Mar Roxas improves numbers in latest Pulse Asia survey

mr-padyak Looks like Sen.Mar Roxas “padyak” ads are effective in making people notice him. Or maybe because of his crusade against Legacy owner Celso de los Angeles whom he accused of swindling thousands of plan holders. Or it could be the “Korina Sanchez” factor.

Whatever it is, the latest survey of Pulse Asia showed Roxas’ rating improving by five percent while that other presidential aspirants either slightly declined or remained the same, except for Sen. Loren Legarda, whose numbers dipped by five percent.

In the survey on presidential preference conducted May 4 to 17, 2009, Roxas rating went up to 13 percent from eight percent in the survey conducted February 2 to 15, 2009.

But Roxas still trails Vice-President Noli L. de Castro (18%), Senator
Francis G. Escudero (17%), former President Joseph Estrada (15%), and Senator Manuel B.
Villar, Jr. (14%). (Down load here Pulse Asia survey mr1-ub2009-2-mr-on-may-2010-preferences-final)

The ratings of De Castro and Estrada decreased by one percent from survey four months ago while that of Escudero remained the same.

Ana Marie Tabunda, Pulse Asia’s chief research fellow said given that the survey has a six per cent margin of error, the changes in the numbers are not really significant for now. The top five, she said, are in a statistical tie.

But she said, considering that Roxas was only six percent in October 2008, his 13 percent now is a big improvement.

Loren Legarda is number six with seven per cent followed by Sen. Panfilo Lacson and Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay with the same four per cent ratings.

Sen. Richard Gordon, Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, Chief Justice Reynato Puno, and businessman Manny Pangilinan all got the endorsement of one percent of the respondents.

The survey was conducted among 1,200 respondents 18 years old and above.

  2. Liwayway-Gawgaw Liwayway-Gawgaw

Should election be a reality in 2010, any candidate who could guarantee that gloria arroyo, her family and cabals shall be made to answer for all their abuses will get mine and my family’s votes.

It is the the prosecution of these animals that can ease our sufferings since day one of the corrupt liar and cheat in her stolen office.

No amount of “I am sorry with matching sheepish look” can take away the hatred that evil woman instilled in our hearts. Even the last strand of their flesh is not enough to pay for all the crimes they commited against the Filipino people.

    Ellen,

A very significant legislation is about to be introduced and has the support of all the Parties in the Parliament…the Victims of Terror Rights to Sue in Canadian Courts…

    http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/article/643428

Tories to introduce legislation this week allowing terror victims to sue their attackers.

This relief is available to individuals or groups or tribes to bring their cases to Canadian Courst for civil damages..

Not seen the details of the legislation yet, but it was lobbied for and campaigned by the coalition of the families of the victims of Terrorism, including the 9/11.

The State Immunity Act of the past gives foreign Governments immunity to be sued in Canadian courts other than for Business. This Law will repeal that immunity.

If the new legislation is similar to the private member’s bill, it would apply to acts outside Canada, but some Canadian connection would be needed – such as a Canadian victim or Canadian sponsor of terrorism abroad. But again we will wait and see..

Maybe this will give the Victims of Philippines Government Terrorism Acts the opportunity to get relief for their sufferings and that will include the Acts of the NPAs and the ABUs..etc..

Among the presidentiables, Mar has a better clean record even if he comes from a wealthy family who has never experienced how it was to be poor. He was seen wearing a very expensive pair of shoes while riding the “Padyak”. His popularity and chance to become President shall be boosted when he marries Korina Sanchez.

There’s another reason if not the main reason why US Sec. of Defense came to the Philippines to meet his counterpart Sec. Teodoro. It appears Uncle Sam is supporting Teodoro’s presidency.

Well, try his luck this coming 2010 election…but my personal opinion eh kasama yan na huhusgahan ng Masang Pilipino sapagka’t isa yan sa naghudas sa EDSA 2.

and why is the senate not ordering his arrest for not showing up?????

  11. An eye-opening column by Manolo Quezon calls to mind the assault of then Makati Rep. Joker Arroyo on HR colleague and nemesis, Cong. Manny Villar at a time when Joker was salivating for the top House plum. Ranting then on the manner Villar has kept secret the benefits his realty firm derived from government even if it was against their rule, Joker pounced on his rival for the Speakership all ending in naught.

Today, he is fucking defending him. Joker is such a jerk.

I’ll bet on Mar Roxas and Gordon, let’s choose the less evil among candidates..I use to like Escudero kaso lang puro dada lang din.

  13. bitchevil bitchevil

I prefer Roxas-Gordon team than Roxas-Pangilinan; but would Gordon agree to be the Vice?

  14. Mike Mike

I don’t have any problems with Roxas becoming the next President of our country. He looks decent enough and well educated and knows what he is talking about (I think) unlike other presidentiables. What I dread most about him being the President is his soon to be first lady. Heard a lot about this lady and her tantrums. Ask discreetly from her staff in ABS-CBN and you’ll know what I’m talking about.
Another presidential hopeful who has an attitude problem wife is that of Teodoro’s. Imagine her saying to the media, and threatening at that, that if her husband is not chosen as standard bearer of Lakas, they’ll leave the party and still go on with their plans/ ambitions.
Yikes!!! Another Imeldific in the making.

  15. Mike Mike

Chiz has yet to prove himself worthy of becoming the next president. Nothing substantial in his being a congressman and a senator. Puro co-author lang and puro dada.. Like Gordon, he talks too much.
Villar ang nagpauso ng “cash” envelope when he was speaker of the house. Ginaya tuloy ni Gloria.
Binay, madaming anomalya sa Makati. Try applying for a business permit in that city and you’ll know how rotten it is.
Erap, matanda na. Be a king maker nalang.
Loren, pa cute lang ang alam. Caught lying in the Ces Drilon kidnapping. Wala daw ransom na binayad and she claims she was instrumental in Ces’ release. Oh talaga?

  16. Mike Mike

Noli, what does he know about running the country? Nada..

  17. Mike Mike

  18. bitchevil bitchevil

I absolutely agree with you, Mike. Roxas could be a good President but the obstacle is Korina Sanchez. Once Korina becomes the First Lady, we shall see a combination of Imelda and Gloria. Korina once maltreated her maid and got away with it. She also barged into NBI office to demand release of her friend who was arrested for a crime. Obviously, she’s very dominant. Mar would become henpeck.

  19. Rose Rose

May nagsabi sa akin na taga Roxas city na kahit daw may kaya sila..Acuna ata ang middle name ng Lolo niya..hands on sila sa pagtulong sa mga walang kaya sa Roxas City and very down to earth daw…I certainly hope and pray that he will be our next president…coming from Panay Island since his his grandfather walang naging Presidente na galing sa Panay…since Vice President Fernando Lopez wala rin atang naging Vice President na galing doon..
Naging mahina ang Panay sa politics sa atin for many years..walang maibubuga at maipagmalaki..pero maraming marunong na taga doon..I am not talking about siraulo nor brenda..mukhang may tiriring ang dalawang ito…

  20. Elgraciosa Elgraciosa

Kay Mar na ako! He looks clean and does CLEAN! About Korina? I think she has matured…! bahala na daw si Mar…mag-desciplina!

  21. Roxas has never shown any sign of strength in matters of national importance.

What will make him change as president?

He’s always been a “wally” and a “wimp.”

Why will he be any different in 2010 assuming he wins the presidency.

  25. Mike Velarde also benefited from it. He has not spoken a word since his name was implicated except to say that his company has not received the right of way payment yet. Still, why was this popular religious Preacher involved?

  27. This is just an observation from the Boto mo Ipatrol mo Debate last sunday.

I noticed that Mar Roxas always spoke about himself. He always said statements such as “Ilalaban KO kayo, Di AKO susuko, AKO ang bahala sa inyo, AKO, AKO, AKO.” I heard my neighbor said “Kaplastikan naman ung sinasabi ni Mar Roxas.” I think I agree. Well, that’s only our opinion.

  28. Mr JuanStep,

Re your neigbour’s ““Kaplastikan naman ung sinasabi ni Mar Roxas.” ”

I agree with your neighbour. Roxas has the strappings and the makings of another Romulo Neri!

among ed-danny lim or danny lim-among ed!
    NO to trapos sa 2010!

They blatantly defy the laws, interpreting it for their own selfish ends and advantage. No integrity whatsoever.

I doubt! Ano sila, tanga?!

The people deserve the people they elect into positions of trust.

  31. Elgraciosa Elgraciosa

He’s always been a “wally” and a “wimp.”

Sori, Anna, but am just looking for the less “EVIL” candidate. I just based my judgment on what I read about these candidates. So far, Roxas has come out as the best of the crop. If he has his share of loopholes, well, he’s not infallible! The important thing is, No more of the NUNALISA type…She is the biggest BLUNDER of all. I guess this term is even a very light and unoffensive attribute to her! Correct me!

  32. Trublue Trublue

BE, at 10:32pm June 1, you claimed Roxas marrying Sabunotera Korina will boost his candidacy. At 2:21am June 2, you expressed the idea of Sabunotera Korina a combination of Imelda and Gluerilla.

This is like Pareng Coy telling me tomorrow, Dick has no more “laway” to use as a projectile.

    Hi Ellen,

I’ve been reading your blog for years now.
About Mar Roxas, I agree with some bloggers here
that he is not suitable to become president.
People from Capiz said, his mom is the one telling him
what to do. They own lots of business in Roxas City and no one is allowed to compete. It’s obvious nag gagamitan lang sila ni Korina.
    Yes, No to trapos.

    the most eligible presidentiable!
he to me has the qualities of a good president.
finally the choices of presidentiables for 2010 are not just basura.
i hope more and more pinoys will find it in their heart that their one singular vote is their pamana to the next generation.

if we bungled on 2010, wala na talaga. palubog na pati ulo ng pinas sa kumunoy.

mar roxas is the most eligible dahil walang bahid, ang perang gagastusin sa kampanya ay from their family’s hard earned money and not from govt. contracts, deals, etc.

i admire this man, ganda ng bio data. pwedeng itapat kay obama dahil both are achievers. hindi product lang ng pr like villar na obviously ay product of media hype. (c/o boy abunda)

korina is not perfect but to me, the measure whether or not she is worthy of being the next first lady is her devotion to her mother land. she has spent 25 years of her life in public service. wow, bilib ako syao korina. NOW IS THE TIME THE FILIPINO REWARD HER BACK BY VOTING FOR THE MAN WHO WIL BRING HER TO THE ALTAR.

sana si mar na ang susunod na pangulo. sana. im hoping and praying, if i need to beg from all my kamaganaks i will do just to convince them, mar is the best.

sa ibang presidentiables, theyre all tainted by scandals, corruption and dark past.

    MAY BUKAS KAY ROXAS!!!

i hope kris aquino and tita cory will endorse mar roxas.
malakas na hatak yan. and also sana si susan roces. sana mar will be endorse by iglesia ni cristo also.

si noli de castro, could have been the ramon magsaysay of the 21st century but he does not have the brains to run an economy.

we need honesty plus capability plus credibility. mar has all the qualities

hhmmm… pag si kris, magandang preparation for her for 2016. sino kaya ? siguro from luzon angkunin ni mar. my guess is lacson or escudero.

si kiko pangilinan as usual disappointed me.
he disappointed me when during his mr. noted days.
he disappointed me when he chose to go for villar.
ano ba ikaw kiko, wala ka ng kredibilidad! nakikisakay ka lang kay sharon. i find you a weak leader. id rather vote for vilma than kiko for vp. parehing plastik ang dating ni sharon at kiko sa akin at mga kaibigan ko. no wonder, irita si manay susan roces sa inyo. mga plastikada.

On March 11, 1942, MacArthur, his inner circle, Quezon and Osmeña left Corregidor…

For ballast, MacArthur had 20 tons of gold loaded on the U.S. submarine that was leaving for Australia where Roosevelt had assigned him Supreme Allied Commander South West Pacific Area. It is unknown whether this gold was the property of the Philippine government or private property. Manuel Roxas, the man who would later become president, remained in the Philippines to sink the remaining gold reserves in Manila Bay to prevent the Japanese from seizing it.15

There’s no problem with speaking too much because what Dick Gordon was saying were sensible and essential statements.

Probable senatorial candidates on the Erap list are Senate President Johnny Ponce Enrile, Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, Sen. Bong Revilla, former Senators Serge Osmeña and Butch Aquino, Mayor Jojo Binay, Gina de Venecia, Grace Poe, former Rep. Ted Failon, Rep. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Rep. Roilo Golez, Rosemarie “Baby Arenas and Gen. Danny Lim.

…You would notice that Miriam Santiago is not in the list. She has been removed.

  42. bitchevil bitchevil

Ang tanong, kinunsulta ba silng dalawa? Pumayag ba?

  45. Mike Mike

    Mr. JuanStep,
Gordon is not exactly squeaky clean. He has issues too in Olongapo. But not as garapal as the other presidentiables.

  46. bitchevil bitchevil

I heard Erap has cut down his drinking for health reasons. It’s a strict order from his doctor.

The list is only temporary. I was surprised why Rep. Teddy Casino or Satur Ocampo was not included.

  47. Mike Mike

In fairness, Gordon is a doer, a motivator as can be seen with what he did in Olongapo and Subic in the aftermath of Pinatubo and when the American’s left their military bases. What I don’t like about him aside from him being a blabber mouth, he looks like a very vindictive person. Not a good trait for a person who wants to be a leader of a country.

He is a fighter lalo na during martial law pero still alive and kicking.

  49. Mike Mike

Erap for me is already passe. If he is really serious about uniting the opposition as he has been claiming. Then he should forget or even entertain the thought of running himself. If he can’t really unite all, at least trimming it down to 2 or 3 opposition candidates, then support the one who is high on the survey ratings, I think the opposition will win. Top opposition candidate (based on surveys) plus the Erap factor has a big chance of winning.

  50. Mike Mike

Erap thinks that if he runs again for the top post against multiple candidates he will win hands down. I don’t think so, for one, the supreme court will not side with him on the issue of eligibility to run again despite his claims that legal experts/ luminaries are saying that he can. Second, there is Noli Kabayan who also has the appeal of the masses. It will still be a toss-up between the two.

  51. andres andres

Mar Roxas would have been a good presidential candidate, he has the name, the looks, the brains, etc… But the problem is, Mr. Palengke does not make a stand! He is always on the safe side! It is only now that he is making noise because he wants to run for president.

    Mar is a Mama’s Boy.

special commendation from President Aquino herself.
    – His strengths as a mayor include his determination to
provide quality education for all Makati residents.
Makati public schools are among the best public schools
in the Philippines, comparable to most private schools in
    terms of facilities and instruction.
    – The local government of Makati, under Binay’s leadership
has built pre schools, elementary/high schools and
special education schools throughout Makati. The public
school students’ books, school materials and school
uniform are also subsidized by the local government.
Binay also issued the first local government health card,
called the “yellow card” to Makati residents which cover
a certain amount of hospitalization costs. He was also
the first to introduce free movie tickets to senior
citizens subsidizing the costs wherein senior citizens
could watch movies at Makati malls.
    – For helping political prisoners, many MABINI lawyers,
including Binay, were locked up in local jails and
    military stockades.
    As MMDA Chairman:
    – In 1998, Binay was appointed Chairman of the Metropolitan
    MMDA with cabinet rank.
    – He was also appointed as Vice-chairman of the Pasig River
Rehabilitation Commission and Traffic Czar for Metro
    Manila.

(JSCSC), and the UP School of Urban and Regional
    Planning.
    – He was senior executive fellow of the John F. Kennedy
School of Government at Harvard University. [29]
    World Mayor:-
    – In 2006 Binay was chosen among the Top 10 Mayors of the
World. In an on-line poll organized by CityMayors.com,
Binay placed 4th overall behind John So of Melbourne,
Australia, Job Cohen of Amsterdam, Netherlands and
    Stephen R. Reed, Harrisburg, USA.

…to be continue… Mayor J.Binay is the only 2010 Presidential aspirant na nananatiling opposition at dignidad sa sarili.

He is full of shit, full of air!

  55. bitchevil bitchevil

Erap-Binay or Escudero is good. With Legarda’s sinking rate, she may agree to be anyone’s running mate including with Erap.
Ping Lacson is out. Manny Villar may end up with Kiko Pangilinan. Roxas is negotiating with Ping to be his running mate. Teodoro would either back out at the last minute or agree to be the running mate of whoever the administration picks. A Noli-Teodoro ticket is possible.

  56. This blogsite is definitely opposition dominated. But judging by how the commenters will vote, it looks like Gloria’s anointed one will run away with the pot.

    Tsk tsk tsk.

We have eleven months to agree on one common candidate, guys. Let’s just set the rules before we agree. First, no unverifiable chismis or haka-haka – walang sabi ng kapitbahay ko… Let’s get the facts straight no matter how devastating but let’s dwell more on the positives – achievements, gov’t service record, credentials, you know what I mean. The mudslinging will surely be a part of it but let’s get the candidate a chance to address those issues.

Then we go to their program of gov’t. Etcha-puwera yung walang plano. Let’s analyze if he/she has the capability to do it.

Then, most importantly, let’s ask what he plans to do with all the crimes of Gloria and her ilk. This will determine if he/she has the balls to enforce justice. It will also be necessary to know who his future cohorts will be.

  57. bitchevil bitchevil

I’m not exactly an Erap supporter or fan. But it would be good to let him continue his programs. He was untimely ousted and unable to do much for the country. Most of all, if the opposition fails to unite, Erap is the best option…unless you want an administration candidate to win.

  58. chi chi

  60. waterboy waterboy

mar roxas for me! although medyo negative ang dating ni korina based on her past issues, sana nga nag-mature na sya. if the opposition are to support a single candidate, sana si Mar na. yung iba bakla, I mean .. kung desidido ka mag-presidente, i-declare mo na. hindi yung madami pang dahilan na sinasabi.

  61. chi chi

Pero, pag-aaralan ko silang mabuti dahil this election (kung meron man) is very precious to me.

I also need to hear their plata porma de gobyerno.

No second chance for Erap, he bungled it by not acting/deciding fast…

No to Chiz, Noli, Loren, Villar, Gibo at etc.

  62. bitchevil bitchevil

I heard Dick is a Dicktator. He always insists on what he wants. Also, he’s fickle minded like a woman. And if he becomes the President, expect the rainy season all the year.

Erap is an actor. For all we know, he could just be acting by saying he wants to run. In politics, there’s what we call bluffing and strategy. But whether you believe in him or not, no one can deny that his support and endorsement is crucial to any candidate.

  63. bitchevil bitchevil

As for Ping, he’s in for a deep trouble with Mancao and Dumlao’s arrival to testify against him on the Dacer murder case….plus the fact that Ping lacks financial resources and political base. He blew his chance last 2004. If he only agreed to be FPJ’s Vice, he would have been our President today.

  64. bitchevil bitchevil

News analysis: Is Mancao’s return part of con-ass plan?

The return of a fugitive could just be the movement of a pawn to protect the queen. The timing of Cezar Mancao’s arrival Thursday morning, so soon after the approval of the House of Representatives’ con-ass resolution, is either an uncanny coincidence or part of an elaborate plan by the administration to stay in power.

  65. Gloria is banking on the fact that madaling lokohin ang mga Filipino.

Bibili lang siya ng 1 million copies ng newspaper na may fabricated and paid headline, “Mancao accuses Ping Lacson of Dacer murder” tapos distributed sa buong Maynila (hindi sa buong Pinas iyon) — ayos!!!

Naloko na naman niya ang mga Pinoy.

What Pinoys don’t realise is that the military is the least fearsome of all the agencies.

Couldn’t agree more BE, Ping, like Gloria has this “what I want I get” attitude. Ping may not be as corrupt as Gloria but this type of attitude I mentioned is kinda scary, don’t you think? Can’t take no for an answer type silang dalawa. Buti nalang di rin siya naging pangulo.

  68. bitchevil bitchevil

Yes, Mike. Pride sometimes destroys a person. Now that Mancao is here, the best thing for Ping is to run as Vice President. In the first place, he’s way behind in the surveys. A Roxas-Lacson team is good. Erap-Lacson is not possible if Erap really runs since the two have a falling out since the 2004 election. But Erap-Lacson team is a very strong one.

  69. Madonna Madonna

Mar Roxas is being pushed by the Establishment (the old elite, mass media, big business). What bothers me is that he looks like he belong to the invertebrate specie of political animals (Ana de Brux is right: look at his track record — wimpy, spineless and opportunistic at every turn). The oligarchs will prefer Roxas because he stands for status quo, seemingly clean (baka nasa loob ang kulo?) and will play by their rules.

    Plus Korina Sanchez, EWWWWWWWWW.

Disclosure: I am betting on Villar, despite the exposes on him. He has the willpower and at least to me, the right intentions (the heart).

  70. Mike Mike

Ping withdraws from running for prez in 2010, so how many “real” opposition candidates are left?

    Erap
    Chiz
    Mar
    Loren
    Binay
    B/Gen. Lim

If only Erap withdraws, and his support will go to the one getting the highest ratings in survey. Tapos na ang boxing even against Kabayan. To be very honest, all of the above is ok with me, as long as the midget and her lackeys will be wiped out.

  71. Mike Mike

I see a 6-way fight for the top post in 2010, if elections pushes thru..,
    Gibo
    Gordon
Chiz or Loren (depends on NPC)
    Villar
    Kabayan
    Mar

Bayani is considered a nuisance candidate.
I doubt Erap will still run (I hope he doesn’t)
