I wouldn’t be surprised if at an opportune time, those scalawags who are identified with Gloria would abandon her. Why? She was the first to do that to them, didn’t she? She dropped them like a hot potato when strong reactions against cha-cha intesified.

Ms. Ellen Tordesillas ng Abante at Malaya, Hello po!

I’m Franky, a gay beautician, isang x-men from Singapore, but noyping noypi.

Nagtatalunan ba kamo Ms. Ellen Tor?

Read ko mga entries d2, dehins yata uubra educational attainment ko todits from Samson Tech, graduate of cosmetology, major in sweeping the floor.

Walang kapuso at kapamilya.

  4. Ellen, All EMandirigma:

With prayers and restored faith in God, country and countrymen, I do not think that the Great Switik will be able to stay there at the palace by the murky river any longer. God willing, we will see a bright tomorrow!

Ocayvalle may still have his dream! Advance Merry Christmas to all indeed although Christmas in the USA looks bleak this year!

Finally the rats are jumping off the ship eh! It’s just a matter of being patient, all in due time, bogus Gloria will have her day. I just hope that she doesn’t escape the country, she must pay for all the crimes against the people of the Philippines. Kicking her out of Malacanang is not good enough, bogus Gloria must serve prison term, it’s a must if the Philippines to regain its credibility worldwide among civilized nation. Undoubtedly, bogus Gloria has ruined the country, she took away the sovereign rights of the people. She has corrupted and destroyed the govt especially those people around her, including her entire family of thieves. Bogus Gloria lied to the people, cheated the people of their rights and stole from the people’s treasury as if her own private accounts. Bogus Gloria must pay!

sabi ni dra. loi, “gloria needs character change, not charter change”.

tama nga naman. pero kulang pa rin. what gloria mukhang bato needs is a general overhaul of inner herself. that is, if she still considers herself a dignified person (does she still has dignity?).

one can recount since her first day of grabbed presidency how she lied, cheated, fooled, robbed and betrayed the trust of the people. everyone will always remember how she manipulated every report presented to the public as everytime she addresses the nation, it is her promise of good governance, poverty alleviation, job creation, peace and order and so many ek ek and blah blah that highlight each “declamation”. she always talks about unity but she is the one who causes division among the people. she bribes those she thinks can forward her interest and drops whom she sees does not fit her trust (greed).

but, can she still change her ways for good?

Sya nawa.

It’s time!!!GMA must step down lest she wants to be ousted by the people. GMA lost the moral authority to run this country a long time ago when “hello garci” tape was discovered. After stealing the votes and rigging the elections, she attempts to “secure” herself and tried hard not to be ousted by another people power. Unfortunately for her, she has been in that “quicksand” and the more she attempts to move to save herself, the more she sinks down the bottom!!!Now that her opportunist allies are starting to abandon ship, it will not take a week for us to curve our country’s destiny right in our very hands.

  22. Tiago Tiago

    Mrivera;
Lost cause na yan si Gloria. Wala ng pag-asa. When she first join politics, i felt that in her midst is a charcter only she can decipher. Very few noticed that between my circle of friends and ka-huntahan. What a change when suddenly the once meek and naive daughter of D. macapagal became the country’s most hated president. It’s what inside that corrupts all. She’s rotten in and out.

    Franknagay;
Quite a “man” really to admit he’s gay. Hindi krimen ang maging gay so why worry. Ingat lang sa mga mapagsamantala. You know what i mean.

gma actually has many characters as psycopaths are, problem is that the bad is always the one that comes out of the surface.when a ship sinks normally the captain goes with it but it seems gma always try to jump ship like her chacha.hope npongco has what we call in tagalog dilang anghel such that when i wake up tommorrow, the evil has gone.

Just came back from work, so am also eager to know what’s the latest. Monday is too early to know things, another day or so will perhaps show a clearer trend of a sinking ship. But since the lady captain seemed to have jumped ship before her lapdogs did, it’s just a matter of time for those despicable creatures. Funny, the captain might be thinking that she was safe in the shark-infested water.

Wish GMA and those despicable pork lovers led by Joe wouldn’t last until X’mas. With them gone, it will be the sweetest holiday for Filipinos.

  33. Goldenlion, i just came from the rally. Nagsisimula pa lang ang misa. I had to leave because I hve to do my column. Our office is in Port Area, not far away from Luneta.

Maraming tao. Cory Aquino was there. I saw Frank Drilon, Serge Osmena, Jun magsaysay. Ang congressman I saw Erin Tanada, Neric Acosta. From civil society there was Dinky Soliman, Leah Navarro, Josie Lichauco, Bettina Legarda, Marilou Magsaysay, Precy Psinakis, daughter of the alte Geny Lopez of ABS-CBN.

Iba’t-ibang grupo nandoon. Erap’s group were there.

The El Shaddai members were beginning to arrive when I left.I’ll monitor on TV later.

  34. mike_dlc mike_dlc

I’ve been monitoring the AM band for updates regarding the rally, unfortunately, all I’ve been getting are piecemeal infos from the field. Not much coverage. Hmmmm… for a big event such as this? I wonder why?

  35. cocoy cocoy

Thanks Ellen for giving me an update here in California.I’ll stay awake to monitor this event and keep this blog open.I’m glad my guy kuya Jun Magsaysay is there,

  36. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

What’s happening at the Luneta? Nothing. Boring. Prayer rally lang and a Mass? No wonder the media has not been covering it. What’s there to cover?

Looks like the Despicable One again outsmarted the organizers and succeeded in taking the wind out of the sails of an enraged public. She lives another day…to scheme some more.

  37. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

But I guess the message has been sent and received clearly the past week. That’s why the Con Woman and her Con Men backpedalled in their railroading activities.

And so we too live to continue the watch and fight another day?

  38. mike_dlc mike_dlc

Like I said in my other post (on another thread), the CBCP is too soft when confronting significant issues such as the cha-cha. Masyadong mahinhin and mga obispo natin ngayon, strong words are not enough. I miss the days when the late Cardinal Sin was still at the helm of things then, although I may not share the same political views with him, at least the late cardinal has balls made of steel. Not like the present crop which has balls…. uuuhhh….made of gummy bears?

  39. Anna:

I just read your comment in Tribune. You said it nicely what everyone of us bloggers, who do not want to see a minute more of the Great Switik at the palace by the murky river, feel and want to say. Thanks.

I spent the whole day fasting and going to our temple. Hopefully, it will be a bright tomorrow for all Filipinos regardless of whether or not the rally today can make the
    Great Switik resign or not.

My sister here says that the only way to remove the Great Switik and her greedy lackeys plus a bully of a hubby is to pull her by the hair out of Malacanang! Otherwise, baka daw abutin ng pagputi ng uwak!

Funny how Villar would even want to include the ChaCha in the May election next year when the concentration should be on how to boot out the pigs who have patronized the Great Switik and her erroneous policies from the Philippine Tongress to make it a real decent Congress!!!

PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA! NO MORE CHACHA, NOT EVEN A PLEBESCITE ON IT! I was going to say “stupid” but I promised I won’t say anymore profanity. Chi has suggested that I just westernize the spelling of the profanities in Tagalog!

  40. Chi,

I just a call from my contact in Tokyo. El Shaddai’s members there are solid against ChaCha. Don’t know about the INC. Mike Velarde as per above report by Ellen was in the rally.

I hope this rally is the light at the end of the tunnel! PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA!

  41. kitamokitako kitamokitako

Amang Magsaysay, nakakainis, parating pagkakaisa ang sinasabi niya, walang man lamang nagsalita against the present regime, so far.

  42. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

Luneta ralistas should march to Malacanang after the mass. Ituloy ang laban.

  43. The theme apparently of the prayer rally called for by the CBC
P is repentance. Unfortunately, the Great Switik is beyond repentance for she is possessed! Yup, she is possessed by the devil. Otherwise, why should she call her PIG “legion” and have leaders of the said group quote verbatim the devil in the Bible who introduced themselves as “Legion” and that they were many!

I wonder if members of the said PIG realized that they were calling themselves as Satan’s legion who were exorcised by the Savior from out of the body of someone possessed, and in their desperation entered the bodies of a herd of pigs, jumped into the sea and drowned. When I read that quote by a PIG member, I shuddered as a matter of fact! It was more a case of no one being saved by ignorance. “They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.(Titus 1:16)

  44. Mrivera Mrivera

we-wil-never-learn can also give a vivid picture of the rally. puwede siguro, ano? tutal ‘andun naman siya.

  45. Mahirap mamisa ng itlog bago maging sisiw. It is easier said than done, but hopefully this “pagkakaisa” thing is the beginning of the end of the Great Switik and her Rasputins!
    PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA!

  46. If the 6pm ANC news is anything to go by, they covered the Prayer Rally in five minutes. According to Black & White the crowd was an estimated 150,000.
It seems not enough people are prepared to attend the Prayer Rally and are content with the unabated KILLINGS, ABDUCTIONS, STEALING, CORRUPTION etc etc. If the people and church members allow this sort of behaviour and not prepared to put warm bodies on the streets, the country deserves this whore of a leader, don’t they!

  47. Mrivera Mrivera

    we-will-never-learn,

the reason why not much came to attend the prayer rally were the check points set up by the ASCALDERON and ASOPERON that prevented them from joining. there was an early report that all entry points to manila were sealed by the dogs of gloria mukhang batong ostrich.

  48. Mrivera Mrivera

    this is it, from tribune:

PNP sets up checkpoints to block out of towners

    12/17/2006

Malacañang’s efforts to prevent today’s rally organized by the Catholic bishops from getting bigger than expected have extended to setting up checkpoints in all strategic locations all over Metro Manila, including the north and south Luzon expressways.

Checkpoints set up by the police and military in the north and south Luzon expressways are generally the ploys used by the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in effectively preventing demonstrators from nearby provinces travelling in buses from entering Metro Manila and joining the rallies.

But PNP Spokesman chief Supt. Samuel Pagdilao, while admitting that checkpoints are being set up in all these areas, denied that this is being done to prevent the provincial demonstrators from joining the scheduled massive rally in Manila.

The church-led rally is expected to be huge as several charismatic groups, such as the El Shaddai led by Bro. Mike Velarde and the Jesus is Lord Movement (JIL) led by Bro. Eddie Villanueva, are slated to bring in their flock to attend today’s anti-Charter change prayer-rally.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), the lead organizer, is also likely to tap Catholic school students to attend the rally.

Panic has reportedly gripped Malacañang and its security forces over this development, so much so that the PNP has announced that a 16,000 strong force is to be deployed to man the peace and security at the rally site. This number does not include the number of soldiers from the AFP who are also slated to be deployed all over Malacañang, which has been declared a no-rally zone.

Palace security aides have again recommended the total block-off for Malacañang today, returning to its under siege image of a container yard, as ship containers will be set up to serve as blockages to all roads leading to Malacañang.

PNP chief Director General Oscar Calderon announced yesterday that Task Force Manila Shield has been reactivated in connection with the prayer rally at the Rizal Park in Manila today.

Calderon also confirmed that some 16,000 police officers are deployed at the Rizal Park, but clarified that the deployment of Task Force Manila shield is not limited to the venue of the prayer rally but elsewhere in the metropolis.

The PNP is coordinating with the AFP which has been on red alert status in anticipation of the event.

Police spokesman Pagdilao explained that the checkpoints have been set up in strategic locations because “we are strengthening our security measures, especially our checkpoints and we have to double up to ensure that no explosive materials or firearms are being brought in.”

Pagdilao said the PNP has tightened security after receiving reports that insurgents will infiltrate the prayer rally.

Just the other day, however, the PNP disclaimed reports of terror attacks and the infiltration of insurgents and communists, saying it had no such intelligence reports on this.

This was claimed earlier by National Security Adviser, Norberto Gonzales Friday, who insisted that “credible” intelligence reports of communist provocateurs will infiltrate the rally and create chaos and confusion.

AFP chief Gen. Hermogenes Esperon, Jr., has also been claiming, for at least three days running, that “credible” terrorist attacks will be launched by Islamic and communists groups to sow mayhem in the rally, but yesterday suddenly denied that such terrorists groups are planning to sow terror and take advantage of the prayer rally, even as he admitted that the military is monitoring an unnamed group out to sow mayhem.

Pagdilao said vigil organizers have asked the PNP to assist their own marshals in seizing political paraphernalia and preventing actors and politicians from delivering political speeches.

Esperon also Friday ordered the National Capital Region (NRC) Command to place its units on red alert staring at 5 p.m.

Some 700 anti-riot soldiers from the NCR Command will be put on standby at the AFP headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.

AFP said the anti-riot units are ready to be deployed to Rizal Park and other places in Metro Manila to augment the police.

At least 500,000 people are expected to join the inter-faith rally, to be led by Jaro Archbishop Angel Lagdameo, president of the CBCP.

Meanwhile Secretary General Renato Reyes of Bayan Muna yesterday condemned the impositions of the PNP in connection on the prayer rally today at the Luneta.

Reyes in his statement scored the police and called on them and other security forces to stop scaring the people and dictating on them on how they should conduct themselves during the rally.

“This is people’s action”, he said.

It can be recalled that NCRPO chief Director Reynaldo Varilla earlier banned politicians and movie personalities from coming up on stage during the vigil.

Streamers and banners were also prohibited from the ground.

“There will be no political speeches and no movie personalities onstage. If they (movie stars and politicos) will insist and things get messy, we will do our thing and arrest them as per request of the organizers,” Varilla said.

But Varilla explained that politicians and movie personalities were not banned from joining the protest rallies as long as they don’t violate the rules, which to the PNP includes orders not to issue anti-government statements.

Bayan members will assemble at 10 a.m. today at the Liwasang Bonifacio where they will hold a program before proceeding to the park to converge with other activist and religious groups for the thanksgiving rally.

Reyes said they expect a huge and colorful march today going to Luneta as it will be a show of national solidarity for various issues that have plagued the country under the Arroyo government.

“It will be a perfect way to end the year. Today’s massive action should give hope to this country”, Reyes said.

Detained congressman Crispin Beltran, lashing out at NSA Gonzales said: “The only violence that could happen tomorrow can only come from the AFP and the mercenary groups it works with. The Macapagal-Arroyo ad-ministration is the one with a deadly allergy to streets protests and mass gatherings, especially to one that has the potential to develop into a political uprising directed against it,” he said.

The Lakas Christian Muslim Democrats, for its part, lauded the decision of the rally organizers to ban politicians and actors from speaking before the rallyists.

Bukidnon Rep. Juan Miguel Zubiri, in an apparent admission that Malacañang is “very apprehensive” of the mass action today, said it will ensure that the rally will not turn into a political activity.

An official of the Bayan Muna said that they are bringing in 12 thousand activists to the prayer rally which will be participated in by various religious and political persuasions including the Iglesia ni Kristo, the Jesus is Lord Movement, Bagong Alyansang Makabayan, United Opposition and Anakpawis among others.

A source from the JIL, however, said the group will not fully support the prayer rally because of the impositions made by the organizers.

The source said only JIL members in Metro Manila will be joining the rally.

Despite the CBCP saying that the rally will be peaceful and a “thanksgiving mass” held for the Congress’ retreat from Charter change done through “a miracle of grace,” the AFP chief expressed hope that the prayer rally today in Luneta would be peaceful following claims that the military agents are hot on the trail of a certain group that who has the capability of sabotaging the event.

Esperon made this disclosure shortly after his arrival from his Cebu trip yesterday where he visited Central Visayas-based troops.

“We are trailing a group that may create trouble, but I can’t discuss the details with you (reporters). It’s highly operational,” he said.

He warned that a simple commotion at the height of the rally might trigger a stampede and when this happens, he said people are likely to get hurt. Gina Peralta-Elorde, Ben Gines Jr., Gerry Baldo and AFP

  49. FYI WWNL, there are many out-of-towners held outside of Manila because of a directive issued to stop them from coming into the city and joining the rally at Luneta. Inquirer even reported a lower figure as a matter of fact.

Please stop belittling the efforts of even a few as you think of voicing out the sentiments of more than a million Filipinos against the Great Switik as the surveys reveal.

To the brave ones who have dared the Great Switik and her lackeys, I say “MABUHAY KAYONG LAHAT!” No need to listen to the jaundiced cowards. Basta arya, tira hanggang matanggal si Great Switik! Ang galing ng propaganda talaga ng ungas!

As my cousin says, “ang galing maglaro!” Ikaw na ang maging dugong aso! Pwe!

BTW, we call on all supporters of Ka Bel in Japan to come to the launching of “Free Crispin Beltran Movement in Japan” on Jan. 7. A Japanese protestant pastor and scholar is spearheading the movement as a matter of fact. Send me an email through Ellen if you are attending.

    PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA!

The majority of the OFWs in Japan for instance are against the Great Switik! They may not be there at the the rally, but they are praying, too, that the Great Switik be removed fast, pronto!

Medyo wala epek yung rally kasi andaming restrictions.

Kakainis. Sana hindi itinuloy ang rally at titingnan natin ano ang reaction ng the Great Switik.

Masyadong malambot itong rally na ito. Sana dapat dito people power na. Rally plus troop movements. Yun ang da best.

anna, got through your piece in tribune. nicely said. mabuhay ka!!!

Hi, Ms. Ellen! I saw you earlier at the rally. I wanted to approach you, but I was medyo shy…at any rate, I was pretty happy with the turn out in the rally. Although it wasn’t half a million, but the 150,000 or so who were gathered was definitely not the hakot crowd. It was a good cross section. I even saw Teddy Boy Locsin, but he was on his way out. One of the Senators whispered to me that he was probably “boohed”. One thing for sure, the quality of this rally was good! Gloria should, as Archbishop Lagdameo said, do a character change ! He he he. We will all know it’s too late for that.

  56. Mrivera Mrivera

just be vigilant na lang! anyway, a peaceful holiday to one and all! wala dito n’yan sa saudi arabia! (lungkot)

  57. One way is to copy Mike Arroyo’s plan revealed in his interview in the March 5, 2001 issue of Philippine Graphic. Whats good for the goose is good for the gander.
Their supporters to bring down Erap were waiting for a text message for the supporters to go to ESDA immediately they received the text ESDA ESDA. His plan was not published in advance, no prayer rally, no big preparation by the AFP & PNP to stop it, complete secretcy.
If it worked for Mike Arroyo then, it will work again. Maybe its time to play them at their own game.

  58. Lokal Vocal:

Huwag ang mainip. It is just the beginning of the end. Ganyan din nag-umpisa ang lahat ng EDSA. At least, this time, kitang-kita, pure Filipino initiative.

Time for the Filipinos to think on their own and for their own sakes!

  59. I am for keeping the prayer rally as sacred as possible.

I am for the religious confining their activities within the walls of their churches. And then, let them be pricked by their conscience para paalisin ang switik.

God willing, mapapaalis din si Switik! Mark my word! Sabi nga, subukang kunin sa santong dasalan. Saka na ang santong paspasan!!! Malay ninyo, biglang maatake si Switik at ang matakaw na asawa niya, or mabulunan ng kinakain nilang masasarap na lechon, etc. paid with taxpayers’ money! This, I think is the purpose of the prayer rally at Luneta.

Hopefully, this rally is the beginning of the end! Next niya ang rally led by Binay, who is the next target of the Great Switik!

  60. ystakei:

The prayer rally at Luneta will remind Gloria and her dogs that Filipinos are not on the deep sleep. I didnt join the rally today, coz i still have to go for work even on sunday in order to have a decent noche buena this Christmas eve for my family. Most of my friends and office mates are willing to go out from work if the rally organizer decided to press for the resignation of gloria, dahil for us it is the main issue and the main cause of this cha-cha bruhahhaha…illegitimacy…. after analyzing the events in our country since gloria rose to malacanang, i realized that its hard to move on with her in the palace… as ordinary citizen sumasakit ang loob naming until now shes still there in the palace na dapat hindi naman sa kanya….when the CBCB announced the plan to have a prayer rally after the railroading of the CON ASS in the HOuse, naitanong ko sa sarili ko at sa mga kasamahan ko na bakit ngayon lang sila pomosition..tinatamaan na rin ba sila? naalala ko tuloy na bumaba ang tingin ko sa CBCP mismo nong merong umaming tumanggap ng pera galing sa malacanang prior to the issuance of statement during impeachment 2. i cant forget it.. nawala ang respeto ko sa maraming mga bishop… ngayon napakalambot pa ng stand nila kay gloria dahil these evil people in the house and malacanang dont need prayers, they have to be punished.. kawawa naman kaming mga tax payer kung hindi sila masisingil, tingnan mo naman, constitution ang binababoy nila…its a big reason to revolt….. by all means we have to move to eliminate these rascals in the government, we dont deserve this kind of officials, self-serving, most of them.

DAPAT MAWALA NA SI GLORIA AT ANY MEANS, i suggest that CBCP , El shadai should issue a clear stand if they are willing to live with gloria as fake president or have her oust. Kung hindi sila manawagan na patalsikin si gloria it means they are giving her more chance to rape our constitution, institutions, to corrupt our military and local officianls, especially if shes still there the killing will continue…Habang nandyan si 4/8 (her height), we cant move on.. we will still demand for justice (fertilizer scam, politacal killings, election fraud, etc.), hindi kami matatahimik until she vanish. The government exist to serve the people, the goverment cant exist without the people, so the paramount law should be— the peoPle should not be hurt, put to hungry, exploit, oppressed and KILL..if all of these things are done by the government, the people has the right to defend itself, it has the right to LIVE….. FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT TO LIVE WITH GOVERNMENT RUN BY IDEALS OF THE PEOPLE…. ..

  69. Tiago Tiago

Nagi-imagine ako while i read comments here. Was it that bad? Had the Filipino people lost the will to fight tyranny, corruption, violence, immorality and everything in between. This is not a good sign. Maybe wwnl is right. Maybe the Filipino people deserve Gloria. This is unthinkable…

I was a veteran of many a battle when i was still a student in the Philippines, and Marcos reigns supreme. It hurts sometimes to contemplate that perhaps somewhere along the line, we might have done worse than helping the Philippines to her knees. Looking at where we are heading and the complacency, man, this is disgusting.

  72. Re Tiago’s “Maybe the Filipino people deserve Gloria.”

Honestly, I think there is a legitimate reason: the PNP, AFP, Gloria’s private militia have prevented the out of town rallyists who wanted to join the prayer rally from crossing the multitude of checkpoints leading to Manila, hence were effectively turned back.

The other reason, but this is purely speculation is that the holiday season is getting the better of the moral courage of the Filipinos, either that or most of the Filipino middle class who should lead the way towards moral change are so fattened up that they really couldn’t care less, otherwise known as the APATHETIC MIDDLE AND UPPER MIDDLE CLASS of Pinoys.

A revolution can only be effective in the real sense of the word when all segments of society are involved. The lowest class of a society, as history have proven, has really never led a revolution. This is the sad reality. Only those with the education, the intellectual grasp, the means, financial and otherwise, can effect change, that change can come through various ways, one of which is revolution.

  75. Toney Cuevas Toney Cuevas

It appeared the prayer rally leave up to its expectation, nothing but a prayer rally as anticipated. Of course, many of us want more than just a prayer rally, however it was designed to do just that, so we can’t expect more or less. We need to understand that the CBCP and others head of their congregation represent but the religious worshippers outside the house of the lord in Luneta a gigantic open park that can hold more than just the normal religious rites. Once again, bogus Gloria outsmarted the people. You gotta give bogus Gloria some credit, she got her stuffs together. Yet, the people, leaderless, unresources, helplessly trying their darndest to take their country back from the corrupt officials headed by the worst fake dwarf leader of the country, once again came up short of expectation. Well, at least, prayer rally was a good subject just to remind us of what become of the country under the incompetent non-leadership of the biggest thief the country has ever known.

For generalized interest, and as a reminder, the country is at war with bogus Gloria. To battle with bogus Gloria and her dogs one’s must be prepared with all the ammunition available, and must be willing to pay the consequences, it need be. I still think the only way to rid of bogus Gloria for good are the voices of One Million Warm Bodies at the gates of Malacanang, and less than that is not going to work.

Again, people must be smarter than bogus Gloria!

  76. Thanks, Chi.

Make sure you’re well covered and have cold camping kit. Have fun in the boondocks!

  77. Re “Most of my friends and office mates are willing to go out from work if the rally organizer decided to press for the resignation of gloria, dahil for us it is the main issue and the main cause of this cha-cha bruhahhaha…illegitimacy…. ”

Frankly, that’s how it should be.

Our religious blocs in the country can and will never see it that way, unfortunately.

They’ve always seemed to be at odds with what is reasonable and what is not, either they do it for the wrong reason or don’t do it for the right reason. Go figure.

  78. iraya iraya

I was at Isetann Recto this pm. The place was really crowded. People busy shopping. Even the tiangge along avenida is bursting with people. I talked to a couple of strangers. They knew nothing about the rally.

A rally overhyped in blogs specially among anti GMA and over reaction from Malacanang. The opposition is back to square one. It’s blame game time. The CBCP is too soft. The rallyist from the province were blocked. The warm bodies were way below of what the rabid anti GMA people would have wanted and expected.

Yes, the people were disgusted with what the congressmen did. But what these congressmen did is not enough to agitate or move the people. Yes, majority of our people are not happy with GMA in malacanang but this discontent is not enough to mobilize the people.

The problem with the middle class is that they don’t know how to capture the imagination of the masa. Yes, the middle class should lead the way. But the middle class should always consider how the masa will react with the call or advocacy or demand or whatever. Without truly getting the masses be part of the change, nothing will really change. After two EDSAs, both lead by the middle class, not much has changed.

  79. Chabeli Chabeli

Reading some of your comments about the rally, I feel down..is there any other way to throw this woman out?

  80. Toney Cuevas Toney Cuevas

One thing we’ve learned with all these mistakes, don’t be dependant on the military and religious congregation to do what must be done in getting rid of illegitimate government of bogus Gloria.

    Anna;
Read your letter in the tribune. Reflection of us all here. Very surgical and true. Thanks for sharing.

I’ve got to admit, you guys have the patience. i sure don’t have it, that’s why i’m no artist. I tend to view the situation right now as a drawback. A “turnback”, so to speak in engineer’s term that has to be addressed or otherwise it will come back again and haunt the next projects. You know what i mean…

  82. That Gloria is hated by majority of the Filipinos is proven by several surveys.

Yet, rally crowds do not live up to our expectation.
I believe that our idea of People Power which were Edsa I and Edsa II are outmoded. There is people power but it will be manifested in other forms than going to Edsa or Luneta.
How? I do not know? Let’s see how this almost universal outrage for Gloria will take shape in the coming days.

  83. Chabeli Chabeli

    Ms. Ellen,
Come to think of it, you are right when you say “that our idea of People Power which were Edsa I and Edsa II are outmoded. There is people power but it will be manifested in other forms than going to Edsa or Luneta.” As Ystakei said, “Huwag ang mainip. It is just the beginning of the end. Ganyan din nag-umpisa ang lahat ng EDSA. At least, this time, kitang-kita, pure Filipino initiative.

As I mentioned earlier, the quality of the crowd in Luneta was not the usual hakot crowd. There was a cross section of people.

In the meantime, “Let’s see how this almost universal outrage for Gloria will take shape in the coming days.”

  84. Tiago,

Thanks for your comment on my Tribune post.

Good to know that “turnback” is also an engineering term.

“Turnback” in PMA parlance is a cadet who failed the year and has to join his lowerclassmen instead.

Former CSAFP Rodolfo Biazon, now Senator was a “turnback” as a few ex chief service commanders.

Why there’s no another Edsa One or Two? Because the protagonists today or enemies fighting among themselves are the products or nucleaus of those two Edsas? Cory’s groups and many others including the Catholic Church helped out Marcos and Erap; then they supported GMA. Today, they are against GMA. Marcos loyalists still command a huge following. Many were and will be absent in future rallies partly because the one they hate most (Cory) and her group are there. If Cory’s groups and Marcos loyalists reconcile and join forces, then another Edsa is possible. Many hate GMA today; but there are as many who hate Cory. Even the militants, the poor masses hate her. They remember the Mendiola massacre and Hacienda Luisita murders. Given this situation, how can we expect a united opposition front against this evil Arroyo regime? Perhaps it is in this line why columinist Ducky Paredes is now frustrated with the people’s fight against Gloria and decided to play the same tune.

GMA and her cahoots were succesful in bringing down the crowd to at least the highest estimate is 100,000 warm bodies. The “shelving” and “archiving” of the con-ass by JDV and the warnings made by all “sipsips” like Esperon, Lapus of DepEd etc. plus the holiday season that remarkably reduced the crowd. However, the bottomline is, while not too many actually showed at Luneta, it was because we, the majority of the masses, were successful in derailing chacha and junking it were it is supposed to be. What we all have to do is to not to be too complacent.

  94. nelbar:
I just read your comment on wowowee concept for drawing crowds to a venu. I’m sure that someone in the television entertainment business would have ideas on how to draw crowds to a venu and more successful than the church leaders were.

  95. Tiago Tiago

    Nelbar;
I’ve heard that these shows are crowd drawers, unfortunately, i don’t watch them. Not because i see it as a wate of time, more that it doesn’t suit my taste. I also doesn’t subscribe to personal insults hurl at people’s expense mostly common on these shows, so i was told.

Nelbar, i don’t know what to say,

Let me ask you this Nelbar, what is pinoy to you. Most of the pinoys i’ve asked doesn’t know how to describe a pinoy! We’ve strayed so much that we can no longer put a finger on what a pinoy really is. If you answer this question i will tell you a story.

  96. npongco npongco

Tiago, the truth of the matter is, a Pinoy has no identity. It’s not only because we all have mixed blood. It’s more of the way we think and behave. We don’t need to go far. Reading the opinions and comments of the members here could more or less show what kind of mentality they possess. On one hand, they cry “patriotism” and “nationalism”. On the other hand, their ideas and arguments show they still are enslaved with foreign influence.

You mean that because the Pinoy has mixed blood, or the way he/she behaves, etc., he’s/she’s lost track of his Pinoy identity? Bullocks and bullocks again!

If what you say held, then half of the world’s population, particularly in America, Europe, etc. wouldn’t know where they belonged. Bit shallow reasoning.

The Pinoy is pinoy when he/she pledges loyalty and fealty to the country of his birth and for as long as he exercises the moral right to belong to the nation of his forebears, i.e., Pinas, he/she can lay claim to being Pinoy therefore by moral right, that becomes his IDENTITY, the Pinoy identity until he/she decides that it is no longer his/hers for the owning.

Besides, there are peculiar character traits, cultural traits, social mannerisms, etc. that are distinctly Pinoys in a Pinoy born and raised in Pinas wherever in the world he/she may reside today and there’s nothing the person can do to make that undetectable! Those in themselves identify him/her as being Pinoy or Pinay!

Example: My children don’t lay claim to being Pinoys and have pleged their loyalty to the national identity of their father and the land of their birth – their social and character traits are not Pinoy, therefore, technically and morally, they do not possess the Pinoy identity – FILIPINO.

I may possess a foreign passport but it doesn’t alter my Pinoy identity because I still pledge moral and legal allegiance to Pinas so by virtue of that, I can lay claim to possessing the Pinoy identity.

Let’s not go into splitting hair. Those who spurn the Pinoy identity have their reason and have the prerogative to do so but to say the Pinoys do not have an identity all of which is their own is pushing the envelop a bit too far.

    tiago:

  103. npongco npongco

Anna, what is a Pinoy identity? Please explain “identity”. Do we as Pinoys really have this? And to you Nelbar, I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Parang, what for if you were a hero when nothing will turn out good in the end.

  105. npongco, i think I will heed Ellen’s advice here, ignore people like you. You’re like a dog that barks and barks for some confused reason.

  106. Mrivera Mrivera

Robert’s pinoy identity looks like a hodge podge of all negatives, and a facile indictment of Ellen’s bloggers as the worse kind (“The Pinoy is what Ellen Bloggers refer
to Gloria and Mike when they call them names. Example: when they call them Bastos; they seemed more bastos….
He remain absolutely TRIBAL despite advances in science and technology.”).

That’s absolutely unfair. He has forgotten that Gloria and Mike are a different breed of pinoy, and those who lampoon them are of worse breed or tribe? If they are called names by ordinary folks (Ellen’s bloggers), who don’t get anything but headaches and frustrations, that’s because they deserve it as fair game. Putting the bloggers in the firing line instead of the evil couple suggests that the world is upside down. Sorry, I just don’t get it.

pinoy is the slang word for a filipino.do we have a filipino identity? one that is common to all filipinos?

  110. hawaiianguy hawaiianguy

Norpil, this is my 10 cents worth. People (including us) define that word (identity or pinoy identity) in many different ways. It’s a matter of perception, by and large it is socially constructed rather than primordially transmitted. One commonality of pinoy identity? That’s also debatable. From one perspective, pinoy identity refers to the label attached to Filipinos and their descendants(whether they admit their Filipino-ness or not) who have roots in the Philippines since 1565. The label takes on varied shades and meanings — positive or negative — and keeps on changing with time. Curiously, many of those who deny, or unaware of, such identity are included in the domain of “Filipino” by others, regardless of where they live, the circumstances of their birth, etc. In another perspective, pinoy identity is assumed by some “outsiders” who have lived in the Philippines and feel like any other who love that country. Therefore, pinoy identity can be acquired, preserved, imposed, or even lost, depending on those who define it.

“Nagtalunan na sa palubog na barko ni Gloria” is an apt description to those who are concerned with preserving their pinoy identity in a political way.

Hawaiyanguy, this is my one dollar worth, may identity ang Pinoy…iyon nga lang magulo ang identity.

  112. hawaiianguy hawaiianguy
