However, they still keep denying they lobby. From government officials to military and police officials, the Bishops push their favorites. That’s why many of these who get appointed are indebted to these Bishops. But in fairness to Catholic bishops, other religious groups also practice such padrino system. The only difference is that while other groups do it silently, these Bishops openly and shamelessly do it.

I am from Cagayan and I know for a fact that Archbishop Talamayan is very close to GMA. He criticizes politicos for cheating and yet he did not do anything about election cheating in the province. His parish Priests(PPCRV) were more critical in pointing out cheatings but he did not support them. He is being influenced by these politicos, in what way? only God knows.

QUESTION: Was not the fight for independence against Spain, essentially, a fight against the OPPRESSION OF THE DOMINICAN AND THE FRANCISCAN SPANISH FRIARS, during the 377 or 333* some years of the Catholic Church’s colonization and subjugation of the Philippines?

    REBUTTAL:

Why then do the Pilipinos openly welcome the clergies of the church to continue interfering in affairs that are clearly political and belong to the running of the government???

With the exception of a few (not even a handful) of journalists – Pinoy media has been quite tolerant, engaging and even encouraging in the continued intervention, interference and political activism and military adventurism of the CBCP and members of the religious clergies, like the Christian Brothers of the De La Salle.

    Why?

Who wants a return to FRIAROCRACY and continue to be dominated by “men and women in religious robes”, in the conduct and governance of their daily lives?

Who prefers to have the priests, the bishops, the Christian Brothers (of La Salle), the evangelists, the charismatics, the pentecostals and VATICAN to run the government?

When will the Pilipinos learn to accept responsibility and be willing to be held accountable for their actions in managing or mismanaging the affairs of government?

The Constitution of the Philippines has been repeatedly violated by the (Catholic) Church, and the People have not only allowed it, but actually encouraged it.

Give to the Vatican, what belongs to the Church; and to Rome, what belongs to Caesar…even Jesus Christ recognized the urgent need to keep the Church and the State separate.

This new posting by Ellen deserves a review of the history of the various Constitutions throughout the history of the Philippines.

    EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

“The 1935 Constitution of the Philippines served as the fundamental law of the land from 1935 to 1972. It establishes the Commonwealth of the Philippines and provides that upon withdrawal of American sovereignty in the country and the declaration of Philippine independence, said commonwealth shall be known as the Republic of the Philippines.

The Constitution enumerates the composition, powers and duties of the three branches of government (the Executive, Legislative and Judicial) and creates the General Auditing Office and lays down the framework in the establishment of the civil service in the country.

The Constitution vests the President with the veto power on legislative bills and emergency powers in times of war and other national emergencies.

Also, the Constitution adopts the Regalian Doctrine or the Principle of State ownership for all its natural wealth and provides for the proper utilization of such wealth by its citizens.

NOTES : The 1935 Constitution was amended in 1940 and in 1947. This version incorporates all the amendments.

The draft of the 1935 Constitution, adopted by the Philippine Constitutional Convention on 8 February 1935, provides for a unicameral Legislature and a single six-year term for the President.

The draft was submitted to US President Franklin D. Roosevelt on 18 March 1935. He, in turn, certified that it conforms with Public Act No. 127 which was passed by the U.S. Congress on 23 March 1935 and forwarded the same to the Governor General of the Philippine Islands for ratification of the Filipino people.

The constitution was ratified on 14 May 1935.

On 11 April 1940, the [Philippine] Second National Assembly adopted Resolution No. 73 proposing amendments to the Constitution. The amendments provide for the creation of a bicameral Congress and the establishment of a Commission on Elections.

It also limits the term of office of the President to four years, but may continue to serve as such for a maximum of eight years.

On 11 March 1947, a plebiscite was held for the purpose of ratifying the proposed amendment granting US Citizens the right to the disposition, exploitation, development and utilization of Philippine natural resources (Ordinance Appended to the Constitution). The amendment passed.

    =====================================

The 1987 Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines, prescribed and mandated clearly and succinctly, in its “Declaration of Principles and State Policies” and “Bill of Rights”, the principle of laws that shall govern the relationship between the Church and the State.

ARTICLE II DECLARATION OF PRINCIPLES AND STATE POLICIES
    Section 6 declares:
“The separation of Church and State shall be inviolable.”

ARTICLE III – BILL OF RIGHTS
    Section 5 stipulates:
“No law shall be made respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. The free exercise and enjoyment of religious profession and worship, without discrimination or preference, shall forever be allowed. No religious test shall be required for the exercise of civil or political rights.”
    ============

    Friarocracy (or “frailocracia”) versus Democracy

And these fundamental principles of governance have been with the Pilipino people all the way back to its first fight for independence against Spain. In its very first Constitution ratified and promulgated in 1899, it stated:

Title III: Religion – Article 5.
“The State recognizes the freedom and equality of all religions, as well as the separation of the Church and the State.”

The Constitution currently in effect was enacted in 1987, during the administration of President Corazon Aquino, and is popularly known as the “1987 Constitution”.

Philippine constitutional law experts recognize three other previous constitutions as having effectively governed the country —

    1. the 1935 Commonwealth Constitution, (the American Constitution adopted and in effect thru 1972)

    2. the 1973 Constitution, (a.k.a. the (“Muck U. Farcos” Martial Law Constitution),- valid thru 1986;

    3. 1986 (Cory Aquino) Freedom Constitution. (the revolutionary – interim Constitution after Marcos was kicked out and chased out of the Presidency) – later amended to the current 1987 Constitution ratified during a Constitutional Convention.

THE 1973 (martial law) CONSTITUTION OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES –
Article IV. Bill of Rights Section 8 states:

“No law shall be made respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. The free exercise and enjoyment of religious profession and worship, without discrimination or preference, shall forever be allowed. No religious test shall be required for the exercise of civil or political rights.

    =======================

As can be seen from the history of the Philippine Constitution, the principle of separation of Church and State has been inherent in the Pilipinos’ idea of self-rule and self-governance.

So, how come Pilipinos never observed it?

Don’t worry bitchevil. Salceda will have another revelation telling you who are those groups doing it silently, the padrino system. It will be another gospel truth for you…..hehehehhe

  6. Usong-uso talaga iyang Padrino system kahit noon pa.Kung may padrino ka talaga madali kang makapasok ng trabaho.

Padrino means it is not what you know but whom do you know.

“Separation of Church and State.” Hhhhmmmmm!

  9. Pepeton,
Gloria needed the help of church and bishop to subvert and change our lawful form of government. She cannot propagate her false information and lies if bishop.priest and preachers teach the truths we find in Holy Scripture. Our Bibles give us a record of the rise and fall of many different governments. The Bible gives us the story of many great men who challenged evil and wicked governments. Many of God’s servants were threatened, imprisoned, thrown into fiery furnaces, thrown to the lions and etc. when they refused to obey politician-created laws.

  10. Churches and Preachers have also violated common sense and logic when they preach that we must “render unto Caesar the things that be Caesars”. They tell us we must pay, to our government, whatever taxes politicians demand. Christ was not talking about taxes. The question which he answered was, ‘Should the people pay tribute to Caesar?’ Tribute is not a tax. When a nation is conquered, the people become servants of the conquerors and they must pay tribute. When Christ was confronted with this question, designed to cause him political problems, he silenced his enemies with his answer, “Render unto Caesar the things that be Caesar’s and render unto God the things that be God’s:’ In other words, give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and give to God what belongs to God.

Everyone, from the President, the Congress, the Voters is talking Electoral Reforms, but until the Appointments of Elections Official are Patronage and Partisan, no reform as envisioned by anyone is possible:

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Election Canada, responsible for bringing us the transparent, clean and speedy and peaceful election is appointed by this process:

Appointment of the Chief Electoral Officer
Elections Canada: The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada: Appointment of the Chief Electoral Officer
    Appointment

The position of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) was created in 1920 by the Dominion Elections Act. The Chief Electoral Officer is appointed by a resolution of the House of Commons. He or she reports directly to Parliament and is thus completely independent of the government of the day and all political parties. The CEO serves until retirement at age 65 or resignation. He or she can be removed from office only for cause, by the Governor General after a joint request following a majority vote by the House of Commons and Senate.

Mandate of the Chief Electoral Officer

The Chief Electoral Officer is responsible for the administration of elections, referendums and other important aspects of our electoral system. The Chief Electoral Officer is assisted in carrying out this mandate by the Deputy Chief Electoral Officer and Chief Legal Counsel, as well as the Commissioner of Canada Elections, who ensures that the provisions of the Canada Elections Act and the Referendum Act are complied with and enforced, and the Broadcasting Arbitrator.
    ************

The current CEO as soon as taking office has been locking horns with the Government in power and is now in Civil Litigation with the Party in government about election issues. That how independent the Chief is…No Fear who gets embarrassed doing his JOB.

I haven’t seen that fake paper money.

  16. chi chi

    cocoy,

  17. Uniffors has a funny and witty entry on Bishop Pueblos and the Go family.

  18. chi chi

The scandal that rocked some Bishops who received the white envelopes has no closure yet. Unless these corrupt Bishops are unmasked, they have no business and right to even make any comment about any government issue.

  21. bitchevil bitchevil

If you closely compare the evil bitch to her mother Eva. The saying “Like Mother, Like Daughter” applies to them.

  22. chi chi

    Atsoybispo! Ha!ha!ha! Tugmang-tugma, Yuko.

Okey yung “atsoybispo”. How about assbitchcrap?

  24. chi chi

    Assbitchcrap Eduardo Talamayan

    Assbitchcrap Juan de Dios Pueblos

    Assbitchcrap Gaudencio Rozales

  27. Ellen,

    This is just shocking!

Gloria Macapagal Arroyo should have had the decency to turn down the request of the bishop on behalf of the Go family to operate again — not before having completed the investigations.

Authorising the Go ships to sail on the mere request of a bishop is sending the wrong signals to the rest of the nation: that justice is not money blind! Just extraordinarily gobsmacking!

  28. Etnad Etnad

Matagal ko rin hindi nasabi ang salitang iyan until the Pandack Omama and her family squatted at the palace by the murky river. Hindi mapigilan. Ang sarap talagang murahin especially when you think of the Filipinos, both female and male, who engage in prostitution in Japan just to survive, tapos ipagmamalaki ng panggulo nila ang dami nilang padalang dolyar at yen!

  30. chi chi

    Yuko,

Kahit ako Katoliko I feel that I have the right to make mura sa mga Atsoybispo/Asobispo/Assbitchcrap dahil sa kanilang mga pronouncement na palaging pagtatanggol sa unana, pagpapabaya at pagbebenta sa kanilang mga followers.

Enough is enough for these priests in dark capes!

  31. Chi,

Sabi nga sa Biblia, “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” (Matt. 7: 15)

Iyong mga asobispo/atsoybispo/archbitchcrap, ravening wolves talaga! Hayok na hayok sa pera! Ganid din!

  32. bitchevil bitchevil

    “…in sheep’s clothing…” Aren’t the priests in sheep’s clothing?
