Bastusan Republic

May reklamo?

Seems to me, whatever gloria wants, gloria gets.
    Nakakadismaya kayo!

An excerpt from Archbishop Oscar V Cruz in his column —

    USER:

People are used to get exacted on taxes for what they eat and wear. People are taxed for the electricity they use, the water they drink, the jeeps and buses they ride. The current administration already taxes one upon his birth for the cotton and diapers he uses, the milk and vitamins he drinks. He is then taxed for the clothes and shoes he wears. He is further taxed for the school books, pencils and papers he needs, if and when he finds work, he is taxed until he can work no more. When he is sick, his medicines are taxed. And when he finally dies, he is still taxed for the funeral services.

People are also used by the current administration as foreign market items. They become dollar earners for the government, that is why the country is admittedly still kept somehow economically afloat. The administration even officially goes abroad to market Filipinos specially in the persons of domestic helpers and laborers, care givers and nurses, this is also why the same admirations came up with the “inspired” idea of preparing and deploying abroad the so called “super-maids.”
    ——–
Yeah, this government is USER! This is the reality that poor Filipinos are suffering. But where are the services that this government are supposed to give to its people. It is only under this fake regime of GMA that Filipinos are taxed like this. Never! Even in time of Marcos who built government-owned structures. Imagine even a newborn baby who drinks formula milk to live is contributing to this immoral government.

And now this ‘Bad Egg Esperon’ who obviously was USED by GMA in the 2004 election cheating USED ‘blackmail’ on GMA in getting his current post. Pag taong-bayan, BINABASTOS!!! Pag sila-sila, GAMITAN!!!

    BAYAN KO KAILAN KA LALAYA!!!!

Ma’m Ellen, looking at the above picture of esperon and his “gang”, in full military uniforms with their ribbons and medals…they all looked like a “horde of demons” that came out from hell and are now “lording it over” our Motherland. Rule of Law, civilian authority over the military???

  5. Spartan - September 28, 2006 9:54 am

Now, going back to what gloria “the naughty girl” did ones again…she’s continously ruining the rules and regulations set forth by all the existing laws of our country…and as had been said by many before, HISTORY would be the JUDGE of all the sins that she committed to our Country, People, and Constitution.

Lahat gustong madaliin o short-cut.

    ================================
“Governor of Fukushima steps down over brother’s bid-rigging arrest

FUKUSHIMA (Kyodo) Fukushima Gov. Eisaku Sato tendered his resignation to the prefectural assembly Wednesday on the heels of the arrest of his brother and a former senior prefectural official over alleged bid-rigging for a public works contract.

Sato said, “I decided to put an end to my 18-year-career (as governor) to take moral responsibility and to restore public trust in the prefectural administration as soon as possible.”

Note: Fukushima is a prefecture[province] north of Tokyo.

Sa Pinas, wala yan! Matira matibay, kaya naman, they bleed dry the economy bago bitawan! Just look at the gordo fea malo familia!

    Cory by the Sea,

Pwe!

  9. npongco - September 28, 2006 12:46 pm

How true was it that Esperon was able to be confirmed because no one from the opposition opposed? Upon request of Jinggoy, Senator Serge Osmena withdrew his opposition. Of course Jinggoy wouldn’t have done this without Erap’s approval. What’s going on? Is there now a secret deal between Erap’s camp and GMA?

  10. Mrivera - September 28, 2006 1:17 pm

  11. Mrivera - September 28, 2006 1:18 pm

    makasapat….

  12. josephs - September 28, 2006 1:23 pm

Cronyism sa mukha ng mga Pilipino. Dapat asasihin na iyan, as a form of capital punishment. I really would like to be a volunteer as the executioner.

  13. Mrivera - September 28, 2006 1:24 pm

ystakei, cory by the sea, mga opisyales na bayaran ni gloria ang nasa batasan upang sumaksi sa confirmation ni assperon. walang enlistedmen diyan na meron pa namang proper decorum hindi katulad ng mga alaga ni gloria, puro garapal. mga magigiting na opisyal? napo-promote dahil sa accomplishment ng kanilang mga tauhan? accomplishment of an officer in a position of a great responsibility? pwe!!!!!!!!!! lulo nila!!!

  14. Mrivera - September 28, 2006 1:25 pm

    ..position of great responsibility….

  15. Mrivera - September 28, 2006 1:31 pm

  16. Mrivera - September 28, 2006 1:32 pm

    …ubod ng tapang sa kayabangan.

  18. kitamokitako - September 28, 2006 2:07 pm

Excusa me, mukhang goon si Assperon. Walang ka aura aura of respectability.

Kawawang Pilipinas. Maybe not in our lifetime na makikita nating may magandang pamamalakad sa ating inang bayan.

She now has the APE Trio …Abalos, Puno and Esperon.

  20. ystakei - September 28, 2006 2:23 pm

    Mrivera,

  21. Mrivera - September 28, 2006 6:35 pm

Bravo to our soldiers and former soldiers who preferred to quit the service because they preferred to live with their honor intact!

    Alright Soldier?

  24. anna de brux - September 28, 2006 8:10 pm

As if the issue of General Hermogenes Esperon, whose whose back-to-back promotion as lieutenant general and full-pledged general rank with the title of chief of staff, Armed Forces of the Philipppines, wasn’t questionable enough to make the good, democratic people in Philippine society worry, we now hear that this man, the highest ranking military officer in the Philippines, will compound the military’s poor, blurry image by entertaining the idea of summarily dimissing “plotters” which was recommended by PN Chief VAdm Mateo Mayuga.

In terms of military law, the officers whom Esperon has so far kept in jail have human rights too. The most elementary law dictates that they should be provided the venue to defend themselves – a court martial being the correct venue.

I can see Esperon’s steel hand here – didn’t he vow to punish the so-called “plotters?” He also probably made a personal pledge to Gloria Macapagal that he wouldn’t let them go, that he would bend 1, 2, 3 and even a hundred military rules, but he’s gonna punish the “culprits” HIS way. Remember, he stared his former boss down, General Senga who had it within his authority as chief of staff, AFP to convene a court martial but couldn’t – he dilly dallied because Esperon was Gloria’s golden boy. Ah, what military tricks and politics we play, eh?

  25. anna de brux - September 28, 2006 8:11 pm

I beg your pardon! Mr Esperon, Sir, you have no right to punish a star-ranking officer nor any military officer without due trial. You are, furthermore committing military atrocity on the person of Brigadier General Danilo Lim by violating his most basic human and military rights: continued incarceration without a right to a military trial!

  26. anna de brux - September 28, 2006 8:11 pm

Lest Mr Cruz, his undersecretaries and their bunch of banana generals, Esperon, Tolentino and Mayuga start having funny ideas about summarily dismissing these officers, they must be warned that the law, martial or civilian, dictates that NO MILITARY OFFICER should and could be dismissed without trial.

The verdict of a Court Martial jury may be “Guilty!”, hence, summary dismissal – i.e. dismissal with loss of all privileges, all compensation, any rights under the employment contract but this sentence will be valid, legal and enforceable only when there’s been a FAIR trial. No more, no less!

  27. anna de brux - September 28, 2006 8:12 pm

The Philippine banana armed forces must start learning to play by the rules. They’ve committed enough military blunders, bended basic rules of military decency, broken time-honored military traditions, so, it’s time to redeem themselves by starting to play strictly by the rules! And the rules must apply NOW! End of story!

  28. Toney Cuevas - September 28, 2006 8:38 pm

“Bastusan Republic”, such an appropriate fitting title to more a suitable regime of illegitimate Gloria. Immoral! Sad part about all this “Bastusan” the recipient(s) doesn’t know any better, couldn’t careless, perhaps a person is mentally challenge or just plain pervert as the giver. This type of person is more dangerous, since Assperon can’t distinguish the right from wrong. And the gall to wear a military uniform. What a fake!

  29. ystakei - September 28, 2006 9:29 pm

Gosh, if only poor Esperon could imagine that he’s gone from Garci general to US or British lap boy (should they invade the country which I don’t think they will – too problematic, wika nga – nothing to gain by invading Pinas, masyadong magulo), I wonder what Assperson would say for his defence!!!

  31. anna de brux - September 28, 2006 9:39 pm

Dapat si Esperon padalan ng mga cut-outs nitong comments tungkol sa kanya so he can see with what contempt he’s regarded by his compatriots.

If he is a real sodier, he will find all these comments about him distateful. No GENERAL wants to be disrespected. It’s the height of insult.

But sorry, General, you only have yourself to blame – only those who make sipsip to you in the open can say good things about you but they will NEVER EVER tell you the truth!

  32. anna de brux - September 28, 2006 9:42 pm

He’s already been pelted with egg and mud! He should know that his rank no longer inspires respect.

He’s succumbed to the lowest and despicable act a star-ranking officer could be accused of: DISHONOR.

But, I doubt he even knows the word anymore.

  33. anna de brux - September 28, 2006 9:48 pm

In a nation that has self-respect and dignity, the rank of GENERAL is one of the highest ranks and marks of distinction that a lot of people would aspire to have. It is almost a symbol of greatness.

It is not supposed to be given to ordinary mortals, not even to a president. It is achieved through merit and not through votes of the common people.

It is such a pity that it is wasted on a man with so low a caliber. Gloria’s has really vulgarized it in a way that is unimaginable!

Gloria has rendered the rank insignifant and so common that it’s no longer worth the star it represents!

  34. Toney Cuevas - September 28, 2006 10:20 pm

If you’re reading this (which I doubt), yeah, Hermorrhoid Assperon, you are a pain in the ass, walk with a head down. Be ashamed, since you do not deserve a congratularatory note. Also, don’t hold your breath, for you never hear from me, since you’re no gentleman nor an officer in the eyes of the majority of the Pilipinos. You can smirk and be proud of yourself, but that where it stop. Your four stars are unearned, simply you didn’t work for it through merit, but through back door dealing. That’s right Assperon, you sold the integrity of the Armed Forces, you bargain your soul to the devil, and you pee on your own country. Nothing lower than where you are now standing (if you are), and your kind is the lowest of the known connivers. Inevitably your day of final judgement will soon be here. It’s not goodluck, but yeahhhhhhh.

  35. Elvira Sahara - September 28, 2006 10:31 pm

You see, Assperon wasn’t even affected by the “bulok eggs and mud” thrown at him. Try to take a second look at Esperon and all the colonels and generals behind him.

  36. Chabeli - September 28, 2006 11:22 pm

How sad that our beloved Philippines has turned into a Bastusan Republic with BASURAS a.k.a. GLORIA and her LEGIONS! She has made the Philippines into a Smokey Mountain of sorts! One just has to enjoy smelling stench to join this BASURA CROWD!

  37. Diego K. Guerrero - September 29, 2006 12:40 am

Why the opposition members of Commission on Appointments cannot produce witnesses to prove allegations that General Esperon was involved in rigging the results of the 2004 presidential elections? Are they blind? There are ten members coming from both houses. Are they really doing their job or failed to do their homework? I suspect there was an “inside trading” in relations to pork barrel release. A smooth confirmation of General Esperon from 3-star to 4-star general may have a price or trade-off. The opposition members may be thinking their self-interests rather than national interests. They are pseudo oppositionists and can no longer be trusted. The Philippine legislature is a sanctuary of pigs in Gloria’s Baboy Republic. Public shaming works for corrupt and disgraced public officials. Shits bomb their asses!

Diego, some top level deals were made between the Erap camp and Esperon. A common friend facilitated this. I suspect the middle man as INC. In the past, INC helped Nani Perez and Angie Reyes got through confirmation. Erap can never say no to Manalo. That’s just my suspicion.

ASSperon should be sent to jail where he belongs. There, he should rot like hell. He does not deserve an iota of promotion to high heavens from 2 to 4-star general. He is second to the best model of electoral cheating. No wonder, bad people find solace in the company of their kind. The super cheat (GMA) is but happy to promote another great cheat (ASSperon), who both enjoy the perks that their scandalous positions offer.

  40. Diego K. Guerrero - September 29, 2006 5:26 am

Iglesia ni Cristo? Bigatin iyong padrino ni Heneral Esperon. Siyempre malapit na ang eleksyon. Kailangan nila ang basbas ni Bishop Manalo.

  41. anna de brux - September 29, 2006 5:41 am

I have a suspicion noel pongco is right!

INC could have been the key.

Amazing but could be true! So Jinggoy was sureptiously absent!

My daughter caught dengue in Manila and was in hospital for 3 weeks but I didn’t have to be at the hospital for 3 weeks straight!

By hook or by crook, tuloy talaga ang promotion. Does ASSperon really deserved it? What are his qualifications? The only significant achievement he has in his resume is being a Garci General. In a ways, that’s the most and greatest service that anybody can render to his master-the presidency in a silver platter, and as a result, as Anna aptly named it-Philippines became the Bastusan Republic.

  44. florry - September 29, 2006 8:44 am

Bastusan Republic, a fitting name to a country ruled by a bastos fake prez. Binastos ang constitution, ang batas, at buong masang Pilipino. Walang kasing-bastos talaga.

  45. npongco - September 29, 2006 11:17 am

Commentators, journalists, politicians are all afraid to ask and mention whenever the INC name is involved. Aside from the US, this GMA is being backed by the very powerful INC. INC is represented in Congress by this Marcoleta. Piatco’s Spokesman Tolentino is an INC member (and even a deacon). INC has many mid-level officials at DOTC and LTO. In fact, LTO’s biggest supplier is the Cuevas family. The only good thing about INC is that she keeps a very low profile. Unlike other grandstanding religious groups like Velarde’s El Shaddai, we never heard of Manalo speaking to media or making a scene. INC silently and effectively maneuvers. Not long ago, I posted an article published by the PDI but was immediately taken off online regarding INC’s role in killing the impeachment last year. This year, they could have again done it. I’m sharing all the above information not to bash INC. Erap and Manalo’s relationship goes back as far as when Erap was still San Juan Mayor. I’m just told that INC is trying hard to help Erap get out of his detention. This might be the beginning of Erap’s softening on Arroyo. Lots of backdoor deal and negotiation. What can we do? It’s all about politics, selfish interest and own survival. The term “principle” is hard to find these days.

    Anna:

Pag natanggal si Pandak, di tanggalan din ng rangko ang ungas na iyan, and dishonorably discharge him for helping the Pandak rig the election. Simple lang naman. That day will come for sure!

  47. ystakei - September 29, 2006 11:42 am

You bet, Elvirra, kita mo nga tawanan pa sila habang iyong isa sa kanila ay walang modong nagtututuli ng tenga niya! Yuck! Kabastos!

  50. Mrivera - September 29, 2006 1:51 pm

isa pa itong si general tolentino. nasabing dugong batanggenyo pero hindi malaman kung anong uri ng bait mayroon siya ngayon. sayang na mga kagalang galang sanang PMAers. they turned their class into a batch of used dirty dogs. they only deserve sewage as their level.

  51. ystakei - September 29, 2006 4:21 pm

Bakit, Anna, what’s the INC got to do with this crap? Bakit INC ba si Erap? Alam ko Catholic siya. In fact, one of his father confessors is a brother of a nun I am ver friendly with. At saka, INC ba si Pandak? I know a lot many Catholics are changing religions now, and there are as many El Shaddai cultists now as there are INC members!

We all know in fact that Gloria was declared winner only by cheating and not even because of an insignificant INC vote. Garci is not INC, is he?

  52. ystakei - September 29, 2006 4:24 pm

I bet you, Anna, that Jinggoy has other reason for giving up resisting against the appointment of the Assperon.

How about Ellen asking for an exclusive from Jinggoy as to why he had allowed the confirmation of this crook and not speculate on something that I do not see any connection at all.

  53. josephs - September 29, 2006 5:15 pm

Patayin na, patayin na, I beg of anybody who is listening! Esperon will be a great example that no one is safe when he spits on my country, even if he is a promoted four star general. Kailngan magkagulo na, mag revulotion na, or endless cycle of goons will run my country.
Pero I know in my heart, Philippines still have people with good ideals for their country. But they have to wake up and smell the rotten corpses. Only big sacrifices have to be made, to get the big change we dearly need.

“This duplicate comment was suppose to be here.”

  54. josephs - September 29, 2006 5:31 pm

Where ever I’ve been, or where ever I’ll go, I still remain a pinoy, and I don’t want Philippines to be a third world country anymore or ever.
    I want blood.

  55. anna de brux - September 29, 2006 5:41 pm

But Josephs, blood is spilt already in the Philippines.

    - blood of the poor who die because they cannot afford decent health care
    - blood of those who get killed by criminals because of lawlessness
    - blood of those activists, journalists and people from the countryside in Gloria’s and her henchman Palparan’s spate of killings program

What blood are you really talking about?

  56. anna de brux - September 29, 2006 5:43 pm

Spilling more blood will not make the Philippines any less 3rd or 4th world than it is today.

The Philippines has got resources, manpower, laws, systems which should be enough to start making for the 1st world.

The thing to do is to make all those things work – get rid of CORRUPTION – moral and financial – first and foremost.

  57. anna de brux - September 29, 2006 5:49 pm

The middle classes (higher and lower tiers) have the education, the means and somehow the determination to seek change – they must be made to lead without which NO REVOLUTION is possible!

Mao Tse Tung was wrong in the sense when he said the peasants were in charge of the revolution! Nope! The peasantry are foot soldiers of the revolution but the middle class are the apt leaders.

Same in the French Revolution, the American War of Independence, the Bolshevik Revolution and even the People Power in RP!

  58. anna de brux - September 29, 2006 6:05 pm

    Yuko, Noel,

Re: “In fact, LTO’s biggest supplier is the Cuevas family.”

Yep, I agree! The Cuevas family controls those license producing equipment in LTO (they signed up with Polaroid, I think during the 90s and what a load of crap that technology was). Gosh for someone who started off as bodygurad or security to Manalo – they’ve gone a long, long way!

Meeting them (father and son) was like meeting a typical Gambino or Bonano mafia family.

The old Cuevas (is he still alive?) has an office decorated in crimson red (like a brothel house) and when I met the fella, I thought he was decorated himself like a Christmas tree, wearing gold Rolex, huge gold ring with precious stone and an enormous pendant necklace!

  59. anna de brux - September 29, 2006 6:07 pm

    Yuko,

One of INC’s in house lawyer was sacked recently by INC or excommunicated.

He’s now living illegaly in Japan with a girl-friend.

  60. anna de brux - September 29, 2006 6:18 pm

Perhaps, Npongco knows about this. “One of INC’s in house lawyers was sacked recently by INC or excommunicated.”

  61. josephs - September 29, 2006 8:07 pm

    Anna,
I should not have any argument with you, but with one thing.
But when I said I want blood, I meant I want blood of the corrupt and the ones that protect the corrupt like Palparan and Esperon. That’s because we need to set the highest standards for the leaders of our country. These leaders should not only be free from corruption, but also highly competent to use our “resources, manpower, laws [and] systems” for Philippines to make it to the 1st world.
So wake up, whether you’re the middle class or the poor.

  62. anna de brux - September 29, 2006 8:12 pm

“But when I said I want blood, I meant I want blood of the corrupt and the ones that protect the corrupt like Palparan and Esperon.”

Oh, in that respect, Joseph, I agree with you.

Someone in Ellen’s blog commented that the “opposition” had not proposed anything concrete about what to do with Gloria and her henchmen if they had power. My reply was simple – being an “oppositionist” that I am:

I would have Gloria, her henchmen hanged from the highest lamp post or shot! There would be lots of blood!

  63. josephs - September 29, 2006 8:14 pm

I swear kamukang kamuka ng kaibigan kong karirista si Assperon. Tatangungin ko nga ang apilyido niya. :-)
    Goodnight and Goodluck.

Never heard about this guy, Anna. I know a lot many INC members are in Japanese prison serving their terms for murder, drug trafficking, etc. If you tell me where this guy can be found, I’ll have him picked up by the police because overstaying is a crime in Japan.

While I blog in here, I am watching at the moment the movie “Amin: the Rise and Fall.” Gosh, magkamukhang-magkamukha, including the political killings!!! It should be shown to all Filipinos to make them see how their indifference can lead to a regime no different from the worst regimes in Africa as Amin’s!

  68. anna de brux - September 29, 2006 10:02 pm

What has INC got to do with Erap and Gloria? Stupide. Everyone knows how influential this group is. As for mentioning cults, well, there are indeed lots of them…and that includes one I know that practiced polygamy in the past and believes in baptism by proxy (even the dead can be baptised).

  70. npongco - September 29, 2006 11:13 pm

What has INC got to do with GMA and other politicians? I’m re-posting this article again:

INC tipped balance for GMA, says solon

First posted 01:35am (Mla time) Sept 07, 2005
By Philip C. Tubeza, Gil C. Cabacungan Jr.
    Inquirer News Service

PRESIDENT GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO might have implored divine intervention in the most serious political crisis of her four-year administration but it was the hand of the influential Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) that ensured that the impeachment process would be decided in her favor, administration officials said yesterday.

Albay Representative Joey Salceda said the INC tipped the balance in favor of the President when the religious sect decided to flex its muscles and called on members of the House of Representatives whom its flock helped get elected in 2004.

“The Iglesia came in at a crucial moment last week by putting the brakes on the signature campaign (by the pro-impeachment camp) just when it was starting to snowball,” Salceda said.

The President’s economic adviser noted that the common denominator among those who were absent or those who abstained from the voting was their debt of gratitude to the INC.

“The (INC) helped her (President Arroyo) not once, but twice,” said Salceda in reference to the crucial role played by the sect in Ms Arroyo’s victory over the king of Philippine movies, Fernando Poe Jr., in the 2004 elections.

    Tears of joy

A Malacañang source confirmed the INC’s role in holding the fort for the President, who was grateful for the religious sect’s support.

“The President was brought close to joyous tears when she learned that it was Ka Erdie Manalo (INC’s spiritual leader) who was calling the lawmakers one by one,” the source said.

Salceda said that the INC was a prime believer in the status quo and that this was not an opportune time to be rocking the boat in the face of the crises facing the country.

But while the INC proved to be the President’s trump card, Salceda said the opposition should not look beyond itself for losing the impeachment battle because of their “big-ticket blunders.”

  71. npongco - September 29, 2006 11:36 pm

Here’s a portion of columnist Herman Tiu Laurel’s piece yesterday. Question: Why is INC still backing GMA after what she has done during Edsa Three. In fact, about three INC members were killed in that tragic street protest. The answer could be Manalo cares more about his church than his members.

“It is so similar to what Edsa II and Gloria said and did: They claimed overwhelmingly elected Estrada was threatening democracy but when their time came to react to protests of Edsa III, they sent APCs (armored personnel carriers) to the only radio-TV station, dzEC reporting the protest every hour to stop it; they not only violently beat up and tear-gassed the Edsa III protesters at Malacañang but mowed them down with machineguns, killing close to two dozens who have not been given justice up to this day. The dictatorial repression, as we all know now, has intensified since then.”

  72. norpil - September 30, 2006 12:52 am

even when i was in the pinas, and a qualified voter, the inc is already a political force that must be reckoned due to its number and solidity.

  73. ystakei - September 30, 2006 8:24 am

    Anna,

It isn’t really that we are the only ones monopolizing this blog. It is more because a lot many find logging here difficult most of the time unless you know how to detect these hackers trying to prevent us from blogging here while they take over invading this blog, and use this even as free publicity for the Bansot. Funny how some people would even want try to suggest that the Bansot is invincible and cannot be removed. Oh yeah?

Her removal may not even be violent. She may just drop dead—more an act of nature before she tries to make herself queen!!! Heaven forbid (I mean, the attempt to make this creep a queen that is)!!!

  74. hawaiianguy - September 30, 2006 8:48 am

The three of you are not the only ones in this blog. From Hawaii, I join you here. I just signed in yesterday to this blog.

  75. hawaiianguy - September 30, 2006 8:55 am

Yeah, many people in RP (ask the Lower House of Congress) would tell you that. The bansot will be there until 2010, or only God knows when.

  76. npongco - September 30, 2006 10:41 am

The lesson that should be learned is to give way to others instead of lording over this blog. One only has to scroll up in every thread and topic to see who is posting the most number of letters and comments. Never mind if people overuse this blog since Ellen is sure tolerant. But to prevent others from voicing their opinions especially if these run counter to these lord or lords and brand the others as hackers or members of Malacanang’s internet brigade is absolutely unfair and very unreasonable.

JDV proposes parliament seats for overseas Filipinos
    By Jess Diaz
    The Philippine Star 09/30/2006

Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. proposed yesterday the allocation of seats for overseas Filipinos in the envisioned unicameral parliament under the proposed parliamentary system.

He said representatives of overseas Filipinos would be included in the party-list system that would be allied with the regular political parties and which would not be limited to the “marginalized” sectors as now provided in the present Constitution.

“As conceived under this system, parliamentary representation would be accorded to millions of Filipinos in North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, Asia, and Australia-New Zealand once a parliamentary government is in place, hopefully by early next year,” he said.

“This will achieve synergy and better representation for the Filipino overseas communities in the Philippine government,” he stressed.

In a two-page letter, De Venecia informed multi-millionaire Filipino-American Loida Nicolas-Lewis, national chairwoman of the National Federation of Filipino-American Associations of his proposal. The federation is currently holding a convention in Honolulu to mark the Filipino Centennial in Hawaii.

The Speaker was originally scheduled to address the federation but begged off and instead sent Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Constantino Jaraula, constitutional amendments committee chairman.

Aside from De Venecia, the Filipino-Americans invited Minority Leader Francis Escudero to speak on Charter change.

In his letter to Nicolas-Lewis, the Speaker said under the planned party-list system, a party-list representative “can become prime minister or head of government as political experience in Germany (whose parliamentary setup includes such representation scheme) proved on two occasions.”

He said since party-list representation would be subsumed by political parties, “one of (the members even if) he’s not a politician but has great leadership can gain the support of the (political) coalition and become prime minister without having to go through the rigors of district election.”

He congratulated Nicolas-Lewis and her colleagues for their activities marking the first Filipino arrival in Honolulu 100 years ago. The federation head hails from Bicol and has investments in that region.

Aside from lawmakers, the group has invited former President Fidel Ramos and several government officials to speak on investments, tourism, and the political and business climate in general.

Mao Tse Tung was wrong in the sense when he said the peasants were in charge of the revolution! Nope! The peasantry are foot soldiers of the revolution but the middle class are the apt leaders.

anna, that was only a come on of mao tse tung to have his ideals emnbraced by the people of his time. in fact, communism is one of the hindrances to keep a progressing nation to move forward.

  83. josephs - September 30, 2006 8:27 pm

You guys know the biggest and the worst terrorist in the world is George W. Bush and the Neo Cons, right? By going to war like in iraq, he makes the world more unstable by creating more muslim jihadist. Bushes also spits on his own country by giving all tax dollars to the few rich multinational corporation and in fact making America only rich on debt. So he is not just terrorizing Muslims, he is also terrorizing americans financially. Everyone knows all this, right?
What I did not know was that Bush’s war on terrorism kuno has given Gloria enormous power too. Where Joma Sison and Communistic ideals are labeled as terrorists by America and Gloria’s government. Wow! So anyone who opposes Gloria, she can label them terrorist. So War on Terrorism kuno is where Gloria and Palparan get their power to kill innocent activists, and journalists. I did not know that.

  84. ystakei - October 1, 2006 12:27 am

    Mrivera:

I don’t believe US propaganda about communism being a bad ideology not that I am a communist because I am not, but I was surely shocked to see Russia and Communist China not being as progressive as I thought it would be based on US frightening pictures of the administrations there in the 70′s and 80′s. This is why I would recommend seeing things with one’s eyes than believe those expensive propaganda aimed at glorifying America.

I would rather in fact help preserve Japanese literal interpretation of the democracy that the US has tried to introduce to the people of Japan after WWII, a government FOR, OF and BY the people, and those wanting to be in politics should be people who would want to be treated as public servants.

Mao Tse Tung’s interpretation of the communists ideology apparently is different from the original communism that was invented by Karl Marx, et al, and if it proved beneficial to the Chinese of his time, it was more because he interpreted Communism in the Chinese context and perception.

I am for any ideology to be introduced to the Filipinos and have them adopt one that will fit their mentality best, but not under this regime that is dominated by selfish and corrupt individuals who act as if they alone have the right to be there to tell Filipinos how they should run their lives and/or put the fate of the Philippine nation in their hands the way for example how Joe de Venecia tries his dumbest to push in to the throats of Filipinos his ChaCha that will not benefit the Filipinos because it is being done for selfish reasons, and not for the benefit of ALL Filipinos.

In short, Mrivera, nanggagago lang! You’ll be surprised to know that these socialist regimes call their countries “Republics” such as the People’s Republic of China or the Socialist Republic of Russia!

  85. hawaiianguy - October 1, 2006 12:28 am

    norpil at mrivera,

  86. Toney Cuevas - October 1, 2006 12:58 am

    Josephs:

I don’t have any idea what’re you talking about. I’m one of the guys you mentioned, and I’m very dissapointed at you. I can truly say that you’ve no idea of what you’re talking about the great man President George Bush of the United States of America. You DO NOT HAVE THE FACT, most obvious. You should have done your homework first before even start writing derogatory remarks against a great man. What you’ve shown instead is nothing but pure hatred to the President. President Bush is fighting a war on terror to prevent another 9/11, and protect the 300 million Americans from fascist terrorists which nothing better but to kill infidels. Certainly, an insult to even call President Bush the worst terrorist in the world. You’re mad! What give you such ridiculous nonsensical, most absurd accusation without providing a foundation. When you accused a President of the United States in Public forum, it would be prudent for you to include justification. Have you seen the victims of 9/11 jumping off the burning twin towers? Have you seen the numerous unmarked graves in Iraq prior to US troops arriving in Iraq. Do you understand the 17 resolution cited by the United Nation in which Saddam ignored? Have you counted all the bombing by the terrorist that kill innocent people? Do you agree in beheading captured civilians?

You also said, “President Bush spits on his own country by giving all tax dollars to the few multinational corporation and making America only rich on debt…” America in debt? Where in the heck are you coming from? Josephs, such a stupid asinine allegation. What corporation are you blubbing about? Can you tell this forum the few multinational corporation you mentioned? Do you understand the tax incentives the President Bush signed on? Do you know why the USA economy and every Americans investing in America are now getting rich. Do you understand why? Yeah, about President Bush Tax Breaks, of course. It appeared you are a paid hecler of Howard Dean and Nancy Pelosi groups, and getting your talking point from far left.

Unfortunately, there are people like you just have no idea of what war on terror are all about. To even mentioned President bush with the same breath with illegitimate Gloria is unsoundness of mind sufficient in judgement.

    Totally absurd and extremely foolish!

Get niyo ba?

  90. hawaiianguy - October 1, 2006 7:05 am

    artsee,

“voice of god daw” ang people’s initiative. Ano yun?

How can Catholic Church be a cult when the church has been in existence for so many years? Cults come and go. I do believe that JW, LDS, INC and other groups are cults…but Catholic Church is not even if I’m no longer a practicing Catholic.

  92. hawaiianguy - October 1, 2006 11:12 am

    npongco,

i agree. i think artsee’s definition of cult is over stretched. no offense meant, ok? the catholic church is not a cult. otherwise, all religions are cults by his classification.

  93. npongco - October 1, 2006 11:26 am

What is a cult by the way? What are the identifying marks? For one thing, every cult has a leader whom the members blindly follow.

It’s the first time I heard that Bush is a great man. If you call Josephs mad by calling Bush a terrorist, What and how would you call Hugo Chavez of Venezuela who called Bush “The Devil?” I can’t imagine.

  95. florry - October 1, 2006 12:09 pm

Ditto with Yuko when she said in one of her postings “Until Bush did a Hitler”

  96. vic - October 1, 2006 1:03 pm

florry, Hugo Chavez maybe popular and he is an idealist like Fidel Catro of Cuba. To prove the point that he called President Bush “the Devil” and still free and safe to roam in “Bush country” shows the difference between the two societies. He has lot of enemies, personally and because of his foreign policies, but as a person, he, I believe and most Americans cares about his country and her people. He belongs to a Neo-Conservatives ideology as much as Castro and Chaves belong to the Marxist or Socialist, the two can never meet. In this world there will always be enemies and friends and friends and enemies. Devils and Saints, I still have to see one…

ystakei, personal na opinyon ko ‘yun at hindi ako naniniwala sa propaganda ng US. base ang mga sinabi ko sa actual and factual na nalalaman ko especially (heto na naman ako) during my years in the special operations task force of the AFP. i used to mingle with the mass supporters of the communists, heard their ideas and reasons why they supported and joined the underground movement. the common denominator was the lack of concern among the local government officials and the insensitivity of the national government. wala kasing sincere efforts to contain the root cause of unrest leading to rebellion. laganap na kahirapan at kawalang hustisya sa mga karaingan ng mga maralita na sinasamantala naman ng mga katulad nina joma sison, jalandoni at iba pang mga lider ng kilusan. nalalaman naman natin kung nasaaan sila habang nagpapakamatay ang kanilang mga tagapagtaguyod sa mga kanayunan at kalunsuran.

  98. Mrivera - October 1, 2006 1:34 pm

    ….insensitivity of the national leaders….

  100. hawaiianguy - October 1, 2006 2:13 pm

from what I see at a distance, many of those guys who now call the shots at OWWA are also vultures of the highest degree (with exceptions, of course, like what mrivera pointed out). they say that there is plenty of money to evacuate the OFWs from war-torn Lebanon, but how come they are asking congress to allocate more funds for the office? and look at how measly they spent evacuating our poor kababayans there, and how few they have helped out of the 30,000 hapless pinays. pathetic!

for the integration plan, i think it’s not only lack or total absence of sincerity but also of ability to deliver. who are those guys anyway? many of those officials there probably don’t even know their jobs, being political appointees who are inept.

  101. florry - October 1, 2006 2:48 pm

Vic; Do you mean to say that because Hugo Chavez is a Marxist or a Socialist, Bush can not go to Chavez Country, roam and speak freely? I don’t think so. I don’t see any difference between the two societies. Venezuela is not under dictatorship or communist regime and as far as I know, they still have all the freedom enjoyed by any democratic country in the world. Venezuela doesn’t want any outside interference in its internal affairs, wants its independence and have the guts to stand up against the bullying of the US. And speaking of caring for ones country and its people, that is a given, its natural and it’s not something that you have to tell to everybody. Its not even something to crow and talk about.
Americans were also as divided as the Philippines after their previous presidential elections where Bush victory was also in question in the state of Florida where his brother Jeb is the governor. It was alleged that cheating took place. He was then in the same predicament as Gloria and only the more mature and forgiving attitude of the American people saved him the day, yet not a majority of his people approved of his policies specially in foreign, wherein some surveys revealed their disapproval. And besides New York is Bush country but not the United Nations Assembly. And do you also believe that Canada is a Socialist just like as you said, Chavez?

  102. vic - October 1, 2006 4:40 pm

florry, you said a leader cares for his or her country as a given is not true to all, and I can not stop telling anyone just to look at over their shoulders and see for themselves. Does Gloria really Cares for her country or her people? Or does she only cares for her own family and cronies? Of course Bush can go to Venezuela and call Chavez any names in dictionary, but political formalities and protocols dictate respect among leaders and even us ordinary mortals. That is why wars are started because people lost respect to one another. So it is a given that Chavez Cares about his people and so George Bush, but everyone has a proper channel to protest about one’s interference of each other’s affairs without resorting to such name calling that would only appeal to the likes of ‘war mongers’ and trouble makers, and troubles is a country such as Venezuela the least can not afford.

when pinoys discuss politics and religion, it usually becomes heated.on the religious side,cults-can agree with npongco and hawaiianguy that artsee’s may be a overstrectched.a cult normally ebb away when it’s leader die but the opposite with christianity.
just to put things into perspective on communism and sosialism, i looked up mr webster: communism:1) form of socialism that aboliishes private ownership, 2) political theory favoring collectivism in a classless society
socialism: 1) a political theory advocating state ownership of industry 2) economic system based on state ownership of capital.

    From globeandmail.com :

    Harper stands firm at Francophonie

    DANIEL LEBLANC

    Globe and Mail Update

POSTED AT 10:44 AM EDT ON 29/09/06

Prime Minister Stephen Harper blocked a last-minute resolution at the Francophonie summit on Friday that would have recognized only Lebanon’s suffering during this summer’s conflict in the Middle East.

Mr. Harper said an institution like la Francophonie could not recognize suffering based on the nationality of its victims, and he called for recognition of the conflict’s effect on Israeli residents.

The resolution was proposed by Egypt at the last minute of the annual meeting of French-speaking nations.

”Obviously Canada believes that the resolution has to be balanced and that we should recognize the victims in both Lebanon and Israel. I don’t think an international organization with the breadth and scope of the Francophonie would want to do anything than to make sure that victims are recognized regardless of their nationality,” Mr. Harper said.

The language on Lebanon had been proposed at the ”last-minute” by the Egyptian delegation, seconded by the Lebanese themselves, French President Jacques Chirac said.

The resolution had gained the acceptance of a majority of members of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, but it faced the ”hostility” of the Canadians, who managed, with the support of Mr. Chirac, to prevent its adoption.

Mr. Harper said he hoped the dispute was more over ”language than substance.”

Mr. Chirac that negotiations are continuing on the resolution and said a solution is needed to ”allow everybody to save face.”

About an hour later, the French delegation presented a short resolution that was deemed acceptable to all.

“In deploring the tragedy in Lebanon and its dramatic consequences for all of the civilian populations,” the final resolution stated, “we call for a total cessation of hostilities and a return to calm in Lebanon.”

    Chirac lauds Harper’s peace pitch

‘We were all blown away by your speech’

    DANIEL LEBLANC

    POSTED ON 29/09/06

BUCHAREST — Prime Minister Stephen Harper appealed to the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie yesterday to work harder to bring stability and democracy to the world’s trouble spots, pointing to Canada’s own interventions in Haiti, Afghanistan and Sudan and drawing praise from French President Jacques Chirac for his speech and his command of the French language.

Mr. Harper stressed the need for non-military intervention in Afghanistan, making a reference to Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s recent trip to Canada.

“The visit showed Canadians the importance of our mission in Afghanistan to peace and security in the world,” Mr. Harper said. “But military measures are not enough. The future depends as much on the contribution of educators, engineers and election advisers. That’s why we have increased aid to Afghanistan to almost $1-billion over 10 years.”

One day earlier, Mr. Harper slammed former prime minister Paul Martin, who said in a newspaper interview that the military component of the mission had become too important in relation to the reconstruction assistance.

In his address to the group of 53 states and governments, Mr. Harper called for members to help reduce tensions and conflicts in the world. He said Canada is doing its part, pointing to a $500-million aid package for Haiti and the fact that Canada has the third-largest contribution to the African Union’s mission in Sudan.

Mr. Harper did not promise additional Canadian assistance to the Sudanese mission, but he called for a large United Nations role in the war-ravaged province of Darfur, where fighting between rebels and government-backed militias has killed more than 200,000 people and displaced 2.5 million.

“We must act to save a desperate population — it’s the responsibility to protect,” Mr. Harper said.

“We want to help reform the justice system, rebuild a security system, reduce the traffic in arms and reinforce the institutions of government and community life. The government of Sudan will have to hand over the responsibility for the African Union mission in Sudan to the United Nations at the start of the new year, under African command,” Mr. Harper said.

Over the weekend, Sudanese President Omar Hassan Bashir refused the proposal to deploy a UN peacekeeping mission in Darfur, saying it was an effort to “recolonize Sudan.”

Speaking at the opening of the Francophonie summit in Romania, Mr. Harper spoke only one sentence in English. In it, he promised to continue promoting a plan to protect the world’s culture from the threat of Americanization.

“Let me be clear, we will be vigorously pursuing ratification of the [UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization] convention on cultural diversity in both our official languages,” Mr. Harper said.

French President Jacques Chirac praised Mr. Harper’s maiden appearance before the group.

“The reviews are coming in and we were all blown away by your speech and your French,” Mr. Chirac said of the Prime Minister’s 10-minute effort in his second language.

At that point, however, cameras turned away and stopped filming, having received an order from Dimitri Soudas, an official in the Prime Minister’s Office, to end their recording of the flattering comments. Camera operators were the only journalists allowed to be present when Mr. Chirac and Mr. Harper met informally and were authorized to shoot only the beginning of the meeting.

The quick end to the photo opportunity exemplified the PMO’s tight control on the Canadian news media at the summit.

It is well known in the Canadian Public that the relationship between the Press and the Prime Minister is not in Ideal terms. That started when the PM refused to do interviews after the parliaments sessions and of course the news media don’t like it very much, because they won’t be able to print much and the broadcast to say much. The PM has to be very careful since his is a minority government and any little mistake he makes can be used against the upcoming compaign which is expected not in a distant future but sooner. The Liberal just waiting for the cooperation of the Parti Quebecois to defeat the government anytime. A combination of NDPs and Liberals can not defeat the govt. while the other party still support it. Right now the Liberal is in the process of Leadership Election and Harvard professor Ignatieff is leading the pack. It will be an interesting campaign next time. lots of issues.

    Tony Cuevas:

I am sorry you do not understand why George W. Bush is the number 1 terrorist in world today. Everybody knows but you. It is a fact that no one can refute from Richard Clarke that the second after 9/11 happened they set the agenda to go after Iraq. Mind you, George W. admitted that Iraq had nothing to do with Al Queda. However, there are more than 140,000 troops in Iraq and none of them are chasing after Bin Laden. So they do not care about anything but their own agenda, much else fight war on Terror or at least revenge for the 9/11 victims.
After capturing Saddam Hussein, after not finding any WMD, and after admitting Iraq is not part of Al Queda or Bin Laden, what the hell are they still doing there? Iraqis want them out, the world wants them out, and the American poll majority wants them out and they are still there. In fact, Bin Laden’s anger against the USA came about when America became the main combatant of the Kuwait Iraqi conflict in the first gulf war. I may justify it as proper intervention then, but remaining in Iraq and policing them now will just create more and worse Bin Ladens. From just these points, we can surmise that George W. Bush is the root of all evil that will come out. A fact he is the terrorist numero uno. Remember, fellow Muslims are proud, they don’t think themselves as children where the West will guide or police them in any way.
    - Leaving the fact the number of innocent Iraqis that get killed in this conflict.
    - Leaving the fact that he spits on the UN, and creates a coalition of the willing and makes the world with no rules but a jungle.
    - Leaving the fact that spits on the Geneva Convention in order to torture prisoner of war. He is a war criminal, and making the world a jungle.
    - Leaving the fact the he is killing American’s civil liberties through making of the Patriot Act. How ironic is that name. I thought he was fighting for freedom.
    - Leaving the fact that he is wire tapping and spying on his own people. Even when the justice department told him that it is unconstitutional, he still does it. Making himself a dictator the imperial king. Again, checks and balances are taken away making him terrorist of his own government.

I got more like the money problems.

  110. Toney Cuevas - October 1, 2006 9:48 pm

    florry:

Now you heard it from me, President George Bush is a great man. I happened to like President George Bush and his determination to fight the terrorists wherever they may be. Quite an unpopular task, but he understood liberty and justice to all. I understand his resolved to bring the fight to the terrorists instead of them bringing it to USA as the 9/11. Could you just imagine for a minute if Afghanistan are still under the Taliban and Iraq under Sadam? I hate even the thought it.

Josephs is mad to call President Bush “a worst terrorist in the world…and President Bush spits on his country.” It’s far from the truth, it ain’t so. His worst enemy in USA Congress won’t even say such a thing. Yet, Josephs freely exercising his freedom of speech which his right. However, I would like to see justifications, and without supporting his remarks is totally madness.

I can say a lot about Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, a lot. But, it’s not my place. One thing I can offer he’s quite an hypocrite of keep attacking the hands that feed him and his country and yet he’s making his millions in the United States of America. Who do you think own Citgo Gas Station all over United States? It’s Venezuelan government controlled which is Hugo Chavez’s Citgo. Now you know the rest of the story,

Let me say it again, President George Bush is a “GREAT MAN”.

  111. hawaiianguy - October 1, 2006 10:28 pm

I think our energies should be focused on the proposition started out in this blog, which I put this way: that pandak’s administration is fake, evil, corrupt.

In RP, the problem with the opposition is that their efforts are scattered and not unified.

We’d be better off singling out the one and only source of all political and social problems there if we agree that gloria’s shrouded and prostituted regime is the mess that we should get rid of. Kick her her out by all means – people power, election, etc. The method doesn’t matter, she should go NOW.

I don’t like Bush either, but he is a lot better for America than gloria is for the Philippines. Bush is elected fairly and is not motivated by personal interest and greed. If he terrorizes the world, that’s because he wants to pre-empt the Islamic terrorists who want to destroy America. Gloria is an illegitimate president who terrorizes and oppresses her own people with the likes of Palparan, Lomibao, the 2 Gonzalezes, Ermita and all those utak-pulbura generals who are well-placed in government after their military stint (Reyes, Ebdane, Mendoza, Cunanan, Cimato, etc.).

    Need I say more?

  112. Toney Cuevas - October 1, 2006 10:34 pm

    Josephs;

You don’t need to be sorry, I know deep in my heart President George Bush is a great man. His political enemies have nothing better but to see him failed. It’s about politics, and they haven’t gotten over the Florida recounts.

You failed to mention, United States of Congress authorized in going to Iraq and not President George Bush. Only after, all the evidences provided toi Congress by intelligent including all foreign intelligents.

You are wrong about WMD, they found WMD in Iraq and the Media, of course, downplaying it. Furthermore, it’s well known fact Saddam used gas to kill his own people, testimony to the facts are the numnerous graves they found. It’s a fact, Saddam is paying the human bombers family to kill infidels. Saddam invaded Kuwait and ignored the 17 UN resolution handed to him.

Richard Clarke’s book uthenticity and testimony are still being challenged. Many info in the book are nothing but fiction, a mind creation instead of offering facts. If you can understand the mind set of Clarke after he was dismissed, you would understand to why he testified.

Bin Ladin is just a small piece in war on terror. He could be dead by now for all we know. If he still alive, what kind of life do you think he’s having hiding in a cave. Do you think he’s free man? Bin Ladin is finished. And you’re wrong when you said, none of them chasing Bin Ladin. Do you know how many troops in Afghanistan and with little cooperation from Pakistan? If you only knew.

UN is a total waste! If you leave everything to the UN, do you think the 50 millions people of Afghanistan and Iraq will be enjoying the freedom now given to them? Now the children and women of Afghanistan and Iraq have a choice which they never have before. Schools are now available to the children and women are liberated to make their own choice without being publicly ridiculed or beheaded. That’s freedom! UN couldn’t even enforce their own 17 resolutions but it takes President Bush and the US troops to get Saddam.

What are the US troops are doing in Iraq still? Simply, it’s because Al Queda and the Talibans will run over Iraq and the safety of the United States and its people will be compromised. President Bush is making sure it will not happen under his watch.

Sleep deprivation is not a form of torture. Beheading one’s person hed is to be considered a torture, if you can understand the difference. And have seen worst in some colleges.

Again, the patriot act is with the approval of US Congress in order to protect the people of the United States. It was approved by Congress to combat terrorism in the US and abroad. So.it was sanction by US govt. How many terrorists has been caught since it was implemented? Check it out.

Spits on Geneva Convention? Again it wasn’t true. The US Congress again approved the form of interrogation that can be conducted. Furthermore, it’s of my opinion the terrorists are not signatory to the Geneva Convention since they are without a country. Geneva convention don’t apply to them. Terrorists are without a face so how can you apply the Geneva Canvention to them?

Take a break for a minute.

  113. Toney Cuevas - October 1, 2006 10:43 pm

Really sorry for off the talking point. I just want to make sure facts are heard in this blog. As long as those and others keep attacking a President I considered a great man, I will respond. I would rather talk about the Philippines than President Bush or Hugo Chavez in this blog. We got enough about Philippines that will last a life time.

My sincere apology to everyone. I hope you all can understand to why I responded.

  114. npongco - October 1, 2006 11:46 pm

Toney, we don’t blame you for being pro-Bush. But let me tell you that the US Congress is led by the majority Republicans so Bush’s war plans for Iraq were easily passed. Furthermore, the US politicians and American people were deceived by Bush and his warlord allies the need to attack Iraq after 9/11. Bush played that tragic event very well. He lied to the American people and the world. He used the WMD and Saddam as an excuse to invade Iraq. Today, a noted writer and author came up with a book entitled “State of Denial”. This writer has lots of credibility and well respected. The contents of his book tell us how Bush lied and kept the secrets about Iraq.

There’s nothing wrong defending Bush and being a Republican if you were one, Toney. But please bear in mind what this current US President and his father did to the world and caused so much hatred for America. Never in America’s history that she’s so hated as it is today.

  115. hawaiianguy - October 2, 2006 12:30 am

Am no Bush admirer, and will not go all out defending him from attack. I know that America is hated all over, and that many things identified with it are equally hateful and dismaying. As a student of social science, I have seen hypocrisy in the way ideals of American brand of democracy and politics are practiced.

But let it be known that certain things happen here that make people live better, are more comfortable, and move around without fear or risk to their lives and property. Journalists, leftists and other oppositionists are always free to criticize Bush and his government. No one gets killed for his/her ideas, no matter how silly or hurting. Lawmakers still get their perks without hassle, and are not intidimated by libel suits or being called “destabilizers” and “enemeies of the state.” McArthyism and communism are ideas that died naturally, because there are better ones that keep the marketplace of ideas alive.

Not like in the Philippines under gloria, where criticism and debate are discouraged, intimidated and even killed outright. Make no mistake about it, the Philippines is a nation at risk. Critics, oppositionists, progressives, and others who are anti-government are all the same in the eys of RP’s fake president: destabilizers, enemies of the state, commies, saboteurs. Gloria did and will do everything to silence them and keep herself perpetually in power. Even at the cost of prostituting all institutions that mark off a civilized, sane society from savages and scoundrels.

Democracy? Rule of law? Strong Republic? RP a 1st world country in 20 years? Tell them to the marines!

  116. npongco - October 2, 2006 2:20 am

Yes, what this guy from Hawaii said were true. Americans are free to speak up even against their leaders. Many TV hosts and comedians even make fun of Bush and other leaders in the US. Yet, these politicians and leaders are sports. Compare these to RP under this bogus president…either you get killed or sued for libel.

    npongco:

I have no political aspiration nor affiliation and really not interested in politics. But I do understand liberty and having to express freedom of expression without being beheaded. Illegitimate Gloria is a prime example. The 9/11 is the testimony to the facts. You can’t reason to the terrorists, you just can’t. When they (terrorists) strapped their own children with bombs and send them into a crowd of people, aboard buses and blow themselves up along with the innocent people, it tells me they’ve no respect for a life, only the 72 virgins waiting for them. I think, its running out of virgin with all the people they sent on bomb missions. Anyway, I thank myself there is a great man, President George Bush.

Bob Woodward ( Watergate Guy ) got his own version of the war on terror. What he forgotten to write in his book when the terrorist killed nearly 3000 innocent people. Their only crime was they were born Americans.

It was almost a unanimous by Congress when they approved in going to Iraq and not only the Republican. Even Hilary clinton and John Kerry voted to go to Iraq for your info. The Congress got the same intelligent report as President Bush, and if anybody lied it was Saddam Hussein.

Old man Bush went to Kuwait to liberate the country from Saddam. It must be done to stop Saddam and the repeat of Hitlerism during WW2 when Hitler and the Nazis invaded most of the Europe. Any perception of what it would be if Saddam would’ve gotten control all the middle east oil? It would be a global chaos, that’s why Saddam must go. Read the book. It’s the same reason why illegitimate Gloria must go.

Terrorists bombed the two American Embassies in Africa, Bombed the American Embassy in Lebanon, Bombed USS Cole, Bombed the Twin Towers prior to flying the commercial airplanes into the buildings, Bombed Bali, Bombed resort in Egypt, Bombed Train in Spain, and how many airplanes they’ve blown to pieces in the past…and did I missed something? Bill Clinton also, sent the troops to Bosnia, bomb Phamaceutical factory, send a missile to Afghanistan, remember Somalia et al. As you can see, it comes with the territory as President of the United States. Other President will do the same, not only the Bushes.

The hate to America is not the doing of the President Bush nor his father. They just hate Americans for what they stand for, liberty and freedom. And being a powerful nation. Who do you think is the most generous country in the world, especially when national disasters affected countries, e.g. tsunami, famine in africa, et al. Yes, the Americans always at the forefront, most willing to give, help and assist the needy. Did you see the terrorists giving help?

The war on terror is about freedom in my opinion, and I do respect you versions.

Can you Imagine if you were Jean Chretien? Many Cartoonist made fun of PM Chretien Physical affliction, which even though I believe was already a little off, Jean would even himself, tried get back by emphazising his defects ( his mouth is partly paralyzed, hence his speech difficulty). Libel? Nah.. PM Brian Mulroney did once, but I believe they settled out of court instead of hauling their dirty laundry to the court. One reason why I’m always proud of our political process and our politicians; I’ve been in this country for exactly 3l years now and never heard of any political killings, or even an election anomaly worthy of headlines and history may prove me wrong, but even before that, there was not a single one event of political killing be it journalists or campaingn workers. And to this moment, I just can’t find the reason why it has to happen over in my own birth country.

Because of the pre-empitve war in Iraq, and as I have labeled them to be terrorist, and as UN does not work anymore therefore US soldiers in Iraq are not protected under Geneva.

And to be the head of such notorious intelligence agency is something we all should ponder upon. This younger Bush only continues the old man’s evil plans. Bush plus Bush equals Bush Shits. Both are shits!

  124. sniper - October 2, 2006 11:22 am

    Vic,
Jean Chretien was afflicted with polio which left him half deaf and paralyzed in the mouth. I maybe am not a Canadian, but I think I have to straighten up something in here. Mulroney never attacked or made any reference about the physical deformities of Chretien, because they never became opponents in any election. It’s true that somebody brought it up in a form of election advertisement depicting the facial features of Chretien in 1993, and that was from the camp of Kim Campbell his opponent then being the successor of Mulroney as Tory leader. Chretien knew it was a gift from heaven, so he kept his silence about the personal attack, and he won the elections handily almost wiping out the conservatives saved for just two seats. There’s no such thing as out of court settlement between Mulroney and Chretien. Mulroney is smart enough to do and say such a foolish comment, And Chrétien went on to win two more majorities against Charest and Clark.
Harper was defeated by Martin in their first election encounter, Martin just barely managed to hang on to a minority. The reason was the Liberals were divided at that time, The Chretienites and the Martinites. The Chretien heavyweights did not give their support to Martin. Jack Layton of the NDP brought down the Martin government because Martin did not gave in to his asking of more money for his pet projects project, child care, medicare, etc. Martin was defeated by Harper and form this present Minority government. Something must also be straighten up, Martin’s defeat was not due to the Afghanistan mission. It’s because of the Sponsorship scandal that involves million of dollars given to some cronies for advertising to counteract the separatist movement in Quebec that rocked the Liberal administration. The sponsorship program happened during the government of Chretien, unfortunately it was discovered during Martin’s time so he was the one to bear the burden and the anger of the Canadians. Martin was not smart enough to have made a closure on the issue, instead, he opened up the inquiry by appointing Judge Gomery to head the investigation. He played a queen’s gambit hoping that by so doing, playing by the rules and with transparency, and believing that he was not involved although nobody believed him being a serving Finance Minister at that time, in the end he was checkmated.
At present, I think the Liberals don’t want any elections to be called in the very near future. The reason is simple and just common sense: They are still leaderless. Graham is just an interim, and who want to go to election without a leader, so to say that they are just waiting for the Bloc for help to bring down the government of Harper is out of this world.
And as to Harper, he is being branded now as a lapdog of George Bush, just like Blair of UK. The latest poll opinion of Canadians about his war in Afghanistan revealed that his mission is a LOST CAUSE.

  126. npongco - October 2, 2006 11:57 am

Florry, that Hawaiianguy was in Hawaii during the election so he didn’t know what happened to Florida. Let’s forgive the guy.

  127. hawaiianguy - October 2, 2006 12:47 pm

Npongco, I have read that incident in Florida where George narrowly got the votes to propel him to the presidency. But Americans never charged him or the elections office for fraud, nor was there any effort to recall the election results. Unlike in Gloria’s case, where the “hello Garci” or the anomalous “dagdag-bawas” and brazen manipulation by comelec became the core of the impeachment complaints. US election officials are not tainted by that stigma perennially attached to us pinoys. The chief election officer here in Hawaii, who is a classmate of mine, has always acted independently and without any bias, unlike our Abalos, Garci, and others whose canine devotion to Gloria is unmistakable.

Florry, I believe Bush won the election, although narrowly. Hawaii voters always go for Democrats, and Bush lost here miserably. But I don’t give a damn whether Bush wins or loses. Analysts say his re-election after the 9/11 only indicates that he got the mandate to rule. (Gloria never had that record. Twice, she became president by deceit and foul play.) Am not a voter here in the first place, or if I were, I would go democratic and junk Bush or his annointed candidate.

Overall, am most keenly interested in Philippine politics. I felt sad that in the 2004 RP elections, the vote I cast (surely, not for Gloria) as an absentee voter was probably counted toward Gloria’s, judging from the fact that the comelec tally indicated more votes cast than those who registered as absentee voters. Isn’t that funny? I thought this thing only happened in places like Mindanao. Those cheats have the nerve to do that, even for absentee voters. Which is why I firmly believe that elections in the Philippines under Gloria will always be farcical and can never be clean.

  130. vic - October 2, 2006 2:11 pm

sniper, I have been posting about the sponsorship scandal a year ago and I never said that Mulroney filed a suit against Chretien, but against a Publication which was settled out of court. I also posted how Chretien carried the Liberal successfully to three majorities government. I am also aware that the former Progressive Conservative was decimanated under the leadership of Kim Campbell that caused the break-up of the party and now back as the Conservative Party. The agreement between Martin and Layton was for the Budget specific and Paul Martin was smart enough to take his chances rather than be a puppet of Jack Layton for every legislation his government want to pass regarding medicare and social issues. I was also aware that Chretien delayed his retirement as Leader of Liberal, thus as PM, because of his personal feud with finance minister, who want the Leadership for himself.

As for Brian Mulroney, he also passed that issue about his biographer who quoted his expletives in his books. Mulroney and Chretien never did contest an election. In my comment up there, I was reffering that only once did PM Mulroney filed a libel suit against a paper and that was settled out of court. I may not have mentioned the specifics, but I never mentioned that it against each other. Never heard of our politicians filing libel suits against each other. Again thanks for giving me an oppurtunity to clarify the issue.

  131. vic - October 2, 2006 2:55 pm

And again in the election issue. PM Harper doesn’t have to wait for any of the party o to introduce a motion of no-confidence and wait for the dissolution before calling an election. The mandate is for five years, but election can be called by the government within that mandate. Right now nobody wants an election. Not the candidates, not the parties and not the voters. We will have our municipal election and our provincial election coming, who needs one more. And beside The people are giving the current government their chance to prove its worth, so they can make a wise decision next time. Maybe a majority, a minortiy still, or an opposition. Unpredictable..

toney cuevas: i agree with you on the hate of americans due to their power and their use of that power. i was happy and thankful when they went in kuwait, but even americans can make mistakes and i think they are magnanimous enough to correct it. i just read a report from the peace institute here in oslo which analyse bush’s foreign policy.the conclusion was that this policy is in the process of being restructured not only in iran and irak.one reason was that the hawks inside are gone and that the war in irak is now too costly both in terms of american lives and money.. you may be correct in thinking that bush is a great american president but i myself would rather let history judge him.

  134. Toney Cuevas - October 2, 2006 7:45 pm

Appreciated your comments. You’re correct to say, history will judge the legacy of a Great Man President George Bush. But, I think history will be kind and realize his accomplishments. It’s of course my opinion, the world is better off without Saddam and Aghanistan with a democratic govt. After 9/11, the world have changed and fighting a war on terror is no longer between countries. The enemy of infidels are nothing better but to create distability and havoc worldwide, they want to destroy those of not a follower of their faith. I would rather live in a country where I can have a choice of my faith without being coerced or someone putting gun on my forehead. And such a countries existed prior to 9/11 and still now being executed in the dark of night.

Everyone also thought at one time that great man President Abraham Lincoln was crazy in freeing slaves. Now you know the rest of story. We are here testimony to history of a great man’s determination to make the world better to live in harmony.

It’s a long war on terror, many more will die and I believe good will prevail in the final analysis. But the objective can’t be doubted, it’s the fight to retain your way of life.

It’s about a Great Man vision of the world, what make life worth living. Ask Ellen Tordesillas.

Florida Votes has been recounted three times, went to liberal courts and finally Al Gore conceded. Liberals wants more recount until they get the count to favor Al Gore. Nevertheless, it went to supreme court and decided to halt the count. You can’t blame President Bush for the failure of the voters of some areas in Florida of not voting properly. They could’ve easily push the pregnant chads and the hanging chads clearly off the card and the machine could’ve read them.

Nothing more decent and honest than Governor Jeb Bush and to accused him of rigging votes is way off the pale. Unless you have the proofs on your side, I would suggest to stop the accusations. It ain’t healty, not only to this blog, but to Pilipinos in General. If you got the proofs bring it forward.

    Get over it!

Hawaiianguy and npongco believing that in America “here that make people live better, are more comfortable, and move around without fear or risk to their lives and property. Journalists, leftists and other oppositionists are always free to criticize Bush and his government. No one gets killed for his/her ideas, no matter how silly or hurting” is just delusional. Poli sci kapa naman, I have only had philosophy as my electives, but I beat you at your own game. Bush and company do not need to sue or kill journalists or activist because they hold a powerhouse of media just for their benefits. FOX news by Murdoch ultra right wing show, ABC, Washington posts are just some of the media that George and Company is using for their propaganda.
These media are consumed by the enough voters to reelect them. Because of the major powerhouse media, these controlled voters will not be turning anywhere else and find the news and opinions to be valid. So journalists that criticizes does not have to be killed because their neutralized already.
These media never have been and never will criticize George W. Bush. They will hide important real news that will hurt the administration. Pictures of tombs of American soldiers are not displayed. Numbers of Iraqi casualties are not fully counted. They will not ask hard important questions that may hurt George W. Bush. They are a lot. These media will put mundane things as important topics in order to lose focus away from GWB incompetence. Bill O’rielly is famous for that where Stephen Colbert satirizes him. ABC’s Docudrama movie “Path to 9/11” where they lied and blamed Bill Clinton as the main reason why 9/11 happened. There is so much of these kinds of misdirection.
Media news are getting tiresome in America where you can only find real news and opinion on few places like Jon Stewart where he got the Peabody award for journalism. Unbelievable, he is a comedian on a comedy network. There are some dissents happening right now, like MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann hard knows criticism of W. Bush.
To quote myself on Sept 16-17, 2006 on this blog:
Freedom of Speech [or Freedom of the press] is dead when the outcries of 750 oppressed souls aren’t heard. (that is what Gloria is doing)
It’s dead because the messenger is discouraged because of reprisal threats. (Gloria and her libel suit)
It’s dead because the true meaning of the message is obstructed or censored or modified or misdirected to demean it. It’s dead because only the r[i]ch and powerful can send their message across. (Bush and company this time)

  137. hawaiianguy - October 2, 2006 11:10 pm

    josephs,

Now people know what kind of person you are. So, you know everything? Quoting oneself (“to quote myself on Sept 16-17 blah blah”) reflects the personality you level against others. You admitted calling that personality delusional, delusion of grandeur!

  138. hawaiianguy - October 3, 2006 12:35 am

Ystakei, from the other thread you called attention to the so-called GMA Internet Brigade. Don’t you think we have a member(s) right here in this thread?

  139. sniper - October 3, 2006 3:40 am

    hawaiianguy,
What’s wrong with quoting oneself? I went back to dates (Sep 16-17) and found out the exact words he posted in this thread. He just re-posted a part of it and I can’t see any problem with that. What personality does it reflect? Does repeating or re-posting your own words in another thread makes you delusional? If you want to go on with the discussion, you’re free to express in any way you want, but cutting it out is some kind of rude, don’t you think so? I thought civility is your kind of game.

I have to be, what i have to be. One good thing, that will teach me. You should have seen me when I threatened to bit the shit out of Antonio Scalia who is a part GMA Internet Brigade.
To excuse myself, I just wanted to pound in peoples head that the America brainwashing media is so powerful that a moron was relected into the presidency a second term. George W “the decider” Bush could not think for himself. His puppeteers will not allow him to join a proper debate where there are random unedited questions. He’s applying for the presidency of the most powerful country in the world. And people here call him a great president that only proves that brainwashing works. That is why i am so pissed. That’s the work of the genius Karl Rove and of course big money.
For god sakes Dick “Halliburton” Chaney only watches FOX news and nothing else. How can you be a good leader if you don’t analyze and just ignore opposing ideas to your own?
And then this Rumsfeld told people to just shut the fuck up and let him do what the fuck he wants. He wants the press dead and shut when he said this when he Address at the 88th Annual American Legion National Convention on Aug 29, 2006:
“And that is important in any long struggle or long war, where any kind of moral or intellectual confusion about who and what is right or wrong, can weaken the ability of free societies to persevere.”
That is just moronic because free speech is the life and blood of free societies.

I apolized for my kabayabangan, and hot headenness. I could just change my easily change my alias in this blog, but i won’t so you can just ignore when you pass my name if you want.

  142. hawaiianguy - October 3, 2006 5:23 am

I think we have guys here who have multiple personalities or identities. I have no problem with debates, I would love to, if rules are agreed upon, and if people will stick to them. Some guys even think their ideas are straight, but express them arrogantly in crooked or ungrammatical ways. But what I hate most here, as in the other blogs that died, is the intrusion of Malacanan people who are out to sow chaos and intrigue. Remember the famous Roman adage: divide and conquer. That’s the best thing to annihilate dissent and opposition.

Ok ba?)

    Next thread please.

  143. hawaiianguy - October 3, 2006 5:47 am

Just to put into perspective the sense of what I just said, somewhere was posted the Batasan6 blog. I participated in the spirited debates there (Diego Guerrero, are you still here?) and engaged some guys whose fascination is to talk nonsense, and are likely Gloria apologists (or pakawala ng Malacanan), because they just repeat the familiar Gloria lies and Machiavellian tactics. But some are clever to camouflage themselves, masquerading initially as anti-Gloria but in their attacks they betray the flawed logic they share with her.

Some debaters (those opposed to the Batasan6), whom I and others spoke for, ran out of ideas and simply hit everyone in sight with foul language and hurled them shit in their faces. Some even descended to the lowest level, challenging the “lefties” to fistfights, and called those from the other side (myself included) as “commies.”

Looks like it is about to happen again. I hope not.

  144. hawaiianguy - October 3, 2006 5:53 am

Interesting thread, Anna’s patent for “Bastusan Republic”, and Yuko’s keen eye for the “nagtututuli” officer in the pic.

Puro foreign bloggers pala nagpost for the past days, grabe kasi ang blackout nagpapala (spade) pa siguro ng burak ng baha yung local regulars.

Hindi naman talaga ganoon katindi si Milenyo, typhoon Rosing in 1995 was far more powerful but the worse effects of the devastation was more man-made than natural.

Sa palengke daw bangus was down to P20/kg from the normal P90-P100 before Milenyo.

  147. Toney Cuevas - October 3, 2006 9:37 am

My own view and something to think about. There are approximately 12 million illegal undocumented immigrants in the United States of America, as reported. Still more illegal aliens entering every single day in the United States of America as the choice to seek a better future. Why is it the millions choose United States of American to immigrate instead, if they could’ve chosen Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, North Korea or even France? If United States of America is the most hated Country in the world why the people are dying to enter United States of America? Really, would anyone live under the rule of Al Queda or Taliban?

How about this guy Joc Joc Bolate, with all his money since money is no object to him personally, and Joc Joc could’ve gone to any country he wishes to live. Yet, knowingly with an expired passport he decided to take a chance in the United States instead. I guess, he figured being detained in the United States is twice much better than being jailed anywhere outside the United States of America.

If the choice is United States of America, and many are dying to get in at any cost, it stand to reason the present government of the United States of America must be doing right and can be trusted with their human rights that it will not be violated.

    Just wondering!

If I am an illeterate, so be it. I didn’t know that I was required to send a final draft of my comment to this comment thread. I did not know I was being graded for my grammar and my attitude. Mind you, I will fail over over again because I don’t give a damn. In fact, I am just doing this comment on the fly, as always. I just spelled checked the word “illeterate,” and god only know I was right. I only care to spew what i think.
if hawaiianguy can leave my arrogance and my incorrect grammar behind for a moment and still cannot honestly understand what I have said, then it is my fault. It is also my lost because i cannot correctly share my ideas. However, if hawaiianguy understood what I have said and ignored it because it is just an opposing idea to his own, then he should not be here, in poli sci, or life in general. Kid, you got many challenges ahead of you, good luck.

    To josephs:

“You should have seen me when I threatened to bit the shit out of Antonio Scalia who is a part GMA Internet Brigade”

    **********throws up************

Right. Threatened to bit (sic) the shit out of Antonio Scalia? Please. In the first place, did you ever threaten me? Hello?

I am still here, alive and blogging to my heart’s delight! “Threatened to bit (sic) the shit out” my foot!

You know what, good for you no one else saw you become a crybaby in our discussions!

Me? Part of the GMA Internet Brigade? Excuse me. FYI – I think I am the only one here who suggested how to implement a specific plan of unseating GMA – campaigning for pro-impeachment congressmen. You’re not buying it because its hard work, and its much much easier to bitch.

Oo nga pala – how can you campaign if you’re not even resident here?

You still have the delusions of GMA getting kicked out just by your bitching. As they say, nothing is more obscure than the obvious – your bitching will not get you anywhere.

    Oh man what a crybaby!

You exactly did to me what hawaiianguy stated earlier:

“…ran out of ideas and simply hit everyone in sight with foul language and hurled them shit in their faces”

Your generous use of ad hominems is the smoking gun that you simply ran out of ideas. You even had the nerve of dragging my mother in discussions.

    To hawaiianguy:

I dont think the GMA Internet Brigade can “divide and conquer” this blog. All bloggers here are so passionate in their love of GMA that nothing can put away that affection.

And if debates are what you prefer, you need contrary views to be floated here. Not simply contrary views among anti-GMA people, but pro- and anti-GMA views.

Yes I agree with your view that rules must be observed and adhered to. One such rule is the prohibition on ad hominems.

  150. anthony scalia - October 3, 2006 10:57 am

    To Toney Cuevas:

I think the consensus still is that Al Gore was robbed of the US Presidency. The US Supreme Court’s dismissal of his case was on a technicality. He has every right to protest but he said he accepts the result.

Get over it? How about getting over the “fake gloria” thing here also?

The cheating was on padding GMA’s lead, to make it “convincing.” Yes, you will say cheating is still cheating, whatever the result.

But did you know that in our rules on presidential election protests, a protest will be dismissed/denied if the protest will not change the outcome. In other words, if the aim of the protest is to stress the cheating, yet the outcome is unchanged, the protest will be dismissed/denied.

But no one is stopping you and others from filing a case against GMA for cheating. Because of her immunity from suits while still president, you just have to wait till 1:00 pm of June 30, 2010 – the moment when she becomes plain private citizen Mrs GMA. Or you can campaign for the election of pro-impeachment congressmen in 2007.

  151. hawaiianguy - October 3, 2006 11:54 am

    Anthony,

“All bloggers here are so passionate in their love of GMA that nothing can put away that affection.” Is this a pun? or a slip of the pen?

I agree, use of ad hominems does not and should never have a place in rational discussions. It is the refuge of people who have nothing more substantive to say. I received them from some people in this blog, and I wonder why. Debating is a healthy mental exercise, a learning experience, except for those who refuse to heed reason, and by any indication are irrational. But it’s a pity when some could not even understand, and would hurl vindictives at you at the first opportunity, when you have nothing to do with them, or when they simply don’t like your ideas.

Yeah, opinions in debates should come from all shades – pro or con, not only opposition among oppositions. But if the latter prevails, and mudracking fills the air, then the cause of opposition is lost, like what’s happening in RP. They can’t even put their acts together, so how can they oust Gloria? Some say impeach, others favor resign, and still others argue oust. I think any or all these alternatives are good and viable, provided the oppositors are not obsessed with their own project, as if that’s the best strategy. Now, Gloria is laughing with her heart out. And she delights with the fact that the opposition is not only divided but is also quarreling within, instead of helping one another. I pity Cayetano after that daring act of doing solo in the impeachment attempt. He has realized that he was all by himself, with only Escudero and a few others, instead of the 50 or so allies last year, patting him on the back.

  152. josephs - October 3, 2006 12:37 pm

The great man george bush on July 11, 2006
“the Office of Management Budget projected a $296 billion federal deficit for fiscal year 2006. Bush held a press conference arguing that this is a vindication of his economic policies.

Actually, it would be the fourth largest deficit of all time. Here’s the top five:

    1. 2004 (George W. Bush) $413 billion
    2. 2003 (George W. Bush) $378 billion
    3. 2005 (George W. Bush) $318 billion
    4. 2006 (George W. Bush) $296 billion (projected)
    5. 1992 (George H. W. Bush) $290 billion

When President Bush came into office, he inherited a surplus of $284 Billion. At that time, the Bush administration predicted a $516 billion surplus for 2006.

The fact that Bush now considers a $296 billion deficit an occasion to celebrate shows how far we’ve fallen.”

Republican conservative is only Bush’s namesake, but he is not a real conservative based on these figures. He is not the conservative like Pete Matipid, but actually Asyong Aksaya.

How much does corporations on welfare get?
How much does corporations get out of the iraqi contracts?
Why did Chaney’s Haliburton got a no bid contract from the government?
How much more is the war going to cost?
Who will only benifit financially from this war?
Is there another war like in Iran so these rich companies get even richer?
Why at least 1 vetran soldier in this Iraq war became a bum or homeless person, and all these companies get multi million dollar no bid contracts? I bet, you won’t see this bum in CNN again.
How would they pay for all of these? Would they make the iraqi people into slavery and take all iraqi oil to pay for these defecits? I think not, Condi Rice’s Chevron and company will take all the profit and fuck the deficit. Let the American workers pay for it. Of course the corporations are exempted because they are all on welfare.

That is how great george bush is, right Toney Cuevas? Bush does not only kill iraqis for money, he also kills financially the pockets of common Joe America. And all of these just to make money for his friends.

Saving iraqi lives from the big bad wolf Saddam Hussien is just an excuse to create more money for GWB’s friends.

    Anthony Scalia,
I guess you are talking to me again. Well all and good. Wait, I got one question for you. Do you agree that if a president hides nothing to the country that she serves, then her government is a step toward a responsible, accountable, and transparent government? This is because I thought that Cayetano was trying to do.

  154. josephs - October 3, 2006 1:22 pm

hawaiianguy is absolutely correct because i suck.
I meant, “This is because I thought that is what Cayetano was trying to do.”
Still doesn’t make sense. Fuck it.

You couldn’t make this stuff up.

    Dkos:
Bill Frist has just put the final stake in the heart of the myth of Republican toughness on national security.

U.S. Senate majority leader calls for efforts to bring Taliban into Afghan government

    Huh? No, really. Huh?
QALAT, Afghanistan U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said Monday that the Afghan guerrilla war can never be won militarily and called for efforts to bring the Taliban and their supporters into the Afghan government.
The Tennessee Republican said he had learned from briefings that Taliban fighters were too numerous and had too much popular support to be defeated by military means.
“You need to bring them into a more transparent type of government,” Frist said during a brief visit to a U.S. and Romanian military base in the southern Taliban stronghold of Qalat. “And if that’s accomplished we’ll be successful.”Talk about the soft bigotry of low expectations.
What about Mel Martinez, who was also on the trip?
Sen. Mel Martinez, a Republican from Florida accompanying Frist, said negotiating with the Taliban was not “out of the question” but that fighters who refused to join the political process would have to be defeated.
“A political solution is how it’s all going to be solved,” he said.
Sadly, it bears repeating: Taliban = Al Qaeda. They are joined economically, ideologically, and operationally at the hip.
Republicans everywhere are having their heads explode. Read on…
Malkin’s Hot Air is waving a different sort of white flag, courtesy of Allahpundit:
If we’re going to do this, just pull everyone out. Don’t lend an imprimatur of legitimacy to it by shepherding these medieval savages into a U.S.-backed government. Pull out, admit defeat, and let the Taliban take back the country through force. Then we can really and truly be back to September 10, 2001. Minus a skyscraper or two.
Update: Ace says he’s done with the GOP. So am I. That’s it.

    To josephs:

“Do you agree that if a president hides nothing to the country that she serves, then her government is a step toward a responsible, accountable, and transparent government?”

May I remind you, that we tried to discuss this in another thread. But what did you do? You brought out additional premises that were not around. And you started calling me names.

To refresh your memory – we were discussing the banned Erap DVD. That was supposed to be the focal point, your proof of GMA being irresponsible, unaccountable, not transparent. I said that if that is your only ground, then its a hasty generalization. Then you added “the voices of the 750 victims of political killings” to your sole premise.

So as an answer to your question – if having nothing to hide is your sole criterion for a government to be responsible, accountable, transparent, then its a very weak criterion. You’ve got a wrong premise.

  157. josephs - October 3, 2006 6:09 pm

    Dear anthony scalia,
On the Ellen’s post, “Truth shall spring out of the earth” I ask you the question:
“Do you agree that if a president hides nothing to the country that she serves, then her government is responsible, accountable, and transparent?”
Answer: Of course not because to have a responsible, accountable and transparent govt. there is alot of things needed, like being a strong leader, courageous leader, leader whose generous and all other sort of things like that.
I was beaten and you were the winner of that debate. Great for Gloria the leader.

But, this is a new thread and read very carefully to my new question which is:
“Do you agree that if a president hides nothing to the country that she serves, then her government is A STEP TOWARDs a responsible, accountable, and transparent government?”
When I said “a step towards” it can also mean the following:
“A NICE INGREDIENT OF” a responsible, accountable, and transparent government.
“AN GOOD PART OF” a responsible, accountable, and transparent government.
“A NECESSITY OF” a responsible, accountable, and transparent government.
“A REQUIREMENT OF” a responsible, accountable, and transparent government.

IF you give me a stupid answer like No, public nudity is not allowed or No, their bank account will be seen by terrorist, or No, you are an asshole or No, you are yelling at me with your upper case,
OR ivade the question in anyway shape or form,
    OR not answer the question,
THEN everyone here should know that the alias “anthony scalia” is part of the GMA Internet Brigade.

    Josephs:

Lets just say we’ve our civilized disagreement. However, I wish so very much that I, myself, can get across to you and enlighten you to what really the war on terror is all about. And the mission of a Great Man, President Bush in protecting the lives of the 300 million Americans from evil doers. I guess it’s not going to happen, it sadden me very much, I failed. Personally, United States is much safer now prior to 9/11, only because of a Great Man President George Bush.

I read the Talibans and Al Queda has an open enrollment to their extreme programs, they will accept anyone and anybody. The only requirement is the willing and be able to blow one’s self up, in order to meet with the 72 virgins.

  159. Toney Cuevas - October 3, 2006 9:32 pm

    Anthony:

It wasn’t dismissed because of technicality, yet the proofs was overwhelming that President George Bush was the clear winner. It was argued in the supreme court and only one conclusion the Supreme Court can arrive that is to halt the counting. It can’t be doubted after numerous recounts. And only in the mind of the liberals that Al Gore was robbed of the Presidency. They can’t accept the fact a Greant Man President Bush won fair and square. Al Gore and his people even tried to disallowed the votes of the military who where in the harms way trying to keep America safe. That was how bad Al Gore and his people want the White House so desperately. The right Great Man now is in the White House!

When I said, “Get over it”, it meant literally get over it. Since the election were in accordance with law of the land. Justice was served and satisfied. NO cheating only in the mind of the losers. Great Man President George Bush won.

And as for illegitimate Gloria Arroyo, the remarks doesn’t apply. Fake Gloria clearly cheated and grabbed power. No Pilipinos should ever forget of what fake Gloria has done to the country and to the constitution of the land. There are no benefit of the doubt that bogus Gloria is illegitimate. Proofs of evidences against bogus Gloria are all recorded and on tapes, discs and in the mind of the people. Illegitimate Gloria must go!

So, there is a big difference, in my opinion.

  160. Toney Cuevas - October 3, 2006 9:41 pm

Ladies and Gentlemen, friends and foes of this blog, if I may please. Always look and examine the substances of the messages, yet do not try to shoot the messengers. 161. hawaiianguy - October 4, 2006 12:07 am

    Toney,

“….it tells me they’ve no respect for a life, only the 72 virgins waiting for them.”

Seems to me you are biased against Muslims. You mentioned 72 virgins twice in this thread. Aren’t you?

Those who recall the incident this year, the publication of the cartoons (of the virgins in heaven running out, but waiting for suicide bombers, and of Prophet Mohammed) in Denmark caused untold destruction of western embassies (Denmark, USA, etc.) in Europe. Muslim sensibility was offended, and reacted violently against those who espoused or supported the publication of what seemed to westerners as an exercise of press freedom.

  162. Toney Cuevas - October 4, 2006 1:57 am

    hawaiianguy:

Bias against muslims, only those who wants to behead me. You can understand that can you? Such a murky justification to kill infidels in exchange for 72 virgins. Ironic, to say the least!

  163. hawaiianguy - October 4, 2006 2:02 am

ooops, sorry. May I add “…western embassies (particularly Denmark)in Europe and Middle East.”

  164. anthony scalia - October 4, 2006 12:22 pm

    To Toney Cuevas:

    Re: US 2000

As to only liberals believe Gore was robbed – do you consider Alan Dershowitz, Harvard Law professor and a member of OJ Simpson’s legal team, a liberal? He wrote a book, Supreme Injustice, where he blasts the US Supreme Court for “handing over the US Presidency to George W. Bush.”

Another lawyer, Vincent Bugliosi, the prosecutor of Charles Manson and the Helter Skelter killings, wrote “The Betrayal of America” and he shares the findings of Dershowitz, that ‘the US Supreme Court chose the next President.’

(trivia – my ‘tukayo’ presently sits in the US Supreme Court. i have to give credit to florry for discovering it)

“And as for illegitimate Gloria Arroyo, the remarks doesn’t apply. Illegitimate Gloria must go!”

Yes, yes, there was cheating. “hello garci” and the rest of the “evidences” really point to cheating. But then again, the cheating was on increasing the winning margin, not on changing the outcome – not from an FPJ win to a GMA win. Consistent to her “confession.”

Maybe what Al Gore, Alan Dershowitz, Vincent Bugliosi, and similar minded Americans did should be an example to you – these people had every right to shout “fake Bush” and “illegitimate Bush” yet never did. They all had to go on, to move forward.

So “fake Gloria” “illegitimate Gloria”? Get over it!

However, feel free to continue howling at GMA’s other shenanigans. “Useless Gloria” is more like it. Or “ek ek-nomist Gloria”

  165. anthony scalia - October 4, 2006 1:14 pm

    To josephs:

Sorry, same answer. You have a wrong premise.

  166. josephs - October 4, 2006 3:31 pm

    Toney Cuevas,
You have set some high standards for me when you said:
“You DO NOT HAVE THE FACT … Certainly, an insult to even call President Bush the worst terrorist in the world. You’re mad! What give you such ridiculous nonsensical, most absurd accusation without providing a foundation. When you accused a President of the United States in Public forum, it would be prudent for you to include justification.”
So in this thread, I have given you facts and justifications for calling Bush and company terrorists.

However, you are not up to the sets of sandards that you have given me because you did not have facts and justification when you call George W. Bush a great man.

    You said:
“United States is much safer now prior to 9/11, only because of a Great Man President George Bush.”

That is like saying, the children of the World is much safer now prior to Michael Jackson’s acquittal of pedophilia charges because he has not done anything bad since then, and because of the great prosecution team.

    You said:
“the mission of a Great Man, President Bush in protecting the lives of the 300 million Americans from evil doers.”
and I guess the evil doers are:
“… The Talibans and Al Queda has an open enrollment to their extreme programs, they will accept anyone and anybody. The only requirement is the willing and be able to blow one’s self up, in order to meet with the 72 virgins.”

Didn’t you read the news that I have given you in this thread, where republican Frist has given his concession speech to the Taliban:

The Tennessee Republican said he had learned from briefings that Taliban fighters were too numerous and had too much popular support to be defeated by military means.
“You need to bring them into a more transparent type of government,” Frist said during a brief visit to a U.S. and Romanian military base in the southern Taliban stronghold of Qalat.

Didn’t I already told you that Al Queda leader Bin Laden is still free.

George W. Bush are well concentrated in Iraq and iraqis only similarities to the evil doers are that they are muslims. Is Bush trying to annihilate muslims? That is why he is compared to Hitler.

So Toney, I am not mad. You have no right justification to call George W. Bush and “The War on Terror” as great. At least in this thread, I have the right to call them Terrorist and terrorism, respectively.

  167. josephs - October 4, 2006 5:05 pm

So hawaiianguy, I am more focus on topic than you and you’re grammar checking and attitude checking. I am trying to justify the boguness of George W Bush and his “War on Terror” because it greatly affects the Philippines.
The false mentality that the world is very wrong and very unsafe falsely allows the leaders to change the rules and laws provided for everyones well being. Bush is destroying UN, building his own alliance. As I have already said destroys the geneva convention, creating secret prisons, destroying his own people’s civil liberties with the patriot act and wire tapping , wasting money to satisfy himself and his friends.
I knew so little of the Philippines, but as I was reflecting it, or comparing it to the war on terror, I am getting to know more of my country.
I first got the connection when I saw that Joma Sison, NPAs and all the Communist were labeled as Terrorist by War on Terror. I really thought that long while ago that they were going to be pardoned, and live in peace, BUT not now. They are not even muslims or connected to Al Queda.
Then I heard the Martial Law kuno, and demonstrations are forbidden. Because of what? Terrorism kuno.
What about palparan, Palparan’s actions and the activist? If americans don’t have their civil liberties, why should Filipino have any. Why can’t Palparan have a secret prison of torture, if the Americans have them for the war on Terror.
If Bush gives no bid war contracts, corporate welfares, multi billion dollar deficit to one year after another, then what would stop Gloria Arroyo from doing the same corruption and it had to be much more.
And of course the famous media powerhouse where I heard gloria have manila standard and some more.

From these points Ellen should have compared America to the “Bastusan Republic,” instead of Iraq to the Philippines which post I have not read, sorry.

    Watch the attitude:
Take that to your poli sci class and next thread please.

  168. josephs - October 4, 2006 5:22 pm

    To add for Toney Cuevas,
This time the ends, does not justify the means. George’s “ends” is bluntly very doubtful and scary.

  169. hawaiianguy - October 4, 2006 5:44 pm

    Anthony,

The cheating by Gloria and her operators happened in both directions, increasing her winning margin included. At least, based on sources of evidence that I personally know about, and I can vouch for their correctness. I have not seen the documents myself, but I trust the testimony of those primary actors involved in the cheating game, having known some of them personally. What I hear from other primary (or even secondary sources) also offer validation or confirmation of the likelihood of tampering. Here is a part of the evidence:

    1. In Tawi-Tawi, the number of votes cast exceeded the number of registered by almost 100% according to Sen John Osmena. (Many towns and provinces are replicas.) We now know the story, Comelec and even the Senate Committee refused to allow scrutiny of the possible mismatch betweeen the ERs and the COCs. As expected, Gloria “won,” by railroading or by other foul means. This is a case of increasing the margin of victory, according to Garci’s recorded statement (“pipilitin po natin, ma’am”)

    2. In many towns in the two Lanao provinces, FPJ votes were, holly cow, unbelievably zero! But many voters and officials there testified that FPJ won, and that they in fact voted for him. No less than the provincial NAMFREL officer testified on this “dagdag-bawas” scheme. Mehol Sadain, retired COMELEC commissioner, also said that, as a Muslim, he sensed by heart that FPJ won among Muslims, who idolized him because of his portrayal of Muslims as heroes (I think one such film is Magnum 45?) rather than as bandits. He knew that his friends and relatives voted for him rather than for GMA. How come he lost in those places? Is this not a case of changing the outcome?

And oh, by the way, I know many of those local operators of Mike A. and Garci, who received bags of money to make miracles happen. They admitted to close confidants, in private chats, that they did it for easy money, and that they had no choice.

Move on with life after the fraud? I don’t think those severely affected by it will forget, or forgive, the incident. Americans who are not as passionate or attached to voting can easily do that, but not Filipinos with a unique political culture based on patron-client relations, and nurtured by violence.

Imelda wants human rights probe of Cory, FVR

    By Alcuin Papa

IS THE SHOE ON THE OTHER foot? Now it’s the camp of former First Lady Imelda Marcos urging families of victims of human rights abuses during the terms of former presidents Corazon Aquino and Fidel Ramos to file their own human rights cases againts the two former Chief Executives.

Ding Diaz, a spokesman of Imelda, said yesterday that the records of the Commission on Human Rights – formed 20 years ago after a People Power revolution toppled the Marcos dictatorship – showed that there were more abuses during the terms of Aquino and Ramos than during the Marcos years.

“Why are they [Aquino, Ramos] not being charged? Why don’t they file cases against them?,” Diaz asked.

Diaz said that based on the 1998 annual report of the CHR, the six year term of Aquino had the most human rights violations, with cases exceeding the 9,000 mark.

The term of Ramos came in second with a little over 7,000 recorded human rights violations.

The 20-year rule of the Marcoses only had 1,500 violations, Diaz said. Hence, accusations that the Marcos regime was known for its violations of human rights were “grossly unfair,” he argued.

Diaz did not look into the record of former President Joseph Estrada. He also said there was nothing wrong with the “strong arm” tactics being used by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to protect the states against “rowdy troublemakers.”

    Josephs,

Now that you invited me, I will respond to you. Since you are more civil now, you deserve it. First, what made you conclude that I am Poli Sci, as you keep on harping? I never said or admitted that I am, unlike Gloria who parades to the world her being an economist, and unlike you who tell everybody around about your having taken philosophy courses, which you proudly use to engage others in a debate.

As you and I know, false premises are bad to start with. They often (if not always)lead to a wrong conclusion. Thus, syllogism is flawed.

Second, you seem to be fixated or obsessed with politics, US or otherwise, to prove to everybody that you are better, while others are ignorant, stupid or delusional. Wasn’t that your point before?

Third, you are keen on using tabooed words that repel decent conversation among professionals. In arguments, you can’t win by this strategy. I notice that you have called almost everybody names, relishing on your ad hominems as if those words make you great.

Finally, there is no poli sci class to bring your stuff about, and even if I had one, I won’t. My class will probably dismiss it as nonsensical.

I’d like to do your bidding if I had time. Since you are now polite, I will let go of your grammatical problem to make you happy about it. Looks like you got some ideas, although they tend to stray in many directions. Sorry to say that, but I miss the better part of your arguments because of this. That’s my honest assessment of what you have been telling people you want to spar with. Anthony tells you exactly that, because you seem to insist on wrong premises, and that almost everytime you start an argument, you end up with an insult or invective.

Maybe we can both learn from the Chinese maxim. “Less talk, less mistake. No talk, no mistake.”

    Dear Anthony scalia,
you failed to answer my very simple question, Mr. GMA Internet Brigade.

I wonder if ellen could check if this is the shortest comment of anthony scalia with 2 lines and 10 words, and if it is, can I get a prize.

    hawaiianguy, WRONG answer.
my first question is if it has a tail then it is a cat.
but in my second question the, cat is the premise:
So if it is a cat, then it has a tail. Unless of course the cat is wierd, but anthony scalia was not able to answer it that way, so he failed.

    Heheheh!

Imelda is over the top again – how about the 16 PR firms who worked to oust Marcos? Anyway, Senator Lorenzo Tanada said her hubby’s 27 war medals were not all genuine. When Tanada said most were fake, his judgement was good enough for me.

To sit still and do nothing and waiting to be attacked again is scarrier. Not to mention of negligent to the office and the people of the country the President promised to protect. And future is yet to be determined if I may add. So the ends is not quite there yet, won’t you say so?

It’s madness in my opinion, without providing facts to call a Great Man President George Bush, the most powerful man on the face of earth, of what you labeled him on your argument. It was dangerous, unecessary and reckless in my opinion. And what you’ve provided in this blog as I read them are not justification, but a one person opinion of the Great Man. In the court of law, opinions are not admissable, so is hearsay from the home of Elvis Presley, Tennessee and to Wow! Josephs, c’mon now you can do better!

Be that as it may, lets concentrate on those that crawl in the dark of the night. It could be you, or mine and could be anyone’s head. Make sure Mr. Head don’t leave without notice. Or, it would be too late.

It the taliban fighters are numerous, I guess Great Man President George Bush of the United States of America, got his work cut out for him. What do you think? How may precision bombs would be needed, jet fighters, b-29, aircraft carriers, destroyers, U.S. Marines, U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guards, FBI, CIA, National Guards, Did I missed something?

You and I probably will be arguing about this for days to come and still not come to any kind of argreement which the beauty of freedom of expression. That, at one time illegitimate Gloria suspended the right of free press, if you recall. And on top of it, 750 some people dead, their only crimes was they spoke ills of fake Gloria. And you want to keep her ’till 2010? Where is your compassion to the country?

That having said, I’ve seen enough, read enough and and heard enough to make my own assesment of what really happened in Florida. I believe I could make a fair judgement without being biased or prejudice. People of Florida went out to vote, Great Man George Bush got more votes than Al Gore. It’s that simple and govt wasted all the time and resources just to declared Al Gore a loser. Ain’t amazing in the country of plenty?

  184. vic - October 5, 2006 8:24 am

    hawaiianguy,

It was well-known during his Tenure Senator Genaro F. Magsaysay seldom made himself available during house sessions, or had done speeches in significant numbers. his reasoning at the time when asked his wherabout, was he was busy with his constituents in his hometown, when in fact a senators up until today represent the whole country, for they are elected nationally. I’m not sure if he did utter that quote nelbar posted above, but if he did, he attribute it to himself. Posting this, and believe me, my teenage niece may not like it if she read this, because she adores her great Grandpa and to her they are all great, regardless of each or their accomplishments, including her lolo Monding. thanks..

  185. hawaiianguy - October 5, 2006 10:22 am

Thanks vic. so he may not be that great after all.

I’m still waiting for Nelbar’s reply.

  186. npongco - October 5, 2006 10:22 am

Wasn’t Senator Magsaysay once called Mr. No Comment? The guy actually has nothing up there…he only enjoys the good name of his father

  187. nelbar - October 5, 2006 11:31 am

  188. npongco - October 5, 2006 1:22 pm

This Mr. Comment and the other Mr. Noted can be a good team comes 2010 election. Mr. Comment was very quiet during the early years of Gloria’s reign after Erap was ousted. It’s only now that he’s making noises because his eyes are on the year 2010.

  189. npongco - October 5, 2006 1:25 pm

Excuse me…Mr. No Comment not Mr. Comment. The Magsaysay family is no longer the same today. In Zambales, the family is protector of jueteng or even operators themselves plus smuggling via Subic. Another relative Congressman is a drug addict. The one who withdrew his signature in last year’s GMA impeachment.

  190. josephs - October 5, 2006 7:28 pm

anna, Sorry I’m not promdi. In any which way you meant, I’m not.

  191. anna de brux - October 5, 2006 8:17 pm

    Hi Josephs,

Is that so? I clicked on your name and it led me to PROMDI whom I believe is a journalist/correspondent for the International Herald Tribune and other papers.

In all honesty, I meant nothing wrong – I like PROMDI’s reports actually.

  192. vic - October 5, 2006 8:22 pm

Agree with you on the count that the Magsaysay are no longer as respected as during the time and immediately after the era of President Ramon Magsaysay. Look at one Congressman Antonio (is that the name? check with babe as soon as the sun rises in CA) is also involved in quite a few number. Sen. Junior is trying to make up the lost ground, but it’s too late for redemption. Glad my brother in law family, all except a sister and family all moved to the U.S. The still carry the name, but they will be the other Magsaysays. And I know them pretty well, and no one member of the family ever wanted to do with politics no more. As my niece would say, only a Magsaysay could have beaten the bad “apples” among them, but they are at peace in Ca. now.

  193. npongco - October 5, 2006 10:28 pm

Vic, is the other side of Magsaysay you say is now in the US includes one who graduated from De La Salle in the early 70s?

  194. vic - October 6, 2006 2:57 am

Noel, there were many of them in the U.S. Now, mostly in California. Except for my bro-in-law immediate family, whose father is the first cousin of the late President, I didn’t really know much about their personal lives, where they went to school to. But I remember my niece told me that her Grandma’s (de leon)brother was a Supreme Court Associate Justice. They were active in Local politics during the early 60′s up to late 70′s, but as related to me, they were always beaten by their cousins. It’s kind of in-fighting within the “klans” who gets to the kitchen and indulge. They don’t talk politics anymore, mostly family matters.

    To Toney Cuevas:

You asked where is my compassion to my country? I just buckle down to work – how can I help create jobs. I want to emulate what Gawad Kalinga is doing.

If what Gawad Kalinga did is done in a grand massive scale (instead of just shouting “patalsikin na now na”), our country will be in a much better state (yes, even with GMA around).

Tony Meloto (foudner of Gawad Kalinga) is just too busy helping out his countrymen. He has figured it out – walang kahihinatnan ang pagtatatalak!

No job, no house are created each time “patalsikin na now na” is uttered.

Kicking out GMA need not be the starting point.

You know what makes America great – the private sector. The President can make all the boo-boos in office, and the economy still grows strong. The private sector has the initiative of creating jobs, regardless of who sits in the White House.

So despite George W. Bush, America is still doing well.

  198. anna de brux - October 6, 2006 6:34 pm

Re: “Kicking out GMA need not be the starting point.”

No, kicking out Gloria punggok, liar, cheater, killer shouldn’t be the starting point today because it should have been done yesterday with a big, big bang – as usual, laging huli ang ating action na karapat dapat!

  199. hawaiianguy - October 7, 2006 12:25 am

Gawad Kalinga (GK) has done its part as a private initiative, a good model for other groups despite the country’s mounting political crisis. I was a member of a religious group in Mindanao that worked with it, helping put up modest houses for the poor. In the city where we worked, close to a hundred poor families got roofs over their heads, and more are still coming.

I learned that the government initially gave P50 million as contribution to GK to advance the cause of this program, which is no doubt pro-poor and anti-poverty. Am not sure if such govt. support continued after I left.

GK and all those private initiatives, I believe, should be commended. GK and our group are still there, surviving on contributions from philantrophic individuals and working in synergy with others like Carter’s Habitat. Private that they are, they have managed to hang on – Gloria or no Glooria, notwithstanding.

Match this with another private (or people’s) initiative like Lambino’s Sigaw ng Bayan. I just can’t understand why the government under Gloria, whose program includes as top priority the “alleviation of the poor”, will go all out, financing Lambino’s expensive (and I believe, fruitless) program, whose obvious aim is to perpetuate many of the oligarchs who are now entrenched in power and want to have more. All the fanfare and publicity that charter change is “good” for the people, and all those political gimmicks (including denials that Lambino is receiving help from Malacanan) – mind you – are sickening, to say the least. Surely, not many people see it that way, or wouldn’t simply mind, because it’s none of their business.

Apparently, actions don’t match rhetorics. What Gloria says, she does otherwise. What Gloria wants, she gets. This is a most objectionable feature of Gloria’s shrouded government.

I can’t imagine how many more Filipinos in need, are homeless, and wanting to survive will enjoy, if only a small fraction of what the government lavishly spends now for “People’s” Initiative will be donated to Gawad instead, or to other worthy private efforts.

But from what I see, to Gloria and her minions, this is a peripheral concern. The most important thing to do now is to fix a government (one that “ain’t broke,” as Toney says), to push the economy forward (by creating supermaids/super-atsoys/superregions, motivating more OFWs,etc.), blah blah. Need we say more?

Compared to fixing the government (assuming that it can be done), helping our countrymen as a private sector initiative brings concrete returns. Tony Meloto et al. never made ‘fixing government’ as his priority. Successful social entrepreneurs chose not to wait for the government to be fixed before they do something pro bono publico. Actually, that’s the trait of successful entrepreneurs – never waiting for the right time to start.

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO ALL BLOGGERS HERE:

We can learn from the journey of the Japanese to be an economic juggernaut.

…the strength of government intervention has not been the decisive factor behind Japan’s success…EVERYTHING THAT HAS OCCURRED IN THIS COUNTRY HAS STEMMED ULTIMATELY FROM THE CUMULATIVE STRENGTH OF THE PEOPLE THEMSELVES (all caps supplied).

Kikuchi Makoto, “Japanese Electronics: A Worm’s Eye-View of its Evolution” Tokyo: Simul Press, 1983)

It is sad that the present and past generations are fixated on two things only:

    (1) how to get a green card/how to immigrate

The past generation that should have made the sacrifice for the Philippines to be a First World country opted to pursue the American dream. The present generation is continuing that, but with more choices now aside from the US – Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, UK, mainland Europe

    (2) the President is the country’s Moses

If we perceive the incubent is not up to the task, we want to kick here out, and look for the next Moses.

Ano ba ang gandang naidulot ng EDSA 1 and 2, in economic terms?

  203. hawaiianguy - October 10, 2006 2:55 am

    Anthony,

“Compared to fixing the government (assuming that it can be done), helping our countrymen as a private sector initiative brings concrete returns. Tony Meloto et al. never made â€fixing government’ as his priority.”

Fixing the govt is this Gloria’s priority, and imposes that on others. The way she and her minions do it is very obvious. They are hell bent on “railroading” the process, no matter what happens.

Tony Meloto is a moral person first and entrepreneur second (or not even an entrepreneur, if we define entrepreneurs as profit seekers). For those who have not heard of him, he is a lay leader of a group known as Couples for Christ. Unlike Velarde’s (or Villanueva’s and Manalo’s), this group has remained apolitical.

His group doesn’t even think of what happens around, they storm the heavens with prayers in their regular gathering, praying even that Gloria and those politicos who “rock the boat” will be enlightened one day.

I wonder how many Melotos are among us, making such a sacrifice, just to advance a moral cause, and mindful of the “true” separation of the church and state. How many are willing to part with their material possessions, while our greedy and pretentious leaders take them away?

Even within the Couples, “dissension” (or however you call it) silently creeps in. The first to raise a voice, or simply leave, are those who cannot give sustained efforts (spending time and their last peso) and cannot ignore the “reality” that they are into. Sooner or later, that reality catches up with them. Thanks anyway to those sincere ground leaders (household heads, cluster heads, etc.) and the unassailable mission of the organization, recruitment continues despite the adversity.

By the way, entrepreneurs (esp those who make it), also follow the grooves of the economic, like law of supply and demand. The supply of entrepreneurs (sheer number, or even quality of their activities) does respond to the demand side (factors that enhance and facilitate), which plays out a niche of its own, like plants that grow on fertile soil. That niche also determines how entrepreneurs come and go. Simply put, entrepreneurs are encouraged (or discouraged) by the kind of govt. we have. Calculating as they are, the mark of successful entrepreneurs depends how they handle certain risks. They come in, when the political environment allows it, and withdraw when they perceive it’s not worth their money. Incidentally, ours is not like Singapore’s (or Korea’s), or the USA’s. We can’t simply follow their footsteps. The “modernistic” path that I think you seem to suggest is not that easy.

Am afraid this will take a longer time to discuss, and this forum may not be the place for it.

Would you do some research for me and see if this man is for real…… His name i believe to be Bins Castro. You can see him on NETLOG Bins1955 and his crew maybe. Look at the video Bins the shooter. I believe this man is not who he says he is. Can you tell me ware he is living maybe Ilocos Norte Ste Rosa. You might check him out really good. I Know he cheets on his wife and a man that holds a public office that does that cannot be trusted with the publics money. I would love to tell his wife who he has been cheating with. So at least she would know her husband. And tell him to stop.
    Thank you
