Chavit Singson named deputy national security adviser

Update from ABS-CBN news: Chavit hits back at critics. “They’re just jealous. If they want the position, then it’s theirs. If they can help, the job is theirs. But if they will only add up to the troubles of our nation, then they should get out of the country,” Singson told a radio dzMM interview, adding that those who are speaking against his appointment were just jealous of it.

After a yearlong absence from the political scene, former Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis “Chavit” Singson is back in the corridors of power.

President Macapagal-Arroyo has tapped Singson as deputy National Security Adviser (NSA) under Secretary Norberto Gonzales, a Malacañang official told the Philippine Daily Inquirer Friday night.

The official, who asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to make the announcement, said the appointment of Singson was signed by Ms Arroyo this week and would be announced on Monday by Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita.

The post of deputy NSA was vacated by retired Army Lt. Gen. Pedro Cabuay, who was moved to the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency effective Aug. 31.

Cabuay replaced fellow retired Gen. Cesar Garcia who resigned due to health reasons.

Together again

According to the Malacañang official, Singson’s appointment does not mean that Gonzales has lost the confidence of Ms Arroyo owing to the collapse of peace talks with the secessionist Moro rebels.

Singson’s re-entry to Malacañang closely followed the appointment to positions of power of three other of his colleagues who, like, him lost in the 2007 senatorial elections when they ran under Ms Arroyo’s Team Unity ticket.

In July, Ms Arroyo named former Sen. Vicente Sotto III as the new head of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB).

Weeks later, former Sen. Ralph Recto was appointed socioeconomic planning secretary and director general of the National Economic and Development Authority (Neda).

Recently, another Singson friend, former Surigao del Sur Rep. Prospero Pichay, was named acting chair of the Local Water Utilities Administration.

Undying gratitude

A businessman, Singson has had a colorful political career spanning three decades.

As a government official, he became kingpin of Ilocos Sur.

In 2000, he won Ms Arroyo’s undying political gratitude when he turned against his friend, then President Joseph Estrada, and told the nation how Estrada had amassed hundreds of millions from the illegal jueteng numbers game.

Singson’s damaging expose triggered Estrada’s impeachment trial, which led to his ouster in the 2001 Edsa II popular revolution that catapulted then Vice President Arroyo to the presidency.

Convicted of corruption by the Sandiganbayan, the 70-year-old Estrada was later granted pardon by Ms Arroyo.

Singson resented the pardon for Estrada, and even threatened at one point to leave the administration camp.

Singson said in several interviews that he felt he had been “used” as a political pawn.

“If you set him free, why did we file charges against him in the first place?” he had said.

This prompted Ermita to say that an ally like Singson was someone the Palace “cannot afford to lose.”

It pays to be loyal to the Evil Bitch. She learned more than what she should learn from the late Marcos who also rewarded his friends with juicy government posts during his time. But there’s a difference between the two: While many of Marcos’ friends and appointees were qualified, this evil woman’s only criteria is loyalty to her. What’s Singson’s credential? Other than being Governor of his Province who did nothing but to enrich himself and eliminate his political opponents, he has no experience in National Security. Let’s not forget that National Security is among the most sensitive and powerful agencies. As adviser, Singson can come up with some imagined accusations against his personal enemies and then eliminate them without a clue.
He’s good at that. With all his crimes, he has not been convicted of any of these. One who occupies such a sensitive post must have a clean background, without tainted and tarnished record. Singson was involved in big time jueteng scandals that led to the ouster of Erap. Singson got free only because he stood as state witness against Erap. But, that does not absolve him of his crimes. Now, the Evil Bitch has appointed him in that position. Damn!

  2. Ellen,

This can’t be true! Has Gloria become senile?

    I’m simply speechless!

  3. Re: “A businessman, Singson has had a colorful political career spanning three decades.”

A colourful career? He’s got a checkered red, green and yellow stripes on top of it.

This is pushing Filipinos to the wall.

    Unbelievable.

  6. bitchevil bitchevil

And maybe Manny Pacquiao as Sports Commissioner. Singson’s first day of agenda in office is to retaliate against his enemies. Watch out, Erap!

  7. Chabeli Chabeli

Haaaahahahaaaaaaa ! Gloria is scrapping bottom. Only LOSERS join her cabinet..then again, who in his sane mind would even want to be associated with a midget & a swine ?

  8. bitchevil bitchevil

Crime Lord Chavit Singson has this to say about his appointment: Unlike other appointees, he did not ask for it. Also, he used to be the Chief of Police in Vigan, so he’s qualified for the position. Ha, ha, ha…go to hell !

  9. Kawawang bansa! Has the country gone so lacking not just in material wealth but also in talents that a criminal lord be assigned to head the agency for national security. But then, look, as the old adage says, “Birds of the same feather, flock together.”

    My condolence to all Filipinos!

Saan naman kaya ipupuwesto si Cesar Montano?

  12. The Midget is definitely just making sure that her protectors are kept happy and contented apparently. Thus, the appointments that should actually merit strong protests from sane and patriotic Filipinos. Nakakangitngit talaga.

BTW, Ellen, someone has been trying to distribute a trojan via this blog, I guess. I’ve been getting warnings every time I get to this blog since yesterday. I’m protected but it surely can be annoying getting those warnings.

  13. Etnad Etnad

  14. bitchevil bitchevil

Etnad, Cesar Montano might be appointed to MTRBC Board after his “Singing Bee” program just concluded. Or the Bitch might give him money to produce action or comedy movies.

The danger lies on GMA’s evil character. Unlike Marcos and Erap who had no heart to hurt and kill the people despite their tough images, this Gloria will not think twice to shoot and kill if her throne is threatened.

why are you people against gma when it’s not proven she corrupted?

is this the kind of rule-of-law we wanted? hey, ya’ll, all your informations are coming from pekeng-periodistas and pekeng-periodiko ….

if it’s really true that gma corrupted she could have been booted out long time ago.

so, let’s choose, rule-of-law or gossips, intrigue and unvetted news from pekeng-periodistas!!!

    we, filipinos, are doooooooomed!

  19. Renato Pacifico Renato Pacifico

In Amerika and intelligent developed world outside of the Philippines, rookie cops wouldn’t even divulge the name of the victim, how the victim died, weapons of crime, when the victim died etcetera . rookie cops only tell the journalists that someone died in this address …

But in the intelligent Philippines, our ivy-league-foreign-educated Senate clowns in their invistigation of ZTE did an open hearing … so GMA already knows what was in the offing. These Senate clowns telegraphed what they found out and GMA was ready for air-tight rebuttal.

And the pekeng-periodistas happily, out of their ignorance and naivete, published the findings.

    How dumb!!!!

Amerikas rookie cops are much more intelligent than the Senate clowns. If Senate Clowns are looked up by Filipinos as intelligent I just wonder how much IQs the mass of filipinos have?

We could have nailed GMA but stupid invistigadores Senate Clowns are so dumb and stupid!!!!!

  20. Renato Pacifico Renato Pacifico

If Joey de Venenta is true to form that he’s a CEO this and that, instead of going to pekeng-periodistas on ZTE, he should have gone to FBI-Academy-trained-NBI-Agent-cum-lawyers so he can be wired.

If he did that this ZtE thing could have been over long time ago.

Since, Joey de Venenta is a Filipino, therefore, his analytical skills is so less than 10% that he fakkked up the whole thing from the very start….

It has gone down to mere hearsay …

ha!ha!ha!ha! filipinos you just don’t stop to amaze me!!!!!

keep it up filipinos so forex weaken and be laughing all the way to the bank … while you punk still talking about it …..

  21. Toney Cuevas Toney Cuevas

Again, whore Gloria screwed the people big time and dsplayed her incompetency once more. The appointment is nothing but a political pay back. A pay back for when Singson the liar lied during the trial of Erap. No one should be surprised that the whore appointed a known liar to join her. They deserve each other, and/or maybe is more to it than we know, about the whore and Singson. Moreover, the whore couldn’t careless about the future of the Philippines, the whore never did which is why the Philippines is where is at, down the sewer. Anyway, Singson will triple his private wealth once he gets hold of the Department’s budget. You can take that to the bank, it’s the norm.

  22. Why are you people against GMA when it’s not proven she corrupted?

Well part of the reason Renato Pacifico is that GMA should not have been in office in the first place because FPJ rightfully won.GMA won because of cheating. If you hear the tape of Garci–“Iyung dagdag, iyung dagdaga”. The other reason the congress could not impeach her, because Lozano and Pulido filed a weak impeachment case.

Why do you care if you don’t know why people hate GMA? I think that if you had any clue in what’s going on with government, and the concern in the running of our country, the war in Mindanao, the ZTE with 200 tongpats and a long list to mention, you would understand why people hate your president. And since obviously you don’t know why people hate her, then you almost shouldn’t even ask this question. Also, I do not know what side your on, but GMA is selling our country to the Chinese.I just hope our country don’t end-up in the “Philippines Republic of China” on your return address if you mail a correspondence to a friend in another country.

So,what RULE-OF-LAW or GOSSIPS, INTRIGUE AND UNVETTED NEWS from pekeng-periodistas!!!You choose? This crap has gone on long enough.I’m overly glad that her term in office is running out. And now I will leave you with this question:–
—–What things do you believe in?

Malacañang on Sunday invoked presidential prerogative in seeking to quell the controversy brought by the appointment of yet another defeated senatorial candidate to a key government position.

Isama niya si Oh my Gal so very..the two of them would make a good pair..or a good target?

It’s the height of absurdity and insanity. Oh yeah maybe Aling Gloria has gone insane in making the appointment, but she was just living up to her notoriety in appointing people as payback for her political debts never mind if they are qualified or competent enough to do the job. And that’s the one thing that you can’t take away from her; blind loyalty and endless gratitude to those concern.

After the appointments of the other election losers, a chavit appointment is expected to follow. In fact it’s already a little late in coming. But putting him as a deputy national security adviser is shocking. The man has more color than the face of a clown. How can a man who is known as a kingpin, jueteng lord, a criminal be appointed as a security adviser? How can a man with more record against the government serves under the same government? Where in this world can we find this stranger than fiction happenings? Only in the Philippines!

  34. jojovelas2005 jojovelas2005

Just read in a stramer in Camarines Sur – “PGMA Padangat kan Bicol by LRay Villafuerte and the Provincial Govt.” The Bicol word “Padangat” means mahal na mahal, much love or favorite. Strange, the Bicolanos I’ve met wants to puke whenever they hear gloria’s name. She attended the birthday celebration of his son Dato in Libmanan, Camarines Sur and then proceded to Iriga City to inaugurate some project and supposedly left behind promises worth P3 billion. Enough to satisfy her loyalist trapos of Bicol till 2010 for them to milk and steal from. Bicolanos see it as a waste of taxpayers money, the cost of the visit of gloria. Then you learn that she appointed senate loser chavit singson as deputy national security adviser. As expected Filipinos are quite and seems to accept this abuse like masochist. A travesty and tragedy.

    Friends,
We are witness to the dawning of a new age…Where the will of the people is subverted and shoved in our faces like feces. We see people resoundly rejected by the people being placed in sensitive positions, the likes of Recto, Chavit, Pichay et al – are laughing at us all the way to the bank (Swiss or Cayman Islands).

    An old friend commented:

“We Filipinos are being punished and made to suffer PGMA and her loyalist. We have squandered the opportunities given to us to uplift our lot. We have still long to suffer with the current crop of trapos”.

I fear this to be true. Almost all congressmen and senators are of the traditional politician mold. Even newly retired generals and officers of the military are molded as trapos. They expect to be appointed to civilian postings as reward for loyal services to the whims and caprices of the likes of PGMA.

So, what else is new in our country? We already have a housewife, a general, and an actor as head of state and government.

Now, RP has an actor as the anti-drugs czar.
A gambling lord was almost governor of Pampanga.
Now, a jueteng lord as deputy intellignece chief.

Sobra na itong pag-aabuso at paglalapastangan sa taumbayan na every now and then she will appoint a social and political reject to occupy a sensitive position in her government. Look at M. Lapid, Esperon, Neri, Recto, Pichay and now, the most corrupt politician from the North, Chavit Singson – puro accommodation lang talaga ito. One has to see how they performed. Si Esperon for example, dahil sa ignorance of the MOA and the concepts of negotiations, muntik na tayo magkahati-hati.

In other words, tetreyduran sila niyan at magtetreyduran silang lahat. Magkakalahi nga ang mga ungas.

    Kawawang bansa!

  51. bitchevil bitchevil

Anne, why those retired Generals appointed in civilian agencies? To keep their mouth shut. To lock their balls. And do you know why FVR is untouchable? Gloria never hits back even if he keeps attacking her? Many of his Generals are in her government, to name a few: Ermita, Mendoza, Lastimosa.

  53. bitchevil bitchevil

FYI, Orly Mercado is now RP Ambassador to China.

  54. Bitchdevil,

The ambassador to China is still that lady ambassador, Sonia Cataumber Brady. Orly, apparently, has not accepted the position. I hope he won’t. maganda naman ang trabaho niya sa Japan as a matter of fact. Marangal pa.

  55. Chabeli Chabeli

If I may quote a portion of Mr William M Esposo’s (Sunday, September 7, 2008), AS I WRECK THIS CHAIR column (“Resurrection, in more ways than one”):

“What poppycock! What humbug! What did we ever do collectively in our past lives to deserve these representatives!

Most of us wanted a perceived illegitimate ruler impeached. Did these congressmen even listen to us at all? NO, all they flaunted to our faces is that they have the numbers. Survey after survey, the majority expressed their desire for an impeachment process to settle the raging issue of the stolen 2004 presidential election. And these jackals have the gall and the temerity to boast to us that they have the numbers — that this is a numbers game!

Just what are the cretins going to consult us for? So they can add insult to injury?! Is that it?

Listen Speaker Prospero Nograles and your ilk. Your gift bag days in Malacañang are soon going to be over. The judgment of the people will soon be upon you. Do not tempt the fates. Everything has a breaking point. You may not want to be around when this nation decides that finally, enough is enough. You delude yourselves when you think that the people who taught the world the finer lessons of People Power have altogether forgotten the reasons of its success with that formula.

The country is at war, whether we like to admit it or not. There are superpowers that will fuel that war in Mindanao. Wars have a way of making the under control uncontrollable.

The equation has been altered beyond what you can control or even hope to influence. This is not the time to play dangerous games. This is not the time to be stupid. This is the time to rise above yourselves.”

  60. bitchevil bitchevil

Anne, don’t expect a devil to do good things. Singson has an evil record in his Province. Today, he’s still among the biggest operators of jueteng and other illegal businesses using his relatives as his dummies. Now that he’s the Deputy National Security Adviser, his illegal businesses will grow and expand. He will focus his intelligence work on his enemies, the opposition and those who are against the current government. Expect further arrests, kidnappings and killings.

Singson claims he’ll end hostilities in Mindanao (Tribune)

Hey, hey, hey!!!!

    Dear Mr Singson,

In case you do not know your job, allow me to help you a little bit of what i know about being a Deputy National Security Adviser.

First and foremost, your job is NOT to end the hostilities in Mindanao. Neither is it your job to be a peace negotiator, unless you are appointed as such in concurrent capacity. Definitely, you wouldn’t want to get the ire of Mr Esperon if you start taking on the role of a peace process adviser, as well.

Mr Singson, being a DNSA does NOT allow you to have a myopic view (Mindanao conflict) of the national security situation. In fact, it calls for a wider background of knowledge not limited to the MILF. Security threats does not only come from within, but also from without. You might even find yourself advising the President (ninakaw na pwesto) that some of her actions, if not most or all, are actually threats to national security. Would you be comfortable doing that Mr Singson?

But before you get too excited Mr Singson, remember that you are ONLY THE DEPUTY. There is another person higher in position than you. And being the Deputy, you only function once ordered or deputized to do a specific work or job. Unless that happens, you have nothing to do actually, Mr Singson, except to bite your nails in your office while planning your next criminal activities in the principal job you are familiar with that is based in Ilocos.

If I were you Mr Singson, make good your threat to resign even before you even assume that position of DNSA.

    God Save the Philippines!!!!

Singson may be a Deputy, but I bet you he will push his weight around and behave like he’s the boss. Singson doesn’t know his job description. The Evil Bitch placed him there to make him happy since there’s no other position for him. She cannot place him at Pagcor or Phil. Charity Sweepstakes where he’s more familiar with being a gambling lord himself. He accepted the position to protect his illegal business and go after his political and personal enemies.

    Another pay back?

A nephew of pro-administration Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago has bagged a deal to operate the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) golf course, Northern Samar Rep. Emil Ong revealed yesterday.

Ong said SBMA Chairman Feliciano Salonga and Administrator Armand Arreza have awarded the contract to run the golf course and its facilities to Benjamin John Defensor III, son of retired Gen. Benjamin Defensor, former Air Force and Armed Forces chief.

He said the award is anomalous since the previous lessees, who are Taiwanese investors, have pending court cases against Salonga and Arreza arising from their eviction for non-payment of rentals.

there is respectability in the ways of the underworld, this, is basically the message of Chavit Singson’s reported appointment to NSA’s second-highest post.

the appointee, is widely-remembered as a self-acknowledged racketeer/operator and protector of illegal numbers-game called jueteng, and of casinos.

Gloria, as the appointing party, in a stunningly shameless act, oblivious to morals and social repercussions, shows her willingness to devolve governance further to callously low-levels, and creates a depressingly new meaning of blending thuggery in government service.

all in exchange for her continued stay in office.

the illegal-gambling underworld families must be clinking their glasses right now at the news, for they have found not only an ally, but ONE of their own in the highest security levels of government officialdom.

how the Commission on Appointments will play, and justify Gloria’s ghastly latest act, is no longer a concern. they are expected to say, Amen, anyway.

am interested though, to what the CBCP (umm, the Philippines lowly, if not, rough equivalent of Iran’s mullahs) will have to say.

  66. The overseas Filipinos succeeded apparaently in convincing the Tapalani not to assign Pichay as OWWA director. At heaven forbid, lalong mangungurakot iyan!

Chavit was Chief of Police of Vigan, Ilocos Sur in 1964-1965, appointed by a Crisologo. Floro was Congressman, Carmeling the wife was Governor, and a brother of Floro was mayor. Chavit’s mother is the sister of the late Floro.

The 60s are remembered as the years of lawlessness in Ilocos Sur. Quite a nice achievement for the former Chief of Police.

In May 1970, Chavit’s first cousin Bingbong burned down Ora East and Ora Centro, as punishment to the villagers for voting for Chavit against Carmeling, in 1969.

    http://www.abrenian.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=327

So if Chavit could not secure the villagers who supported him, how do you expect him to secure the country? And the burning was done by his skinny first-cousin and a bunch of saka-sakas (barefoot thugs).

Man of peace? Yeah right. Tell that to the Ilokanos who remember the years of violence starring Chavit versus first-cousin Bingbong.

Of course, people can change; after all, Bingbong is now born again. But where is the experience in peace-making? Neither is there ample experience in law-enforcement, considering the minuscule one year experience in 1964-1965, in the Wild Wild West days of Ilocos Sur.

Do we expect a man who could not stand up against Carmeling to stand up against the rebels? Carmeling must be snickering in her grave.

Singson brags about his experience as Chief of Police in Vigan; but didn’t say it was only for one year.

“Ilocos Sur CoA provincial auditor Agustin Chan was closing his investigation of the financial shenanigans of an Ilocos Sur governor’s various funds and projects, from an invisible tomato paste plant to billions in tobacco subsidies that could not be found until it was traced back by Agustin Chan to the governor. Before Chan could finalize his report he was gunned down in Barrio Bantay, Ilocos Sur, and killed along with his driver Alex Recacho on Oct. 4, 2001. If motive is a primary element in murder then the governor Agustin Chan was investigating should have been the chief suspect, yet there has never been an investigation of the subject. In fact, over the years under Gloria Arroyo, this suspect has risen to the highest ranks of government power.”

  73. Missy Missy

This reminds me when Gloria, not withstanding critiques, retained Angel Reyes and Corpus in her slates…because she intend to use them to bully those who will oppose her. This time it should be a telling of the same intention… she does not intend to leave the executive post no matter what, no matter how long, and just as she did it before, regardless of the paper-no-good constitution daw of the Philippines abogagos are waving around. So those
“educated” english-spokening penoys…should not even try to pretend that they will fight her. They can’t. It has been so tested over and over through the years…what matters is that food on the table comes on time and the rest be damned.

The list of Sabit’s mafia like crimes go on and on. And this is what the evil bitch put as one of her security advicers? Too bad for the 80 million plus Filipinos who are dragged into all these!

  81. bitchevil bitchevil

I can think of three possible reasons why Singson was appointed to the post:

    1. Before Erap was pardoned by GMA, Singson threatened to withdraw his support from her if Erap was pardoned. Singson further threatened to tell all what he knew about GMA’s crimes.

    2. Singson was placed at National Security Agency to guard Norberto Gonzales. That’s what’s called “counter intelligence”.

    3. Fearing that Erap might indeed run in 2010, GMA needs Singson’s help to stop Erap. Singson can resurrect Erap’s old cases and create new cases to harass the latter.

    Chavit: ‘I killed a few’

President Joseph Estrada’s accuser has lived a life that is far from
    saintly.

His life is one for the movies – brimming with action, guns and goons,
warring clans, blood and corpses, money, infidelity, high-stakes gambling,
cheating, the very rich and the very poor, politics and power and, lately.
    betrayal.

Now Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis “Chavit” Singson, 59, is invoking the name of God.

“Maybe this is God’s will,” he says. “Maybe God wants it to happen this
    way.”

In an early-morning, one-on-one interview at his home here. Singson talks
about his life and the national tempest he has whipped up. He’s an early

    War continues in Mindanao:

MANILA, Philippines — (UPDATE 4) At least six civilians, including children and a pregnant 18-year-old woman, died in military air strikes targeting Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels in Maguindanao province on Monday, local officials said.

Anthony Golez, deputy presidential spokesman, said Singson would focus more on the analysis of intelligence reports.

No surprise, jueteng ‘intelligence’ reports are considered highly confidential under Pidalism.

  99. bitchevil bitchevil

FYI, Anthony Golez is going to have a permanent eyebrow done.

  100. chi,

    **************

Isang taon lang pala naging chief of police more than 40 years ago, highly-qualified na raw sabi ni Spokesman Golez na may langka plantation.

Forty years ago, musmos pa ako at nanghuhuli ako ng dalag at gourami sa pusali, ibig bang sabihin pwede na ako sa Fisheries?

There is a similarity between the US bombing of civilians in Afghanistan that killed many women and children with that of the RP soldiers’ recent bombing of Mindanao killing also civilians. Guess who the mentor was?

  104. atty36252 atty36252

A little trivia. It seems, Romulo Neri owes his current position to the arch-rival of Chavit, Floro Crisologo.

Floro Crisologo (house bill) along with Cipriano Primicias and Manuel Briones (senate bill) authored the Social Security Act. At least may na-accomplish ang dating warlord.

The other warlord, Chavit, in his campaign material, touts himself as the Father of EDSA Dos.

    What say you civil society?

God did not make the Philippines poor. God has given the people a choice. One can choose to be good or bad; one can choose to be rich or poor.
