I just came from the very exciting press con of House Speaker Jose de Venecia at Dusit Hotel where they tried to present their face-saving alternative: Constitutional Convention.
Instead, activist Renato Constantino,Jr. slammed to their faces.
RC, in an all black attire, stole the show when after JDV read his prepared statement, he stood up and told the congressmen to their faces:
“I would like to say to you all (that) I am completely appalled by your collective gall. You’re totally bereft of principle that’s why you’re without shame,” .
The congressmen were shocked . J.J. Romualdo of Camiguin said, “Itapon yan.” I asked him, that’s you statement? He just looked at me.
I didn’t hear what Journal reporter Tita Valderama heared him say which was , “sige, bugbugin nyo yan sa labas.”
Later, as I was taking Romualdo’s picture, he said to me, “I said, ‘Itapon’.Bakit hindi na ba kami pwede magdefend ng sarili namin? Binabastos na kami. Sige, i-quote mo ako. ”
I told him, “Rest assured I will quote you because that’s my job.”
As RC was being led out, Vic Agustin, columnist of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, in a white shirt, threw him a glass of water. When I talked to Agustin later, he said he didn’t want to say anything anymore and that he became “emotional.”
As he was being escorted out of the room, RC kept on shouting, “They are a bunch of serial rapists.”
Carmen Pedrosa, columnist of the Philippine Star, was shouting at RC, “Shut up, shut up.”

And talking about postponement, I am really amazed with the way the ASEAN summit is being handled by Ambassador marciano Paynor, He just like his boss thought all the while that they know everything, why postpone the summit,why not just transfer the venue, again STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES!!!!! According to paynor, its because of the typhoon, my god if there is typhoon just transfer the venue, it just show that he has no alternative plan for the summit. According to report, he wanted the decision making for the summit to be centralized to him, meaning he is the all knowing SOB!!!!!

I call on our countrymen to emulate RC’s conduct and to be free and unafraid in voicing out our opinion, specially on matters of public interest. This is guaranteed by our very own constitution, and is not unlawful at all. In fact, this is the norm in other free countries.

i read once somewhere that journalists cannot do their jobs if they donot know in first hand the people with power and influence. it is when they befriend them that problems begin. the most serious problem that threatens journalism is giving the powerful a lot of latitude.
