Why Arroyo frequents Dubai

Gloria Arroyo is becoming a frequent visitor of Dubai in recent months, especially since the financial crisis in the United States that hit hard her family’s favorite investment firms, Lehman Brothers and Merryl Lynch.

Serge Remonde’s spin is that Arroyo is on a two-day visit to Dubai to “ seek more job employment for the country’s expatriate workers.” What has become of her labor officials that taxpayers are subsidizing with billion of pesos in salaries and allowances?

After fleeing Thailand’s protesters, Malacañang said Arroyo went to Dubai accompanied by “ Press Secretary Serge Remonde, Trade and Industry Secretary Peter Favila, Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes, among other Cabinet members, and some congressmen.”

How many is “some congressmen”, Malacañang didn’t say. As usual, they waste precious taxpayers money and hide it from the people.

Remonde’s press release said Arroyo “was last here (Dubai)on Jan. 27-28, 2008”. False. Arroyo was in Dubai Jan. 31, 2009, a little over two months ago, enroute to Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum. There could have been other previous stopovers in Dubai on her way to other parts of the Middle East.

Arroyo’s frequent visits to Dubai, the financial hub in the Middle East and South Asia, have been noticed by some people in the financial sector. It’s not just mere coincidence, one investment consultant I talked with said that these visits are happening after unconfirmed reports that the Arroyos lost some $500 million in investments made with Lehman Brothers and Merryl Lynch, which made Arroyo go back and forth to the U.S at the slightest excuse following the financial crisis last year. (Her stalking President Obama is another matter.)

The Dubai visits are also happening following the story about the turning back of the chartered Philippine Airlines, which was to bring Arroyo and her party to Peru for the leaders’ meeting of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation via San Francisco, and landing in Osaka, Japan last November 2008.

It was written about that while up in the air, a U.S embassy official alerted a justice undersecretary that an investigation being conducted on the collapse of Lehman Brothers and the other financial firms in the U.S showed some accounts owned by Mike Arroyo. The rumor was that Mike Arroyo would be invited for questioning.

That’s the reason why the plane had to turn back and had Mike Arroyo disembark before it entered the U.S. Malacañang’s official explanation was diarrhea. Arroyo’s lawyer, Ruy Rondain, belied the rumors.

Another unusual thing is Mike Arroyo’s non-attendance of Manny Pacquiao’s fights in the U.S. when before he was a fixture in the audience.

A foreign affairs source called our attention to something strange in the visits of Arroyo to Davos last February when she made a brief stopover in Dubai. From Switzerland, she proceeded to Bahrain and Milan. Foreign Secretary Alberto Romulo was not part of the official party.

Romulo, the source said, made a last minute application to the WEF. From Davos, Romulo came home and was not with Arroyo in her meetings in Bahrain and Milan. Romulo was back here in the Philippines when he was informed that Arroyo had decided to go to Washington D.C to try (but failed) to have a picture taken with Obama in a national prayer breakfast.

What were those meetings with foreign officials or private persons that didn’t need the foreign secretary’s presence? Could it have something to do with personal finances?

Presidential flights gets special treatment in immigration and customs. It’s the easiest way to bring out something you would like to be out -of- reach by persons who might be in power just in case her plans of clinging to power beyond 2010 doesn’t materialize.

That would be Plan B, C or D because it looks like the Arroyos do not have the numbers for Plan A, that is charter change, despite the House of Representatives traditionally in their pockets the past eight years. Also despite Mikey Arroyo, son of Gloria and Mike, personally gathering the signatures even enlisting the help of Joe de Venecia, whom they pushed out of the Speaker’s chair.

A source in the office of House Speaker Prospero Nograles said Danding Cojuangco’s Nationalist People’s Coalition, the Liberal Party and the Nacionalista Party are not signing on in the resolution of Camarines Sur Rep Luis Villafuerte calling for a Constituent Assembly to amend the Constitution even without the participation of the Senate.

The NPC , LP and NP are part of Arroyo’s grand alliance in the Lower House. Their non-cooperation is a sign of Gloria Arroyo’s lame duck status. It gives Arroyo a glimpse of how they would regard her once she is out of power.

Time to stash the loot in a safer location.

Gloria is harebrained. A squirrel is much smarter stashing only so much acorns for the season and no more. When Gloria goes to meet her Father (she claims she is the daughter of God) her chariot in the sky will be so overloaded with loot, and it will surely crash just like the helicopter overloaded with five of her sidekicks.

Oh boy, it took me more than one day to get into this blog again. Yes, she’s currently in Dubai to seek jobs for Filipinos again. She still keeps her role as number one exporter of Filipino maids. Why didn’t her plane crash while flying from Thailand to Dubai?

Gloria Arroyo said in her Easter Message:We must prove our love for Truth!
“We must love each other and risk our all for the truth, because God commands us so; and Christ did no less for us and expected no less from us,” she said.
Gloria:Your Easter message is inspiring…it either suggests that you are really turning on a new leaf or your speechwriters are trying hard to improve your credibility AGAIN.

Gloria Arroyo’s Easter message is addressed to her Enchanted Kingdom. Everybody knows that she suppressed the truth in the Hello Garci political scam and other scams involving her husband Jose Pidal, particularly money laundering. Dubai could be a safe haven for their loot.

    Ellen,
You did a good job connecting the dots on the issue of the frequent travels of GMA. I have posted my comment below on your previous thread.

In this case, dapat si Arroyo lang.

New jobs in Dubai? Construction, which employs the biggest number of Pinoys in Dubai is in a fast downhill slide. A lot of OFWs are out of job and are grabbing the first thing that comes along. Tourism receipts are falling and many projects have been shelved temporarily or permanently. The 7-star Al-Burka (right?) isn’t attracting that many tourists as projected and new hotels don’t even get to fill half the room capacity.
Those Dubai trips are really suspicious.

  6. andres andres

  7. andres andres

Oo nga pala! Don’t forget about Fidel Ramos, the second most corrupt President!

  8. parasabayan parasabayan

The pandak had been looting our treasury from day one! What is amazing is, the people are just playing dead. With Erap, they were so quick to move but with a PHD holder, ok lang! Most of the elite who participated in ousting Erap are now rolling in dough, the poor continue to be poorer and thousands get out of the country leaving their families in desperation.

  9. parasabayan parasabayan

    Oh good, nakapasok din!

  10. parasabayan parasabayan

Until someone like the pandak or the tabako are truly jailed and all their loot confiscated, every politician’s dream will be to become a “president” of the Philipiines. Biruin mo buong bansa eh sa iyo! Lahat ng pera ay sa iyo! Me kasama pang buong entourage kung gustong magliwaliw! Aba eh daig pa nito ang “royalty” talaga.

  11. parasabayan parasabayan

Andres, magaling magmaniobra si tabako. So he will not be caught, he was one of those who engineered pandak’s takeover. Now he is safe under the pandak’s rule. History may be kinder to him but not to the pandak.

  12. Hi Manay Ellen

Couldn’t help but sneer when GMA introduced her entourage to the Filipino community gathered at Fairmont Hotel yesterday. There were maybe 10 or so congressmen from ARMM as well as governors like the Ampatuans who were with her purportedly to witness the signing of a proclamation declaring Eid Al Adha as a national holiday.

Marami pa..there’s Martin Romualdez of Leyte who was seated in front and looked clueless. A few days ago one of my former colleagues at the Journal told me that they were only given P1,500 to cover their salary for Mar 1-15!

Failed to note down who were there but I saw Cong Villarosa of Mindoro — who went shopping after the GMA event — Dodo Mandanas of Batangas, Danilo Suarez of Quezon. From the cabinet there’s Sonny Razon, ANgie Reyes, Bert Romulo, Nedy Poblador, Peter Favila, Gary Teves, Nito Roque and of course your favorite – Cerge Remonde.

As I write this, I’m supposed to attend her morning press conference but the venue was moved to The Atlantis. Di na ko pupunta. Ang mahal ng pamasahe papunta doon. Just google what Atlantis is and find out for yourself

  13. Thanks for the report, Ares.

Nagi-guilty ako to be part of the justification on how taxpayers’ money are spent. I live here but even in my dreams, I never imagined setting foot in The Atlantis.

It’s also all those very expensive and unnecessary foreign visits with the requisite entourage that kills me (us). This despite her official Executive Order 782 last February for government offices to save. I just recently read a local paper in Panay where it was reported that she re-emphasized her order. But get this, she made the statement ironically while staying in the new “posh” Shangri-La Boracay Resort and Spa at Boracay island hosting a state dinner for the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea! A case of “Do as i say, not as I rob!”

  19. Dubai is in the rut right now. 5.5 million out of Dubai’s population na 6.4 million are migrant workers. What we are seeing in Dubai – the luxurious malls, hotels etc. – are made from the sweat and blood of these migrant workers. Some of them are Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi and yes, mga Pinoy construction workers.

Construction halted, white collars lost their jobs too – pano pa kaya ang blue collars? The only salvation na lang ng Dubai is their crude. I find GMA and the government to be hypocrite ng sitwasyon sa Dubai dahil it only gets worse and worse.

Not to mention, the oil supply is getting short na rin – still have oil for 20-30 years. Hindi din siya renewable source of energy kaya kung mapapansin nyo, nagkakaroon na ng scrambling for this black gold. Piece of evidence: the outrageous spikes in oil prices dahil kelangan na ng oil producing countries na kumita before this black gold runs out.

Kaya tingnan nyo ang Spratlys, pilit kinukob-kob ng China dahil ang Spratlys islands are reported to have oil and natural gas deposits – a key to oil independence from oil-producing countries.

  22. Estrada announced the names of senatorial candidates the opposition coalition would likely field next year.

They include Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, incumbent Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, and Grace Poe-Llamansares, daughter of the late movie actor Fernando

Poe Jr. who ran and lost in fraud-tainted presidential elections in 2004. Others in Estrada’s list are: his son, Senator Jinggoy Estrada, United Opposition spokesman and educator Adel Tamano, former Postmaster General and now Parañaque City Rep. Roilo Golez, movie producer Gina De Venecia, former congressman Agapito “Butch” Aquino, former Sen. Serge Osmena, Bayan party-list Rep. Teddy Casino, broadcaster Ted Failon and Marines Brig. Gen Danny Lim, who is currently detained on charges of leading a coup against the Arroyo administration.

….I agree with the above line up except Miriam and JPE.

  23. JocjocAbalos JocjocAbalos

    Mr. BE,
Nabasa ko sa ibang komentaryo mo sa isang isyu na nagsasaad ng ganito “Martir managed to get promoted and went through smooth sailing at Senate CA courtesy of Enrile.”

  25. parasabayan parasabayan

JocjocAbalos, you got it bullseye! Hinaluan lang niya yung ticket niya ng ilang tunay na opposition to make it look like he is on the other side. Grabe talaga! For the real anti-Arroyo who are on the list, they should think not just twice but many times! Unless the people show their dismay on these trapos, the political system will always be “same same old thing”! It makes sense to me. Oo nga naman bilyones ang karga ni pandak and everyone who aligns with her, openly or behind the scenes will benefit. Most of them will be definitely be behind the scenes! Nakakasuka talaga!

  26. JocJocAbalos, even me I don’t quite like Erap anymore…especially if the rumor is true that Noli-Jinggoy team is being worked out. Erap himself admitted that there are administration people including Gloria’s cabinet members willing to join the opposition, his team. If ever he accepts one administration candidate, I’ll drop him after 30 years of supporting him. Why would he include Miriam in his ticket when this nincompoop obviously defended the Evil Bitch and FG from the very beginning?

  27. And hear what Erap said…that if he becomes President again, he would not lift a finger to charge the Bitch for her crimes. He would just leave it to the people to decide. Damn !

  28. jocjoc jocjoc

  29. Adel Tamano is okay. This is his first time and very qualified. Gina De Venecia is okay since she could be the conduit to the movie industry. Unlike her husband, Gina has always been sympathetic to the opposition since the beginning.
Gen. Lim with Erap’s ticket is the best choice. What I find very surprising is Party-list Teddy Casino whose group was among those who ousted Erap.

  30. syria syria

In yesterday’s news, all opposition senators denied being the administration’s third presidential bet. So it could be Erap then, the no. 10 most corrupt leader in the world. He could be as corrupt as GMA if he served as long as GMA did.

be, I agree with you. Gen. Lim, Adel, Teddy and Gina are the only ones who are okay in Erap’s line-up.

  31. andres andres

    Syria,

How can Erap be the np. 10 most corrupt leader when he was not involved in any anomalous government transactions or scam riddled projects? He was ousted and convicted only on jueteng charges with Chavit Singson as principal witness. How can you believe that??? It was obviously political, and a power grab.

Can you name any member of Estrada’s cabinet who was involved in any scam or anomalous transactions? I can’t and I am sure you can’t because there is none! Unlike this evil regime whose family members and cronies are involved in almost all the big transactions!

Just open your eyes and say the truth. Mahirap kasi sa iba mga self-righteous like the evil society, ayaw umamin ng pagkakamali sa pagkakaluklok kay Arroyo the Bitch!

  32. andres andres

  34. Erap may not be perfect but he’s not a traitor. Rather, his friends were the traitors. The problem with Erap is that he trusts his friends too much. He’s so forgiving that he becomes stupid.

Until this day, no evidence has pointed to Lacson as the mastermind of Dacer’s murder. My own suspicion is some other powerful figure like FVR. DILG’s Puno is indeed very close to the Estrada family; but this guy is among the greatest opportunists. He’s with all Presidents. During FVR’s time, he was with FVR. In fact, Puno was the mastermind of Dagdag-Bawas scheme that led to FVR’s victory.
Until this day, Miriam cannot forget it believing she was cheated. When Erap became President, Puno became Erap’s cabinet member. His own brother Dong Puno even became Erap’s Spokesman. After Erap’s ouster, Puno is now with the Evil Bitch. Wait for the next President and I bet you Puno will be on it again.

  42. syria syria

andres, I am sorry if you were piqued by my reply to your QUERY. You made me laugh when you accused me of this and that because you are on the wrong page. My reply were all taken from the internet.

  43. Internet could be deceiving, one sided and false. It would have been better had the opinion and information came from you, Syria. With the 2010 election fast approaching, the stronger candidates are the most being hit by the enemies. And that include Erap even if he has not yet announced his candidacy officially. The panic mood is understandable.

  44. andres andres

    Syria,

The topic is about GMA’s fancy for grandeur and royalty, what I didn’t like is why you had to bring Erap into the picture again. We should do things that would improve this nation and not live with the past. The one who does this finger pointing is GMA’s minions to cover her administration’s scandals and issues.

  45. I encourage free-flowing discussion here. So off topic discussions are tolerated. As you might have noticed, if it’s really worthy of more substantial discussion, I post it separately.

I don’t want to waste time and space on Erap’s senatorial list. Also on who is the worst crook, Erap or Gloria.

Right now let’s focus the discussion on the topic at hand.

In fact, I’ll make a separate post on that again because it has been picked up by the opposition party.
