Fil Chinese community slams ‘racist’ remarks of Apostol

From ABS-CBN:

The Filipino Chinese community slammed the remarks made by a top Palace official Friday on Rodolfo “Jun” Lozada Jr. after the resource person testified in the Senate hearing on the investigation of the controversial national broadband deal between the government and China’s ZTE Corp.

“He is a crying witness like a crying lady. Di ba sabi niya ‘probinsyanong Iintsik?’ Intsik pala siya eh. Kung ako ipapa-deport ko na ‘yan. Magulo ka dito,” said chief presidential legal adviser Sergio Apostol.

(He is a crying witness like a crying lady. Did he not say he is a Chinese from the provinces? So he’s a Chinese. If it were for me I’ll have him deported. He’s unruly here.)

Teresita Ang See, Citizens’’ Action Against Crime spokesperson and also of Kaisa Para sa Kaunlaran, said in a text message sent to media that Apostol’s comments were “racist and uncalled for”.

Instead of facing the issues raised by Lozada, Ang See said Apostol was working to “deliberately divert our attention by making this racist tirade.”

Ang See said she received numerous text messages condemning the remarks of Apostol.

“He should work to exile corrupt public servants instead and fill up the Philippines with upright people regardless of ethnic origins that’s the only way our country can truly be great again,” said Ang See in her text message.

The recognized anti-crime crusader said that Lozada should instead be recognized.

All of us Filipinos take pride in having a Jun Lozada in our midst. For Tsinoys especially who often prefer to be bystanders, we salute him for standing up for what is right,” said Ang See.

Lozada who testified as a key witness in the allegedly overpriced deal with China’s ZTE Corp., described himself as a simple person with simple needs who was thrown into government service by accident.

Testifying before the Senate inquiry on the scrapped multi-million project, Lozada described himself as a “probinsyano.”

“I don’t have any social pedigree like Joey de Venecia [III],” Lozada said of de Venecia, also a key witness, during the grilling of members of the Senate Blue Ribbon committee investigating into the anomalous NBN deal.

De Venecia, son of ousted House Speaker Jose De Venecia Jr., is the whistle-blower in the NBN-ZTE deal.

Lozada told senators that he was just a private individual before entering into government owned- Philippine Forest Corp. (PFC).

The Tsinoy Community’s reaction through Teresita Ang-See come at the right time. China is now investigating the ZTE deal on her own. Chinese diplomats were reportedly to be frequenting the DOJ office before Lozada’s testimony at the Senate hearing. Naaalarma na ang Tsina. The World Olympic is about to commence, and China doesn’t want to have this kind of negative publicity. On the other hand, galit na din ang US dahil imbes na napunta sa American company ang deal, kamuntik nang napunta sa China kung hindi na-cancel ang project. GMA government cannot afford to displease the two giants, US and China at this time. The Church despite her silence is also uneasy. The Tsinoy Community and Makati businessmen are uneasy. The military is restless especially after learning that part of the funds were diverted to the ZTE bribery.

First, you had Miriam followed by Sergio and who’s going to be next?

Absolutely no shame! You took their money and then you spit on their faces!

    To the Filipino-Chinese community:

I sincerely apologize on behalf of the Filipino people!

Miriam and Apostol are unauthorized representatives of the Filipino community!

    God Bless especially the misguided!

  4. balweg balweg

  6. Pu)à_é)é_-)_)é_nang Apostol — dapat diyan itahi ang bunganga!

We all should join with Ms. Ang See and her group..against this remark of Apostol..marami sa atin ay may Chinese blood..and for him to say this when we just celebrated the Chinese New Year..what a rat ang asong ito!

  8. rose rose

Maiba ako..na mention si Mike Defensor sa testimony ni Lozada at I got the impression na they are friends..hindi ba ito ang kapatid ni Brenda?

  9. chi chi

  10. Well, to imitate the scenario, Apostol spoke like some 90-year-old senile grandfather who blabs anything that just pops in his mind and then chases his grandchildren with a tungkod. Seriously. He was careless.

This just added more insults to the injured so-called president to have people like him around her. And oh, did he just said the right words at the right time? Remarkably, he insulted the race whom they nearly looted billions of pesos for a crooked broadband deal. Lolz.

Re: Enrile and Brenda- why they are defending GMA.
..si Brenda is eyeing to be in the International Tribunal Court..thus sipsip talaga siya sa buli ng kanyan kuhol (snail)..isn’t this what we do pag kumain ng snails..
..si Enrile..I guess it is his way of thanking GMA for sending his ex wife a distance from him in the Phil.

Teresita Ang-See represents the Binondo Chinese Community. When she speaks, so does the Tsinoy. As a lawyer, Apostol must know what he’s talking about. How could you deport someone who was born in the Philippines? Lozada was born in the Philippines. Apostol used to be the Quezon City Fiscal during the time of Marcos. Tuta iyan ni Imelda noon.

  13. Brownberry Brownberry

Rose, interesting to watch is Joker Arroyo and Gordon if they appear at the next hearing. Teka, bakit wala sina Lito Lapid at Bong Revilla…dalawa sa pinakabulakbulerong senador? Speaking of Miriam, let’s all remember her in the future election. Huwag natin siyang iboto kahit na Barangay Chairwoman.

  14. balweg balweg

  15. balweg balweg

Kgg. Brownberry, do you think na may boboto pa kay Miriam? Di ako mapalagay, WALA na!

Apostol? I don’t see him as an apostle who believes in God and obeys His commandments..Apostol siya ni goria kaya what can we expect?
neil: na dulas nga ang dila niya..he is full of wet-ness..
basang basa na siya sa mabahong tubig ng ilog…pero when I come to think of it..the Holy Spirit guided his tongue and the words came out without his knowing it…na Pentecost siya and he spoke in tongues..the mystery of our faith.!

Racial slurs are caused by ignorant & uneducated people. We possibly can’t think highly of Apostol, can we ? I am appalled at his racial slur !

  21. xanadu xanadu

  22. cocoy cocoy

Racial slurs is not acceptable to human race. All persons are equal above the law not unless the country is under banana republic and run by a monkey.

Dapat d’yan ay i people’s power sa puwesto niya dahil awan ti mabista nga modo.Tungaw!

i read a book on why the Philippine economy is as it is now – why the existing power structure as well as business practices are as it is now – and lo and behold – we have the influence of the Chinese to thank for it.

The Chinese never did really share their earnings / blessings with us Filipinos. They simply whisked it out of the country and back to their homeland – or kept it strictly within the family. The Chinese simply traded with us but did not facilitate the transfer of technology. Whatever innovations they did – they kept within the Chinese community. – so the book claims. I find credence in the book’s claim. I will post the title and author of the book once i find it again in my collection (sorry – i forgot na since it was some time since i read it).

take the case of SM for example.

of the thousands of sales ladies at SM – there is not one sales lady that is a regular employee. they are all contractual – and are asked to take a vacation of 1 month when they have reached the 5th month of their employment. this will break their employment record so that they cannot be regularized. these sales ladies far outnumbers all other employees at SM. so after the 1 month vacation of the pobreng sales lady – she has to REAPPLY at SM. this to me is unacceptable.

anyone who has done business with the Chinese will immediately notice the discrimination they have towards us. Some did not even bother to learn our language.

that is why i am not particularly fond of the Tsinoys.

As a matter of fact they should not be referred to as part Filipino but be referred to as Chinese – since they were never really one of us Filipinos.

absence of reason makes man a beast.

Golly, pati itsura niya kamukha noong character sa Evita when she was delivering her speech to the Argentinians on the veranda of the presidential palace, pati hairdo! Kulang na lang kumanta siya ng “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina!” 😛

So what would you do to those whose ancestors of long ago were Chinese, have no affection to China, don’t even know how to speak Chinese (except a smattering of few Cantonese, Mandarin, or Hakka) but speak much better Pilipino than any of us here, and love to stay in the Philippines, no matter what the consequences?

  38. Statement of Sen. Mar Roxas:Apostol should say sorry for racist slur

Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Sergio Apostol should promptly apologize to the entire Filipino public especially to the Filipino-Chinese community that has been shamed by his “racist remark,” .

“He should also offer an apology to the Chinese people, who have suffered an insult despite their deep friendship with the Filipino people.”

“We find it totally ironic that the President’s lawyer has made a racist slur against the very nation from whom this government has sought to borrow millions of dollars that have been purloined by rotten officials.”

“It was absolutely uncalled for, and showed great contempt for Filipinos with Chinese blood, including our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.

“Resorting to insults now will not make Lozada’s testimony less credible. The more they try to discredit Lozada, the more they appear desperate.

“Let us stick to the light, as the nuns said, by being forthright and honest.”

it is true that profits are what drives a business.

however – a business also entails SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
this is the tradeoff for paying NET income tax.

whereas most of us pays taxes based on gross pay, businesses are taxed based on net income.

the business must also contribute to the community and the society it belongs to.

so you see – contrary to your view, businessmen are not really free to do as they like. they have responsibilities to the community as well.

Yes of course! we have Labor Codes but,In an ordinary employer-employee relationship, there are only two parties involved – the employer and the employee. This relationship is established which the employer; Directly exercises control and supervision over the employee not only as to the results of the work but also as to the means employed to attain this result; Has the power to select and hire the employee; Has the obligation to pay the employees his or her wages and other benefits.

If you want to talk about taxation, compensations, hiring, termination, harrasment and abuse and discrimination ay mahabang talakayan iyan.

depositing money in a bank is a common practice.

interest deposits in banks range from 1 – 3%. lucky ka na pag 3% abutin mo. usuall 1 to 2%.

a businessmen can get as much as 20% – 30% earnings for their money through plowing it in their businesses.

as time passes by, the value of the depositor’s money diminishes (due to inflation). at the same time their earning capacity (from employment) also decreases with age. as people age – their expenses increase because of the cost of medication to cope with old age.

that is why most businessmen are rich and most bank depositors end up broke.

    kgg Cocoy,

yes, the labor code provides protection for those employed. it provides the framework of the relationship between the employer and employee.

even within this framework, the employer has the responsibility to foster the personal and professional development of his employees.

what you also fail to realize is a business has a responsibility to contribute to the betterment of the community it belongs to. that is the social responsibility i am talking about.

take a look at Mc Donalds. They have their charities. ABS CBN has its gawad kalinga. organizations that intends to give back to the community something in return for the “good business” given them.

there are many businesses that fail to take this into consideration.
