What to expect of Obama presidency

Washington — Barack Obama’s victory in the 2008 presidential election puts a Democrat in charge of the White House for the first time since Bill Clinton left office in January 2001.

Below are some of the possible consequences of the move:

• Obama has promised an orderly withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq and a greater focus on the war in Afghanistan. Democrats will call on him to carry out his pledge, but the gains that have been made in Iraq in recent months may make it tempting for Obama to stop short of his pledge to pull out one combat brigade per month until they are all withdrawn.

• In order to stimulate the weak US economy, Obama and the Democrats are likely to reach an agreement on a second stimulus package to try to get consumers spending again, unless such a package is approved before Obama takes office January 20.

• Obama is likely to take further steps to regulate the financial industry in the wake of a credit crisis that infected Wall Street and triggered a stock meltdown that cost Americans billions of dollars in retirement savings.

• Obama ran on a pledge to give Americans who make less than $200,000 a year a tax cut, thus reaching 95 percent of taxpayers, and raise taxes on those making above $250,000 a year. With him and Democratic congressional leaders in charge, this pledge may be scaled back to give fewer people a tax cut and to include more people among those who would face higher taxes.

• Obama has said he would be willing to meet, without preconditions, with leaders of countries hostile to the United States, such as Iran, Cuba and Venezuela. Look for increased U.S. diplomatic activity with those countries with the aim of determining whether an Obama meeting with the leaders would be worthwhile. – Reuters

The Iraqi gov’t wouldn’t want an immediate pull-out of US troops. They know that such a move would create a vacuum that would be hard to fill up the void. He must weigh things carefully before acting on this campaign promise. Such move would also be dangerous for the remaining dwindling numbers of troops. Just think what would happen to the last few combat brigades that will be evacuated. It would be a feast day for their enemies that will surely be surrounding or swarming all around them.

Obama made it clear: The job of restoring America’s economy and future is not his alone but everyone. It can’t be done overnight…not even in his first year or this term. The damage and mess he inherited from Bush administration is so serious that it’s going to take close to a miracle to solve. But, change is now. It shall begin very soon. Did you see that crowd chanting outside of the White House Gate? They all wanted Bush to leave the White House immediately. I hope it happens to the Philippines. If not now…in 2010 when we all bang the Malacanang Gate and ask her to leave giving way to the new President from the opposition.

One thing noticeable during the election night. When McCain was giving his congratulatory speech and mentioned Obama’s name, the crowd booed Obama. At Obama’s huge rally in Chicago, the crowd clapped when Obama mentioned McCain. See the difference?

What’s Sarah Palin going to do? She might host a Talk Show. After all, this Hockey Mom loves to talk and talk.

Obama is a world of talent. Am sure he studied errors made by past administrations. Key cabinet members will be scrutinized to the bone to ensure harmonious working environment. If thieves gets past his screening tests, Fox News and it’s sinister tentacles are just around the corner.

CNN was receiving various phone calls this morning – and yes, some white folks down the deep, deep south are still barking expletives. Bunches of twits and twats, should just get over it and move on, then again – that’s the deep, deep south, much like Orange County in California.

BE – she’s got some problems in Alaska to deal with. Honestly for me, even a talk show hosting will not prosper, she will have some followers but it will die down. Her voice alone makes me sick.

With Obama’s victory, White House would be changed to Black House.

  7. With regards to Iraq, here’s a glimpse of what Obama’s decision making might be. This is a portion of Obama’s interview with TIME magazine:

Q] Let me ask you about a situation like that. I have been collecting accounts of your meeting with David Petraeus in Baghdad. And you had [inaudible] after he had made a really strong pitch [inaudible] for maximum flexibility. A lot of politicians at that moment would have said [inaudible] but from what I hear, you pushed back.

[BO] I did. I remember the conversation, pretty precisely. He made the case for maximum flexibility and I said you know what if I were in your shoes I would be making the exact same argument because your job right now is to succeed in Iraq on as favorable terms as we can get. My job as a potential commander in chief is to view your counsel and your interests through the prism of our overall national security which includes what is happening in Afghanistan, which includes the costs to our image in the middle east, to the continued occupation, which includes the financial costs of our occupation, which includes what it is doing to our military. So I said look, I described in my mind at list an analogous situation where I am sure he has to deal with situations where the commanding officer in [inaudible] says I need more troops here now because I really think I can make progress doing x y and z. That commanding officer is doing his job in Ramadi, but Petraeus’s job is to step back and see how does it impact Iraq as a whole. My argument was I have got to do the same thing here. And based on my strong assessment particularly having just come from Afghanistan were going to have to make a different decision. But the point is that hopefully I communicated to the press my complete respect and gratitude to him and Proder who was in the meeting for their outstanding work. Our differences don’t necessarily derive from differences in sort of, or my differences with him don’t derive from tactical objections to his approach. But rather from a strategic framework that is trying to take into account the challenges to our national security and the fact that we’ve got finite resources.

I’m so glad that Obama won. But to be honest with you, I don’t really care as a Filipino. Obama just like all other US leaders would only serve his country’s interest.

  9. With Obama’s victory, White House would be changed to Black House.

BE- you being an Obama supporter, I know your just making a joke. But seriously, with the election of Obama, America has shown the world is a country of diversity in it’s truest sense. No other country EVER has shown this. But racism will not go away overnight. On my way to work this morning, I listened to one of the talk radios – Dennis Miller in particular. One called said he will not work anymore.Since Obama will be the president, he will just collect his food stamps and government assistance. One caller made fun of Jesse Jackson’s crying. But the one thing that bothered me the most was Dennis Miller saying “even my Filipino maid was so happy Obama won”. He could have just said “MAID”. But I guess it’s just normal to them to be prejudiced to a “colored” person. Kung sabagay, may mga Pinoy na ayaw kay Obama just because of the color of his skin.

Call center agents are not happy kasi Obama will bring back the jobs here in US…mababawasan na ang outsourcing.

Ganito sana ang mangyari sa pinas peaceful election at after na magsara ang precints malalaman mo na. I don’t know what happened to Namfrel since texting method is really a fast way to know the result or kahit paano may idea ka na kung sino ang lalamang.

Well, sa tingin namin kasi kahit sinong candidate ng democrat will win..katunayan house and senate are now dominated by democrats proving na if you stay long in office and ruin economy then you’re out…sana pinas lang yata hindi nangyayari yan. Those who lied and corrupt nandiyan pa rin sila.

  11. bitchevil bitchevil

There’s always pros and cons…trade off. An Obama Administration would benefit some sectors while harm some. At the end of the day, Americans will think of their country first than other nations. I’m not borrowing McCain’s line. It’s a fact. The only difference with Obama is that it’s a little more balanced. America won’t be as arrogant as she was especially during Bush’s regime.

  12. bitchevil bitchevil

In general, analysts agree that Gov. Sarah Palin weakened rather than strengthened McCain’s failed White House bid. On an accounting balance sheet, she proved to be more of a liability than an asset. More than McCain, it has been Palin who has opted to play the race card and the hate card towards the end of the campaign. Desperate? Maybe. Or maybe that’s how she really is. One wrong choice ruined it for McCain.

  13. With Obama’s Presidency, I personally expect no more American confrontations abroad, no more “let’s invade another country”, it’s been years of bloody ugly Americans and I’m just proud to be part of this history where I can say, it’s one moment in time that I can truly say, I’m really proud to be an American. Obama stands for so many things to me. One of which is that… he is a leader.

What I like in a leader is someone who inspires. Someone who offers hope. Someone who like Obama one gifted speaker and orator that can rally a nation in times of national grief or national crisis. I see that in Obama. It’s not the same Bill Clinton charisma, but he delivers that inspiration. You see, if you think you’re a leader and no one is following you, you are just having a leisurely walk in the park.

There’s a lot of expectations for Obama of course. Unfortunately, he’s inheriting a house in shambles with the economy as number 1 priority.

Having worked here for so many years, and whether some quarters hate America or what not, whatever they do here affects the world. I only hope for a strong American economy because it means a better world economy and for my Philippines too.

Enough with the personal attacks on Obama.

  14. Bad times have scientific value. The “American dream” is the idea of the happy ending.

I did not vote for Obama and don’t have much hope for him to accomplish anything positive. However, it would be best for the country if he could. One thing is for sure, after Jan 20, they cannot blame the Republicans anymore. It is squarely on the new President and Democrat controlled Congress. They will succeed or fail on their own. I just hope we get honesty from the press coverage.

I think he will make an excellent president. However, he doesnt understand the inner workings on wall st and couldnt tell you the first thing on how to clear up junk level mortgage backed securities. I just hope he appoints people that do have even a novice understanding. he also talks about saving American Home owner’s homes by doing loan mods, which appears to be a brand new term to him and his campaign. We’ve been doing these in CA for a few years now- and guess what, they’re arent working.

The market and the educated voter, have shown that Obama wasn’t the right pick for President. He is inexperienced to handle the kind of issues facing America. Whats worse is the people he has surrounded himself with are no better…in fact worse. Thanks to a liberal media, who had not one article on a positive for McCain, Obama got the votes; its a shame that the media has that kind of control. At least Russia is happy Obama got in, they know Obama will not challenge them so they are moving missles closer to U.S,

From todays news…..President Dmitri Medvedev took advantage of the euphoria in America today to order the deployment of missiles inside Europe as a response to US plans for a missile defense shield.

We don’t need to worry about Russia. We also need to worry about those towel heads in Pakistan that have nukes.

“We don’t need to worry about Russia”…yea we’ll just blow up one of their aspirin factories like Clinton did in Afghanistan. Obama and Clinton’s Foreign Policy is a joke. Hope we won’t be bombed within a year again…

Asking the next administration to fix the present problems is like asking an auto mechanic to fix the space shuttle! Also, these problems don’t exist in a vacuum. In case nobody noticed, there is a lot of world out there besides America… The decline of America has clearly started.. the only question is how will it go down.. gracefully or not.. I know what I think. What about others?

  15. chi chi

    cocoy,

Ikaw naman. You said that you “think he will make an excellent president” How would it happen when I have not read anything good you said about his incoming presidency. hehe! joke only.

Anyway, though I place no high hopes for his presidency because of the current economic situation and the would-be inherited wars from Bush, I believe that Barack will rule from the center just like Bill. He knows the consequencies of going too far left. America is not cut for that system. Ayan nga at pumiyok na agad ang mga Joe the Plummers, sample pa lang yan.

Even with both houses dominated by Dems, I still believe in the strong check and balance among the three branches. Ang mga Representatives naman ay sumusunod sa gusto ng kanilang constituents.

  16. chi chi

Barack’s pledge of withdrawal of US troops in Iraq specified in his time frame is the subject of my bet with the hubby. I agree with Reuters that the gains might temp Obama “to stop short of his pledge” in this area. The hubby thought otherwise. I hope he is right. Di bale ng matalo ako sa bet, matigil na lang ang gera sa Iraq.

I also agree with Mike that “such move would also be dangerous for the remaining dwindling numbers of troops.”

  17. bitchevil bitchevil

You’re correct, Chi. Cocoy never said any good thing about Obama.

We don’t expect Obama to solve the problems overnight. Even if he’s not an expert on everything; he has advisers and experts around him. Good leader with good people around equals success. Look at the Evil Bitch…Bad leader with bad people around equals disaster.

  18. bitchevil bitchevil

What gains in Iraq, chi? Did the US find the mass weapon of destruction? Did they officially and positively link Saddam to Bin Laden? Or the US is able to control the oil line at least temporarily?

  19. Chi,
As the other blogger have said, either Obama or any other Dem candidate will surely win. That’s very sad because For eight years the American people – especially the Dems – have been under the impression that everything in this country was Bush’s fault. The problem with that argument is that Bush pretty much was doing the bidding of the public – example – in 2003 right before the invasion of Iraq, 80+ percent of the American people were for the Iraq Fiasco (not that many of them would admit so now of course). What the Obama presidency is going to do is slap the citizens upside the head with the brutal truth – that politicians are simply a reflection of the populace – and it is the citizens of this country that are the most corrupt of all. Go look at a chart of 1929-1932 and then look at the 2007-2008 charts – it’s a slow-mo replay of the last GD. Obama gets to play Hoover this time around. And the American people will be so much poorer in four years than you could ever possibly believe. Dems, Repubs, who cares ? We all suck. Great Depression 2.0 – couldn’t happen to a more deserving bunch.

It is not about race either,It doesn’t matter to me if Obama is Black,Brown,Purple, white or yellow because Black slavery was outlawed many years ago,But,because a black man is elected president, are we going to see a white slavery? Will Obama replace the National anthem with some Hip Hpo or Rap Craps? Are the crisps and bloods going to replace our armed forces? will our children be taught to use gang sign language? If so,I have one finger message for them.

So stop spreading the race card that Obama is black.

I just hope Obama hold true to his world that the U.S. should not depend on the world’s dirty and polluting fossil fuel and start some meaningful environmental program. But the question is where will the U.S. get its oil supply, other than the dirty fossil fuel of The Saudi and the even dirtier oil sands of Alberta and Saskatchewan? and even Valenzuela? Unless the U.S. Automakers can put out alternative powered cars soon, (now that means more subsidies or government loans to the Big 3) the u.s. will be importing the dirty oils and Obama will have to bear it.

  21. asiandelight asiandelight

I think people need to understand that the war in IRAQ is about oil. Who will protect China’s investment, European Investmen and US investment if Obama hastily pulls the troops. Obama must be careful, US has debt to China that cannot be ignored.
The country in Iraq requires security so that the people of Iraq can enjoy their resources. The Iraq government lacks the infrastructure and financial capabilities to dig their own oil. It was only for Saddam. When the war broke down, some of these infrastructures were destroyed thus the term REBUILD for Iraq is common but misunderstood. Rebuilding is securing borders. Without security , extremists will destroy probably almost all foreign investments ( China PET, Europe, Exxon, BP petroleum) , the result would be higher oil prices as demand exceeds supply. The local Iraqi people may go deeper into recession.
US services to Iraq such as military, refineries, consultancy on Oil growth and other skills is truly what the end result of the war.
Who is really more experience in military, refineries and security. Is it not the US? Iraq will better off getting consultative services from the US. Just like the US-Saudi relationship.

  22. Globally, everyone is cheering because we’ve elected the most liberal em-effer, Russia celebrates with missles going toward Poland, and the Dow tips its hat to Obama and says “Welcome – we sure like you.” How do I explain to my kids why 62 million Americans could be so naive and think he will do so much. What a liar! In the end, he will tax everyone and give it to people who pay no taxes, or he will have to borrow money from China to give to the American people in the form of a ‘rebate check.’ Is that what we call “looking out for the middle class.” What an act. Our national debt is going to skyrocket even more with so many Left winged bafoons in Washington, and my children will be left picking up the mess.

    Well taken, Cocoy.

I just couldn’t take the race issue in this campaign. Come on, this is the 21st century, hindi na dapat issue ang color ng skin. This was a ridiculous issue that unfortunately became one of the winning cards of the Barack’s campaign. Let’s admit, it was a smart card.

Cocoy, there you go again…If those eight bad years was not Bush’s fault; at least mainly attributed to his economic and foreign policies, then who’s to blame? He took over a presidency from Clinton with a budget surplus. Look at now. His battle with Gore was a very controversial one. If to prove this now that Florida voted for Obama; Gore was cheated in Florida. It was a 5-4 decision for the US Supreme Court. With pain in his heart. Gore took the defeat admirably. Not with McCain. He was a loser from the very beginning made worse by picking the big mouth Palin.

Let me throw this question to you? Do you blame Arroyo, the Evil Bitch, for her eight years of presidency? Bush and GMA are the same in so many ways.

  31. bitchevil bitchevil

Cocoy, you pointed out that Russia is intimidating the US in time with Obama’s victory. Russia has always been that way whoever the President is. Let’s wait how Obama would take care of it. As for those bandits in Pakistan, the Taliban just said they’re willing to negotiate now. The truth of the matter is, many world leaders don’t like to deal with Bush. With Obama, they may be more accommodating.

Rose, what has religion got to do with a good President? Assuming Obama is not a Christian, is there any problem with that? You can’t just expect every leader to be Christian…or Catholic like you. Look at your Catholic Philippine President, the Evil Bitch. Many have the guts to swear on the Bible but their deeds show otherwise.

  34. I agree with you chi, Obama will rule from the center. A few baby steps towards the left may be encouraging enough to keep his supporters but thats how far it will go. Centuries of right-wing conservativism can’t be undone that fast.

What’s positive in this outcome is that globally, Obama is viewed as a chance for world unity with America’s role as coordinator, far from Bush’ failed image as dominator.

No more “Either you’re with us or against us”.

  35. bitchevil bitchevil

And Rose, if you’re asking if Obama is mix raced or multinational, he has only two races in his blood: Caucasian and African (Kenya). Aren’t you still convinced that Obama was born in Hawaii? The election is over…or are you filing a complaint questioning his citizenship?

War on Iraq again.. I think people really need to understand supply and demand of OIL. Every body knows that China is the second largest consumer of OIL without their own oil. Remember our Spratleys?
The United States, China, and the race for oil security

China and the United States—which together consumed 33
percent of the oil produced last year are engaged in a contest for preferred access to remaining reserves.

Although the U.S. strategy is based not on physically controlling oil fields but, rather, on maintaining a stable price for crude oil on the global market.

Yet China, too, has begun to use its military to protect its investments and—indirectly—to open new oil markets.

  38. This is what Peggy Noonan, Ronald Reagan’s special Secretary is saying about this em-effer:

The case for Barack Obama, in broad strokes:

He has within him the possibility to change the direction and tone of American foreign policy, which need changing; his rise will serve as a practical rebuke to the past five years, which need rebuking; his victory would provide a fresh start in a nation in which a fresh start would come as a national relief. He climbed steep stairs, born off the continent with no father to guide, a dreamy, abandoning mother, mixed race, no connections. He rose with guts and gifts. He is steady, calm, and, in terms of the execution of his political ascent, still the primary and almost only area in which his executive abilities can be discerned, he shows good judgment in terms of whom to hire and consult, what steps to take and moves to make. We witnessed from him this year something unique in American politics: He took down a political machine without raising his voice.

A great moment: When the press was hitting hard on the pregnancy of Sarah Palin’s 17-year-old daughter, he did not respond with a politically shrewd “I have no comment,” or “We shouldn’t judge.” Instead he said, “My mother had me when she was 18,” which shamed the press and others into silence. He showed grace when he didn’t have to.

There is something else. On Feb. 5, Super Tuesday, Mr. Obama won the Alabama primary with 56% to Hillary Clinton’s 42%. That evening, a friend watched the victory speech on TV in his suburban den. His 10-year-old daughter walked in, saw on the screen “Obama Wins” and “Alabama.” She said, “Daddy, we saw a documentary on Martin Luther King Day in school.” She said, “That’s where they used the hoses.” Suddenly my friend saw it new. Birmingham, 1963, and the water hoses used against the civil rights demonstrators. And now look, the black man thanking Alabama for his victory.

This means nothing? This means a great deal.

  39. Bitchevil
G.W.Bush inhireted the economic mess from Clinton. The problem started in Clinton’s admin with the Community Re-devolpment Act Loan money to anyone who can legally cheat their income for ability to pay for what they loaned that ended up in a 700 billion bailouts.

Well at least Obama promise he can start fixing this in two years and finish in four. Remember Jimmy “Peabrain” Carter.

It is his responisbility to turn it around, Good luck to the new guy. Didn’t vote for him, No way ! I hope he goes into this with both eyes open. He could balance the budget if he just redistribute Oprah’s wealth & Warren Buffetts. These guys better be careful what they voted for. Can’t we all just get along. I still want my share of the bailout. Can’t some one else pay my bills. I need what ever you got that is free, Sign me up, No need to pay credit cards off, No more house payment , Better go finance a new care before they change there minds. Just give give give give. I don’t have any idea where it is coming from, But I want it all for free.

  40. Another positive thing, the Stock Market! Look, all the bourses, except Australia’s ASX200 I think, was in the green all day. Investors from all over were betting that America had just made the right decision and the inflow of more cash is just the shot in the arm America’s economy, and that of the rest of the world, terribly needs. I’m not sure it would have happened if McCain-Palin had won.

Obama brought hope, at least for 2 days going, that it would be wiser to invest your money now than keeping it behind the wall picture. I’ve made a few bets myself, there are enough bargain picks out there that are too tempting to resist.

  41. In the excitement and euphoria when your gamecock wins, it’s a natural tendency to gloat. But when the hubbub dies down, it is back to the real world.
When America sneezes, the world catches a cold, or so the old saying goes. America is the world’s largest consumer driven economy, and the US economy has hit some bumps in the road. The U.S. is grappling with a financial crisis that is rippling globally. And Obama is challenged not just with how history books will be kind or harsh but how to stem the crisis from becoming a pandemic.
Poor and hungry Pinoyland, starving under a regime headed by a self-styled economist that does not economize, is among the nations threatened by a socialist-bent (aka distribution of wealth) isolationist America. Even Putin’s Russia is suffocating in the economic crisis. That’s my reality check.

  42. It’s time to cash in, close the doors, and lay off workers. There’s a new Pres. coming to town and he’s made it very clear he will redistribute every hardworkers hard-earned money. You might be saying “well if you make over 250K then boo hoo for you…” Well let me tell you just how hard it is being a business owner, sacrificing their livelihood, time with there kids, there goals, and there hard earned money into this business with the expectation that what they earn is going to be taken from them and given to *someone* who didn’t work as hard, or spend as much time away from their 7 and 5 year old children, who risks all their money into what they’re doing. If you ask any business owner, having Obama win the presidency has undoubtedly closed the pocket book of damn near all business owners. They won’t be buying new construction trucks, they won’t be investing in specialized training, how will they pay for there company health care, how will they pay for all 10 of there business insurance policies? It makes it that much harder to succeed when the little money that small business does make (and makes working the hard way) is going to be taken right out of the mouths of there kids.

  43. Bush and GMA are the same in so many ways.

Gloria seems to be mysteriously and annoyingly persistent meeting or calling US Presidents. Why?

The headline in today’s The Daily Tribune says – Gloria gets Obama snub, to again seek meeting in US visit

On her last trip to US, Pres. Obama snubbed her while McCain met her for only 5 minutes. On the same trip, she did not have the red carpet treatment while Vietnam’s president did.

What did she really want? Is it money, term extension or asylum?

If you stop attacking Obama, then I shall stop, Cocoy. Buy some beer and get drunk. That’s the way to solve your frustration. Or ask a plumber to hammer your head.

Yes, Taliban existed long ago. But who knows…they might be willing to negotiate with the US this time. America’s enemies just didn’t trust Bush. Before one negotiates, there should be trust and respect. Obama might not be able to solve all the problems, domestic and foreign; but at least he could try to lessen the current crisis.

  52. It was a one-sided event.

Would have been better if it was between Obama vs. Ron Paul, or Kucinich vs. Paul.

Now the big question would be…

Who will be the Obama for the Pilipens?

    Rose,

  56. Obama is a Christian born in Hawaii. looked like negative campaigning work. even to this day a lot of people think Obama is a muslim.

  57. Golberg Golberg

  58. Bitchevil,
Don’t worry about it.The topic on all media pundits and on the net will be focus on Obama. You see now, they started with Michele’s Obama’s bold dress. This is more than a sisig or pinapaitan over a lot of cases of beer and pack of cigarettes.

  61. It’s okay to be american again.

    From the Associated Press….

    By WILLIAM J. KOLE

VIENNA, Austria (AP) – She was a stranger, and she kissed me. Just for being an American.

It happened on the bus on my way to work Wednesday morning, a few hours after compatriots clamoring for change swept Barack Obama to his historic victory. I was on the phone, and the 20-something Austrian woman seated in front of me overheard me speaking English.

Without a word, she turned, pecked me on the cheek and stepped off at the next stop.

Nothing was said, but the message was clear: Today, we are all Americans.

  64. Obama is no novice to politics unlike Cory Aquino of old. He’s intelligent and easy to grasp things to be able to know what is good and what is bad and what to do about them. Problem is he cannot do the unmending of all the wrongs done by Bush all by himself. He needs the cooperation of all Americans, Republicans, Democrats, etc.

It isn’t an easy job to do but with his training as an NGO prior to entering politics, he can surely find a way to solve a lot many US woes.

Hail to the new US president! Gotta prepare now what to wear during his inauguration. Right now, I am waiting for some invitation like the one I got during his campaign in California. I might just as well sign up for the special trip with the residents of Obama in Fukui-ken, Japan to the White House in January. 🙂

Right on there Tongue…I bet most Americans do not have any Idea who their chief Electoral Officer is, because whoever he or she maybe, he and his staff will be working behind the scene to make sure that the election is free of any controversy and as quick as possible. Same thing here, the only time people heard or read about our Chief when he had some “spat” with the PM, about some spending issues the Election before the last one. they still have lawsuits before the court. And the PM appointed him to the post.

    THE ANT AND THE GRASSHOPPER

THE CLASSIC VERSION – The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The Grasshopper thinks he’s a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The grasshopper has no food or shelter so he dies out in the cold.

THE MODERN VERSION – The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The Grasshopper thinks he’s a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving. CBS, NBC,CNN and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food. “America” is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so? Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper, and everybody cries when they sing “It’s Not Easy Being Green.” Political figures make a special guest appearance on the CBS Evening News to tell a concerned Katie Couric that they will do everything they can for the grasshopper who has been denied the prosperity he deserves by those who benefited unfairly during the previous administration’s summers. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton stage a demonstration in front of the ant’s house where the news stations film the group singing “We shall overcome”. Jesse then has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper’s sake. Another political figure exclaims in an interview with Peter Jennings that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and calls for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his “fair share”.
Finally, the EEOC drafts the “Economic Equity and Anti-Ant Act”, retroactive to the beginning of the summer. The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the government.
The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last bits of the ant’s food while the government house he is in, which just happens to be the ant’s old house, crumbles around him since he doesn’t maintain it.
The ant has disappeared in the snow. And on the TV, which the grasshopper bought by selling most of the ant’s food, they are showing yet another political figure standing before a wildly applauding group announcing that a new era of “fairness” has dawned in America. The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the once peaceful neighborhood.

A moral to this story? Blessed are the saints who have been equipped with the sound doctrines of TULIP!

  68. OT: It was not jusr 105,000 euros the Russians confiscated from De La Paz, it was 150,000 euros!

According to Inquirer, the additional 45,000 was supposed to have been used to buy a Roger Dubuis Bi-Retro Chrono Perpetual Calendar and/or an IWC Portuguese Chrono Watch in white gold casing in Vienna, Austria for a certain Tyrone Ng Arejola, a “very close friend”.

This isn’t true. An RD Hommage Bi-retro perpetual costs around US$46,000 and is a limited edition series of which only about 30 pcs. are produced. It is no longer available on the open market. The Int’l Watch Co. Portuguese Chrono, though is much cheaper (around US$15,000).

The Roger Dubuis is available only from collectors in Switzerland and not in Austria. De La Paz was going to Poland, not Switzerland, the excuse was therefore stupid.

The IWC can be bought in Ebay the friend can buy it online, no need for De la Paz’ help.

  69. Obama victory sparks cheers around the globe

PARIS – Barack Obama’s election as America’s first black president unleashed a renewed love for the United States after years of dwindling goodwill, and many said Wednesday that U.S. voters had blazed a trail that minorities elsewhere could follow.

People across Africa stayed up all night or woke before dawn to watch U.S. history being made, while the president of Kenya — where Obama’s father was born — declared a public holiday.

In Indonesia, where Obama lived as child, hundreds of students at his former elementary school erupted in cheers when he was declared winner and poured into the courtyard where they hugged each other, danced in the rain and chanted “Obama! Obama!”

“Your victory has demonstrated that no person anywhere in the world should not dare to dream of wanting to change the world for a better place,” South Africa’s first black president, Nelson Mandela, said in a letter of congratulations to Obama.

Many expressed amazement and satisfaction that the United States could overcome centuries of racial strife and elect an African-American as president.

“This is the fall of the Berlin Wall times ten,” Rama Yade, France’s black junior minister for human rights, told French radio. “America is rebecoming a New World.

What to Expect from Obama’s Administration is to be aggresive with Energy Independence.

I would like to share this letter which I am prompted to share because it affects the entire Philippines. As a subscriber of the Pickens’ Plan for some months, may I request you to read Mr. Pickens’ very serious newsletter which can affect your family and loved ones:

“Last month the President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, predicted that “the American empire is reaching the end of the road”.

The world is facing a recession, money is getting incredibly tight and people are losing their jobs and wondering what tomorrow will bring.

And what do we do? We keep sending our money to foreign countries to buy oil.

5 years ago OPEC nations were taking in 250 billion dollars for their oil.

This year they’ll take in 1 TRILLION, 250 billion dollars.

Imagine that! Here we are, in the middle of a recession and we’re sending the very dollars we need for a recovery to a bunch of people that don’t even like us.

We have to start using our own wind, solar and natural gas. And we need to start paying for it by keeping the money here at home instead of sending it to the Middle East and Africa.

We’re in a crack! A bad one! And it’s getting worse by the day!

I know I’ve asked a lot of you these past few weeks, but dammit, I don’t want this opportunity to slip away from you. Let these guys know what you think. Show them that you care – that you want more than words this time around.

-Sign the petition and get others to do the same. We have 1,304,271 people in the Army — let’s get it up to 1,400,000 by Election Day.

-Deliver a copy of the “What’s Your Plan?” Petition to your local campaign headquarters for Senators McCain and Obama.

-Spend 30 minutes outside of your polling place asking your neighbors to lend their support to the Pickens Plan. We’ll be sending you more information about this tomorrow.

I’ve said it before, but every President since Nixon has said we’ll get off foreign oil — every single one of them. But in 1973 we were importing just 24% of our oil — and now it’s nearly 70%.

Were these guys lying to us? Are Senators Obama and McCain lying to us? Probably not. But there is a very good chance they didn’t know how serious the problem is.

Well let me tell you — it’s serious! Very serious!

Like Iran, nations all over the world think we’re on our knees. Maybe it’s just one knee and the other is wobbling. But whatever it is, the bottom line is that we have the ability to get off our knees and stand tall. We have the ability, right now, to stop our addiction to foreign oil and get this economy going again. And we can start today.

You and I are making a difference. Over 500 elected officials have signed the Pickens Pledge — Congressmen, Senators, Governors and Mayors — all across this country. You helped make that happen.

I’m so very grateful for your confidence in me and this plan. Together we’re going to make this plan happen and save this great country of ours from going deeper into the hole.”
    Boone

  84. As far as the Iraqi war is concerned; it really doesn’t matter much who is president. We are going to be fighting in the Middle East for a long time. We can do it now at, more or less, the same level. Or, we can fight them later (2 to 5 years) at a level that (God Forbid) might include nuclear war. i.e., Iran, North Korea, and who knows who else.

  85. Illegal aliens are rejoicing on Obama’s win because some believe that by the time Barak move in the White house with a new puppies for his children, they will receive their US passport.

I do not agree in letting 12 million illegal with just a slap on the wrist. If they want to live in our country they should have to go fight for it. Send them to Iraq let them help fight for our country.I got in more trouble driving without insurance then the 12million illegal did without a driver license.

It is amnesty with a candy coating and disrespectful to the immigrants who have have followed the law to obtain legal authorization to work in the U.S. and/or have obtained U.S. citizenship.

  86. According to survey, There are about 300 million people here, and about 275 million legal ones. The citizens are paying for this and what is happening to this country. Our health care cost is going out of control, because we provide free health care for illegals without insurance., and why should we grant drop babies citizenship, in order to become a citizen you must legally here., our school sytems is over worked from illegal immigrants who dont want to learn our english, and paying bi-lingual teachers, . Our legal system is over worked for all the drugs, gangs, and other crimes that illegals bring to this country. So why dont our government listen, see what is happening to our great country!!!! We must take a stand and enforce our laws and Secure our borders and provide enough manpower to stop these illegals or terrorist from crossing into our country. Then deport all of them who break our laws, and fine all the companies with huge fines for employing them. If they dont have jobs, then the will go home, and dont grant them apartments who are not legal., and Health and government social services who are not legal.Lets get this new immigration bill done right this time, not just put a bandaid on a huge problem.

One would wonder why the big 3 automobile manufacturers are hesitant in producing hybrids or electric vehicles. Electric vehicles is not even a “new technology” and anyone who has the means can even make one in his own backyard or garage. I guess big time lobbyist especially from big OIL companies are preventing this simple technology to become available.

    TRIVIA:

William Taft (president from 1909-1913): Baker Electric — Taft was the first president to own and drive cars during his presidency. One of the most interesting cars he owned was, ironically enough, “green” — a Baker Electric. This electric vehicle was especially popular with women in the era, as it did not require any cranking and was virtually maintenance-free.

Obama is not just the US President-Elect, he’s the Global President-Elect.

Many observers say that the classic congratulatory speech by McCain was insincere and full of hypocrisy. A day earlier before election, McCain lambasted Obama calling him all names…inexperienced, socialist. After losing the important States like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida; McCain conceded saying Obama was a great guy…would be a great President. Such are common statements from losers.

Obama should watch out for Bush. He should not believe that Bush would provide him with smooth transition. To save himself for further criticism after leaving office, Bush wants to see Obama fails. With all the mess Bush is leaving behind, Obama has lots of serious challenges. Between now and Obama’s official assumption of office, Bush should just stay in the White House and not make any stupid decision. He should stop talking to other world leaders. He should not give Obama more problems which he already has inherited.

  96. ipaglaban_mo ipaglaban_mo

well, you heard this from me first. obama charmed his way to win the election. he maybe liked this time, but, in years to come, people will realize their mistake for voting him in. he’s a very articulate “first class bull sh1t artists” who would flip-flop his stance anytime and will evade controversial isssues.
hmmmmm, sounds like most of our filipino-politicians to me? 🙂

  97. bitchevil bitchevil

This would not have been possible during Bush’s term. Expect other countries the US considered as enemies to open up communication and negotiate with new Obama Administration. Trust and respect are important in communication which Bush lacked.

GAZA CITY—Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, expressed willingness on Thursday to hold talks with US president-elect Barack Obama even though Washington considers the Islamist movement a terror group.

“We are ready to hold a serious dialogue with the new US president,” said Ismail Haniya, who heads the Hamas government in the Palestinian territory.

“We hope the new US president will learn from the mistakes of the previous administration and give up the policy of bias towards Israel,” he told journalists during a visit to a Gaza hospital.

  98. bitchevil bitchevil

ipaglaban_mo, one thing I can assure you is that Obama is at least better than Bush.

  99. Yung kiss of death ni Gloria namana ni Bush. McCain failed, however hard his drumbeaters tried, to dissociate himself from Dubya. They even tested a video message from Bush in his rally but surveys said it pulled McCain down. Strategists believed Mac’s chances would improve if Bush stayed out of it. But people still saw differently, he had “BUSH” written all over him.

I was watching “W” on DVD, pero wala pang 15 mins. nakatulog na ako. Huling-huli ni Josh Grolin yung cowboy accent ni Bush! I also watched the several YouTube videos of the street parties that happened that night especially that one in Pennsylvania Ave. Parang simultaneous EDSA revolutions in many states. Amazing.

  100. The only spoiler however was the financial data that was released the day after. Kontra-tiyempo sa euphoria. Laglag na naman uli tuloy ang stock market. A one- or two-percent correction was understandable after two days of strong gains but 6 percent was a bummer.

  101. bitchevil bitchevil

What happened last November 4 US election was sort of like a Revolution…a non-violent revolution. If there’s one good thing about the result, it has given inspiration to minorities, the non-whites, those with mixed race to achieve higher goal in life whether professionally or politically. I think deep inside Gen. Powell’s heart, he regrets why he didn’t run for President last time. He wanted to but was stopped by his wife for fear of his safety. Had Powell run, he would have the chance to win. Now, what Obama should do is to consider Powell in his team. Powell could be an adviser to Obama on nationals security and defense matters.

  102. asiandelight,
you can start your energy independence movement by writing your congressmen to outlaw gas-guzzling SUVs an other muscle cars with an engine dsplacement beyond 3 liters and start driving skinny sedans like they do in Europe. Battery powered cars wouldn’t be viable unless you can locate new mines abundant with Lithium. I still shake my head when I see 5.4liter Expeditions or those Hummers wasting valuable gas while stuck in traffic the whole day when a car that has an engine 4 times smaller will do the same job.

Ban the big engines. Start buying smaller cars and help in rejuvenating Detroit’s economy, reducing NOx emissions, and depending less on oil which has evolved to be the weapon of choice by merchants Ahmedinejad and Chavez in destroying America.

  103. bitchevil bitchevil

Now it can be told. It was Sarah Palin who messed up with McCain’s campaign.

She was told to buy three suits for the conventions. She ended up buying $150,000 worth of dress; expensive suits for her husband and children. Despite being told to stop spending, she continued the spending spree even asking her staff to use their credit cards for her personal needs.

During the campaign, Palin initiated the negative attacks on Obama calling him terrorist and socialist. We didn’t hear so much about these nasty attacks from McCain. It was Palin who did most of the attacks. It was she who used the words:
Real Americans. Pro-Americans. “Obama doesn’t see the way you and I see it.”

McCain and Palin’s staffs were at odds. Even McCain and Palin didn’t talk with one another so much and were seldom seen together except during the joint rallies. During the election speech when McCain conceded, Palin wanted to give her speech but was rejected by the group’s hierarchy.

Obama already unveiled his plan in his speech. It will take years to correct the US woes he said and he may not even finish cleaning up the mess even up to the end of his term. He has not even started his term and he is already plugging in for his next term!

I voted for McCain because I believe he was more equipped to run the country with all its problems now. But I was not at all disappointed that Obama won. He is now also my president. Obama has to work extra hard to prove he is really worth voting for. He has a track record of eyeing at a higher position each time he enters into anything. He was barely done in the lower house stint when he ran in the Senate. He did not even finish his Senate seat when he won the presidency. He just delivered his president-elect speech and he was already poised to solicit for his re-election. But one thing is very clear, his pick of his key men are all blessed by the Clintons! Afterall, the Clintons need a pay back for supporting Obama. Through Obama, Hillary can get her programs adopted somehow. It is as if she won just the same!

The rallying point for Obama is his fresh mandate! Because majority of the people (52%) voted for him and only 47% for Mc Cain, those who voted for Obama expects him to deliver. Let us give him all the support now and see if he can deliver. If not, four years is just around the corner, we can always boot him out!

One thing that I envy about the US is that, it has a working system. Their constitution may have some flaws but they keep it up to date with the changing of times thru amendments and passing it thru legislature. So, if Obama or any future presidents after him did not perform well and commits blunders, they only have 4 years and cannot get themselves reelected. Unlike here, even if there is no need to amend anything in our constitution, they still wanted to amend it thru cha-cha… well for obvious reasons. They wanted to do away with term limits and be in power forever.

an amazing race with a well-welcomed shocking results.

an Obama presidency, whether he will fall flat on his face on promises or make good of them, is secondary for me (as a non-American).

Obama, as a son of an African exchange-student, makes him a Second-generation American. despite that, and went on to become the US president-elect, represents a crushing defeat to long-held but divisive sociological and cultural stereotypes.

for certain, his victory will move other minority groups, re-evaluate positively their chances of making a successful reach to their individual dreams.

who knows, i may live to see the day, when Cocoy’s dalaga, become the next US first-lady. or better still, the next Pinay US-elect President.

  112. langhab langhab

obama will deserved my respect when and only when:

the truth – on 911/WTC towers/murders – will be finally [officialy] told.

  113. The reason I do not like Obama and Mc Cain because they both did not tackle the important issue. They were both busy mudslinging each other.

It was the best and most exciting campaign. The election was great fun, Of course, there was more to it. Along the way, there were also some unhealthy developments and unfortunate occurrences.

For one thing, the two most exciting political figures to arrive on the national political stage in decades – Barack Obama and Sarah Palin – were savaged by unfair criticisms that played on people’s prejudices. As a biracial candidate with a multicultural background, Obama had to overcome both racism and nativism, including the unfair accusation of not being sufficiently American. And as a political outsider and working mom, Palin had to contend with sexism and elitism. At first, she was criticized for her parenting choices and then for not being able to name her choice of newspapers or Supreme Court cases with which she disagreed.

  114. Another unfortunate aspect of the election was the fact that too many news cycles were dominated by meaningless and mundane issues – lipstick on a pig, Joe the Plumber, the cost of Palin’s wardrobe, etc. – while some very real issues were ignored.

Take immigration, a subject neither Obama nor McCain wanted to touch. Maybe it was because both agreed on the need for comprehensive immigration reform (enforcement, guest workers, earned legalization). Or maybe it was because each dreaded a full and candid discussion of the issue – Obama afraid to alienate Democratic supporters in organized labor who oppose guest workers, and McCain reluctant to confront GOP nativists who abhor legalization.

  115. Or take the one issue that threatens the financial health of every American worker under the age of 40: Social Security reform. There was no way the candidates were going to wade into those shark-infested waters – even when Obama’s “spread the wealth” comment gave them the perfect opportunity to have the discussion. After all, that’s what Social Security does. It spreads the wealth from young to old. America’s most beloved and politically sacred entitlement program may have been intended to simply be a safety net for senior citizens. But it has become a massive engine for redistributing the wealth from young workers to older retirees.

You can be sure that retirees will never admit this. They prefer to believe in the fairy tale that recipients are simply collecting their own money because all that they’ve contributed to Social Security over the years went into a private “lock box” with their name on it. Not even close. By most estimates, retirees earn back their investment in Social Security within five to seven years. From that point on, everything they collect is a bonus. And with Americans living longer, the current system gives the elderly plenty of time to loot their grandchildren.

  116. Obama and the Democrat only criticized Bush for his war in Iraq.Obama and his Dems forgot to remind people of what happened in 2002, when the Democrats unconstitutionally and cowardly delegated the power to declare war on Iraq to President Bush because of fear that the president would accuse them of being soft on Saddam Hussein, congressional Democrats voted to give Bush everything he wanted.

  117. Obama will face enormous pressure to abandon his pledge to stop the war in Iraq. That pressure will come from some within his own circle of advisers, many of whom saw Obama’s antiwar stance as good politics but bad policy.

And most of all, the pressure on Obama will come from the US military and General Petraeus, who won’t look kindly on an incoming administration that wants to change course. Early in his administration, Obama is going to have to sit down, face to face, with Petraeus — a politically savvy general who, it is rumored, is thinking about running for office himself.

  118. Obama is being love so much for now, after sitting his ass in oval office within a month he is the most hated American president if he could not deliver his promises especially to those newly pampers graduates who voted for him.He will break a million lazy ass dreams who are hoping to receive a monthly government check for their dupe and booze.

  119. My Paisano Emiliano will also be mad to Obama if he could not get his US passport after spending all his savings for the cayote to help him cross the border in Tijuana, come to America and fry chicken at El Pollo Loco.

….Cocoy, you never said you didn’t like McCain before the election. You just kept hitting Obama. Now, you’re washing your hands and say you don’t like both of them. Didn’t you vote for McCain? If you really didn’t like both of them, you should have just stayed home.

  123. bitchevil bitchevil

But at least Cocoy, you’re smarter than Sarah Palin. Palin thought Africa was a country, not a continent. I’m sure you know that there are Africans in Africa.

My friend’s wife gave birth to a baby girl during the US campaign. She was a fan of Sarah Palin. She gave her baby the name “Maverick”. Her husband corrected her saying it should be Marivic. But, she insisted on giving that name.

  129. bitchevil,
Here you go again,I didn’t vote for Mc Cain either and that’s the reason I paid $3.95 plus tax at Starbuck for my coffee and donut,I didn’t get red or blue “I Voted” sticker. One thing though I registered a single vote for me as President of United States of America.

In fact, the real thing to take away is that this country is more divisive than ever. What you fail to see is that all of Obama’s supporters aren’t of the same breed. Some were anti-war, some populist, some socially liberal, etc. On the last two especially, they will probably always cling to the left. However, the first category can be brought back to the Republican party just as easily as they were pushed over the edge only by the unfortunate events of Iraq (not Afghanistan). If Obama doesn’t fulfill his war promise, you can bet his ‘mandate’ will evaporate before the two year evaluation is up. And even if he does extricate us from the Gulf, you can be sure that the right’s economic agenda is much more palatable to them. As proof that the Dems and Obama voters aren’t identical, take a look at what happened on Prop 8 in California (likely voted ‘Yes’ by a majority of African Americans).

Having lived and grieved through 30 years of explosive, tsunami-like American history, and nearly survived all the media hype attaching itself to this campaign, I don’t think there’s something wrong with a calmer and more reserved respone to Pres. Elect Obama’s accomplishment. Breaking the racial barrier is an evolution of the American heart dearly desired, but he still must show us that his administration can make the real changes promised in healthcare, education and in the rebuiling/reconstruction of the financial system. And there’s the two wars, both highly unpopular with the world and with America. He may shift to Afganistan, but he must extricate us from the Middle East, at least physically. And then there’s the oil cartel; they won’t be easy to hold accountable. So let’s not presume to look into hearts, and give the man enough serenity to do the job. I really think my having lived 30 forty years of hype and tragedy affords such tolerance.

  130. Indeed, Mr Obama should put into place an economic rescue plan for all Americans without health care, without adequate education, those living in poverty, families who have lost their homes to foreclosure. If it is successful, and it certainly can be, in time, it would represent the biggest achievement ever in the history of this great nation.

If Obama to a certain level does not deliver according to his promises – I think many people who are suffering chemical imbalance to their brain will be disappointed if they don’t receive check. The close relations between the economic elite and the political elite is probably the biggest problem in USA. It dont make much sense for many desperate voters to shift power from one economic elite to another. Obama must now show that he is a man representing the common American by his actions – not only by words.

  131. bitchevil bitchevil

Sorry Cocoy. I thought I read somewhere here in this blog that you went early to vote. Be as it may, you’re no doubt Republican and was on McCain’s side. Your previous posts could attest to that.

What Obama should be cautious is the kind of people he picks who would surround him. That Emmanuel is a very partisan guy.
He’s not well liked. He’s a Jew and would serve the interest of the Jews.

Also, Obama needs to appoint a couple of Black advisers. So far, all are whites. Powell is one good choice and even Rice. That would show that he’s fair.

  132. What’s the fuss about Gloria not getting a call from Obama? Gago din ano?

Of course, Obama was making sure that he would be able to get the support of the leaders of the nine powerful countries that can help void up US economy that Bush destroyed like Japan, etc.

Ulol! Gutom nga ang inaabot ng mga pilipino kaya nga kahit na maging kriminal na sa ibang bansa, sugod para lang mabuhay ang mga pamilya sa Pilipinas.

Hindi naman gago si Obama sa totoo lang. Bakit siya tatawag sa leader ng isang bansa under US care and aid?

Mali. Obama is a second-generation African with a white American mother. Parang kami ng mga kapatid ko and some of our friends who are called “sansei” or third-generation Japanese. But he was brought up in the US (Hawaii) and Indonesia, and made a nostalgic visit to his father’s homeland only once according to the news when he was already an adult and a member of the US Senate.

I doubt that Obama thinks of himself as an African, and I agree with an American friend of mine that they should stop calling him Afro-American president, but call him simply as US President-elect, period. Obama is as American as Bush, who is a mixture of races, too, from Europe. Kita naman sa itsura niya na may lahi siyang Africano.

Enough of the racial nonsense/slur dapat. Otherwise, to be fair, they should call all Americans by their racial origin like Bush who is Euro-American, or McCain, another Euro-American with Scottish origin I guess like Gen. MacArthur.

Hopefully, walang papatay sa kaniyang fanatic na white supremacist. Nakakatakot!

PM Harper and President Elect Obama had a Phone talk yesterday and among the issues that was discussed is the Carbon Market, which the PM is hoping to get an mutual agreement with the U.S., a 20 % reduction. And of course the economy and they both agreed to have further discussion of the issues. The Auto Industry which have been the bread and butter of Ontario, now for the First time due to its massive layoffs and cut-downs made the Province a Have Not and qualifies for Equalization payment of $347 millions from the Federal next year. Quebec is getting $8.7 billions. Now only Alberta, Saskatchewan, B.C. and even the NL (who from the beginning is have not) are the Haves provinces. That is how bad this Crisis is hitting the Auto Industry. Or it was the Auto Industry and oil that started it all.

One told me that if it were Romney who ran for the presidency and not McCain, he would have voted Republican as he used to. This time, he thought America really needed a change, and Obama was the guy to do so.

Hail to the new president of the USA! May God preserve, guide and help him! I would rather that he tries to concentrate more on the problems of America and see if it can still lead the world after he has done that. Hindi na puede ang yabang ng mga kano!

bitchevil, not heard from the party hq yet about the party or the govt. plan about NAFTA. But Obama will have to have the consensus of all the States to be able to negotiate NAFTA. Texas for sure would like to leave it that way. During the campaign, it was exposed at the beginning that the issue was only used in the states where Free trade have negative effect on their economies and when that was leak by some insider of the Conservative Govt. (that insider since resigned)Obama never revived the issue at all. There are still many specific issues being arbitrated now, one is the labelling of pork products which the Canadian farmers are complaining as naturally the U.S. manufacturers or food processors will prefer their own. Usually there is the trade tribunal to sort them out if parties can not come to terms.

Either way, we can not lose. it will free our oil and other goods to export to other countries at perhaps higher prices. not for oil though as it is sold at world prices and the Pipelines are already in place, much, much cheaper to transport south by that mode. Do you know that according to our agreement with the u.s. we can not reduce our oil export to them without corresponding reduction to our consumption too? And also we are the biggest oil exporter to that country and SA is now ranked second? and we have at least a Trade surplus of $50 billions annually and between the two countries their is not other bigger trading partners? more than $1.5 Billions of goods and services crossing the borders daily. that is why our interests and our frienships are above POLITICS.

To prove he’s serious about the offer, Capone says he’s prepared to hold the money in escrow immediately.

bitchevil, NAFTA, benefits all parties. Before the oil and Auto assembly plants relocated mostly in Ontario due to cheaper cost (less Medical Benefits cost for the Big Three)the U.S. reaped the overall advantage. One reason why GM, Ford and Chrysler can not compete with imported Japanese and Korean cars is even after retirement they still have to pay the Health care benefits of their long retired employees plus the current ones and they lost the comparative advantage. Relocating most of their assembly and parts plants in Ontario and few in Quebec save them a lot, but now that the whole economy is again slowing down and the Auto Labour unions in the State are giving concessions to cut cost, pretty soon they will pull back some of their operations in the Ontario. At the moment we are in The Advantage, because of the High Price of Oil in the last Few Years and the steady stream of Auto(Camry, Ford F series, Hondas P.U. and most Big GM SUVs are built in Ontario) Export at the tune of more than $50 billions a year which more than cover our international Trade deficit of Approximately $27 billions. altogether we are still ahead by an average of $23 billions, but that was during the good times..and the Pendulum could swing on the other side Anytime soon.

But Bicthevil, you must also remember that trades between the two countries are actually between the 50 States and 10 Provinces and 3 territories, all autonomous under Federalism.

To support my theory, ask yourself why is it only voice messages are being peddled up to now?; why won’t he do a video message and show himself he’s alive and well. GWB will not acknowledge Osama is dead – it’s a pretext for him to go after all terrorists.

well, i don’t give a damn about the whereabouts of osama. coz i don’t believe in the current official theory of an Arab Conspiracy in bringing down the WTC buildings.

i strongly believe the buildings were brought down by controlled demolition. a job well planned.

    that’s why i think there’s a lot to uncover.

Have you been drinking the far left extreme liberal’s kool aide? Give it up, soon, you won’t have Honorable President George Bush to thrash any longer. If there was any govt conspiracy, bringing it out to the open, or else you know what you can do with your personal opinion.

You’re suffering from hangover still. >>controlled demolition>> there’s too much YouTube talks getting into your system. Two airliners with freaks onboard ramming the twin towers, and here you are, with your controlled demolition chicken shit quips.

Well, goodluck to your theory and hurry up – Bush and Cheney are leaving on the 20th of January 2009. Ask Fox news for his address in the Lone Star State and who knows, you might have a drink of Jack Daniels, also smoke some weeds with him too. He’s no longer incharge, so wtf he cares!!

well, there’s also another fellow here with the same theory and he also believed that Neil Armstrong and buzz Aldrin were suspended on the wire string somewhere but the moon. and he takes a day off according to the position of the moon and of course on Saturdays. just lucky freedom of conscience and belief is even allowed at work and accommodated in some positions.
