Letter from BrooksBowerAsia

I don’t know why this letter (dated March 17, 2006) got to me only last week through Mr. Roberto R. Romulo, presidential adviser for international competitiveness.

This was addressed to Malaya editor-in-chief, Mr. Joy de los Reyes. I’m running the letter without comment.

Dear Mr. De los Reyes:

The reporting in the article entitled “Situation alarming, says US think tank,” written by Ms Ellen Tordesillas the March 17, 2006 edition of “Malaya” is alarming, irresponsible and inaccurate. The use of my name in association with totally inaccurate quotes and the statements attributed incorrectly to me and my organization are inexcusable and I ask you immediately correct the record.

The so-called “source” in the article, Ms. Bing Cardenas Branigan (sic), attended a media roundtable session at our offices on March 16, 2006.The statements in your article are assertions that she herself made during the meeting yesterday. Comments attributed to me predicting the President is “finished” and that there might be blood in the streets” are exactly opposite of the points I made yesterday.

It is my view that Constitutional process in the Philippines should be followed to protect democracies and strengthen democratic institutions in the Philippines. By no means do I believe the President is “finished”. Further, I do not believe that “things could get bloody as your irresponsible journalists misstate. It appears that Ms. Branigan may have shared her own views with Ms. Tordesillas, and that these were then attributed either directly or by implication to me and my company. For instance, it was Ms. Branigan who brought up the name of Senator Mar Roxas as a presidential option – not me or anyone in my organization.

I demand an immediate correction and an apology for being misquoted and mistreated by Ms. Branigan, your “source” and Ms. Tordesillas, the author of the article. Putting words into people’s mouth is no way to run a newspaper. I await your apology.

Sincerely,
Ernest Z. Bower
Partner

The delay in said communications might be due to waiting for an imprimatur from Gloria. She is now daughter of god (DOG) playing god by making decisions of life or death among inmates. Ernest Z. Bower is prudent and wise to recognize DOG.

Who is this Ernest Bower? Sana hindi siya katulad ni gloria…sinungaling!!!

  3. Who is Ernest Bower? You can check out his website here. Here is an April 6 quote by him in a South China Morning Post article – like Ellen, I present it without comment!

[speaking of the Philippines] “The only thing standing between muddling along and a bright future is the confidence of its people.”

Hmmm … it’s really hard not to comment.

Yeah, it’s weird. Bakit ngayon lang ito ibinigay sa iyo ni Romulo, almost one month after the letter was written?
