Gathering of democracy icons

anwar-with-cory-and-erap.jpg

Former President Joseph Estrada
hosted a dinner for Malaysian former Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datin Seri Wan Azizah, and former President Cory Aquino Friday.

Following is the account of Estrada spokesperson Margaux Salcedo:

Ibrahim arrived at 7 p.m. sharp at Estrada’s residence at #1 Polk Street, North Greenhills. He was accompanied by his wife, Opposition Leader and Member of Parliament Datin Seri Wan Azizah.

The couple were personally greeted by Estrada and Cory Aquino, who had arrived earlier with her son Senator Noynoy Aquino, and by former cabinet members of the Estrada administration who had met Anwar in the past, including Sec. Jose Pardo and Sec. Ben Diokno.

“This is a coming together of icons of democracy,” Estrada said.

Mrs. Aquino was looking quite strong and was in very jovial spirits.

It was the frist meeting of Anwar and Estrada since they both got out of prison. “This is important to me because he is more than a friend to me, he is like family,” Anwar said of Estrada. Asked what he liked most about Estrada, Anwar said, “It is his passion for the poor that amazes me the most. I really see his sincerity in trying to uplift the plight of the masses.” Estrada returned the compliment, saying that Anwar was “not only brilliant but also sincere.”

Azizah said this meeting is important to them because they had been wanting to visit former President Estrada wanted he was incarcerated but they were not allowed by the government to do so.

Dinner was an elaborate fine dining experience catered by French Corner Chef Billy King but the mood was very casual and pleasant. The dinner included lamb, roast beef, sea bass and lobster. This was followed by an evening of song where Estrada sang traditional Filipino songs to the delight of the Malaysians.

Earlier in the afternoon, Anwar spoke at a forum in RCBC auditorium organized by the De La Salle College of Business and Economics, Ramon V del Rosario Sr. Graduate School of Business and Asian Institute of Democracy.

Here’s the story of Inquirer’s Tarra Quismundo and Norman Bordadora:

Anwar urges Malaysia not to pull out peace monitors

Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim on Friday called on the Malaysian government to resume its engagement in the International Monitoring Team (IMT) that keeps watch over the ceasefire agreement between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

At a forum in Makati City, Anwar, former Malaysian deputy prime minister, said the Malaysian participation in the IMT had proved effective in keeping both sides calm as they continued to talk peace.

“The saying that they can fight fire with fire is not true in this regard. That is why we in the opposition have come out very strongly to call on the Malaysian government to resume its participation in the peace monitoring team in Mindanao,” Anwar told an audience of students, professors and diplomats at the RCBC Plaza in Makati City on Friday.

Kuala Lumpur is set to complete a total pullout of its monitoring team from Mindanao by September.

Anwar said the Malaysian government could express “strong views to Manila” so long as it re-engages in the “multilateral effort to reduce skirmishes in the region.”

“It has been proven that the team has helped, and it is unfortunate [for Malaysia] to ignore that importance and therefore withdraw,” Anwar said.

Anwar, who is here for a two-day visit, was guest speaker at a forum on Islam and peace organized by De La Salle University Graduate School of Business.

On Thursday night, former Speaker Jose de Venecia hosted a dinner for him at the Pangasinan lawmaker’s residence in Makati City.

The dinner was attended by former President Fidel Ramos, Senate President Manuel Villar and former National Security Adviser Jose Almonte.

Also present were De Venecia’s wife, Gina, Ibrahim’s wife, Azizah, and Villar’s spouse, Las Piñas Rep. Cynthia Villar, as well as some foreign diplomats and civil society members.

De Venecia said he, Ibrahim and Villar agreed to press for a “global Christian-Muslim and interreligious dialogue” to help resolve the political and religious conflicts in many parts of the world and to call for the focusing of Asian resources on making possible the massive production of rice.

Ibrahim and De Venecia praised Saudi King Abdullah and Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Iran’s former president, for the ongoing meeting of Sunni and Shiite leaders in Mecca.

The dialogue, they said, could represent a “religious breakthrough and set an example for beleaguered nations like Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon and Palestine that are plagued by deadly fighting among Sunnis and Shiites, the two rival camps within Islam.”

De Venecia said those present at the dinner also agreed to join forces in calling for the passage of an Asia-wide legislation that would seek to have governments provide state subsidies to political parties to stop or reduce political corruption and “money politics,” and prevent traffickers of illegal drugs from financing political candidates who endanger good governance.

They further agreed that Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia and South Asia should develop a disaster response capability, backed by funding and manpower and working with the United Nations, to undertake emergency missions such as the massive relief operations following the earthquake in China that killed over 80,000 and rendered more than two million homeless.

De Venecia had earlier presented these proposals at the International Conference of Asian Political Parties, the Asian Parliamentary Assembly and the Asean Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.

Here’s the report of Agence France Presse

Malaysia’s Anwar says ‘multi-racial’ opposition emerging

Malaysia’s opposition figurehead Anwar Ibrahim said Friday that a “multi-racial, multi-religious” opposition was emerging in his country for the first time to challenge the ruling party.

The 60-year-old former deputy prime minister said many Malaysians of all races and religions were “sick and tired of corruption, of the destruction of the judiciary.”

There is a “multi-racial, multi-religious cohesion of emerging forces in Malaysia which is clamoring for change,” Anwar told an academic forum in the Philippines.

Recently there have been growing fears over “Islamization” of Malaysia and the increasing polarization of the three main ethnic communities.

About 60 percent of Malaysia’s 27 million people are ethnic Malay Muslims. The country’s minority Chinese and Indians are mostly Buddhists, Hindus or Christians.

Anwar, once heir-apparent to long-time former premier Mahathir Mohamad, spent six years in jail on sex and corruption charges, but now leads a resurgent opposition.

Before meeting Erap and Cory, Anwar first met JDV and FVR. FVR was not on the short list Anwar was supposed to meet. Well, if JDV was there so was FVR. Anwar was expected to meet the opposition personalities only and FVR certainly was not among them. Anyway, Anwar’s visit was primarily to visit Erap. Malacanang was silent on Anwar’s visit. Apparently, Anwar snubbed GMA. It would have been a huge publicity for Malacanang if Anwar also visited GMA. But why would he when it was GMA who disallowed him to visit Erap in his Tanay detention cell last time.

why is Estrada back in public? he went to jail because he was guilty. period. an actor cannot manage our country. During his term ,our country needed someone with actual management, finance and real world experience on how to generate employment, reduce our debt service, improve and increase budget to social services and revised constitutional codes that is in line with our economic needs. how can an actor understand and negotiate financial terms if he himself don’t have a degree in finance and have not really managed an actual GDP data and other statistical data? popularity is not what our country needs. We need real intelligent people with education, experience and global sense combine.
Erap was slow just like our current president. GMA is an economist and yet she couldn’t predict the risk of rising oil prices, rice prises and even implementing the real meaning of rule of law….
Philippines wake up…. I believe we need to change the politicians. Our attitude is always positive except these politicians remain to think that the majority of our people can be bought and can be brided. Let’s keep blogging the right message to them and hopefully they will become the civilized leaders we have been expecting them to be.If they are our leaders paid with our taxes money, therefore they should perform for the benefits of the people. we expect quality service from them if not… they should remove themselves from office. nakakahiya.

  3. bitchevil bitchevil

Why is Erap back in public? Because he’s a free citizen. Pardoned or not was not the issue. He’s now free and that’s what matters. Erap never says he’s a saint or the most clean leader. Even way back as a Mayor, he was openly into vices like drinking and womanizing. Yet, people accepted him as what he was. Millions of people voted for him as a Mayor, Senator, Vice President and President. Tell me if there’s any RP leader who you can claim to be clean and sinless. Even Cory Aquino allowed his brother Peping to engage in corruption. Anwar not only came to visit Erap as a former leader but most especially as a good friend of Erap. Why take away this privilege from the man?
The two share so many things in common. Whether you like it or not, Erap shall remain a big figure in politics and a symbol of the opposition. Among those in the opposition, it is Erap which Malacanang fears most. If election were to be made today, Erap will win landslide against GMA, FVR or any of the candidates as long as there’s no cheating. Give Erap a break and let him serve the Filipino people for the rest of his life in any capacity.

  4. asiandelight asiandelight

    bitchevil,

then it’s either you support corruption or you condemn it. Erap and the rest are so highly corrupt. of course, he is free as an individual but he never freed our people except abuse of power by using his personality traits that do not fit to the actual job description.

as i said, an actor cannot generate employment. he is only good in marketing to win. he is also good on how to free himself from jail. that’s really his story.

there are only a few of you and you start fighting. That is not good. It like bamboo , the more bundle together the stronger.

  6. bitchevil bitchevil

You sure are anti-Erap. I’m not pro-Erap but I accept one’s good points as well as bad points. To say that Erap is highly corrupt is unfair. No one can beat GMA when it comes to being the most corrupt.

Kwin Korap Gloria is green with envy, hindi siya kalaro ng mga sikat!

  8. You bet, inggit na inggit si Pandak. Hindi lang nga ma-blacklist si Anwar for some reason.

  9. Hehehehe!

By the way, I think most of you know who actor Rudy Fernandez is. He passed away early Saturday morning due to cancer. Let’s all pray for his soul. Rudy was very much part of the opposition.

According to my grandfather the only Philippine President that is not corrupt is Ramon Magsaysay. He was truly beloved by the people.

President Ramon Magsaysay and his entourage, including his wife, visited a man before his trip to Leyte and Cebu to deliver a graduation speech. The man told him not to go on that particular trip because he will not be able to come back anymore. Unfortunately, he did not listen to advise of the man so coming back to Manila he did not make it, the plane crashed. The wife of President Magsaysay went back to this man asking him to raise Pres. Magsaysay from the dead. The man told him that he is not God to raise him from the dead. This is a fact, and the family of Pres. Ramon Magsaysay and their immediate relatives knows what I am talking about.

  17. dandaw dandaw

Nestor Mata was in that same plane crushed with Magsaysay. I visited Nestor in V. Luna Hospital, who would ever think he would survive, he looked like a lechon at that time. God bless you Nestor.

  18. bitchevil bitchevil

Sioktong, Pres. Ramon Magsaysay was corrupt too…he was corrupted by the Americans. He was a CIA.

  19. sioktong sioktong

bitchevil, how did you know he was a CIA?

    asiandelight,

This is the problem with the civil society’s mentality like you. They have never accepted Erap who is just an ‘actor’ and a college dropout who succeeded in his political life by becoming the President of the Republic. This is Filipino Crab Mentality at its finest.

Whatever you say, Erap was a better President than the one that the civil society installed-GMA. During Erap’s time, economy was recovering already after taking over from the super corrupt FVR and having gone through the asian crisis. The kidnappings and other crimes where eliminated, the MILF was neutralized, food security was prioritized (which would have prevented the rice crisis), etc.. Erap was the only Philippine President of recent times not to allow sovereign guarantee on big projects. From Marcos, Cory, FVR and GMA, all of them signed contracts which had government guarantee. It was during Erap’s time through the Obuchi fund that major infra projects where started but which GMA the bitch is now claiming to be hers. These are: Clark-Subic Expressway, Davao International Airport, New airports in Iloilo, Bacolod, etc…

Plus more than anything, it was Erap who gave preferential attention to the poor, it was during his time that the masa was given importance.

If you just open your eyes, and be honest enough, you will realize that Erap was not entirely bad after all. He may have his flaws and admitted his mistakes, but he has done a lot of good specially to the masa. He was just not given the break by the elite of the society. Two and a half years is too short to be able to make an impact.

It was just Cardinal Sin, Cory and her civil society, the middle class, media and the corrupt military officials who conspired with GMA to oust him because he was never accepted by the elite of the society.

Obviously you, asiandelight are part of this bunch. This is indeed crab mentality in full display.

  21. Sioktong,
Si Gen.Benito Ebuen ang piloto ng nag-crushed ang eroplano from Candelaria,Zambales, very close relative of my lolo.

Magsaysay don’t have a lot of bodyguard,he drive his own owner type jeep.He was not involve in any graft and corruption. My wife grandfather from Zambales was appointed by Magsaysay the first Mayor in Lanao.

  22. Correction lang.My Blog is Cocoy’s Delight.Whoever asiandelight is,I don’t know him.

Si Reagan ay grade B actor din but Americans regard him as a better president than many of the past US presidents.

  28. bitchevil bitchevil

Sioktong, Magsaysay was placed by the US-CIA as RP President.
We don’t dispute his being a nationalistic and pro-poor but he was identified with the CIA. How did I know? I hope I could share with you some old intelligence reports…

  29. Chi,

Very late at night na here already…night night muna.

“No one can beat GMA when it comes to being the most corrupt.”

that I will agree with you.

  33. andres andres

    asiandelight,

In that case, the civil society, the clergy, the media and Erap-bashers like you are just as guilty by installing the most corrupt President in the history.

Had you just allow the legitimately elected president to finish his term, i don’t think our country would be in this situation which is the worst in our history.

    Vox Populi, Vox Dei.

  34. asiandelight asiandelight

hey pips, why me… I am also anti gloria . my mentality is mostly like yours. we are all filipinos. are you kidding me? to Andres: thanks for explaining Erap side. I respect that. You explain it well but of course every President has its own advantage and disadvantage, the point is corruption is getting worst. it’s alwayas been that way. so who do you think we should vote to replace ni pandak…
please don’t get me wrong… just testing the members of this blog… oh now IC.. the heat against Gloria is getting stronger. keep it up. LOL

But here’s what i’m concerned. I couldn’t find the article written by Manolo L. Quezon III. Towards the end it says:

““But it’s safe to say she will do none of these things, because she is not a leader gifted with imagination. She isn’t unique in preferring a sure thing over a gamble; but her inability to grasp the motive power of the imagination, truly sets her apart from all her predecessors. It is the reason she hasn’t found a way to vanquish her critics, she can only keep them at bay.”

but what happen to the article titled.. Eight is Enough. Does anyone know?

  35. Bitchdevil: We don’t dispute his being a nationalistic and pro-poor but he was identified with the CIA. How did I know?
    ******

It’s actually public knowledge now. I remember my professors at UP talking about his serving the US in fact more than the Philippines!!!

As for the corruption, at least, we did not hear of him bribing people to get their loyalty. It was more like the other way around as when he proved loyal to America, but was it better?

He lost to Macapagal in the election in the 60’s because he tried hard to implement austerity that lessened the extra earnings of crooks in the Philippine government, and some First Filipino Policy that the Americans most of all did not like. Sayang! Sana tumino na sana ang Pilipinas!

  37. asiandelight asiandelight

    andres,

you’re funny.i did not “install” the most corrupt president. are you talking to Gloria? OMG.. why don’t we publish something like: The ten most corrupt President of the Philippine Republic?
    1. Gloria macapagal
    2
    and next… sige na

  38. bitchevil bitchevil

Thanks grizzy. I hope your agreement answers sioktong’s query. I did say Magsaysay was corrupted by the Americans. Corruption comes in many kinds not just money. Magsaysay was indeed loyal to the Americans who placed him as President. He followed the dictates of the Americans. But who RP President did not follow the dictate of America? I think all but a few rebelled that caused their ouster or defeat in election. Marcos was dictated by the Americans for several years until he gradually broke lose. But it proved to be costly…1986 Edsa. Erap was never liked by the Americans but this guy’s victory margin was too much to manipulate…and we had the Second Edsa.

  39. Truth is people of Magsaysay’s generation have a loyalty that mixes the USA with the Philippines, pero mas malakas doon sa America. 😛

  40. Marami rin tsismis tungkol doon sa Misis, but we’ll leave it at that. May she rest in peace. Diyos na ang bahala sa kanila!

Here in Singapore, i watched a play (a one-man comedy by Hosean Leong) where one of the characters he played was Erap. From his portrayal, it is clear that he is viewed as an icon of democracy. (In that play, the Erap character promised the Filipina maids working in Singapore a ‘parachute’ which is a reference to the periodically reported incidents of maids falling off high rise apartments when they clean their windows.) I definitely can accept Erap as an icon of democracy, just as i accept that he is corrupt.

Grizzy, i remember my Dad (who is now 90) telling me that Garcia was also corrupt.

  43. Sioktong,

  44. bitchevil bitchevil

But who sabotaged the plane? Who killed Magsaysay? Could it be the CIA? CIA was and still is the most notorious intelligence agency in the world. They would eliminate anyone and anytime.

  45. Sioktong,
Hehehehe!

Hahaha! di pa ata ipinanganak si Col. Querubin non ah.

Bakit naman papatayin ng CIA si Pres. Magsaysay eh sabi nyo loyal sya sa US kesa sa Pinas?

In fairness, si Erap ay talagang makamasa. The elite did not like that because they want better profit margins and a business friendlier president so they got the evil bitch! Ngayon ang mga mahihirap ay lalong naghihirap so the evil bitch wants to be “ala-Erap”. She is now the Robinhood kuno. She robs everybody and gives it to the poor. Erap may not be highly educated but he has a knack for serving the country. But he did not know how to bribe everyone around him like the way the evil bitch does so the Judases around him sold him!

I am not in favor of putting Erap back in power though. I just like him to be a uniting figure of the opposition.

  52. parasabayan parasabayan

A get together of ex-leaders is always a good sight. One way or the other, they may not have been perfect but each of the above leaders had in one way or the other served their constituents and had given themselves to the service of their countries. They are a good source of wisdom for the next national leaders.

    Tilamsik,

Almost all the Presidents have their own flaws and mistakes. Even the Saintly Cory Aquino had her kamag-anak incorporated who took advantage of her position and in fact looted the treasures of Malacanang when Marcos was kicked out. FVR, one of the most corrupt Presidents who frequents Zurich, Switzerland for seminars? Obviously not! But to manage his loot from Fort Bonifacio deal, Petron, National Steel Corporation, PEA-AMARI, Clark Centennial scam, etc….

Now tell me Tilamsik, is it only Erap who is a mandarambong???

  55. andres andres

Even Erap for that matter had his own ‘baggages’, friends and family who took advantage, like Jinggoy, Laarni, Lucio Co, Manny Pangilinan, Atong Ang, etc…

Nobody is perfect, but Erap really gave love and preferential attention to the Masses.

  56. Tilamsik Tilamsik

  57. CVJ,

Philippine politics is really dirty. There were a lot of corruptions even from the time the Philippines got its independence. I was in grade school when Garcia became president, to be exact Grade 2, but my father encouraged us to love reading, even brought a lot of US magazines for us to read, my favorite being “MAD.” We also has a daily subscription to then Manila Times.

Yes, they talked of all those corruptions, even how most of the money paid to the Philippines as war reparations was almost gone by the time Magsaysay died, and his successor inheriting all the problems of graft and corruption in his government. The common talk then in fact was that he was too dumb to notice that people were draining the coffers right under his nose.

BTW, at that time, my uncle was the National Treasurer but he was far from being corrupt. Naghihintay lang ng iaabot sa kaniya that I don’t think he would dare reject.

No, I don’t think Garcia was really that corrupt. Nakakabale din siguro but not that much because there was really nothing much to steal at that time. That was why he instituted “austerity” and other measures to alleviate the nation’s problems. Hindi siya nakabahay for instance sa Forbes unlike his successor!!!

One has to be a saint I guess to be free of graft and corruption in the Philippines lalo na pabalik-balik lang iyong mga kurakot. 😛

  58. One thing that no one can deny is Erap’s sincere concern for the poor. That’s good reason enough I guess why he could not feel any guilt accepting donations from jueteng lords like Chavit Singson to give to the poor.

Sabi nga nila, “Galit ang magnanakaw sa kapwa magnanakaw” although I doubt if Erap did any stealing of public funds, because the coffers were almost empty when he succeeded FVR, wala pa halos gustong magpa-utang sa kaniya because of the black propaganda that he was no different from Marcos.

  64. In 2005, my American bosses required us to call at least a few Iranian clients daily not just to sell our mutual fund and stocks but to campaign and convince the Iranian elite that Rafsanjani was the better candidate not only for Iran’s sake but for the whole world! (I am now violating my 5-year non-disclosure contract, hehehe.)

Based on what Ahmedinejad is doing to Iran today, I now see the wisdom in the US’ support of Rafsanjani in the 2005 elections which he lost. Ahmedinejad is not only a lunatic with a nuclear arsenal but also one who would actually unleash it if and when he chooses to engage the Americans in a full-blown war.

  66. I know this is off-topic but how do you guys look at the dressing-down Enrile, Miriam and Joker gave to the Joint Foreign Chambers? I am biased in favor of the businessmen (as always) and most especially since I know Hubert D’Aboville personally, and he’s the biggest victim of Enrile’s verbal abuse. I just want to know your reactions.

  67. nelbar,

    Asiandelight,
you are very unfair for saying that all actors can not serve the country. You should not judge and generalize people according to their present job or career. Nasa tao yan. Baka ikaw, ganun din that’s why you are good in being judgemental and unfair. Presidents should be good managers and good implementors with a heart for his country and his people, that is why we hire and pay for advisers who are experts in their respective fields.

  69. parasabayan parasabayan

Would Enrile do anything that the evil bitch has not asked him to do? What else is new? The evil bitch is preparing for a complete takeover not only in the judicial system, the congress and now the businesses as well.

  70. PSB:

You mentioned Enrile. For what he has been doing lately, I’m beginning to believe that he must be in the early stage of dementia. My God, how he berated the foreign investors who were complaining about the lousy way the Dorobo treats them. Dapat pa nga mag-apologize pa si Enrile sa kanila sa totoo lang, not the other way around.

Just because he is sure that the Chinese can take over all the investments in the Philippines, I find it idiotic of him to be telling them that if they do not like the policies in the Philippines, they are free to go? Di ba niya alam na ang concessions supposedly given to these investors kakabit doon sa pinag-uutang ni Gloria. Ano iyan? Plano ni Gloria to evade payments of the loans she has incurred in the name of the Filipino people here and there? Abaw, masaya sila! Grrrrrrrrr! Ang sarap magmura!

Kaya ako, as much as possible, hindi ko nirerekomenda ang Pilipinas sa mga kaibigan namin ng Mister ko. Nakakatakot kasi. Ang daming mandarambong! And with a dorobo at the helm, lalo pa yatang dumami!

  71. asiandelight asiandelight

    obedient,

ikaw talaga.. oo naman..but you cannot change my opinion and it is not for everybody. my point is… if I give ERAP 10 projected income statements on Philippine projects in the area of social services, do you think he can really comprehend. No wonder projects are easily corrupted because basic understanding has never been his foundation nor his experience. An advisor may work but it opens more room for corruption.
Obedient ha… basta.. online friends na tayo..

  72. obedient: you are very unfair for saying that all actors can not serve the country.
    *****

Sinabi mo pa. Sobra namang pagkamatapobre ng mga pilipino to be looking down on actors and actresses. Tignan mo nga si Angelina Jolie. This lady does not have high fallutin degrees–high school lang and some actors’ training–but she has performed much better than those with formal training in diplomacy for what she is doing for the UN.

There are lots of them serving in the government as a matter of fact in foreign countries and do/did well as in the case of the former Cultural Minister of Greece, the late Melina Mercouri. She did her country well as a matter of fact, and she was an actress.

For what he did during his lifetime, mas magaling pa siguro ang performance niya kesa doon sa mga kurakot na may mga diploma kuno, especially iyong nagkaroon naman ng mga degree kuno through some diploma mill!!! Taragis nakakakuha nga ng doctorate for a fee!!! No bilib ako!!! Magaling lang mamintas!!!

  75. Tongue, what enrile and santiago did to the JFC was unfair. But then, it’s good that it happened. Now the foreign investors know first hand the viciousness of this administration.

I can imagine the report that they will make to their mother companies.

    # asiandelight Says:

just by looking at the picture on this page; I know that statement is not true.
two of those in the picture had been incarcerated … and two had/has husbands who were.
newspapers / documentaries tell me that people had been jailed for decades and some were even executed but they were later proven to be innocent.

  79. bitchevil bitchevil

Isn’t it obvious that it was the three Malacanang attack dogs in the Senate (Santiago, Enrile, Joker) who attacked the Foreign Investors? I’m sure the order came from Malacanang. I hope those foreigners realized that…

  80. parasabayan parasabayan

Asiandelight, I beg to disagree with you on “ang tao hindi makulong kung hindi guilty”. Political prisoners are just that. These people are judged based on the whims of those in power. Almost always, the laws of the land are not even followed to give the semblance of guilt. Erap may have abused his position but look who is sitting now? Erap’s sins are so minute and negligible if compared to the evil bitch who continues to violate the laws almost everyday. Yet, this criminal is not behind bars!

  81. parasabayan parasabayan

If the other legislators do not see the obvious motive of the “humiliation” campaign, talagang malaki ang problema ng Pilipinas. Kanya kanyang mga padrino ang labas.

  82. The Frenchman Hubert D’Aboville is a long-time competitor but an honorable one. He and brother Guilleaume own Paris-Manila Technologies along Edsa between Boni and Guadalupe. Hubert is probably more Filipino than many of us here after 3 decades of living in the country, having a Filipina wife, speaking fluently in Tagalog, and probably the only person in the world that would dunk his pandesal in French wine.

An expert in the electrical industry, what he says about “Many of the unwarranted accusations being raised by legislators and GOCCs appear to be questioning bedrock principles that are sound and, in fact, practiced by many progressive power industries around the world” is founded on his personal knowledge and long years of experience of the industry and being president of the whole European Chambers, his words are definitely more credible than those of Enrile, Miriam and Joker or the whole Energy Committee put together.

Sure, it is his business to protect European investments in the power industry, the French’s more specifically, among them, the Alsthom-built IPP plant (now being sold by Mirant)in Sual, Pangasinan. Alsthom is France’s power frontrunner as Siemens is Germany’s, the Swedes have ABB, while US has GE. But no one can fault them for lobbying with Gloria since they are well aware of the different interest groups that are promoting theirs while keeping Gloria on their leash. The last thing investors need is a change in rules while the game is being played. It seems, our legislators have not learned their lessons from the past. Or are deliberately pushing investors away from industries their patrons in Malacañang have their feet (and mouths) in. Congress is presently in the process of revising EPIRA which full implementation has been delayed because NAPOCOR and PSALM have ben delaying if not bungling the auctions. WTF? Gov’t delays implementing a law and it now says that law must be changed because it does not meet the needed results? That is the JFC’s beef. Why change it before it’s even implemented?

Enrile’s arrogant insistence for Hubert to name the legislators, rudely cutting the poor guy while reading the JFC position several times is exactly the character these legitimate investors are most fearful of – being bullied by palace henchmen into shunning the country for those investors yet prospecting, or packing up and leaving, for those who are already here. Such stupid displays of brashness – at one point Enrile asks the businessmen to leave the country – are one of the reasons our not-so-democratic neighbors like Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam have beaten us in the race. Look at the major conglomerates leaving us and relocating in those places! Colgate, Unilever, Intel, and very recently, UPS, Mirant, and Aramco. It is a no-brainer, according to D’Aboville that we got a measly $2.5B in investments for the whole of 2007 while Vietnam is already raking in $15B in the last four months. Crumbs for the sorry Pinoys.

And for a government that believes it’s survival is hinged on the number of investors it can attract, it better start summoning its attack dogs like Winston Garcia, Enrile and Miriam and tell them, “Put tongue in, anew!”

  83. Gabriela Gabriela

Miranda, Gen. Lim, Col. Querubin at iba pa.

  85. bitchevil bitchevil

Asiandelight, even if you have the right to criticize Erap I think you’re really very unfair. Why question about Erap’s lack of experience in managing the projects? Do you know that Erap’s cabinet was among the best? The names Pardo, Diokno, Siazon, Cuevas were all good. Erap had competent advisers to advise him on difficult tasks. Now what about this GMA who claims to be highly educated and economic expert? Her cabinet members were mosty idiots!

  86. sioktong sioktong

Look at President Ronald Reagan, he was an actor. He turned out to be a good president. Why? Because he had good advisors that enable him to make good decisions. Just like Pres. Joseph Estrada as mentioned by bitchevil.

Now with tiyanak pidal, who is an illegal occupant of Malacañang, it does not matter whether there are good advisors or not because tiyanak pidal was born with a mark of pidal 666.

  87. sioktong sioktong

Did you notice the current editorial piece on Tribune. Niñez does not address the illegal/illegitimate occupant of Malacañang as President anymore. She now address her as Gloria Arroyo or just Gloria. Bravo! She should had done it a long time ago.

All journalist writer’s should never address tiyanak pidal as president of the republic because she is an illegal occupant, a thief. I guess, they had to be jailed first before they realized that this tiyanak pidal is taking advantage of journalist ethics or formalities or whatever.

  88. sioktong sioktong

I read a lot of things like ‘From the Office of the President’ it should be and it must be ‘From the Occupant of Malacañang’.

  89. Valdemar Valdemar

    asiandelight,
attaboy! you’re very right. I agree you. Hindi guilty si Gloria kaya di nakakulong.

  90. Sinong may sabing guilty si Erap? Napatunayan ba? Tapos, speedy pardon ang ginawa na, hopefully, si NCO will not agree to be subjected to lalo na ngayong wala namang capital punishment.

Tongue, grizzy, ellen and all bloggers here, yes this is off topic but I think this is also valuable as of this time. These gloria macabebe arrovo senators are trying to portray themselves an image of being nationalistic. Those are merely European investors. Whatever power they have to control our nation is very insignificant compared to the Americans and the Chinese here in the Philippines who have historically been corrupting our very national character which is the progression of autoimmune national disease. These honorable senators are supporting gloria macabebe arrovo who is a US/Chinese/Garci installed puppet president. They, together with Winston Nicotintoxic Garcia may be collaborating with GMA in laying the groundwork for the more massive takeover of businesses in the Philippines by the Americans and the Chinese who are now controlling GMA. This economic move is part of their strategy. They will be able to move to a position of stonger power to control our political processes not long from now thru their puppet GMA. The result will be beneficial to the Americans because they will have more free access to our resources that are of military value to them. It will be beneficial to the Chinese because they will greater area for business maneuvers. It will be beneficial to gloria macabebe arrovo because she will have more tonpats.

  93. Gabriela Gabriela

If one is nationalist, he or she must be selfless for the country. The case of Enrile, Santiago and Joker Arroyo is not nationalism. It’s greed.

  94. Gabriela Gabriela

Tongue, have you met your friend Hubert D’Aboville after that bullying by Enrile and Santiago? Wondering what he says in private about this administration.

It’s their fault in a way.

  95. Of topic, but I just saw a video clip of some kittens supping from the tits of a dog, who has just given birth to her own puppies. The kittens had lost their mother and their finder thought of having them fed by her dog.

Talk of the last days when the lions and the tigers, dogs and cats, etc. will once again live in harmony prior to the Second Coming of Christ. Dapat matakot na si Gloria Dorobo and her husband. I doubt if they are gaining points in heaven for what they do for publicity only, funded with stolen funds from the treasury!

    asiandelight,

You are the epitome of the Filiipino Crab Mentality. Just like the black and white movement and most elite and some middle class, they don’t want to admit they made a mistake. Kaya di tayo umunlad eh, ayaw natin aminin ang mga pagkukulang at pagkakamali natin and learn from those mistakes!

They didn’t found any document which Erap signed that was disadvantageous to the government or any projects that was tainted with anomalies.

Grow up asiandelight! Don’t be a crab! Let us open our eyes to reality. History will be the ultimate judge not self-righteous people like you.

Erap could be compared to Marcos who did not personally enrich themselves. Those who benefited were their friends and cronies. Their weakness is the padrino system. They were too accommodating a generous to their close friends most of whom took advantage and abuse the two’s kindness. Let’s turn to the Arroyos…GMA and her family are the ones who most benefited and continue to benefit from people’s money.

  99. sioktong sioktong

Bitchevil, are you saying that Marcos did not enrich himself while in power? Are you kidding me? Are you from Ilocos too?
    Are you Ilocana?

Sioktong, what has being an Ilokano got to do with my opinion about Marcos? I’m not an Ilocano. I’m a full blooded Manila Boy with roots in Iloilo. Read what I said carefully…Marcos did not enrich himself PERSONALLY. Of course he indirectly benefited from it. I can honestly tell you that corruption was more attributed to Imelda’s side all the Romualdez clan than the Marcoses. Marcos’ brother was a professional doctor. The ones who got truly rich were Cojuangco, Benedicto, Tan, AFP Generals. This is not to say that Marcos should not be blamed for that. Of course he should be blamed for allowing this. Now if you compare Marcos to this GMA, I don’t think you can even compare the two. They are miles apart.

To tell you the truth Marcos enrich himself PERSONALLY than GMA a billion times. They are indeed miles apart because apo Ferdie has more stolen money than GMA. The only difference between the two is that GMA sold out our patrimonies to Chinese while Marcos even expanded the Philippine terrritory by annexing the Spratly Islands as ours.

This link that I am about to post is fully documented on how apo Ferdie PERSONALLY enrich himself by the billions and bullion’s. Imelda Marcos is just a spender of apo Marcos PERSONALLY amassed billions and bullion’s. I will post it when I wake up or when you remind me about it….good night bitchevil Manila Boy.

  107. Bakit hindi darami ang pera ni Marcos? 20 years na libre lahat, nakaipon sila, and if he and his friends got rich quick, most likely dahil sa mga rebates and commissions, hindi nakaw na gaya ng garapalang trabaho ni Gloria Dorobo at Miguel Mandarambong.

But definitely, iyong nanay niya, kapatid, at iba pang kamag-anak niya sa ina, yumaman din kasi kabi-kabila ang offer for them to be chairman of this and that company.

Iyon ngang Baron Travel Corporation, for example, that Art Panganiban was president of, Chairman of the Board iyong kapatid ni Marcos na si Pacifico. I can’t remember kung pati si Donya Josefa kasama. Golly, hindi pumapasok, pangalan lang at siguro once in a year board meeting lang nakikita, pero ang laki ng sueldo! Sinong hindi yayaman niyan? Si Panganiban nga biglang yaman, from rags to riches pa.

Ngayon sabi noong isang nagbabayad ng suhol kay Fat Guy like he did to all the other presidents of the Philippines since time immemorial, sapilitan daw!

Kawawang Pilipinas!

Naku, Asiandelight: Ang mga taong kagaya mo na nakikinig lang sa sarili at hindi nakikinig sa payo ng iba ay mas mapanganib and is more open to corruption. You need to listen to others especially experts in their respective fields so you don’t get swallowed by your ego and your belief in yourself. Its dangerous to just listen to oneself all the time. Why don’t you try relying on good people and try to seek wisdom from others who are gifted with it. God forbid you will be doomed! Makinig ka sa iba, not only with your ears but also with your heart and with your conscience. May you be pleasing to the Lord!

Listening to one self and listening to the things you only want to hear (from people who have vested interests) are bound to self-distract. That is what is happening to the evil one in Malacanang and her alipores.

Sioktong, grizzy has answered your questions about Marcos. It’s time for you to drink more sioktong…Thanks grizzy.

  113. bitchevil bitchevil

Furthermore sioktong, Marcos experienced the same crisis from 1971 to 1979’s astronomical oil price hikes and rice supply crises. So he proceeded to implement strategic infrastructure development and energy self-sufficiency with geothermal and dendrothermal, large and mini-hydros, small gasifiers (using rice and coconut husks), and the giant Bataan Nuclear Power Plant projects. He also established the national oil company and our oil transport facilities. Unfortunately, Marcos’ programs were cut short by “people power,” and the successors made sure the programs for energy, fuel and food self-sufficiency were cut short as well. Today, Sec. Angie Reyes is suggesting to resurrect the Bataan Nuclear Plant. This only shows that Marcos at that time already had a vision. He knew that the country would one day experience serious energy crisis.

  114. Bitchdevil:

I’m only saying what I know personally, not what I only heard from people who love to spread hearsays.

I don’t hide that Marcos was a relative of my mother but I can assure you that none of the relatives I know who were close to the deposed president stole money from the government. Walang yumaman at kung meron man, dati nang kayamanan o pinaghirapan. Kung meron man silang napakinabang sa tenure of office ni Apo, siguro iyong connection nila sa powers that be at that time. But I tell you not many of them nakinabang ng husto kaya nga maraming nagalit kay Apo na kamag-anak namin.

Siguro iyon lang mapangalagaan ang pangalan ng pamilya ng mother ko, etc. by trying to help correct the bad image of the deposed president, my mother’s kin. Iyon lang. If that is vested interest, so be it.

Naging general siya through merits, not sipsip. In a way, I salute him. Kailangan lang niyang maging kasingtapang ko, I guess. Naks, ang yabang! Sorry!!! Nagsasabi lang ng totoo. 😛

  115. Obedient: Makinig ka sa iba, not only with your ears but also with your heart and with your conscience.

    ******

Best, magbasa ng Holy Scriptures araw-araw para magabayan, and rely as much as possible on the promptings of the Holy Ghost.

Gaya ni Ellen, for instance.

God bless!

  116. Valdemar Valdemar

The Yamashita treasure has become a delightful Marcos wealth still peddled on the commodity trade at the fastfoods in Makati, Cubao, North SM and practically all over. Once in a while we read foreigners apprehended on their flight carrying trillions of boxed Fedral notes, etc. Even the the pilfered fuels from the nuke plant in Bataan are still changing hands. And of course those accounts stashed in many foreign banks. All these are still growing mythodologically. There are also gold bullions cached at Metro bank vaults and those awaiting to be mined in Antipolo and vicinities. And many yet believe in those myth. Malacanan lesser officials were with me sometimes loking for plausible trails. Even admirals and generals. Many tales are still concocted. But the only fact of riches of Marcos came from investors before they came in into the country. They vouched that he received their tongs going about 10Bn dollars. He never stole our money. He printed them but others took advantage. Mostly cronies. Many are now having a heyday like in the malls, etc. Imelda may have made a lot of money and jewelries on her own initiatives sans Marcos help. As if we didnt know how wives operate with husbands of authority. Thatis still true to this day.

  117. Speaking of Imelda, I heard she’s now into making jewelries, and she is making good despite the negative publicity about her. I understand her feet are not as big as those shoes they have tried to malign her with.

Kung marami siyang sapatos, for sure marami kasing nagregalo sa kaniya, for she was most responsible for making Marikina then as the shoe center of Asia if not just the Philippines. Ngayon ang pangyabang ng mga kurakot, kanilang kaharian ang Marikina with some legend that long, long time ago, some ponga rode on a white horse and put markers on the land his horse would manage to tread on.

  119. sioktong sioktong

Valdemar, you are going to eat your words once I post the link. It is only a myth, huh? watch and learn.

    wait, I have some more…

  120. sioktong sioktong

    grizzy Says:

I don’t hide that Marcos was a relative of my mother but I can assure you that none of the relatives I know who were close to the deposed president stole money from the government.

The reader of this blog are not stupid.

my next post will be the links.

  121. bitchevil bitchevil

If Grizzy is related to Marcos, she knows what she’s talking about. So sioktong, you’re in the worst position to make a conclusion. How dare you compare Marcos to GMA? It took Cory six years to duplicate Marcos while it took GMA six months to do it. Assuming Marcos stole money, part of it benefited the people. What about GMA? All the money she and her spouse stole only benefited them!

  122. sioktong sioktong

The link about golden buddha is embedded on the first link that I provided. The link is the official court record from the Supreme Court of the State of Hawaii. To make sure that you will not miss it I provided it below:

  123. sioktong sioktong

The links that I provided above speaks for itself.

  124. bitchevil bitchevil

Sioktong, you must be related to Yamashita.

  125. Why should I believe accounts written deliberately to malign? I’d believe more what I have seen, observed and heard from the horse’s mouth.

As for the fabled Yamashita treasure, do you think that Japanese government would not know about it if it was true? Everything about WWII in fact is now in the open. Anybody can make use of the documents at our archives for their research. It is definitely a hoax.

There should be an accounting of what happened to the millions of dollars, the biggest amount given to countries invaded by Japan in WWII, paid to the Philippines? There should be an accounting of those payments as a matter of fact, plus the following monies granted to the Philippines till 2006:
    Trade with Japan (2006):
Exports: 925.7 billion yen (electronic machinery)
Imports: 1,047.9 billion yen (electronic machinery)
    Direct Investment from Japan:
    (1) 11.6 billion Peso (approved by Bureau of Investment) (2005)
    (2) 15.7 billion Peso (approved by Philippine Economic Zone Authority) (2005)
    Japan’s Economic Cooperation:
    List of Exchange of Notes
Loans: 2,032.67 billion yen (cumulative total-2005)
Grants: 249.1 billion yen (cumulative total-2005)
Technical Cooperation: 175.3 billion yen (cumulative total-2005)

Malaking pera iyan. Saan na tinekwat ang mga perang iyan? Yamashita treasure? Sa panaginip!!!

  126. Ano iyan inggit? What I said about our relatives on the side of the Marcos’ father is true. Walang nagnakaw dahil may mga kaya at marangal sila! I can vouch for that! Tawag nga sa kanila, landed gentry. Wala akong pakialam kina Cory. Mas matanda ang lahi namin sa kanila!!!

    Sioktong,

I beg to disagree with you na kung abutin man ng 20 years si GMA ay di mahihigitan ang kinamkam ni Marcos kamo? What all the Presidents did in their full terms, she did it in six months!!! It took 20 years of Marcos and Martial Law to have 1,000 disappearances, it took GMA about six years in office to have 800 political killings.

Marcos had a vision, and has a mass-based support called the loyalists, GMA has none except the Pidal family and her corrupt generals!

Almost all the major infras were project by Marcos. Marcos did a lot of things also for the country, things just became worse when he got sick and his people took advantage of him.

No President could be worse than GMA!!!

  129. andres andres

Part of the blame for having GMA as an occupant in Malacanang is the civil society and Erap-bashers like Asiandelight.

Had they not interfered with the voice of the people, we wouldn’t have had the karma that is GMA!!!

  130. sioktong sioktong

Before I sleep tonight I forgot to tell you that on those 3 links that I provided above it specifically mentioned the looting of Central Bank gold reserves also ( we are talking not only real money but gold bullions from Central Bank and Yamashita bullions). Let me list the 3 links that I provided above. Here are the list of links again:

It will take hours to read all of it. So, I will come back later after I wake up or anytime after my waking hours.

  131. Imelda has been paying people at the SC to give her back the money that rightfully belong to her and her husband. Walang binabanggit na Yamashita treasure.

I remember, a year ago I translated interviews, etc. for a documentary on this fabled Yamashita treasure that Filipinos are still looking for. Yuck!

Walang urungan. Matira ang balat sa tinalupan!!!

  133. sioktong sioktong

Andres, I agree with you that tiyanak pidal is worst than Marcos.

    bitchevil Says:
    June 9th, 2008 at 12:48 am
Erap could be compared to Marcos who did not personally enrich themselves. Those who benefited were their friends and cronies. Their weakness is the padrino system. They were too accommodating a generous to their close friends most of whom took advantage and abuse the two’s kindness.

Pinatunayan ko lang kay bitchevil na she could not compare Erap to Marcos na did not personally enrich themselves.

  134. bitchevil bitchevil

Sioktong, I still maintain my position that Marcos did not personally enrich himself. I don’t know how you understand the term “personally”. Your argument could have been more accepted had you not injected one’s ethnic origin and someone’s relationship to Marcos. Those were not the issues. Nevertheless, it’s good to know that you agree that GMA is the worst of all. If you say that, then there’s no reason to argue about Marcos and Erap. The story should end here.

  135. sioktong sioktong

It will never end because of the sioktong effect. I just want to repost what I posted above:

    Thanks for the link, Tonque.

To tell you the truth, when you posted about the ill gotten gold bars of Marcos at Fort Knox a few days ago it sparked my interest to do a google research about the ill gotten wealth of Marcos and it produced the 3 links that I posted above but I could not find about the Fort Knox ill gotten gold bars of Marcos on google search. I tried different key words but no luck. It might be possible that I saw it already but my eyes could not recognize it because of the effect of sioktong….lol

Anyway, if you have a link about it can you please share it here at ellen’s blog. Cheers…..

  137. norpil norpil

i am no expert on marcos wealth nor most of our past presidents who misused the pinas regardless. as i understood the google, anybody can write something on something and there is no quality controll. therefore one should be careful in using the results. anyway, marcos and the others are past and is more on the historical side, gma is looting the pinas right now and the pinoys tolerate it. i am almost sure that some bloggers will write something good about her when she steps down and maybe say that she did not enrich herself in power, just her children and relatives.

  138. sioktong,
If I remember right it was in a book written by Dave Guyatt. I must’ve also read it somewhere in the Secret Gold Treaty. Or in Deep Black Lies.

I also heard stories about hese gold bars from our Mayor Trinidad who is related to Imelda. He said Marcos hired 2 psychics who claimed they could pinpoint exact locations of some treasures. The Mayor said Marcos was also a psychic himself but could not take control of his gift but he is good in judging people. (That explains Ver over Ramos) He chose the Russian psychic over the Jew. The Russian told them to dig at the bank of Pasig River near Sta. Cruz bridge, but since it was soldiers that were doing the digging, they were afraid they might raise suspicion so they decided to make the LRT track, which was under construction then, make a sudden bend and cross at the exact spot. Never mind that the newly-built Isetann Department Store had to be demolished, despite protests from the owner, to give way to LRT. A convenient route was available then according to the owner it’s an unnecessary detour. (I also notice that sudden change in direction when I ride the LRT.) Sure thing, the site produced gold treasure but the Russian disappeared, never to be heard from again, according to Peewee.

Another story is that of the weirdo psychic Ronnie Marcos who was courting a blockmate of my brother in UP. The girl was afraid of turning him down because of his temper and his weird “demos”. One time, we were in the girls house and Ronnie came alone. We asked about his bodyguards and he said, “I left them in the restaurant. I came out of the front door without being noticed because I was invisible”. Kinilabutan ako. He even asked for water but when he put the transparent glass down half full, it was already coffee with cream!Ngiiii! He was complaining he has not been sleeping for days, that he was tired of showing “his dad” many treasures already, he “played” with his guards so he can escape and visit the girl.

The girl finally got him ‘basted’ and seven days later, the girl’s Toyota Corolla run under a trailer, taking out the car’s roof. She swears she didn’t see any parked truck in Commonwealth Ave. It was 3 in the afternoon!

I would have dismissed these Roxas stories, and those foreign books which could have been fiction. But those of Peewee, my uncle, and Ronnie Marcos’ own admission?

  139. bitchevil bitchevil

Norpil, yes Marcos is past. There’s no point talking about him. What we should be most concerned about is this GMA who’s causing so much damage to the country as each day passes. She must be terminated. On the level…

  140. sioktong sioktong

Tongue, thanks for the tip. Next time when I ride on LRT I am going to observe that track that you described. That psychic Ronnie Marcos could have done something to tiyanak pidal to make her disappear……hehehe. Yeah, it is hard to discount their own admissions unless they are just joking around with you.

  141. But nothing has been heard of Ronnie Marcos to this day. The last time we heard of him was when he was taken to NASA in the early 80’s to undergo a series of tests for his gift. Rumors say he is now dead.

  142. sioktong sioktong

What struck me the most is your uncle’s story. He was an officer of 51st Engineering Brigade. He was there when it all happened. It is not just a story that was told to your uncle.
The event that your uncle told you correlated with the link that you provided.

  143. sioktong sioktong

Marcos already planned everything if gold was found. Most likely Marcos killed the Russian psychic to eliminate a very strong witness on gold excavation, and the gold that was found, that can corroborate the informations on the link that you provided. I think Marcos chose the Russian over the Jewish psyschic because he knew that the Jews take care of their own people compare to Russian. The Jewish government will most likely get involve, which will be a bigger headache to Marcos, compare to Russian government. I think, that’s why he chose the Russian psychic.

  144. dandaw dandaw

Sioktong and Tong, Nothing is past when it comes to swindling the Filipinos. My question is: where did the CB get the gold reserve? That Yamashita story is unbelievable. Nobody in the Philippines deserve to have amazed that kind of wealth unless you work hard for it by honest means. Imelda and the children of Marcos are still in power and as wealthy as can be. They should all be accountable for their fathers crime because the children are benefiting from the loot of their father. Sad, Marcos did not take any gold to his grave. I’m sure he is roting in hell with all the people he salvaged. The problem with this called “leaders” they have nothing in their mind but steal the peoples money. To answer Cocoys question about Magsaysay, all I knew was he was a good engineer because he used to fix our toaster and I was too young to know about politics. I don’t think he was a member of the CIA. I think the airplane crush was an accident.

  145. dandaw dandaw

Sioktong, Is that Ronnie Marcos the age of Bongbong? There is a lot of stories going around that the real Bongbong was long dead. Maybe that Ronnie Marcos is the same priest from Canada that performs miracle. Contrary to science, the Pinoys think he can cure Cancer but I think the IRS is after him.

  146. Sioktong,

    Saka mo sabihing unbelievable.
