Forbes most powerful women

Gloria Arroyo is number 45 in this year’s Forbes Magazine list of 100 Most Powerful Women.

Last year, she was number four.

The top ten:

1. Angela Merkel
2. Condoleezza Rice
3. Wu Yi
4. Indra Nooyi
5. Anne Mulcahy
6. Sallie Krawcheck
7. Patricia Woertz
8. Anne Lauvergeon
9. Brenda Barnes
10. Zoe Cruz

Forbes said “Our annual listing of the 100 most powerful women in the world is based on a power ranking that is the composite of visibility (measured by press citations) and economic impact. The later, in turn, reflects three things: résumé (a prime minister is more powerful than a senator); the size of the economic sphere over which a leader holds sway; and a multiplier that aims to make different financial yardsticks comparable. For example, a politician is assigned a gross domestic product number but gets a low multiplier, while a foundation executive is assigned the foundation’s assets but gets a high multiplier.”

Forbes’ description of Arroyo:

It’s been a tumultuous tenure for President Arroyo. Last year, she fended off an impeachment attempt stemming from allegations that she cheated to win her country’s May 2004 elections. The storm is not over. The scandal-plagued Arroyo, 59, who became president in 2001, faces continuous calls to step down before her term ends in 2010; plans for impeachment proceedings seem to perennially loom. The controversy overshadows Arroyo’s successful lowering of the budget deficit and her work increasing Philippine electronics exports. —Tatiana Serafin

Malaking pagkakamali iyan! Ireklamo natin!

  2. Ellen:

During the peak of the campaign for the removal of the Marcoses, Imelda was likewise listed in the Forbes Magazines as one of the riches and most powerfulwomen in the world apparently for the amount of money reported stashed overseas.

The Ali Boba being listed in the Forbes Magazine must be indication of how much money she and her husband have sstashed in banks in Hong Kong, Europe and the USA. Dito hindi puede because they are not residents here. Mahigpit ang banko namin. Tourists are not registered as residents but visitors, who are not allowed to open accounts under a new banking law to prevent and stop money laundering.

This will be good money hunt for Cayetano and Escudero to prove their cases against the Ali Boba and her to be counted still thieves! Ito pa ang masarap batikosin as a matter of fact!

FORBES erred. Ali Boba should be listed by Interpols ten most wanted list, including AliBabo.

Wow!! Zip out of 100. Michaëlle Jean, Governor General; Beverly Mclachlin, Chief Justice Supreme Court; Annette Verschuren, President and CEO Home Depot Canada, and not a single one of them made it to 100 most powerful women of the world? Now I’m convinced that power really resides among us people not in individuals no matter how much wealth and power they have amazed in their public and private careers. And Forbes maybe aware of it.

  5. Ale Boba ang her forty thieves?

    waaaaa!!!!

    Dapoat mailista rin yan sa

    o kaya sa
    “The World’s Topmost Liar”….

being included in list of the Forbes Most Powerful Women does not mean anything other than the person has the capacity to cling and hold on to power, despite the odds or by means of employing tactics fair or foul. so GMA’s inclusion in the list deserves scant attention.

while the introduction mentioned about lowered budget deficit and increased electronic exports, it is really meant to arouse reader’s curiosity on the person or entice a a person to read further. the more controversial the article, the higher the chance that the person will buy the magazine. that’s an old marketing strategy.

hitler was even named Man of the Year by Time Magazine before. Forbes Magazine simply needs more names to fill in the gap in its list so it can release its magazines to the distribution outlets and have a brisk sale.

Gloria Arroyo is hounded by means of Forbes’ description that she CHEATED in 2004 polls now inscribed in stone. She grabbed power in 2001 and cheated in the 2004 presidential election. History will be the final arbiter.

The World’s Most Corrupt Leader-Gloria Pidal Arroyo
Why? Juetenggate, Fertilizer Scam, OWWA scam, raided Marcos’ Swiss recovered funds.

The World’s Topmost Liar-Gloria Macapagal Arroyo
Why? Hello Garci political scandal, Jose Pidal money laundering, Doctored SALN.

Was it only forty thieves? How about the 173 members of the Bastusang Pambansa?

Nothing to crow about to be included in the list if the Forbes’ resume’s description is about cheating and power grab.

Let’s wait and see how Bunye, Bingotilyo and Ermita twists the description.

  10. artsee artsee

  11. I remember that when Imelda was listed by Forbes Magazine as one of the most powerful and richest women in the world during the peak of the anti-Marcos campaign, Malacanang protested knowing that it was more a hint of the money stashed elsewhere than anything else.

So why is the idiots at the palace by the murky river thanking Forbes Magazine? Don’t they get the hint that Forbes Magazine is even kind of saying that she has managed to stay in the list of 50 most powerful women by cheating and lying her way as when the Forbes Magazine wrote that despite her being able to fend off the impeachment, hers remain questionable and the Filipino demand an answer, even resignation and legal and criminal procedure to right the wrong!

Iyan ang tarantado. Ali Boba talaga!!! 😡

  12. This should read: and the FILIPINOS CONTINUE to demand an answer, even resignation and legal and criminal procedure to right the wrong!

Iyan ang tarantado. Ali Boba talaga!!! 😡

    Re: Forbes’ List
“She considers it more an acknowledgement of the gains being made by the Filipino people on the road to political stability and economic progress.”Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye INQ7.net

  14. Thanks, Fencesitter, for this:

The list indeed has nothing to do with the situation on the ground, where Filipinos by the thousands leave the country to escape poverty. And you have one president/pretender in the list of the world’s most powerful? It’s an anomaly.

You are right. It’s nothing more than marketing gimmick.

  15. Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye’s statement:

“She considers [it] more an acknowledgement of the gains being made by the Filipino people on the road to political stability and economic progress.

“The President is but an instrument of the sovereign people and any accolade extended to her is an accolade for the entire Philippines.”

What gains by the Filipino people? Her personal gain!

This statement is not in OPS website. They themselves must know how hollow that list is.

Aling Gloria, No. 45 sa most POWERFUL WOMEN.

  17. Ellen:

I saw a documentary (one in fact that I made subtitles for) shown on Japanese TV regarding a company making telephones whose induction ceremony was gatecrashed by the Ale Boba who was taking credit for it even when the Japanese owner said that his company had been operating in the Philippines long before Cory became president. Umalis nga lang when the country was rather unstable but came back to continue operation in the Philippines sa may Calabarzone dahil nga mura ang labor cost.

Para bang ibig pang sabihin ni Ale Boba na if these companies would want to operate in the Philippines, they would have to deal with her first. Tangna, if that is not deterring foreign investments, what is? Is that it? Sorry for the bad language but talagang “Tangna nitong dugong asong ito!”

Magnanakaw!

STOP HUMAN TRAFFICKING! STOP PIMPING! ABOLISH THE POEA AND OWWA! What the overseas Filipinos need is a legal adviser, not a labor attache who cannot do things directly with authorities of the host countries without going through protocol. Filipinos need a legal adviser with a lot many of them getting hitched with the law overseas because of the mentality that it is alright to disobey the law with majority of officials of their country not abiding by the law or the rules of law.

Puede ba, PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA!

Abusadong tao kinakalos in the long run.

MABUHAY SI CAYETANO! He gave all of us some glimpse of hope! Whew! Salamat Panginoong Dios!

    PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA!

Iyan ang tinatawag na give and take.

  20. florry florry

How I wish Yuko! PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA! si ale boba !

Let’s face it. gloria is indeed a powerful woman. the more important question is how she got to be powerful. Miss Rice, for example, gets to be powerful through the courtesy of Mr. Bush. now, guess from whom gloria got hers. does ‘hello garci’ ring any bell?

  22. goldenlion goldenlion

Buti naman natauhan din ang Forbes Magazine. Malaking pagkakamali ang ginawa nila noon na isama si bansot sa list of most powerful women in the world. Saka paano magiging powerful si bansot? Hindi nga niya mapigil si Elizabeth? Tanungin nyo man si Mike.

  23. goldenlion goldenlion

“‘Sigaw ng Bayan’ takes case to Supreme Court”

  25. goldenlion:
    May point ka:::
    HINDI powerful si gorya ghoulies….
Kung powerful siya, why on earth can she not control the gallivanting esposo tabatsing from philandering?

OR is it a matter of conjugal arrangements na “to each his/her own”….meaning, kanya-kanya sila ng dateS?

    Awwwwwwooooohhhhh!!!

  26. norpil norpil

  28. npongco npongco

If you guys read today’s papers, Gloria even thanked Forbes for including her name in the list. So cheap this cheater is !

  29. Ei, npongco…
Been a while, ei? I guess you were missed.
wazzup? Long time no hear,”2″…[as Ms. Ellen said]

  30. Chabeli Chabeli

Whether Gloria is #1 on that list, it still remains the same…GLORIA is NOT ADMIRED.

True to form, Malacañan continues to spin the Forbes article, as npongco says Gloria, “even thanked Forbes for including her name in the list…!” I’m wondering, for what? For falling from #4 on the 2005 list to #45 this year? That’s a HUGE drop! For saying that “The storm is not over. The scandal-plagued Arroyo, 59, who became president in 2001, faces continuous calls to step down before her term ends in 2010; plans for impeachment proceedings seem to perennially loom…” Why would Malacañan thank Forbes for describing Gloria as such?

With countless of bad comments about Gloria, I guess Malacañan can’t tell anymore when someone stinks. They all smell the same kasi.

  31. gloria may be kilig to da bones since she saw her name in print.

Quite true, these people have been wallowing in stink that no one among them know what is right and clean. And they seem to enjoying it!

  34. Toney Cuevas Toney Cuevas

Bogus Gloria Arroyo might be 45 worldly, but without the benefit of doubt she’s still Numero Uno within the Philippines. At the moment, it’s the only thing we should be concerned. Knowledge of powerful women as an education we can do without. Lets not lose sight that bogus Gloria being 45 worldwide still much command what goes on in the Philippines. Illegitimate Gloria Arroyo doesn’t need additional attention to stay in power. At 45, it help Gloria internationally instead.

  35. npongco npongco

Excuse me, Ellen. My name is Noel. I also miss this Anna. Is she still around?

  36. soleil soleil

hi npongco…long time no hear…hope all is well…hahaha..baka kamo naihi pa sa tuwa ang tonta..basta makita nya pagmumukha nya kahit ipambalot sa isda at pangalan niya kahit pamunas sa kubeta..alumpihit sa tuwa ang impakta na yan…yung mga hayok sa power, pera at pang-aapi ay talagang kapit tuko yan sa kanyang kaharian…siguro kung naririnig lang natin ang nasa loobin nyan..”patay na kung patay, ako ang dakilang presidente, labandera at super-atsay…hahahaha!!!!Walang kokontra”!!!Pero kami pandak bruha, hindi kami takot sa yo..kasi alam naming tiyanak ka lang…take note ha, tiyanak at hindi tao!!!!

  37. norpil norpil

Magiging usap-usapan na iyan ng mga hidden assets sa totoo lang like when Forbes Magazine included Imelda Marcos in their list long time ago. Or malaki ang binayad ng agent sa US para sa publicity niyang ito, pero bakit nagpasalamat e ang sagwa ng description niya with all the implications of graft and corruption. At least, it took also two decades bago nalagay si Imelda sa listahan noon.

Something fussy about this as a matter of fact.
