Ma-Honduras kaya tayo?

I doubt it very much, coz it’s the Honduran military who acted against Zelayan (is it correct??), while here in the Pinas, tsk, tsk, tsk…. the military is all for the leprechaun. so how can it happen? they (the AFP) will, but only to protect their patron saint of all “DOROBOS”.

And VOILA!!!! the military coup is for the leprechaun.

The Armed Forces ni Pidal (AFP) and Police ni Pidal (PNP) are castrated. The top honchos (PMA class ’78) have no balls to fight Malacanang unless patriotic junior officers and men will make their move. They are paid to protect their Queen Gloria.

  3. Elgraciosa Elgraciosa

Tama sila Diego at Prans. Our only HOPE are the junior officers!

Do miracles still happen?

  4. Kejotee Kejotee

I would like to see people power at work rather than banana republic peeling. The military have got lots of bananas from gloria and therefore a monkey rebellion is unlikely. It is about time that people power show its muscle and national character, otherwise the next pretender in the palsce by the murky river will be just another gooria clone.

Hindi hinding mangyayari ito kay Gloria hawak.. niya sa pantalon ang PMA Class 1978 na under ng falda niya…and to top it all adding insults to the people..may mga retired generals na para sa bayan kuno na takot naman to come out in the open where thery actually stand in regards to Gloria..mukhang naging retarded at nakalimutan ang sinumpa nila..For the Nation, For the People…what can Senator Trillanes do? what can Gen. Lim and the Tanay Boys do?
They are detained…even if they want to do something..there is nothing they can do…our military is a hopeless case…matulog na lang kaya tayo at hintayin na bumagsak ang eroplano na sinasakyan ni Gloria…at ang mga 40 tong grease men na buntot niya..let us just sing ay ay kalisud..kalisud sang kina pabay-an kag kina lapakan!

I second your opinion, ‘igan BALWEG. Professional morality (kung meron mang ganyang pananalita) among the ranks of the police and the military is DEAD. But to be fair to those who still cling to their solemn oath of patriotism however few they may be in numbers, what I have to say does not apply to them.

Either way they so choose, honesty, honor, and integrity are the main battle-cry of these highly trained professionals to give credence to their lofty and (supposed to be) respectable positions of power.

Ang nangyari, due to the brutality of corruption dealt by the shit-hole in the palace called, gloria, and add to this the very weak character and misguided principles of those concerned when it comes to money, the erthswhile professional soldier became a MERCENARY. And once they became a mercenary, technically (borrowing the term from cerge remonde), these soldiers CEASED to be soldiers of the Filipino people. They became, instead, “soldiers for hire” whose allegiance they un-questionably give to whosoever gives them the blood money. Who knows, they may even fight for the Abu Sayyaff for as long as the price is right. Otherwise close it for good if it would only breed traitors ! Why do we have make scholars of these people if, after spending for them, they would turn against us ! Haven;t they heard of the saying, “you do not bite the hand of that who feed you” ?

What irks me is that hindi na nga sila mga sundalo ng Pilipinas, makapal pa rin ang mga mukha nila na isuot ang uniporme ng TOTONG sundalo ni Juan de la Cruz. It is like adding insult to injury.

Ang isa pang malungkot, even as there MAY be truly patriotic few in the military and the police, and assuming still that they know they are obeying orders inconsistent to what they are supposed to be fighting for, they still choose to aim the barrels of their guns to the oppressed people who could barely buy a stash of noodle for a day’s meal.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGHHH !!! Ngitngit ng pitong dwende !

  13. Kim Kim

Puwah !

  14. parasabayan parasabayan

Let us hope that Ibrado follows the Vasquez move before he gets booted out to be replaced by Emperor Bangit. He only has a very small window of opportunity to stand by the people. Ginawa na rin lang siyang “extender” in order not to make so obvious that the pandak is favoring the emperor, totohanin na niya na siya ay isang tunay na “chief of Staff”!

  15. parasabayan parasabayan

The Magdalos and the Tanay Boys are clipped. They are heavily guarded. Those who are incarcerated have done their part. Let us not expect them to do more.

The last witness was the John Rat. He had to master his piece before he sat on the witness stand. That was his chance to show pandak that he is worthy of the Commandant’s position. I have a gut feeling that instead of Sabban, the rat is favored to be the Marine Commandant.

Lim hindi sila nakulong ngayon..if those who could walked with them to Peninsula Hotel but did not…hindi seguro sila nakulong..it is more than too late now…useless na at wala ng magagawa…might as well just say Hell to the Cheat and bow saying…oh watanassiam….

Ano kayo hilo???????

But to be fair to those who still cling to their solemn oath of patriotism however few they may be in numbers, what I have to say does not apply to them.

One of the very few comments that give justice to those who are still out of Malacanang pockets. Two thumbs up!

Oftentimes, in the heat of our passion, we tend to generalize our reference to institutions just because their leaders are ‘evil’. We need to realize that there are still people in these institutions who are upright, noble and are worthy of our trust. If we need their heroic participation in our pursuit for a better Philippines, we must not antagonize them through our careless generalizations.

  27. Based on comments of Rose and Kim, we cannot follow the pattern of Honduras. I do not know their history. We can not diagnose a patient with a chronic illness based only on the present circumstances and present symptoms. Good physicians always look into the history of their patients.

In like manner we need to look at our history for the illness of our nation is chronic. Ours is a pattern of lack of love by us, for our nation. Since they are capable, those who have access to power and wealth have their actions create a greater impact on the nation than those among us who are poor.

The common pattern is loss of love. The underlying cause is the corruption of our system by the Americans when they invaded us in 1899 to turn our attitude of from fierce resistance to invasion to worshipping dependents of American invasion. Our identity was corrupted. Our love for our nation was corrupted. It was replicated from one generation to the next.

That is why generations of us Filipinos lost our love for our nation and became worshipping dependents of the American invasion still being continued today in more subtle methods. Because of lost of love, those who have access to power used them for personal gains as long as they remain puppets of the Americans.

But as Ka Enchong said, not everybody has been infected. those who have not been infected can reverse the situation. History of France in World War 2 is nearer to our situation. Gen de Gaulle led a resistance movement to expel the German invasion and the French puppet government the Germans installed. A few years after the liberation of France from the Germans and its puppet government, De Gaulle removed the US base from France.

Filipino generals should appreciate the nationalism and professionalism and above all, the courage of De Gaulle.

Kaibigang jose Miguel, foremost, I want you to know that I agree with you with the Pinoy’s “lack of love of country” syndrome.
But I beg to cut this short for now as I have to work. I’ll be back in a few hours to continue what would be an expanded and interesting discussion of what you have started.

  31. parasabayan parasabayan

Dandaw, posibleng kampihan ni BO si pandak as long as pandak follows his wishes. The charter change actually works best for the American business. Never mind the Filipinos.

Gaya na ng nasabi ng ilan nating mga kaibigan dito sa ellenville to which I also agree, for as long as any leader of a country serves the interests of america, uncle sam will always cast its menacing shadow behind that leader. And yes, even if it means supporting a tyrant like gloria. Like it or not, that is the bitter reality.

  36. “Filipino generals should appreciate the nationalism and professionalism and above all, the courage of De Gaulle.”

Not only the generals, but also the whole soldiers which also covers the generals.

Go ahead Kim, I will watch out for your comments.

  37. Kim:”…I agree with you with the Pinoy’s “lack of love of country” syndrome.”

This is a symptom of American Imperialism Defilipinization Syndrome or Alienated Identity and Defense Syndrome.

  38. A true-to-life scenario in a banana republic:troops ousted the president after a power struggle over plans to change the constitution.

    * Presidential elections are scheduled in 2010 to elect a NEW president.

    * Incumbent president not legally allowed to run in 2010 elections.

    * Incumbent president wanted to defy the Constitutional limit by conducting referendum on charter change .

    * Critics said it was part of an illegal attempt by the incumbent president to defy the Constitution’s limit of a single four-year term for the president.

    * In the last few weeks, supporters and opponents of the president have held competing demonstrations.

  39. Ma’am Ellen and to all the bloggers here may I also participate in your discussion. I am HaydeenKoi a retired janitor not the popular cosmetology doctor. My education is limited only to high school level. I am a late bloomer in computer and a newcomer in blogging ativity.Kaya po pagpasensyahan na lang ninyo.

I find your blog madam very interesting and get plenty of ideas from intelligent blogger people here.

Ako po ay mahilig sa mga usapan about politics in the country since the late 60’s to present.

My first comment is for the “Mahonduras kaya tayo.” You know I have learned in life that there is nothing sweeter than freedom. The constitution guarantee our freedom to elect our leaders. But many of our votes do not count because the COMELEC failed in arithmetic. That’s why Glueria is in power. Sabi nila you don’t have to be a scientist to know that Gloria should not be in power. This is bad to your health. Sabihin ko sa inyo na lumala pa ang high blood pressure ko because of the Con Ass.

But the question is this. Is Glueria going to be ousted like that Manuel Zelaya. Why not we have capable military and police people. Sa madali, madali pero where is now the loyalty of these armed authorities. Many of them are already anti-people. Why they support whoever gives them money and position. A soldier should be faithful daw to the constitution not to the person. But that is baloony right? In their elementary and high school education they learned good manners and right conduct but now they do not practice it. The more they learned the more they become ignorant of the laws. Instead of calling them AFP now, puwera lang iyong mga iba diyang may integridad at mabubuting opisyales, a lot of them represent the ABP which means Armed Bandits of the Philippines. Why people perceive them that way so? Is because many of them are already corrupted by the corrupt politicians.

No kudeta for Glueria yet. But do not discount also the mounting anger of the people plus the growing number of junior officers in the army and police who are already for the truth and consequence.

  40. Enciong Enciong

    Kaibigang Kim and Ka Enchong,

Inuulit ko rito ang sinabi ninyo…

“But to be fair to those who still cling to their solemn oath of patriotism however few they may be in numbers, what I have to say does not apply to them.”

“Oftentimes, in the heat of our passion, we tend to generalize our reference to institutions just because their leaders are ‘evil’. We need to realize that there are still people in these institutions who are upright, noble and are worthy of our trust. If we need their heroic participation in our pursuit for a better Philippines, we must not antagonize them through our careless generalizations.”

Why then don’t they move? Kasi po they have so many things to consider.

Otherwise, ang mga makabayang sundalo will end up the ones incarcerated.

Sad to say this pero bakit behind bars ngayon ang mga magigiting na sundalong tumindig at lumaban para sa bayan? Sapagkat kulang sa planning. Puro tapang ang ginamit. Walang fall-back position. Mis-coordinated ang galaw and mis-calculated ang kalaban. Hindi sinunod si Sun Tzu.

Mahabang kwento and I would not want to be judgemental. Pero yan po ang realidad.

More realities. Yung unang Coup was in 1986. In short, may experience factor na sila.

Yun pong Edsa 86 took months of planning and coordination. Inspite of that, nagka-aberya pa rin dahil naamoy kaya napaaga ng kaunti. Ngayon pa kaya?

Let us not lose hope. The PMA still produces soldiers for the Filipino people… soldiers who still live by the tenets of courage, integrity, and loyalty — even up to their retirement age. Hindi po lahat nabibili at nagiging corrupt.

  41. parasabayan parasabayan

    Haydeenkoi, welcome to Ellenville!

Tama ka Enciong. We need to plan. Kaya lang may fall back position sila.

But the will of the people will always prevail in the long run! Medyo mabagal nga lang ang kilusan but it will come. Puputok din yan!

  42. parasabayan parasabayan

I know a handful of them and I am so proud of these PMAers na may paninindigan pa!

Common sense more than 9-years na tayong sukdulang ginagago at ginagawang utu-uto e nasaan yong mga pinagpipitaganan nating PMAer except Gen. Lim’s and co.?

Pag magaling at na-corrupt…

  50. Ka Enchong Ka Enchong

Our identity was corrupted. Our love for our nation was corrupted. It was replicated from one generation to the next.

It was only for a brief period in our history that we had our so-called national identity- starting off with the execution of Fathers Gomez, Burgos and Zamora and eventually succumbing to the pressures of American colonization at the turn of the last century.

More basic than the absence of a patriotic concept, I think, is the absence of the Filipino’s love for himself and his capacity to fight for his due.

He gets to be treated as a doormat in some foreign countries and he never raises his voice in protest. He meekly conditions himself to accept it as an immovable reality.

He gets to be treated as a second class citizen in his own country and he simply reacts with a shrug. He does not hold himself and his government accountable for any anomaly, political or otherwise.

OFWs are sought after for their knowledge and skills? This is generally a lie. OFWs are sought after only for their capacity to be eternally submissive while being satisfied with relatively ‘cheap’ monthly paychecks.

In contrast, those who lead our nation possess an almost delusional sense of self-importance. I would not wonder if, in the next 24 hours, Malacanang will come up with a statement condemning the events in Honduras, playing ‘chuwariwap’ to Obama’s singing. Not too long ago, Aling Gloria also issued a condemnation of North Korea’s nuclear tests and Myanmar’s crackdown on protesters- as if, her condemnation counts…

Before we enable our sense of patriotic duty, let us first love ourselves and respect our own dignity.

    Ilabas ang ‘full report’

    (Eralyn Prado/Bernard Taguinod/Rose Miranda)

    http://www.abante.com.ph/issue/june3009/news03.htm

    Anaknamputang gloria ito, oo!

Tangnamuka!

FIRST WORLD countries in twenty years. Pero ano ang ginagawa mo? Lamyerda dito, lamyerda doon?

    Sana!

Madoff got 150 yrs in prison for squandering 50 billion dollars from his investors. This amount is so small compared to the trillion dollar economy of the US. Compare this to the pandak’s billion pesos travelling spree, tongpats and what have you! She should be jailed more than three lifetimes! Unless the Philippines prosecute plundering leaders (not the same detention Erap had where he was detained in his luxury ranch), every leader we have will always loot the treasury because they know they can get away with it!

  55. Liwayway-Gawgaw Liwayway-Gawgaw

    Kasamang parasabayan,

  56. Enciong Enciong

    Kaibigang Starch,

I cry inside me as I read your response sapagkat tutoo lahat ng mga hinaing mo. Walang mangyayari sa bayan natin, walang pag-asa hanggat walang pagbabagong mangyayari.

Ngunit paano?

To the Cadet Corps, Armed Forces of the Philippines…

Either you fight it with all your might or you let it destroy your moral fiber. Those are your only options.

Coup d’etat undermines the majority rule of each nation. That said, just WHO would Pinas install as the new Prez when there is indeed a “coup d’etat”??

To me, the single most over-riding reason why this administration thrives is: “these so-called ex-generals and admirals who are just plain spineless and poodles to Gluerilla”. Their eyes bulged as big as it can be when they’re given cushy positions in her queendom, all pretexts for each to cart away the peoples’ money. Just quite a sad way of life.

Well, at least George W. Bush’s life is also cushy. A powerful ex-US Prez who is content with giving “inspirational commencement speech” to a high school graduation, mahirap din espelingin ang pagiisip. Gluerilla should one day do the same but on the “Kindergaten” level.

there is always the possibility na ma honduras din ang pinas.the good thing in honduras is that the military is united and that there was no bloodshed so far.in pinas the generals and the supreme court ay hawak ni gma. in the lower echelons however, one cannot be sure of the people who have direct contact with the soldiers. they may be divisions so that there is the possibility of bloodshed.it really does not matter for me as long as the blood is from the present occupants of the palace that had become a symbol for powersick people instead of people’s power.

Because of so much favor they get from her they do everything to protect her, they cast spell against the kalaban sa pulitika. They make those who oppose her vanish. But anything evil will come to an end. And queen Glueria is no exeption. The white dwendes on the other hand are not doing enough to bring down the queen. They can not unite because each of them have their own political ambitions. They are not of use to the people either. The military, they will only act when they know they are already sure of victory. This is the situation of the country today. Like a toilet bowl that can not be clean by ordinary cleanser, you need muriatic acid to get rid of that dirt. It was Smartmatic that conducted the referendum of Venezuela. The exercise, and the count, was considered clean by the Carter Center

    http://www.cartercenter.org/news/documents/doc1826.html

as well as other international observers.

As explained by Ms. McCoy, the machines tallied the votes on the computer. A printout was, however, provided to the voters, which they could inspect, if reflective of their votes. The printouts were deposited in ballot boxes, like regular manual ballots. The machine results could be audited by counting the printouts (they are machine readable, so there is no manual count). The machine results, presumably, should match the count of the printouts.

The Jimmy Carter center did audits, and found the results accurate, and reflective of the will of the people.

So bakit umatras ang TIM? They wanted control of the machines. The TIM are the Pinoys; sila ang may motive na mandaya. The Venezuelans could care less if a dog (or pig) won the elections. But they, I presume, would want a credible result, dahil yan ang negosyo nila; and they want long term benefits, not the short-term relief of a tongpats. Smartmatic, through Sequoia, is in at least 17 states of the US. May US elections din sa 2010, and again in 2012.

Possibleng may lagay kay Pidal, so they could get the business. So what? As long as the results are clean.

Maaaring diyan nagmula ang away; dahil ang Noypi, gustong ma-control ang bilangan. That is where the business interests diverged. The Smartmatic wanted to showcase another clean elections, so they can continue marketing. The Pinoys, wanted to conduct their unggoy kalakalan (monkey business).

BTW, does anybody remember the much ballyhooed Kalakalan 20 of Cory bright boy Oca Orbos?

In 1986, the Philippines was hailed by the whole world for the bloodless coup that ousted former President Marcos popularly known as People Power or Edsa 1.

  81. Isser Isser

    Habib, Adebrux & eddfajardo,
I beg to disagree my friends. It is still vivid in my mind that way back in 1986, Enrile, Gringon & FVR broke away from the clutches of the Marcos regime and opted to make a last stand in Camp Aguinaldo. Soon, fellow officers and civilians followed. During those tenseful moments, these three were really ready and willing to give up their lives.

When there were reports that Gen Ver gave the command to Gen Ramas of the Army to get ready to bomb Aguinaldo and Crame with their howitzers, the three heroes and officers braced themselves and were ready to die at that very moment.

When I asked Gringo for instructions before the bombing, he just said, “Hijo, stay put lang tayo. If we die, at least this will open the eyes of the Filipinos and our cause in not useless”.

When Gen Ver ordered two fighter planes from Basa airbase to bomb Camp Crame, Gringo, FVR, Enrile and the rest of the officers did not withdraw — they just waited and opted to face death.

Soon I found out that these two fighter pilots were classmates of mine from PMA and they defied Ver’s orders to bomb Camp Crame.

Why I know these things? Because I was there. I am sorry but I believe it is not fair to judge the three heroes as “ulupongs”. During those traumatic moments, everyone was willing to sacrifice ones career, family and life.

Let us not lose hope my friends. Just like during the Marcos era, we waited for 20 years until the 1986 revolution. We should be thankful to Grizzy, Chi, Cocoy, AdeBrux, Balweg, Ka Enchong, Parasabayan, Rose, LiwaywayGawgaw, Patria Adorada — they are here to stir and motivate each of us.

Just like what happened during the 1986 revolution, soon there will come a time when the situation will ask each of us to sacrifice our careers and lives. Are we all ready for that? Or we will just be fence-sitters and wait whoever wins.

– Anna

That’s true, regardless of what Isser explained. I know that because two of my uncles were also senior officers and they were with loyalist forces already in both camps Crame and Aguinaldo. You cannot even speak to any of Ramos, Enrile, and Gringo since they know the presence of their “enemies” among them. They were in one room heavily guarded and all the top RAM leaders were with them. They have no choice but to face death if Marcos gives the order. I saw the pictures and aside from the 3, the Generals and the RAM leaders, there were only 2 civilians, Roilo Golez, and Raffy Andaya, who was my HS classmate.

The place was highly-charged and shooting can commence anytime but both sides were holding back since it was not clear who among those uniformed men were friends or foes.

But what did we learn from all these power grabs?

In EDSA1, the soldiers started it, when they failed, the PEOPLE supported them.

In EDSA2, they failed to convict Erap by impeachment, the people started it, the SOLDIERS supported them.

In EDSA3, again, the people started it, but the SOLDIERS failed them.

In Oakwood and Manila Pen, the soldiers started it, but the PROPLE never came.

It’s a deadlock. Kaya ngayon hintayan na lang.

    Kaibigang Isser,

Okey, sige.

All they could tell were disappointments towards Ramos and Enrile. Pati kay Gringo.

  94. Kimchi Kimchi

Isser, coming from an ex-PMA’er like you who was at Camp Aguinaldo during the first people power initiative, I, for one, am convinced (with just a wee bit of reservations) that you are honestly telling it like it really was.

Meron lang akong tanong sa iyo, kaibigan. I understand from a past exchange that you called it quits from the active service out of disgust of the present regime. As an ex-officer of the AFP and an ex-PMA’er yourself, I am pretty sure your mindset is still of the idealistic PMA’er. Being so, how would you gauge the psyche of the present crop of junior officers relating to their corrupted mistahs?

Marami pa sana akong nai-isip na tanong that might eat up a large space of this blog, but they might undermine whatever is brewing in these active officers’ minds, if any. If you feel I am putting you on the spot, then I will understand and I would have to rest my case.

  95. Balweg Balweg

I am NOT (and I say again, NOT) nor WAS, a PMA’er. I am just curious as to what, if any, kung meron pa ring idealism itong barkada nating si Isser kahit na siya ay wala na sa serbisyo. Gusto ka rin malaman from an ex-PMA’er’s point of view what it would take for the better breed of graduates to rise up in arms against their “terminated” (in-anay) or corrupted colleagues in arms.

  97. Balweg Balweg

Fernando Ma. Guerrero – (1873-1890) When the revolution broke out, General Antonio Luna invited him to join the editorial staff of La Independencia, the organ of the revolution. Thus, he fought for the Filipino cause with his pen.

Julian Felipe – (1861-1941) Composer of the Philippine National Anthem.

General Francisco Makabulos – (1871-1922) Leader of the revolt in Tarlac.

  98. Balweg Balweg

After we gained our Independence, it looks like we lost our heroes and had villains instead. Thanks to all the vultures in our governemnt.

  101. Isser Isser

    Kaibigang Habib,
However, after several years after the revolution, that is another story.

In fact, I am really disappointed that the objectives we were fighting for were never materialized. After Marcos, mas naging corrupt pa ang gobyerno! Personally, EdsaI never achieved anything. Nanghihihanyang lang ako kasi a lot sacrificed their careers (including myself) and walang nangyari.

    Kaibigang Kimchi,
You asked me how would I gauge the psyche of the present crop of junior officers. Honestly, in my opinion, most of our junior officers are still idealistic and trust-worthy. In my opinion, the Academy, has never failed in trying its best to produce leaders. Ang problema ay nasa GOBYERNO and SOCIETY. If the government is corrupt, there are two things that could happen — a) the young officer could fight the system, end up in jail or leave the service. Or b) adapt to the corrupt government and society.

So, huwag tayong mawalan ng pag-asa. A lot of junior idealistic officers are still there willing to change our society. They are just waiting for the right leader to come and lead them. I firmly believe that the Senior Officers still have in their hearts the ideals they learned from the Academy — hintay-hintay lang tayo and bigyan natin sila ng chance. If there will be a “change” this time, I think it would be bloody. If that day happens, be ready to take sides — it is better than being a fence-sitter (“balimbing”).

  102. Kim Kim

Sabi kasi ni Mr. JM, “In like manner we need to look at our history for the illness of our nation is chronic. Ours is a pattern of lack of love by us, for our nation”. I mean tama siya sa isang banda. Ang sa akin eh ganito naman.

If ever there is this so called “lack of love” of pinoys about the Philippines, I’d rather say it may be more of “lack of pride” of being Pinoy.

Like you aptly laid it out for Mr. Fajardo, ours is a history as colorful and as heroic as the men and women who fought for our freedom. However, how many of the new generation of Pinoys today know exactly what took place in our country centuries ago ? Hindi ko nilalahat pero, I am almost sure not everybody knows our basic history as a people. Case in point, I once asked a high school student in our neighborhood who Teodora Alonso was and he said, “isa sa mga naging GF ni Pareng Joey (Rizal). WHAT ??? I mean he was almost correct.

My point is, if the Filipino is ignorant, or shall we say, oblivious of his own history, how can he even appreciate his being a Filipino ? Is this the result of our perennial colonial mentality after 400 years under the Spaniards and 50 years under the Americans (not to mention 3 years under the Japanese)?

Ang sa akin lang if we, as Filipinos, do not even know the heroic deeds and struggles for freedom our forefathers went through in our own histories past, how can we even appreciate our identities being Filipinos ? Without this conscious awareness of who we really are, how can we even look up to the high heavens and take pride in being Pinoys ?

Summing it all up, hindi ko matanto kung ang sinabi ko eh siyang dahilan ng “pagka-duwag” ni Juan o sa kaniyang attitude na “bahala na”……..que sera-sera, what will be, will be. I guess it all depends on your individual points of view.

  103. dandaw dandaw

No morals, no decency, no back bones. Itong and dapat pag ingatan sa buhay.

Our history, even in its brightest moments, had its share of less heroic, even treacherous, characters.

One of the most glaring controversies in our history was the rivalry between Andres Bonifacio and Emilio Aguinaldo leading to the mysterious death of Bonifacio and the rape of his widow, Aling Oriang, by one of Aguinaldo’s men.

Lesser known, but equally controversial, was Antonio Luna’s squealing of the erstwhile secret society, Katipunan, to then Gov. Gen. Ramon Blanco, implicating Dr. Jose Rizal in the process. Luna disclosed that Katipunan, was actually La Liga Filipina, which was founded by Dr. Rizal. Luna’s testimony was one of the nails that sealed Rizal’s conviction and eventual execution.

Diego Silang was assassinated by a Spanish mestizo named Miguel Vicos. What gave Vicos a clear shot was Silang’s trusted aide, Pedro Becbec, who agreed to act as Vicos’ accomplice by engaging Silang in a conversation while Vicos aimed his gun.

The Macabebes were mostly maligned, especially in this blog, for being instrumental in Aguinaldo’s capture. I am not saying these Macabebe scouts are faultless- but what can be expected from mere mercenaries? The biggest traitor in this episode was an Ilocano courier, Cecilio Segismundo. Segismundo, instead of delivering Aguinaldo’s documents to Gen. Urbano Lacuna, surrendered them to the Americans. These documents turned out to contain a request for troop reinforcements and a map leading to Aguinaldo’s camp grounds in Palanan, Isabela.

Pedro Alejandro Paterno, who claimed having descended from pre-Hispanic nobility proclaiming himself Prince of Luzon while he was in Madrid, brokered the Pact of Biak-na-Bato. He befriended Aguinaldo, eventually convincing him to accept a ceasefire and exile in Hongkong in exchange for money. For his ‘efforts’ he demanded that Spain officially grant him either a Prince or a Duke title. He also sent the Spanish government a bill for his services. When Filipinos threatened Spain anew in 1898, he issued a manifesto of collaboration asking Filipinos to support the Spanish government.

Why am I citing all these?

Even in our quest for idealism, we need to accept that there are certain inescapable realities. But, these should not stop us from dreaming, asserting and struggling for a better Philippines.

Again, more basic than patriotism and national pride, we must learn to love ourselves, treasure our personal dignity and seek to understand our identity as a nation.

  106. parasabayan parasabayan

I love reading the history of our country so I read Jose Miguel’s and Ka Enchong’s and all the other historians’ account of who were our real heroes and the traitors. I even watch the “Explainer” regularly because it bridges the old and the new Philippines.

I am one of those who took for granted reading our rich heritage. I am just catching up now. But I love my country of origin and I would do everything I can to make sure that the next generation will have a better Philippines!

Meron ba? Yung heroes in the real sense of the word – nagpakamatay para sa bayan. Mabibilang lang yata sa daliri.

  108. Funny but I just got a note from my Communist friends in the USA asking for signatures for a petition to submit to Obama re comeback of Zelayo, whom they say should be returned to his position.

Now, I wonder if Obama will support Zelayo knowing that he is a leftist wanting to stay in power for a longer period of time than what the Honduran Constitution allows.

  109. I share your frustration, Eddfajardo.

Naging bayani iyan dahil lang kay Macapagal who wanted an absolution for his ancestor, the original dugong aso.

Agree with Rose. Can’t remember History as articulated above in our high school nor in college as part of the curriculum. Unless na absent ako everytime these kinds of discussions were argued and debated. What I do remember were JR’s Noli mi Tanga-re and El Fili-Bust-erismo, kasama na rin si Lapulapu at Magellan.

With regards to the notion that “duwag ang mga noypis”, it never dawn on me that there are such genre of nationality who are called cowards or brave. This thinking borders idiocy at best.

During the big earthquake of July 1990, all of those “Thugs” and “Matons” in Baguio got down to their knees to pray since to them, it was the end of the world. Ngayon, they’re brave one more time preying on the helpless.

  116. habib habib

    Kasamang Isser,

1987. August coup. Ang battalion namin ang unang ni-recall sa Headquarters, Philippine Army, purposely to augment troops to repel Gringo’s forces. But our inner unspoken purpose is to join him due to disappointment over Cory’s administration dahil sa pagmamalabis ng Kamag-anak, Incorporated.

We were then under the command of the then Major Jovito Palparan, Jr.

In 1989, the unit joined the last coup attempt of Gringo (Palparan was sent to schooling to take up Command and General Staff Course) when it was placed under then Major Alfredo Oliveros, PMA Class ’71, a RAM member.

  117. Isser Isser

    Kaibigan Habib,

Tama Ka. Mga idolo ko rin sila noon 1986, but they changed when they got drowned with wealth and power.

Si FVR, kunwari malinis pero during his term as President, nawala yoon 7 BILLION pesos na gagamitin para sa modernization ng AFP. Corrupt siya, pero “malinis” magtrabaho. hehehe. Hanggang ngayon, there is no trail to the missing 7 BILLION pesos.

With his charisma, maraming junior officers ang sumunod sa kaniya and sacrificed their careers (isa na ako doon sa mga naloko). Yoon pala — parang wolf disguised as a sheep. He got transformed into a “Yes-Man”.

  118. Kalikasan, welcome.

House rules lang.Huwag natin i=capitalize ang ating comments. Hindi maganda basahin.

Inayos ko ang iyong comment. Thanks.

  119. To Kim, parasabayan, and all the brothers/sisters in this site under one mother- Ellen!:

We are nearing the identification of our problem. Einstein said something like, ‘once the problem is identified, the solution is a matter of routine.’ A good physician looks at history of the patient and not just the symptom in diagnosing a serious ailment. We are nearing because we are now turning our focus on history. Thanks to the topic posted by our blogsite mother- Ellen! It is comparing Honduras with our national situation. This would naturally stimulate us to touch on comparing our selves with other nations as well as re-examining ourselves as a nation.

Yes, pride of nation drove France, Israel, Germany, Japan and Vietnam to be one of the most respected natons in the world today. We also have our sources of pride but unfortunately were supressed by the invading Americans who until this very moment is still invading us.(http://jmgpatria.blogspot.com/2009/06/american-invasion-continues_7055.html)

As soon as I have completed and digested my researches from different sources on our heroes like Gen Antonio Luna, Gen Lukban and others who would really make us proud to be Filipinos, I will share them to you. This takes so much time. Meanwhile I have some articles from other authors or researchers which could be a source of our identity and pride as a nation. I share them with you thru http://jmgpatria.blogspot.com/2009/06/alas-filipinas-la-constitucion-politica.html and http://jmgpatria.blogspot.com/2009/06/filipino-biz-malolos-constitution_20.html.

After we have realized our source of identity and pride, we can have a basis for our common standard of what should be a good Filipino nation. We can have an organic and historical basis for our national vision. Once we know the what should be, we will know the problem. Knowing the problem will lead us to the basic cause of the problem. I would like to share it with you thru http://jmgpatria.blogspot.com/2009/06/developmental-basis.html.

May all of us contribute and unite to finding the problem and the solution. May all of us disseminate it.

Then, we can all finally come back to our own home!

May I add my two-cent’s worth to what Kim said yesterday at 3:11 AM. He (or is it a she?) said, “Ang sa akin lang, if we, as Filipinos, do not even know the heroic deeds and struggles for freedom our forefathers went through in our own histories past, how can we even appreciate our identities being Filipinos ? Without this conscious awareness of who we really are, how can we even look up to the high heavens and take pride in being Pinoys ?”

Sa palagay ko, personal pride or a sense of national pride is by itself the rallying boost to measure whether a person is a coward or not in the light of what is now happening to the Philippines. But then again, there is still the question of “timidity” which most pinoys unwittingly display most of the time. These are the people who know they are right but won’t move unless others will. And even if the others had already moved, some of these people still won’t.

If it is plain and simple timidity that stops the pinoy from doing waht is right, then that is the end of it. Wala na talaga. One can be teeming in pride, love of country, and lofty ideals but may be seriously lacking in confidence to go all the way. Duwag ba ito ? I don’t think so. Torpe ? Baka pa. Bakit ? Because he doesn’t know the dsifference.

On the other hand, if one is a coward maski na anong baligtad ang gawin natin, o maski na takutin nating tu-tuliin siya ulit sa pangalawang beses, he would perhaps choose the second opition than be persuaded to go out and smash the balls of his enemy. Is this the Pinoy we are talking about ? Naaaah. No way, Jose. So ano ang conclusion ?? HIndi tayo mga duwag. Sigurista lang marahil. Pero sobrang sigurista kung baga.

Still some others fall under the hypnotic spell of “analysis paralysis”. Meaning, people who over-analyze the situation to the point that when they thibk they finally come up with the solution, the fire had already been extinguished and another fire is just kindling and is sadly entirely different from the first. And then the never-ending analysis starts anew. Is this the Pinoy ? Maari. Siuguro. Malamang. Ah ewan !

Which brings me to the topic Kim raised. I believe it is indeed this pride in being Filipino that will automatically stir up one’s defenses when provoked. Because one has to protect this pride, coward or not, one will defend it to the hilt. Without which, tyrants will come and go and the pinoy will be resigned to merely scartching his balls while suffering in utter silence.
