ideal development – and one which the “Pimentel 8″ had been angling for from Day One – because then the Opposition would have no need for the pro-Administration votes to keep and control the key committees……………………..”

    http://www.malaya.com.ph/jul25/edbaylon.htm

if villar would want to prove he is really with the opposition this is his best move to save his face from the spitting of the million voters who trusted their hopes in him believing he is man enough to face the pressure from the witch of the palace.

If we want the truth about gma’s LCS, then I think Lacson is the best man to lead the Blue ribbon committe. He delivered during the Pidal expose. He has the investigative experience and organization too.
I expect and like to know more of gma’s skeletons in the closet and i believe Lacson can do more than the rest.

Regarding Villar, i cant trust him because he plays the game by his own rules. He’s shrewdness in politics put us all always at the disadvantage.

  69. Tiago Tiago

    Mrivera:
Kaso its the other way around kaya sobra ang maniobra. Villar may have been working too hard for his own interest, he may lose focus on important things that are on the table right now. We’ll see.

  70. Spy,

    What’s Gloria’s LCS again please?

  71. Tiago Tiago

    Agree ako Spy;
I can still see Villar and his famous Bicol Express way of impeaching Erap. Poor Erap, he did not know what hit him..

  72. As to Villar’s being shrewed – don’t mind that at all, not in the least provided his shrewdness serves the electorate that put him back in the Senate. He must terminate his loyalty to Malacanang when it comes to what his electorate want him to do; in this case be an all out opposition to Gloria – that’s the basic will of the people who voted him back.

His being a shithead today is a guarantee that he will head a tank of odorous and foul manure if or when he becomes president. With a prospect like that, I say, we kill his chances now!

  73. Chabeli Chabeli

Spy said it well in describing Manny Villar, saying, “..he plays the game by his own rules. He’s shrewdness in politics put us all always at the disadvantage.”

To add, Manny Villar is “saving up” 10B for 2010. One way he is doing this, is by doing an IPO (initial pubic offering) for one of his companies.

  74. Spy,

While I agree and like you “I expect and like to know more of gma’s skeletons in the closet and i believe Lacson can do more than the rest.”, I don’t think that a lone ranger, no matter how brave can fight this uphill battle alone.

Lacson needs a few allies – fellow senators who have the moral courage to go for the kill; unfortunately the current senate set up we’ve got is void of senators with moral courage; what did they do first thing after they got elected by the people on the premise that they would be an ALL OUT OPPOSITION? Traydoran!

Lacson could do it if he had a free Trillanes to back him up and do the work with him. With old timers whose corrupt mentality are as old as they are, i.e., Enrile, Santiago, Joker Arroyo, now joined by the up and coming morally corrupt fellow senators like Villar and soon to be morally dead enders like the young uns under him, Lacson is outnumbered and outgunned. We can’t even count on bumbling along senators to help him with his crusade – bring Jose Pidal to justice, in the likes of Pia Cayetano (there’s one useless senator in my book, Mar Roxas, Pangilinan, and Dick Gordon and now joined by halfway house Zubiri…)

I’m pretty sure that Gloria will field in her son Dato for the senatorial elections in 2010 to be able to block Lacson – Dato’s name is not yet filthy even if he’s an Arroyo (well, at least to our provincial kababayans who are likely to be the recepient of the money that Gloria is hoarding today for 2010 elections) and who knows the daughter will most likely replace Dato in Bicol, while Gloria’s brother in law will probably be a mainstayer in Bacolod, etc.

That’s why, it’s important to help Lacson and I think we can do this by calling on, writing to our Senators to support a move to bring Jose Pidal to justice – I reckon Jose Pidal could be the weakest link in the Arroyo chain. Why? Coz there’s money laundering involved by international standards (OECD) and where there’s money laundering, international pressure could come in but first, Pinoys have got to step on the accelerator to get the trial bandwagon against Pidal going!

  75. harvey harvey

brux, you’re absolutely correct. villar is an ambitious man ! I can’t imagine a wealthy man like him still have the desire to grab not only power & money like her master gloria but all the rights and priveleges of the people who gave trust in him, people who are hopeful for a change in life…

  76. Tiago Tiago

    Anna;
Villar to me is a master when it comes to political maneuverings. He will sleep with anybody just to get what he wants. He’s done that with almost everybody in the political arena and yet the poor people still elect him because he has done it far fom prying eyes. All the backdoor deals will remain in the dark lest those who cut them exposed and shame themselves in public.
Yes, you’re right kill his chances now!

    Adb:

I agree. Lacson needs allies in the senate.

Btw, LCS is lying, cheating and stealing. But im more interested on gma’s cheating and stealing operations. Nevermind the lying. She’s an incorrigible liar anyway.

  78. Spy,

A friend of mine who used to be a major service commander and now serving in Gloria’s ‘kleptocratic’ government called me to wish me happy birthday and we got to talking about Gloria’s kleptocracy.

He got peeved and said (verbatim), “Don’t believe what you read! Gloria is a little fish in terms of stealing compared to all the others” (meaning other presidents).

I told him, “I’m prepared to accept that Gloria may not be personally involved in fleecing and plundering the State coffers but her worse half is doing it and if we are to follow the tenet of command responsibility, she is as guilty as the pig for doing that. Also, kleptocracy comes in two forms, financial and moral…”

Reply: “Well, they all do it anyway…”

I was speechless after that. I thought had he been in front of me, I would have knocked his sockers off!

  79. Does anybody here know what “MONOPOLITY” means?

  80. Re Ellen’s question: Malacañang opposes Cayetano in Blue Ribbon. Will Villar surrender?

I have a suspicion he just might but as Tiago pointed out, he’s pretty shrewed and if he thinks the nation’s pulse is that he doesn’t surrender to Malacanang, malamang bumaliktad uli!

Once a balimbing, always a balimbing!

  81. harvey harvey

  82. And your point is….?

  83. chi chi

    DP and cocoy,

I beg to disagree.

I believe that choices make a man, at nais ko na makita muna ang choices ng mga anak.

  84. chi chi

  85. Chi,

To me, these are difficult and trying times – a man is forced under these circumstances to make a choice and to stand by his choice, whatever that choice is. We have to delineate people with a purpose from those people who want to play it safe, i.e., with no choice at all, preferring to see which way the wind blows. That kind of person to me is not the measure of a man. That person will be swept in by the tide of discontent either way and in the end loses, perhaps not in the pocket front but on the moral front.

We gotta make choices in life to decide that good should combat evil. Those who refuse to make a choice had better not join the war – like in combat, usually people like this tend to distract than construct.

  86. chi chi

Absolutely, Anna. Life is a choice, without it…everything is meaningless. Choice makes a hero or coward out of a person, while neutrality is more than cowardness, scared of making a stand.

The reaso I feel doubtful if Sonny Trillanes will be freed from detention to attend the Senate Sessions is seen by the three mentioned in Anna’s piece opposing this move Enrile, Santiago, Joker Arroyo, who are desperate to keep Ping Lacson and Sonny Trillanes apart simply because of their ability and strength of character as a team to produce, cross examine and submit evidence of corrupt practices.
In m y opinion this is the real acid test for the courts, lets see how sincere the Chief Justice Puno really is to have under his control a truely fair judiciary. Or are his words at the Cagayan De Oro Summit meaningless when he was spouting words of Truth & Justice.

Cassius Clay when he would go jumping around the ring and say, “I’m the greatest, Muhammad Ali!” When it it good, the Poohtah says that’s me, that’s my work, that’s my accomplishment even when it is done by someone else not really for her, but denies it to be hers when the going gets rough. In short, mayabang lang, pero walang ibubuga.

Who says that the idiot is not the worse president the Philippines has ever had? Magaling lang magpalusot! Kunsumisyon!

On the other hand, bakit ba lahat na lang pinakikialam ng ungas? There should be a limit to the function of this idiot who has made the Philippines look like a country where the presidents are not only conceived as robbers and thievers but as the head of some crime syndicates! Yuck!

  112. Apparently, what your friend(?) is missing is that the creep has committed various crimes—cheating in the election, plunder (who says she does not steal? Lahat libre! Masaya siya!), etc.—against the people of the Philippines. The law actually provides for disqualification of a cheater in the election. but the creep cannot be prosecuted because most of the people now sitting at the Department of Justice, courts, etc. are her political appointees and those who are waiting to be benefitted by the rampant looting of the national treasury.

I was actually wanting to join a fact-finding mission to the Philippines with some parliamentarians from Japan up to investigate on the Japanese ODA, but unfortunately, I have this family matter to attend in the USA that I cannot now join the mission even as an official volunteer interpreter. Sayang talaga!

  113. Yuko,

Oh, he knew she was (cheating) but what he said exactly was: “She’s a little fish compared to others.”

(Whether he truly believed it or not, I ain’t certain…)

  114. And yes, he’s still a friend; got many of them serving right under Gloria’s noses.

We argue about Gloria, govt, etc, we trade barbs, we sort of have put a slight distance between us but we are still civil to each other and continue to consider each other ‘friends’ in the most civilized manner.

I refuse to alllow the Gloria issue to drive a wedge between me and my friends even if they currently serve in Gloria’s govt (after all, I knew them long before she grabbed the presidency) – allowing the Gloria issue to break my friendship with my friends would be giving Gloria too much importance and accepting defeat.

Civilization is not always about war; civilization is a balancing act – to do that effectively, it’s important to know when to stop making enemies of people unecessarily.

  115. WWnl,

“They should be made to live under a bridge in a cardboard carton for a week, that would sort them out and bring them into the real world.”

    Agree!

You’ll be amazed but some of the folks I know who serve under Gloria today, that birthday wishing friend included, were not exactly rich when they started. A few of them came from relatively poor families too if one is to believe their stories.

Funny how “wealth” and “power” have a way of causing ‘amnesia’ in people who were once poor.

Ellenville for certain must be drudgery for the host, particularly when pests post.

  118. One thing bad about the Philippine system is that there is no longer the distinction between the real bureaucrats (something thing career diplomat) and the politicians (or political apppointee) unlike in other more progressive countries like UK, Germany and Japan where there is a clear line between the functions of the bureaucrats, who get their positions through national board exams and civil service eligibility, and the politicians, who get to their exalted positions by election. And if you are a bureaucrat, of course, you can say, “So what if the politician is corrupt? I still am bound to serve the people I have taken an oath to serve, and if the politician is really that corrupt, then he should be prosecuted. I am not going to protect him because I am serving in the department he is assigned to as minister for instance.” Ganyan dapat.

Now, if you know a person is corrupt, if you are a good and law-abiding citizen, of course, you should have the sense and should decline serving such corrupt individual. Me?

  119. Anna: Oh, he knew she was (cheating) but what he said exactly was: “She’s a little fish compared to others.”

Gago din ha. Anong sinabi niyang small fish? Bakit hindi ba niya alam na binulsa na ang lahat na mga funds ng gobyerno even before she cheated to become president. Pati nga iyong funds for the OFWs called “OWWA fund” ginamit niya sa election campaign niya, di ba? Kasosyo, of course, si Mr.! Simple logic lang naman ang kailangan. I bet you, nakikinabang din iyong kakilala mo, Anna.

  120. In my case, Anna, I stay away from people who do not share my way of thinking. It’s actually for my peace of mind as I hate getting into useless heated discussions with people who do not believe the same things I do. I stay away from people I cannot and will not tolerate for their crazy beliefs. I find arguing with them as a useless exercise lalo kung for yabang lang! 😛

  121. Good on you, Yuko! Very admirative quality, indeed! Exceptional! Just wonderful!

Btw, I’m glad you adhere to my way of looking at things:
