Coming to a head

What could have been in the minds of soldiers while they were watching the televised testimony of former Comelec Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano last Wednesday and that of Shariah Judge Nagamura Moner at yesterday’s Senate hearings on wiretapping?

What could the soldiers be feeling, especially those who take seriously the AFP Code of conduct “to support and defend the Constitution” and “to fight all forces that would destroy the freedom and independence of the Filipino people?”

It was obvious that Garcillano’s craftily scripted House testimony was an attempt by Malacañang to put “closure” to the issue of Gloria’s illegitimate presidency. No different from Mike Defensor’s “binalbag” misrepresentation of an American voice expert’s analysis. It was meant to bomb out the Hello Garci tapes that showed Garcillano and Arroyo talking 15 times about rigging the results of the 2004 elections. Both attempts at “closure” turned out to be duds.

If the latest SWS survey, conducted over a period of eight days starting on the day Garcillano resurfaced via an ABS-CBN interview where he gave a preview of what he said at the House of Representatives last Wednesday, is to be the gauge of the people’s reaction to Malacañang’s moves, it is clear that Malacañang’s aggressive propaganda is not working.

Dissatisfaction over Arroyo’s performance further dipped to minus 30 (from minus 23), the second lowest by the low-rating Arroyo. The lowest was minus 33 in May this year, at the beginning of jueteng revelations against her husband, her son Mikey and brother-in-law Iggy Arroyo.

Garcillano is one of Arroyo’s remaining last few cards. She has tried everything, to the extent of destroying institutions, to make people believe she did not cheat. Starting with Congress which relegated to “Noted” the glaring proofs of election cheating and proclaimed her winner while the people were asleep. she got support from the Supreme Court when it refused the petition of Susan Roces to carry on her husband’s quest for the truth in the 2004 elections.

The killing of the impeachment complaint against Arroyo by her allies in the House gave her a brief respite but not the closure she had wanted to achieve.

After last Wednesday, Garcillano is now a spent asset. Whether he produces his passport or not on Dec. 14 doesn’t matter anymore to the public. If he says he can’t find his passport, it would be a confirmation to the public that he lied when he said he didn’t leave the country during the time that he disappeared from public view. If he produces his passport, without an arrival stamp by the Singapore immigration, the public will say that Malacañang’s master forgers went to work.

The guy simply has zero credibility.

The new president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines Angel Lagdameo has given Arroyo a sneak preview of what would be coming from the influential group in the coming weeks. It would be vastly different from the Capalla-led CBCP.

At a Philippine National Prayer breakfast gathering, Lagdameo, in the presence of Arroyo, said: “An accountable leader doesn’t sweep the truth under the carpet. They do not run away from the truth or try to camouflage it. They take responsibility. They make restitution or try to repair the damage they have done, when they have done wrong.”

The civil society groups are now flirting with extra-constitutional alternatives after having given up on Vice President Noli de Castro, who has chosen to stick it out with Arroyo.

In ANC’s “Strictly Politics” last Tuesday, Commodore (ret.) Rex Robles said something intriguing. He said Arroyo can have a merry Christmas because the reform-minded members of the military are “dormant.”

Most of them are “schooling”, he said. Host Pia Hontiveros was curious: “Schooling?”

Robles said, “Yes. Probably governance.”

Interesting. It makes us wonder if it is in preparation for a future undertaking.

That’s why we are curious about the bombings which occurred on the day Garcillano was testifying in the Lower House . The statement of Rep. Roilo Golez expresses what we have in mind.

Golez, a retired military officer, noted that the LTA building is located in a narrow street (difficult get-away) and the house of Rep. Ronaldo Puno’s residence is in a highly secured village.

He said: “If true, they don’t speak well of the country’s security situation. If not true, they don’t speak well of the country’s political situation. What scenario is being woven?”

He suggested that “the citizenry goes on red alert in the face of government’s nonfeasance (failure to preserve law and order ) or malfeasance.”

    Congressman Golez, ang mga Pilipino,
    Matagal na pong Red Alert, yan po ay seriyoso;
Bulsa namin ay “on the red” din pagkat walang sensilyo.

    Sa mga kakapalan ng mga walanghiya;

Since I already mentioned in other blogs

My dad was the former Asec of National defense during ramos time and at present the consultant of the chairman of the committee on national defense

concerning military sentiments he is a grat balancer…he managed to leave Fort Bonifacio without being censured form lack of pakikisama…during 89 coup he called both sides to hear from two sides of the coin….someone even joked to arrest him..

with all that expereiences he evn wrote a book for the national defense college re: National interest

that before mapping a roadmap one most know what they want…

like a doctor wont give prescriptions just by a mere knock on the door

a father not giving a child a car just because the child cried

The exchange of Biazon and Abalos re: Biazon reminding abalos that we are in a political crisis because of our electoral system…and Abalos denying that there is a problem and booomeranging that it was the opposition that rejected the automation of electoral process…

but before that he denied that there were problems in electoral process and it was Garci’s fault…..

National interest knowing the interest of nation by knowing what they want and need…..

I appreciate what the First Gentleman did and what he plans for our athletes….

    BUT dear FG
WE will not forget that easily how you are a smooth operator asking for campaign contributions from the top 1000 companies during the 2004 elections

if each gave 1 million then that was instant 1 billion

People time not to be apathetic we all know those open secrets!!!!

Yeterday if it were not that boy who cried wolf type who testified in the senate I would want to believe every single word…

  4. Karl Karl

The house gave Garcillano 7 days to produce a passport. I bet he will be able to do that – produce a passport in his name. Now what will that mean? – only that and only that he is capable with the help of unknown persons to produce a passport. But it will not mean that he did not go to Singapore – of that I am sure.

  6. Even if he can produce a new passport (which he could present as old), how about the stamp of arrival of the Singapore immigration? Of course, with money, they can fake everything. But who would believe him at this point?

But don’t you have the feeling that things are coming to a head?

  7. When it comes to garapalan, Fg is really tops. Did you seem him on TV in the celebration for the SEA games victory. Wow, he was dancing. Kapal talaga.

  8. And how about Peping Cojuanco, President of the POC? He had a posting on the ASEAN website about basketball. Why was basketball delisted in the Games? alam mo ba? He wants to convert some property of Imelda’s near Clark into a sports training complex. baka ang taong bayan na naman ang denggoy dyan.

The philippines won the overall championship sa SEA games.

first time raw ito nangyari sa atin.

let’s give credit where it’s due. aside from the athletes, some credit should go to the arroyo administration too for making it happen.

    MABUHAY ANG ARROYO ADMINISTRATION! MABUHAY!

  11. Funny, Earthling but every successive host of the SEA Games wins an unbelievable haul of medals. Last time Vietnam got 150 medals! That’s really not to take anything away from the athletes, but let’s face it, the SEA Games are really POLITICS by ATHLETIC means.

    Ellen,

Re Rizalist’s question; maybe she’s feeling abandoned. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned (or feeling ‘scorned’)!

    Heheheh! Careful now Rizalist!

Why is everyone forgetting that Gloria recently revived the long dead AFP Counter-Intelligence Unit? The revival of this intel unit is actually not to track Communists, Leftists, guerillas, hukblahaps, rebels in Mindanao, etc. but to act as a counter-intel operation unit within the AFP against members of the AFP who are suspected of being anti-Gloria!!!!

It was revived a day or two before the retirement of General Efren Abu.

For info, the AFP Counter-Intelligence Unit is headed today by a Gloria die hard who sought her out to offer his services while she was still VP and even then was already eyeing the presidency for her!!!

  13. ELLEN:
Negroponte, Dir.of National Intelligence and Chris “Kit” Bond (Defense, Appropriations, Intel) were here a day apart.

A de Brux: my question was serious! scorned yes, but still in love, i think so…for what woman or man would proudly admit to being someone else’s NO. 3 in a Senate committee hearing. Imagine how lovely Doble feels seeing her standing up for her man on nationwide TV, saying he was just ordered to do this, having twinges of conscience, still supports his families, etc. Oh the heart is a lonely hunter…

  14. She did all that and has risked her very life, for what? … for the desperate hope that once in a while Vidal Doble will text her those few precious syllables she wants to hear, to sustain her through many a lonely year to come, and to thrill him with a message broadcast to the whole world: I LOVE YOU TOO!

  15. Thats exactly one of the huge problems of the anti-arroyo camp right now. Nobody can say what their true motivations are. I dont think anybody can put faith on them, and nobody really has. At least not me. The distrust may be not as great as that against the Arroyo camp, but its enough to hold us to inaction.

    Pagkat sa puso ko ay meyron nang kumikirot;
    “. . . naku, nanang ko, . . . laking kulangot.”

Well, DJB, stranger things have happened to even to some of the supposedly most educated women of better pedigree when they are in love. Look at Gloria, her love for Mike (Piggy) Arroyo made her accept everything that he is – a lawbreaker although unconvicted, a two-timer, although he denies it, an ugly pig to boot, etc.. As to Doble’s 3rd mistress, she’s just one of those stupid little girls from a parochial background who was blinded by some kind of macho power… Doble probably pranced around like an idiot immitating James Bond. Heh!

And to GraySpectrum.I am anti-Arroyo and she may text me all the I LOVE YOUs and the I’M SORRYs but nothing will change. She committed high treason by breaching the Constitution and what it stands for and that to me, that is unpardonable. That’s my motivation.

  18. Samuel Ong dadamputin raw ng PNP

    http://www.abante.com.ph/issue/dec0905/news6.htm

It was Garci who plotted to kidnap COMELEC official Hali.

  19. Gloria isn’t half as interesting a woman as this Mayet is. Maybe she is a “stupid little girl from a parochial background” but I think it is such simple folks who will break this case wide open, while we, who are smart and big and hail from urbane backgrounds, beat our chests and curse our helplessness on blogs. . .I think Mayet makes observing our tragic state worth it, an activity whose common reward is an empty schadenfreude. She makes me believe in: POETRY, NOT POLITICS!

  21. Anna de Brux Anna de Brux

    Rizalist,

You are absolutely right! Men would find a woman very, very interesting particularly if she’s (or even if only half) as bold as Doble’s 3rd mistress – look at Matahari and what’s her name now… you know Lacson’s nemesis, oh yeah – Rosebud, etc. They titilate the imagination of the intellectual in men, well in some of them. Just look at you. Hey, there’s nothing wrong with that – I’m a liberal when it comes to these things. Each to his own libido…

Coming from a parochial background doesn’t mean she’s an idiot – just stupid if she indeed fell for Doble’s prancing around like a parochial James Bond.

And who says we’re urbane? We’re all parochials…It’s Garci or Gloria who’s being urbane in the scheme of things. Heh!

  22. My impression of Mayet is , she still loves Doble. I was told Doble also loves her but under the circumstances, he can’t do anything but stay with his wife, whom he has left sometime ago.

It looks like Mayet was telling the truth.

By the way Rizalist, Environment Secretary Mike Defensor told me last Tuesday that it was the NSC that prepared the Political Security Situationer. It was presented to the cabinet by NSC Deputy Director Vic Mayo. Defensor declined to say whose marginal notes were in the document.

Re Negroponte’s visit, I have a feeling they are getting frustrated with the current situation. Their anti-terrorism campaign is suffering with a government that has no support from the people.

  23. What I know of Vidal Doble is this. He is an expert in electronics and the arcane art of microwave antennae tuning. People who testified to his character said he was perfectionist as a technician and dedicated to his work with a maniacal passion (a quality Mayet no doubt enjoyed in him too.) Granted he would be better called Agent Triple, but the trail up to the ultimate criminal begins right with him and those 13 other men. I focus on Mayet only because I think these guys are mostly like SUBMARINERS in the navies of the world — a very special breed of men who exist in the netherworld between ordinary society and the caverns of state secrecy == who also attract a very special breed of women, fiercely loyal, peculiarly resilient and patient. I say there are at least 13 other women of possibly great value to the ongoing investigation of the Senate. For the men are naturally under omerta, both enforced and from a deep sense of loyalty to the group. But the women, if they are like all Filipinas I happen to know, talked among themselves, kept each other company, compared notes about their men and what they were doing. That group probably has the most comprehensive understanding of the wiretapping operation outside its command and control structure. Their collective voice would be a powerful antidote to the Judas Goat and the mass confusion he has sown. People should focus on this crime against their lovers and husbands and the Military Organization that has been raped by person or persons unknown who prostituted them all to an evil and insane purpose. WE must cherish these men and women of OUR Armed Forces, for they are not only our protectors. I predict they will be our liberators from this Archipelago of Lies in which we now exist.

  24. Anna de Brux Anna de Brux

    Ellen,

Oh yeah? Vic Mayo’s office? Indeed! Why am I not surprised?

In an earlier e-mail of mine, I said that the political situationer might have been prepared by either Gabby Claudio or by the office of Vic Mayo.

Vic is a good officer who also happens to know lots and lots of “things.” I understand that he is quite ill but he has a staff who are equally capable of interpreting what he wants done to a perfect T.

Vic Mayo, from my reading of the man is or was a Constitutional soldier… If Rizalist could get near him, he might be able to convince Vic to open up and spill the beans. I suggest further that Rizalist speak to Josie, Vic’s formidable wife and partner (she epitomizes “the woman behind every successful man”). I like Josie, she’s really a great gal – I think behind the veneer of a cynic, she is a true patriot.

  25. Anna de Brux Anna de Brux

    rizalist,

But the Philippines has no submarine service.

It would take more than 30 years for a nation to develop a real submarine culture. Very few of our men in the Navy have even gotten close to a submarine.

If you mean “submariners” as in “spooks”, I would agree, there are many in the service that are submariners.

    John,

Garci and Isafp were tools. They have since been discarded. In that sense they are victims…in the same way that used condoms are victims.

  31. John: U R confused about two crimes: voterigging and wiretapping. Surely no one thinks Garci was a perpetrator of wiretapping do you? He was a “victim” of that crime which was perpetrated by ISAFP and persons unknown. But Garci was probably a perpetrator in the crime of voterigging if all the suspicions are true. The victims of that crime were the Filipino people. I really have to work harder at this blogging thing I guess since you don’t seem to understand this yet I know you always read my stuff. Sorry.

  32. John,

Garci and Isafp were tools. They have since been discarded. In that sense they are victims…in the same way that used condoms are victims.

Words are important, Manuel, and portraying them as GMA or ISAFP’s “victims” is ludicrous. A person who gets kidnapped is a victim, as were the people who were incinerated in the Twin Towers during 9/11.

But Garci as GMA’s cheating tool is not a “victim”. He’s part of the problem.

Doble is part of the ISAFP team is he not? Siya yung nag-wa-wiretap sa mga officials, whether from the opposition or from the administration.

Calling Doble a “victim” is like calling the Nazi soldiers who did all the killing “victims” rin dahil ginamit o naimpluensiyahan lang sila ni Hitler.

It’s an insult to the real victims in NAZI Germany (the Jews and the other countries invaded by Germany).

  33. John: U R confused about two crimes: voterigging and wiretapping. Surely no one thinks Garci was a perpetrator of wiretapping do you? He was a “victim” of that crime which was perpetrated by ISAFP and persons unknown.

Nope. I don’t see Garci as a “victim”.

I don’t think the gov’t and ISAFP has any right to invade our privacy via illegal wiretapping. Kung ginawa sa atin yan, then dapat tayong lumaban.

But in garcillano and gma’s case, I’m willing to make an exception and see the tapes played in it’s entirety… because the Hello Garci tapes contain information that exposes corruption, election fraud, obstruction of justice, kidnapping, bribery, at the highest levels in office.

And I also want to use these tapes to expose ISAFP, gma’s spy organization who did all the wiretapping and eavesdropping against the opposition candidates, the admin candidates and the media.

I want to know kung how many wiretapped tapes they still have in their library, sino ang na-wiretap nila, how many times they wiretapped these people, when did they do it, and how did they do it. ISAFP needs to come clean on this issue. Release all their tapes to the public and let the people decide.

    LOL. How ironic.

But Garci was probably a perpetrator in the crime of voterigging if all the suspicions are true.

So now you think the GLORIAGATE election fraud case vs. Garci and GMA are just “suspicions” eh?

    Ellen, “suspicions” raw yun? LOL.

  34. Anna de Brux Anna de Brux

    Ellen,

To me, the suspicions against Garci and by extension, against Gloria Macapagal are based on strong, undeniable, palpable circumstancial evidences that the voters have been cheated of their constitutional right.

The current circus allowing Garci to take the Legislature, the media and the nation as a whole for a ride doesn’t alter the fact that a crime has been committed.

Now, if certain quarters do not want to accept the idea that these circumstancial evidences should be basis for charging Garci and Gloria of a crime, then these people should think hard and remind themselves of the following:

REMEMBER: President Estrada, the duly elected and Constitutional president of the Republic of the Philippines was stripped, judged inapt, constructively resigned by no other than the Supreme Court of the Philippines headed by Chief (In)justice Davide based on pure HEARSAYS & CIRCUMSTANCIAL EVIDENCES. Therefore it is but right to charge and convict Garci and Gloria based on the same elements!

I say sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander!

There’s enough circumstancial evidences to warrant criminal indictement of Garci, and by extension, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for crime or crimes against the nation which even an extremely cautious and cynical Potius Pilate would have been hard put not to consider as legal evidences.

Let’s put it this way, sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander.

Either charge Garci and Gloria for committing a crime against the nation or hang them by their ears from the highest lamppost illico!

  35. Tiago Tiago

    Makikisingit lang po.
i can see that i am among distinguished bloggers.

The only comment i have is that Garci will never come out clean in any investigation whatsoever. This is my gut feeling. He will either incriminate himself or the persons behind his ever popular activities during the elections of 2004. It may not be forthcoming as he has been quite a hard nut to crack up this point, but sooner or later he will. i can’t blame him for having bodyguards because everyone is after his hide. What i could not understand is the mediocrity of asking for his passport, when the guy we’re talking about could even change the history of the Philippines(as if he hasn’t)! He’s running mincemeat out of our system. It’s pathetic, isn’t it?

  36. Anna de Brux Anna de Brux

    Re Tiago’s blog…

Right on Tiago. You are great.

You say what should be said in its entirety and in a tiny paragraph at that! You are the distinguished one (and I certainly am not).

  37. We are all distinguished. If Gloria Arroyo and others do not agree with that, that’s their problem.
